the itineraries were amazing, lots of different places we have always wanted to go then there was a fire in the engine room transformer which was dealt with quickly but the repercussions were we had to sail at a reduced speed which meant three of our excursions were canceled with an extra two days at sea. The itineraries were the only reason we paid nearly six thousand pounds to spend twenty-four hours on an aeroplane to board the ship and the cruise experience was ruined. What made it worse was the paltry £250 each Tui told us we would receive without consultation and when everybody complained I overheard, with witnesses, the captain saying loudly he would be glad when all the moaners left his ship. True. The same captain who knew his ship had the same problem a year before and TUI still sent the ship out in the hope it wouldn`t happen again. They gambled and failed with the resultant ruination of our cruise. If I wanted to spend five days at sea I would have chosen a cheap and cheerful Med cruise. Tui In our opinion should never have sent that ship out without ensuring the transformer problem was addressed properly. They didn`t and will have to pay the consequences. Marella Discovery and two fires in twelve months is negligent in my opinion and would not go with TUI Marella again. The entertainment was average and the staff and waiters were mostly eastern Europeans who do not smile Unfortunately the Asian staff seemed to copy them and made for a depressing cruise. The captain was arrogant and the food not up to standard, proved by a notice in the self service restaurant which asked passengers to stop leaving so much waste on their plates! Shocking. Read Less

We wanted to visit Dubai. The ship. The crew. The food. The entertainment all very good. It he itinerary had Beeb changed about a week before departure and we were not notified.we would finish in Oman. Then on our penultimate day travel by free bus to Dubai. But due to medical emergencies the ship diverted , delaying our arrival in Oman by 24 hours. So we didn't get to see Dubai. Our first stop Aqaba ,we stayed for two days and after departure it was announced we had taken on security guards, we would picking up weapons at sea. Some decks and areas of ship were closed for safety against pirate attack. This was around the Gulf of Aden. We were 12 days at sea on this cruise. We departed with a 2.5 hour drive to Dubai Airport. The choice of restaurants is excellent. The food quality first class. Great choice of drinks on the fully inclusive. Cleanliness of cabin very good, obliging stewards. Cleanliness of ship very good. Entertainment, plenty of choices, for a lively time or places to just chill. We have been many times with Marella, they are our favourite cruise line. Because the service is excellent From Oman. Our holiday was booked from Manchester Airport even though Birmingham is our closest airport. The reason for this was, if we took the Manchester flight we gained an extra night in Dubai. We are disappointed this time with Marella as we should have been given the option to change our holiday. Read Less

Hi all , first of all I am not a good writer . Me and my wife booked a late deal with tui , we have never been on a cruise before ! But recently we have talked a lot about going on a short trip to test the waters as they say , we decided to book our holiday at Meadowhall shopping centre tui travel agent , luckily we had a very well informed sales woman who knew everything to know , she was fabulous , our holiday was booked for the 18 /10 /19 sailing on the marrella discovery , around the Mediterranean Our holiday day arrived , our flight was from Doncaster to Corfu where we boarded the stunning marrella discovery ship , ok she’s not massive or even brand new , but she is beautiful , once we had boarded ship we was shown to our inside cabin , our cabin was very clean , ample storage with many draws , sufficient hanging rails , clean bathroom with shower , nice firm comfortable bed with pristine clean ironed sheets , and nice bedside lighting , it’s not the most modern of cabin , but it was a pleasure to be in there , Moving on to the all inclusive package, The food is excellent in all the restaurants on the ship , and overall we thought restaurant 47 was the best for dinner , but if you like a good slap up English breakfast restaurant islands to front was buffet style which me and my wife preferred because English breakfast isn’t meant to be perfectly placed on your plate.? As it was in 47 ? , the drinks also have a huge variety of all the top brands either at the bar or there’s waiters everywhere near the bar areas taking orders Entertainment All the entertainment thrown at you day and night was for all age groups in numerous places scattered around the ship , never a dull moment , the acts was very professional , The days outings All the ports of calls that the ship stopped off at in many different countries was a good choice of diversity All in all it takes a lot for me to Wright something as long as above , but I needed to express how much of a fabulous holiday tui holiday gave me and my wife , thanks for reading Read Less

Sadly where do I start . We had booked a deluxe cabin and to our shock we saw no deluxe at all, the windows were that bad we could hardly see out of them. The shower was that small with a shower curtain, not deluxe to me. No toiletries apart from a small soap and shower cream canister. we enjoy going to the restaurant , only the first night was the best after that we were rushed every night and the food was not always hot and the plates cold. The staff were rushing around and the tables way to close to one another and the staff were not always attentive. In the end we tried the buffet lounge which I have to say the food was much better and the plates piping hot. Entertainment was awful it was a comedian and then entertainment team no professional dancers. Service in bars were very relaxed , there seemed to be a lack of staff. Found out later that this was coming to end of season and some were going home. We had diesel fumes which circulated around the ship even in our room on deck 8. Later the captain explained there were complaints about diesel fumes , explanation from the captain something about doing something to the tanks to put in an eu directive on fuel. Seems rather strange to do this while there were passengers on board. I had to cancel a trip due to the fumes making me ill because I ahave asthma . This cruise was a very disappointment overall. If it was coming to end of season that should not have made any difference we still payed for our holiday which our ruby anniversary was spoiled all together. Would I go back on this ship no, it was more like a Butlins camp . I would love to hear from other people affected by the fumes. Read Less

We wanted to visit Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro that is why we chose this cruise. We were over the moon with the ship, it is stunning, the entertainment is outstanding, I would have paid to see these shows. The food, every member of staff were simply outstanding. We paid the extra £50.00 to upgrade our all inclusive package and we felt it well worth it. Excellent quality cocktails, top grade spirits and cans of soft drink and bottles of water delivered to our room. We upgraded to a larger cabin on 7th floor but did not have a balcony or window but we did not miss this we used our room to get ready and sleep. There is so much going on around the ship from Morning to very late night I cannot wait to book again. We booked trips in Slovenia - caves and castles our only disappointment was we would have liked an hour or two longer We booked Krka waterfalls trip in Split - just simply breathtaking beauty again I wish we had longer We booked speedboat and beach trip in Montenegro- this was just amazing, the views spectacular. Then we had a walk around the town of kotor, this is also very beautiful and sells the most delicious pizza and ice cream In Venice and Dubrovnik we did our own thing, due to very high temperatures we only stayed in Venice until 1 pm, but we have visited Venice for a holiday. In Dubrovnik we shared a taxi into old town with another cruiser. We chose open side bus tour at €20 each and boat trip at €10 each. This was a great way to see Dubrovnik, due to temperatures of 37 we didn't do the wall walk, but will return to Dubrovnik to do this. Do not miss sail away from Venice Happy to answer any questions Read Less

First cruise so have nothing to gauge it on but found it wonderful. Nightmare start with over a 5 hour delay but as soon as we got to Corfu airport at 2:30am staff were great getting us on coaches then embarkation just as good even though flight had delayed ship we were swiftly put on ship so could sail asap. All the staff were very attentive and Julio our cabin steward was so nice and helpful. Only ate in the buffet restaurant once for breakfast and for lunch after visiting Split but otherwise ate in Gallery 47 for breakfast and the Italian upstairs is lovely. Also ate in Surf and Turf and Kora La as well as the glass House well worth the extra payment for all. We were worried that we would felt a little trapped on the ship but not at all plenty to do and all the excursions we did through TUI were well organised. Cabin number 3568 was great able to unpack everything just and no noise only issue same as others was the shower curtain, but hey if that’s all you can complain about not bad. We did a cruise and stay and the only disappointment was coming off the ship no one telling us where to collect coaches and people setting off and dragging suitcases towards the terminal until stopped. We choose this cruise for the itinerary and dates we are available to travel. The cruise sailed from Muscat, taking in a short visit to Salalah, Oman, then up to Jordan for 3 days/2 nights in Aqaba, for Petra, the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum, then through the Suez Canal, around to Israel, Ashdod, for Jerusalem and Bethlehem, then over to Kefalonia and finally disembarking in Corfu. Unfortunately, after booking we discovered there would be no time to go ashore in Muscat, as we sailed early the following morning, and soon after booking we were advised that the Dead Sea trip from Aqaba was cancelled due to road conditions. We were disappointed but understand these things happen, so added an excursion to a 5 star hotel in Aqaba for a beach day instead. We had a great flight out in Premium on the Dreamliner, Muscat airport was easy and we were onboard quickly. The whole process smooth and efficient. We had an aft cabin, pre-booked and it was spacious, clean, comfortable, but I have to say on occasion noisy from the engine's, vibration was bad some nights, and yes, you do get a little soot on the balcony, there's nothing you can do about that, just don't wear white! The steward cleaned it daily. I'm not complaining, just pointing it out. The ship was full I think. Hard to get a sun bed. Or a seat in the atrium. Nowhere really for some peace and quiet, we were glad of our large balcony. Bar 11 was lovely for evening cocktails, we preffered the buffet for evening meals as we found the MDR very busy, squashed together and brightly lit, and actually didn't rate the meals there apart from breakfast and Beef Wellington. The surf and turf was excellent, you need to book as soon as you can! The excursions were a bit manic. They were long days in high temperatures which we were prepared for, but felt really rushed, the guides all knowledgeable and friendly, but a little inflexible. We were awed by some of the places we visited, but just didn't have time to appreciate them. Destination Services on board were rude and unhelpful, and you had the feeling they didn't care once they'd got your money! Many people complained about various issues on various trips, but I don't think there's been any resolution. If you can, book privately or go it alone. There was a mix of entertainment, both day and night, a great comedian, opera singer, guy with a guitar, we didn't do the shows but heard they were good, just not our thing. Most of the staff are fabulous, friendly, helpful, with one or two exceptions. The food was good and varied and mostly hot (except strangely chilled poached eggs in the MDR on the last morning for breakfast!!) As I said we preferred the buffet, snack shack was great for lunch, glass house for snacks in the evening. Plenty of choice of drinks on the standard AI, though we paid extra for a fancy cocktail or coffee occasionally. Overall though, we felt extremely lucky to be able to do this cruise, visit the places we went to (we will go back independently), enjoyed our sea days with a book and a view of the wake, dolphins, stars, and our adventures on shore. The ship was still having the occasional engine/electrical problems, so we lost some time in ports too. Read Less

We chose this Cruise as it was out of our comfort zone and was for our Golden Wedding. We had a fantastic holiday The Ship was very good, bit tired in places but in general very nice. Main problem encountered was the vibration running through the ship when sailing, which suggests an in balance in the drive mechanism, especially when trying to sleep. Staff were the best we have encountered, food very good in all Depts and entertainment generally very good Flights too long for us especially on the return which was 6 hours late. The trips we did were very good and informative The ports were primarily working ports which was a bit off putting, possibly down to cost. Overall a fabulous holiday which we will never forget. We had a problem with dirty water in our first cabin but this was quickly remedied by a move to another cabin John and Pat Caulkin Read Less

Have reviewed Disco before and we love it, so will concentrate on ports and trips. It’s fair to say that in some of the Ports a DIY job is not really an option as they’re as big as a city. In other places the ports are a minimum of 2 1/2 to 3hrs away so it’s a long day. We like half-day trips so a bit restricted, but most were very good. Compared to a recent cruise to Norway where everything was very expensive, we thought these trips were reasonable. We reckon the grub to be good but not great. We did Islands buffet for brek and most lunches or the Snack Shack where the wings, fish and chips are excellent and hot. Stays open until 6pm so if you’re late lunchers like us it’s great. One slight knock in most areas is that the grub could be a bit hotter. We liked 47 for dinner and eat quite late, after 8.30pm.You do get a buzzer but it’s a chance for a few bubbles pre-dins. We tried the Steak on Stone for an £11.95 surcharge. Well worth it-best dinner of trip. As others have said, if you want a sunbed on sea days you need to be up with the early breakfast cooks, about 5am. We normally waited until it thinned out a bit later. No-one gives up their beds. They run a ‘yellow card’ system for beds left for more than 2 hrs but it’s just for show. Drinks great. Longest wait a few mins. Good bottled beers, Peroni, Corona, San Miguel. **I refuse to pay for wi-fi so there’s very limited internet access. Even on the day trips there was hardly any ‘free time’ so you had to try find wi-fi wherever you could. Langkawi Nature Reserve: Excellent. Half day. About 30min journey. You go into bat cave then boat journey to watch eagles feeding from the river which is amazing. Penang: Temple followed by funicular ride to top of island. Really good. At top you can have a buggy ride around the area for a couple a quid. Very good. ***Hotel at top of hill has wi-if you can access. KL: Half day sights. Petronas Tower excellent and Independence Square and War Memorial good. Visit to disused colonial railway station a bit bizarre and an obvious ‘filler’ Bangkok: did trip ‘On your own’. Be warned, it’s 3 hrs in traffic to get there and you get 4 hrs there. And you’re dropped at a Shopping Mall outside the city. Our excellent guide recommended the Skytrain (about £3 for an all day tourist ticket) to the river, a river taxi (also about £3)then a Tuk Tuk back which was about a fiver. Had a great day. Went to Reclining Buddha which wife loved. Some guides apparently discourage being too adventurous due to time constraints but we really enjoyed it and had no problems getting back. Pattaya Beach: Coach Trip ‘On your own’. Cancelled Bangkok on own for day 2 as couldn’t face the journey and getting up in middle of night-or so it seems. Taken to shopping mall then on your own. Not really a daytime place but still enjoyable. Lots of British men talking to young people in sea front bars which is a bit weird but glad we went. Singapore: half day ‘In the footsteps of Raffles’. Best trip of the hol. Only four hrs but we got half hour walk tour, 30 mins boat ride, Singapore Sling in the Raffles Hotel (no queueing as part of trip-on your own be ready to queue for about 45 mins) then a ride on a tri-bike with a recognised firm so safe and reliable. Excellent. Sihanoukville, Cambodia: Did our own thing. An eye-opener. Quite a few scare stories re valuables and the like but didn’t hear any horror stories. There will be beggars and Tuk-Tuk overload but it’s not overwhelming. Went to the beach with another couple we met, Tuk Tuk for about 20 mins which was $20 dollars US and he wouldn’t haggle. Whole place is a building site. Vietnam: Ship is 3hrs from Ho Chi Minh so any trip is a schlep. We did Cu Chi tunnels which I really enjoyed but it was a bit of a one-trick pony. Still worthwhile. Malacca: half day sightseeing. Bit dull. Highlight was going up viewing tower and a castle. We did all those trips and they’re great, but they’re usually early kick-offs. We did four on the spin and I couldn’t wait to get back for my bottle of Peroni. We’d do the itinerary again. Loved it. **Depending on flight time, you can keep cabin past the 8am kick-out.Ours was £35 right up to 3pm departure for Gatwick and worth every penny as you weren’t fighting for space as everyone waits to get off. Apparently, 80% of people paying keep their own cabin. Read Less

Should of known what was coming when the manager of the store at the forte Birmingham gave us incorrect information regarding parking and checking in. From parking the car at the port following a twenty minute queue it took exactly 3 hours to board the ship. Totally unprepared for check in with 8 stations open and the card registration crashing constantly. The ship itself as a previous Royal Carribean ship was OK The staff were uninterested and personally witnessed what I believe was 5he staff helping themselves to wine from the islands cafe and transferring into implements at the waiters station. The shows in the broadway lounge were pathetic and the one act they brought in which was a magic/comedian act made ourselves and a large number of people walkout as it was worst than you would see in a working mans club. For the first three days I was bombarded with staff trying to upgrade my all inclusive package to a premium package, this was indicative of the cruise with regard to trying you to spend more and mor3 money on nothing more than crap. I have cruised many times before and this is by far the worst overall experience I have experienced. This is no mor3 than a poor performance of Haven on the seas. Don’t waste your money. Read Less

This was our first cruise. We never considered a cruise before but the deal for 8 nights to the Norwegian Fjords was an offer we couldn’t refuse. My husband couldn’t believe going to notoriously expensive Norway could be achieved at such good value yet it is all inclusive ie: cabin, all food, all drinks/alcohol, entertainment, tips etc We were not impressed by the embarkation which was a shambles. Ten check in desks for over 1800 guests caused a long wait for everyone. However, once on board everything was great for the deal we had booked. The whole ship was kept spotlessly clean and tidy, the staff were fantastic providing a friendly, effecient and professional service. Our inside cabin was small but had ample storage, a hairdryer, coffee/tea facilities, a tv, the en-suite was a bit like a caravan with shower curtain rather than screen but we coped ok, our cabin was cleaned by Pande who did a great job. The food in several different eateries was great with plenty of variety. We normally had breakfast and lunch at Islands buffet restaurant and enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal each evening at 47 which in any other restaurant along with alcohol, coffee etc would have probably cost a minimum of £75. Service was exemplary. Special mention to Paul Col the main chef and Ajay his assistant, for the wonderful food, the quality astounded us considering there were so many covers. Special mention for waiters Trajche from Mexico and Manuel from Honduras who provided great service. There were two shows each evening in the beautiful Art Deco styled thie: singing, dancing, costumes and was often better than many shows we’ve seen elsewhere provided by a young, energetic and enthusiastic team. In other areas there was live music. Special mention to the band B12 and fantastic solo saxophonist Vernal. There are other areas on the ship ie the inside pool (food and drink served there too, served with a smile by Stanislavsky), Outside pool where there are different functions, nightly films shown, BBQ, live music. Table tennis tables are provided. There are quiz’s and dancing classes during the day. A climbing wall. The deck has walking circuit which many people used. It sounds busy but we always found a quiet area to read etc. There were plenty of bars available where alcolhol/drinks were served freely. The sailing was done over night, the ship docked at a different easily accessible destination each day. The destinations all had a different feel to them. We had no regrets visiting Norway, it’s a beautiful, clean country. We didn’t book any excursions as we found them expensive. We researched ahead of time (often using trip advisor) and did some DIY excursions. The Flam railway was wonderful. We got off ship early, there was a short walk to railway station, booked the next train which left 1/2 hour later, the train wasn’t as busy as those on the excursion trips. Needless to say sailing through the Fjords before docking in the morning or leaving a destination late afternoon/early evening were spectacular, stunning, unspoilt and truly beautiful. We particularly enjoyed from the front of the ship the sun setting one evening If another deal came our way particularly to an expensive destination, we would definitely consider Marella Cruises again and would not hesitate to recommend them. AMAZING DISCOVERY . More then a Ten . Just back from our 2nd Norwegian Fjords cruise in 2 months on board the Marella Discovery. The first cruise was so enjoyable we booked the 2nd 2 days after we came back home and the 2nd week was even better and a lot of the staff remembered us as soon as they saw us which was so nice . We also learnt how to dance under the patient guidance of the fabulous professional dance couple ( Amy and Roland) The staff were fantastic from the cleaner to the Captain and all have the same work etchic of wanting you to have the best holiday and service they can give. So freindly but so profresisonal also . Anyone wanting to find fault would have to work hard it was SO EASY to have an amazing time. nothing is to much trouble,, we even heard hat on one of the recent cruise the bad weather had menat the had to replan the cruise itenery at the drop of the hat , how amazing service is that . Ok to give the break down of each aspect of what our cruise offered ENTERTAINMENT . Always something going on to watch or do . First class evening shows , good variety and the performers are so talented and put so much energy and enthusiasm into each peforrmance . They have two fantastc bands and also have Solo peformances by a magical saxophonist, guitarist and pianist also excellent and well rotated . There were also plays for adults and children, quizes, bingo , game shows and other activiies such as tours, tournaments movies and health talks. And not forgetting our favourite , daily dance lessons ‘passion for dance’ in the afternoon and also the evening althuogh on board with a lot of people you could find quiet areas for most of the daytime and therre are adult only areas . The evening does get more of a party atmophere but you do get the full range from classical music to pop and ballroom to disco . On sail out days they often had some musical event making the scenery of the Fjords even more awesome . one night they had a live musical duo (Braximusic ) ther singing was superb and made for a magical experience. All the enertament staff are visible and approcahable and are happy to engage with you FOOD and DRINK . All great quality and service . The restatarants (47 and 47 Gallery) was our favourite when we had the time and every meal was superb and service incredible . One one day the restaurant was supposed to be closed for lunch as was a port day but the weather was so wwt in the morning so not many people went to shore as expected so they opened it up , this showed to usthey go the extra mile by giving up what was a few hours off for the chefs/waiters. Island buffet had a great chioce and open most the daytime as with any ship the buffet does get busy. for snacks you can also go to the Snak shack and the Glass House .The all inclusive drinks litss is amazingly varied. even loads of mocktails if you prefer not to have alchol. The waiters are everywhere(even in the theatre) and very effecient at getting you order wthout you having to go to the bar . Before we cruised we were little anxious that an al inclusive meant a booze cruse mentality but all in all most people on the ship did;over indulge so the atmosphere was just 'happy' ROOMS AND HOSPITALITY. THe whole ship could not be cleaner and if there is a problem you report they fix it very promptly . Cabins vary in size depending on what you pay but the service is the same you know your cabin crew. beds are comfy and good storage space /plugs etc Tv is limited depending upon were you are so they show films etc EXCURSIONS. for the more poplular /limited spaces it is best to book before your cruise . but you do find they are sometimes more choice There is a destination desk open each day On the first day at sea they do a run down of all avavailble in the main theatre but ff you dont go the recording of it is shown on the onship tv channels . Each excursions we went on was on time ,had agreat local guide and was as desribed. Had good stops for photos.toilets etc Some ports you can just walk off find a tourist info and book your own activity if you prefer. One day we had to tender to shore and again very smooth operation and was running continuously from 9 - 5. It’s hard to find anything to be negative but if we were pushed to find anythig it would be the embarkation process could be better at the car park , if the weather is wet you would get very wet standing in a long queue to drop off your cases. Thsi may be the port rsther than marella as it is organised once you get to the terminal building as you get a numbered ticket and there are lots of seats and facilties whilst you wait . and most the boarding crew are from the cruise crew so yo get met them from the start. Wil definitely be looking at another cruise on this ship again in he near future Read Less

Spent to whole days at sea before we arrived in Iceland. Always wanted to visit Iceland and more of Norway. Was not disappointed with any of it. Our cabin was really good and so clean. Thanks must go to our Cabin Boys, they were superb and really friendly. Our cabin was checked twice every day and our bed turned down each night with 2 chocolates and our news letter for following day. Sometime they made an animal out of towels for us. 1st one was a Turtle, then a dog and an elephant. Last one was great, a money hanging on a coat hanger. Rally appreciated all they did for us. The corridors leading from the cabins to the bar areas was spotless. Even the decks were very clean and well kept. The bar waiters were great when you wanted a coffee/tea or any kind of drink and were always very curteous. Dining room 47 deg was excellent and thanks must go to Jade, Ann and Agnel who are excellent waiters and cannot do enough for you and they are such good fun even when we played a trick on them, they took it all in their stride. If you go on this cruise you must try to occupy tables 126 or thereabouts and you will meet them for yourselves. We would give them 12 out of 10 as expert waiters. The staff when booking in for a meal were also excellent if you wished to have a table for two you got one. If you were willing to share that was also okay with them and they couldn't be more helpful. From the Captain down all the staff were so friendly, helpful and pleasant to meet. The shows were excellent and the entertainers work so hard it is unbelievable and they are very energetic and have lovely singing voices. Would recommend that you take in a show or two. Last but not least from Captain Chris Dodds and his Officers and Reception and shop staff they were all excellent and Captain Chris I am glad to see did get up to dance on our last night at sea. Well done Chris and thank you and all of your staff for a wonderful holiday. Read Less

I thought you may like some feedback on our recent cruise in June 2018 to the Midnight Sun on TUI new ship Marella Discovery. We have been cruising with Thompson’s (TUI) since 2004 and have booked in excess of ten cruise trips with TUI. This is our second cruise with TUI in 2018. The ship is beautiful, with excellent recreation facilities, entertainment and lounge and bar service. In general, the facilities, bar and lounge staff were excellent. The two main areas that we were not too pleased with was the supervision and service provided in the Gallery 47 Restaurant and Island Restaurant. Maitr'd seldom visible did not help out. We eventually moved away from these facilities of the Gallery 47 and Island Restaurants and used the excellent facilities and food at the Black Rock Grill, Glass House, which was well supervised by Mr Anthony Tapiador, the Head Waiter and his most pleasant staff. I would recommend this excellent facility for your meals. Look forward to our next cruise. Read Less

Major problem on this cruise. Hot water pipes in my cabin ceiling broke and doused my whole cabin in scalding water. It destroyed all the furniture and all my possessions. The water escapes into the corridor entering other cabins and wetting the floors. Everyone was moved to new cabins. Wonderful. Then everyone compensated with £300. Wonderful. Unfortunately everything we had on the cruise was destroyed. ALL of our clothes suitcases and personal stuff. I’m told now, five weeks later that it is TUI company policy to give £300 compensation and nothing more. IT IS DISGRACEFUL that I receive the same as someone with wet shoes, when I have lost everything. Even our passports were destroyed. Unfortunately my insurance is insufficient to cover all that was lost and so I believe TUI should make up the difference at least? I have rated our experience below without taking into consideration the cabin disaster for Read Less

This was our first cruise and we were a bit worried what to expect. However we had an amazing time, From embarkation with the welcome and the organisation at Gatwick airport we thought it was excellent. The ship was immaculate, we had upgraded to a suite on deck 8 which was fab and we had a lovely girl looking after us every day cleaning our room, ironed clothes for us and had chocolates on our bed every night. The staff work so hard cleaning the ship, in the restaurants and entertainment, I could not fault it, we we really impressed. The all inclusive option is really good for all the drink and food options. There was plenty of entertainment and shore excursions if you wanted it, we tended to do our own thing when we went ashore, with water taxis, trips etc. One trip they sold in port on St lucia I thought was expensive for being left 2 hours at a beach with not much to do and a quick stop at marigot bay, and they only had a bit of cheap rum punch to give you. I would not recommend this trip ( this was nothing to do with Tui it was one we did independently) It was a great experience going in and out of port, leaving port in the evening with a glass of prosecco and the sun going down is perfect and exciting waiting to see where you are off to next. Grenada was lovely but a bit pushy when you got into port selling tours. Bonaire was a lovely island and probably the best for snorkelling. Overall would recommend the cruise, we also did the 7 day stay in Barbados at the Waves hotel which was amazing to top off the holiday again a beautiful hotel and would recommend Read Less

We chose this cruise for our honeymoon and were not disappointed. The ship was well appointed and in good condition throughout. Everywhere was immaculate and the cleaning was very thorough. We had a balcony cabin in deck 6. Not massive but adequate with plenty of storage and hanging space. The bathroom was compact like most are and functional. The cabin was well soundproof and the air con worked well. The cabin attendant was excellent. The ship was run very efficiently from arrival to departure. The service from staff was exemplary and friendly. Formal when required and relaxed as well. There was a range of passengers on board. Your hard core pensioner cruisers who enjoy a ballroom waltz to chavvy Wetherspoons regulars just interested in when the pool bar opens. This didnt seem to be a problem as there were dining options bars and entertainment suitable for most. As the saying goes birds of a feather flock together. The main restaurant No 47 was lovely. It was nice that you weren't dictated to sh are tables or strict dining times. The pay off however is be prepared to wait for a table at peak time. Not a problem for us as they give you a pager and we enjoyed a drink in the bar for a short while. The food was lovely. Being from a hotel and catering background i could not fault any of the catering on board. The surf and turf restaurant was fully booked so didn't eat there but the Asian Kora la restaurant was excellent as was the Italian gallery 47, the glass house tapas and the snack snack on pool deck . Island restaurant was typical self service fayre. At times the pool bar was stretched but the wait was ok. There was plenty of waiting staff on pool deck and all the bars providing table service of you didn't want to go to the bar. The entertainment was ok. I guess it's always subjective and would never appeal to everyone but I would say they had a good attempt at providing good variety. We didnt choose to go on the ships excursions but did our own thing in each port. Maps available for each port. Destinations on tropical delights trip were good and I think there was adequate time at each destination. Overall no complaints. Good value duty free ship too. Read Less

This Cruise was chosen by friends who have been on many cruises. We have never been on one so to us it was a whole new experience. From start to finish the experience was brilliant. The highlights were the Restaurant 47 and the other speciality Restaurants. The meals in these are just out of this world and where supplements were paid it was worth every single penny. At 47 we sat at Table 124 numerous times with the Worlds Best Waiter Baskaran. He was out standing and made us come back to the same table 8 times. Fault-less. The Entertainment and the Entertainment staff were so professional that it was hard to believe we were on a cruise ship All in all the only Complaint was after paying so much for terrific Cruise to be asked to PAY for wifi in the 21st Century was truly a joke, if you want money for wifi ask us to pay with the rest of the holiday not after…. First of all let me apologise because the only other cruise line we have had a suite in was NCL, so if i keep making comparisons with NCL then forgive me. Firstly the flight out with TUI on their Dreamliner flight from Manchester to Barbados was superb. We traveled in premium section. On arrival at the airport luggage was tagged at the cruise desk and then we didn't see it again after the bag drop until it arrived in our suite about 2 hours after after we boarded. It included Fast Track security and the Swissport Aspire lounge. Unfortunately this was packed as they had booked too many people in. Not a nice experience and we left pretty quickly. Flight left 10 minutes late. Crew were brilliant and I cannot praise TUI enough. If you can afford it pay the extra for Premium Class. Food and drink all high quality. Definitely up with scheduled carrier Business class on day flights. Arrived Barbados on time, straight into buses, quick 40 minute drive to the cruise port and was checked in within 10 minutes flat and on ship in 15. So slick and well done. We had the Discovery Suite 8500 which was massive. And I mean massive. Separate bedroom with own door onto balcony. Huge bed, separate tv from main room. In the lounge part, another big tv, a piano, sofas. a bed made up for our friend. Bar area with water and coffee maker. This is where NCL scores big time. Water and drinks with them in the suite all included and as many coffee pods as you need or desire. Butler service as well as suite steward. Although steward and assistant nice enough we hardly ever saw them. Coffee pods limited to one a day. No treats in the afternoon (e.g NCL), no welcoming bottle of wine (eg NCL). I know you say why not travel with NCL but we thought would try Marella out. Apart from the large suite there were no real perks to being in a suite. Everybody on board gets treated the same. All the speciality restaurants bar the Surf n Turf on the last night had already been booked by the back to back passengers. Food: Buffet was excellent and has improved since the ship was owned by RCCL. Great choice of items at all meals especially breakfast. No real queues and always got seats easily. Tried main restaurant once on deck 4 but a bit bottom end and there was an issue with some food intolerance that they got badly wrong. However Galleries 47 on deck 5 (the italian choice) absolutely brilliant and we eat there most nights. Try and get head waiter Georgio and his best team with Aden . Fantastic service, friendly and they went the extra mile. Great food and wine. Surf n turf was excellent (pay extra). The steak was awesome and the choices of wine sublime. Absolutely must go there once if you can for that special meal. Others First day did a wine tasting event in the afternoon. The sommelier from Ukraine is so good. She really knows her subject and we tasted 5 different wines with some nibbles. No question went unanswered. Came up with a perfect Shiraz. OMG. For £7 a session a must do. Claudia the social hostess deserves a mention and some. She arranged our renewal of vows on the bridge which included a meal with the captain, champagne, flowers etc. She is indeed a perfect hostess and nothing was too much trouble. The captain is a great guy, originally from Poland. He loves Only Fools & Horses and Monty Python so if you see him try out the odd quote! Full of humour and so professional. He does 2 months on then swaps with his opposite number. Staff are this ship's shiniest star and always willing to please. We had an issue with one but it was quickly sorted. Reception staff normally eager to please and go the extra mile. The original casino on the ship has been reduced to a small corner in the Live Lounge and was not worth visiting. I was shocked by what Marella had done. Might as well do away with it altogether. No serious gambler would use it. Best bar is top of the ship , ultimate in cocktails. Deck 11 has to be visited for this. Try the smoked cocktails, awesome. Return flight delayed 3 hours departure so we had to stay on the ship for longer. Oh dear how terrible never mind lol. If you are going to get delayed best be somewhere great like Discovery to while away the hours. Only 2 and half hours late back in Manchester. All in all a good cruise including Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Grenada and St Lucia. Captain runs a great ship Read Less

I chose this cruise ship because of previous reviews, this was our first cruise and did not want the formality of dressing up all the time, and all tips included, and the all inclusive option was perfect for us. The crew are very relaxed and friendly, nothing is too much trouble, they work extremely hard. The restaurant are fantastic there is food for everyone, spoilt for choice. I would chose Marella cruises again, if I was to change anything I would book a outside cabin, just personal preference as it was so dark. Overall the facilities and entertainment on board is fantastic something for every if you want to stay on the ship when docked or explore the amazing island, the destination team are very knowledgeable, I would definitely recommend swimming with sting rays in Antigua amazing, the wardens are extremely helpful and put you at ease. Paradise Islands cruise - St Marteen and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, St Kitts, Antiqua, St Vincent and Barbados. The ship was amazing. It still has the smell of fresh carpets. It is immaculately clean. Hand sanitisers all over too. We were surprised at the number of staff on-board - there is someone to tend to your every need. Getting off the ship and finding something to do is really easy, there are local buses in all of the ports and the islands are easy to see with some imagination - you do not need to take the ships excursions if you do not want to. Try getting hold of the lonely planet for the Caribbean if you want to do more than slob around on deck boozing or explore the port towns. The ship looks like a ship, not a floating hotel. It has a class and elegance that the enormous ships we were parked next to at some ports simply lack. Lovely atmosphere on board! Lovely outdoor decks. So All Inclusive - well we were expecting really basic British buffet boring food - what a surprise though. The two full service sit down restaurants were amazing on reflection. The choice and menus changed, the staff were amazing and the menus really different. Just like a modern bistros really. We were delighted with the quality too. There were a couple of slightly strange dishes, but on the whole we enjoyed everything - we are not fussy and love cooking and eating out. And the waiters were brilliant with fast, keen, attentive service. People forget that these guys are mass catering, and they likely pick up produce once a week in Barbados - so we didn't expect too much, but honestly it was great. The wine (especially the Merlot and Pinot) were perfect. Breakfast specials better than the full English! All inc drinks - branded spirits, lovely cocktails, Corona beer, cava and prosecco - we really did not feel the need to upgrade to the premium package, but if you want to have something nicer its a small supplement of £2.50. Perfect. Bottled water was £1.40 (sparking or still) but there were water stations around the ship to fill up bottles. Better for the environment. Perfect for us, and we bought water locally in supermarkets on the shore too to bring back on board. St Marteen and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands - these are fab islands. You can see through the devastation of Hurricane Irma, you can chat to the locals about their experiences and sympathise with their losses. The Island folk loved having us there and saw that Marella were ethical and responsible in coming back soon. Some folk on board really need to understand that our being there mattered. Biggest problem for us - Some of the other Brits. They love to moan, groan and winge. The cruise was not expensive compared to others, it was most certainly all inc and we were looked after from the moment we checked in at Manchester airport - mollycoddled all the way and home again- you did not have to use your brain once on-board (apart from the quiz!). The level of organisation is remarkable. For example, our bags were checked in at Manchester, and when we landed we boarded a coach straight to the ship from the apron. We did not even clear passport control or immigration. Our bags were by our cabins an hour or so later! Dreamliner flights both ways. Full service long haul airline, bang on time. Perfect. Staff on the boat - Ill say it again, brilliant. Entertainment - varied. if you are bored read a book or chat to someone! We loved the bar on Deck 11 in the eve - so chic! We had a lovely time! Thank you to everyone on board. Read Less

Had a great time on the discovery.outside cabin deck 2 looked after by the superb supandy served it's purpose for us.only thing missing was a fridge.the safe in our room was operated by swiping a credit/debit card.i took an expired card (after reading review)and all was well.we dined most nights sharing tables in the mdr.we met some great people and had some fab meals.we had one bad experience.one of our party went to reception a head waitress was called who took notes and promised to put things right.next night we were met by Micheal head waiter? Who treated us like royalty and was very proud when we said how well his team had done.we did the buffet on a couple of occasions we went later around 8 pm.was quiet and food good.we had breakfast in the buffet every morning if you went later it could be very busy and difficult to find seating.we tended to be there around 8 am once again no probs and good food.we loved the snack shack idea it was always first stop when back onboard for fish n chips or cheeseburger.no problem with the drinks package we tended to stick to the larger just had odd cocktail and Bailey's.the service could be slow if the bars full. don't bother queuing grab a waiter. I'd even go looking for them cheers bojan and ilisha (spelt wrong).marella changed the itenary replacing peurto Rico and us virgin islands for Antigua and Tobago we received or etsa money back with additional £50 each.we loved antigua so no problems.last thing the dress code. jeans and smart shorts could be worn in the MDR with shorts or polos and on the dress to impress night I donned the tuxedo with approx 60% of the guys.would gladly do it all again maybe will next year ha ha. This was our honeymoon and something neither of us had ever done but due to people in general who had lots of experience cruising we went for it and unfortunately we were very disappointed. We had deluxe cabin 7640, which was at the back of the ship lovely balcony. On arrival there was a very strong smell of sewerage this was reported and after and hour we were told that the cabin had been re cleaned. On return it still smelt terrible so again we informed them that it wasn't the room but the drains in bathroom. After 4 hours waiting they eventually cleared blockages. However this happened another 3 times on the whole deck through the week, Not what you expect on a cruise that cost short of 4k !! The all Inc package is ridiculous, you can get spirits / wines / beers and some cocktails but if you want a bottle of water or a can of pop you have either pay more or go Premium, not what we were told or expected after what the cost was for this holiday. Rip off penny pinching seems to be their goal. The entertainment as said by other guests was no better that one would expect at Butlins. Bingo ! Trivia quiz / Music Quiz the only decent entertainment was in the Broadway lounge and was only a 45 min show, but at least it was professionally done. The Islands visited were beautiful with the exception of British Virgin Islands, why oh why the ship went here is beyond me and many other guests, Still in a bad state of repair nothing to do beaches closed shops not open and rubble, cars and containers all smashed up at the side of the road. This was a Paradise Island tour but this Islands current situation needs time to heal before the tourist are brought back. This was a holiday not an Aid tour and TUI are very wrong to take people here yet. No other cruise ships were docking here, so our take was it was too expensive for TUI to change the Itinary !! The food isn't what we expected, nothing special and certainly not what we had been informed on cruise ships. We must of been the first to go on a cruise without gaining weight ! As said we are new to cruises, others on ship who had done many in past with other companies did tell us that this was by far one of their worst experiences, from service / choices / entertainment / quality of food and the add ons you don't expect or are told about until you get on ship. One couple had to see the Ships Doctor it cost them £30 jst for the consultation. Not good for a British ship as if at sea and you need medical help another money grabbing exercise !! The best part of cruising is a different location each day bit again don't buy excursions from the ship, get them locally and save ££s, its the same trips ! We wont plan to cruise again and if we do again speaking to others from other ships we docked alongside P&O / Disney amongst others seemed to have all happening that we expected but didn't get. TUI need to change this penny pinching culture if All Inc. then make it all Inc. not upgraded options charge up front so you know what you are getting. If no one upgraded there wouldn't be one so they would have no choice. I thought that ALL meant ALL not a part of !! Not happy and after only 1 cruise experience not planning another !! Read Less

Holiday Review Ship: Discovery Dates: 10th December - 24th December 2017 Travelling: 2 Couples, 1st Couple Ages - 36 & 38 2nd Couple Ages 70 (Partially Sighted) & 74 (mobility issues). All first time Cruisers, but well practiced normally long-haul globe trotters. 1st Couple: Premium flights & Junior Suite 2nd Couple: Extra Legroom seats & Inside cabin deck 8 Flights from Gatwick for both couples with assistance booked in advance for 2nd Couple & pre-booked lounge access. At Gatwick:- Parking booked with ACE Parking meet & greet, excellent service very easy drop-off at the short stay carpark north terminal & incredibly fast pick-up at 6am on Christmas Day from the short stay car park north terminal. Car was exactly the same as when we dropped it off & service from both the Driver & call centre/office was efficient & professional. Total Cost £68.85 for 15 days parking. Airport Lounge: No. 1 Gatwick, access included with Premium flights for Couple 1, Couple 2 access pre-bought @ £55 for 2 pax. Breakfast was simple but just what we needed bacon rolls & an omelette with self-service hot drinks, fruit, pastries & yogurt. Also available were free news papers & Wifi. Seating was plentiful & comfortable. Reception staff were smilie & very helpful even at 6am where as the waitress at the bar was miserable and looked like she was forced into work that day at gun point. Outgoing Flight: Premium seats were well worth the money as always & I personally would not fly with TUI long haul any other way, they recline well whilst giving the people in seats behind you space to move. Couple 2 were very happy with the extra leg-room seats but next time will prefer to go Premium for the extra seat pitch as well as leg room. Cabins: Junior Suite 8574:- We are so glad we paid extra for a Junior suite, we’ll worth paying for. We Pros:- The cabin was spacious, very clean and kept very well by our cabin steward & his assistant. They were always smiling, polite & professional. They replenished the Clarins toiletries when needed & kept us well stocked with water. They also made sure we used the best value laundry service when we filled in the wrong form. Mattress was a little on the firm side but we slept really well every night. We had issues with the Aircon unit not turning on properly when we 1st checked in, however it was sorted the same day and worked really well for the rest of our stay. Bathroom was spacious with a shower & bath. Loads of storage space. Sockets were US & European with the TV having a USB Port that was very easy to connect a games console up to. Cons:- We were under the Gym weight room and at 8am most days people would be in the gym dropping weights onto the floor & waking us up with the noise this would continue on & off throughout the morning, day & evening during gym opening times. It was tolerable for us as we’ve lived in flats in London for most of our lives so very used to continuous noise others however may find the noise very off putting. I would also steer clear of Cabin 8578 as this cabin is under where the treadmills were in the gym & the noise here was so much worse & much harder to ignore. Travel Tip:- Take the following, a Door Hanging Organiser https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01IQJLAEG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , a Europe &/or US Travel Adaptor extension cord https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005DRD87W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and a games console I recommend an Nintendo SNES Classic Mini console as the games are preloaded onto the console, it's really small & light, fits perfectly in the Hand Luggage. Inside Cabin 8549:- Before the cruise my parents said that paying extra for a balcony or window would be a complete waste of money as they didn’t intend on spending any time in their room. Pros:- Cabin Stewards were absolutely brilliant with my parents. When my Dad took seriously ill on board while my husband & I were off ship they really helped my Mum out by trying to find us on ship & generally looked out for them and always made sure they wanted for nothing in their room. Cons:- The room was really small, much smaller then we were expecting, they wished they had booked a Junior Suite too as they struggled to get out of bed as there was no room between the bed & either wall. Travel Tip:- If you have pre-exsisting health issues getting adequate Travel insurance is paramount. If my parents hadn’t they would of had a huge medical bill from the on-board medical centre. Which by the way was top-notch, they stopped my Dad slipping into a diabetic coma & he was able to enjoy the rest of his holiday after only 1 days bed rest. The medical staff are 1st rate. Ship:- The ship was lovely, not 5 star hotel quality but really great value for money. It was a hotel I’d say it was an excellent 3 star. The staff were brilliant, it was clean & easy to get round. I suffer with travel sickness regularly and I was never seasick. My parents loved all the bars and preferred dining in Islands (The 9th Deck buffet restaurant) over all the other restaurants. The food was always hot, plentiful and great choice our only negative was the lack of “local” food. It would of been great to have a small selection of food from the Island we’d stopped at that day. Gallery 47, Food was alright we only ate there once as choice was quite limited, we only had to wait 5 mins for a table. 47, Again the food was nice breakfast was the same as what was normally available in Islands but with table service. We only waited 10mins for a table. We only ate here once. Kora La, extra charge restaurant. The food here was awful, I would avoid as it’s a complete waste of time. Surf & Turf, extra charge restaurant. Steaks were beautifully done well worth the extra charge. Spa Services:- Not a lot of choice of facial treatments if you don’t need anti ageing treatments. massages were excellent, Manicure & pedicure’s both Shellac & normal were brilliant and well done. Hairdresser’s were clueless if you have anything other then European or Asian hair. I’m mixed race so my hair is in-between European & African, its also quite long. I went in for just a wash & blow-dry. The hairdresser took about 2 hours to do this and my experience was awful, I was hit in the head with the blow-dryer, my scalp was repeatedly burnt, my hair was yanked about then ripped out of velcro rollers every after I said my hair was too fine for them. My head stung for days. So if you don’t have European or Asian hair I would avoid the hairdressers as they are not honest enough to say they can’t do all hair types. Excursions:- For me the standout was the horse riding in Antigua for £60, My husband really enjoyed the Sun & Rum tour in Grenada for £36. My parents really enjoyed the Train tour in St. Lucia. Our overall favourite Island was Grenada but I felt most at home in Guadeloupe. We had a fabulous time and we are all now converts to cruising, so glad we took the plunge after avoiding it for years. Now looking at 2019 Asian Itineraries. Read Less
