This cruise was our first for me, my husband and my parents who are both 80. It was exceptionally well organised from pick up at Dalaman airport to boarding at Marmaris. Our cabins were brilliant and think they must have been refurbished as there was no mould or chipped or rattling fittings! Our "man" who looked after us Dede couldn't have made us feel more looked after. Our rooms were always so clean and tidy. I understand about the "butlins" atmosphere but obviously lots of people like this otherwise Thomsons would have done away with the napkin folding, I do agree that it could be done inside the boat. It is packed around the pool and impossible to get beds most of the time but we took this cruise basically for its ports of call. All tours are so very well organised and I advise that these should be booked with Thomsons. I booked all of mine online with thomsons before sailing and did get a slightly better deal. If you need to cancel or swap for any reason you can get a refund. You can do whole days or half and have plenty of time to explore on your own. I cannot understand anyone who doesn't get off the boat. The tour team are fantastic and I loved all the ports of call. It is a very well priced cruise and you really get what you pay for. We tried all three restaurants and liked the Meridian the best for dinner. There is great service and a different choice every night. We paid for Mistral for the one night and enjoyed that too. We always took breakfast in the Lido. If you want more variety of food then suggest you pay double and go on a more upmarket cruise. One thing I particularly liked with the Daily Cruise News updating us on the next day's port of call and all entertainment on board. All staff from cleaners to Captain and his crew were polite and cheerful at all times. There was different entertainment every night to suit all tastes. There could be some better shops aboard but you can visit all different kinds of shops when disembarking. A great week for all of us. Thanks Thomsons.   Read Less

My Wife and I, along with another couple have just returned from a Thomsons cruise and stay holiday, the first part of our holiday was onboard the cruise ship Thomson Celebration, cruising the Eastern med Ancient Wonders. The first thing to say is if you are looking for a cruise that has wall to wall formality, fancy fixtures and fittings , %15 added to every drink you buy, gratuities automatically added to your cabin every day, then this is not the cruise for you. But if you are looking for a choice of formality or the totally laid back approach with first class entertainment and service from all the staff that I have never seen the equal of, and the added bonus of no gratuities, this is the cruise for you. This ship is not the most modern you will see and tiny in comparison to some of the modern ships, but this is only a minor distraction you will receive the best service from the staff that I have ever seen on a cruise ship, the service staff are mainly from the Philippines and Indonesia all giving service with a smile and a great deal of them add that little extra, e.g. in the piano bar playing card tricks, serenaded while having dinner in the Lido Restaurant plus many more talented people. The entertainment staff provided a fantastic package throughout the day and into the early hours, with a wide variety that would cover all tastes, the crew show was excellent and the main band Top Man were superb. The food on board was good plenty of choice with a number of places to dine and different themes . One item you need pay attention to is the drinks package, before you decide whether to take up the offer you need to carry out a calculation, we were on the ship 7 nights with 4 in our group and we paid almost '£800 for the drinks package, most drinks were priced at £3.70 each therefore you would need to drink 54 drinks each over 7 days before you get value for money, also you need to be aware of what is available if you do not state what drinks brand you require you will be automatically be given Local Spirits , it was two days before we found out what the range of branded drinks were that you could have, but all in all a great cruise. We then moved on to the Club Turban in Marmaris were I will leave a report on the hotels home site Read Less

This was our first cruise and to be honest we feel a bit let down with it, or was it a case of us expecting to much from what we thought a cruise would be like. Embarkation was swift and prompt, and was shown directions to our cabin. The cabin was above expectations being roomy, comfortable with plenty of storage space and clean. Next was what was called the "sail away" party. we thought they might provide you with a complimentary drink, but all we got was a butlins type atmosphere of "people on the left you're team A, give us a cheer!!, not our type of thing, then the resident band and staff performed songs. We didn't know we'd started sailing until someone said we're moving, we thought this is where an announcement could have been made in a butlins/love boat manner rather than "team A, B or C" give us a whoop woop! We found the food average at best, just as we've found in AI hotels, it looked amazing but the tastes didn't quite match the look of it....but there was plenty of choice and we found the breakfasts to the most enjoyable. We cannot comment on the shows as we're not into that sort of thing, I did take in the comedian for all of 5 minutes, but left as the jokes he was telling i'd heard in 1998 by johnny casson!! As others have said, on a sea-day, forget about getting a sunbed unless you're up early, and also you are packed in like sardines. Please Thomson, on sea-days can you make sure that ,napkin folding, cooking demo be taken inside the ship (libertines was empty) as it was so off putting hearing the entertainment crew describe every small detail, whilst we were trying to relax or read...i gave up trying to read as i couldn't concentrate, but I know how to fold a napkin!! LOL The ships crew were very friendly and professional and are a credit to this ship with big thanks to Ad ang. Rio and the rest We were always the last to re-board ship as we loved being ashore, and would have liked the ship to stay overnight so you could sample the various places at night as they have a different atmosphere. We are independent travelers as a rule and like to get out and mingle with the locals but thought we'd try a cruise as we wanted to go to Istanbul and Athens, (which the ancient wonders itinerary did) but this is a very British ship with very British passengers, with butlins type announcements over the tanoy and as such is not for us. A Turkish waiter summed it up for us whilst in Kusadsai..He said "you don't like cruising cos you are governed by rules, when to get off/on the boat..where you can go on board etc.."..we thought yes...we like to do our own thing in our own time.
