Recommended by travel agent as smaller, more intimate ship for our first cruise. We upgraded at a further cost of £394 to a deluxe cabin as I’m a bit claustrophobic. On an all inclusive basis. (Turns out that it’s not fully inclusive and you can pay a further supplement for premium all inclusive! What a rip off)! Cabin layout was fine but the large bed was two twins, joined together and mattresses rock hard. Pillows inside cases weren’t very clean. Cabin steward worked very hard so no complaints about general cleanliness of the cabin, although decor is slightly dated. Our main problem was location of cabin! When booking, we were advised by tui that no deluxe cabins were available on decks 6 or 8 so we thought we’d be obviously be on deck 7. Upon arrival, we were directed to cabin 236 on deck 6 which was the first cabin through the doors from the broadway show lounge!! The shows didn’t generally finish until after 11.30pm and the noise during the shows was terrible. When passengers later headed back to their own cabins, not many spared a thought for anyone sleeping and were extremely noisy passing by our door. Needless to say we got very little sleep during the trip. We couldn’t even have a nap on an afternoon as the entertainment team rehearsed!! (I use that term lightly too!) Very amateur productions to say the least! Upon complaining to reception about the noise, we were told it was out of their control if guests were noisy late at night and ship was full so we couldn’t be moved. They didn’t appear sympathetic at all! Ship is very shabby and at best I would say similar to a 2-3 star hotel. Food in the buffet Lido restaurant was awful. Overcooked vegetables (frozen), tough unseasoned meat, dirty crockery, instant custard with dry puddings, tinned fruit, need I go on? The meridian restaurant tried harder and it was smart dress with waiter service. Staff were attentive and wine / water glasses always topped up. We almost always had to wait for a table (around ten mins) as I refused to share a table with fellow passengers. Why would I want to share with strangers?? (Linen tablecloths and napkins always clean but again the food was such a let down. Meat tough, lobster tail ruined by overlooking and vegetables stewed to death! I ordered turkey with the trimmings one night and the chipolata sausage was totally raw as was the roasted potato. Upon mentioning it to the waiter, he took my plate away and returned to say the chef agreed with my view! Someone could have had a nasty tummy upset if it had been consumed. We did use the spa onboard and must commend Harry on his fantastic hot stone massage. 2 intense, the singers in the Horizons bar were also very good but their show was interrupted on one occasion by a very drunken passenger! I agree with other reviews that the ship is well past it’s sell by date and should be out of commission and felt that tui couldn’t care about the enjoyment and quality of your holiday once they had your money. It was like Butlins at sea!! Never again will Tui take money from me. Read Less

The ship is extremely dated and very shabby indeed. Its in a total need of refurbishment. Its such a mismatch. The vibration of the ship was terrible to the point where ladies earrings were swinging and glasses were shacking on the tables. Windows in the Lido Restaurant/buffet were extremely bad, very dirty and patched up where they needed mending......I could go on but I would be writing forever. Me and my friend were in a balcony cabin. However on day 2 of the cruise there was squeaking from two different areas of the ceiling. TUI obviously knew about this as there was bits of wood jammed between the ceiling and the wardrobe to stop the noise.. When I complained about this, they tried to say that I was the first to ever complain about the noise! Cabin was clean but extremely dated. Lots of wardrobe space. It was an OK size room. Lido - This was the buffet - I am a bit picky when it comes to food and to me it was substandard. Waiter Service Restaurant (Included in price) - Cant remember the name of this restaurant but it is on deck 4 - Waiters are in total confusion when its busy. Its certainly not silver service. On different occasions but each time eating at this restaurant there was always something wrong. For example, wine stained table cloths, water not given until half way through our food, Alcohol was the same, we were seated with no cutlery or if we were lucky some of the cutlery were present. Food was a bit hit and miss but it was OK for the price point. Marella/TUI are nowhere near close to food that I have eaten on other cruises. I suppose you get what you pay for. We only saw one show in the evening and that was enough, just a bit armature. The disco played the same music most nights. It was just recordings and no DJ. Service/Customer service on the ship was atrocious especially when you had a complaint. The reception/excursion staff try and make you feel that you are the problem. As mentioned above the cabin was squeaking and it was so loud that it was impossible to sleep. I had to request for someone to come to the room three times on three different days. When I had enough I complained to the reception and they then said they didn't have a record of my complaint and therefore I could not have complained.....Now is that Customer Service? The cruise itinerary had to be reversed due to weather and this did upset me as arranged meeting a friend in Malta. However I understand that due to weather etc itineraries would be changed but I was told by a member of staff at the reception desk that it was due to bigger ships paying more money to dock at certain locations and because the ship couldn't pay as much we were at the back of the queue! We went on two excursions one in Montenegro which was fine and worth the money and the other one in Sicily which would have been good value but wasn't. I understand that when you book excursions on the ship it is tough luck if you get bad weather. Well let me say the weather in Sicily was so bad, torrential rain , thunder and lightening. The local guide said that the ship said that the weather was going to be fine! Now with all that sophisticated machinery on the ship, is this really true? Anyway that's not the end of it. The guide stood outside a church shouting at the top of her voice in the rain thunder and lightening while a family were mourning taking a coffin out of a hearse. I asked her to stop but she wouldn't. Other people in our group were extremely embarrassed and either walked away or turned their back. By this time I was raging when I got back to the ship and the reply I got back from the manager of excursions was, wait for it........Other countries do not have the same traditions we have in the UK!!!! If that's not disrespectful, what is! I also wanted to comment that due to the adverse weather conditions that we should not have been climbing uphill due to the strong lightening strikes. She just said "You signed the booking form" Surely TUI have a duty of care to their customers. I just felt yet again that they put the fault back on us. Just one more thing, the tour guide wore sunglasses all the way through the tour, which was rude and even through we were in a bad storm. Plus no-one could understand her accent. Well as you can see we had two issues and it took six days to finally sort out. We received £250.00 in total off our onboard spend. Considering we were in a balcony cabin and we only got back 50% of our tour, I think it was unreasonable, especially having to chase them up everyday. So really we only had 1 night/day without hassle out of 7. We didn't bother with the drinks package as we like to drink branded alcohol and not the local stuff. Well I can honestly say that the Barcardi is really watered down. It was around £12.00 inclusive for two Barcardi and cokes, that's expensive for watered down drinks. I would like to see if TUI will reply to this. Lets see if they care! Read Less

An expensive upgrade to a balcony cabin, first impressions was the damp and stained bedding, from mattress protector to sheets and pillows. Cabin very dated, shower curtain (why) with many occasions standing waiting for water to come through, towels never looked clean and were rough to touch. When sitting anywhere on the ship to lying down there was constant vibrations from the engines and as we were on deck 9 it must have been hell for the lower decks. Food was okay, the lido restaurant just reminded me of the school canteen and even in the Al a carte restaurant my breakfast order was forgotten. Other restaurants were fine but they would be as you had to pay extra to use them. Not sure how often the pools were cleaned but there was often yellow scum floating on the surface with missing tiles and generally in need of major repairs. We had to throw away a bikini and swim shorts due to them being stained yellow from the pool. The sun loungers were dirty and torn. The entertainment was cheesy and boring due to the same show most evening which was just singing and dancing by the same guys. This ship is tired and in my opinion needs to be scrapped, it would be nice if TUI or Marella would contact with me as I have tried on many occasions to contact them regarding my expensive and very disappointing cruise. This was our first cruise and considering this terrible experience we would never cruise again. Read Less

The Cruise was meant to be a 5 star cruise. What a joke. The room had light fittings that did not work, the shower flooded, the "entertainment" was totally rubbish - the only thing funny about the comedian was leaving the room. The main restaurant expected you to queue for 30 minutes before being seated and you were served drinks sporadically. That brings me on to my main gripe - paying before going on board for a drinks package. We paid before going on board and then found that the majority of both non alcoholic and alcoholic drinks were not included in the drinks package. Similarly, don't think the food is included in your all inclusive package. There are additional charges for many meals including steak. They give you a card and bill as they go, so you end the holiday with a credit card bill which they automatically debit. Now for the offshore trips. I was travelling with a disabled passenger and only booked excursions where little walking was involved. Not only did each trip involve substantial walking and steps, Thomson even had the cheek to change our excursion from Venice (While docked in Venice) to Verona in Italy even though we pre-paid the trips in the UK. I thought this was a one off mistake, until I learned on the bus to Verona that this had also happened to 10 other couples. We each received our tickets in the room, with no explanation and had not realised the deliberate Thompson mistake until we were given the ultimatum - "Go to Verona, or loose your money and stay on the ship". No apology given. To top it off, it was a walking trip, where I warned the lady that my partner could not walk, only for the condescending donkey to single her out at each opportunity and make her feel awkward and uncomfortable. Overall, if you want a terrible trip, book this. However, if you still think it's 1970 and want to burn yourself to a crisp in lard and not go on any excursions, you will be in good company with your Butlin friends, so long as you have the right colour towel (this is based on how much you paid - cruise towels only) and rush to the deck at 6am to reserve your burning bed - You won't find Germans - They have taste. I'M NEVER TRAVELLING TUI AGAIN. Even their planes are from the dark age and the service is considerably better on Ryanair and Easyjet. I've just travelled with Qantas and the cabin crew, service and aircraft are second to none unlike the rubbish Thomson offering. Don't expect food on your flight or a 1980's wet blanket. As for entertainment, that'll depend on your cabin crew arguing. Read Less

My husband and I have been used to sailing on large ships but thought we would go on the Celebration for a change of destinations etc. We joined the ship in Dubrovnik. As we embarked I could smell something like musty books, it wasn't a very pleasant smell at all. We were taken to our cabin and as soon as I entered my heart dropped. It was hot, the carpet looked filthy as in old looking. We had been told in the Thomson shop the plugs were English, NOT they were American. There was no fridge, the air con did not work, it was making all the right noises but nothing was happening. I looked in the bathroom and the towels were to say the least grey white. The port hole looked like it was just about ready to drop out with rusty marks on it. The cabin steward knocked on the door and was good enough to go and get a huge fan, an adaptor for the plug and an ice bucket full of ice which he changed twice a day. I had medication cream which was supposed to be kept in the fridge , nothing I could do about it, the offer was to take it to reception and fetch it every time I wanted it... what? I would have thought that in this day and age, all cabins should have a fridge. The floor was hot because were were on deck 1 cabin 905 which is what I would imagine hell to be so, not only did we have the noise of the air conditioner even though it didn't work but we had the noise of a fan too whiring and clunking. We went down to the cabin one day and the whold of deck 1 smelled of petrol/engine fumes, I did report it to reception and it was rectified but surely this should not happen at all. There was something outside the cabin on the outside of the ship which was constantly clanging on the side of the ship. The lamps above the bed on the wall rattled, well mine did. There was a rumbling sound from the engine 24/7 and when the ship was stationary the vibration through the whole of the ship was unbelievable. I will even say that, because the carpet looked so dirty, when I had a shower I put my shoes outside the bathroom so I could step into them because I didn't want to put my feet on the carpet. I believe this ship had been "done up" late last year. All I could say is goodness knows what it was like before, I would love to know. In fairness, our steward was lovely and worked hard, also the waiters in the restaurant were great. It seems to me though, Thomsons wants money money money, there was an elderly couple on our table one night who had been on the ship before and the gent said how Thomsons are doing more "money money money" grabbing, the new so called Asian restaurant is one in which they charge. There are lots of things on this ship which you have to pay for. The entertainment wasn't bad but nothing out of this world, we have been on cruises with other companies and they had different entertainers on all week, although I am sure, they entertainment group work hard, I think its a case of cheapness, not having to bring in outside entertainers. Now, on to the excursions. Because I only have 1/3 of one of my lungs, I find it hard to do a lot of fast walking and hills etc. We booked a tour Istrian Hilltops Jewels. It said nothing of walking uphill, we had a run around in the coach and then taken to a dusty road where we were hearded into a rattling hot bus with no air con, we were then "dropped off" and were taken up a huge slope of a road made of cobbles, dusty, and uneven. Nothing of this was mentioned in the ad for the tour, this is why I booked it. I could go on and on and on, there is so much I could say I would be here for another couple of hours. Would I go on this ship again, NO WAY, WOULD I GO WITH THOMSONS AGAIN? NEVER. Read Less

My wife and myself went on a 2 week cruise aboard the above named ship and prior to going upgraded to a superior room at a cost of almost £700.00. When we arrived on board we didn't even have a double bed. The ship is in dire need of a makeover, the pools (if you could call them that) were closed for almost the entire duration of the cruise. The entertainment was very poor and at best amateurish. This was our first time on a TUI cruise and it will be our last. The food was nice most of the time but there seemed to be a significant wait every evening if you wanted to dine in the restaurant. We had 3 or 4 days of poor weather in the first week and there was very little to do, you would have thought there would have been some activities in place for when the weather was poor. Read Less

So many basic errors and a lack of understanding what cruisers expect. Obvious frozen veg straight out of a packet. Packet gravy. Braised beef hard and dry. Coq au vin not cooked in the totally unrelated sauce. Fruit salad straight from the tin served as stewed fruit compot. The lobster highlight was dry, over cooked and tasteless. Appalling waste of good produce. Fish nearly always flaccid and with no discernible flavour. Best meal was lamb shank local pub style. One sweet served in a badly buckled stemmed dish. Obvious no one is overseeing what is coming out of the kitchen or understands what we expect. Feel I am being taken for a simpleton and being insulted by the offer of an upgraded meal (standard on any cruise line) at extra cost. Staff great. Cabin clean but no fridge. Some good entertainment but some screeching singers. Overaul third rate. Booked for an excellent itinerary pity about the rest. Tui wake up and get a grip. Will only consider Tui for land based holidays in future. Read Less

this is my second trip on the celebration and I must say she is looking very tired, we was disappointed with the state of the pool area and pool with tiles falling off. The food was often cold and lacked flavour or choices. Again paying extra for a steak which they got wrong. Our cabin was 303 which was noisy with broken draws, shower and air-conditioning, had to have a fan put in the cramped room. There was a lot less staff on the boat so around the pool area stations was not manned. Tui now have a premium drinks package which is pushed during the first few days, many of the wines have now been taken off the standard all-inclusive, again disappointing okay if you drink housewine. Ship had a new entertainment team which I found was not that great there voices not really blending, we also had a mediocre comedian very old school. Read Less

Overall managerial staff are poor, trained to say one thing - don't let it ruin your holiday ! But don't sort the issues. Celebration is getting tired. Don't like to moan but expect more from tui, waiters and cabin staff all lovely as usual . Coffee port was lovely and our haven on board. Mistrals restuarant was lovely but an added extra. We chose this cruise purely because of the itinerary. It had some of the destinations that we had never visited before. The Croatian destinations were brilliant and well worth a return. However the Celebration failed to live up to the itinerary. The ship is very old and definitely showing signs of its age. Checking in process was poor and entailed a lengthy queue around the main dining restaurant as in there is no central atrium. In places I would describe it as "filthy", especially the sun beds and "Bali beds". There should be replaced immediately as they are absolutely manky. The dining tables on the lido deck are significantly higher than the chairs and make you feel like an infant at the table. The rattan design of these is falling apart on some of the chairs. In Hemingways it is cold and again the seating is falling apart in places. The service is patchy and with a few exceptions, the bar waiters are rude and will often overlook guests requests. Matson was a breath of fresh ar in comparison to many of the others. The all inclusive package is a lie. There are 146 supplement charges out of the 236 drinks available on the bar menu. Some of these beggar belief. If you order a 200ml soft drink it is in your drinks package, but there is a supplement charge for a 300ml drink of the same kind. Easy to get round by ordering two of the smaller drinks but nonsensical nevertheless. You get letters threatening you with charges if you lose this or if you misplace that. There is a £25 charge for the use of the "safe" in your cabin. Surely this is a standard you would not expect to have to pay for. Not exactly what you expect for the price. Food is plentiful but not a massive amount of variety. Yet again there are supplement charges if you want a steak or a lamb cutlet. The company appear to be trying to penny pinch everywhere. Tours available were reasonably priced but can be done cheaper on your own if you have the courage to "go for it". On a positive note the entertainment is really good and the talents of those that are in the show team truly deserve to be presenting their trade on a ship that reflects their talent. They go above and beyond what I have seen from an an entertainment team on any cruise line that I have travelled with. Becky has a fantastic vocal range and does a solo performance of high quality late one evening. Their rendition of Les Miserables was brilliant. If this was my first cruise experience it would have put me off for good and therefore I would recommend other other companies way before Thomson and often at a cheaper price. Very expensive for what was provided. Read Less

We booked as a last minute decision because the itinerary looked interesting. Outbound all good and arrived in our cabin about 2 hours before our luggage which we dropped at airport. Ship is tired. Engine vibrates the whole ship all the time. Wooden decking very worn and patchy. Carpets threadbare. In the cabin the bathroom had been refurbished and was good but cramped. The rest of the cabin was dated and frankly patched together. It was however kept very clean and the beds were comfy. Food was nothing special. If you like plain English fare then you'll be fine. If you want to try some local cuisine from the area you're in forget it. The Lido buffet was a little repetitive and very similar food was offered downstairs in the main dining room. Some items on the main dining room menu carried a surcharge. This was a first for me and this is my fifth cruise ( first with Thomson). It was also a sign of the way Thomson always seem to be trying to get you to spend more money. Specialty restaurant was good with good service. Wine list poor though. Bars on board are generally ok but there are not enough staff on duty. A pre-dinner drink in Hemmingways took 17 mins to be served and in Horizons I was refused service at the bar and told to take a seat and wait to be served. Unfortunately it was quite busy and there was only one waitress on duty. We left empty handed after 20 mins. We had an All Inclusive package but it isn't really all inclusive. It should be called the "cheapest alcohol available" deal as most of the premium brands and more unusual drinks carry a surcharge. There is a wine package available but of the limited choice available I felt there was nothing I would normally purchase. Wine by the bottle also had a very limited choice. Staff were OK but too often they would retreat to the corners/dirty dishes area for a laugh and a chat. I have no problems with that but they also need to keep an eye on their customers in case they need something. Entertainment was the same group doing a different style of show every night. No new entertainers joined except a comedian who was chucking out old jokes before he spent the rest of the night hogging the roulette table. Overall, it was a it like an average 3 star hotel on a vibrating platform with a Tui hand asking for more money. In comparison to other cruise lines it's below average but so is the price. Is it value for money? You get what you pay for so don't expect too much. Would I recommend the Celebration. No, and I won't be travelling on any other Tui cruise anytime soon. Read Less

First time on celebration, choose it because of itinary. Good flights, fab easy transfer and check in onboard. However when we got to cabin, disappointed at age and standard of cabin. Although it was clean it was very very dated. We were well looked after for two weeks by our stateoom attendant Desmond. Went on deck to take look around, sat by pool and second shock was wTching people's bodies wobble as they laid on sunbed with vibration from ship and she wasn't even sailing.! Food acceptable, staff very pleasant, but some things again disappointing. We had to wait on several nights for table for two in main dining room, yet often when we were in dining room we could see tables for two empyty, we soon discovered that tables were being saved and we found this to be totally unfair, why have open seating and then allow tables to be saved. We then saw it happen all time, same people in same seats whilst others were told no tables free and having to wait outside....very very unfair and not true to open dining. Entertainment was ok but hit and miss, some good shows but others like car wash waste of time. Yet Eliza Doolittle brilliant. We would not return to the ship or recommend, it's too old too dated, too noisy, very bad vibration and cruising not a patch on other cruise lines. There was also outbreak of norovirus onboard in our second week, although staff did their best it wasn't good enough, lack of direction from management, felt no consistency, sometimes staff giving you tea/coffee other times you helped yourself, same with condiments, sometimes bottles of Ho left out so you helped yourself other times someone there dishing sauce out. Poor control of virus, on my return discovered norovirus been onboard several times. Ship ran aground as we left Albania, and today discovered ship had engine failure in Malta, have to say not surprised I have never heard such noisy, clunky engine. We met some lovely staff they are credit to Thomson. Saw some lovely ports of call, but overall the feeling of shabbiness too much for us, soot all over tables and chairs on deck, threadbare carpet on stairs, not the quality of cruising we are used to. Price if Thomson cruises in no way is good value compared to other cruise lines, my advice shop around. We have travelled a lot, cruise 3 times a year, Thomson overpriced and poor quality in comparison. Sorry Thomson! Read Less

My old dad who was in the royal and merchant navy would have described this as an old rust bucket. It looks old and dated and it is. Thomson are clever with their words by saying how long they have had it but its over 30 years old. It shakes and rattles even in port, to the point we had to wedge all the doors inside the cabin. The cruise itself i.e. Destinations was fine although some of the excursions were a bit laboured. The staff were very good and friendly also the food was good but the main restaurant was a bit like a works canteen. We were in the most expensive suite and that was only just big enough. We also had the inclusive drinks package but when on board was talked in to buying an upgrade. Unbelievable this didn't include fresh orange juice (only after 10.30). This was a cruise around the Adriatic with excellent ports stops. Most easily walkable if you were not doing ships excursions. The Celebration is very popular with the UK market but I found it to be way way out of date. Its a very old ship that is constantly painted to cover the rust. The outside decks have dreadful stairs to negotiate and by the number of passengers with bandaged legs looks like some have accidents. The cabin are very small and very dark and old fashioned. Small beds, and dark and depressing. The shower area has an absolutely dire shower curtain and its pretty difficult to stop water going onto floor. Most of the ship is over air conditioned meaning that you ate quickly or took food outside to get away from it. Not sure how good this cruise is for staff as our cabin steward was constantly behind his peers and he begged us at the end of the cruise to give him a good review. Very uncomfortable about hours they appear to work and conditions they work under that it actually detracted further from our holiday. The staff are excellent and a credit to the ship, always cheerful despite the long long time away from their families. Embarkation was really rapid and we only went on two excursions. Both reminded how bad they could be. We prefer to do things ourself. Tendered twice and found these vessels really smelly and not something you would look forward to. Would hate to abandon ship into one of these lifeboats! Food was excellent and plentiful however very unimaginative! Well cooked but a tad boring always a roast and veg. It caters for the people who go on Thomsons cruises, its what they expect and like. Its testimony to the success of this old ship. Entertainment is more My Fair Lady oldies etc. Not very original and again a safe option. The only entertainment that I really liked was the comedian he was very entertaining , in fact , this was the only show that we watched. The rest we left early. We booked the cruise for the stops on the Adriatic as they are truly special, however this ship was exactly what I expected and not too my taste. It does have a loyal following but in my opinion its overpriced and under delivers. Some loyal cruisers should try a more modern larger ship and see the difference. I summary a Thomson cruise is not for me. Read Less

This is the third or fourth time we have been on the Celebration over the past 4 yrs I believe. I feel a bit sorry to say that in all ways this ship has gone down in my estimation and is like a frail old lady. This not to say that we did not enjoy our 2 weeks cruise because we did, but knowing this ship for a good few years it is a bit sad, so see her being dragged round the Med when all she wants is a good rest. The cabins are ok especially ours as we have an adapted cabin which is large and adequate in size but it looks exactly as it did when we first went on it all those years ago .apart from a new carpet, except it should not have done. it should have been brought more up to scratch. The cabin does not seem to have been decorated since the beginning of us using it. The food in Mistrals is really lovely but so it should at the supplement over what you have already paid. A very short menu.. The Lido is a bit like a works canteen but we only went there for breakfast as the Meridian was too early for us The food is not quite so good as before but perfectly ok. The best bit about this ship is the staff. They do all they can to make sure that you are happy. I had a couple of blips but it was soon sorted out.. Read Less

Overall we really enjoyed the experience both on the ship and at the ports of call. The Good... The staff on board were all excellent and friendly. This ranged from service staff in the restaurants, the cabin stewards and the entertainment team... not a bad encounter during the whole trip! The ship was kept clean and tidy the entire time, including the restaurant areas and lounges. There was never a stack of empty glasses or litter left around. We chose to eat in the Lido Restaurant rather than the Meridian as we prefer a more relaxed atmosphere and the menus seemed to be the same but a buffet rather than table service. The food itself was very good with lots of variety and choice every day. Food was available from 6am through to around 2am so there was always plenty of opportunity to fit in a snack or three. There was a good choice of on-board entertainment to choose from. There were musical and comedy shows in the Broadway Lounge every night and quizzes, games and bingo in other venues throughout the day. Plenty to keep the guests engaged. We went on a shore excursion at each port of call and found the logistics of them to be very well organised. We will say more about the trips themselves a little later... The cabins we had were much better than we were expecting. They had plenty of space and lots of storage. The Bad... The Celebration itself is a small and rather old ship and it is starting to show. There was a constant vibration running throughout the ship even when docked in port that was very noticeable. Sometimes this vibration was enough to rattle glasses and make the stage lights swing, so it isn't a small problem. The deck areas were packed full of sunbeds, sometimes to the point of being a pain to get past, especially if guests were not being particularly considerate of others. In our cabins, the fridge wasn’t actually a fridge, but a box that sort of tried to keep things cold. It didn’t work very well. There could also be more power outlets in the cabins. One socket might have been sufficient 30 years ago when the Celebration was built but it’s far from adequate these days. Additional costs. This was particularly annoying as until we got onto the ship we had no idea that soft drinks were not included (even with meals). We booked as Full Board so was expecting a little more choice than Tea, Coffee or Water, but that is all we could have. There was an option to upgrade to the 'All Inclusive' drinks package at a cost of £200 per person for the week. This would have included soft drinks, but as we are not drinkers of Beer or Spirits it would have been an extremely expensive option. There was no option of a 'soft drinks' package. We also heard a lot of people who had purchased the all-inclusive drinks package complaining that not all of the drinks were included! There was another 'Premium' package that they could upgrade to for another £50 extra per person. Amazingly, this ALSO did not include every drink available on board, many had additional surcharges. It was all very confusing and annoying, as guests are not made aware of this before check in. This also meant that many drinks had various possible prices - full price, all-inclusive surcharge price and premium surcharge price. For example; a 200ml glass of Coke (but mostly ice) was £1.20, but is included in the all-inclusive package. A 330ml can of Coke was £1.90 but if you had the all-inclusive package, it was still an additional £1.00. Not very all-inclusive or straightforward!! If you wanted a steak meal in the ‘included in your full board’ restaurant, it was yet another additional charge. £9.95 this time. Wifi? £8 per hour! Want to use the safe in your cabin? £15 for the week. It was extremely annoying. General availability of information was a problem. We found that TUI were very bad at letting us know what to expect. They provide a service where once you drop your cases at the airport you don’t see them again until you get to your cabin. This is useful, but we didn't know about this until we were in the check-in line at the airport and were handed a label to put on our case by a TUI rep. Handy, but if we had anything in our cases that we wanted to use when we got to Dubrovnik before we got on the ship we would have been out of luck. We found the same with the shore excursions. For a start we had to Google how to book them as it isn't on the same web page as the cruise booking and nowhere had a link to the excursions sites. Once on board we found trips could be booked there, but many were sold out already and once again, we were not informed. The descriptions of the trip were also rather vague and in retrospect a bit misleading at times. For example on the Kefalonia Highlights trip in Argostoli, the tour we booked advertised "Next, it’s time for a visit to the island’s most photographed stretch of sand, Myrtos Beach. This mile-and-a-half-long curve of white pebbles is the setting for several scenes of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin." We carried around a bag with towels and swimming gear in all day only to find that this visit was a 2 minute stop at the top of a cliff to look down at the beach and take a picture. This particular tour was not a good pick due to the amount of time spent on the bus. In a five hour tour we had 20 minutes in a row boat (which to be fair was amazing) and 1 hour in a town called Fiskardo. It was very picturesque but we had no time to enjoy it before we had to head back to the coach. A couple of the tours we went on also had some very intense bouts of walking, either due to steep climbs or quick tour guides that had to be followed. This wasn't a problem for our group, but I would guess 75% of the guests on these tours were elderly and many had mobility issues. On one tour several people stayed on the coach as they couldn't do the walk to the Greek Ruins in Igoumenitsa. This could have been avoided by more information being given at the time of booking. In conclusion... We really enjoyed the trip but would not travel on the Celebration again, mostly due to the constant rumble and vibration being very off putting. We would also be hesitant about booking with TUI again due to the stream of additional charges and lack of provided information. Read Less

Chose this cruise as provided opportunity to visit new destinations, 3rd cruise with Thomson/Tui/Marrella, and standards of food and drinks have dropped each time. Service and cleanlinesscontinues be of a good standard, although cabins are in need of upgrade. Had the AI package, but didn`t take the upgrade offered at £50 pp, spirits served were LIDL/ALDI own brand standard unless you specifically asked for the brand. Diet/Light mixers were from plastic bottles and usually flat, service in show lounge slow Entertainment team worked hard but surely time to refresh shows, Cabin beds feel as if they are worn out very uncomfortable, problem with shower draining Food quality in MR was lower than previous cruises but generally well cooke and served, wine by the glass in AI package was acceptable. Took two ships excursions, well organised and reasonable value Embarkation and disembarkation were fine, baggage delivered promptly Great atmosphere and company but may be looking elsewhere. Liked the itineray of this cruise, and it turned out to be OK. Trip to Etna dissapointing as 4 hrs in Bus without being able to see anything due to weather. Option of cancellation/ altered itineray would have been helpful. Nothing much to see at Ignomemitsa, Greek mainland, ? why does it stop there. Kotor in Montenegro is beautiful, and sail in is stunning Staff very friendly, and food excellent, but dissapointed in speciaility restaurants. Booking was obviously misalid when we arrived, and as this was a 30th wedding anniversary treat, the extra paid was really not worth it . Engine noise quite noticeable on lower levels. Shows in Theatre are very good, make sure you get an early seat, and the bands in the bars also excellent. Staff are very friendly, and cabin staff did a great job of cleaning rooms. Couldn't quite fathom why you need a safe when it requires a fob( which you pay for), rather than putting in a code , as in most rooms. WI-FI also extra. Enjoyed cycling trip . Read Less

We chose this cruise itinerary because of the ports of call and have been on about 10 cruises with Thomson so was really looking forward to it. The ports of call did not disappoint but I feel that Thomson did. We had noticed a change straight the way, no sooner we were checked in on board and before we took a few paces away from the table we were offered to buy a drinks package, if we had wanted one then we would have bought one when we booked our holiday. They used to have a different theme every night for food, but sadly no more. The food was very plain, not much flavour and it seemed to me cheap cuts of meat. The staff do as best as they can and always seem happy, but i feel they have cut back on them as well, as many a time people were waiting to be served. Cut backs all round I think. We were lucky as we got our holiday at a good price, but talking to other passengers if I had paid what they had I wouldn't have been happy. Maybe it's time to try other companies out. Read Less

We sailed on the Thomson Celebration from September 29 - October 5 on the Eastern Mediterranean trip. It was our first-ever cruise so we were pretty green and did not have anything to compare it with. First impressions were good, embarkation no problem and our deluxe cabin 136 was much larger than we imagined it would be. Enjoyed first day walk excursion in Dubrovnik, taking in cable car and the extremely busy walled city. Next day was Athens, what a dump and a miserable courier. Glad to get back but not so happy with the sickness and diarrhea bug (norovirus warning had greeted us in cabin on arrival) that struck me almost immediately. Called the doctor and he gave injection and confined both myself and my partner to the cabin. Next day was miserable sitting on bed most of the time - glad we had a window - and missed booked excursion to Itea. We were released from cabin late that evening as I had recovered sufficiently so were okay for Corfu Town trip next day. Enjoyed that, taking boat ride around the caves and a winding coach journey up to an impressive vantage point at a local restaurant Looking forward to Montenegro excursion the next day but hopes dashed when partner went down with the bug the previous evening. Given the jab by the doc and confined to cabin, I was allowed out but had to stay on ship. I did go out on deck early in the morning as the ship moved in through the fjords, impressive. On each occasion the doctor said he would hand our unused excursion tickets to reception and apparently if you book them on the ship you are reimbursed immediately, but we booked ours in our local Thomson shop prior to departure. Reception told us refunds would take 7-14 days paid on the card on which they were issued. That time passed and no money had arrived, so I complained and Thomson stated they would deal with the issue within 28 days of my contact email. What great PR. We revisited our local shop in an attempt to expedite the matter and were told the Montenegro refund had been issued - the problem was nobody had told us and it certainly was not in our bank account. As to the Itea payment the shop managed to ascertain that the matter was under investigation but were unable to reveal any more as the 'investigators' refused to release any further details. No further contact so far. What a farce. Are they saying we are lying? We booked five trips on five days at a cost of £360 which would suggest we intended to enjoy as much of the holiday as possible. Surely they only have to check the ship's medical records to find the truth - presumably these would include details of injections, confinement to cabin etc. If not somebody was sadly lacking in their duty. In future on cruises we will certainly heed the advice of a senior member of crew - avoid the self service area whenever possible and eat in the main restaurants. A final word for the staff - apart from the reception desk which was hopeless in most cases they were excellent and our cabin steward Mustaffah was a real star. Read Less

Adriatic Affair/Taste of The Adriatic.September 8th to 22nd. Embarkation good, cases outside our cabin very quickly. If you want a peaceful secluded cabin without any corridor noise from other guests I can recommend number 51 on Deck 8 Plenty of drawer /wardrobe space. Large double bed, Sofa and small Table. Cabin kept spotlessly clean by Jaya. No problems with Shower etc, hot water at all times. However from the moment one steps on board Thomson's Money Making Machine is activated so keep your hands on your wallets unless you want to be faced with an extremely heavy bill at the end. Many services which used to be complimentary are now chargeable.Every demonstration etc is geared up to relieve you of your hard earned cash. We dined in The Meridian restaurant most nights and the food in general was good. We did not experience long queues and our waiter (No name mentioned) always saved us a table for two. The food in the Lido was good with something to suit all tastes and an excellent salad bar. The shows were first class and the team consisted of some very strong voices.Excursions were expensive and the majority not worth the money. Check out the local busses when possible .All the staff were polite and .pleasant.Disembarkation very good till we arrived at the airport. Then we were informed our flight would be four hours late departing.,so we all lined up like cattle for a small drinks voucher. After travelling with Thomson for many years not once have we been given any incentive to carry on with them, so right now I feel it is time to say Bye Bye Thomson and spend our money with another cruise line. First time cruisers for anniversary. Ship a bit dated but service superb. Food very good and destinations varied and interesting. Entertainment first class. Balcony cabin a must as some appear to be a bit claustrophobic. Do NOT pay the all inclusive as you need to be a very heavy drinker to get the value for the VERY expensive package. Many drinks carry a surcharge above the AI cost. The excursions are costly and taxis offers are often a better bet. The captains night was very poor, with the same menu type as any other night and an hours queue to get in. Photos are taken all the time and cost a lot, but are optional, but not really good value. Bottles of water in cabin are not even in the AI package. Overall a good holiday but you can rack up an expensive bill if you don't be careful. Out cabin steward was brilliant and was always on hand to provide a good service. Read Less

Well this was our very 1st cruise & will definitely be our last. We didn't have any expectations of this holiday it was one that I hadn't looked up researched "trip advisor" trawled. Our cabin (0082 on the 8th deck) was nice light and spacious, the room is located on the deck with the lifeboats but our window had the gap so we had a good view. The ship feels a little dated inside and outside, but it is over 30 years old so expected? We found the whole experience very restrictive and over crowded, the whole time on ship I only managed to get a sun lounger once as everyone pops out at 7am and puts their towels on their desired lounger and leaves them on for the duration of the day! not once were any of the towels removed so not everyone can enjoy a bit of sunbathing? the pools are very small and over crowded. The toilets on this cruise were constantly blocked and I'm just thanking my lucky stars there wasn't the same norovirus outbreak as there was a couple of weeks previous as the ship seemed to do little to sort them out? they were blocked on different levels tor waiting about then cruising will not be for you? we did do the venice trip which was brilliant, we also did the PARENZANA train tour at a cost of 51 euro's each, it was the worst day there i can not believe they have this as a tour! the "TRAIN" is actually a nissan cladded to look like a train which pulls 3 trailers full of people through some lovely countryside most of which you can't see! Thomson are very crafty how they have taken the photo of the train and many were disappointed on arrival as they thought it was a real train they were boarding??? our carriage may as well not have had any wheels at all the noise throughout was horrendous !!! and when we got back many said the town/port was beautiful so not enough information given on the trips. Our last day was Bar in Montenegro the town/port is extremely industrial and unattractive why Thomson don't stress this to encourage the day trips here i'll never know, we had an hour or so off ship which was a day wasted in our opinion but I appreciate we are not all the same just my personal view. I was glad to get off ship the only two good things about our holiday was the food and the staff. Cruising just wasn't for us.he whole 7 days we were on board and finding a toilet to use that wasn't blocked became the talk of the ship! The food was just brilliant and the service was 5* too we couldn't fault either of them, and the cleanliness of our room was second to none throughout the whole stay, we met many people who had done lots of cruises and the majority of them go again and again, but if like us you like to do what you want when you want with no restrictions Read Less

Well what can i say? We had a nice holiday and what the ships condition lacked was made up for by the staffs friendliness and sense of fun but this ship really really is at the end of its life. Great food, entertainment and destinations except Crotone where surely the local council must pay Thomson to dock. Shady looking dirty southern Italian town, litter and dog shit everywhere, dirty beach with broken glass. We did not feel safe and were back on board within an hour. Anyhow other than that all destinations were good. Ship is old and is rattling and shaking itself to pieces, Large lumps of rusty paint dropping off it faster than the poor crew can paint over the gaps. Rear of the ship everything rattles, struggled to sleep some nights. Then we lost all engine power and were plunged into darkness leaving Valletta Which was followed by an emergency dropping of the anchors and the scrambling of 2 tugs before 30000 tons of metal crashed into Valletta harbour wall. No power for about an hour and this incident followed the previous weeks drama then the old girl got stuck on a sandbank leaving Albania!! The ship was clean as best as the crew could make it but when something is this old its always going to be difficult to maintani and with constantly out of order toilets its hardly surprising that the prior week there had been a few people with tummy bugs. We had a good holiday but come on Thomson invest the money in some new (old) ships, as part of TUI surely there is investment capital available Would we return on a Thomson cruise, absolutely. Would it be on the Celebration or other vessel in this vintage fleet, absolutely not. Jon Naylor Read Less
