I wanted a smaller ship as I was travelling on my own. Having read previous reviews, most of which were positive, I decided to book it. The whole of the holiday was perfect from start to finish. I had a single cabin (1023) which was roomy and clean with modern decor. Plenty of drawers and wardrobe space. The entertainment, food, service and cleanliness of the ship was faultless. Comments with regard to ship being old are certainly true but it did not deter from the holiday itself. All the bars, dining rooms and communal areas were modern and tastefully decorated. I have travelled many times on several cruise lines in the past and I can honestly say, that I was not disappointed in any of the experiences on the Marella Dream. I would like to say a special thank you to the member of staff that certainly made my holiday memorable. A young 24 year old - Calum James Smith - with the title of social host. He was wonderful with shall I say the elderly ladies of the ship. Thank you for a lovely, relaxing holiday. Read Less

Did not know what to expect on this our first cruise as we had read so many varied reviews, but we could not fault our cruise experience, we booked a large balcony cabin and it was perfect, we had our own sun lounger, table with 2 chairs and a hammock! It was ideal to get away from the hustle and bustle of the pool deck areas and really chill out. Okay the Marella explorer is not brand new and not as huge as some of the other cruise ships but for us it as just right. The main self service dinning room served a good range of hot and cold dishes which changed daily, and if you wanted a full English breakfast you'd have to go a long way to beat it, we also tried out the specialty restaurants, some you had to pay a cover charge for, but well worth it, and the all inclusive drinks package was the best we ever had, all the top and well known beers and spirits. We can't praise all the staff on-board enough, from the cleaners to the ships Captain, nothing was too much. Plenty of hand sanitisers' everywhere, entertainment and activities were suited to all age groups and were well organised, The only thing I would do differently next time would be to book shore excursions on-board the ship, yes they are more expensive than doing it yourself but it saves the hassle of being pestered by the hoards as you walk out of the port area into local towns, overall we had a fantastic first cruise experience and certainly do it all over again, especially on the Marella Explorer. We are fairly recent cruisers and wanted a winter sun break and booked this cruise in January on line. The weather was superb and we were told by the crew the best they have had for several years. We flew from East Midlands to Tenerife and arrangements at departure, on arrival, coaching to Santa Cruz and boarding Marella Dream went like clockwork. The ship is old but is modern in appearance with good quality furnishings and the staff very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble from our room steward to the bar and restaurant staff. Corridors and lift space are a little narrow and not as spacious as more modern ships. The variety of lounges and drinking and dining options were first class as was the food and drinks. We like to be on our own for dinner and for six nights we were served by Jennifer and April who looked after us very well. The Marella Dream Show team and their shows in the Broadway Show Lounge were excellent. Some very good singers and dancers however the comedian Alan Wilkins material was older than us and we are in our 70's. The resident band were again very good with such a wide range of music on offer. Our only disappointment was the lack of space for sunbathing when we had such good weather. We were birthed in walking distance of six of the places we visited which is brilliant. There were lots of excursions and trips arranged which people we spoke to enjoyed. Leaving the cruise was also faultless, colour coded luggage and well organised. Our only disappointment was East Midlands Border Control on the return. It took about 30 minutes to process us which is not acceptable. A superb restful and enjoyable cruise. Thank you TUI. Read Less

We have only been on three previous cruises, all on small ships with quite personal service so this one at 1,500 passengers was big for us ! Our ports of call in the Canaries and Madeira were all fascinating, we thought that the excursions were overpriced and after finding that the handouts from the ship were not very helpful or accurate we headed for the tourist information offices at the places we visited. There was good information about the ports on-line but we used on-shore wi-fi and roaming Vodafone after a message that we would be charged £2.88 per minute for all calls, texts, and data on "Vodafone Marine" ! Our cabin, 1004, was quite good with a settee and table as well as TV and tea and coffee facilities and a good size window, a bit obscured by lifeboat access equipment. We had a problem with the safe which two visits from crew could not sort out, Dennis, an officer from reception was the second to try, we were pleased that the safe locked itself and refused to open until he put his override code in twice. He confirmed to us that it was faulty. I made a third visit to reception to complain and they refunded my money but were unable to provide a replacement safe for us or alternative safe storage for our valuables, apparently there is no safe at reception ! Our only option was to find a hiding place in the cabin. Please note there is no forseeable solution to this problem as replacement safes are apparently not available ! On our fifth day I was up early with diarrhoea and vomiting, I called reception as required and was visited by a doctor and nurse. They confirmed from my symptoms that it was not viral and therefore probably something that I had eaten so I could either stay in the cabin on immodium for 24 hours or visit the ships hospital for treatment which would see me well again in a couple of hours, I opted for the latter and had extensive blood tests and intravenous drugs, the treatment worked and I called back in the evening to check that all my obs. were normal. Excellent service but a tad dear at £1,400 plus ! Interesting to note that the previous day had been a "sea day" so it was most probably something that I had eaten on the ship. We unfortunately missed Lanzarote on my sick day. On the positive side, the crew were polite and helpful to a man ( or person I suppose I should say). The highlight of the cruise was the entertainment team, they worked non stop and were really professional and talented. The food was all pretty good ranging from canteen type buffets in various locations, made to order pancakes, omelettes and pizzas, a proper sit down restaurant with good service and "pay extra" speciality restaurants. We were on a full board but not " all inclusive " basis so we paid for the "wine package" which at about £14 per bottle compared to UK restaurant prices. Drinks at the bar were similar to pub prices. We enjoyed a lot of the cruise but there were things that let it down, there was no hot water on one evening and for the hour before the captains reception the whole ship was without any running water, the Captain did apologise and excused the smelly guests ! I registered all my complaints on-board and filled in the questionnaire on our return but there has been no offer of apology or compensation, in fact no response at all ! Read Less

This was my 3rd cruise , I have always cruised on much bigger ships and I have to say that my first impressions were that the ship was very small and a little dated. But this didn't stop me from having a fantastic holiday . Because the ship was smaller the staff seemed more friendly and seem.to remember you and what drinks you wanted . The captain often made am appearance unlike on the bigger ships we never saw him once . I would like to mention that the staff in the Horizon Bar really made our holiday special, it was like having all your friends on board with you the staff that really went an extra mile for us were ,Roger ,Gecyl,Shaym,Ni Made, Eric and Luius, nothing was too.much trouble and they were always smiling , i work with the public and i know only too well how hard it is working with the piblic , they are a credit to your company I only wish that more of my staff were like these. We had an amazing holiday and didn't want to leave I hope one day to cruise again on this ship . Read Less

SAIL THE THREE SEAS the itinerary that called me to sail on the Marella Celebration, reviewed separately. For me it all started with a 45 mile drive down the A1 at silly o’clock for the 06:50 Boeing 737 from Donny (DSA) to Dubrovnic (DBV) and a half hour coach transfer along the stunning Dalmatian coast. I must at this point thank all the other reviewers who said SIT ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE COACH. As the port cam into sight Cele was dwarfed by the MSC Lirica and Aida Blu The sail away form Dubrovnic was accompanied by music form the outrageously talented MUSIK UNLIMITED for a day at sea down to Celebrations flag port of Valetta, Malta I was pre-booked one both Malta Highlights tour which was a little disappointing due to quite heavy rain. Seabourn Odissey in Port Day 4, Messiina Sicily and the trip of the day was the Godfather Villages for me and I bought an umbrella opposite the world famous Bar Vitelli a today it was torrential. Day 5, Argostoli, Kefalonia, no trip today I decided to have a port day and just mooch around I caught the Red Train for a tour of the city. Weather was overcast but warm and more importantly DRY Day 6, Ingoumenitsa, Greece a glorious day and trip 3 to Necromantia and Parga in. My opinion we would have been better going straight to the picturesque Parga and having more time to explore and enjoy Day 7 up at 5 o’clock for the sail into Kotor in Montenegro - well I say five o’clock my iPhone had not changed the time from Greek so up at four it was then and failed to see the German U-boat pens, breakfast and off on the full day tout Highlights of Montenegro the highlight of which was transiting the road known as the 25 serpents. What a stunning country Day 8 wake up and we are back in Dubrovnik The ret of the time aboard being taken up eating, drinking and watching the excellent productions put on by the show team, I must say my favourite was the Broadway Shows extravaganza the finale being from Les Miserable and the last time I had seen it sung was by the Barricade boys, all of whom have sung the part in the West End, The Marella show team rendition was certainly equal to that Read Less

Joined cruise in Corfu. Sailed to Kotor Slovenia next day. Very nice place. Didn't take a tour. Just had a wander around. Sailed to Venice overnight. Enjoyed very much although it was still busy when we arrived on 16th Sept. I don't think it would be bearable in July August. We paid £54 each for a gondola tour but found out later that a gondola trip was 80 euros for 6 people. Sailed to Split overnight. Again we had a wander around. Very nice. Sailed to Dubrovnick overnight. Got off ship and took a tour with local guide 20 euros each. Taken on panoramic tour up the mountain. 4 Stops and then back to the ship. Fantastic. Sailed to Kotor Montenegro overnight. This is the most spectacular. Like a Norwegian Fjord without the greenery. There is a medieval town next to the dock. This is a must see. Overall I would say that the cruise was good value for money. Some of the shows are very good. The Chaplin show was exceptional. The crew and reps were also very good. The food was also ok. Unless you are very fussy. We used self service mostly and went to Italian restaurant Twice. Same food but you had to wait. You can also top up in the self service as the portions are small I've read on other reviews that the bar service is bad. My thoughts on this are that overall it was ok. Although ther is no queuing system and unless the barperson is on the ball you can get frustrated. Read Less

Last minute booking was a little dubious as had sailed with TUI before and was disappointed with the state of the ship (celebration)old and shabby looking.. I needn't have worried as Marella Explorer is stunning launched in May 2018 it is jam packed with all the things you would expect and much much more, beautiful public areas, cabins and large pool area, first class entertainment, show lounge is more like West end theatre and shows are breath taking, nice adult only deck to escape the lively pool area if needed, plenty of choice of food which was amazing. Had last meal at Kora Li Asian infusion restaurant, paid extra but so worth it, food, presentation and service were excellent. All the staff were verý friendly, welcoming and helpful, amazing cruise, amazing ship, would highly recommended. Fantastic value for money. Would definitely book with Marella again. My only criticism would be the high prices in the on board Champneys spa. Read Less

I have always enjoyed Thomsons cruises and wanted to have a Wedding Blessingfor my 15th annivesary onboard. This was an ideal opportunity to see if Marella cruises were as good as Thomsons. Pleased to say every bit as good. Yes she is an old ship but so much nicer than the floating resorts of other cruise lines. A lovely ship with a wrap round promenade deck, two good sized pools and great restaurants. Excellent food choices, varied menus and great service. I had booked three cabins, one outside plus, one single and one disabled. A minor problem in the cabin was resolved immediately. All cabins were spotless, mine had a bath with two powerful showers over. There was plenty of wardrobe space and tea and coffee facilities in the cabin. A stable ship, I never felt any movement even in rough weather. Captain Richard, Juliana and Lara helped to.make my Blessing very special and I was treated as a VIP all week. Staff in all areas very helpful and polite. The entertainment team work very hard, the CanCan was superb However, I wish the singers would not shout. They wear head mike so don't need to shout. I loved my holiday. Read Less

I chose this cruise for several reasons. 1. Itinerary, following the Adriatic coast I felt it would be more likely to be a smooth sail and the sea would be calm. ( I am not a good sailor). 2. The stop ports were places I hadn't been to before. This was my first time on a cruise and I traveled as a single woman. I arrived after an early morning flight. The check in was easy, quick photograph taken and given card for boarding in a flash. Everything was so organised and I felt that continued throughout the cruise and included departure at the end. The dining was fabulous, especially the main restaurants, with waiter service for breakfast lunch and dinner. Food was really good and well presented, menu changed every day. Italian on upper level fabulous too. Given a pager at busy times, so just went for a drink until table ready. Sharing a table meant that it was quicker to get a table and a great way to meet new people and chat. Didn't manage the A la Carte restaurants as they were booked up very quickly. The buffet restaurant has lots of choices but can be very busy, only went in there for breakfast and also lunch on first arrival but enjoyed it. I attended a singles meeting on the second day organised by the crew hostess. Lovely new friends made, and in particular one friend, that enabled us to do things together including trips ashore and evenings at different entertainment spots. So much to do and still didn't manage all the entertainment on board. My cabin had a window and a lovely comfy double bed, loved it, and a really good steward, who looked after me and my room. So much to say I could go on and on. The singing from the entertainers was superb. The places and excursions are amazing. I had 3 nights after the cruise at a hotel in Corfu, because as much as I loved it, It can be very tiring and hard on the joints. It was wonderful way to end an incredible holiday. The ship is gorgeous! Read Less

The cruise got off to a bit of an inauspicious start when for whatever reason there was a big delay in dropping our bags off outside the port terminal before checking in, almost an hour queued to drop the bag off. After that checking in was fine, usual process of waiting in the port terminal until your number was called. The boat was lovely, looked great. It was my first time on Discovery and it didn't disappoint. Well laid out, lots of seated areas. The Broadway show lounge was spacious and had plenty of leg room. The food in the main dining room got progressively better as the cruise went on, it started off not too great but there were some cracking dishes over the course of the two weeks. The menu was varied enough to keep me happy each meal time, I preferred the main dining room to the buffet as I found that a bit too cramped and busy. The staff on reception and destination services were attentive and quickly dealt with any queries I had. Bar 11 was a fantastic quiet spot during sea days to sit and read a book, however it didn't serve drinks until 5pm although it was easy enough to go to Deck 9 and take one back up. I found there was enough on during the sea days to keep me occupied and the evening entertainment, for the most part, was great although there were a couple of shows which missed the mark. I had booked a solo outside cabin which was spacious and had a large window that let in plenty of light. There was plenty of storage space between the wardrobe and drawers. Tea and coffee were always well stocked by the room staff. Only downside in the room was that the bed was a double bed with two single mattresses put together and they often moved apart during the night and I'd wake up finding myself sleeping in a bit of a dip! I went on an excursion through the ship at every port as being a solo traveller I wasn't confident enough to wander around the towns without a) getting lost b) being late, and c) knowing what I was looking at. Most of the excursions were as described however a couple of them were a bit misleading (Carslberg brewery tour is of a museum of the old brewery rather than the new one) and we missed seeing a couple of things in St Petersburg which was disappointing. Overall though I really enjoyed the tours. However there were some negatives. -The service was incredibly slow at times, I think they had taken on new staff who were being trained up. One evening a table of 5 of us waited 50 minutes until our starters arrived (fortunately the company at the table was good!) -The main pool was out of action for 13 of the 14 days which is incredibly inexcusable. -The boat had engine trouble which meant we had to leave Gothenburg early and arrived in Tallinn late so we had less time than originally planned in Tallinn. -Every morning at 8am there was incredibly loud clattering above the room. I never found out what it was but some of us think it's possibly crew moving deckchairs. I'd recommend a cabin a bit further down toward the middle of the boat. -One of the main atrium lifts broke leaving only one lift that went up to Bar 11 on the top deck, so if you wanted or needed to use it there was often a long wait. Overall it was a good cruise with a couple of disappointments. It wouldn't put me off cruising with Marella again but has made me a little apprehensive. Read Less

To be positive. Single cabin very clean. Medium sized bed. It also seemed to be good value for money for a single cabin (prior to boarding). No tips. Good and friendly cabin "porters". Negatives. Cabin decor dismal. Small. TV poor. Low deck. Bad noise and awful vibration from the engines; especially in port. This vibration affected the whole ship but because these single cabins are lower in the decks affect was much worse. I can only describe it like sitting on a washing machine. I was told (by customer service) this should have been pointed out at the time of sale - it was not! In fact, it was sold as a single cabin with external porthole e.g. outside. Reception/Customer Service was dreadful. I offered to pay for upgrade (of course this would have depended on value) given the manner of vibration I said I would sleep in the lounge if I wasn't given a change of cabin. Despite offers to review this I was effectively ignored and even when given deadlines for resolution none were forthcoming after 24 hours and I had to chase. Was told that rooms were full. Fortunately, the vibration was not as violent when the ship sailed and I did get more accustomed to it; but not good enough. I asked to speak to the reception manager and the staff effectively blocked this. I am sure the manager had told staff not to put complaints through to her. Ineffective manager. Probably afraid of dealing with complaints and, thus, pushes these to her staff. One central american girl was very good and tried her best but the rest ineffective. As a single traveller, I rely on the activities to meet other people. On other cruises, there have been choirs, dancing, crafts and daily single meets. Fantastic holidays for single people. On this cruise there were none (one line dancing class; one singles meeting in front of reception and I was the only one who turned up. Nobody asked me why I was sat there alone by reception staff so I left). Most of the activities were expensive tours; and mainly sitting on a coach. I did go on one horse riding tour in Menorca which was fantastic. I do not enjoy evening cabarets and tend to relax in my cabin in the evenings; what a joy given the ambience etc. of the cabin as described. The weather was not good enough to sit on deck so I was in my room from 7/8 each evening. The cycling tours appeared a good option. I am not a good cyclist which I discussed with the tour leader e.g. which was the best tour for an inexperienced cyclist not good with hills. Recommendation was Valencia tour. He asked if I could balance on a bike; which I can. On the day, he "assessed" my cycling ability (in front of the other cyclists) and as I could not use the gears properly he said I was not good enough and must return the bike to ship (with money refunded). I lost two hours that morning and the opportunity for other tours. I spent the day walking to Valencia and back; alone as I had no other plans and needed the exercise. When I suggested to him that he needed another assessment method his response was he could only do that by seeing people ride; and that 15 mile ride should have been indicative. I am fit and regularly walk 12 miles +. What about simply saying that only experienced cyclists can go! I enjoyed seeing the different ports and wide variety of food (although it was not hot and vegetables under-cooked for me), I did see cabins on other, higher decks, which were perfectly acceptable (although I know these would be more expensive). They had a seating area, for example. Check in and check out was great. Flights were extremely delayed but one in flight very good. The holiday overall could have been much better. Having a decent cabin would have gone a long way towards the other weaknesses. I could only class this as a budget cruise compared to other cruises. To be fair the price was less than my other cruises given that all cruises sting singles for high supplements. . As it was, I was glad to get home! I had seen other reviews about these issues but chose to ignore them because it had been recommended to me. Read Less

For context, we are Princess people and have also cruised with P and O and NCL. Chose this cruise due to itinerary, date and regional flight. Knew it would not be as special as Princess and so it turned out but was very enjoyable and decent value for money. The flights, transfers and embarkation/disembarkation arrangements were excellent. Things that were better: size of cabin and bathroom, drinks prices, included tips. Things that were worse: bar service was a bit offhand, slow and they did not know how to serve certain drinks; food in the main restaurant was nothing special (we did try Kora La, the Asian restaurant which was very good); felt crowded on the day at sea. The worst comparison however was the "entertainment" - the theatre shows had excellent dancing but terrible singing and the two bands playing in the lounges were just dire and far far too loud. A grand piano sat untouched in Tides while the pianist was stuck in a closed room and the "party band" could be heard above him! The quizzes were badly presented and indeed all the entertainment staff seemed too young and far from interested. Two really bad things that I will be taking up with the company - I have never been as ripped off as paying £15 for the use of the safe and far more importantly the safety briefing commenced 2 minutes after we boarded while people were still finding their cabins and no effort was made to ensure everyone attended; worth mentioning that the medical questonnaires were dumped in a heap on a table and not counted or presumably checked. We also greatly missed the central atrium as there was literally nowhere quiet to chat in the evenings. In summary, a decent week away but not one I would consider suitable for any kind of "big trip"/special occasion. Read Less

I could hardly express how great it was! It really exceeded my expectations. We were on the Caribbean Gems cruise. Indeed, the ship is old but does not ruin anything. The maintainenace is excellent, everything is cleaned every day and every hour. We were in a cabin on deck one and it was quite rocky especially during the first night (it was the day at sea) but we got used to it quickly. The cabin was not very spacious but there was enough place for all our stuff. We were a little disappointed that we bed was not double and we had to sleep on separate beds. We had a window and could watch the waves crashing on the ship, it was fascinating. Our cabin steward was great, he cleaned the acbin twice a day and arranged the towels in the shape of animals :) The dining was perfect. Most of the dishes in Lido restaurant (the buffet) were not something really special but there was a great variety and the food was always available, fresh and warm. Mistal's restaurant provided excelent cuisine and service. The lobster and the beef were so delicious. Kora La was not as special as we expected - you could skip it. The entertainment was superb. There was something for everyone - live performances, singing, dancing, theathe, trivia, karaoke and so on. For me, the funniest moments were when the staff themselves were part of the show - they amused us a lot and you can tell that they enjoyed themselves. Speaking of the staff - they are thoroughly amazing and make you feel fantastic. Now that the cruise ended, I miss the ship, I miss the sea, I miss the staff, everything. this is definitely the worst part... Don't worry about getting seasick. I have problems when travelling by car and I often have nausea but I did not feel bad during the cruise. It is just as if you are a little drunk and cannot keep balance ;) The shore excursions were amazing too, especially Seven Sisters in Grenada and Swimming with stingrays in Antigua. The organization of embarkation, excursions and everything was punctual and smooth. All in all - it is soooooo good, do not hesitate to do it! Read Less

Where do I even begin, This year I was fortunate enough to experience the best holiday imaginable. I booked my holiday through TUI for a two week carirbean cruise on the Marella Discovery 2. This was my first ever cruise and the price and itenary were incredible. The whole holiday was seemless from booking, to flying to arriving to resort to embark the ship. TUI and Marella staff were always on hand to help. We were greeted with the smiliest faces at Montego Bay where we were checked in and directed to board the Cruise. That night we were instructed and reassured on all safety procedures and given a guided tour of the cruiseship to find our bearings whilst our suitcases were delivered to our cabins. Everynight we recieved an entertainment planner for the days entertainment and events as well as an update on the days port, local information, weather for the day, currencys used and things to do. The cruise was all inclusive and having stayed in many 5* all inclusive hotels around the world the food and drink on the cruise may as well have been 10*. The variety, standard, presentaion and flavour were fantastic. There were many retsuarants to use and the only problem i faced was trying not too eat too much or picking where to eat. The staff on the cruise were the best team of staff i have ever come accross on my holidays. Everyone was so warm and friendly and really helped to personalise your holiday and go out of their way to make it special. In the mornings you would have a wake up announcement from Captain Chris and the Cruise Director Martyn who would start you day off with a lovely update on the weather outside, the port, when you could get off the cruise and overall a lovely start to the day. When you go on shore there are so many different things to see and do to experience the fantastic culture and sights. We always booked out excurions through TUI on the cruise and everything we did added value to our holiiday experience and was unique and great for getting out of the country what we wanted to see, do and experience. We never faced any issues with our cabin and never struggled for size. The cabin was cleaned twice a day and two sets of towels also. We were always left chocolates at night and the cleaners were lovely, always said hello when passing in the corridors. TV channels were fab, plenty of films and programmes to choose from and we loved that there were Marella channels to keep you posted with excursions. We always tried to tune into Cruise Director TV to find out whats been on and whats upcoming chilst on board. The pool on the cruise was a great size and perfect way to cool off on a hot carribean day. There was never any issues with sunbeds as there was deck 9 and deck 10 to lay out on. The entertainment team will keep you entertained with poolside games and quizzes as well as laying back to onboard bands and and talented voices to sing poolside. Waiter service aorund the pool was an added bonus as you didnt even have to move to get a drink. The entertainments show team, actor hosts and family hosts really made our holiday. They were all so friendly and always smiling and laughing. The level of enterainment on the Cruise is one of the most professional, talanted and sought after I have ever seen. The entertainment lounge and gameshows venue were always full and you could see from just looking around all of the guests were constantly happy and enjoying as much as us. A big shout out to the whole team and we really hope we get to see you on furture cruises. Your an assest to Marella and TUI and the way you interact and are constanly around your guests socialising and entertaining is incredible. we dont have children but even seeing the childcare team around the pool helping with quizzes and interacting around the cruise was also amazing to see. All of the staff want to inteact with the guests and really go out of their way to make their holiday. The cruise also has a jogging track, a virtual reality room, casino, climbing wall, minigolf, outdoor cinema, nighclub, shops and full spa just to name a few extras. I would 100% recommend a cruise on the Marella Discovery 2 for the best holiday you can ask for. Read Less

We choose this cruise as it was value for money (i.e. affordable!) - particularly for single cabins, and we were not disappointed overall. For those people looking for the cruise experience and luxury, this isn't the cruise for them. We treated this as a hotel that that parked in a different place every day, and were happy with the experience. First, the good bits - definitely the friendly staff, who were always so willing to help. The food was fine overall (particularly afternoon tea and those mini sausage rolls), the all-inclusive package offered us more than enough choice (particularly if you like cocktails, which I do), and the ship itself is clean and comfy. Our fellow passengers were friendly and helpful, and we hardly noticed the children on-board because they were so well behaved. Embarkation was smooth and fast, and the excursions were generally well organised with none of the waiting around to be called that we have previously experienced. On the downside, our cabins on deck 2 at the back were a bit noisy - but other noise was minimal and we were not disturbed overall. One of our 3 cabins had a smell at the beginning, but this was sorted - the annoying creaking noise was never identified!. The food was a bit variable - we always found something nice to eat in the Lido as there was a good choice but the food in the Meridian wasn't always what we expected although we enjoyed dining in the Meridian - the overall experience was nice. Potatoes were almost always a disappointment (roasties are meant to be crisp!). I didn't attend the evening entertainment - those that did were disappointed in the first week, but really enjoyed the second week. Excursions - mostly very good, and well organised. The only poor trip was the one around St Martin - poor guide, and 30 minutes spent in a boring, overpriced ice-cream shop Food - for those that need it, sugar free, GF and vegetarian options are offered as standard, and vegan diets are catered for on request Read Less

Been cruising with Thomson since 1998 1st ship Thomson Topaz. Been on the Thomson Dream 5 times (Used to be "Costa Europia") Was on it for 2 weeks in October in the Adriatic. Great 2 weeks no problems. was on the liner with my 91 year old sister-in-law 5th January for 2 weeks, in single cabins Deck 5 and deck 9 (Right next to the Gym) We knew there was problems aboard with the Nora virus so we was careful not to frequent crowded areas. After 5 or 6 days my Sister in law became ill and was confined to her cabin. After 8 or 9 days the same thing happened to me. We had been given injections and 1 500 mg paracetamol and let out after 2-3 days with no instructions, no medication and the doctor even asked me to use my own paracetamols. We left the ship to pass the germs on our flight home. He both still have the illness (25.1.18.) and are seeing our doctors 29.1.18. The waiter service at The Orion was excellent, a bit slow at times but that was due to more passengers using, instead of the caferteria. We did not use the activity due to our age, but passengers appeared to be enjoying it. The service all over was ecellent, except Reception with the staff being overwelmed with customers. The cabin staff I would say are the best on the ship as always. When locked away in the cabin, I had no eatable food at all. Entertainment was exactly the same when we were on this same liner in October 2017 Read Less

The only good thing about this cruise was the single cabin - food available without having to pay was extremely poor choice and quality - entertainment was terrible unless you were drunk which many on ship were due to all inclusive package - I have sailed on many cruise lines but first time with Thompson or Marella as it is called now and never again !!! Complete waste of money and a Christmas ruined !! The hotel after cruise made up for the terrible cruise but then extremely bad check in experience and late flight - replacement airline and no information given by Thompson then they have lost my luggage made this a holiday from hell when I was looking forward so much for a relaxing and enjoyable christmas and new year holiday - should have stayed home and saved myself over three thousand pounds !! Shall never use Thompson or Marella again Read Less

This was my first time as a solo passenger so that's why I picked the 5 night and am so glad I did I found the ship to be very tired with not much happening for a solo passenger. I usually cruise with P&O and will definitely go back to them. I was in cabin 5211and although it was quite spacious it was very noisy, the shower room had an unpleasant odour and only one socket worked so had to boil the kettle and change to charge anything else. The food was ok nothing special the only redeeming thing was the staff were very pleasant, would I go with Marella again that would be a definite no there was no ship map in the cabin which would be very handy as the signs around the ship only told you what was on that deck but not direction you should be heading. This was my second cruise with Thomson, first the Dream 5 years ago and I took some persuading to go on this and I really did not want to leave the ship! Got to the ship at about 11.30am, embarkation was smooth and easy going. Ship compared to the Dream is amazing, we had chosen out aft cabin before we left and were not at all disappointed with this, having our 17 year old son with us there was more than enough room for us all. Bags emptied and put away and nothing left lying. Lots of little cubby holes to stash everything. Nice touch of the Clarins toiletries in the bathroom, kettle and coffee machine also. Sooooooooooooo much to eat and drink, we did not pay the extra to visit the two paying eateries as there was lots of choice. Drinks..........to much. lol There was always something going on whether it be a quiz, or film under the stars, in the show lounge or live music. There was a climbing wall, putting, an escape room, childrens clubs, swimming pools, hot tubs. The ports we stopped off at were really good, we did two trips one to Herculaneum and to Monaco. I would highly recommend this ship to anyone. During the cruise we were docked beside far far larger ships and I just hated the look of them as they just looked to me like floating flats. Albeit I have not been on one and it may be different. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary - the places we visited were just amazing! Venice, Santorini, Rhodes and Athens were the best by far if architecture is what you like. Going away in a heatwave (40 degrees at its highest) also made it that bit more enjoyable. Disembarkation and embarkation were fast and easy in each port, very well organised by the staff. Food on board was excellent. Plenty of variety to choose from, even from the set menu in the Orion on an evening. Waiter service in the Orion could've been quicker - the staff are amazing and work hard, there's just not enough of them for such a busy restaurant. Also, there is a dress code in the Orion (no shorts for men, etc.) which was not stuck to. Kids were allowed to go in wearing shorts which was not fair and the same should go for women as I don't want to see a lady in short denim shorts whilst eating my evening meal in a sophisticated restaurant. Other than these, the restaurants were very good overall. The entertainment staff (Lewis, Suzy, Millie and Mils in particular) were amazing - they made out holiday! Sat in the Medusa lounge most nights which had drinks coming all night from our fabulous waiter Nelson and great entertainment. Top Men are definitely one to see if you haven't seen them before - they are wasted on the ships. Entertainment through the day was also good. Although...the pool on Deck 11 used to be adult only which they have scrapped, understandably. The entertainment however has now moved to Deck 11 also meaning all the children came with it. Would have been nice to have the entertainment still by the pool on Deck 9 so that Deck 11 and the Sun Terrace on Deck 12 were a little more relaxing. Haydee our room maid was amazing and very prompt with cleaning our room. All the staff work very hard and are always happy and polite. Overall, an amazing holiday and would definitely recommend!
