Hi all , myself and my family decided after a lot of mixed feelings to book a cruise and as this was our first we decided to do 1 week cruising and 3 days in a hotel . Let me start by saying that myself and my family were all very excited about setting sail for the first time as TUI have a good name in value for money cruises. As it was our first cruise we went with our friends who have been on 3 other Tui cruises and highly recommended them . This is how me and my family rated the Tui Discovery 2. customer service - very poor many staff had the wrong attitude towards paying customers , I had to bite my tongue on more then one occasion, the amount of time spent standing at the bar waiting to get served was incredible, they need more staff. The only staff that were friendly and made me smile were cabin cleaners . Thanks Lino. Food - the island self service restu rant is very poor , the gallery restaurants were hit and miss and not a great choice, glass house wasn't bad but very small portions and only seated a small amount of people , the snack shack food was OK for fast food, not something you would have day in day out . The other restaurants that you pay extra for were all booked up within the first two hours of being on the ship, so we couldn't get in at all. Shops - don't open until 18:30 and are completely rubbish unless you want tobacco or designer items . Pool - this was more like a kitchen sink . Sunbeds - Tui says you can't hold a sunbed for more then an hour if your not present , that's rubbish as people pegged towels to beds and we're gone all day . Very crampt deck area . Glass house pool - nice but couldn't understand why children had to leave the indoor pool by a certain time , it's hot outside and the kids wanted to play in the pool. And here is my biggest gripe with this disappointing ship, Entertainment - without a shadow of a doubt the worse entertainment I have ever experienced on a holiday , either live music ,live music ,live music, dance lessons, or bingo , I expected so much more from a company like TUI. Cruise - never again with Tui. Read Less

It's our 3rd cruise with Tui and afraid to say the worst. Food quality has declined and fights have been delayed. The excursions were poorly managed even from the tui run ones. We only had one tender to shore when we booked but ended up having 2 due to other cruise liners taking our spot. Then delaying our tours We have seen fights on ship which is very unnecessary. Rules such as shorts in the restaurants have been overlooked and people just get away with what they like (hence the fighting and lack of respect towards crew). They are by far the cheapest cruise company we have seen but unfortunately it's still a lot of money to us and we expect better service. Its a shame as we have enjoyed our cruise with Tui in the past but each year they have got gradually worse. Will not be going again with them. Read Less

No sleep for first three night due to noisy mechanical faults in corridor affecting eight cabins in a row, blocked toilets everywhere on board, water coming up through vent in showe least 2 inches deep. Workmen outside cabin for three days unable to fix the faults. Filthy sunloungers covered in food spilt drinks etc these loungers never wiped over before they was put away. The smell of dirty old fat with poor quality food from the outside Liddo bar, inside the Liddo restaurant was average to poor quality food barely warm daily. The Medusa restaurant average food again not hot. Dirty decking areas from spilt drinks with glasses remaining from two nights before. False advertising and misleading pricing in the on board shop, lipsticks clearly priced direct underneath the item with NO other items in the window at £6.50 but in the shop priced as £16.50, manager uncooperative and rude when this was pointed out. This is only the tip of the iceberg, I have photos to support everything I have stated. This was our very first cruise but we went with my sister who has been on 20 cruises and the second time on this ship, she couldn't believe how standards have fallen and how must smaller the all inclusive package had gotten, all inclusive doesn't mean that at all. There is a definite feeling of TUI (Thompson) crabbing every penny they can and even misleading people to get it. We chose our cabins with 20 cruises worth of experience and paid £47 each more to ensure peace and tranquility, how wrong could we have been. I don't take any medication at all but after three nights with very little sleep I had to result in asking another passenger foe sleeping tablets. The all inclusive package was reduced and difficult to work out with staff making mistakes resulting in passengers being billed. The itinerary was changed from Turkey to Greece disappointed we still chose to go only to have the new itinerary cut short due to late docking or no docking at all in Rhodes, this was due to the tug breakdown. This ship goes for a complete refurbishment in November and quite frankly it is in desperate need of it now, our cabin number was 5022 through to 5038 all suffered the same troubles. Read Less

Very dated boat - probably looked good in the 1980's but not in comparison to modern ships. We paid about £800 a night for this cruise - probably about the same rate as some of London's top hotels. In return got dull, luke-warm, very plain food, which we had to fetch ourselves from the buffet. Reception told us not to bother going to the a la carte restaurant - apparently if you wear £150 pair of jeans you aren't as special as someone wearing 2 for a tenner chinos from the Daily Mail special offers page. The board basis was meant to be 'All Inclusive' yet this only entitles you to a 'basic' drinks package - they constantly try to get you to pay £50 to upgrade to a premium package. Not quite All Inclusive then - but I suppose Semi-Inclusive has less sales appeal. Talking of trying to push sales, Thomson has all their staff at it - even the Captain came over the Tannoy at many of the ports trying to flog us bottled water from the ship because it was 'cheaper' than onshore (it wasn't), and advising us to get a Boat Taxi at Venice rather than walking - even though we found out it was only a 30 minute walk. Poolside it was a bit like Butlins at sea with young 'entertainment' hosts trying to enforce fun on the passengers by playing daft games and quizzes that everyone just googles the answers for. Ruined the poolside peace more than anything else. The water in the pool had an interesting grey colour with plenty of dead wasps, empty beer cups and used plasters floating about all day. The boat is also badly sound proofed. We booked a suite cabin which is situated on the deck below the 'Medusa Bar' which has mediocre bands blaring out the same old done-to-death songs at volume 11 through till midnight - I appreciate this isn't that late but we have a 6 and 4 year old who wished to go to sleep at 10pm who kept being disturbed by the bass, wailing, stomping feet and drunken cheering. There was no point asking to be moved cabins as they only have 5 suites and I think they are all on the same deck so we didn't bother. To our amazement, we bumped into a number of guests who were actually returning for the second, third or fourth+ time on this boat! Have people not seen what you can get elsewhere for less money?? Maybe its something to do with the marketing - something I would give Thomsons five stars for - as at every turn they bombard you with 'please come back next year' begging announcements. Thompson unfortunately are money first, customer second , we felt very strongly that it was all about squeezing every last penny from you, this was our first cruise and probably our last, The Thompson dream is dated, the food very poor, you are unable to leave your sun bed for more than 45 mins, if you do your belongings are taken to reception because there are nowhere near enough sun beds, so forget a relaxing lunch, stuff it down and legg it back, excursions are unnecessarily expensive, average £220 per day for a family of 4 , housekeeping staff were lovely, reception staff rude and abrupt, our daughter was injured on the ship by a broken lamp, we went to reception and asked for a plaster and whilst she was dripping blood we were talked through the prices," Buy your own plasters from the shop or pay £47 to open the medical centre" no concern for her what so ever !! , money money money ! On an over priced cruise anyway, I urge you to shop around ! Read Less

My wife and I booked a last minute cruise departing Belfast on Sept 8th with Thomsons on the Celebration ship on a cruise called Ancient Wonders, a very apt name as the ship is nearly ancient and a wonder that it is allowed to sail considering the regular outbreaks of norovirus on the ship. We got off to a good start with the flight leaving Belfast at the allotted take off time 7am for the 4.5 hour flight to Dalaman in Turkey. We enjoyed nice flight until it was time to start our descent to land, the plane dropped down very suddenly causing many on board to scream with fear before banking away and climbing again, this happened about 5/6 times before the captain came on the intercom to tell us that he was having problems getting a landing slot due to the amount of air traffic around Dalaman airport, he then advised that if no slot available on the next attempt that he would have to divert to another airport as he was running low on fuel, you can imagine what affect this had on the passengers on board. After another futile attempt he was then forced to fly to Bodrum airport to land and refuel. We eventually landed in Dalaman at 5.30pm, some 4 hours later than planned. We should have been on the ship around 3pm but did not board until almost 8pm, therefore losing any chance to spend some time in Marmaris.we boarded the ship and made our way to the cabin which was pretty much what we had expected. We then made our way to the buffet restaurant as this was the only venue open for dining and were shocked to see that staff were serving the self service food as there were cases of norovirus ongoing and the public were not allowed to serve themselves or even make a cup of tea. This greatly detracted from the enjoyment as there were difficulties due to staff not understanding what customers wanted and long queues developing due to the slowness in serving the food. As the week went on the norovirus became more wide-spread with. Number of passengers becoming infected and in some cases detained in their cabins. Staff were constantly sanitising all areas around the ship including a number of cabins on our deck. By the middle of the week my wife and I began to feel ill and decided to eat & drink as little as possible on the ship for the rest of the holiday, we survived by eating when we went ashore and by buying soft drinks & water etc off the ship, we returned home on Monday 15th and have both had to take time of work due to this illness. Our feeling is that the ship needs to be taken out of commission and to be completely overhauled, sanitised and checked to ensure that the norovirus is eliminated. On second day at sea all the power failed (albeit for a short time) and the Turkish authorities banned the ship from sailing any further until their inspectors had boarded the ship and checked that all was in order re the power supply. A few days before we returned home a number of cabins facing is were flooded, they had to be evacuated, stripped of all beds, carpets etc and satanised. We were delighted when we were able to leave the ship for the journey home.   Read Less

Been on few cruises in the last few years but would not go back on discovery 2. Corfu airport very small and massive que on way home. Some people were having to que outside as there flight was delayed. Upgraded to a balcony room on 6th floor which was lovely. Staff nice. Did three excursions. Two were on the electric bikes which were great. George and Sophie were great guides. Would highly recommend this. Did an excursion in Venice think it was called secret escape? It was awful not at all like it’s advertised. Would not recommend. Hot tubs were not hot and a few times only one worked. Service in restaurants and bars were very slow and it appeared the staff were not experienced. Never enough staff on. Entertainment was poor apart from opera singer Benjamin. Was really disappointed after spending a lot of money on this cruise.Would rather go on an older ship where you are looked after better. Read Less

Our travel agent Thomas Cook recomended this cruise ship. The told us so many things which were actually untrue. We paid for a deluxe Grande suite with a concierge and although the suite was nice the rest was a complete disappointment. When we embarked, there was no one to welcome us on board. We had to ask where to go as new passengers and this was unclear. Eventually we found reception and that was not a great experience. The food in the 47 degree restaurant was so bad we sent it back twice and then decided to eat in the self service restaurant. This was also a hit or a miss. The late night snacks in the inside pool area were great and perfect for a midnight supper. All the staff were great apart from some reception staff. Mareja was always helpful. At the bar on the 9th deck, where smoking is permitted, some of the girl waitresses were dreadful. One told me I couldn't have my drink in a tall glass when I had been having it all day. However, mark, Denni and Romel were wonderful. The live entertainment was good and the comedian was particularly good. The Shows at night started to blend into each other. The first stop was Santorini. Beautiful but very busy as several ships had docked for the day. A good pair of comfortable shoes are required. Overall, captain Chris tried to do a good job but if the food isn't great and apologies for this are only given to people in superior accommodation then his head of restaurants, Antonio needs to review not only his staff but his protocols. I was made aware that their were two deaths on the ship and the pianist was put off the ship for assaulting another entertainment staff member. I rarely saw security, perhaps they need to be more aware of the amount of alcohol being sold. The highlight was visiting Rhodes. A beautiful place and lots to see and buy. Read Less

Great entertainment, The ship is falling apart.our cabin smelled fusty and the bolts from our cabin door we found on the floor, windows not cleaned internally despite us asking, we was charged for things from mini bar that was never there(coca cola) the chocolate out of date, All stairways on board are extremely smelly a horrid dusty smell When on deck 1 embarking or disembarking smell of sewage is over powering and you have to hold your breathe as much as possible and get through as quick as possible When calling lift mid ships deck 4 my fingers disappeared into the wall when I pressed the button. As I tried to pull my hand back the switch trapped my fingers injuring them, I reported it and was just told maintenance would be informed I was not asked how I was or to fill my n an accident report, despite reporting this twice on board and twice since home have received no response what so ever from Tui Ship needs complete over Hall painting over cracks and rust is not sufficient The entertainment and food also activities is a good standard what a shame they let their selves down with a reactive approach to maintenance intstead of a proactive approach Also a health and safety together with a reporting of accidents and a monitoring system put it place Prevention is always better than a cure or as in my case they ignored my report of the incident twice on board and 3 emails since arriving home to this day I have not had any reply from either Tui or Marella The foreign staff on board we found very friendly the uniformed European staff we found to be less so mostly ignoring the passengers Read Less

My wife and I were on the first sailing of the Discovery 2, in 2017, when it was under the TUI flag has anything changed in a year? – Please read on. We booked for two weeks taking the Aegean Shores and Adriatic Explorer Cruises We decided to upgrade our cabin to deck 7 “inside plus” but hadn’t realised the affect that no natural light would have and definitely would not recommend this so-called upgrade. The food was good albeit repetitious in both the 47 Degrees and Gallery 47 Restaurants however both restaurants served a very good Merlot which was part of the all-inclusive package. In order to get to the evening entertainment a few times we had dinner in the Island buffet restaurant which offered a good range of well cooked dishes. The Islands restaurant is buffet service only. At breakfast and lunch times it is very overcrowded with people wandering around attempting to find somewhere to sit. At dinner time it is much less busy. Draught wine and beer is available at lunch and dinner times. The beer is good John Smiths bitter and Foster’s lager the wine is best left alone. On deck 9 there is the Snack Shack offering excellent fish and chips at lunch time and other items throughout the day. The all-inclusive package has degraded since our first trip. Bombay Sapphire Gin is now a supplement as are a number of the cocktails and I cannot understand why you have to pay for the bottle of temperate bottled water in the cabin. Most of the shows in the Broadway Show Lounge we had seen before with the exception of a very good comedian and a dance show that was choreographed by Anton Du Beke. In the evening entertainment in the Atrium area is very poor. There is either a singer – guitarist, with a limited repertoire who seems to suffer with laryngitis and what his voice lacks in quality is compensated for in terms of volume. Then there is the saxophonist loud, boring and if I hear Baker Street again I will not be responsible for my actions. And finally, a singer with a selection of songs from Oklahoma – simply awful. There is nowhere on Discovery 2 where, in the evening, you can sit and talk quietly without having you ears blown away – if there is we never found it. I did hear a fellow passenger raise this issue at reception however I never heard the reply. If I haven’t raised enough negative points here is the best one. As previously mentioned we were on the Discovery 2 first sailing so by coincidence we were on Discovery 2 for its first birthday. There was a birthday party around the pool with a cake and drinks the large video screen showed a continuous video of the ship being refitted. At the time we were moored in Venice where we had been for the day. The video screen then showed a singer who was on stage and she was singing “Time to say Goodbye” when the screen flickered and eventually went blank. At this time we were heading up the Grand Canal to the sea. We had been travelling for less than 30 minutes when the ship came to a stop. We were subsequently told that there had been a breakdown of the “propulsion system” and that we were going to be towed back to the berth we had just left. As a consequence we were berthed overnight in Venice whereas we should have been on our way to Split a town my wife and I had never visited and was one reason we booked this cruise. Therefore once the ship was repaired we spent yet another day at sea and the next port was Dubrovnik. As compensation for an extra day at sea and missing our visit to Split we were given a £25 credit each to our cabin bill which we consider to be a despicable gesture on the part of Marella. One positive note on which to finish. We were invited to a reception for previous cruise travellers, something Thomson or Tui had never bothered with before and hopefully is an indication that Marella feel that they should acknowledge customer loyalty. We have been on 2 Thomson cruises in the last couple of years, Island escape and discovery, both cruises were perfect, great food, great service and friendly atmosphere, so this year we decided to do the Aegean meze on the dream expecting the same level of service and good quality of food, We were disappointed on both fronts. We arrived fairly late on the first day so only had one option for eating, Sirens buffet restaurant, our first impressions were not good, the seats were dirty, more like a works canteen than a restaurant, the ship is small and as expected the restaurants are also small with little room in sirens for a wide selection of food as such there was not much to choose from, the food in the serving area's looks unappetizing is tepid and flavourless, We never saw any galley staff check the temperature of the food, we doubted the food would pass any food hygiene audits. We did not eat in Sirens again, The other buffet restaurant on a lower deck was cleaner but the food was the same bland and tepid food, we preferred to eat in when we went ashore, as a consequence we were always hungry. The Bar service was terrible, we had a choice of waiting 20 minutes or more at the bar or wait longer for a passing waiter, the times we managed to order from a waiter they often got the orders wrong or failed to deliver at all, at one stage I ordered a drink from a waiter and then went to get a drink from a neighbouring bar where the queues were a little smaller when the waiter had not returned after half an hour, to find when I returned my wife had got a drink, not the drink she ordered from the waitress but mine failed to materialize. Another time the waiter forgot what we had ordered and had to return to ask again, he had only taken 2 steps before forgetting again. Having said that, the staff were friendly and seemed to be happy with a good sense of team work amongst the staff and crew. The entertainments teams were professional and worked hard to ensure the passengers had a good time. The showteam were good with some decent shows, but not as good as we had seen on past cruises. The cabin was clean and spacious and the cabin crew worked long hours and did there best to make us comfortable, nothing was too much trouble and they were always smiling. This cruise has really put us off Thomson/Marella/TUI, we are looking to book with another cruise line for next year. Our complaints to thomson have not been met with a good response so I have to give customer service a big thumbs down. Our fellow passengers were mostly friendly, we met some great people on board which did go a long way to making our holiday better. Read Less

The ship is mid range in size and looks old. I found the ship to be quite stable and had little roll when sailing. The ship is easy to navigate and there are plenty of lifts. The staff are very good and work very hard. Food is very average at best and there was a severe lack of fresh fruit and seafood. The only fresh fruit was melon. At the back of the cold counter were rows of apples and oranges that you had to stretch across and get, however, they were not fresh. I only saw 3 bananas the whole cruise. I saw no berries. There was a poor selection of foods for the evening meal. We tried the hot stone restaurant once which is £17.50 each I think but I was not impressed. Our cabin was an inside cabin on deck 5 (5001). This was the very first starboard cabin and was the noisiest I have experienced. There was a constant banging all day and night and we had drilling noises at 2am. Every port we entered was about 6 to 7am and the ropes/anchor were lowered which was noisy for about 30 minutes. There was no let up and we visited a port most days. When we complained we were advised that there were no other cabins available but if one became available they could move us! A member of staff came to our cabin and witnessed the banging himself one afternoon. The gym is OK but like the ship the equipment is old. Entertainment is quite good and the resident band are very good and versatile. The stage performances were good. The itinerary was good and we visited lovely places but I wish the ship has been better. Read Less

This was our third cruise with thomson, and probably our last. We arrived late due to a late flight to corfu, we were tired and hungry so decided to go to the only restaurant that was open at the time, Sirens, we found the buffet style restaurant quite small, the food choice was not as good as we had become accustomed to on cruises, the seats were very dirty and stained, my wife refused to sit down on some seats because of they were that bad, looking under the table we found bits of food that had fallen off the tables and not cleaned properly. The food was tepid and not hot enough to inhibit bacteria growth. We thought the food issue was probably due to us being late in the restaurant, however, we soon found out it did not matter when we ate, the food was a poor standard in both of the buffet restaurants at all times, the food was so poor we hardly ate on board the ship, after complaining we were told, everyone else is happy so it cant be that bad, this seemed to be the stock answer even when we complained to thomson on our return, customer service seems to be a dirty word here. The swimming pool was dirty and always covered in scum. There did seem to be plenty of sunbeds and we never had trouble finding a bed each even on sea day. The bars were busy and did seem to be understaffed, there were a few times when we ordered drinks from the waiters when we either did not get our drinks or got he wrong drinks delivered, if we went to the bar we had to wait in long queues but the bar staff and waiters were friendly and happy. The entertainment was good, not fantastic, the show team did a good job with the shows and the entertainers did a good job of entertaining us. Our cabin was a good size and clean and our cabin steward was always helpful. We paid for one excursion to the corinth canal, we did not think this was worth the money we paid and could have probably been better off making our own way to the site. Our favourite trip was one we did on our own to Olympia, this cost us 10 euro on the bus and 12 euro each to get into the ancient olympic site. The issue with the food and the bar sevice really let this ship down and the fact that the complaints were met with quite a terse response from thomson and no real appology we will not be booking with Thomson or TUI again. Gallery 47 restaurant was ok and we only had to wait about 10 to 15 mins to be seated you get a buzzer so you can go and have a drink while you are waiting. Bar staff were good in live bar and around the pool also when watching the shows always asking if you need anymore drinks. We paid to upgrade to a delux cabin with a balcony on seventh deck which was very nice the only down side which spoiled our holiday was that this cabin has a VERY VERY Bad vibration through out the cabin from the balcony to the front door this happened every time the engines were running day and although the night the bed was shaking we later found out that cabin 7088 has the same problem. Aegean Shores – TUI Marella Discovery 2 (7 day cruise) This was our second TUI cruise and overall it was enjoyable and due to the ports of call. Booking I booked through the TUI offices in West Lothian and spoke to a lady called Lynne. She was absolutely fabulous and I can’t thank her enough for her time and assistance. Flights and Transfers The flights were on time and the in-flight service was excellent. My only issue is that once checked in we then had to collect our cases on arrival and haul them to coaches. Previously, once we’d checked in, the next time we saw our cases was outside our cabin door. Cabin Our cabin was spacious and I only have praise for housekeeping staff, Irinya who serviced our cabin on a daily basis and was excellent. Food We ate almost exclusively in the 47° restaurant for breakfast, dinner and the occasional lunch. The waiter service was friendly and efficient. Sometimes we had to wait for a table but never longer than 20 minutes. The food was varied and of good quality. Unfortunately the food elsewhere on board was not so good. Snack Shack – This busy pool side food area serves chips, battered fish and chicken wings, all day EVERY DAY! This became very monotonous which was frustrating and disappointing. Also the sandwiches were wrapped in a paper bag and had minimum fillings of very poor quality. The salads came in a flimsy cardboard container that fell apart once you picked it up and the salad was 80% lettuce. The Glass House – Only visited this once and that was enough. Very poor selection of food available which was hidden behind glass counters, very poor quality and variety. The Islands – Busy self-service restaurant, only visited this for afternoon tea. Again very disappointed in the quality and variety of food offered here. Sandwiches made with thick sliced bread and minimum fillings. Selection of cakes (if you could call them cakes) was of very poor quality and the only hot choice on EVERY DAY was sausage roll! With the exception of the 47° restaurant the food on offer was of poor quality and cheap! Drinks It is an all-inclusive package so most drinks are included in the price. My only issues with this are: * Unless you pay an extra £50 bottled water is chargeable * When ordering drinks if you don’t specify the brand name of the alcohol you want you get served the cheap rubbish! * The bar staff were very thin on the ground and on occasions you had to wait some considerable time to get served. And the bar staff had trouble keeping a check of who was next to being served and on occasions just wandered off. * The cocktails were very disappointing, the bar staff simply threw them together so each time you had one they tasted different. Also the glasses were never decorated or accompanied with fruit that you would expect to be part of the cocktail experience – again very disappointing. Entertainment This was the most disappointing aspect of the cruise, with the exception of the Broadway Show Lounge. Elsewhere on the ship the entertainment was shabby, boring and a holiday camp could have provided a better standard. There were 3 grand pianos on board, one in the 47° restaurant, the Atrium and the Live Room. The only piano played was in the Live Room. So no background pianist during dinner or in the Atrium, despite the fact a pianist was on board. In fact on one occasion two of the entertainment staff were holding an evening dance class in the Atrium bar and the music came from a laptop placed ON TOP of the piano! It seems more common that the Atrium is used for entertainment when a pianist playing music or taking requests would have been more than sufficient and relaxing. On the last night the entertainment staff gave a farewell musical event in the Atrium bar, they were all casually dressed, un co-ordinated and singing to a backing track which was very amateurish, uninspiring and cheesy. The opera singer was superb but singing Time to Say Goodbye on the last night was a cringe-fest. On the day of departure many of us had late flights but had to vacate our cabins by 08.30. As a result passengers were sat in the Atrium and other bars killing time and milling around. During the whole day no entertainment was provided and the shops were shut. Passengers sat around as if they were in an airport departure lounge or doctors surgery, very disappointing. Clearly an example of key staff assigned other duties and a possible reflection of how understaffed the ship was. Excursions The excursions were more expensive than our last cruise and we only booked two as a result. The Athens excursion cost £65pp. We set off about 9am and were back on the ship by 1pm. During this time we spent just over an hour at the Acropolis, the rest of the time was spent on the bus with places of interest pointed out to us as we drove past. This was by no means value for money and I certainly would not recommend this excursion to anyone. Although our guide was excellent and well informed and her capabilities not a result if any input from Marella. The bicycle ride in Crete cost £36pp. On our last cruise we took a bicycle excursion in Ibiza which we thoroughly enjoyed. They are not cheap but as we enjoyed the bike ride we booked again in Crete expecting similar. I have to say that the staff in charge of the bike excursion were fantastic (Sophie & George) and I have no complaints about them, however I do feel disappointed with the excursion. My complaint centres the duration and time spent actually cycling. Within 20 minutes of starting we had a 45 minute stop in Heraklion, which was fine. We then cycled for approx. 30-40 mins to some obscure beach and spent about 11/2 hours there. We then headed back to the ship and arrived approx. 2pm. All in all very disappointing due to short duration and minimum time actually cycling! Summary Aspects of the cruise were enjoyable and met our expectations but it was crystal clear that TUI were trying to cut costs wherever possible, particularly the standard and quality of food offered, the entertainment and the number of staff. It’s tempting to say that it was a floating holiday camp when, with a little creative thought and small expense, it could be so much more than it was. It has certainly made us think twice about booking again with TUI. Read Less

We chose this cruise because our daughter and husband with the grand children had already booked and asked if we would come along. We would normally go outside school holidays. We generally enjoyed the holiday. All the staff in all departments were great and the guests easy to mix with. Food was good even though the breakfasts became a bit boring. Snack shack was excellent, especially the fish and chips. Small potions but it was a snack. The entertainment was okay. Guest entertainers were very good, but the theatre troupe were not the best singers. Bit tinny. Being All Inclusive concerned me initially, but nobody appeared drunk and everyone was friendly. Mind, the drinks did seem weak. Cocktails, weak or not, were excellent. Talking to other people on the cruise we found most had only ever sailed with Tui (Thomson) so they had no idea of the quality from other cruise companies. This was a back to back 2 x 7-day cruise. Never again. Change over day was awful. Many facilities closed, or times changed. Empty bars with no staff to serve you and on the evening of changeover no service at all until the Muster had been performed for the new guests. I complained at reception stating Princess Cruises would never do this. Only to be answered with, 'yes we are not as good as Princess'. We were informed of a captain’s 'party' for Tui past customers. They let us attend after I pointed out we were on a back to back cruise therefore the first week was a past cruise. Normally when you get on a cruise ship you expect a wow factor. Not the case with Discovery 2. The refurbishment, 18 months earlier, was, in my opinion cheap. Done at a price. I was in the building trade as a designer for 40 years. The LED colour change in the atrium was badly installed. The general lighting was fluorescent. Everyone uses LED now which tells me the refurb was done cheaply. But then again it is an old ship. We have been with Cunard, P & O, Carnival, Princess and Fred. All were higher quality than this. Only Fred had a worse room. Princess, Cunard and Carnival are not exclusive to Brits and therefore other nationalities demand higher standards. Other reviewers have said this was a cheap holiday. I don’t think £2700 each is cheap even in August. We have sailed with Princess for less, including all our drinks and excursions. The room was okay but looked 'tired'. No fridge? We have not been on any other cruise without a fridge. One great touch was the USB sockets for charging devices. Bedding was old, towels threadbare. No toiletries other than shower gel. Only plus was tea and coffee facilities. Ceiling tile hanging out of ceiling. Not fitted properly. An extra bed, if needed, pops out of the ceiling? Awful. Corridors to the rooms were drab. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had been on the Dream twice before and we were quite happy with it so we thought it a good prospect to go with the Dream again. Two people in our party of four needed assistance with walking any distance or standing for long periods especially through airport security or standing in queues. My wife (rods and screws in her back) and the other person in our party with a disability (Parkinsons) requested well in advance when the holiday was booked that some assistance would be needed at the airport for reasons mentioned. I won't go into details but in Aberdeen going out and in Corfu on arrival the assistance was not there with both people abandoned at the airport. On arrival back in Aberdeen we waited one hour at the carousel to collect our luggage. There were good points and not so good points about the trip as far as the cruise was concerned. Our cabin was on deck 5. We had booked a cabin with a window. It looked like areas of the cabin had not been dusted for weeks. The shower leaked at the spray head where the washer had perished and a poor attempt had been made with plumber's tape to fix it. The main shower head didn't spray properly and water went everywhere. I gave up and just strip washed instead. However our cabin steward was very friendly and helpful and tidied the room twice daily apart from the dust. Dirty towels were replaced every day with clean towels. There was dust in many areas of the ship which was not there on previous cruises. I only once saw a crewman with a spray and a duster whereas previously the ship was continually cleaned. The entertainment each evening was a bit of a let down since some of the male singers couldn't pitch their notes or keep their keys. The female singers and dancers were excellent but this only made the males appear to be tone deaf. On a happier note the four of us dined morning and evening in the Orion restaurant where the food was freshly cooked and served with great enthusiasm by the waiters. There was plenty of coffee or tea and cold water at any time of the day. My wife and I went on two excursions and the prices had gone up a bit from last year. However the excursions were very interesting and informative with excellent tour guides who knew their subject very well. Greek people are very welcoming and don't hassle you in the streets like the Turkish people do where every few yards there is a hawker who can't take no for an answer. WiFi in cafes are free but £50 per week on the ship. The shops in the ship are cheaper than the shops ashore - watch for special prices and bargains. We noticed some changes since last year. The crew all wore smart uniforms instead of the Bahama shirts as previously. There seemed to be less crew and they didn't sing or joke this year but went through a process but the joy seemed to have gone. We noticed that there were no more trays to carry your food to the table and the water glasses were a fraction of the size. At the end of the cruise the process of transfers went smoothly and the assistance was better to help the disabled onto the plane and also on return to Aberdeen. Would we go on Marella Dream again? No! Read Less

We booked Thomson due to previous experiences, but on arrival the room was filthy and very dusty, the windows throughout the entire ship needed cleaning. The bar service was awful, some were very slow and very rude, they need retraining. The restaurant service was very good, although the food in the main restaurant was awful. The chicken tasted like it was days old and the beef was too overcooked and looked and tasted like a cheap cut. The Lido restaurant was the best place to eat, although there was not as much choice as other Thomson Ships. The public toilets were also very unclean, smelly and not checked enough. The ports were excellent, although they should have put on shuttle busses in some ports as the walk to get into the nearest bar was approximately 2 miles away from the ship. Not on for people who find it hard to walk. The entertainment on the ship was excellent. The show team were at a west end standard. The entertainment hosts were very friendly and always very approachable. Embarkation was also very un organised and took too long to get through especially after a very long day travelling. Overall it seemed like they have neglected the other ships in favour of the newer ships. Read Less

Me & my husband have cruised on a few ships before, so were really looking forward to the Argean Meze on Thompson Dream. On the positive points- the crew and majority of the staff are in the main really pleasant. The food is relatively good with surfice vegetarian & other alternative diets available. We ate mostly in The Lido restaurant on deck 9 which is buffet style. We found the food to be hot, and nicely presented, different soups served each day- which were really tasty. Breakfasts & lunches were nice with lots of choices. We ate a couple of times in Mistral restaurant on deck10 but as this is near the pool area it can get crowded quickly and is noisy. There are 2 restaurants on ship that you pay a service charge of approx £20 that we didn't bother using. The negative points as follows: the ship is very tired and dated and in need of total refurbishment. Visible rust on balconies and an unpleasant drain smell from the toilets especially on deck 8. We had a balcony cabin on deck 8 ( we were informed when booking that there are only 10 of these onboard that had recently been refurbished) we have stayed in cabins and suites with balconies previously so was expecting certain standard. However cabin was very small and balconies have large gaps each side thus impacting on your privacy. The Clarins toiletries were the best thing about the cabin! The adult only area on deck 11 ( one of the reasons we chose this ship). Had been converted back to family area due to customer feedback- we were informed in the welcome pack when onboard- we think we should've been made aware of this prior to the holiday.. Decks 10 & 11 were very rowdy and kids were running everywhere- all the sun beds were always taken so we did not spend anytime up there. Entertainment was mediocre at times & not to the standard we've experienced on other ships. The excursions were good although would be much cheaper if you arranged them yourself. All in all an "OK" holiday but would not go on this ship again regardless of its destination. Read Less

Just been on the Thomson Dream and as frequent cruisers we were rather disappointed. The ship is going into dry dock for a re-fit and felt that we were a bit of a nuisance as the last guests. Our chalet lad was pretty useless. Normally they are amazing but we had to go to reception 4 times for one thing or another. One day we had no towels and had to use the pool towels but next day they were gone as well. Reception was very apologetic but nothing was done all day and we had to go back. Food was OK but not up to their usual standard. There was unusual smells on deck 7 and also in the dining room on the last day. Work had already started on empty cabins which we thought was a little unprofessional. The entertainment team were Ok but a bit below the usual standard but then we learnt that the normal team had already left and these were just stand ins. Still we had a good time and have been on the Dream many times so hopefully this was a one off. Read Less

Great itinerary for classical sites & ports of call. Nightly stage show was extremely entertaining despite many complaints we heard by many other travellers that there was little variety. Long queues at the buffets was a bit of a nuisance and the food on offer was pretty mediocre but the cruise was mostly spoiled by the freedom smokers enjoyed that contaminated many communal areas including the promenade deck. Those who choose to smoke should be isolated to an area whereby other travellers are not exposed to their unsocial habit. Smoke free areas were consequently congested. Outside cabin was roomy and the steward was hardworking and attentive but the bedding and towels were in need of replacement - all a bit grey due to age and over use. Admittedly the ship is more than 30 years old - perhaps it's time she were retired from the fleet. Not sure that I would travel with Thomson cruises again unless they tighten their smoking policy. We found the Thompson Dream to be a "mixed bag" Our cabin 5064 was adequate but on 2 occasions water came up from a drain in the bathroom to fill the bathroom floor to a level which completely covered my feet.when I reported the problem on both occasions we received no apology just a phone call 48 hrs later to check up.!!! The kettle had smoke pouring out one morning not from the plug but from inside the kettle. This did not set off any alarm but staff did come immediately I called for assistance. The kettle was replaced. On deck 9 on several days toilets were out of action or full to the top ugh... Most of the staff were smiling & helpful a few were not which is a shame one young man pushed past guests waiting to go into the Lido and let the door close in the face of a guest holding 2 cups of tea. The young group of entertainment staff were first class very professional and really worked hard to put on fantastic shows,The singing and dancing was amazing.Well done to each & everyone of them. We enjoyed the ports and our cruise but will not go on the Dream again. Mistrial Resturant excellent Hot Stones Resturant bad experience rude staff member spoilt our evening. Read Less

The destinations on this cruise were lovely 1 week around Greece and then Venice, Croatia and Montenegro they gave easy access to Athens, Ancient Olympia and much more. The service on board was very good and the food in the seated restaurant exceptional. The food in the cafeteria style restaurant was good too although there always seemed to be a queue ( albeit the queue wait being only a few minutes). The entertainment on this ship was excellent particularly the show we had previously seen a couple of them on the celebration last year but were good enough to watch again without any problem. The ship was clean as was our cabin we had paid for an upgrade to a porthole which we got and we were very pleased on entering the cabin we had the same upgrade as last year but we had a much bigger window this time and a bigger room so was very pleased on entering the room. However, that was the short-lived we had cabin 6216 and it was near the rear of the ship which seems to mean you have engine noise, and i think anchor noise in the evening at bedtime and when pulling into port first thing in the morning it was an awful alarm call no chance of any lay in. We were informed by seasoned cruise goers to always pay for a specific cabin in the middle of the ship. The noise was a vibration that shakes the whole room even the ceiling and instead of an upgrade was more like a downgrade and some kind of punishment. We have contacted customer service to ask for our upgrade money back but it takes 28 days to investigate so far we have only had an automated reply. We had a lovely holiday would recommend the cycle trips they were wonderful, the swimming pools on board were small but ample for the short time on the ship. Read Less
