Just returned from the Tokyo to Singapore (25day)segment of the World Cruise on Insignia. (We were not advised at time of booking with Oceania that we were joining a world cruise)Spent a lot of money on this trip and have never had such a bad experience on Oceania. We were not aware we were joining aprox 360 world cruisers (w.c’s.) but found out right away that cliques had already been established and it was almost impossible to penetrate the barrier between the segment guests and the w.c’s. Getting a large table for dinner was near impossible (never experienced that). Several events were organized for the w.c’s (special events and private parties)while the rest of the segment guests were left behind with little and sometimes no entertainment at all. We also realized the segment guests were paying US$100 pp.pd more than the wc’s we assume to subsidize the world cruise. Never been on an Oceania Cruise where there were NO extra activities. Especially on sea days. It was the usual bag o beans, trivia, mini putt and table tennis. It was sooo... boring. We made our displeasure known to the concierge on two occasions and promises were made that our concerns would be escalated but of course we heard nothing. We have sailed many times with Oceania but won’t will be sailing with them again. Perhaps the new owners (NCL) are making their presence known. Read Less

There is not enough time to see anything on land, even on tours. Food is so so and the same dishes are repeated over the week. Drinking water is not free in the restaurant and ridiculously expensive. Entertainment on board is boring and are outdated even for seniors. The cruise ship is too small and not ther is enough to do. Even the swimming pool is so small, just like a whirlpool. In general, the restaurant and bar staff are very friendly and accommodating. Most of them are happy to serve, even if you can tell that they hardly have any break. The service is the only one I have really good to say. Embarkation and going through immigration takes so long, at least an hour, when you only have 4-5 hours after disembarking. Overall, it’s a waste going on this cruise. If you expect to see Japan, fly directly to Japan and skip this cruise. There are also hidden fees that they won’t tell you until you are booked. They will also require for the tips on top of the cost. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the destination reasons....However the food and entertainment were not changed at all from the first 8 days to the second 8 days...and the lack of attention to detail by staff meant that we missed out on 2 tours. Also this is the only ship we have ever cruised on where you are asked to move from the decks at 2.00 p.m in the afternoon so that they can do maintenance...It was disgraceful. The Entertainment was absolutely shocking and the Cruise Director was terrible. Although the Food service was ok. the food was repediative and very small servings. Embarkation and Disembarkation was quite smooth.... We were told the adult pool area would be available and once we got on we found it was not in service on this cruise. Excursions were o.k but I do advise for people not to book for the Crane Park in Japan it is a complete waste of money. Read Less

This was an eighteen day cruise. We've been on six cruises on different companies. We rated our experience on Princess in the Orient at the bottom of our list. Service was unexpectedly poor. The wait staff in the buffet Horizon Dining Room was marginal. Most performed adequately but several among them, perhaps as many as one in five, were rude. The overwhelming impression is that the wait staff employees are trained but not motivated. They didn't seem to accept the idea that their contribution was essential to the success of the cruise. The angriest of a disenchanted minority behaved as though they were indentured servants. Yes, it was that bad at times. Some complaints must have been registered because service improved significantly about halfway through the cruise. The quality of the food, particularly the meat, was substandard. The meat throughout the cruise was tough. The filets, Strip steaks, and Chautebriands were difficult to slice. And portions for all dishes were unbelievably small at the onset of the cruise but increased in size towards the end of the cruise. I must state that we normally eat very small portions and frequently share meals. We signed up for almost all the excursions but cancelled all of them after having taken the first two. The contracted tour guide in one case spoke very poor English; the places visited by another was unimpressive. Our cabin accommodations were good and our assigned steward was excellent. However, the two categories critical to any cruise, uneven service and poor food quatlity are too important to overlook or dismiss. Read Less
