We wanted a holiday for my wife from her usual houshold management, and adventure for both of us in visiting a wonderful part of the world we'd never gone before. What we liked so much was ease of getting from our home in Vancouver to the ship, without having to bother with an airport or flight. Staff, especially the waiters, were delightful: cheerful (often heard them humming or singing as they went by), friendly, and helpful. Ship was beautiful and comfortable, though so big it took a while to get the layout. It was a new experience to watch a movie while in a swimming pool! Cabin steward was always quietly helpful and friendly, and left our room sparkling every day. Food was excellent, with so many choices of places to get it, and of food options when you decided where to eat. That brought us into much contact daily with waiters, and they were a lot of fun in general conversation, and explaining different items when we wanted to know what they were like. We had supper with the same two other couples every evening, and they were also great companions - lots of knowledge, jokes, and personal sharing. We both enjoyed specially the ventriloquist, my wife liked being in the pop choir, quilling, and exercise, I played the grand piano once, we liked and learned a lot from speakers and videos, enjoyed a few movies but left one when the language got dirty. Best of all was the 8:30 am Bible study/prayer daily, which became a beloved bunch of friends. Embarking we were excited, disembarking sorry to leave, no problems either way. Ports were lovely, walked around all 4 days, loved swimming at all four beaches - yes! Read Less

Love leaving out of my home town, and wanted to try 5 days at sea! Cruise was great, good activity staff and a great roll call who had many activities to help fill up those days at sea. Love the fact that Celebrity now does Silent Disco one or two times per trip. Do not miss this, as it is hilarious. Guest speakers Brent and Mary Amanda were very knowledgeable and enjoyable. Celebrity Life activities sharing information about other itineraries and ports were very informative as well, and helped us pick out our next cruise. Dined in the main dining room which was quite good, with lovely table mates. Only issue was that they had us originally as Select Dining, when we were a set seating but that was quickly sorted out on the first night. No problems with embarkation ( >15 mins!) and disembarkation was great. Ports were good, tendering was a bit painful in Hilo, but they sorted it out for Lahaina! Highly recommend this cruise Read Less

Four seniors escaping from the Arizona heat to Vancouver on Sept. 6. Flew in 1 night early - our party of 2 - and stayed near the YVR airport at Ramada Inn as it had a free shuttle and free breakfast. Room was small but clean and quiet. On boarding day (9/7) we joined with another cruise couple at our hotel and split a cab to Canada Place. $36.30 + tip CDN. 30 minutes after arrival we were on board the ship - one of the fastest check ins and boardings ever for us. Kudos to the folks at the Vancouver Cruise Terminal and RCL. Staterooms available at 115 pm, departure on time at 515 pm. Our group of 4 had the 530 traditional dining each night in the MDR. THE CRUISE - 10 days total, 5 sea days then 5 Hawaii ports - Hilo on the big island, was replaced by Lahaina for 2 days. So Lahaina 2 days, Hana - 1 day, Kauai - 1 day with a drop at Honolulu on the final morning. Lahaina and Hana were both tenders so that is more of a challenge and problem to come and go. OUR CABIN - mid ship interior Deck 3 - good for the 5 sea days due to some 6 - 8 ft. swells. Room was quiet, clean in good shape, bed comfortable, room temp good and cold for sleeping. Attendant Elmer did an excellent job for us and was always pleasant. Flat screen TV with a good variety of cable channels and generally a good picture. SHIP CONDITION - Though one of the older ships, 2300 passengers and 13 decks, we found it in great shape and was kept clean. Plenty of friendly staff who did their job well. Captain Ryan - low profile but daily announcements at 12 noon with our status. With the 5 sea days we played lots of trivia - Hannah, James, Sophie were usually in charge - they were fun and entertaining. FELLOW PASSENGERS - a diverse group - mostly 60 and up but I would say 20% were 30 to 60 in age, some young families - approximately 80 children on board and a number of pre school. Always enjoy talking with people from all over the US and the world on these cruises. Everyone I spoke to was friendly and pleasant. SHOWS/ENTERTAINMENT - Cruise Director John Blair we liked and enjoyed but it appears RCL has decidedly cut this budget. We normally go to the evening show after dining. Some of the shows and entertainers were okay, many were just fair to mediocre. No WOW on the evening shows on this cruise, but at least it was easy to get a seat to attend. DINING - at every evening meal in the MDR at 530 pm. 2 formal nights - waiters - Salvador and Benny - fun to deal with, did their job well and made dinner a good time for all. Food selection always good, service always good, food quality normally good, pacing of meal good - not too slow - not too fast. Ate in 1 specialty restaurant, Giovanni’s for lunch - ½ the dinner price - great meal, great service, excellent meal and dessert. Total price including tip for 4 (no alcohol) was $75. The chocolate cake alone was worth the price of the meal. Had lunch 1 time in the dining room for a change - very good too. Normally did breakfast and lunch in the windjammer. We were happy there with the selection and taste, cleanliness, staff attitude and their job performance. Weakest item in the WJ was the desserts (we felt). Windjammer - additional comment - most every morning as I tried to enjoy my breakfast, usually at 7 AM, the very loud, hip hop music was blaring above our table, sometimes too loud to even have a conversation. Does anyone in the WJ management see who is eating breakfast at 7 AM ? I guess not or who is the music really for - the employees or the paying customers? This could be so much better for all these 60 year olds as they try to converse and enjoy their breakfast. There are so many good music choices that could be made for us to dine by. Perhaps a majority of instrumentals as a suggestion. Music like this is okay at lunch or dinner but please not at 7 AM - please look at this hard and address it. FITNESS CENTER - Did not use FAVORITE LOUNGE - the one on deck 13 - great for reading, chatting or playing games. MEDICAL UNIT - Unfortunately our friends had the chance to use the medical unit. She saw their 2 doctors and was very pleased with their treatment and handling of her problem. Also the nursing staff was very knowledgable. Only downside is charges go right on the sea pass - no insurance claims here, but even at that was not excessively priced. INTERNET - the fastest I’ve seen on a cruise ship. Offered 1 hour for $9.99 - worked for us. Big improvement here on rates and speed - at least on the Radiance. SLOTS - CASINO - 186 slot machines and 10 tables, mostly older machines but some new too. Some of the lowest minimum bet machines in abundance - many could be played for 10 to 30 cents a spin and I think an above average pay out for a cruise ship casino. We played every day but stuck to our budget - casino opened each day at 8 AM but once in Hawaiian waters the entire casino closed the last 5 days of our cruise. BINGO - like the slots - once in Hawaiian waters no more bingo so again that was for the last 5 days of the cruise. We usually do not play ship bingo feeling it is too expensive for the prizes and is way too short but we tried it this time. Buy in was $29 to $69 per player for 3 games on 4 of the sessions, 1 session was a cover all for 1 game only for $30. These 4 different days consisted of 3 games per session - first was a regular bingo, 2nd 4 corner bingo, 3rd the X. Bingo was hit very quickly, in some cases 4 or 5 numbers and that game was over on games 1 and 2. Took about 10 mins to play the 3 games and we were done. I urged them to do some longer games - I want more play for $29 minimum buying those 3 games. I feel if they brought the price down and did more lengthy games there would be more participation (and enjoyment) !! This suggestion fell on deaf ears. SEA DAY ACTIVITY - we felt this was a really weak point on this cruise - not much going on during the afternoon - how about some shows in the afternoon - the Serenade had them 1 year ago while on there. Just not enough going on to help fill those sea days. DRINK PRICES - the coca colas were $3.84 (including tip) and the alcohol seemed to start at $12 per drink + 18%. Far too expensive and little chance to buy a special or happy hour. As a result we did not buy 1 alcoholic drink this cruise. SUMMARY - Well we did kind of escape the Arizona heat for a short period. Most all of our Hawaii time on shore it was hot and humid - unusual according to the locals. 1 year ago we took the sister ship, the Serenade one way Copenhagen to Boston - that experience vs. this one is 180 degrees. The Serenade provided us with our worst MDR dining experience ever on RCL, from the wait staff, their attitude, food selection and delivery, dinner pacing, a challenge every night to dine. The entire atmosphere of that ship vs. the Radiance was entirely different - like the attitude of the staff wherever you went - so positive on the Radiance. I guess the overall experience is very ship specific. The only area we liked better on Serenade was they provided more to do on sea days, as that itinerary had 5 sea days as well. Friends did a Celebrity future booking while on board - the $100 each deposit program is still in place and nice to be able to book Celebrity and RCL while onboard. Just a few complaints from us as mentioned, otherwise very satisfied - this experience was what we expect of RCL as we cruise with them and why we continue to return. Read Less

picked this cruise because of start and finish in Vancouver rather than flying one way. 99% of passengers were retired, staff were very attentive, dining menus were varied. went to Rudy's Sel De Mer one evening , the meal was excellent as was the waitress, only fault was that we felt rushed when the entree came minutes after the appitisers. After asking the waitress to slow down dessert came when we wanted it. cabin 6085 was a signature suite with tub and shower stall, the hot water control and the shower diverter in the tub was not working when we boarded but was fixed shortly after telling stateroom attendant. embarking and disembarking was a breeze. Our luggage was at our cabin within an hour of boarding. overall the cruise was great, weather to and from Hawaii was not good. i would recommend Holland America. in fact we are doing a transpacific cruise on the Noordam. I chose this cruise because my Mom and I wanted to go to Hawaii. Mom has travelled a lot and doesn't want to fly anymore, so we choose cruises that leave and return to Vancouver B.C. The embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. The Star Princess is very well appointed. We had an inside cabin. The beds were very very comfortable with the new Princess Luxury mattresses and pillows. I would like to have had more than one chair in the room though. We chose the 5:15 dining in the Portofino restaurant. The food was fabulous. I'm vegetarian and was pleased with the tasty offerings each night. The desserts were out of this world! The servers were very friendly and efficient. The entertainment was outstanding in the Princess Theater and the lounges. We were frustrated at the difficulty finding seats though. My Mom uses a walker. We had to go to the theater an hour before the early show started in order for her to get a seat. The first show was at 7:45 and the second show was at 9:45. The latter is too late for my mom. There were many people left standing or turned away from the first shows. The events in the Piazza were fun and entertaining if you were lucky enough to find a seat or were willing to stand.I participated in the Ukulele lessons each sea day and in the concert at the end of the cruise. That was a lot of fun. Tiki Dave and Leialoha were a wonderful addition to the cruise with their Hawaiian music and ukulele and hula lessons. We did a wonderful shore excursion through Princess to the Polynesian Cultural Centre on Oahu. On the other 3 islands we rented a car and went snorkeling and to the Volcanoes National Park. In all it was a wonderful cruise and a good sampling of Hawaii. I would love to go again. Read Less

Sailed Princess 9 times including our honeymoon and one year anniversary on Star Princess. Never once we're we disappointed with staff or entertainment. We made so many new Princess extended family members with passengers and staff. Clouds could not dim our last 15 Hawaiian cruise. We just missed hurricane that hit the island. Capri dinning and chef's table was amazing, thrilled with all the seafood selections. Wine tasting and wine selection was wonderful. We loved the culinary comedy show featuring the chef and kitchen staff. Singers from different wait staff were talented and entertaining. Also the brought on board children's Hawaiian dancers to perform for passangers with was spectacular and a favourite feature on this cruise for us. We started our art auction experience on board thrilled at their arts staff and their professionalism and out going personalities. We booked our next cruise for October on board and look forward to many more with Princess. Read Less

Every staff member was exemplary, there were enough staff members to provide service in every area, and service was consistent everywhere. The ship was well-maintained and very clean. We loved, loved, loved Movies Under the Stars where each night we would watch a first-run movie with popcorn and blankets on deck loungers. There was entertainment to fit every taste and performers were all top-notch, as was the cruise director staff. The food was just excellent, and there were wonderful food venue options like the buffet, pool deck pizzeria and burger place, ice cream parlour, and bars all over the ship with different ambiences to suit anyone and everyone. Princess excursions were excellent and the guides were excellent. We learned something every day, whether on board or on the excursions. I forgot my Kobo and made use of the onboard library, which was great. The shops were great and I found things to bring back for family and friends on the ship. Embarkation and disembarkation was unbelievably efficient. The whole cruise exceeded expectations. Read Less

We choose this cruise because it was leaving from our home city and because it was going to Hawaii. We were looking for a resting and relaxing voyage and we had just that! We throughly enjoyed our criuse. Ship was as expected. Cabin was functional, love the spacious wardrobe! —our place to sleep. Dining was exceptional! We dined at the Amalfi which was great thanks to the dynamic duo of Alvin and Gede. They were the best! Entertainment was great we throughly enjoyed all the shows, comediens and singers. The house band was just great!!! The singers/band at the Explores louge were great! Service was great. Front desk were professional, friendly and ready to help! Ports were functional and shore excursions were did well organized with no confusion or long waits. We are planning to do this cruise again! Loved the sea days. Only negatives were the foul odor in some of the corridors, and the sales pressure. There is a difference in providing the customer with the complete solution to making them feel like they are obligated. My husband and i did the couples massage to relax and and unwind. The massage was great however the pressured sales after the massage was not so much. I now know what to expect so when we cruise again i will be more prepared. My husband would definitely domthis cruise again. Read Less

First time to Vancouver, on Norwegian, and to Hawaii for our 25th wedding anniversary. I highly recommend this cruise and itinerary; It was a grand slam for those following October baseball right now. Embarkation a little slow but the disembark was VERY efficient and smooth. (Though we really didn't want to leave!) Entertainment was the best we have ever experienced on a cruise ship. Loved our ocean balcony cabin and room. Dining was outstanding particularly in the specialty restaurants Cagney's, Moderno Churrascaria (Brazilian Steakhouse), and Le Bistro. Weaker links were the Italian specialty dining (not the food per se but the menu) and O'Sheehans, though I liked the atmosphere in the latter especially for watching Sunday NFL football. The service on the ship everywhere was good to outstanding and we liked very much the different themed bars. We only did one of the Norwegian shore excursions, The Road to Hana Deluxe, and that was magnificent and informative. We went on other island excursions on our own or with other tour groups we contracted with once off the boat. We loved them all - in some cases we got better bargains. Rented a car to Laihana the second day in Maui and enjoyed it without being committed to being on a bus all day. Spent time in Honolulu afterward and did our own tours including Pearl Harbor. We will definitely go back to Vancouver, to Hawaii (we added a timeshare to our existing one stateside!), and very much look forward to cruising again on Norwegian. Though once you do this particular cruise, you will realize 5 days at sea in the Pacific is a bit much to repeat a second time through. We wished they had an indoor pool and thank God we got the spa plan which overlooked the ocean and was VERY relaxing. When we go back, I think we will just do a Hawaii tour and schedule a Vancouver BC / Calgary Banff Canadian trip as a separate vacation. Still, it is more than worth experiencing once. Thank you, Norwegian! Read Less

Best Cruise Ever. Cabin # 8008. This was a 10 day cruise. My 6th cruise with NCL. Best food. Best drinks. Best shows. Weather was a bit hit and miss. I love cruising. I think NCL does a great job. Some people like to complain about anything and everything! I prefer to see the glass " half full " . I think it is really important to treat each cruise as a separate event, and not to lump all the ships, staff, etc., into one big category. In a perfect world, I would like to see a NON smoking ship. The Casino, stinks. The pool deck can smell smokey as well. I would prefer some fans in the gym, as it gets stuffy. I also think that more and more people are abusing food on cruises. I cannot see how some people can eat and waste so much food. But, some things are NONE of my business ! Read Less
