I chose this cruise due to the itinerary, including Greenland, The Lofoten Islands of Norway, and The Shetlands. Before the cruise even began, Greenland and the Lofoten ports were dropped with no explanation, and the Shetland stop was canceled after we had literally arrived. There were supposed to be no sea days, but we ended up spending 20% of the cruise on sea days. Absolutely nothing to do on ...
The cruise originally had a stop in Greenland, but somewhere between inquiring and booking, this stop was removed from the itinerary which was somewhat disappointing.
There are television screens in a lot of the bars that play a 24 hour sports channel. This would have been worth an extra point, but in none of the bars did they allow the volume to be on. Given the programming of the sports ...
This was a return to cruising after a few years, and it certainly won't be as long before the next! Cruised on the Star from Tromso to Reykjavik, and loved it.
Food: always subjective, but thoroughly enjoyed Versailles MDR and the options offered there. Actually ate there a lot more than anticipated, as the buffet was so rammed at breakfast in particular. The crowdedness of the buffet was ...
First time to the Arctic and we highly recommend it. This ship was very clean and the staff were fantastic! Lack of communication when we had a shuttle into town available. Some were free, others were $20. Ricco and Jeffrey from the Gatsby bar were so friendly and engaging. This is the 2nd time on the Star and it does not disappoint. Performers did not offer two shows a night. The ...
I wanted to respond to all the negative reviews of this ship based on the May cruise where the ship didn't serve alcohol the first three days of a cruise around the U.K. I quizzed the bartenders and this did happen because of issues between Norwegian and the UK alcohol/tax authorities. But the reviews saying the food and service on this ship were bad are all lies. My wife and I were on the Star ...
We always choose cruises for the itinerary and this one was no exception as it took us to the far north then through the Norwegian fjords and then over to the Shetlands and the Faroe Islands and then on to Iceland. Since we have sailed most of the Regent ships and only this Silversea ship, I plan to compare it to Navigator which is a similar size and age. Before we left, a friend noted that he ...
We are long time Silversea cruisers with nearly 400 days and have always defended them. Not any more. We enjoyed our recent cruise but it was hit and miss at best and considerably down market. Forget the dress code, jeans and tracksuits in the restaurant on informal and even formal nights. Guests were scruffy and dare I say unwashed! I actually began to dress down as I wondered why I bothered ...
It was part of our trip to Scandinavia as we are group of 30 people travelling from a European country to explore Scandinavian countries.
Our embarkation was at 0130 am on 28th of February 2022 and we are supposed to reach our destination Svolaraer at 1830 the same day. What is more they have asked us to empty the rooms from 1330!!! although we are going to reach our destination at 18 ...
The cruise supposed to be quick and easy. The service was excellent. The waiters were very polite. Although they took us out from the cabins very soon and we were waiting with the baggages for hours. There was a delay for an hour and a half because the hatch damage. The most important is that when they announced the departure they didn’t apologise for the delay, they didn’t explain why we had the ...
The ship was renovated in 2016 and is newer and nicer than some of the other Hurtigruten ships. We sailed from Tromsø to Trondheim in March and the scenery was amazing all the way. We stayed at the Arctic Superior cabin which was quite small, but nice and comfortable. However, be aware that you risk to get a cabin on deck 5 with the panorama deck right outside your window with somewhat reduced ...
