We travelled on the thomson celebration from manchester on the 27thdec for new year sailing in the red sea. We have cruised before but this was our fist time with thomson. The ship is quite old but we were happy with most things, food was good, entertainment fair, cabins adequate. The ports we travelled to were industrial but you could get a free bur into jordan, if you didn't want to go on organised trip you could get a taxi at other ports however be prepared to haggle don't take 1st prices. We went on excursions to the dead sea which was a long journey but we all thourghly enjoyed it, cairo museum and pyrimids tour was good, the museum was a bit of a waste of time, we got very little time there but good to say you were there. The entrance into the mummys room is £10 each, they charge you £16 each on the bus before you get there, they say there are limits on numbers etc - you paid at booth at entrance to mummys room and there was no problem getting in, don't get ripped off pay it yourself a nice earner for tour guides, they also have the cheek to look for a tip at the end on the day after making £6/person at museum cost us £24 extra. Our toilet filled up and almost flooded over in the cabin, a quick run by maintence corrected this but always kept an eye on it. The staff were always encouraging everyone to sanitise hands and not to help yourself to food, well done i have had bad experience of hotels in egypt, no problems in this area. The sunbeds were limited and all taken by 8.30am with tickets being put on them throughout the day to no avail, more sunbeds needed please. We docked at safagha right next to an aluminium plant the 1st day was fine but on 2nd day the dust covered the front of the ship and also the outside eating area and food serving areas. The staff continued to serve food which was obviously covered in dust. We couldn't stay outside and sunbath and eventually left the ship and went to a hotel as the reception were very unhelpful and only decided to write out a complaint for after our third visit and our insistence. We paid £60 for the taxi and use of hotel. We were told to keep receipts etc which we did. On return to the ship it moved further up the dock and turned around but the outside remained closed off till we left for sea. Thomson have had this problem before several times and their response is that it is outwith their control (but they choose to return to this port). On return i phoned thomson to ask how our complaint was going i was told they just keep it on file and don't give a response unless you resubmit your complaint on returning. I did this and got response below "it's disappointing when your holiday doesn't go the way you had planned so i can empathise with you. please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused. On arrival into the pilot station in safaga the port agent advised that our berth was occupied by another ship which has a call once a year. Our usual berthing position was not permitted on arrival into safaga as the port authorities had permitted the albatross into our usual berth. A confirmation was received late morning that we could move further down the quayside and also turn the ship around - captain has made a pa announcement at 11.30. although this situation was beyond the control of the captain we do apologise for the inconvenience and concern this incident caused but i must also point out that this isn't an aspect that we're be offering compensation for. I might also add that the port of safaga is a regular destination and the dust has been analysed and is classed as being safe otherwise we wouldn't dock there at all as the safety of the passengers and crew are paramount at all times. i'm truly sorry that on this occasion, we were unable to provide a cruise which, for you, fully met your expectations in all areas. finally, i'd like to thank you for taking the time to write in. We always try to improve the service we offer and your feedback is a really important part of this process. As a valued customer, we would like to thank you for choosing to travel with thomson and hope you'll continue to consider us for your future holiday plans. we were only looking for our costs back not compensation but thomson were not interested other than our repeat business which due to this experience we will not be back on a holiday or ship with them. Went on the thomson celebration 10th oct 11. Everything fantastic.Had a outside double room on deck 3 , and it was very comfortable spacious indeed. We ate in the lido self service restaurant , which was superb , and loads of choice. Also had breakfast and dinner in the waiter restaurant the Meridian, even more superb [egg benidic ,sirloin steaks the best ever].Went to the mistral restaurant 1 evening, 7 courses plus bread rolls and a palate cleanser [sorbet].this was outstanding meal to be had.highly recommend. The entertainment was good, day and evening.Plenty of sunbeds. All the staff on board where fantastic, very welcoming and friendly. Our cabin steward "Andi" brilliant. We were not impressed with the ports of call . But we just enjoyed the time on the ship instead. But i suppose that goes with the area we went to , leaving marmaris to antalya, larnaca, haifa, port said, port alexandria back to marmaris. The standard of cleanliness is extremely high, and constantly sanitising our hands. Which i feel is needed when there is 1250 passengers and 24 hr food available. Overall it was a fantastic 1st time cruise, overwhelmed at times. The staff made us feel so special.Cannot wait to try another one.. The only negative i do have is the engine shuddering and vibration noise. No matter where you are on the ship you feel and hear it.Even in the night and it does disturb your sleep.so this would be the only thing that would stop us returning to this ship. Which is such a shame as would love to book a return visit on her . Read Less

We sailed from Marmaris Turkey in September 2011, on the Thomson Celebration. The destinations were fantastic, the highlight was Jerusalem and Bethleham. Well worth the money on the Thomson trip. It was very well organised and the tour guide was well informed. We booked late and had a cabin on deck 1/2. We like an outside cabin, so we paid £84 for an outside. What a waste of money as the cabin we were allocated on deck 1 was right on the water line, and as we sailed along most of the time it was below water. So we saw nothing out of it. When we were in dock we faced a brick wall (the quay). It was about 3 inches from our porthole and we had to have our light on all the time. We felt we had been deceived as this is not pointed out on the website or in the brochure. Our shower in the cabin needed re-grouting. Also the water machines in the Lido restaurant had been taken away, and you have to ask for water. There is very little fresh fruit available. Some evenings it took two hours for us to have our dinner in the restaurant as the sevice was so slow, due to there not being enough staff. We thought that Thomsons had been having a costcutting excercise since we cruised with them last year. I still think that Thomsons is good value for money, if you can get a deal, but I think they need to be careful with all the competition on the high sea!! Read Less

The best holiday weve ever been on, Thomson celebration 23rd may 2011 egypt and the holly land departing from marmaris in turkey . Read some of the other reviews and have to say our experiance was second to none, from the flights to transfers to the ship, was bigger than i thought it would be and very spacious inside. From the food to the drink and especially the staff who were fantastic they realy went out their way to make you feel special and couldnt do enough for you, the entertainment team were some of the best weve ever seen, we were never bored always something on at sometime . The trips were on the pricey side but i suppose worth the money so cant realy complain too much. Would definatley book with thomson again , alot of the other passengers said theyd done lots of cruises but they always love the thomson ones that bit more and have been on many of the thomson ships. So think weve got the cruise bug and are thinking of booking up again for september. Read Less

I travelled with my wife two children aged 8 and 10, and mother and father-in law for a week on Thomson Celebration. We flew to Paphos and then transfered to the port of Limassol. The organisation was good and we were soon on the ship enjoying the food.THe ship is a little old but is very clean and well maintained. The staff are excellent especially the waiters and room staff for whom nothing is to much trouble. Our children enjoyed the Kidzone and made new friends. They could not wait to go to the next session and were really disapointed when they missed out due to us going on trips. The shows are of a good standard and varied. I personally did not like the UK comedian whose entire show was built around the theme of being drunk- a little to low brow for my liking but others certainly enjoyed him.My only negative comments are that the food did not seem as varied as we had tasted on the Spirit last year. Don't get me wrong its still good but not as good. Also there were a few problems with the toilet packing up.But these were soon fixed. The ports other than Alanya(Turkey) are all industrial. You can't really go far if you get off. You either take a trip or sit in the port watching ships load and unload.Overall we had a great time and would think about going back sometime to visit some of the places we missed out on. Read Less

Hi Everybody! We have just arrived back from the Thomson Celebration Cruise to Haifa, Alexandria, Pireus, Turkey, Rhodes etc....Bl**dy Fantastic! :-)We flew out to Cyprus and then ( after some poor organisation at the airport, direction to wrong coaches for people etc ) we were off.The weather was cooler than we expected, we needed a top jumper and a few days a RAINCOAT! But that still di not detract from the thrill of being in Jerusalem and Bethlemhem on Good Friday! Or seeing the pyramids and King Tuts Treasures at Cairo Museum, AWESOME!II I may, I have a few tips though. * Take something to do on the plane for the 4 1/2 hours! We had NO entertainment on the return flight, and the stewardess told me that would be the case for all of May. Tiresome journey.* Cairo Museum, don't pay for extra and go into the Mummies Room. Its not really worth the cost (the GUIDE on the coach charged us £20 each, which I believe was not the real price!!!) and also, you get so little time in the museum and there are LOTS of other fascinating things to see.* Be prepared for whistle-stop stops! Unfortuneately, we had as much time in the 'stop-on-the-way-back' souvenir shop as we did at the Pyramids! * Be prepared for all beers on board the ship to cost you £3.25 a pint, or can!And I found the cans had more life about them....they had to 'work the pump' to get a head on the bitter ....best have cans!* If you visit Rhodes, take a cammera! Rhodes Old Town is a marvelous place for pics ! Just amazing...I will tell you know more.* And as usual, all the trips are overpriced, but what do you expect? The staff on board the ship were just superb, no job was too much for them. Just ask the waiter...and off they would go and retuen with a beaming smile and your required tea, coffee, beer, food! And on the subject of food! I ate so much ! Couldnt fault it!If any is on the Celebration in the near future, if you happen to bump into Pam Jarvis, the Social and Welfare lady, please say 'hello' to her from Paul and Kim. She treated us REALLY well, and typifies the staff on board, at all levels...We had a wonderful time, even though the Factor 20 didnt have to come out the bottle! Read Less
