Probably the biggest disappointment was the food. The buffet restaurant seems to have no dress code and the food was absolutely appalling. Cheap, mass produced rubbish. The a la carte restaurants (47° and gallery 47) were slightly better but the food was all bought in and heated up, menus lacked imagination and the quality was average at best. We did have one good meal by paying £46 to upgrade to the Kora La Asian restaurant. This was almost 5 star but not quite. The ship has been with TUI Marella since 2017, before this it was Legend of the Seas and on exchange was supposed to have had millions spent on it. Apart from a nice external paint job it's difficult to see what this could have been spent on as it's all very tired and often quite tatty internally. The cabin has it's own section within this review. The entertainment was quite reasonable. The band 4Tunes are good and some of the shows were ok, though not fantastic. Why are cruise ships obsessed with Broadway shows? On good quality 5 star holidays we are used to entertainment that typifies the culture and music of the area being visited. The all inclusive drinks are ok but I don't understand why this doesn't include the cabin mini bar. Maybe the type of 5 star all inclusive holidays we are used to has set our expectations a bit high for large cruise ships due to the mixed client demographic. We certainly wouldn't sail with Marella again. Read Less

We had done 3 previous cruises with another company but for some reason our travel agent pressurized us to book Marella there was only inside cabins available so we went with it has we had used them previously and they had internal balconies or a window overlooking the shopping area. What a shock when we opened the door of cabin 7117 a small dark room the bed had to be pushed against the wall leaving the person on the inside have to crawl over the partner to get in and out. As this cruise cost 5 grand plus we were very disappointed to spend 2 weeks in this cave never sure if it was night or day. Would recommend anyone considering this ship if no outside cabins available do not consider this ship as we were very close to leaving after 7 days as no upgrade or other shore options were offered Read Less

So I don't usually write reviews but our experience wasn't great, so thought I'd best have a moan after all! Starters. Our cabin was clean and functional, no issues with that, the location however wasn't. We were just by the coffee shop near the Atrium. We didn't realise it was a poor position until the evening when the music could be heard until late. Indeed, the last night the "leaving party" went on till at least 1am, not something you want when you have to vacate the cabin by 8am the next day. Be warned, if you are near the Atrium see if you can get moved or prepare to stay in the bar till late waiting for a drink! Dining. The food was ok but the restaurant hours were restrictive. We generally like to eat later in the evening but all the restaurants closed by 9:30 with only a snack bar open till later. This snack bar only provided left overs from the day which were handed to you when you asked. Want to experience the a Charles Dickens novel? "Please sir can I have some more", visit the snack bar! Which leads me to bar service.... I'm not sure some of the reviews were on the same ship as myself. Waiting to get served at a bar was tiresome with all the bars we visited only having one staff member serving drinks behind the bar and usually one waiter loitering. If you don't mind waiting upward of 40 mins to get a drink from the waiter, I guess it's fine. Going to the bar was hit and miss as well. The bar staff didn't understand the concept of queuing. Twice I pointed to a person who had been waiting longer than myself only for the barman not to return once they had dealt with that customer. Maybe it's a British thing, but everyone I queued with moaned about this service, with some suggesting there were more barman on previous years. As you can note with our cruise date, our trip occurred during the World cup while England were still in it (yeah shocked! never expected that when we booked). The entertainment staff did their best to get the England games on the TV and the bar staff worked hard while the England games were on, but the other times... it soured our experience. On the plus side, the Itinerary was great and would like to visit Croatia again, just not with this company. Read Less

This offers a decent value for money cruise option. Plus Points * Great entertainment (high quality singing & dancing plus acts flown in). Ignore any comments about Labour club types..they are far better than that. Martin Payne (Cruise Director) and his team were excellent. * Cabin staff are friendly and visible when needed. Everything spotless inside the ship. * Dining alternatives to the buffet and the food were very good with changing menus (except a la carte). Waiter service was prompt and efficient. *Drinks. On the whole fine and we found no need to pay £50 each to go Premium. There is enough quality and quantity on the AI. Plenty of waiters so no need to clog up the bar!! Obviously some better than others but use the waiter service. Bars The Atrium is always busy but that apart they are excellent. Views from Bar 11 are brilliant. * Ports of Call. Excellent itinerary and enough time allowed for DIY shore visits. We didn't do any TUI trips so can't comment. *Loungers etc. We had a junior suite with 2 sunbeds so didn't bother with deck 9 but no one said it was up at silly o'clock and beds cannot be reserved and left unoccupied for more than 45 mins and they tell you this on arrival. The veranda beds, however, do go earliest and it's adults only. If sunbed towelling happens anywhere it'll be there. Minor Gripes * The buffet..I dare say some people love the works canteen approach but we found except for afternoon tea, it is best avoided. Chaotic , noisy and stressful. There are 2 identical food stations but still folk wander around with plates. The food is fine though!! No soft drink station and only one beer station.. Ice cream is Mr Whippy machine type outside between 12 & 3. A waiter dispense so be prepared to queue. * Night time deck cleaning. Probably only an issue on deck 8 cabins but they clean about 2 AM and set out the loungers about 6 AM so you might get disturbed sleep. *Lifts 2 of the 4 central lifts were out of action for the duration of our cruise. Be prepared to walk more than you thought. You get used to it and all the others work. * Money changing. Whilst TUI need to make from you be careful to only change £s as if you change Euros they charge for converting Euros to Sterling then Sterling to the currency you need..( Croatia Kina) for example. *Overall. Acceptable and nothing ever goes 100% so hopefully my review helps you. Read Less

We had done a cruise already and enjoyed it and decided to do a two-centre holiday for our Pearl Anniversary. Marbella Discover 2 was our first week from Corfu to Split and down the cost of the eastern (Adriatic ?) We paid for a cabin with a balcony. This was a good choice but only one sun lounger. Otherwise great cabin. Loved it. Big negative: WiFi. I’m 57 but access to the internet is important to me. We paid £ 25 for 3 days (data limited but I can’t recall the limit). The WiFi (tbh) was crap - a waste of money. Even their own Tui Navigate App didn’t work that often. “Keep trying” we were advised. No, sort it out. Beds: I must be getting old but the mattresses were hard. My wife suffered and ended up sleeping on the sofa. Not good. Staff: Not one single complaint. These people are great. Polite, smiley. You felt you could ask anything. Bless them. Food: Was excellent but there were issues with space. If you don’t care when you eat then OK. Variety, no complaints other than a scarcity of Tomato and HP Sauce. Entertainment: OK, this is very subjective and, no doubt, age related. For me this was worthy of Butlin’s (and not in a good way) but others clearly enjoyed it. What you can’t fault is the energy and enthusiasm of the entertainments team. Boy they tried hard. Cycling: OK, not my bag, but one day I saw the crew (Tui?) lead off a pack of cyclists and I guess they do this at every port. What a brilliant idea. Outings: This (for me) is the whole point. You sail north on the first day which you use to orientate yourself and then stop at split. My comment: Get off the boat and look around – brilliant location and most places take Euros (and cards). We brought loads of Euros back! Refurb: The boat came over from the Caribbean and was refurbished – well – sort of. Steel drums in the Adriatic – really? Crew were still painting bits and piece but it wasn’t a real issue. Sushi: I hang my head in shame and claim the excuse that I had too many beers. We booked the Sushi restaurant (my wife and daughter love it) and I wanted to try but it really wasn’t my thing. Unfortunately we talked to the two guys behind the Sushi bar and they asked me what I thought. I made a comment and just kept digging the hole deeper. If Sushi is/might be your thing then please give this a try. Edamame Beans, and Miso soup were brilliant but as I awkwardly said the Sushi wasn’t my thing and the chef looked crestfallen. The quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, was faultless – and my wife loved it. BTW, sell Sake! One last thing. Quiet. Few places escape the Sound of Music, except a little bar on the top deck if you just want to read. Read Less

This was our 6 cruise all with tui .the majority of staff were lovely didn't rate our cabin boy he kept knocking too early in nights when I was in shower said he would come back sometimes he never usually we would tip as they do work hard but this time didn't .the food was fine only used waiter service once on changeover day as was quietest day buffet was fine even though busy always got seat .my biggest bugbear especially second week was the kids haven't a problem in general with kids but they took over the whirlpools in them all day everyday you're suppose to be 13 to even go in them and be with an adult parents just didn't care wasn't even watching them same In night singers were trying to perform and kids were doing cartwheels on floor so wrong one kid was even messing with piano in afternoon no idea where her parents were .didn't think we should have to be out by 8am either 10am would be much better as it was such a rush suppose to be on holiday .one kid told us we couldn't go in whirlpool we did go in though wouldn't be so bad if it was school hols that's why I picked those weeks .also my friend came with us as her husband died last year she had too pay £400.00 more than us which is disgusting tour operators should really think about this her cabin was same size as ours .loved port of calls been to most before so didn't always get off Read Less

We were originally booked to travel to Florida but as a result of damage etc and the hurricanes prevailing at that time we decided to cancel and were offered the chance to rebook so decided on a cruise and stay as always fancied this type of holiday. We had cruised many times before, only once though with Thomson on the Majesty which we hadn't particularly enjoyed at the time but had heard of good reports of the Discovery 1 and 2 ships. We were immediately very impressed, only had an inside cabin as that was all that was available approximately 6 days before we sailed but it was fine, plenty of storage, clean, quite modern, well kept by the steward whose name I sadly have forgotten, easy access to the parts of the ship we visited and also close to a water cooler so we always had fresh water to take ashore or during the night, great idea this instead of the constant sales push by other companies to purchase bottles of water from them at extortionate prices. The only negative is the horrid shower curtains that keep attaching themselves to you, why can't they get rid of them! Shower doors would be much better. We used the main dining room for breakfast as we had had a break from cruising as we had both got utterly sick of buffets, the queueing for tables and hustle bustle and noise of it all in the past. This was a much better choice, waiter service, good selection of breakfasts and much more relaxing dining option and we never had to wait for a table. We also used this option for dinner, generally we had to have a pager but often we ordered a drink, sat down and then our pager went off. Food was excellent too at dinner, cannot fault it and my husband is fussy! Would thoroughly recommend the main dining room and the all inclusive drinks option was wonderful. The Prosecco, cocktails and wines which I tried were excellent and bar service was good. We used to have a drink in the bar on the upper deck which became the disco later in the evening and would then go down to book a table for dinner, going into the atrium bar while we waited. Coffees were also available on the all inclusive package. We did not book any trips etc but did our own thing. During the day we used the glass house for swimming as I do not sunbathe, the pool was a little chilly but the atmosphere was lovely and the food options for lunch good and the takeaway section just outside did a variety of foods and fresh fruit selection. We only used the buffet once, quite late in the afternoon so it was not too busy to at that point. We went to a couple of shows which were very good but generally did our own thing in the evening. Embarkation was very speedy when we boarded and our suitcases arrived very quickly indeed which is always a relief !and as we were going to a hotel for four days we left the ship fairly early in the morning but sadly we ended up sitting on a coach for ages as the coach was overbooked initially, the passengers were transferred to another coach, all a bit of a pain really and then we had a long wait to check in at our hotel but that is another story! The cruise was excellent thoughout, would definitely go again and would recommend, the all inclusive drinks package and tips included is a bonus. Read Less
