This was a great cruise and all inclusive too. Gave our bags over at Gatwick and never saw them until they were in our cabin onboard. Same on the return. Food, crew, entertainment and the housekeeping magnificent. The Broadway revues were one of the highlights of the cruise. The enthusiasm and ability of the group were superb. We would often go to the lounge on the 9 level after the show to listen to the quieter music. But oh the adds ons!!! £90 for 2 weeks wi-fi( connection not guaranteed) £25 for the room safe. £50 for premier drinks package. £1 for a can of Coke. £1 for a bottle of water Very poor exchange rates on the dollar and euro(.97 euro and 1.06 dollar) Don’t exchange back. £19 for tour to the bridge. £50 for tour of bridge, engine room and galley. We wanted to go home shortly after boarding the ship. The only good thing I can take from this cruise is that the majority of the staff are very helpful and pleasant as one has come to expect from Thomson/Marella cruises. Although in the minority, there were enough loud, drunk and foul mouthed party goers to ruin anyone's cruise. They made one hell of a noise in the early hours of the morning in the corridors. Drunk couples fighting and swearing at each other, loud drunks up at the bars, Broadway show lounge and out on the decks. Compared to other cruises there were just too many incidents for this to be a one off. It appears that this itinerary and low cost cruise has the ability to attract the above mentioned people unlike other cruises I have been on. The walls separating the cabins are paper thin. We were inside cabin so got constant noise (snoring, coughing, couples having sex, flatulence, opening and closing of drawers etc) coming through the walls on all four sides including the corridor. The cabin doors have a gap and let in all the noise and light from the corridors. The onboard entertainment was in my opinion well below average and musicians repeated the same songs night after night. The food in Lido's and the Meridian was below average and the vegetables always overcooked. The wok in Lido's was terrible and the person operating that should take a few lessons from the guy who does it on the Dream. The lobster down in the Meridian on the first Captains night was tough and overcooked. In the Meridian the catch of the day was so soggy and tasteless and the same applies to the bacon and hashbrowns in Lido's. Having said this, one could be selective at the buffet in Lido's and come away with a few appetising portions of food. This was the first cruise I have ever done where I came home lighter than when I left. In summary, on days at sea there are some loud drunk people at places on the decks so one has to be selective where one goes. On days when the ship docks, which is most days, one stands in the breakfast queue with others who cough all over you and also the food in the vicinity, then one eats a below average breakfast then goes out for the day. When one returns then one goes to the cabin to wash up along with all your neighbours and you get a chance to hear them using the toilet, showering, having sex, burping, flatulence, listening to music etc. Then one heads out for an overcooked meal but is selective and walks away with a few appetising items on the plate as if one is on diet. After this one heads to Broadway show lounge, only to walk out halfway during a lacklustre performance or because some really drunk person is spilling their drink on you or others in the vicinity, yet continues to be served alcohol. So then, not wanting to go down too early one heads to one of the bars to hear the same musician/s singing the same songs they sang the night before. Then one cannot help but notice the loud drunk people and the continuous flow of well behaved people sitting down in the vicinity of the loud drunks then getting up and leaving without even finishing their drinks. After a beer one decides enough is enough and heads off to the cabin early only to be kept awake most of the night by your snoring, coughing, neighbour and of course the foul and loud mouthed drunks socialising in the corridors outside your cabin when returning to their cabins in the early morning hours. This was our third cruise with Thomson/Marella to the Caribbean and our second on Celebration. It started off really well in Manchester Airport waving goodbye to our cases and knowing that we would see them next outside our cabin door! Arrival in Barbados and we were whisked straight from the plane to the ship and through the painless embarkation process. Now our holiday could begin. The first thing that hits you as you board is the friendliness of staff on board and their willingness to help if you need any pointers! We saw a few familiar face from our previous cruises. The ship has recently had a little bit of an update and you could see this in some of the publc areas and bars. Our cabin was well tended throughout by our lovely cabin steward Gusti who made sure we had everything we needed and also provided us with many towel animals ! Loads of storage and wardrobe space. Bar staff were really friendly and by the end of our cruise greeted us like old friends-especially in Horizons bar. We tended to eat our breakfast and lunch/afternoon tea in Lido buffet. Lots of choice for everyone and always easy to find a table. Evening meals were also great and we ate in the main waiter service dining room Meridians. Again really friendly and attentive staff. We always managed to have a table for two with no problems. Entertainment was ok - daytime quizes etc The evening shows were good and varied but for us the trio in Horizons were the best (can't for the life of me remember their name !). The main band could have been a LOT better though. Best entertainment was Captain Nikos though! Great afternoon call out each day and very entertaining with it ! We had some great ports of call - some of them smaller ones - and that's one of the reasons we return to Marella. The Caribbean is easy to do excursions by yourself but you do need to do some research beforehand. Ship excursions were varied and although we went on a couple found some of them to be extremely pricey!! Our top port of call was Virgin Gorda. Well Done Celebration !! Read Less

This is our sixth cruise on-board the Celebration, the first being 10 years ago. Yes we will agree that the ship is getting a little old, however, the refurbishments to the ship, made over the period we have enjoyed here, are significant and have made a huge improvement to our enjoyment. Let's go from the start. Our luggage was taken from us at Manchester Airport, and the next we saw of it was in the cabin. (The same applied to our return journey) The transfer from plane to the ship, was effortless. The greeting and issue of the 'on board' cards was simple and quick. Once onboard, the staff were as friendly as always. The cabin (Deck 6 Outside Plus) was very large, very clean and well equipped. The food, especially in the main Dining Room, The Meridian, was nothing short of first class, great variety, great service, if variations were requested, they were always delivered. The food in the Lido self service dining area, has been greatly improved. The food is fresh, hot and beautifully presented. The entertainment staff were some of the best we have had. The 'show team' had fantastic harmonies together and produced a fantastically entertaining evening every night. (Congratulations' to them all) If there was a slight fault, we think it was with the ports of call. All Islands were affected by the recent hurricane. Most of the islands have repaired quickly from this devastation, however some have done little to repair, but we still go, twice during a 2 week cruise. Yes we know they want the tourist's money, but there is nothing to do and see, a 15 min. walk around and back on the ship, is all that they see of us and our money. Other ports have 'No Go' area's, which are a little off-putting. The excurtions listed onboard were extremly expensive and to be honest, not worth the prices stated. Some changes to the itinerary are required. It was my wife's special birthday whilst onboard. The staff (And Guests) made a huge fuss, and made this trip even more special. This cruise is highly recommended and we will be returning to the Celebration for future explorations in the near future. Thank you to all the staff. Read Less

This cruise was the first part of a cruise and stay holiday, and we were a little bit apprehensive about going back to an old ship ( a very old ship) we started our cruising holidays on thomsons and the defunct air tours ships but 48 cruises later and cruising on all the major cruise lines, it was a step back to the celebration, we paid extra for one of the balcony cabins, and it was well worth the money the room was large and spacious and had a bath with over shower, the balcony had two sun beds and a table and chairs, and the room overhaul was perfect, large comfortable bed, a nice size dressing table and ample storage for a two week cruise, black out curtains, fridge, in fact nothing at all was missing and we were very impressed with the room, the ship is small by modern standards but very friendly and that is down to most of the staff being from the phillipenes who have a very friendly nice aptitude to life, a small casino onboard wth two tables for cards one black jack, the other five card caribean poker, and one roulette table this casino is in Hemingway’s piano bar and is a lovely place for pre dinner drink and after a nice place to retire to bed from, with a singer on keyboard and a singer with guitar performing for you, you don’t have a full theatre on this ship but a nice showbar with adequate shows from the on board entertainers and some guest acts, dress code is poor a lot of people who think dressing up is cut off jeans with at t shirt is formal, but overhaul good value for money with all drinks and tips included in the price. This cruise was the first for my partner and the third for myself. My partner has been put off for ever cruising again. This ship should of been weighed in along time ago, we were never told that the norovirus was present on the ship before we embarked, had we known we would not have went. You could not serve yourself at all to ANYTHING .. not even a glass of water. the food and service was terrible... over cooked / undercooked / small portions , it was awful, the waitress had a cold and was sniffing all over the place. they all looked miserable as hell and would ignore you most of the time. There was nothing to do on this ship due to virus even the pools were empty half the time. The excursions were expensive and all very samey, if you wanted to do your own thing there wasn't much going on in the ports obviously so you had to get cabs to get anywhere which is ok if you know where you want to go. The only thing that saved the day was the entertainment gang, they were fabulous and should be on a better ship as they are wasted on this one. Our inside cabin had paper thin walls and we could hear conversations and tv's on both sides of our cabin, at night the constant vibration of the engines did not let up and creaked and groaned all night long , the air condition was so bad that I felt I was suffocating by the early hours of the morning every morning, two days. before we disembarked I started to get a bad persistent cough and sore throat which developed into a cold and severe chest infection which spoilt the weeks holiday after the cruise, its the 4 jan 2018 as I right this and I'm still ill and only started to unpack today, we got home on the 28 dec 2017. I strongly strongly advise anybody to avoid this ship like your life depends on it...Thompson should be absolutely ashamed to advertise this old tub as a cruise ship, everything about it, its crew, amenities, restaurants etc is way over its sale by date... I could go on and on and on.... AVOID AVOID AVOID Read Less

I read some reviews before we left, could not believe some of the reviews that had been left on the Celebration. I have Been on the Thomson Celebration before so knew what to expect. We had an inside cabin with a double bed on the second floor. Clean and more than happy with it. The choice of food and drink is more than good. The Lido serve yourself I did not think it was as good as the last time we where on board, but it was not bad. The best resturant was the Meridian, I did here some people complaining that there food was cold, we did not have that problem. Could not believe the waiters remembered us from before, with all the people they see I do not know how they manage this. The service and food was unbelievable. They work there socks of. We booked the three payable restaurants the Asian, Minstrels and the hot stones restauant. I prefered Minstrels then the Hot stones last the Asian. I was a bit dissappointed with the drinks package, we paid for the upgrade of the drinks package. I noticed that a lot of the drinks you still had to pay more towards the drink. I know this was the same as when we on board before, but this time there where a lot more drinks with added charges towards them. I know the Celebration is a old ship, but I still like it, the staff go out of there way to make your holiday that little bit more special. I am almost sure they do not get paid what they are worth. They are so happy, one of the waiters returned to the ship just as we where leaving and wanted to know if we would be returning and that he was sorry he had missed us. He recognised us first. I would like to thank the hotel manager, on the last night I asked him a question and he said he would find out the answer and someone would let me know. After we returned to our cabin a letter with the answer on was waiting for us. Very good service. Would love to visit this ship again. It is also nice that you have free laundrey to use. This is a big deal when on a cruise. What I found very helpful this time was the fact that once we checked our suitcase on at the airport we did not see it again until we where at our cabin. It was also nice that we did not have to go through the airport, that we got straight of the plain and on to a coach. Very good and hassel free. Again when we returned, after putting our suitcase out to be collected did not see it until we landed, this was a great help. Due to us not reading of the instructions we where waiting to be called to disembark, but they do not call you unless there is a delay, that was our mistake. Read Less

This was our first cruise and first time to the Careibran. As other reviews state the Celebration is a little faded, but saying that it was lovely to be on a 'proper ship' and the fact that it was small meant that it was very friendly. All the staff were extremely efficient and friendly. The journey from Birmingham to Barbados was completely stress-free and seamless. No queues at the airport as your baggage is taken off you at a separate desk and you dont see it again until its in cabin cabin. The cabin itself on 3/4 deck had two single beds and although it was well-equipped and had tea/coffee making facilities the beds were not very comfortable. If I was going again I would pay the extra to have a deluxe cabin. Food on the whole very good. Always plenty of choice in the Lido which was self-service for breakfast and lunch. We had evening meals in thr Meridian as it was nice to dress up and have waiter service but, be warned, food in here was sometImes a bit hit and miss. Still for 4 courses there wasn't really anything to complain about. Entertainment in the Broadway very good and there was always something going on during the day if you stayed on board but also there were plenty of sundecks around if you wanted to get away from it all. There was also always alternative entermainment in The Horizon, Liberties where you could dance and Hemmingways. Loved the coffee shop too. Read Less

Saying goodbye to your luggage at Birmingham is the start to our holiday as you wont see them again until you enter your cabin on the "Celebration" in beautiful Barbados. As first time cruisers we chose this particular trip as being a smaller boat it can get into ports and islands restricted to the larger boats, it worked perfectly for us. The ship is older than others but very stable and looks like a boat unlike the larger liners that resemble large blocks of flats, we loved the quirkiness of it and the size (still large enough to get lost".) Our cabin was ideal for us as we were rarely there, choosing to be on the islands or in the bars/on deck outside etc. The cabins are cleaned morning and afternoon and the beds turned down in the evening, the attention to detail is excellent and "Munir" worked very hard to ensure everything was spotless at all times. The entertainment took me a few days to get into it, but then I really enjoyed it and we went to all but two of the nights in the Broadway showroom, the "Cameron Classics" being an absolute highlight from the team. The shows run at 8.30pm and 10.30 pm for the later performance, after that it's on to "Liberties" for even more fun late into the night with "Protege" (What a fantastic band) great musicians, very tight and such a professional sound. Although I wish they wouldn't pretend to do requests, we saw the many times and they just play what's on their list all the time and the request songs never change from week one to two or night to night. The Cruise Director is "Paul Evans" and he is excellent, always informative and enthusiastic without being over the top, he makes you feel part of the ship and you always know what's going on at all times. You have two choices for food, the "Meridian" and the "Lido" the latter being the casual restaurant. Both provide really good food with the "Meridian" being the service restaurant, we never waited long and the wine flows well thanks to "Semina" the head Sommelier, if you are on the all inclusive package the house red is very, very good! The bars are really "Hemingways" on level 5 and "Horizons" at the pointy end on level 9, both are comfortable but difficult getting a seat. Get "Hector" to serve you in "Hemingways" he is excellent and attentive and get's to you as soon as he can after he had acknowledged you are there. There are other outside bars but we rarely used these but service is ok outside and you have to catch the waiters eye, the inside and outside "Lido" serves food all day and evening and has a nice choice and after few too many drinks late at night you will always get a meal. We spent New years eve at sea and the atmosphere and party was fantastic, champagne was served all round and the dancing went on into the early hours. There were a few sore heads in the morning. Our recommendation would be to get off the ship at every opportunity, see the islands, do the excursions and mix with the locals they are amazingly friendly. If you do the island tours you will pay a lot less by going private, walk onto the dock and negotiate with the local taxis. We did two excursions with Thomsons, "The Jet skiing on Currascoa"" and "The Rum Runner" on Grenada both great value and an amazing experience but the tours are expensive compared to local rates. For us it was all about the islands and we were not disappointed, beautiful does not come close to describing the atmosphere, the people, the lifestyle and the scenery. You will miss them when you get back to the UK. Cruising is a fantastic and comfortable way to see the world, we would recommend going all inclusive as you just relax and have what you want when you want. Would we go again? A resounding yes! We're already planning the next one for this Xmas coming 2016. Were things perfect? Of course not, but then what is, they were ideal for us as we saw it as a floating hotel with the goal being to see islands that many people never get the chance to see. Thankyou Thomson for helping us do so in a lovely old boat with a lovely crew and a warm and helpful atmosphere, we will miss you guys and will see you again as soon as we can. Read Less

We went for our honeymoon. We arrived in the embarkation area to be greeted by a miserable girl who never once smiled and told us we had to register a debit card with her or deposit £200 on board at Reception as this was their policy, she looked as if she did not want to be there, did she not think for 1 minute we had been travelling all day to get there to enjoy our holiday, just flown 8 and a half hours and were tired, so a smile would have gone a long way, the rest of the staff were jolly. We decided to forget about her and enjoy our holiday. Next up we had paid for an outside cabin and were given an inside cabin. Went to Reception to ask where our outside cabin was and there was a queue a mile long with complaints, most of them were about the rooms. We were told to return after 7pm to see the Supervisor, so we did and she informed us they were fully booked and they could only move us to a double room, I informed her my husband was claustrophobic but I don't think she cared as she kept saying they could not move us to an outside cabin, but they would try next week, so we had to make do with the inside cabin, my husband spent most of his time on deck as he could not stay in the room, they sent a bottle of champers as a way of apology but no compensation for the upset and inconvenience. We also paid for the drinks package £798.00 for 2 of us for 2 weeks, a rip off as most drinks had supplements on, unless you are a heavy drinker and will drink anything then it probably would be okay, poor quality drinks. We even had to pay for bottled water after paying that extortionate amount. When our luggage arrived we noticed our original cabin number 812 which we should have been in was scribbled out and 828 wrote on which we were given. We did feel sorry for the reception staff as they did not know how to deal with the complaints there were so many. Our cabin man Giddy was wonderful the first week he was so nice and hard working. We got moved the 2nd week to an outside cabin and asked for an upgrade to premium drinks for all the inconvenience we had, they gave it to us and we still could not get bottled water from any of the bars they said you had to pay for it what a joke. Why is this ship called celebration, when you have to pay for everything even when your a premium customer, it should be called give us all your money. The only celebrating was done by Thomson for all the money they were getting. All I can say is never again and its a shame because the ship is lovely most of the staff are great, the food not bad. We have cruised with Thomson before and had a fantastic time as we were all inclusive on the previous one and there were no supplements on any drinks. We must give a mention to all the bar staff in Hemingway's as they were fab especially Lord and the duet, singer and piano man. The entertainment in the cabaret lounge was 1 comedian a week, the rest of the week it was small shows by the entertainment team. The entertainment in the day was repetitive. The disembarkation was very good. Most of the islands were beautiful and the beaches were great. The taxis in the Caribbean charge per person and not the taxi. We met some lovely people who made our holiday special and they did not charge us a penny. Pity Thomson did not make it special. The people who said they had a great time you were the lucky ones, the people who have put bad reviews on we believe them. Read Less

Went for Christmas and had a lovely time, our stewardesse, Baby is a lovely girl and kept the room spotless and always complemented me on my evening wear, some days we didn't get up till late but she always serviced the room. We had a problem with the room safe and an engineer turned up within five minutes to reset it, very impressed The service the Meridian was excellent, great choice on the menu and not over faced with too large portions, loved the fact you could opt to share a table and met quite a few interesting friendly fellow passengers, only one meal was made uncomfortable by a passenger who had no rapport skills and did not want to partake in pleasant conversation. My only downfall was that On Christmas night, the gala dinner, the first sitting was running late and the queue was too long so we went to the lido instead and the waiter was very obliging and fetched our champagne from the Meridian I made several trips to the Jewellers and he was so helpful and patient in helping me choose my Engagement ring We was on the drinks package and I was disappointed that most cocktails incurred extra charge but I accepted this and stayed within the package choice, we had our monies worth on principle but I doubt I will go with the package next time The entertainment was adequate, I especially enjoyed it when a passenger joined the band with his saxophone, excellent Joy, the drinks waiter on the deck stood out, always there ready to replenish our drinks with a big smile We did our own trips and loved sharing with other passengers to fill the taxis up Read Less

After reading a lot of negative reveiws we where apprehensive on going on The Celebration. It didn't have the wow factor as we approached the dock in Barbados. All the other ships dwarfed it. But as soon as we started going through passport check we where handed a refreshing drink and a friendly greeting. Our cabin was bigger than we expected and spotless. We where on deck 2 outside. Our cabin steward approached us with our first names and made us feel so welcome. He couldn't have done enough all our 2 weeks. Our suitcases where in the cabin within a hour or so. After looking round the ship and finding our bearings we felt so comfy and thought the Celebration was a elegant old lady. The shows where brilliant. The group in liberties where our cup of tea. We loved their Moortown nights. Horizons was our favourite for a quiet cocktail through the day and early evening. The food in The Meridian was top class a l carte. The Lido was excellent for breakfast and lunch. We had an amazing time on the caribbean islands. And would definitely cruise on the Celebration again. Read Less
