Five years since our last return transatlantic cruise and we looked forward eagerly to the experience. Not a particularly smooth start with a booking while on the QE last November and being told cabin would be allocated later. Eventually we were told two weeks before embarkation that we had been upgraded. Take this tip - if you are offered cabins on deck four at the rear, especially 4180, say no. They are directly above the Queens Room and the night club. The constant thud thud of amplified sound can be heard until the early hours. But as usual there can be no cabin change as the voyage is full - has anyone been on a voyage when that sign is not on the Pursers desk? Embarkation - never seen the departures hall so full, hardly a spare seat. Priority check-in got us through in around 15 minutes. Cabin spotless as usual - steward Mayo on hand to sort out any problems. Up to the Kings Court for light lunch. I appreciate that I am in a minority but I prefer the old layout and find too many dark areas in the new layout. Food, however, good as ever with tremendous choice. Later Britannia restaurant proved much the same but we felt the choice was more limited, to the extent that some nights we found nothing on the menu to tempt us. Entertainment was the usual Cunard standard ie pretty average with one big exception - we had new films, after years of complaining. Insight lectures were mixed - some good, one excellent and some mediocre. Evening shows in the Royal Court theatre have changed little over the past 12 years - and as anything in the arts is so subjective it seems pointless praising or criticising. The transfer from the Brooklyn cruise terminal to Macy's was a complete shambles, due in some part, to road closures due to 30,000 cyclists taking part in a bikeathon. having been dropped some way from Macy's we were told the pick up would be at 7th and 34th which covers quite a few combinations, worse in the pouring rain. And, of course, no Cunard rep anywhere. Conclusion - we have always loved our return crossings but this will be our last. Difficult to pinpoint why but overall it seemed to lose the magic. Read Less

First of all, starting from embarkation we came across with the same problem, again and again, we have Turkish special passport holders which do not require us to obtain a visa for certain countries. We told it each time to the embarkation personnel and passport officers but they cause us to wait sometimes 2 hours in order to get confirmation. Sometimes they do not accept official letters from embassies. So, they must update the visa requirements checklist including special passport holders. As a frequent traveler, I do not want to be treated as a missing visa issue again and again. Because I do not need to have a visa. Furthermore, as a premier guest, we experienced a lot of problems, some restaurant managers trying to tell me that there are 2000 platinum plus members staying on the ship. Therefore they can not give us a priority in the restaurants. Later I learned that this was a total lie. I reported the situation to the general hotel director and asked him that if I can not get any priority why do I need to choose Norwegian again. I received no response. Therefore you can not receive any priority even if you are too loyal to the cruise line. For thermal suite packages, the ship sold more than the available limits in the spa area. Everybody who finds the door open just jumps in. Everybody start having an argument about sitting in lounge chairs. I was assaulted twice by other passengers. I also reported this situation to the general director but nothing changed. The spa personnel most of the time left the door open or some other guests invite others to use spa for free. Therefore the majority f the passengers get really angry for why they paid extra for thermal spa if everybody can jump inside freely. At last, during the disembarkation process, everything becomes chaotic. The ship personnel can able to collect and make passport stamps while we are on the ship and inside the European premises for one week we traveled to Portugal and Spain ports. But they preferred to do EU entry passport stamps on our own during disembarkation at Barcelona. I have to wait a lot of lines, ship exit line, passport stamp line, baggage collection line and taxi stand time. It takes a complete 3 hours. I have been cruised many times but have not seen such a thing in Barcelona for the recent 10 years. I have been many times cruised with Norwegian but their loyalty seems to be nothing more than 2 free special dinners which are limited to 25 USD max order per cabin not per member. I expect them to give unlimited internet or some more dining night for free but once you get platinum, do not try to get higher because once you reach plat plus only thing you get is a dinning chance with an officer as a group of 3-4 staterooms in a main dining room. Especially in this cruise from Cape Canaveral to Barcelona, most of the passengers are really annoyed because only three shows were presented as unique for 15 days. For other days they repeat the shows again and again. Everybody goes to bed at 7 pm after dinner. So we call the ship as a ghost at late times. Epic is a good ship I have traveled with her 4 times in the past. But it was managed well and the level of the service and fun was great. Use to be Burn the floor took a showplace in Manhattan but no more. I have never heard someone playing the piano in the taste also. Furthermore, the waiters are not trained most of them newly joined to the company. Sometimes you have to wait 2-3 hours for a 3-course meal. For even the laundry they keep saying that every day they receive 5000 bags of laundry, they work so hard, they have no time to rest etc. I do not understand why are they acting like this. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to cruise the West Indies and chose Viking as we wanted to sample the quality of there ocean cruises. We were so glad we did as the whole experience was first class the restaurants were excellent as was the food the staff were very attentive and the ship was superb, the interior of the ship was excellent with loads of space where you could go and relax and read if you wanted to, the afternoon tea was excellent which was served in the winter garden, this is very well designed and extremely pleasant to sit in. Our cabin was very well presented and very comfortable. We also used the spar etc and found this very invigorating with first class facilities. All the included tours we went on were very educational and our tour guides were all very knowledgable about our destinations. This was an excellent cruise and will do another in the future. For a vacation to relax, we took our dance shoes with us, normally on RCCL, there is dance (ball room) music before dinner and after dinner and if you are lucky the bands can play later too ball room music. On the Navigator of the Seas this time, pre recorded music, dancefloor was too small. The big band can play jazz very well, but no ball room music, the waltz was too quick, rumba too quick, only the cha cha cha went well. the other bands was more for latin lovers. We were very disappointed even wrote the Hotel director Cary Davies to draw his attention to this fact but after calling the last day guest service, why he did not answer our letter, it seems that he lost our letter (we gave this letter personally to him, on the Diamond and above event) a lot of excuses, but it was the last day so no ball room for us, only excuses. Overall the food was very good. The ice show was spectecular we enjoy two times one show was specialy for diamonds and above. The ping pong tables were situated on a bad position, only one table was used the whole day by a group they played with 4, so waiting time was more than one hour while the rule is half an hour, this was bad organized. not sophisticated and certainly not sportive to fellow guests. From Southampton nothing was organized to go to the centre 15 minutes walk, no bus shuttle, only taxis. 1608 atlantic cruise no sun shine on the balcony be aware. Read Less

My husband and I wanted to do a transatlantic cruise to Europe from Miami since long time ago, and after trying many other cruise lines we decided to try Norwegian "Big Mistake" The ship was old, falling apart, rusty, the food was terrible, and the entertainment was not the best. The ship was understaffed, poorly trained, and the menus were the same every single day. If you do a cruise for 14 days you have to be creative. \ After being 7 days in the water we made our first stop in Ponta Delgada on a Sunday where almost everything was closed, and the Captain gave us 2 extra hours to be in that place. When we got to Lisbon they just stopped for a couple of hours, and it was not enough to see such an important and beautiful city. There was not variety of food, and the quality was poor. We tried the specialty restaurants and were not that great,but they also had the same menu every single day. We got offered an upgrade a few months before our trip and they asked us to put a bid for a mini suite or a family suite, we got the upgrade from the balcony to a mini suite and it was a total fiasco, the room was not that big and the distribution of the space was really bad, I am petite and skinny, and couldn't even move to adjust the clothing into the closet right next to the bed, the drawers for the extra clothing were broken, and the chairs inside the room were full of rust and one of them had a piece of the leg missing, when we made a complain they sent us a bottle of wine with 3 chocolate strawberries, and 2 dirty bathrobes "disgusting" The whole trip started with 4 hours of lines before boarding. Nobody says anything, and nobody knows nothing in there. I will be firing my travel agent after this trip. Never again with Norwegian. Read Less

If you want to eat after 10 in the evening and want more then a roll or a burnt pizza. Entertainment was a joke the cruise director needs replacing. Example colouring by numbers as an afternoon entertainment. The cruise seemed to concentrate on people who were returning customers rather then new. Formal nights were a joke, you got dressed up to walk into the dining room for your evening meal which you had done the night before. no captain, no entertainment, nothing special at all. did not bother after the 1st one. If you Smoke you are normally allowed to smoke in casino. Not on this ship on formal days all day, weather was bad so could not go up on deck and had to use cigar room which had such poor extractors and stunk, In the casino ashtray was a floor standing one which staff emptied out the ashtrays from the slot machines into and never got emptied all day. Everyone i spoke to and me included had charges for services not used added to bills. AFter 8 days at sea managed to get 3 hours in Boston. Management of Immigration was a joke we should have been first a 6.30 with people on excursions ( instead approx 1500 in gue, emigration delayed .with people queuing for 3 or more hours, will not go on but all i will say is i saw people crying with boredom, This cruise turned into a prison sentence. so will i use again never twice crew members maimed to music on the bridge on the promenade and that was about as lively as it got. If you had kids it was things for them to do. there was all ways food to eat any time of the night, Dining was awesome activities the cabins had lots of room, the staff was very courteous.ship information was available when needed. Shore excursions were great, The embarkation and the disembarkation went very smoothly. Before we left the ship it was always explain what to expect. we like fact that we were able to choose our dinner time.I would love to travel on the Freedom of the sea again.The pictures on the wall of the ship were nice to look at. When walking in the ship it remind me of walking downtown where I shop,beautiful lights that lite up the ship. Read Less

I had read that there could be problems with a ship leaving dry dock and it was true. There is no need to list everything that was wrong, but there were many things that took about five days to remedy. That being said, the prices had been discounted drastically which did compensate for most of the problems. If this had been my first cruise on a Princess ship it would have been my last. I hope people who were on this cruise consider this when judging the line. Along with leaving dry dock, they were changing a lot of venues, menus, and how things are priced. Cruise food for the inclusive venues reflect the price of the cruise and is sort of like going to Denny's or Applebees. Many of the changes were wonderful, but when you are used to certain things being there it is an adjustment. It seems that waffles are a thing of the past along with peppermint tea being replaced by a spearmint version. I used to look forward to those items on the vacation. As Princess rolls the changes out on the rest of their older ships I hope they listen to their loyalty members regarding the changes. Many of the complaints I heard were from people who have cruised on more expensive lines and their comparisons were like comparing Morton's Steak House with Sizzler. If you want Morton's you are going to have to spend the cover and go to The Crown Grill. The staff doing the art auction we not as friendly, except the blonde, Lanna. The main auctioneer was brash. She liked to promote her non-profit in Africa, and herself. Also, other Princess ships auction staff gave free mass produced prints out for attending any events, this group didn't even give them after the last two hour auction. Many older people have problems with knees and hips and need to use an exercise bike instead of a treadmill. They only had a few bikes, they don't let the spinning bikes be used. Read Less

Where do i begin? From the chaos of not organising the coaches effectively taking us to / from the ship, to failing to top up the soft drinks for days on certain machines, to failing to clean slippery spills in a restaurant completely when the ship was about to enter severe weather (and causing at least one serious avoidable fall), to the captain not caring / understanding that food should either be served hot or chilled (not luke warm), the basic standards simply aren't there! Which is such a shame, because the vast majority of the ships crew that interact with the passengers are friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and willing to go above and beyond to make your trip excellent. Let me clarify the food issue. Myself and many passengers were grumbling that food items were not hot (despite being under heat lamps. If it's veg not an issue, however this was happening with chicken! I noticed that a particular chicken dish was luke warm. I mentioned it to the manager. He tested the temperature with his finger on a piece of chicken, and agreed that it was not hot, and hence couldn't be served. However, they did not remove the tray with all the other pieces of chicken which were also unfit! This is unforgivable, especially as they mention everywhere in the restaurants, that the food should be hot to be served! I also confirmed this with a chef in one of the other onboard restaurants, so the staff do know that it shouldn't be like this! I asked to discuss my fall and the food issues with the captain on eight attempts, however each time, whilst they stated i was allowed to speak to the captain, they refused to arrange a meet! Indeed it was only by pure chance that i caught the captain and spoke to him! I was staggered that the captain showed no concern that the food may well be served against food safety standards, and stated to me that "chicken can be served luke warm as long as it was cooked previously"!!! Considering the captain is responsible for the welfare of all passengers and crew under his command, i would have thought he should be aware of basic food safety standards - i am and i am not involved in the food industry - and a chef onboard confirmed i was right! For a captain to show no real concern for food safety, even if you accept he doesn't have to be aware of basic food safety standards, again it is unforgivable to not care about the food safety! But perhaps it is more important for the captain to stand for pictures, and cosy up to the expensive cabin passengers, than care for passengers he knew suffered a physical injury cause by his staff's incompetence! Avoid like the plague. Read Less

this ship is the best. the ship size was a bit to big for my opinion, well i like a bit big ,but not to much. we ordered to be in the haven. lovely. it was a king size bed there was 3 balconies one with a sun roof. the room was spacious. the entertainment was excellent. there was 5 shows in the morning and 8 shows in the evening. this ship had nickelodeon on board. so when you watch it on the telly it is on a cruise ship. the dining was okay. the menu in cagney's steakhouse was amazing.. we participated in the conger dance on deck when we left new York we loved the dance routine. the buffet was lovely it was just it is always packed. we weren't allowed coffee in the day the same with milk. the staff are very friendly patting your heads giving you hugs and stroking your head there like your mom ore dad. i probably enjoyed the view the most. when we went to Barcelona the first couple day at sea was good and the last couple was really boring. it felt like you were trapped. the service was amazing they let us book an excursion in new York. this ship is more for children then adults because its more screens and slides everywhere.we have had a voyage on the opera and that is better. oh well! this was still amazing. there was the le bistro that we had snails and pigeon. mom was shocked by millionaire dollar. while we was on this cruise we saw msc aromia, qm2, azura and carnival triumph. the aromia was a mid sized ship the right size for me. the triumph has suffers lots of damages and engine fire. this ship is big and not my type of ship.the queen Mary 2 is very old fashion. the boarding scheduled were to small for every body to get of that 3,467 passenger liner.the azura was massive I've heard it is one of the biggest ships in the world it is by p&o a British line.oh and we saw anthem of the seas .our ship was 5 cm bigger . so i said"we're bigger than you. the children club on the escape was anightmare. it was to good there was a children aqua park with fast slides.the embarkation in hamburg was ridiculous. we waited 6 hrs and then we didn't bother. we got a cocktail and had a bit of a swim. in Bruges we saw the opera. I've been on her the escape was much different to the msc opera . the ports were lovely, apart from new york. new york was a bit packed. back to Madeira my home port. then i flied to the uk. and told my family how much i loved it. finnaly i found this usefull website to help people not to waste thier money if they dont like a ship! This was the maiden voyage of the Divina from Venice to Miami, 18 days aboard luxury. Well this was our third Cruise with MSC,and upon walking aboard at Venice, we were pleasantly amazed. We check internet rates,Repositioning cruises and do a lot of trolling cruise lines before deciding,but have found MSC have certainly upped their game since our first cruise on the Armonia. The Divina is in a class of it's own. We were originally a bit hesitant about being so low down on deck 5, but this turned out to be one of the best decks to be on. Ok if you have plenty of money and are wanting a balcony or suite,but we just like an outside room so we can see arrivals in ports, and apart from that,who wants to spend all their days cooped up in their cabin anyway We arrived at the port at about 2pm and were straight on Board and enjoying our first drinks within the hour. The terminal at Venice is very comfortable, and the processing speedy. Train takes you from the bus terminal to the berth. The Divina is a fantastic ship,as soon as you step aboard she has you memorised.and although we were a little concerned about being on a ship with over 4,000 passengers,we did not feel crowded at all.You were meeting new people each day that were elsewhere on the ship that you had not disovered. With the Divina, what we had an exceptional crew.A lot of the staff are from Bali and have the spirit and friendlyness of Indonesia,but they are worked hard for the money they get and are treated poorly by those in authoritve roles.This is why I asked to have my gratuities rescinded so I could pay those who made my trip worthwhile rather than the money go into the big pot and those at the top taking the cream. We had exceptional service from the bar persons and waitresses,always smiling, and as I have certain alergies to certain foods,the The assistant Maitre D’ checked my choices every night, and bought a menu for the following night so I could choose. The helpfulness and personal touch certainly made our trip a memorable one. Food in the dining rooms was a let down,maybe because we had had such good meals on the last cruises made us more critical,but one night we had lamb,which was sent back by the majority of those who were served it. the meals lacked variety.Chef needs a wake up call. But saying that, the buffet meals were varied and plentyful,although we only discovered the different selections on going to other parts of the massive self serve areas there was Chinese,Italian,Indian,Greek,vegetarian etc. We booked the Allegrissimo drinks package at $44 per person per day,and although expensive due to the fact my wife did not drink that much,and you had to have two per cabin. But, it was nice not to have to worry about how much it was going to cost for every drink, and there were nice wines for the evening meals as well. One did not have to worry about the 15% surcharge per drink,and speciality coffees were included. Being in the center of the ship has it's advantages,less rocking,and when we boarded it was only a short walk to our cabin. The Autrium rose up 9 floors and along with piano playing and the bars dotted around, this became quite a focal point for people to meet. tt was nice after an evening meal to congregate and indulge in a cocktail or two before retiring. There were several bars and entertainment areas around the ship to suit all tastes. We agree that the entertainment was absolutely first rate! The shows that they put on were well done, but they had a fasination with violin players,and going by the lack of patronage,it should have signalled that the customers wanted more shows and variety. A bit more of the singers and a Italian opera would have gone down better. Those that they did,were well attended. The one annoying aspect we found on the poolside,was the continued showing of MSC propoganda on the big screen,day in day out.It would have been nice to maybe have scenes from the previous days entertainment on board or movies at night . One let down was lack of buses when the ships hit a port,one would think that the companies plying the tourists would be well prepared and lay on extra services to accommodate the crowds. We really felt we were treated to a holiday and despite our misgivings of last cruises would happily sail with MSC again. One good thing is they look after repeat customers,with discounts for future travel. In fact we are booked to go on our next cruise in November on the Orchestra Read Less

The holiday got off to a dissapointing start when our flight was delayed because of an outage with the baggage belt supply at Gatwick. After just over 2 hours we finally took off. The service was very slow on Thomas Cook flight. As usual they do not regard themselves as in the service industry but are "inflight safety officers". The temperature on the aircraft was very cold to suit the cabin crew working, and not the passengers. Upon arrival at the Venturer, we were impressed with the efficency of the check in, also the transfer from the aircraft. The Venturer is a very big well kept ship. The big let down is the staff on the whole of the ship. There is one nationality which is prevalent throughout the ship and they just do not pay attention, are very slow, and walk about in pairs talking to each other. The one exeption was the cabin steward, Martin. He excelled in his work and was always happy if sometimes a little tired. The mixed fruit at breakfast always ran out quickly and was never replenished quick enough. When I asked one of the supervisors in a white uniform to do something about it his attitude was not what it should have been. The edges of the dining room in the breakfast buffet were never clean. Maybe the staff are used to living like it but the officers should inspect it better and educate them The entertainment during the day was dire. The guest speaker could send you to sleep every afternoon with his monotonous droning from a book. The quiz prizes were a joke. nothing usefull like a bottle of wine. Just silly stars like a child at primary school would receive for merit. As in other reviews, trying to get a drink in the Exchange bar was very difficult. The staff also played some dreadfull rock music which they must have liked, but could not have suited the average age group of the people using the bar. We booked freedom dining, but when we got there, we were told we HAD to got to Saffron restaurant at 18.30 as too many people wanted freedom dining. When we booked by telephone with P&O we were not told there was a possibility we would be changed. When we complained, the reception staff pointed out a very small "wl" next Freedom dining on the booking form which denoted wait listed.Because of this, were restricted to that restaurant or the buffet which was always very full. There were other venues to dine which P&O unbelievably wanted you to pay for.The food must have been the same, so you had to pay for better service. One of the venues, East, was Asian food. Now, the curries in the buffet did not seem authentic,(surprising as they were cooked by Indians) so I didnt think it would be a good idea to pay and be disappointed. On the transatlantic crossing, the ship took a detour to the Azores instead of calling at Tenerife. The captain told us this was to avoid bad weather. I rather suspect this was to save a massive amount of fuel,and of course, money. On other cruises, the majority of staff seemed to be Phillipino, who were a delightful race of people, always so happy, and more importantly, good at the job. This ship needs a complete crew change. P&O staff were not good at the job,and sometimes surly. I suggest the people running P&O try a little "undercover boss" trips on their own ships and then on other cruise lines to see where they are going wrong. I think I'll give P&O a miss in future.
