We had an absolutely amazing, enriching and unforgettable time on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Everything was perfect; the staff with their caring attitude and always smiling faces- Riben, our cabin steward was wonderful! Megan & Meso at Photography, all the cleaners (everything was spotless, which is incredible given that 2000 passengers were onboard!) and Lido staff - how they manage to keep on smiling ...
My group of friends and I have not been on many cruises. We heard this ship and Holland America in general was a step up from the other big name cruises, particularly for adults without accompanying children. We heard accurately. This ship is fantastic and the entire experience far exceeded our expectations in each area that was important, from the embarkation to the cruise to returning to dry ...
We just got back from our amazing 7 day Northbound Alaskan cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam. We were very pleased with the cruise. We took our trip with a group of 6. It was my wife and I, my brother and his wife, and my brother-in-law and his daughter. We are all in our 50's except my BIL's daughter. My wife and I stayed in a Verandah on deck 8. This is my wife and I's 5th overall cruise and first ...
Four of us just completed our cruise with Denali and other sites included. The logistics for this company are off the charts. Everything was so easy and the communication was exceptional. This is our 3rd cruise and by far the best. We spent a couple of days in Vancouver before and that was a wonderful city and very much enjoyed. The initial on-boarding was smooth. The departure and the ...
We are 5 star mariners and cruised on this ship 10 times in past 3 years. Went to Kodiak but when arrived sea was too rough to board the port pilot so went on to Anchorage. For 6 hours we had a 70mph side wind with difficulty walking in our Neptune Suite. Interesting experience as no rocking back and forth so no seasick passengers. Rest of cruise was normal with normal ports and good weather. ...
Embarkation in Vancouver was fast and smooth. I was told it might be different the next day when four ships would be in port, rather than just this one.
The vaguely Art Deco décor of the ship's public areas was lovely, and everything was always clean and fresh. The stair landings and corridors displayed beautiful art and sculptures, and there were many historic pictures and maps associated ...
We decided with friends we wanted to do an Alaskan cruise for our special Anniversaries and we researched a few alternatives and finally chose Holland and America. Having cruised before with other companies we had an idea of what we liked and didn’t like.
Holland and America did not disappoint, the ship was a good size with plenty of space. We had a lovely outside cabin with a good sized ...
After dreaming about visiting Alaska for years, we East Coast frequent travelers took the plunge when my brother & sis-in-law, veteran cruisers, suggested this trip. We planned & conferred for almost 2 years on the details before booking with HAL. The experience has become one of the most memorable travel experiences we've ever had.
Our sole complaints were right at the start & right at the ...
PROS:
Nice ship, not huge, older crowd, not crowded, many places to hang out. Good entertainment, though a couple more movies would have been nice, Comfy beds, attentive housekeeping. We loved having a balcony with a plexiglass railing. (check for that, some have metal railing and you need to stand up to see)
Generally good food with lots of choices. I do like that they serve smaller ...
Background:
This was our first cruise so it was a learning experience figuring everything out.
Getting There:
We had a 6 am flight from SFO to Vancouver. We took a taxi from the airport to 999 Canada Place. It was $35 flat rate for 4 people. The taxis up to 4 people in addition to the driver and have a pretty large trunk that can fit 3-4 large suitcases. Definitely recommend this for ...
