As first time cruisers, we didn't know what to expect. Tui/Marbella operated like a well oiled cog. Transfers were smooth and the staff certainly knew how to move passengers along. The food was standard, with a few dishes that were very good. We ate 1 night at Sirrocas, and found that the food was no better than that being served in the Compass Rose. The service was not as warm as we had experienced in the Compass Rose either. That said, it was a nice enough evening. The service in the Compass Rose was excellent. We always made sure that we were seated at one of Harly's and JR's tables. What fantastic waiters! They were friendly and very professional and went out of their way to make our experience a pleasant one. The wine steward, Yasser, was top of his game! How he managed to keep our glasses topped up at all times, heaven only knows! Even with so many passengers, he remembered what my husband drank. We found the excursions to be good value. Given that one is at the various ports for a limited time, unless one knows your way around, it makes sense to go an a tour. We enjoyed our trip so much that we are planning another one on the Spirit, before she is taken out of service. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary which was Dubrovnik, Kotor, Piraeus, Santorini, Rhodes and Limassol. The vessel was still sailing as Thomson Spirit (changing it's name for next year to Spirit). This is quite an old vessel and also the smallest in the fleet - this is not a problem and in fact has the advantage of making her quite charming and crew are very friendly. Another advantage is that we always got a seat in the restaurant as there were ample to cater for the number of passengers. We could not fault the service received. We checked in our luggage at Glasgow and it was delivered to our cabin just after our arrival. TUI are very slick and everything went to plan. There are 9 decks on board, deck 4 has the Compass Rose restaurant which has table service but basically similar food to that on the Lido Buffet on deck 5, if you like a steak, then Compass Rose is where to go, however we mainly chose to eat in Lido buffet which has a good choice of hot and cold meals to cater for most tastes. There is a 3rd restaurant which we never used called Sciroccos which had an alternative menu at a supplement of 19.95. During the day decks 5 to 9 have outside seating for relaxing and enjoying the sun. Deck 6 is ideal for just having a walk around the vessel to help work off the are for lazing outside with most. The main entertainment provided every evening in the Broadway show lounge was superb with youngsters displaying their versatility from singing Motown, the Blues Brothers, West End Musicals and on one evening there was a comedian. In the Raffles Bar a pianist played every evening and other bars had live music bands playing which were very good. When in Piraeus we took a shore excursion to see the highlights of Athens and the guide was very informative - the Acropolis (and Parthenon) is a must see. We were able to walk to the old towns in Kotor and Rhodes as the ship berthed close by , but in Dubrovnik we took a taxi to it's old town as it was too far to walk. At Santorini we walked up the 600 steps to the village which is not suitable unless you are quite fit, but you can always take the cable car at 6 euros each way. There is an option to take a donkey ride up the 600 steps and all credit to TUI staff for dissuading visitors from doing that as it is really quite cruel. All in all we had a great time and would happily sail on Spirit again, especially at the bargain price we paid. Read Less

This cruise was chosen primarily because of its itinerary which included Venice and Dubrovnik along with the chance to visit Slovenia, Montenegro and Croatia, all of which proved to be beyond expectation. Its true what they say about The Spirit there really is a genuine friendly atmosphere throughout the ship and i must commend The Captain for changing ports to avoid a bout of bad weather as this meant i had the opportunity to view the Roman amphitheatre at Pula which is virtually complete. I went on every excursion i could pack in and was most happy with the competent and helpful tour guides in charge of us, plus the prices for these trips were good value. The Compass Rose restaurant was a pleasant experience with crisp white linen abundant and most respectful staff; i always managed to get seated by a window for breakfast which certainly enhanced my dining experience as i gazed out at the blue waters of the Adriatic. The buffet restaurant was also a success with all the hot food being truly hot along with all sorts of delicious desserts. The entertainment every evening was as good as any i've seen in my twelve cruises with the cruise entertainments director, a Mr Ted James i believe, doing a sterling job..a rather good light comedian too i must say..well done Ted. Only fly in the ointment was the final day statement of account i received early morning just 2 hours before we were due to leave the ship before 8am..amongst the 4 excursions and 5 drinks i had legitimately purchased was a charge of £238 for something i had definitely not ordered or received and as my bleary eyes cleared at the site of this stunning amount(even the cataract in my left eye seemed to diminish at this one) i realised i had to act quickly and before 6am i was at reception. Fair enough the matter was soon resolved as i was assured that an assistant had put down the wrong cabin number and landed me with the bill for someone else and i was credited back the money on my debit card;yet a nagging worry stays with me of how such an error could occur on a ship where every purchase has to be by the cabin card allocated to one accompanied by my signature on a duplicate receipt. I feel that if i had not noticed the error till i was back home then rectifying such would have been quite problematical. I'm still waiting for the promised Thomson's(Marella) email promised to all customers asking for our review/experience of the cruise but as yet it hasn't arrived. Read Less

Where can I start to not be too over the top to praise this Cruise First off all the staff could not have done enough for us. I traveled with my disabled son and the staff called us both by our first names throughout the trip and nothing was too much trouble So friendly and chatty...to the cabin maids bringing ice to our room every day and the bar waiters giving hi fives and joining in to dance at the late parties....brilliant touch. It says all tips included but these staff on board are agency and paid very little so I would advise tipping as you go along. Your glass will never be empty but they treated everyone the same with or without tips. They don't expect it..... Struggled on my own with my son at times and the guests were excellent too chatting and helping him. Made some lovely friends from all over the country and a few from Australia. The people on board made our holiday ....especially the entertainment team who invited my son most evenings to have a sociable drink with them as he was their age (instead of being with his mum lol) Loved Teds Tatty Bye announcements every day and `Martyn who welcomed my son into their social circle of entertainment team. Loved Ted and Georgia beautiful people. The Broadway shows were brilliant A few upcoming west end stars in the making to watch out for I honestly think coz this ship was all English guests it made it a friendly ship everyone saying hello and time to chat. I;m amazed how friendly this ship was. Excellent holiday..... its gonna be hard to beat Thomsons but sure you wont disappoint us next year. Yes booking again soon Read Less

As first time cruisers, we weren't sure what to expect. I had read that the ship was dated and boy it is. Cabins are like a 70s bond movie and are dark and dreary , although I expect any inside cabin would feel like this. The shower an old style shower head and curtain. but it does the job! The rest of the ship feels old and in need of a re-make but again some of the older guests seem to like it that way. Raffles bar is an exception, light and airy with comfy chairs. The night time shows in the Broadway was of a really high standard I thought, with some great singing and dancing from the talented cast. Only negative would be that shows lasted only 1 hour , although repeated again later each night. We did not partake in any daytime actvities , but there was a full schedule in the daily newsletter. We normally dined in the self-serve lido restaurant or the terrace grill outside on the deck. I particularly liked the grill, with freshly cooked pasta or noodle dishes with outside seating. It was also good for grabbing a late afternoon snack of pizza if you had been ashore and not had time to have lunch. Also enjoyed afternoon coffee and cake ! We dined just the once in the Compass rose waiter restaurant - I wasn't keen on the food and felt the place a bit too formal , although my wife was quite happy with her dinner. The drinks on board tasted watered-down however. The lager was usually flat and the fanta was very weak (and flat). Obviously all inclusive drinks were free but had to pay a few pounds supplement on some cocktails , which was annoying. We are not heavy drinkers although we reckon the AI was just about worth it. I couldn't fault the service - the bar and restaurant staff were all friendly and hard working, the rooms were clean etc. Unfortunately the weather wasnt kind to us. Had to re-route from Pula to Trieste, meaning almost another full day on board with horrible weather and then only a few hours in the evening in Trieste. The excursions themselves, however, were well organised although expensive - we took the Thomson trip to Venice and Split ( game of thrones tour) , but did our own thing in Dubrovnik before departing, Koper ( bus to nearby Piran) and Zadar ( a walk from port to old town). Obvously the port stop towns are very busy with tourist ships and are geared towards this market, so are a bit 'spoiled' as a result. We did pass a few resorts en route from Dubrovnik port to airport which looked as if they would be more sedate and less touristy. Overall, I would not cruise on this ship again . I would consider cruising in the future, although I think we are more suited to chilling and exploring the one resort at our own pace, without worrying about returning to ship on time. Read Less

We flew to Dubrovnik on Dreamliner and impressed by seat legroom and at seat entertainment. Once cases dropped at Gatwick did not see them again until outside cabin. Transfer from airport to ship about 40 minutes and on ship within 40 minutes of arrival at port. CABIN - L shaped single beds (quite hard) and small porthole. Cabin dated but functional with lots of cupboard, drawer storage. WARNING. Electical point are American style and only 1 in cabin. Take adaptor and a multi-pin adaptor - you will need it. Cabin kept spotless by lovely Ida and Indyra - Twins from Ukraine and Bali. SHIP - Old but exceptionally well kept. Ship is Adult only so no children left to own devices - just naughty adults. Cant enter any dining venue without having hands gelled - fantastic - first ship this has been enforced - 10/10 Thomson/Tui Food in Lido Buffet and Compass Rose Restaurant is generally of highest quality, well presented and invariably hot - 10/10 Thomson/Tui. Plates presented are hot for hot food selection and cold for buffet selection - again 10/10 Thomson/Tui - other cruise lines especially Princess - please note. ship easy to get about being small but staff are ever so helpful and cheerful and so invariably are passengers. It is a happy ship and it shows. Ship has a number of entertainment venues. These include Broadway Show Lounge for mainly Ship Entertainment team to showcase talents, High Spirits for Quizzes, competitions, late night dancing /nightclub, Horizon Lounge for easy listening to trio , Explorers Lounge for relaxed chat and lastly Raffles Piano bar and Casino Area. All venues were spotlessly clean. Sunbeds could be a problem on sea days but generally not a problem, although the sun worshipers out in force at crack of dawn and not seen on beds most of day. Ship sunbed policy never enforced.. DRINKS - we were on All Inclusive and I could not believe how many beers/Spirits, cocktails were included. You could also be required to pay a supplement doe some drinks but most included. In the two weeks we only ever needed to pay 1 supplement for £1.50. The House White and House Rose were very palatable wines and available all day and very generously provided at dinner. ITINERARY Dubrovnik, Koper, Pula, Venice, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik (Turn around) then Valetta, Messina, Taranto, Igoumenitsa, Koper and finally back to Dubrovnik. Weather up to Zadar was invariably poor with heavy rain. Trip in Pula was cancelled owing to storms but ports of call were generally excellent apart from Igoumenitsa. It is pretty grim so book a trip. In summary - this was our first Thomson Cruise and wont be our last - value for money it blew the other cruise lines out of the water so bye bye P&O, Princess and RCI - Thomson has got my vote. Chose to go on smaller ship for our first cruise, to celebrate our golden wedding, and were not disappointed. From the time of arrival at our airport until disembarkation from ship to going on to stay in Dubrovnik for a second week, we didn't have to lift a finger and were thoroughly spoiled. We had a balcony cabin on the top deck which was spacious and comfortable. The cabin stewards were wonderful. The food was good, we ate in the Compass Rose mainly and had plenty of choice and the waiters couldn't do enough for us Our last night we ate in the a la carte restaurant, what exceptional value, we couldn't eat it all! The entertainment was good and the shore excursions met up to our expectations too. We met some lovely people as we always shared a table. A holiday to remember, we couldn't have asked for more. It has been10 years since we last sailed on the Thomson Spirit and we were expecting it to be showing its age but it goes to show age isn't everything. From stepping on board to our final day we could not fault the service of all the staff on board the Thomson Spirit. Our cabin was on the 3rd deck, the décor was dated but it was clean and tidy and the bed was extremely comfortable. We ate at the Compass Rose restaurant most evenings and the food was lovely, Adrian (the Maitre D'hôtel) and the waiters were very attentive and their after dinner sing along was wonderful. The entertainment in the Broadway Show Lounge was top class, as good as any West End show. The guest act was Martin Daniels and his show was excellent. We booked this cruise for its port of calls, especially Athens and Olympia, we had plenty of time to visit the local attractions, as most days we docked at 08.00 and did not sail until 18.00 hours. Both tours guides on the above trips, we only booked the two, were very informative. Our luggage was collected on our day of departure and was checked in by Thomson's at the airport and we next saw it at arrival in the U.K. Overall this was a relaxing holiday, made especially so by the friendliness of the crew who always had a smile and a greeting of Good Morning /Evening. Of note it was also good to be able to walk the promenade deck, 5 laps equals one mile, which you do not get on many of the newer, modern ships. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. Had previously had a whistle stop visit to Dubrovnik on a previous cruise with a different provider and we wanted to revisit. Thomson Spirit itinerary met everything we wanted in revisiting Dubrovnik and seeing some of the other regions of Croatia with bonus stops at Trieste and Venice. We had between 6 to 8 hours in port at each stop. We booked two tours: Trieste (Slovenia Cave and Castle) and Hvar (wine tasting). Both excellent with very knowledgeable tour guides who gave insights into Croatian way of life and idiosyncrasies of the particular region. All other stops we did our own thing, getting on public buses and taxis. Now the Ship! We have been on previous cruises, much larger ships with a more luxurious aspect but I can quite understand the loyal following of Spirit. Staff are amazing, customer services is the best. Our cabin stewards Henry and Vitalily were awesome and looked after us from the moment we entered our cabin to disembarkation. Our cabin, deluxe outside, was large and very comfortable, constantly cleaned and made tidy. In the evenings we dined in the Rose Compass Restaurant as we like to have waiter service when on holiday. On the whole food outstanding with only a couple of meals that perhaps were not to our taste, hey ho you get that on every cruise. Food on the Thompson Spirit, we felt, hugely better than our previous experience with other provider. Entertainment was ok, with the best performance saved to the last night, West End Productions. This was amazing and well deserved the standing ovation. We didn't take part in the scheduled activities or demonstrations as chose to get off the ship at each destination. Yes there were areas of the ship that clearly showed signs of age, wear and tear with minimal repair work that did the job but not particularly pretty. Despite this the atmosphere on the ship was fantastic. Free dining meant we were on a different table each evening with different table companions, highly enjoyable and entertaining. Thank you to all those that shared our dining experience each evening. We drank in every bar at some point during our cruise but always ended up in High Spirits for the excellent live band Strum Jam and the entertainment and disco afterwards. Except for one night we didn't get back to our cabin before 2am every morning, dancing into the early hours. Met some great people and will certainly be booking another Thomson Cruise. Read Less

We are glad it has been kept in service and should be updated and kept by Thomson. our cabin was of a good size and was adequately equipped. staff service was excellent, cabin was very clean and comfortable. We booked 4 excursions within the week which was bit too much, we could have explored some of the points of interests ourselves. Would recommend the Venice tour though, very informative tour guide. We would not recommend the salt fields trip, very disappointing museum and should have had someone demonstrating how things worked. The wine tasting after did make up for it though. The ship's entertainment was very good and we very much enjoyed the show that was provided by the staff. The staff make you feel like part of the ships family. We shall certainly be booking another cruise. The check-in at the airport was quick, easy and seam less. Read Less
