We had a lovely week in Montego Bay in the Riu palace, would defiantly give that a 5 star rating. We were advised by Thomson rep to stay at hotel first as we would be disappointed with hotel after the cruise, this I might add was completely the opposite. We arrived at the Thomson Dream, first appearances, OK a bit tired, cabin was quite nice, no complaints there. The food during the day, somewhat poor 3 star cafeteria, the staff Wore dreary washed out Hawaiian shirts with personalities to match. We bought all inclusive drinks package, which a total rip off as the spirits they used were awful so we ended adding another 1.20 on to the bill for a decent drink, in the long run more expense The main dining room the service was pore but the food not so bad, nearly always cold though. The entertainment was really first class there was something for everyone to enjoy. Most people on the cruise were friendly. The theatre was quite nice. Carpets in corridors a bit grubby. Best was when we were told to leave our cases outside our cabin Monday night and we would pick them up in Manchester Wednesday morning, being women on our own we always worry about hauling heavy suitcases around. We got home ok. Opened our cases to find that someone had already been in them and stolen the duty free cigarettes we had bought for the family, informed Thomson, told to contact insurance company. Advise by suitcase with combination lock for cruise. Read Less

Some friends asked us if we would like to cruise with them to the Caribbean . My partner had always said he would never ever cruise unless it was to the Caribbean . So we agreed to go , although it was 9 months away I was counting down the days (like a kid at Christmas ). It was decided to go with Thomson Cruises. For a first time cruiser it was brilliant . From flying with the Dreamliner , fantastic !! from when we left the plane to when we got to our cabins it was no more than 40 -45 minutes . The cabins were clean & tidy if a little tired, but there was plenty of space for clothes and everything you needed to hide . The food was top notch in the restaurants. All the staff were all brilliant , and everyone smiled at you no glum faces any-where. The entertainment was very good and the staff productions were brilliant . We only used taxies what ever port we stopped at , they took you wherever you wanted to go (normally the beach ) for a fixed fee of 14 dollars . On the day of departure our plane was not due to leave un till 6.00 p.m .but we were allowed to stay on board until we were due to leave for the airport .,which I thought was very good customer service. For our second cruise we wanted to try a bigger ship, so we are going NCL Epic at the end of September for a Mediterranean Cruise. Read Less

Thomson Dreamliner is a fantastic plane. Lots of leg room and free food and drink during the flight. But, what started well, ended badly. The Jamaican airport was hot, humid, crowded and queued. No where to sit, no air conditioning, no water and no where to rest in a confined corridor containing hundreds of people. Tempers flared after hours waiting to get to embarkation and some felt faint. A musical group from the island greeted us at the ship but the singer was out of tune and the musicians seemed fed up of playing it took that long for everyone to board. The buffets were always full of food and refreshments and the restaurant was great for an evening meal. However, the food was mostly overcooked, warm at best when eating and not very tasty in all the eateries. I did not like the fact you helped yourself to buffet with tongs. It would have been more hygienic to have been given the food by buffet staff. Despite the fact the ship had antibacterial dispensers throughout, many passengers ignored them. I had a bad tummy in the middle of the first week and was told by a passenger that the ship had had Noro virus aboard the week before resulting in the closure of the Jacuzzis. I was also by other passengers that many people were being treated for a bad cough, an outbreak which had been on board since December with antibiotic drips having to be issued for pneumonia and also that 5 people had died on board during this time. Myself and my husband both went home with a bad cough at the end of the cruise. One woman was badly burnt by a soot gob that had been blown from the ship's funnel. Many passengers had broken their arms whilst on board. Health and safety was an issue as I saw a crew member carrying two stacks of cups on his tray down a spiral staircase. Smoking was allowed on the decks which was very quickly extended to inside the ship and door areas by smokers who ignored the rules. It was hard to get away from cigarette smoke on the deck areas. We found it very difficult to get a sun lounger before 10am and these were hogged by selfish passengers all day despite the fact that they were not using them for hours. The ship had an overcrowded feel during the sea days and the days were quite strained. The behavior of some of the passengers was terrible despite their mature years. Tempers flared and a fight broke out over the use of a lift which carried on in the sun deck. There was a lot of foul language used by some of the down to earth types which did offend other passengers with their rudeness at times. Some of the deck flooring was bubbled and torn. The first port was La Romana. I wish I had stayed aboard the ship. We were transported by shuttle to the nearby town and was immediately bombarded by very persistent venders that were very intimidating. We all immediately got right back on the bus and returned to the ship. This port did not match the description at all. My favourite ports were St Maartin and Antigua. Shops were wonderful and there were many nice places to go. The Virgin Islands were a little boring as we had not been able to book a tour but on returning to the ship many passengers were disappointed with their trips here. One had gone to see whales and was told by locals that whales are a rare sight in April as they don’t arrive until June when the season for them starts. We did see some flying fish and dolphins on the sea days. Gibraltar is a nice place but there was very little time to visit more than one venue as the ship departs at 2pm and we had to be back on board by 1:30. We were talked out of using the cable car by the port taxi drivers who said that we would not have time to use it. The port inspector confirmed this when asked to back up the statements but on speaking to the tourist visitor centre they said we would have had plenty of time to use it. So I think we were conned into using them at a cost. To sum up, I personally quite enjoyed my time on this cruise but I know that quite a few other passengers were very disappointed and if rumors were correct some did not return at all. Read Less

Forgot to write a review at the time but just want to say what a fantastic cruise we had! We did the transatlantic from the canaries over to the Caribbean. It was our first cruise and we loved every minute of it. The ship was great- very clean, great food, fantastic staff! The entertainment was out of this world, wouldn't find better in the West End! We were in an outside plus cabin which was a great size for 3 adults. The theme of our cruise was big band and we enjoyed music by the fantastic Greg Francis Orchestra! I did the river tubing excursion in Grenada with Thomson which was such good fun, would highly recommend it to others. As it was Christmas time, they ran a gingerbread house decorating competition and we won a trip to the hot stone restaurant on board. The Atlantic crossing was so calm, you wouldn't have even known you were on a boat. The whole process was made so easy from the beginning from being picked up from the airport and escorted to our cabin to them holding the plane on the way home due to the transfer bus being delayed by traffic. I wish I could go back and relive every moment of the cruise as it was so magical and really was a dream...can see where it gets it name! The passengers on the ship are so friendly and have even stayed in contact with a few. So impressed by Thomson that have booked another cruise around the canaries at the end of March 2016. Read Less

Just returned off of the Celebration having been before was not expecting the glamour of the larger cruise liners but it still lived to our expectations if you are looking for a fun time without the glitz then would recommend this ship which I understand will be Adult only in June. There were only a handful of children on this cruise anyway but in my opinion that will make it even better. If you like a drink then get the drinks package the only (Not so Good)was the bars kept running out of diet coke and tried to parm you off with coke zero while this is only a preference it made you have to ask again and waste a drink which they got a bit touchy about but soon resolved they also try to sneak the odd local brand drink in so continually had to specifically to make sure it was Bacardi and not Ron Blanca. Flights and transfer all OK and smooth although Marmaris is 1.5 hrs from Dalaman but it's not to bad. We had a suite on our first cruise with Thomson but as not available opted for deluxe outside which was slightly smaller but ideal for us Some dirty ports in Egypt but that's not their fault so if your not going to the Pyramids stay on the boat! Overall hats off to Thomson we had a great time we travelled with Cunard In April on the Queen Victoria I would rate the service atmosphere and entertainment far better on the Thomson Celebration Read Less

Recently went on a Thomson Dream back to back cruise sailing from Palma. Overall we had a fantastic time and our worries were totally unfounded. As with many other passengers we to had watched the BBC review last year on Watchdog. Our cruise party consisted of eight passengers, two had never cruised before while four others had cruised with Celebrity last year and my wife and myself who have now cruised four times on four different lines (Previously Celebrity, Ocean Village, Island Cruises). From the time we embarked to our dis-embarkment the crew were fantastic the entertainment was geared up for British passengers which was probably 95% if not more of the total passengers on board. The food was excellent in the Orion restaurant an there was also a good selection in the buffet restaurants, although we did prefer the more formal waiter service in the Orion. The ship was looking a little tired in a few places but the main areas were good and you can see there is work in progress to improve facilities. One main concern was the before we cruised was the toilet facilities especially on the pool decks and public areas which we thought may be dodgy after watching the watchdog review but it was obvious that these had been completely refurbished and our worries were unfounded. The overall atmosphere on the ship was great which was night and day compared to Celebrity where people seemed afraid to let their hair down and were more concerned with their own self importance. My wife and I were worried that the ship may be a let down for the people in our party who had only on Celebrity Four of our party had only been on Celebrity Eqinox before but they much preferred the Thomson Dream and apart from the obvious size of the ship in comparison thought that most of the amenities were similar. The only possible downside to the cruise was probably the very busy itinerary of ports, we could of done with maybe an extra day at sea as it began to get a little tiring as the two weeks went on. I suppose it was our choice to visit every port though! As mentioned before the ship is obviously a work in progress for Thomson and if they continue to renew some of the older more tired parts of the ship I do not see why there would be any compaints. The cabins were nice and spacious but the bath, although very clean, had seen better days as had some of the corridor carpets are worn other than that everything seemed in good order. I would recommend this ship to anyone who likes to be entertained in a friendly atmosphere. The all inclusive package was also good, although I'm not really sure that it was included in the price as advertised when we booked as the cuise was not cheap at any stretch of the imagination!! Lastly, a big thank you to Dennis, Thom and Alan who looked after us in the Orion Restaurant and provided a memorable night for one of our party on her Birthday. Overall a great holiday!!! I obviously can't speak for everyone who has sailed on the dream, but i do think some people get on the ship and concentrate all their time on finding faults. On one of the previous reviews, one of the passengers complained that the only place on the ship to get any peace and quiet was in his cabin.Did he not visit the argo lounge, the library, the deck behind ladontes or the side of the ship which was decked out with sunbeds and a lot of snoring. The word nitpicking springs to mind. Well humpty,jumpty.trumpty,stumpty.grumpty and lumpty had an unbelievable time. Let me start with negatives.Thomson should employ someone to look after sunbeds because far too many people put towels on sunbeds and then get off the ship to visit a port and return 6 hrs later. You then see people walking round the ship looking for a sunbed which can cause friction. Also you can get an odd whiff but very rarely. Trips are a bit expensive and some of the ports repetetive and boring. Positives. Staff fantastic, food amazing.entertainment unbelieveable. You really have to try and vary your options of an evening to take everything in.Quizzes of an afternoon in sirens and evening in the medusa were a great laugh. The shows in the amazing atlanta theatre were of a really high standard, great dancers, great voices, some really talented people. Auctions, comedians, bingo wahay, competitions, karaoke, you really could not ask for much more. If like us you are on the all inclusive package, you will not be disappointed, but be warned,do not go to casino after a few too many, because when my bill came under the door my missus found it first,oh oh. The only people who were'nt smiling on board were professional whingers. The captain was also good for a laugh and we will definitely be sailing on the old lady again.Agood time was had by all. P.S.9 euros return to rome if you go by train 45 mins. Read Less
