Overall, while we enjoyed our vacation, the on-board experience of the RSSC explorer failed to live up to the hype of an ‘ultra’ luxury cruise line and we will be unlikely to book again.

This was our first cruise with Regent and our first cruise on a 'Luxury Cruise Line' prior to this we had done over 400 days of cruising on Princess and other supposedly next level down cruise lines.•

We chose this Tokyo-to-Tokyo 2-week Regent cruise based on its active itinerary, and friends who invited us to join them during cherry-blossom season. We added the 3 days in Tokyo before the departure. Our high expectations were dashed upon landing at Narita. Itinerary was what attracted us and we were happy with each destination except for the Mt. Fuji tour which only took us to the gift shop on Mt. Fuji rather than further up the mountain. The ship is dated and could use a thorough cleaning. Princess' business model seems to be to nickel and dime you at every opportunity which leaves a very poor impression overall.
