Main Dining Room Not Up To Prior Standards

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Queen Elizabeth

We chose this cruise because we had sailed on Cunard twice (before Covid) for a total of 29 nights and the Main Dining Room (MDR) at dinner was almost always exceptional and the two times it was not, it was made right by ordering something else, so we had zero complaints. We tried Azamara last year and the MDR dinners were awful, so we were gun shy of trying another different cruise line ...

This was our first cruise with Cunard and while we had previously read some saying it's standards had dropped, we can only say that those previous standards must have been off the top of the chart as we have no complaints at all with regard to the comfort (both our room and the general areas of the ship), the attentiveness of staff, the food and dining options, the on board activities (especially ...

Great way to experience Alaska

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Seabourn Odyssey

I used critic extensively to research cruises and thought I’d give back as Ive been on 12+ cruises,3 in the past year. We booked the Odyssey fairly last minute. We’re from the Vancouver area and decided to go about a month in advance. We’re casual, outdoorsy people and thought Seabourn might be a good fit, we were not wrong. We were a little frustrated with the port of Vancouver experience,it ...

Adventure and luxury in Alaska

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Seabourn Odyssey

Most Alaska cruises are 7 day affairs with stops at a glacier, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. Been there, done that. We chose a 14 day itinerary that included the normal ports plus much more. Some examples: a fantastic excursion to watch bears fishing for salmon. A zodiac at the nature-rich Inian Islands (humpbacks, sea lions, otters, eagles). Zodiac from the ship up to Dawes Glacier; icebergs ...

Disappointing Service and Mediocre Dining

This was our first time cruising on Cunard. We did a Viking Eastern Mediterranean cruise in October 2022 and it is still fresh in our memory. On a scale of 10, Cunard was at least 3 notches down from Viking. I would rate the Viking cruise as 8/10 and Cunard as 5/10. Mind you there is a price difference to consider. We have also done cruises on Azamara, Holland America and Celebrity. Our Cunard ...

Alaska with class

Classiest ship we've been on. No hairy chest contests, no belly-flop competition, no announcements about half-price T-shirts at lido. Good variety of entertainment, educational lectures and classical string trio every evening. Beautiful two-story library with spiral staircase. All elegant and subdued. the usual hoofer and hooter musicals were, as usual, mediocre but acrobats and comics added ...

This was our fourth cruise aboard the Queen Elizabeth. The first one was a cruise to Norway and the last three have been cruises to Alaska. This is the first time we have been in Queens Grill on the QE and the first time we have paid for it. We have been honoured with two upgrades to Queens Grill on the QM2. Last year we were in Princess Grill on the same cruise. At that time we noticed some ...

Terrible weather, nice cruise

The weather was terrible. Not Cunard's fault, just that weather in this part of Alaska can be rainy and foggy. Most of the sea days were rainy and foggy. Could barely see Hubbard Glacier for the fog. Glacier Bay was rainy. The ship itself was wonderful. The only time it seemed crowded was tea time, get there 30 minutes before or wait till 30 minutes after the start time. My wife ...

Thoroughly enjoyed Queen Elizabeth

Our ten night Alaska cruise was the first of the "Three Cunard Queens" package we had booked. This was our first time on Cunard and we were not disappointed. We were a little worried that Cunard might be snooty but this was not the case. The ship is in great shape and nowhere did we notice any signs of wear and tear. The decor is opulent, elegant and beautiful throughout. We dined mainly in ...

Generally good but with a few issues

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Queen Elizabeth

Timing was good, with less children onboard and some friends employed by Cunard, and their recommendation. We found dress the opposite of previous reviews, jeans, shorts and T shirts seemed to be allowed everywhere, including restaurants and theatre in the evening. The Embarkation in Vancouver was totally unsatisfactory, in total chaos. There was absolutely no co-ordination of anything or ...
