My wife and I have cruised on many different lines and ships. This trip was our first with Holland America. The Nieuw Amsterdam is what I would call a moderate sized ship, especially when compared to the newer “mega ships”. We found the ship itself to be clean and for the most part, well run. Picked this cruise as a B2B to the Vancouver-Sydney relocation cruise. The weather for 14 days was bleak, but doing a return trip we managed to see everything we wanted, though we missed Hubbard Glacier and the first Ketchikan stop. Food was excellent (nice choice and variety). Service has excellent (stateroom stewards were amazing!). Thoroughly enjoyed how close the ship got to Hubbard Glacier. Also enjoyed the other ports of call. The Naturalist on the cruise was also amazing. Saw dolphins, whales, and sea lions from the ship - cool!

Price for a turnaround Alaskan cruise was really inexpensive. You see same ports but different glaciers. Obstructed ocean view cabin is clean and comfortable. Princess has a great Reputation in Alaska. Waiter, and Dining Room Staff did an excellent job. We sailed from Vancouver on August 27, and as other reviews have mentioned, the embarkation process is a complete mess. With 3 ships in port there was upwards of 7,000 passengers all snaking thru the same line and it took us almost 2 hours to board. Someone definitely needs to look at this process.
