We were a group of four - a 50+ couple travelling with our 14 year old son and my 80+ mother (with limited mobility). We selected two, back to back 7 day cruises making a figure 8 from Palma de Mallorca around Portugal, Spain, Italy and Southern France. We chose the ship and Marella (Tui) because it went where we wanted to go when we were able to go - we haven’t cruised with Marella before. First - some shout outs to the exceptional service from our cabin staff - led by Faiden - who looked after us all with great care throughout our fortnight. We particularly enjoyed the e-bike excursions led by Niko and Ashleigh - they led us through the sights and the beaches of Portimao, Corsica and St Raphael. We also used some of the coach based excursions- which were comfortable and as expected. We appreciated the peace of mind of all inclusive drinks - the upgrade was not necessary- and saw no evidence of it being abused by our fellow passengers. We were keen patrons of the coffee port, where we always enjoyed friendly service from Tamara. We ended up consistently using the Islands buffet for meals, for the pure convenience and because we tended to be earlier to rise and to bed than most, so that we tended to want our meals earlier than the other restaurants opened. We had breakfast a couple of times in the waiter service 47 degrees dining room - and it was a better experience. Islands certainly has a variety of food, but it has to be said that some of it was not very tasty - which is probably an inevitable consequence of the cooking methods required to produce food on that scale. Nonetheless we opted for convenience and there was usually something memorable on our plate each night. We frequently used the gym and adjoining spa/sauna services which were well equipped and set up. We preferred the Glass house indoor pool area which was quieter and cooler than the main pool area. In summary, the cruise delivered the experience we had hoped for with some of the staff making it that little bit better than we had expected. Read Less

Did not know what to expect on this our first cruise as we had read so many varied reviews, but we could not fault our cruise experience, we booked a large balcony cabin and it was perfect, we had our own sun lounger, table with 2 chairs and a hammock! It was ideal to get away from the hustle and bustle of the pool deck areas and really chill out. Okay the Marella explorer is not brand new and not as huge as some of the other cruise ships but for us it as just right. The main self service dinning room served a good range of hot and cold dishes which changed daily, and if you wanted a full English breakfast you'd have to go a long way to beat it, we also tried out the specialty restaurants, some you had to pay a cover charge for, but well worth it, and the all inclusive drinks package was the best we ever had, all the top and well known beers and spirits. We can't praise all the staff on-board enough, from the cleaners to the ships Captain, nothing was too much. Plenty of hand sanitisers' everywhere, entertainment and activities were suited to all age groups and were well organised, The only thing I would do differently next time would be to book shore excursions on-board the ship, yes they are more expensive than doing it yourself but it saves the hassle of being pestered by the hoards as you walk out of the port area into local towns, overall we had a fantastic first cruise experience and certainly do it all over again, especially on the Marella Explorer. We are fairly recent cruisers and wanted a winter sun break and booked this cruise in January on line. The weather was superb and we were told by the crew the best they have had for several years. We flew from East Midlands to Tenerife and arrangements at departure, on arrival, coaching to Santa Cruz and boarding Marella Dream went like clockwork. The ship is old but is modern in appearance with good quality furnishings and the staff very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble from our room steward to the bar and restaurant staff. Corridors and lift space are a little narrow and not as spacious as more modern ships. The variety of lounges and drinking and dining options were first class as was the food and drinks. We like to be on our own for dinner and for six nights we were served by Jennifer and April who looked after us very well. The Marella Dream Show team and their shows in the Broadway Show Lounge were excellent. Some very good singers and dancers however the comedian Alan Wilkins material was older than us and we are in our 70's. The resident band were again very good with such a wide range of music on offer. Our only disappointment was the lack of space for sunbathing when we had such good weather. We were birthed in walking distance of six of the places we visited which is brilliant. There were lots of excursions and trips arranged which people we spoke to enjoyed. Leaving the cruise was also faultless, colour coded luggage and well organised. Our only disappointment was East Midlands Border Control on the return. It took about 30 minutes to process us which is not acceptable. A superb restful and enjoyable cruise. Thank you TUI. Read Less

Chose this cruise due to the ports of call. Flight out from Manchester smooth, excellent onboard service and check in at Montego Bay was efficient.I knew the ship having previously travelled on her when in Royal Caribbean brand, but transformation was great. We had an inside cabin and was suffucient for our needs as only in room to shower and change, room kept clean by excellent cabin steward. Dining-- we are early risers so we ate breakfast at the buffet in Islands restaurant, plenty of variety of food and very tasty, we also went to the same restaurant for buffet lunch, excellent choices and never had a problem finding something to eat.Had evening meals in 47 restaurant with waiter service, couldnt fault the menus, evening meals excellent choices and our waiters were superb, nothing too much trouble. Now the entertainment, this was our 20th cruise having been with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and P&O, the entertainment team onboard Marella Discovery 2 were by far the most professional group we have ever seen, so energetic, it made the cruise so special as we like the shows in the evening but this team were in a different league from previous cruises,Thanks for your hard work We visited Jamaica, Grand Cayman,Cuba,Belize,Costa Maya, Cozumel, Guatemala and Honduras. We only did 2 tours, Cuba in an old vintage car, pink Pontiac and was great fun, booked before we left with independent company at half the price. We also did the catamaran and snorkel in Roatan,Honduras, this was through ship and was excellent value. Cozumel lots of shops,Costa maya has a purpose built cruise area and this was fantastic as you could watch the dolphin show, free unless you wanted to swim with them, lots of shopping and even pool bars to swim in. Staff onboard Marella Discovery 2 were always smiling, service was excellent throughout the ship, nothing was too much trouble. I would have no hesitation in going on this cruise again, Marella excelled my expectations Just made extra special by all the shows in the evening, this for me was the highlight of our cruise, cant compliment the evening entertainment team enough. Return flight and check in once again smooth and efficient Read Less

My sister from Canada invited me to go on this Cruise with her friends. The ship was extremely clean. The Shows were awesome. There were many other activities including golf and rock climbing. Every night we enjoyed the entertainment. The stage performances were great. The actors did a wonderful job. I felt as if I was in New York without paying the price for the Broadway show tickets. The crews were outstanding. Food and drinks were delicious and non-stop. I still keep hearing the bell and Mr Spread the love. I met many interesting people. We had great times at Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize and Mexico. I highly recommend this cruise for the perfect sized ship and outstanding crew. It was a peaceful and very enjoyable experience. I definitely will take another trip on the Marella Discovery 2 Ship. I thank the captain for a safe trip and the crew for their hard work and outstanding services. Read Less

The entertainment is fantastic with 4 different venues to choose from and they have a casino. the bars were clean and sold a verity of alcohols from shots to beer to cocktails. the crew are so friendly saying hello and always ready to help really good custom. As first time cruisers we were excited about the prospect of seeing a bit of the med via a family orientated, sparkly new cruise ship. We were disappointed from the start. The welcome was lack lustre and as a result we had no idea where to go or what to do while we waited for our cabin. Our cabin (a junior suite with balcony) was nice until night came. We were directly above the Squid and Anchor “pub” and our bed pulsated until the early hours to the beat of the music downstairs. After much complaining we were moved for our second week. This time to the tenth floor. This room whilst quieter was slightly smaller and had a much bigger problem. Every day, without fail, the toilet would block..... often while we were out..... the shared vacuum system is horrid and I saw over flowing toilets on more than one occasion. The housekeeping staff were fantastic and extremely hard working, some of the bar staff however (coffee port) were pretty miserable. The evening shows were fantastic and a real highlight!!!! The food was good but the selection could have been better, I’ve been on all inclusive holidays with Tui in the past year with much better food selection. Probably my biggest problem with this cruise though was that it is advertised as All Inclusive..... this is not! WiFi is extra and expensive, drinks before 10 are extra, ice cream..... extra. It just feels like they are trying to squeeze money out of you at every opportunity. Please note this ship is not new, it has been revamped, and well, but it is a bit rough around the edges. The gym is run by Champneys and is the best equipped gym I have ever seen in any holiday resort. Some of the classes cost extra. The 45 minute ‘no leave’ sunbed rule is not enforced and finding sun beds on a sea day is very challenging. This is branded as a family cruise ship but as our kids are at private school their summer holidays start 2 weeks before state schools. The first week we were cruising was mostly adults.....OAPs to be exact and there was a distinct feeling the kids were not welcome. The second week was better but I still heard older people joking how there seemed to be a lot of kids skipping school! In conclusion I definitely think I will cruise again but it’s unlikely we will cruise with Tui..... I will be looking for a higher end cruise with less child intolerant fat old people..... if such a thing exists. Read Less

The food was superb; always plenty of choice and always well cooked and presentes. All the crew were very friendly and helpful and the cabin roomy a clean. I’m not sure how they manage to be so happy all the time! The nightly entertainment in the show lounge has converted me to watching musicals. The cast were amazing! Unfortunately the weather meant the itinerary had to be changed for a couple of days and we missed the excursion to Sicily as a result but the 2 others we went on to Pompeii and Rome were well paced and very informative. If there was any downside I’d say that the excursion guide used a radio to communicate with the group through earphones. This sounded distorted or faint and there didn’t seem to be any mid point however, this was a small price to pay for an overall excellent holiday. We moved on to a hotel in Alcúdia for a further weeks stay. Read Less

Where do I even begin, This year I was fortunate enough to experience the best holiday imaginable. I booked my holiday through TUI for a two week carirbean cruise on the Marella Discovery 2. This was my first ever cruise and the price and itenary were incredible. The whole holiday was seemless from booking, to flying to arriving to resort to embark the ship. TUI and Marella staff were always on hand to help. We were greeted with the smiliest faces at Montego Bay where we were checked in and directed to board the Cruise. That night we were instructed and reassured on all safety procedures and given a guided tour of the cruiseship to find our bearings whilst our suitcases were delivered to our cabins. Everynight we recieved an entertainment planner for the days entertainment and events as well as an update on the days port, local information, weather for the day, currencys used and things to do. The cruise was all inclusive and having stayed in many 5* all inclusive hotels around the world the food and drink on the cruise may as well have been 10*. The variety, standard, presentaion and flavour were fantastic. There were many retsuarants to use and the only problem i faced was trying not too eat too much or picking where to eat. The staff on the cruise were the best team of staff i have ever come accross on my holidays. Everyone was so warm and friendly and really helped to personalise your holiday and go out of their way to make it special. In the mornings you would have a wake up announcement from Captain Chris and the Cruise Director Martyn who would start you day off with a lovely update on the weather outside, the port, when you could get off the cruise and overall a lovely start to the day. When you go on shore there are so many different things to see and do to experience the fantastic culture and sights. We always booked out excurions through TUI on the cruise and everything we did added value to our holiiday experience and was unique and great for getting out of the country what we wanted to see, do and experience. We never faced any issues with our cabin and never struggled for size. The cabin was cleaned twice a day and two sets of towels also. We were always left chocolates at night and the cleaners were lovely, always said hello when passing in the corridors. TV channels were fab, plenty of films and programmes to choose from and we loved that there were Marella channels to keep you posted with excursions. We always tried to tune into Cruise Director TV to find out whats been on and whats upcoming chilst on board. The pool on the cruise was a great size and perfect way to cool off on a hot carribean day. There was never any issues with sunbeds as there was deck 9 and deck 10 to lay out on. The entertainment team will keep you entertained with poolside games and quizzes as well as laying back to onboard bands and and talented voices to sing poolside. Waiter service aorund the pool was an added bonus as you didnt even have to move to get a drink. The entertainments show team, actor hosts and family hosts really made our holiday. They were all so friendly and always smiling and laughing. The level of enterainment on the Cruise is one of the most professional, talanted and sought after I have ever seen. The entertainment lounge and gameshows venue were always full and you could see from just looking around all of the guests were constantly happy and enjoying as much as us. A big shout out to the whole team and we really hope we get to see you on furture cruises. Your an assest to Marella and TUI and the way you interact and are constanly around your guests socialising and entertaining is incredible. we dont have children but even seeing the childcare team around the pool helping with quizzes and interacting around the cruise was also amazing to see. All of the staff want to inteact with the guests and really go out of their way to make their holiday. The cruise also has a jogging track, a virtual reality room, casino, climbing wall, minigolf, outdoor cinema, nighclub, shops and full spa just to name a few extras. I would 100% recommend a cruise on the Marella Discovery 2 for the best holiday you can ask for. Read Less

Paradise Islands cruise - St Marteen and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, St Kitts, Antiqua, St Vincent and Barbados. The ship was amazing. It still has the smell of fresh carpets. It is immaculately clean. Hand sanitisers all over too. We were surprised at the number of staff on-board - there is someone to tend to your every need. Getting off the ship and finding something to do is really easy, there are local buses in all of the ports and the islands are easy to see with some imagination - you do not need to take the ships excursions if you do not want to. Try getting hold of the lonely planet for the Caribbean if you want to do more than slob around on deck boozing or explore the port towns. The ship looks like a ship, not a floating hotel. It has a class and elegance that the enormous ships we were parked next to at some ports simply lack. Lovely atmosphere on board! Lovely outdoor decks. So All Inclusive - well we were expecting really basic British buffet boring food - what a surprise though. The two full service sit down restaurants were amazing on reflection. The choice and menus changed, the staff were amazing and the menus really different. Just like a modern bistros really. We were delighted with the quality too. There were a couple of slightly strange dishes, but on the whole we enjoyed everything - we are not fussy and love cooking and eating out. And the waiters were brilliant with fast, keen, attentive service. People forget that these guys are mass catering, and they likely pick up produce once a week in Barbados - so we didn't expect too much, but honestly it was great. The wine (especially the Merlot and Pinot) were perfect. Breakfast specials better than the full English! All inc drinks - branded spirits, lovely cocktails, Corona beer, cava and prosecco - we really did not feel the need to upgrade to the premium package, but if you want to have something nicer its a small supplement of £2.50. Perfect. Bottled water was £1.40 (sparking or still) but there were water stations around the ship to fill up bottles. Better for the environment. Perfect for us, and we bought water locally in supermarkets on the shore too to bring back on board. St Marteen and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands - these are fab islands. You can see through the devastation of Hurricane Irma, you can chat to the locals about their experiences and sympathise with their losses. The Island folk loved having us there and saw that Marella were ethical and responsible in coming back soon. Some folk on board really need to understand that our being there mattered. Biggest problem for us - Some of the other Brits. They love to moan, groan and winge. The cruise was not expensive compared to others, it was most certainly all inc and we were looked after from the moment we checked in at Manchester airport - mollycoddled all the way and home again- you did not have to use your brain once on-board (apart from the quiz!). The level of organisation is remarkable. For example, our bags were checked in at Manchester, and when we landed we boarded a coach straight to the ship from the apron. We did not even clear passport control or immigration. Our bags were by our cabins an hour or so later! Dreamliner flights both ways. Full service long haul airline, bang on time. Perfect. Staff on the boat - Ill say it again, brilliant. Entertainment - varied. if you are bored read a book or chat to someone! We loved the bar on Deck 11 in the eve - so chic! We had a lovely time! Thank you to everyone on board. Read Less

Wow, after all the cruises I have worked on (8) but never been a passenger I can just say you will enjoy the holiday if your a fun easy going person. This cruise was everything I remember cruises to be, yes it is not a new ship, but it is still nice. Arrived at Gatwick and Marella had their own check in desk to Barbados, where you said goodbye to all your large cases which they labelled up with your cabin number on, so you wouldn't see them until about 6pm that day outside your cabin (so pack warm stuff to change into in your hand luggage). Flight Dreamliner was good, after flying years with Ryanair, this was a nice treat as I got pre ordered flight meals and free drinks onboard, TVs on back of the seats with a big range of shows, free headphones too. Arrived on time and Barbados mini busses showed and transferred us to the port which was 30mins. Check in was really quick and literally hand them your debit card, enter pin, and then everything gets charged to that. Photos taken for cruise key too, takes 2 mins then your onboard. You can drink as soon as you get there, ask for Vodka etc if you want not the local stuff it's still free or upgrade to Premium drinks £50 per person. After arriving I booked with Nikota the restaurants as I heard they get booked quickly, she was very helpful or you can book on the kiosks machines around. The Sushi was amazing, best meal for us, but we had to ask for seconds as it was just not enough, he was happy to assist £12 per head. Surf and turf £28 per head was ok, a bit overrated some passengers wanted it every night, but I was happy just the once, however from previous cruises you used to get this in main restaurants and never had to pay. Curry restaurant £23 per head, was ok too staff would make hotter if you wished. Allow 2hrs for each restaurant as they can't rush the service even in the free ones. Kids had a child meal which was nice too. Kids club helped out loads, gave us time to relax, gym, spa etc. They had them daily 9-11, 4-6 and 8-10, so we often let them sleep in day so after the early dinner 6:15 they went kids club for 8pm. They played in the club or they took them to shows front row seats reserved. Entertainment was good, show first night is a must to meet the staff, they had Latin American dancers on too is show first night, then they ware in atrium to dance with the rest of cruise. All dancers were singers too which was ok, but also showed that Marella cuts costs by hiring staff to do both jobs. Cruise director was very funny looking, but funny too. Water had to pay for due to hygiene refilling bottles, whatever Marella. Water is free and they filter this onboard so why the extra cost? £2 per bottle. Pools were great, the sea day was hard to find a bed by pool, but the port days there are plenty. The excursions on board are double what you pay off shore, so if you have time to research before, book before, then you will save lots of money. Gym was pretty small but ok for what I needed. No big excercise classes as the room is small. Spa, booked a £59 on second day which was managers special and it was excellent. Go for the 11am raffle and they give the offer. St Vincent is a tender boat ride to shore which is like a trip alone and you can walk along the coast line to the right, to the princess Margaret beach, about 10 mins with a little climb. Debark day, meet 7-9 in lounge with all the paperwork and my husband queued for 10 mins at 7:45, so that was good. You can leave all hand luggage in the lounge which is labelled and secure, the night before all big suitcases needed to be outside by 1am. Hope this helps you anyway. Read Less

We've been on many cruises with different cruise lines before, but we chose this one because we took one of our children's families on a Thomson's Cruise last year and were very impressed, and the timing was ideal as other child care duties were becoming slightly less pressing. We are not yet convinced by the freedom dining concept which means you don't easily build up contacts with staff and fellow travellers, and we felt that there was some evident cost trimming which meant that staff seemed more hard-pressed. We weren't sorry to lose some of the fringe activities like the chocolate festivals and ice-carving and we felt that fewer invited performers improved our entertainment enjoyment, because the young, 'resident' cast was excellent. TUI's general co-ordination was generally up to the level we experienced last year, but communications regarding the possible impact of the recent hurricanes was not ideal. We were surprised that passengers had to pay to join a passengers' choir. However, the food, service and entertainment were excellent, and the ship and our cabin were maintained meticulously. We couldn't have had kinder, more obliging cabin stewards than Milos and Ganna. The value, given the all-inclusive tariff and the fact that general gratuities were included, was outstanding. We liked the medium size of the ship and the show lounge and walking track in particular. The first time in the Eastern Caribbean and the weather was excellent. I found the islands fascinating and attractive in an uncoordinated way, my wife found them disorganised, impoverished, and sometimes intimidating. Most of the local people were charming. The destinations staff could have devoted a little time in their talks to advising those who who were going ashore on foot. Read Less

Holiday Review of Thompson (TUI) Marella Discovery 2 Canary islands for one week from 20th October 2017 taken to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary We do not normally write reviews and would not have done so now had our complaint been dealt with reasonably by TUI the final straw came yesterday when their Senior customer services advisor directors team ANGELA told us that the complaint was closed and the £60 compensation was all we were going to get, to summarise as the issues were not TUI,s problems. See what you think was £60 compensation ok for the following holiday experience? By the way we cancelled the next cruise today and will NEVER cruise with TUI ships again. We arrived on the boat at approx 2 PM and the room was not ready, when the check out time is 8AM. We got back to the room and found it made up wirth two single beds when we had requested on booking the holiday a double bed, we went to reception and they said it would be dealt with by the cabin crew later. We returned to the room after an evening meal and the bed was still two singles we went again to reception to try to resolve the situation, the beds were finally made in to a double at approx 10 PM, when we had been travelling all day were exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep. On the following night we were woken in the early hours of the morning by a loud intermittent banging under our starboard side level two out side cabin, the noise continued and at 2.45 AM we complained over the phone to reception, one of the receptionists came down and spoke to us and agreed that the level of the noise was unacceptable and that she would try to find out what was causing it and what could be done about it. We were given various excuses ranging from work going on to something loose in the hold and finally bad weather, at 3.30AM we had had enough and contacted reception again, this time were met in our room and escorted to an interior cabin, with two single beds which we were happy to have, just to get some sleep given that we were now totally exhausted. The issue was not resolved to our satisfaction given that we were told we could continue to use the interior cabin to sleep! When we had paid for a window to wake in the morning being able to see day light and enjoy the view. At 6PM the following day the noise started again this time we went directly to reception and were met by a member of the reception team who was to say the least condescending. We eventually got moved up a deck to the third level port side which was again an outside cabin with a window. The receptionist said “the noise was due to the weather and do not complain to me if you are again disturbed by splashes in your new cabin” we could not believe her attitude! We were made to feel that we should not complain about not being able to sleep while on holiday. Having cruised on both Princess and Royal Caribbean cruises whose level of service was exceptional we thought that the level of service on the Discovery II would be the same as the TUI Spirit ship which we have also been on, this was defiantly not the case. We had booked two trips one being a bike ride with Kyle who was a lovely chap in-fact the ride was basically him and the two of us, he gave us a good day out, the second trip the Navarda walk was however cancelled and the notification of this was via a note under the door this may have been acceptable if nothing else had been a problem but in the circumstances we expected to be given the bad news personally, again very poor customer service. The cancelling notification said we would receive a refund, however we have not at the time of writing received anything. The food on board was disappointing with little variety for example the salads had grated carrot and iceberg lettuce etc however no olives or radishes or cellery or beetroot, at breakfast no black pudding, all of which was available on the TUI Spirit cruise which we went on in April 2017. I had asked for olives and was told they were only available at the bar with a gin and tonic? On complaining by filling in a customer survey, the food improved and a variety of different salad items appeared including olives and fennel. This improvement seems to have been initiated by other people also complaining which resulted in a lot of management people being personally present in the buffet restaurant over the last two days. The shows we found for the week we were on the ship were good however we spoke to a passenger who had been on the ship for two weeks and were told the shows were the same for the second week. Foolishly before we went on the Discovery II we booked to go again on the same ship to the Baltics in August 2018. We know that there is a name change due for the ship we now know feel that we know why. Read Less

This was my second cruise with Thomson, first the Dream 5 years ago and I took some persuading to go on this and I really did not want to leave the ship! Got to the ship at about 11.30am, embarkation was smooth and easy going. Ship compared to the Dream is amazing, we had chosen out aft cabin before we left and were not at all disappointed with this, having our 17 year old son with us there was more than enough room for us all. Bags emptied and put away and nothing left lying. Lots of little cubby holes to stash everything. Nice touch of the Clarins toiletries in the bathroom, kettle and coffee machine also. Sooooooooooooo much to eat and drink, we did not pay the extra to visit the two paying eateries as there was lots of choice. Drinks..........to much. lol There was always something going on whether it be a quiz, or film under the stars, in the show lounge or live music. There was a climbing wall, putting, an escape room, childrens clubs, swimming pools, hot tubs. The ports we stopped off at were really good, we did two trips one to Herculaneum and to Monaco. I would highly recommend this ship to anyone. During the cruise we were docked beside far far larger ships and I just hated the look of them as they just looked to me like floating flats. Albeit I have not been on one and it may be different. Read Less

This was our second time cruising and we were celebrating my 60th birthday and our silver wedding anniversary. We flew from Manchester to Malaga and once boarded, we decided to stay and explore the ship and rest up. The ship was very clean, our cabins were cleaned twice daily by very friendly cabin staff who made us feel like it was home from home. The food was plentiful and delicious (I'm sure I gained weight) and we made lots of friends. As part of our celebrations, we were invited to dine at the captains table with other guests, a most enjoyable occasion. We paid extra for a photo shoot, a celebration package, which included flowers, Champaign, basket of fruit and of course a cake. A truly memorable occasion I highly recommend the spa treatment, it was fantastic. Everyone on board made you feel special, however, having requested an outside cabin with a queen size bed, we in fact got two single beds at opposite side of the cabin. We are now taking this up with the travel agency who made the booking. in spite of this, we enjoyed our cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it was a back to back (Cuban Fusion and Mayan Treasures) both of which we loved the itinerary of. The dream is a lovely old girl and stands up to the test of time beautifully. we chose Thomson because of the All-Inclusive nature of the package. It was great to check in our cases at Birmingham and not have to worry about them again, as they'd be delivered to our cabin door. Our cabin was an outside plus (Mid-Ships, Deck 9) and was lovely. plenty of room, for clothes and our cases stored neatly behind the settee. Bed was made up into a double and was one of the most comfortable we'd ever slept in on a holiday. Our housekeeper Cristina looked after us with an excellent service. All the staff were some of the most helpful we've ever come across and are a credit to Thomson, The Dream and her Captain. Food was always a treat and there was something for everyone. We did however really really enjoy the "Kora La" Asian Cuisine restaurant. the food was to die for and of sizable portions too. The entertainment was plentiful, varied and of an excellent standard. our twice daily Captain's update was one of our highlights' as he made his announcements amusing. I could go on and on about our experience aboard the Dream, however I won't. All I'll say is try her yourself. you wont be disappointed !!! Read Less

Just returned, 24/09/16 to 01/10/16 from our Mediterranean cruise aboard 'Tui Discovery', Thomson's latest cruise liner acquisition, flew to Palma De Mallorca, where we embarked our ship, embarkation was fairly smooth although we did arrive at the ship's gangway without our passes being validated, though this was a simple process it did mean returning through the queue we had just vacated, it may be worth mentioning at this stage that 'Tui' runs a cashless ship system and that the ship's currency is in : GBP Pounds Stirling, although we had time to explore the departure city, [midnight sailing] we chose instead to explore the ship, our cabin N0.2577 Deck 2 nicely fitted out, plenty of storage for 2 people, complete with hairdryer, kettle, television, safe, and daily supply of tea bags, milk, and coffee, only downside really the shower cubicle could have been a little larger and a fridge would have been nice, however we felt the cabin adequate for our needs. The ship has a modern design and decoration throughout, floors and carpets are spotless, however the first one thing you notice is how friendly the ship's crew and staff are at any time of day, the ship itself has many bars and restaurants, with the later almost in double figures, 2 of them incur a small surcharge, though all serve the most superb food dishes, our favorites were the Island restaurant, self-service with so much choice, 47 degrees, and 47 gallery, for the wife and I the food and service was 10/10. Entertainment another 10/10, different themes every night with 2 shows, and a weekly guest comedian, in our case 'Andre' who was excellent throughout his 2 shows, and not one swear word, highlight for me was Wednesday when they had a legends theme, they played David Bowie's 'Space Odyssey' with spacemen coming up through the stage floor, and the pyrotechnics bellowing out everywhere, brilliant, fantastic tribute. Shore excursions whilst not cheap are a must if you wish to see places of interest, or enlarge upon your knowledge of a certain town or city, we did 2 in all, the 'Godfather Villages' and 'Herculaneum', both were fascinating in their own right, with the villages tour we even met the actress who played 'Michael's [Al Pacino] Mother-in-law, she had a photo still taken at the time, amazing, Herculaneum, unlike Pompeii was covered mainly in silt and mud and so well preserved, as are the mosaics, all in all a great holiday, we chose the holiday mainly for the places of interest itinerary, however this ship really is a class above others, especially in food and entertainment. Finally I really must mention the cabin stewards, who carried out their daily and nightly duties, all went down so well, as did the chocolates they left on our pillows. Happy Holidays and Thank you for reading. Read Less

Just back from our cruise on the Discovery. Myself and my husband thoroughly enjoyed out trip. The staff where amazing though i did come across a male member from the cleaning section on deck 9 who was rude to me because i spilled a drink, but i didn't let this annoy me. We thought the food was great and the shows where amazing, the singers and dancers where absolutely fantastic, however i felt Justin was brilliant at the game shows, far better than the other members of the team. i would definitely recommend this ship. Staff do their best to help and make your holiday as relaxing as they possibly can, the staff members i felt helped us make our holiday were Callum and Boshjan the bike guides, we went on 8 cycling trips with them and they were amazing i would give the boys 10 out of 10. Denys the bar waiter was so nice unfortunately we didn't get a chance to say goodbye to him on the last night as he was and busy and must have been called away to another bar, but he was such a nice guy. We are looking to book next year for the Caribbean and i hope they staff above are on the ship. Read Less

This was actually an ADRIATIC cruise, which we booked because we wanted to see the Adriatic Coast, and especially Croatia, but didn't want to spend a week at the destinations. We were blown away by the incredible value of a Thomson Cruise. We had never cruised before, but always assumed it was a little cliche and camp, and probably full of blue rinse people quaffing cheap champagne, poor quality all-you-can-eat food and terrible cabaret entertainment. In fact, this was far from the truth. The entertainment was of a high standard and exceptionally varied; ranging from high London Quality theatrical productions and musicals each night in the large theatre, a wide array of decent musicians playing music from most genres, a cabaret area, discos, themed and cabaret entertainment like Quiz and Karaoke, if you wanted it (we didn't), and a fantastic Kids' Club. We didn't want to put our daughter into Kids Club initially, but she had other ideas by day 3 when she'd made friends and was desperate to join the ranks of the other children. She was desperate to spend her evenings with the other children doing the varied fun activities, which meant that we had quality time together as a couple to enjoy fine dining and bands, or a show. It was a real treat. As a parent of a teenagers (who didn't come with us) I was also really impressed by the teen club. This was aimed more at the 15-18 group, but I ofen feel this group is very under catered to. Their activities and games reminded me of slightly more tame versions of club 18-30s entertainment, but definitely hit the right note with the teens, and was also amusing for the adults to watch. The excursions were all brilliant, and they ensured that they graded each one for activity level, adventure, etc, which was really useful as we like to be active, and so we avoided the ones that were too inactive. They also ensured that people who booked excursions got the earliest boats ashore, and maximised shore time when they didn't have a gangway-so it's worth booking with Thomson to ensure that you make the most of your restricted shore time. We upgraded to the drinks package, which gave us all inclusive drinks. This was useful for my partner, who enjoys a drink without suffering too much the next day, but I cannot cope with a drinking session followed by an early morning, so I think my use of it was more limited. The food was brilliant... Although the queuing system in the Lido Restaurant was terrible, and could benefit from separating the queues for different sections of the restaurant, rather than one epic queue for everything. There was a wide array of dining options including a lovey a la Carte Asian fusion, another a la carte with a tasting menu, and a hot stone restaurant where you could eat a steak that you cooked at the table. We ate Surf and turf at the latter two-highly recommended. There were three standard inclusive restaurants, two were buffets: the Lido & Sirens (although Sirens wasn't open for dinner) and the other; Orions, was a waiter service restaurant, which was our preference of the three, unless you were in a hurry. There were two pool areas on the ship. The one of the top of the ship in the Centre was meant to be the adult only pool, but seemed to be family friendly too by day. It was definitely the livelier pool, and had live music by day and a dedicated super comfy looking sun longer deck above at the rear which we didn't spot until a few days before the end of the cruise. The one at the aft of the ship, which in my opinion was nicer, was the intended family pool. The staff were amazing-the crew seem to be predominantly Filipino, and really know how to look after the passengers to a very high standard, and ALWAYS with a smile on their face. The entertainment crew seem to be 100% British, with the exception of a couple of the musicians, and were absolutely fantastic, as were the Kids Club crew. We loved the fact that it wasn't too formal. There was one black tie night, but it wasn't compulsory, otherwise there were options to really dress up, but you could also easily go casual or smart casual. I quite like dressing up, but my partner hates black tie-so this was perfect for us. We booked into a suite, because there were three of us, and I have to say that it was LOVELY. Really a treat compared to the other rooms-which we used for a late check out because ours was unavailable. I am trying to find something I can criticise, but it's incredibly hard to find fault. I thought I'd just be ticking this cruise thing off the list to be honest-but it's addictive. You are on a palatial, floating hotel that caters to every need, with a stunning new exciting place to discover each morning! If you re hesitating about whether to try this-JUST DO IT! The holiday was pretty full on-not overly relaxing if you're doing a week, as there is so much to see and do-and we didn't want to miss out on any of the places we were visiting. As such-If you can afford to take the extra week-I'd recommend booking the extra cost effective week at your final port destination at the booking stage if you get the chance-as you can then recover and chill instead of stepping straight on a plane home, like we did.
