We cruise a lot including river cruises, world cruises, expedition cruises and bareboat charters. For years we have heard from fellow cruisers that an Antarctica expedition was one of their most enjoyable cruises. Unfortunately, we did not have that experience and would not recommend Viking Expeditions.
The travel and transfers were extremely uncoordinated, confusing and overall very ill ...

Great luxury cruise with beautiful scenery and penguins BUT a disappointment as an expedition. We did not get what we paid for which was 7 days of multiple water craft experiences and landings in Antarctica. Spent two extra days in Ushuaia waiting for smooth water to cross the Drake Passage. That reduced the expedition days to down to 5. Spent two 6.5 hour days on bus tours around Ushuaia. OK, ...

The Viking Air Department is horrible and should be avoided. The Air Department lies, randomly and without notice changes itineraries, ignores stated flight preferences, and becomes punitive if you challenge them.
We assured by a Viking representative that we would have our choice of available partner airlines for our December 15-29 Viking Polaris expedition to the Antarctic if we purchased ...
We appreciate you sharing your experience, Nifkin. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your expedition with Viking Polaris, although we regret to hear of your disappointment with Viking...
Our flight to South America was changed 4 times the last one week before we left, and the date was changed. Good thing we are retired. Viking packing list ignore, taped all that out yes three layers but only one hat and one set of gloves. Laundry on ship was easy to use. Yes they have two submarines, don’t plan on getting on them. People who had reservations prior to departure were told too bad ...

This cruise was a joke.
Two submarines onboard, but don't expect to get on either as each has a 6 passenger capacity and there are 370 guests onboard, and they only go out in perfect weather. They created a wait list but don't waste your time, you won't get on. I think there were only 2 dives in the 8 days in Antarctica so 24 people got to dive.
I also love ocean kayaking but it was the ...

For our 70th birthdays we decided to take a cruise to the Antarctic. Scenic was blazing a trail with its so-called super-luxury Scenic Eclipse so we thought we’d try them. We’ve previously sailed on Regent Seven Seas, Seabourn and Silver Seas so we understand what luxury is and this wasn’t.
Firstly the ship is all show with little substance. Our suite was dark and with insufficient closet ...
The following are my opinions and observations:
--LeLyria Chartered by A&K--
Overall, I thought the A&K tour was disorganized and communication was poor. I wasn’t impressed with the A&K staff in Buenos Aires, Ushuaia or on the ship—they appeared not to have much interest in the guests. In my opinion, on several occasions, they were rude and unprofessional (especially the A&K staff in Buenos ...
For our second cruise in Antarctica we chose Silversea and, sadly, paid a lot of money for what turned out to be lower quality than our first cruise on Seabourn, Contrary to the spin from the company, this ship does not offer five star luxury; at best it is probably a three star experience. Our very large cabin (we got a two level upgrade) like most of the ship is not well designed or decorated. ...
We chose this cruise because we were so pleased with our last year cruise to Antartica.
But, our cruise from Ushuaia to Valparaiso was disappointing; The beginning started well with a good excursion at the Cap Horn, but over the following 11 days we had few excursions (we expected 1/day or at least 1/two days): only 3 !
Conferences on board were few & not up to the standard we experienced ...
Chose the cruise to see Patagonia, the Chilean fjords and the flora and fauna associated with that area. We did not sign up for extended bus tours with local guides to go see antique cars, sheep shearing, local dancing or to be dumped in a town in the pouring rain. This was simply a repositioning of the ship with a lot of filler that was very uninteresting. Would definitely not recommend this ...
