After having experienced the middle deck room in Uniworld’s Venice Cruise, the next year my husband and I were ready to sail the Danube from Passau to Budapest, but on the lower level. For the most part, I was happy with the room, food and staff. The excursions could have been better described. Most guides but the one in Passau were quite knowledgeable about their subjects. The organization of passengers onto busses and back again was streamlined and easy. I’d highly recommend all the tours except Schönbrunn Palace. It was too warm with too many people and not particularly interesting. I was quite tired after that and skipped the Mozart concert, which everyone said was fantastic. The bathroom had a heated marble floor and towel rack, which was great. The beds and pillows are sooo comfortable, although the AC wouldn’t cool quite enough for me at night. An article of clothing “disappeared” from my room’s closet. I wish I had thought to lock my clothes in my suitcase and then slide the suitcase in the space provided under the bed. Read Less

Uniworld is a top rated line. Called just two days before leaving for Budapest to check water levels and was told that all was great and we were "assured" that there would be no problem for our embarkation on 9/23. Not so! Got an email in the wee hours of the morning the day before telling us that the ship was in Vienna and we would have to stay in Budapest an extra night, because of low water levels, in another hotel. We would then be bused to Vienna. A nightmare. Got sent to a horrible hotel who had no idea of what was going on! No reservations held for us or other Uiworld passengers. We called Uniworld to no avail. Operators told us the office was closed and had no way to check on status. Our other travel friends didn't even get an email telling them of the delay or anything at all. Ended up in another hotel that was better than the wrong one originally sent to, but not great by any means. We were given 80 Euros per person for dinner and lunch the next day. Got on a bus the day after and sat for 3 1/2 hours to Vienna. Once on board, got a notice saying we would get $150 (US) each to spend on board. Of course, everything was priced in euros. This trip cost each couple $1,500 PER DAY. We virtually lost 2 days and this was the compensation. We were greeted warmly on board, and the staff was great. Food mediocre. Sailed in the evenings so saw no beautiful sites along the way. Only a short afternoon sailing in between 2 towns. The water levels cant be helped. We learned that they have been down for a very long time due to a dry warm summer. Uniworld had to have known this and handled this issue very poorly. They insulted us by offering to pay for a cab fare as we had to drag our luggage to the wrong hotel they gave us. Funny that all the 5 star hotels were available, yet they stuck us in cheaper ones. We then were offered $500 off, per person, a future cruise. Really! The better thing for them to have done was to reimburse us for THIS cruise. Do they honestly think I would pay over $12,000 to them AGAIN just to get a discount! No way! Many other lines to choose from. Very disappointed in Uniworld. Read Less

We choose.this cruise in hopes of seeing all that Egypt has to offer and its amazing history and culture. We flew from the US thus the flight time and time difference leave you a little out of sync. Getting test is critical and being organized is a priority. We felt safe during our travels as many safety features are in place. We were able to visit many ket sites that are simply amazing. The Egyptian people are very friendly and want to see a smile on your face. The River Cruise has and outdated ship but very clean. Our main gaol on the ship was to rest and dine. We did not go to Egypt to party and stay up late. The Kitchen Staff goes out of their way all the time on every meal this was surprising the food was good. My only request was that they would offer a package of beverages for free outside of water, tea, or coffee. All drinks are very expensive a small coke cost over 2 dollars. Forget the minibar just water. The rooms were very clean and the service was great. The Bus Rides to destination only offered water traffic was and issue. The 4 seasons Hotel is amazing great rooms make sure you get a high floor to avoid the street noise the Italian restaurant is the best. Pick up to the airport and back was good except for departure you have to leave 4 hours prior to flight. My concern with this trip is we made 4 stops to visit local stores with 30 people on the bus this was a waste of time as we did not travel this far to go to stores they should make this optional I would have rather been at the hotel resting. My biggest concern was when we had locals attached their boat outside our rooms screaming out our window for 45 minutes to buy stuff which was a little to much and concerning. This was on our first day and it happened twice with 2 different boats. I called the front desk multiple times and they told me both time it would take 5 minutes which was not the case. Being upset and concerned about our safety, privacy, and lack of sleep having someone attached to your boat outside your room I was hoping for a more proactive response. The Hotel Manager spoke to me during dinner but his response left a lot to be desired. I mentioned we had flown over 15 hours and the last thing we need is to have someone screaming outside our room latched on to the boat. The Boat crew was over the top nice we had no issues with any one for lack of service. After the first day we had no more issues with the small boats attaching to our Ship. I tried to share in a diplomatic way that we did not travel this far to go into 4 stores with 30 people having to waste about 4 hours time when there is so much more you can be doing that is much more logical. Most of the folks buying stuff was trinkets for friends or family members that you could buy all over the streets of Egypt. Coming from the states were we could buy almost anything from Amazon delivered to your doorstep this was the opposite experience wait fore ever for people to get in and off a bus to go into a store were you are flooded around not having a clue what you are looking at or what it is worth and why the heck do you need it. Everywhere you go in on the Tour you have people trying to sell you stuff our tour guide even thought it was a good idea to have some of the folks come on some mini cruises with us amazing. As far as Egypt is concerned we felt very safe except for the cruise having the boat attached to us. The People are very nice there is a lot of poverty thus they try there best to make a living selling tourist trinkets, garments, it is a rich culture with and amazing history. The River Cruise is well balanced the meals are amazing and the guest blended in well with the crew. The Guides should probably do powerpoint presentations or have in room videos of your daily events for preparation and learning. Having a lecture outside for 30 minuets in the Egypt heat is not good a couple of people passed out. Some of the tours are challenging the guide does not let you know until the day you are there. I do not know if we are spoiled or just take things for granted but with a little coaching this great group of people can have a much more positive outcome for folks who traveled so far to see there great country. the sites were amazing we were blessed with great guest from all over the US and Australia. I only wish we did not waste so much time doing things like leaving 4 hours early to the Airport at Midnight with no traffic or stopping at stores. I am hoping this review helps the folks at UNIWORLD Develop a better game plan as I thing we wasted 2 days of time which is 20 percent of our vacation doing things that could have been avoided. I also heard other guest mentioned that a uniform tip would be helpful rather than having to make multiple stops at banks to pay the Bus driver, Tour guide, Hotel staff etc. Yes we also spent over 1 hour stoping at banks for people to get off the bus to go to a ATM. In summary Egypt is a great place to visit we felt the people were great we only wish that the organization four this amazing country for a tourist to visit had more detail prior to tours and less shopping. I also thing the guides should be more helpful telling the street vendors to give us some space. Prior to leaving get some rest bring lots of small bills and make sure you make time to rest when you get back home. I hope this was helpful and I want to thank all the great people who made a difference in our trip. Read Less

This was the second to last cruise of the year. Things ran smoothly, and the crew were a well-oiled machine. They were faultless, professionalism and enthusiasm were apparent. We felt cared for. Food was to a very high standard. Not classic but excellent which is what you want on an unpretentious cruise like this. Evenings were smart but laid back and most of all fun. I expected to find the staff looking forward to their break and being a little bored with the guests, but that was not the case. Ana in the dining area is exceptional, Ricardo as cruise director knows his stuff and the Captain very professional and caring. I had one issue. The crane above our cabin was used at 2am to shift the gangplank. Only one night and once explained we got on with it. I would say a cruise on the Duoro is perfect early autumn like this. Temperatures were cool but good enough for anyone from the UK. 20c being the average. The trips off the ship were excellent. I particularly liked the visit to Sandeman and Mr Bean (Go, you will understand). The river is just stunning at this time of year. The colours were amazing. It must be one of the most picturesque of all river cruises as you are always in touch with the riverbank and wildlife. Thanks, Uniworld, I loved it..... Keep up the good work! Read Less

The ship was lovely. Accommodations and dining were top notch. The staff went out of their way to make everything beautiful and delicious. There were plenty of tours and onboard activities to choose from. I chose to skip the shore excursions one morning, just so I could enjoy more of the ship's amenities! But most days, I didn't want to miss the cities we were visiting either. My group and I were pleased that Uniworld provided comfortable buses, when needed. And the tour guides were all locals who were especially knowledgeable about their cities and history. We were a group of five people traveling together, and we met many other people on the ship who were pleasant and interesting. My daughters (ages 38 & 40) enjoyed some more active hikes and bike rides. They immediately met people who they enjoyed being with as well. The additional tour options were definitely worth doing as well. It was lovely, lovely, lovely! Read Less

We just returned from Castles along the Rhine and we're still excited about it. This being our first cruise ever we may not be the ones to ask but we cannot say enough good about this cruise line and our experience. We were encouraged by our travel agent to try Uniworld when we told her we were thinking river cruise. From the pick up at the airport on we continued to be impressed by the attention given to us by every staff member we encountered. We arrived early in the day and our stateroom not yet ready. We waited in the lounge where we were welcome to eat and drink anything from the late breakfast, the dining room lunch and the bar. Once settled we were very happy with the size of our stateroom and the amenities within. Plenty of storage space and a comfy bed. Taking many of the offshore excursions we found the guides were very knowledgeable, easy to understand, friendly, willing to share and answer questions. Every meal was a feast for the eyes and the tummy and service was great. Many of the staff made you feel as though you were long lost friends and you were the only one in the room. Always eager to visit, share local info and keep your tummy and glass full. Our captain was very present, friendly, and eager to share his knowledge as well. Because we enjoy cocktail hour before dinner we came to know a little about the wait staff and enjoyed chatting with them. They took good care of us. Hooray for Sylvia, Mariya and Nesta. The entertainment nightly was always fun and engaging. It created a very lively, fun and relaxed atmosphere We would do this trip again and highly recommend it. We are looking for our next Uniworld excursion and can't quite decide which it will be. Thinking about Danube Discovery & Prague. The only thing that could possibly make this any better would be if we could take the staff from this cruise along on our next. PS The two small villages, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr made me want to look for a place to live and have my belongings shipped. Stunning views along the way, lovely and quaint little villages. Our travel agent suggested we try Uniworld for a river cruise. Together we chose Castles Along the Rhine. We were greeted at the airport in Amsterdam by a Uniworld representative and soon we were whisked away to meet our ship, the River Empress. We were impressed that Uniworld made that drive for just the two of us. We were greeted again at the ramp of the ship and shown to the lounge where we were welcome to anything to eat and drink until our room was ready. We enjoyed some coffee and juice and soon after enjoyed a huge and beautiful buffet lunch in the dining room. Once our stateroom was ready we were gladly settled in and in awe of the beauty and amenities within. Everyday with Uniworld was an outstanding experience. The tours were informative with excellent, well spoken, easily understood, English speaking, knowledgeable guides. All the staff and crew were kind, courteous & helpful and enjoyable to interact with. We especially liked the evening entertainment as it kept the crowd lively and engaged. We will definitely do this again, in fact we are working on that as I write. Read Less

We choose Uniworld based on their reputation as a 5 or 6 star line. of the 13 day cruise from Lisbon to Madrid, we were on the ship 8 nights and the other nights in very nice hotels. The overall experience was good, worst part of the cruise was on the ship. They were VERY understaffed and they kept saying the air conditioning was being fixed, however it NEVR worked the entire time!! Extremely uncomfortable in the lounge and dining room!!! They had ONE waiter/bartender for 50 people on the sun deck. You could NOT ask for a drink at the bar! You were told the drink would be brought to you. Yes, a half hour later!! Again, One bartender, ONE waiter!! for 100 people!! I could go on but just say we were, and our friends that travelled with, were EXTREMELY Disappointed in Uniworld. We did find out that the Queen Isabel is not operated by Uniworld, but it is leased out?? Not on the ship, The tours and guides were very good Read Less
