Major problem on this cruise. Hot water pipes in my cabin ceiling broke and doused my whole cabin in scalding water. It destroyed all the furniture and all my possessions. The water escapes into the corridor entering other cabins and wetting the floors. Everyone was moved to new cabins. Wonderful. Then everyone compensated with £300. Wonderful. Unfortunately everything we had on the cruise was destroyed. ALL of our clothes suitcases and personal stuff. I’m told now, five weeks later that it is TUI company policy to give £300 compensation and nothing more. IT IS DISGRACEFUL that I receive the same as someone with wet shoes, when I have lost everything. Even our passports were destroyed. Unfortunately my insurance is insufficient to cover all that was lost and so I believe TUI should make up the difference at least? I have rated our experience below without taking into consideration the cabin disaster for Read Less

I have always enjoyed Thomsons cruises and wanted to have a Wedding Blessingfor my 15th annivesary onboard. This was an ideal opportunity to see if Marella cruises were as good as Thomsons. Pleased to say every bit as good. Yes she is an old ship but so much nicer than the floating resorts of other cruise lines. A lovely ship with a wrap round promenade deck, two good sized pools and great restaurants. Excellent food choices, varied menus and great service. I had booked three cabins, one outside plus, one single and one disabled. A minor problem in the cabin was resolved immediately. All cabins were spotless, mine had a bath with two powerful showers over. There was plenty of wardrobe space and tea and coffee facilities in the cabin. A stable ship, I never felt any movement even in rough weather. Captain Richard, Juliana and Lara helped to.make my Blessing very special and I was treated as a VIP all week. Staff in all areas very helpful and polite. The entertainment team work very hard, the CanCan was superb However, I wish the singers would not shout. They wear head mike so don't need to shout. I loved my holiday. Read Less

Chose this cruise as it coincided with a special anniversary. It also visited ports that we were interested in. Plenty of restaurants and activities day and night if you chose to do that. We were only at sea for one day so every other day was taken up with shore excursions. Although TUI reps were very informative on these excursions we found that they were very over priced. Friends went off on their own and paid a fraction of the price we did by using taxi or bus. We also found the speciality restaurants quite expensive considering we were only paying a supplement of an all inclusive cruise. However the dining club experience was to die for. One of the best meal experiences we have ever had. About six small courses with wine to compliment each course. Finishing with a brandy and port costing over £90.00. Surf and Turf restaurant was excellent too with a charge of £47.00 including a glass of wine each. Read Less

We selected this cruise as it was our 40th wedding anniversary and we wanted to do something special. We always fancied trying a cruise but were apprehensive about it being a bad experience. Since we normally holiday with Thomsons (Tui) we felt we would be in good hands and this was a good decision. Overall I can understand how people choose to go on cruise holidays as the overall experience was fantastic. We stayed on in Mallorca for another 3 nights which was a lovely end to our holiday. I could nit-pick like the next one, but nothing is ever perfect and you adapt. Flew out to Mallorca, travelled by coach to the ship and the embarkation process was so well organised it was over in a couple a minutes. Went onboard and headed for our cabin. Within 15 minutes we had our luggage delivered to our cabin. The accommodation was spacious and as I said previously we had a balcony. The bathroom/shower was a little bit underwhelming. The shower looked a bit grubby and small. However the facilities are done to maximise the living space in the cabin and the shower was powerful and always gave me hot water. We slept well in our bed as the mattress was soft and very comfortable. With the gentle rocking movement of the ship as she sailed through the night gave us an excellent sleep. The bars were excellent, with the exception of the Indigo Lounge, which would be better named the Moon Bar as it lacked any atmosphere. The entertainment was very good. Some entertainers was better than others, but on the hole it was a very good standard. The staff were exceptional. They were so friendly and tried to enhance our holiday experience and nothing was a problem to them. The staff were a credit to the ships company and the greatest asset of the ship. As always there is an exception to this and we managed to find one bar waitress called Mansot who needs to go back to finishing school as she was aggressive and abrupt when we dealt with her. But that was easily sorted as there were plenty of staff to attend to us. Our first port was Palermo in Sicily. When we disembarked it was like running the gauntlet with the locals trying to sell their trips. A simple thing like get a taxi into the centre turned into a pressure sale to take a full tour for exuberant prices. We ended up walking into the centre, a walk of about 15 minutes. This set us up for what to expect at the remaining ports, but none were as bad as Palermo. We booked an excursion which was described as Discover the Canals of Livorno. It cost 76 pounds for two and was sold by the ship. It was very disappointing. We were never more than 10 minute drive away from the ship. We were dropped of at a smelly fish market and told we had an hour to explore, but warned that pick pockets operate in this area. My head was on a swivel the whole time When we returned to the ship I was annoyed to learn that passengers had walked off the ship and bought the same excursion for 12 Euros. The excursions I felt were expensive and were all much of a likeness. There was nothing that was exciting like snorkeling, scuba diving or zip wire adventures. The port of Villefranche was beautiful. We wanted to get the train into Monaco, but it was Bastille day which meant the trains were running on a limited service. However we decided to stay in Villefranche and it was an excellent day. So pretty and the quaint cobbled back streets were lovely. The ship was not alongside and we were taken ashore on the tenders. That was an experience. The food onboard was as I would have expected. A very high standard and even the market place which is the buffet style restaurant was very good. I certainly always found that there was plenty to choose from and I was never hungry. And I never had a dicky stomach either. The All Inclusive drinks package was very good and it was unlimited quantities of named branded spirits and beers. I was very happy with my lot. On the first night we went to the live show which was called Rockology. The singers and dancers were very talented and sang well. However I never got the theme of the the show. It was random songs being sung. Good show but lacked production to give it some meaning. We never went back but there was entertainment in every bar and lounge which suited our needs. Our last day was in Barcelona. We had a great day around the pool and the entertainment team provided a great pool party atmosphere. Overall it was a great holiday and experience which we will do again, without a doubt. Read Less

Great entertainment, The ship is falling apart.our cabin smelled fusty and the bolts from our cabin door we found on the floor, windows not cleaned internally despite us asking, we was charged for things from mini bar that was never there(coca cola) the chocolate out of date, All stairways on board are extremely smelly a horrid dusty smell When on deck 1 embarking or disembarking smell of sewage is over powering and you have to hold your breathe as much as possible and get through as quick as possible When calling lift mid ships deck 4 my fingers disappeared into the wall when I pressed the button. As I tried to pull my hand back the switch trapped my fingers injuring them, I reported it and was just told maintenance would be informed I was not asked how I was or to fill my n an accident report, despite reporting this twice on board and twice since home have received no response what so ever from Tui Ship needs complete over Hall painting over cracks and rust is not sufficient The entertainment and food also activities is a good standard what a shame they let their selves down with a reactive approach to maintenance intstead of a proactive approach Also a health and safety together with a reporting of accidents and a monitoring system put it place Prevention is always better than a cure or as in my case they ignored my report of the incident twice on board and 3 emails since arriving home to this day I have not had any reply from either Tui or Marella The foreign staff on board we found very friendly the uniformed European staff we found to be less so mostly ignoring the passengers Read Less

I chose this cruise for several reasons. 1. Itinerary, following the Adriatic coast I felt it would be more likely to be a smooth sail and the sea would be calm. ( I am not a good sailor). 2. The stop ports were places I hadn't been to before. This was my first time on a cruise and I traveled as a single woman. I arrived after an early morning flight. The check in was easy, quick photograph taken and given card for boarding in a flash. Everything was so organised and I felt that continued throughout the cruise and included departure at the end. The dining was fabulous, especially the main restaurants, with waiter service for breakfast lunch and dinner. Food was really good and well presented, menu changed every day. Italian on upper level fabulous too. Given a pager at busy times, so just went for a drink until table ready. Sharing a table meant that it was quicker to get a table and a great way to meet new people and chat. Didn't manage the A la Carte restaurants as they were booked up very quickly. The buffet restaurant has lots of choices but can be very busy, only went in there for breakfast and also lunch on first arrival but enjoyed it. I attended a singles meeting on the second day organised by the crew hostess. Lovely new friends made, and in particular one friend, that enabled us to do things together including trips ashore and evenings at different entertainment spots. So much to do and still didn't manage all the entertainment on board. My cabin had a window and a lovely comfy double bed, loved it, and a really good steward, who looked after me and my room. So much to say I could go on and on. The singing from the entertainers was superb. The places and excursions are amazing. I had 3 nights after the cruise at a hotel in Corfu, because as much as I loved it, It can be very tiring and hard on the joints. It was wonderful way to end an incredible holiday. The ship is gorgeous! Read Less

The ship is getting a bit tired but its still fantastic ,FOOD is fabulous loads of choice ,breakfast and lunch is the best in our opinion :) almost like a English full breakfast mmmm. Ship staff are all fabulous :) :) :) so helpful, polite every day ,they never stop working always cleaning and asking how you are doing. Collis are room steward ,made me a towel animal every day they were fantastic , room was kept clean and very tidy.always asking did we need anythink ,and have a nice day .we had a balcony room 8014 fantastic room. ONLY issue with this hoiliday was the Ship had docked up in Palma so far away, it would have been a verylong walk just to get off the docks and then to the town center.we are both walkers but this was too long . we found this happened a few times but they but shuttle busses on for £7pp on theses other days . We chose this ship because it was being re-launched with a new look. In hindsight we should not have gone on the 1st week as there were teething problems, but nothing worth writing home about. First reviewer has pretty much covered everything although I would disagree with the standard of food in the all-inclusive restaurants. We had a bad experience in the Vista (Italian) which we obviously spoke to the waitress about at the time. Wrong order arriving, poor lasagna which resembled something out of frozen microwave box and came in the same looking container dish ...... not good. Diners to my right refused to eat the carbonara, TWICE. I really REALLY got the impression they were trying to steer diners towards the restaurants with cover charge. We encountered this on the Marella Dream but maximum cost was £20 per head. I think having 5 out of 10 eateries with additional cover charge is too much. Especially as the remaining all-inclusive 5 are really only 3, as 2 are combined within other areas. Vista being part of Latitude and the Tapas and Pizza places both being in the Mediterranean area. Don't get me wrong, everyone was trying really hard to make sure guests had a great time, especially Captain Peter and we did have a lovely cruise! PS - I wish I'd known in advance about the free fitness classes at Champneys, I'd have taken my gym gear. Although I did book a lovely treatment. Read Less

Iberian Delights, lived up to the usual smooth operation one would expect from Marella, embarkation was smooth and efficient, less than 10 mins from dockside to our cabin which was well equipped the bathroom had fluffy towels, hairdryer, shampoo and shower gel, the cabin was very clean and roomy, plenty of space for clothes and suitcases, tea, coffee making facilities, replenished daily by our cabin boy Aldrin who was always helpful and friendly. Dining, we ate in the dining room every evening, the menu was varied well presented and on the whole offered enough of a choice that even those who like to complain should have been catered for. Breakfast and lunch were also exceptional afternoon tea was a lovely treat, the words spoilt for choice spring to mind. Overnight sailings meant that there was plenty of time to experience all the on board entertainment on offer. As to shore excursions a really great itinerary from start to finish, and the bonus is only one sea day, the only hiccup was the tender operation for Portimao which due to sea conditions and the fact that everyone seemed to have the same idea as to their timetable for going ashore caused a few people to get a little agitated.(I still think a simple register with time slots bookable the day before would be a simple solution to this problem). We will certainly be sailing with Marella cruises again in the very near future. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we were a bit worried what to expect. However we had an amazing time, From embarkation with the welcome and the organisation at Gatwick airport we thought it was excellent. The ship was immaculate, we had upgraded to a suite on deck 8 which was fab and we had a lovely girl looking after us every day cleaning our room, ironed clothes for us and had chocolates on our bed every night. The staff work so hard cleaning the ship, in the restaurants and entertainment, I could not fault it, we we really impressed. The all inclusive option is really good for all the drink and food options. There was plenty of entertainment and shore excursions if you wanted it, we tended to do our own thing when we went ashore, with water taxis, trips etc. One trip they sold in port on St lucia I thought was expensive for being left 2 hours at a beach with not much to do and a quick stop at marigot bay, and they only had a bit of cheap rum punch to give you. I would not recommend this trip ( this was nothing to do with Tui it was one we did independently) It was a great experience going in and out of port, leaving port in the evening with a glass of prosecco and the sun going down is perfect and exciting waiting to see where you are off to next. Grenada was lovely but a bit pushy when you got into port selling tours. Bonaire was a lovely island and probably the best for snorkelling. Overall would recommend the cruise, we also did the 7 day stay in Barbados at the Waves hotel which was amazing to top off the holiday again a beautiful hotel and would recommend Read Less

We chose this cruise for our honeymoon and were not disappointed. The ship was well appointed and in good condition throughout. Everywhere was immaculate and the cleaning was very thorough. We had a balcony cabin in deck 6. Not massive but adequate with plenty of storage and hanging space. The bathroom was compact like most are and functional. The cabin was well soundproof and the air con worked well. The cabin attendant was excellent. The ship was run very efficiently from arrival to departure. The service from staff was exemplary and friendly. Formal when required and relaxed as well. There was a range of passengers on board. Your hard core pensioner cruisers who enjoy a ballroom waltz to chavvy Wetherspoons regulars just interested in when the pool bar opens. This didnt seem to be a problem as there were dining options bars and entertainment suitable for most. As the saying goes birds of a feather flock together. The main restaurant No 47 was lovely. It was nice that you weren't dictated to sh are tables or strict dining times. The pay off however is be prepared to wait for a table at peak time. Not a problem for us as they give you a pager and we enjoyed a drink in the bar for a short while. The food was lovely. Being from a hotel and catering background i could not fault any of the catering on board. The surf and turf restaurant was fully booked so didn't eat there but the Asian Kora la restaurant was excellent as was the Italian gallery 47, the glass house tapas and the snack snack on pool deck . Island restaurant was typical self service fayre. At times the pool bar was stretched but the wait was ok. There was plenty of waiting staff on pool deck and all the bars providing table service of you didn't want to go to the bar. The entertainment was ok. I guess it's always subjective and would never appeal to everyone but I would say they had a good attempt at providing good variety. We didnt choose to go on the ships excursions but did our own thing in each port. Maps available for each port. Destinations on tropical delights trip were good and I think there was adequate time at each destination. Overall no complaints. Good value duty free ship too. Read Less

Pick up from airport was hassle free, once we put our luggage on the bus we did not touch them again as they were delivered to our cabin. Our cabin number 1020 was fab lovely big cabin and lovely and clean. Our cabin steward Bagus was amazing he kept the place spotless. There a numerous bars on board all with very good entertainment the cruise director Taylor and his team did a fabulous job in ensuring that everyone has a good time. If I had to pick something it would be that the Broadway shows could be better. Bars staff are amazing and work extremely hard, staff that should out forme were Jodie and Roland in the Wave bar. Food was ok the sirens was by far the best place to eat, the worst was the Orion I expected better for a waiter served restaurant. We had steak one day and I asked for it medium rare only to be told it comes one way, having heard my parents rave about to food in this restaurant I was expecting better. The chocolate extravaganza was not like it used to be in fact it was very poor. If I had to make a recommendation it would be to open the Sirens in the evening and allow guest to access one of the 3 Alcarte restaurants free of charge during their stay. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we are now hooked!!! Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The cabin 7020 was lovely and spacious and always kept spotless by the cabin steward, Edward. The ship itself was just the right size for us as we felt that if we went on a huge ship it would not be as cosy. The food was fantastic, choice of buffet, waited or a la carte restaurants. Never a time when we went hungry. The entertainment was great too. We spent most of the time in the Waters Edge bar, where Komang treated us like a King and Queen (superb service and nothing was ever too much trouble for him), but the other bars had plenty to offer too and shows in the Broadway show lounge were on each evening (the ones were saw were fab!) Plenty of organised excursions available but we chose to do our own thing and explore each destination on our own. My hubby used the gym a couple of times and found it really good. The staff all over the ship were excellent and always happy to help but as previously said, Edward the Cabin Steward and Komang the waiter, to us, went the extra mile. To sum it up, we didn't want to leave, we are now hooked and we are looking to go again next year! Read Less

Just back from the Cuban Fusion plus week on the beach in Jamaica. We were first timers and the cruise was much as expected. The food in all restaurants was very good and the endless drinks, particularly Prosecco, was tempting. In fact after a few days with difficulty I managed to keep most alcohol until late afternoon. We went to the Surf and Turf as it was our wedding anniversary and everything, staff, food, table was first class - although as we had already paid for the food, quite expensive at nearly £60. We had a Junior Cabin which was brilliant with sunloungers on the balcony. These were particularly useful on sea days when the decks were rammed with bodies on sunloungers. We were able to to back to the cabin and relax in peace. We found the cabin on deck 8 quite noisy from above with tables and chairs being moved around. If we did it again we would choose a different deck. We were encouraged to have a photo shoot with a complimentary anniversary card. The photos were good but the price £250 for 10 very, very expensive. We only wanted one photo but on principle would not pay £60. We bought one of the other photo outlets with pictures available to see on the screen for £14.95. We toured Havana on foot very easily as the ship was moored right in the centre of town. You can pick up a town map from Reception. It was brilliant. We went back out three times during the day. At Cozumel again we walked around the town. The Museum on the front is a must, plus is has a nice cafe on the top floor overlooking the bay. Well worth it. We took a taxi to the beach in the afternoon he dropped at Carlos and Charlies and we walked down to the beach and then left onto Oceans section which was less crowded. Loungers free for the price of a drink and food available. On the second morning as we were leaving at 2pm, we walked to the orange hotel to the right at the end of the pier and relaxed by their pool all for the price of a drink. On the Caymans, again we went to the museum right by the tender dock and then a taxi to 7 mile beach and back. The cruise was very good and we were glad we had booked a week on the beach at the end to relex. Read Less

Just returned home after a 14 day holiday sailing around the caribbean on the Discovery 2. This was our first experience of cruising and I can honestly say we are hooked. My husband and I had a fantastic time and could not fault anything. We had an inside cabin which was small but as you only sleep in it this was fine and our cabin girl was very friendly and ensure everything was perfect for us. They clean the room twice daily and ensure you have the next days itinerary and chocolate on your bed the night before . The staff are a credit to this ship and work very hard to ensure every guest has a great time. The dining experience was fantastic with various dining experiences to choose from; buffet service, waiter service and fine dining. The ship has a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The all inclusive drinks package was fantastic with all branded drinks. You could dress to impress or just go smart casual which suited us very well. We have been on many holidays but can honestly say that the entertainment was second to none. The young entertainment staff were fantastic and could act, sing and dance. There were was also 2 special guests comedians who made us laugh. As this was our first cruise we did book the majority of our excursions through Tui but could have booked hem independently. Our favourite trips were the Humanitarian tour in Guatamala and the stingray experience in the Cayman Island (albeit that the staff on the boat were not great and did not really understand the importance of health and safety). This cruise was fantastic value for money and we would go back in a heart beat. Well done to all the staff on board and thank you for a great holiday. Read Less

First of all let me apologise because the only other cruise line we have had a suite in was NCL, so if i keep making comparisons with NCL then forgive me. Firstly the flight out with TUI on their Dreamliner flight from Manchester to Barbados was superb. We traveled in premium section. On arrival at the airport luggage was tagged at the cruise desk and then we didn't see it again after the bag drop until it arrived in our suite about 2 hours after after we boarded. It included Fast Track security and the Swissport Aspire lounge. Unfortunately this was packed as they had booked too many people in. Not a nice experience and we left pretty quickly. Flight left 10 minutes late. Crew were brilliant and I cannot praise TUI enough. If you can afford it pay the extra for Premium Class. Food and drink all high quality. Definitely up with scheduled carrier Business class on day flights. Arrived Barbados on time, straight into buses, quick 40 minute drive to the cruise port and was checked in within 10 minutes flat and on ship in 15. So slick and well done. We had the Discovery Suite 8500 which was massive. And I mean massive. Separate bedroom with own door onto balcony. Huge bed, separate tv from main room. In the lounge part, another big tv, a piano, sofas. a bed made up for our friend. Bar area with water and coffee maker. This is where NCL scores big time. Water and drinks with them in the suite all included and as many coffee pods as you need or desire. Butler service as well as suite steward. Although steward and assistant nice enough we hardly ever saw them. Coffee pods limited to one a day. No treats in the afternoon (e.g NCL), no welcoming bottle of wine (eg NCL). I know you say why not travel with NCL but we thought would try Marella out. Apart from the large suite there were no real perks to being in a suite. Everybody on board gets treated the same. All the speciality restaurants bar the Surf n Turf on the last night had already been booked by the back to back passengers. Food: Buffet was excellent and has improved since the ship was owned by RCCL. Great choice of items at all meals especially breakfast. No real queues and always got seats easily. Tried main restaurant once on deck 4 but a bit bottom end and there was an issue with some food intolerance that they got badly wrong. However Galleries 47 on deck 5 (the italian choice) absolutely brilliant and we eat there most nights. Try and get head waiter Georgio and his best team with Aden . Fantastic service, friendly and they went the extra mile. Great food and wine. Surf n turf was excellent (pay extra). The steak was awesome and the choices of wine sublime. Absolutely must go there once if you can for that special meal. Others First day did a wine tasting event in the afternoon. The sommelier from Ukraine is so good. She really knows her subject and we tasted 5 different wines with some nibbles. No question went unanswered. Came up with a perfect Shiraz. OMG. For £7 a session a must do. Claudia the social hostess deserves a mention and some. She arranged our renewal of vows on the bridge which included a meal with the captain, champagne, flowers etc. She is indeed a perfect hostess and nothing was too much trouble. The captain is a great guy, originally from Poland. He loves Only Fools & Horses and Monty Python so if you see him try out the odd quote! Full of humour and so professional. He does 2 months on then swaps with his opposite number. Staff are this ship's shiniest star and always willing to please. We had an issue with one but it was quickly sorted. Reception staff normally eager to please and go the extra mile. The original casino on the ship has been reduced to a small corner in the Live Lounge and was not worth visiting. I was shocked by what Marella had done. Might as well do away with it altogether. No serious gambler would use it. Best bar is top of the ship , ultimate in cocktails. Deck 11 has to be visited for this. Try the smoked cocktails, awesome. Return flight delayed 3 hours departure so we had to stay on the ship for longer. Oh dear how terrible never mind lol. If you are going to get delayed best be somewhere great like Discovery to while away the hours. Only 2 and half hours late back in Manchester. All in all a good cruise including Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Grenada and St Lucia. Captain runs a great ship Read Less

I could hardly express how great it was! It really exceeded my expectations. We were on the Caribbean Gems cruise. Indeed, the ship is old but does not ruin anything. The maintainenace is excellent, everything is cleaned every day and every hour. We were in a cabin on deck one and it was quite rocky especially during the first night (it was the day at sea) but we got used to it quickly. The cabin was not very spacious but there was enough place for all our stuff. We were a little disappointed that we bed was not double and we had to sleep on separate beds. We had a window and could watch the waves crashing on the ship, it was fascinating. Our cabin steward was great, he cleaned the acbin twice a day and arranged the towels in the shape of animals :) The dining was perfect. Most of the dishes in Lido restaurant (the buffet) were not something really special but there was a great variety and the food was always available, fresh and warm. Mistal's restaurant provided excelent cuisine and service. The lobster and the beef were so delicious. Kora La was not as special as we expected - you could skip it. The entertainment was superb. There was something for everyone - live performances, singing, dancing, theathe, trivia, karaoke and so on. For me, the funniest moments were when the staff themselves were part of the show - they amused us a lot and you can tell that they enjoyed themselves. Speaking of the staff - they are thoroughly amazing and make you feel fantastic. Now that the cruise ended, I miss the ship, I miss the sea, I miss the staff, everything. this is definitely the worst part... Don't worry about getting seasick. I have problems when travelling by car and I often have nausea but I did not feel bad during the cruise. It is just as if you are a little drunk and cannot keep balance ;) The shore excursions were amazing too, especially Seven Sisters in Grenada and Swimming with stingrays in Antigua. The organization of embarkation, excursions and everything was punctual and smooth. All in all - it is soooooo good, do not hesitate to do it! Read Less

We picked this cruise for the price, all-inclusive and itinerary. The arrival was smooth with an agent ready to direct us on the bus. From there we went to the port and once again very quick and smooth. The ship is small but had everything we needed. A little rocky due to weather and the size of the ship. Captain always kept us well informed on weather conditions and arrival times. The rooms were small as most cruises. It needed fresh paint as you could see the yellowing on the ceiling. The mattress definitely needed to be replaced and 3 separate rooms all agreed. We dined almost the entire time in 47 on deck 4. We sat at table 42 with Julio and Mitsa as waiters. They made the dining experience absolutely perfect. Disappointed in upstairs Italian restaurant as the service was okay but food not great. The food is geared towards the Brits but lots of delicious options for us Canadians. The daily entertainment was enjoyable around the pool but the evening staff entertainment was your typical cruise shows. Some nights better than others. At the end of each show always had a table of Champaign glasses waiting for you. Upstairs for Bar 11 was a great quiet place to watch the view, have a drink and listen to somebody play the Sax. The service was great. The waiters were fun to talk to and also very interesting. The excursions are all in Pounds so very expensive for us Canadians. We did do Gatun Lake Kayak in Panama through the cruise line and that was a blast. Less expensive option is to wait to port and get an excursion there. Over all it was an amazing time, love the small ship and would love to go back Read Less

I booked this cruise as a last minute getaway for me and my wife. I have only been cruising once before on the crown princess so after looking at the reviews I was dreading my week away. How wrong could I have been. This was a fantastic cruise with fantastic staff. As a avid cook that enjoys cooking I loved the food and the way it was always perfectly cooked. I did hear of someone moaning because the scrambled egg wasn’t cooked. I’m sure Jeeves cooked theirs better at home, but Proper cooks cook scrambled eggs like you get them on the ship. The staff in the restaurants worked like pack mules and still had smiles on their faces. I received customer service that I never got in the two weeks on the crown princess, I really wished that the dream was my first cruise. Also read the reviews about the entertainment. Again very very wrong. Sound nation in the medusa lounge was fantastic. And it was hard to get a seat most nights, so if that’s worse than pub singers as reviews have said, I can only guess the pubs they go to are called trendy wine bars with violinists!!!! The entertainment staff was so attentive and made you feel like family not a number, cruise director Taylor has a great team in Fran,Susie,Katie and then there is Lewis, I think I broke ribs I laughed so much at his quips. Yes she has problems, she is a old ship and shows her age, but for what you paid for the ticket some people want staff walking behind them. I would say give her a try, make your own mind up, not just negative people finding little faults with her. Read Less

What a week! Where do i begin? My boyfriend and I were not looking for a cruise, in fact i sent him into down one dreary day in September 2017 to go book a week away for some winter sun for valentines day. What about a cruise the travel agent in TUI (back then Thomson's) said? What about a cruise? Always wanted one and seems cheaper than a land vacation! We settled on Marella Dream and the Canarian Flavours Itinerary. Everything was easy to book and in fact we booked the No. 1 lounge at Gatwick as we had an early flight (highly recommend as this also allows you priority access through security). The flight was delayed a little as two passengers missed the plan! Other then that the flight was uneventful, i am glad we upgraded to extra legroom seats! Embarkation was easy, the coach transfer from the airport to the ship was smooth and it was easy to find a Marella representative. Quick and efficient embarkation. The only issue I found was i registered my credit card for the room account but if my partner used his card that night and we woke up to a letter through the door telling us to register a card. A quick trip to reception soon sorted that. We decided to upgrade to the premium drinks package and booked some restaurant early on as it was valentines on this cruise and they were almost booked up at this time! Our cases were delivered within the hour so we unpacked and soon set off exploring. The Muster drill was just after 9pm, i was shattered after the travel and quite glad not to have to wear my life jacket for this. We had prebooked our cabin, 6140 and outside plus. Very spacious with out double bed under the picture window, a sofa with a small table, a large dressing table with storage and big mirror with lights around, lots of wardrobe space and a good sized en suit with a shower over the bath. We never saw out cabin attendant but they did a great job (sadly no towel animals :( ). Our first full day we docked in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. We booked a beach transfer excursion and enjoyed the 26 degree temperature and lazing about on the beach! The next day we docked at San Sebastian, no excursion booked here but the town was lovely to go and wander around. Plenty of placed for a nice coffee and beautiful scenery. Sadly we only had till 2pm to enjoy here but off we went on our way to the lovely Funchal in Maderia. This was the trip I was most looking forward to. We booked the cable car excursion with the botanical gardens. The cable cars are very easy to find and you could easily do this on your own. Just 10 short minutes walk from the ship (2 minutes by bus), easy to navigate and the views were stunning! We went all the way up into the town of Monte where we had an hour to visit the old church and enjoy a coffee in the square. It was like something out of a fairy tale and stunningly beautiful. We purchased our Madeira wine and cake for very reasonable price (15 Euros) for the folks back home. Now here was the fun part! You had a choice, back down the hill on the bus or using the traditional toboggans! We chose the later and what fun it was! Quick drink at the cafe at the bottom and back on the coach en route to the botanical gardens. The tour guide gave us a choice of a guided tour around these or an hour to explore ourselves. We decided to break away from the group and explore on our own. Very pretty and well worth the money. We got back on the bus and went to sample some Madeira wine and look at the local embroidery before heading back to the ship. We got back to the ship about 1:30pm, as we weren't due to depart until 8pm we decided to go explore the town. We paid 5 euros and took a classic Mercedes to the Market were we sampled local tapas and looked around the street. Found a great place for ice cream amongst the streets so make sure you go and explore! The next day was at Sea, i had been suffering with seasickness a little as the waters were quite choppy so i was worried for this day if I am honest. I had been getting tabled from reception (£2 for 4 seasickness tablets) but they didn't help me. Whilst docked in Funchal i visited a local pharmacy and got strong tablets. Thankfully these worked and I enjoyed the day at sea. A little lie in, late breakfast and a walk around the promenade deck. We enjoyed the whirlpools on deck 9 but as it was half term week there was a lot of children and some very misbehaving with no parents in sight! I thought the whirlpools are for over 14's only but this rule wasn't adhered to. Some of the kids were fine, but a lot decided a game of splash was in order and proceeded to climb over me and other passengers whilst splashing profusely...not the ships fault but i did comment about where the parents were. They held a Texas Hold 'em Up Poker tournament in the casino at 3pm, £25 buy in with 70% of the pot as the winnings. I signed up for this and came 5th so enjoyed myself. The casinos are good fun but remember to buy in pounds as the exchange rate is horrendous! 50 euros was about £38 so you are losing before you even play! But hey, that is gambling for you! The next day we docked at Arrecife in Lanzarote. Here we booked the dune buggy excursion and it was great fun! Saw some amazing sights but you don't half get dirty! It didn't help whilst everyone else drove around the pools of muddy water my boyfriend drove through them and soaked us. Great fun and good value for money. I would definitely book an excursion here as there isn't much to do in the port. The same can be said for the last port we visited on this trip, Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura. We didn't book and excursion and the town was a bit of a disappointment. A few cheap souvenir shops but not much else. We would recommend booking an excursion or preplanning this port if you do this trip. We were very sad to leave the next day but disembarkation was very smooth and the staff are always happy to help. About the ship, yes she is dated, but she is also 31 years old and has character! I loved her as i do not really fancy cruising on a floating shopping mall. We ate in all the restaurants. I preferred the waiter service in Orion and my partner liked the Lido buffet. We both enjoyed the late night curry at 11:30pm which was lovely after a few cocktails in the evening. We also tried all three premium restaurants, Kora La, Hot Stones and Minstrals. All were lovely but Minstrals was amazing. We were lucky to enjoy this restaurant on valentines night with a wonderful seat next to a big window watching the sunset. All the women were given a single rose by the waiter and the food is out of this world. Marella do a package deal for all three restaurants for £49 per person, a great deal and well worth it. We spent most of our evenings in Waters Edge or at the back on deck 10 above the swimming pool. The entertainment in Waters Edge was good. Didn't see any shows as not really our thing but the services was great and the staff are only too happy to help. The shops are good, sampled the spa but found it too pricey in my honest opinion (and made my seasickness worse!) Our safe malfunctioned half way through the cruise and reception sent someone down within 5 minutes of us reporting. Soon fixed with no issue. Yes you can use the safe without paying, but, you have to sign a form when you pay and without this signature you insurance is invalid. It would have been incredibly embarrassing had we not paid but used the safe and our passport ended up locked inside! We loved this cruise, the ship and the fellow staff and passengers so much we are hooked and one whole week after arriving home, we booked a 2 week cruise on the same ship for March 2019. Fantastic crew and service. We were worried as lots of reports of hygiene issues and the dreaded Norovirus before we embarked, however, there is hand sanitiser everywhere and the only time I felt it unhygienic was fellow passengers not washing their hands after going to the loo! So to conclude, lovely ship, she is an old lady but has real character and charm about her which we adored. Wonderful attentive staff and beautiful ports of call. 100% recommend for those who like the personal feel of a smaller ship. We loved her so much so we are going back and cannot wait. However, if you do not want the whirlpools to be hogged choose to go during term time. Read Less

This is our sixth cruise on-board the Celebration, the first being 10 years ago. Yes we will agree that the ship is getting a little old, however, the refurbishments to the ship, made over the period we have enjoyed here, are significant and have made a huge improvement to our enjoyment. Let's go from the start. Our luggage was taken from us at Manchester Airport, and the next we saw of it was in the cabin. (The same applied to our return journey) The transfer from plane to the ship, was effortless. The greeting and issue of the 'on board' cards was simple and quick. Once onboard, the staff were as friendly as always. The cabin (Deck 6 Outside Plus) was very large, very clean and well equipped. The food, especially in the main Dining Room, The Meridian, was nothing short of first class, great variety, great service, if variations were requested, they were always delivered. The food in the Lido self service dining area, has been greatly improved. The food is fresh, hot and beautifully presented. The entertainment staff were some of the best we have had. The 'show team' had fantastic harmonies together and produced a fantastically entertaining evening every night. (Congratulations' to them all) If there was a slight fault, we think it was with the ports of call. All Islands were affected by the recent hurricane. Most of the islands have repaired quickly from this devastation, however some have done little to repair, but we still go, twice during a 2 week cruise. Yes we know they want the tourist's money, but there is nothing to do and see, a 15 min. walk around and back on the ship, is all that they see of us and our money. Other ports have 'No Go' area's, which are a little off-putting. The excurtions listed onboard were extremly expensive and to be honest, not worth the prices stated. Some changes to the itinerary are required. It was my wife's special birthday whilst onboard. The staff (And Guests) made a huge fuss, and made this trip even more special. This cruise is highly recommended and we will be returning to the Celebration for future explorations in the near future. Thank you to all the staff. Read Less

The staff on the ship were brilliant except for darren tiller the general manager when we spoke to him not even a congratulations from him, the attitude was your paid for the cruise and that was it no customer service to follow. The hotel riu montego bay where we stayed on our second week gave us a bottle of champagne and a nice letter which went a long way ..The cabin was nice but did need paint around window frame and we could have done with toiletries. The elton john singer wouldnt have even got on the x factor, total rubbish .The ship was only doing 16knots to save fuel never mind our cruise going early from ports. Transfer from the airport What a nightmare from start to finish cattle market comes to mind ,endless form filling .no TUI REP OR CRUISE STAFF in sight only local jamacians to herd you to the bus. Cruise port A shed of a place more form filling again why couldnt this be done before we arrive in the country!! Cabins No staff to help you find your cabin, you had to find your own way. Food average! !staff who worked cleaning the cabins were fabulous ,drinks were ok ,entertainment poor, shore excursions totally fantastic . water was extra ,which was a joke as it was supposed to be all inclusive. NEVER AGAIN ,it wasnt a cheap holiday it was £5000 with the trips so not a cheap /honeymoon expected a lot better ,but didnt get it !!! Read Less
