Going to Antarctica was a lifelong dream, and when I saw there was a South Georgia itinerary, we decided - "Let's go for it". Definitely a once in a lifetime expedition for us as we're getting older. Although we are well warned, anything can happen on an expedition cruise, and before you make a $60,000 commitment (included Patagonia extension and Viking trip insurance, + room upgrade), I ...
The food in 2 main restaurants is consistently good even great sometimes.
The eggs Benedict for breakfast is the best I have ever had
The japanse fusion NIKKEI is ok but a lovely cosy atmosphere and great service
Now the minus side
To have to buy still water for meals is ridiculous
5.80eu for a bottle. When it is freely available in the suites
We had 12 bad movies for an 18 day ...
This is a fabulous cruise from Argentina through Chile, a part of the world most people have never encountered. The weather is not totally ideal and can be a bit limiting but Viking does everything in their power to make up for it and provide alternatives. The ship is beautiful and the size is perfect for making many new friends!
I loved the zodiacs, Special Operations boat, and of course the ...
Antarctica was a bucket list vacation for my husband and I. We loved the idea of the smaller expedition ship, sailing with only approximately 400 passengers, and the idea we would be traveling with scientists and experienced expedition guides.
The trip did not disappoint!
We definitely recommend this trip. We are Viking fans, and for all the reasons people love Viking, you will definitely ...
Cruise was chosen based on these criteria
1) expedition planned to go south of Antarctic circle for 3 days
2) good price for ship quality and expedition team due Black Friday sale
4) Quark would match up singles with same-sex roommate, avoiding single surcharge
3) timing
Ship was very nice - great for expedition cruising with 3rd deck mud room for storing and getting your shore ...
We were on the Fridtjof Nansen Antarctic Circle Expedition from February 7 to 23, 2023. The ship usually carries 500 passengers, but there were fewer than 300 people on our trip. The cruise included one night in Buenos Aires before taking a charter flight to Ushuaia. They tell you that you are allowed a checked bag weighing 50 pounds and a carry on weighing 17 pounds. They did not weight our ...
Always had Antarctica on our bucket list, so when Viking launched it's new expedition ships, were hooked. We like Viking because of their subdued approach: no kids, no casino, no loud music. A beige color scheme with nautical themes abound. Rather, interesting talks and in depth learning are provided. We were upgraded to a larger room which provided additional storage space on deck 4. The dining ...
Chose this cruise of a lifetime over other companies doing Antartica because of the activities advertised, especially the submarine trip. We booked in May 2021 before the ship was even in service. The advertising promoted the sub and other activities showing lovely pictures of a smooth sea which looked most inviting, nowhere did they mention that these activities are subject to weather (and in the ...
Dining was very good. Just about anything you could want to eat. They did not make biscuits and gravy. I asked the head wait staff gentleman; he actually had the head chef make me some a couple of days later. What a great surprise, I felt like I was in the Owners Suite. Having access to all the dining rooms would have been better. The wait staff was excellent. Management staff was ...
We wanted the full Antarctica experience so included Falklands and South Georgia as well as Antarctic Penninsula. You’ll most likely only go once so go for all of it. This part did not disappoint at all. Expedition staff were overall young but very experienced and excellent, they worked extremely hard to get us off the ship as much as was possible. Presentations were well-researched and ...
