We always choose cruises for the itinerary and this one was no exception as it took us to the far north then through the Norwegian fjords and then over to the Shetlands and the Faroe Islands and then on to Iceland. Since we have sailed most of the Regent ships and only this Silversea ship, I plan to compare it to Navigator which is a similar size and age. Before we left, a friend noted that he ...
We are long time Silversea cruisers with nearly 400 days and have always defended them. Not any more. We enjoyed our recent cruise but it was hit and miss at best and considerably down market. Forget the dress code, jeans and tracksuits in the restaurant on informal and even formal nights. Guests were scruffy and dare I say unwashed! I actually began to dress down as I wondered why I bothered ...
The cruise supposed to be quick and easy. The service was excellent. The waiters were very polite. Although they took us out from the cabins very soon and we were waiting with the baggages for hours. There was a delay for an hour and a half because the hatch damage. The most important is that when they announced the departure they didn’t apologise for the delay, they didn’t explain why we had the ...
It was part of our trip to Scandinavia as we are group of 30 people travelling from a European country to explore Scandinavian countries.
Our embarkation was at 0130 am on 28th of February 2022 and we are supposed to reach our destination Svolaraer at 1830 the same day. What is more they have asked us to empty the rooms from 1330!!! although we are going to reach our destination at 18 ...
The ship was renovated in 2016 and is newer and nicer than some of the other Hurtigruten ships. We sailed from Tromsø to Trondheim in March and the scenery was amazing all the way. We stayed at the Arctic Superior cabin which was quite small, but nice and comfortable. However, be aware that you risk to get a cabin on deck 5 with the panorama deck right outside your window with somewhat reduced ...
To see the fjords north of Norway and all the small ports of call onboard a "coast cruiseliner" during wintertime.
It is the company's 150 years aniversery
Embarcation and disembarcation vent smoothly
Ports and Shore excursions were well organised but far too expensive.
A cruise of adventures which you need to do once in your lifetime
In the lounges it was calm and relaxing and ...
A trip primarily to see the Northern Lights but thwarted by weather. Had some rock and rolling due to strong seas,[take seasick pills if you do go]
No entertainment on board. Three sittings for dinner and if the last (as we were) experienced 2 delayed sitting out of 4. Best evening meal was the buffet dinner on arrival.
In winter, Norway is very monochrome - the island etc are rock covered ...
We knew that this two day trip from Tromso to Kirkenes was all about the location and the chance of seeing the Northern Lights, so we were thrilled when we had great viewing the first night on the ship. The captain announced when the lights were visible, and everyone ran to the decks. The North Cape excursion in Honningsvag was well organized and a great experience. As we knew this ship was ...
In my opinion and based on my cruise experience, you cannot rely on anything Hurtigruten (or its sales associates) tell you. I purchased the "Coffee Deal" when I booked my trip. The coffee deal is/was supposed to include an insulated coffee mug (along with no-charge coffee and tea for the duration of the trip). When I checked in, both of the people on the reception desk blithely informed me ...
Absolutely not worth the price. Horrible old ship without any standards and I must say worst ferry experience ever anywhere in the world. One could not imaginate that there still are so back-dated ships. The cabin was under all critism, so scruffy and worn-out without a toilet. And this is still possible in Norway, one of the richest countries in the world - such a huge disappointment! ...
