I’ve been on it before, not so cheap and cheerful, this time the quality of the food and entertainment has seriously gone down, I’m a vegetarian, last time the food was good, a nice variety of dishes, this time the same vegetables in just different sauces, lacklustre. Entertainment, the spots were a lot shorter with the resident bands, more breaks and 12am finishes were creeping earlier as the week went on, the whole ship gave the impression that as it was about to change itinerary nobody had to make an effort. Part of our company was my 82 year old Mother in Law, who inadvertently left the plastic cabin key in her luggage, we discovered when we got home, TUI took 280 pounds off her credit card for it! Also, watch your bill, my 12 year old son bought a day on the WIFI, they took nearly 400 pounds for internet. Never again Read Less

Just back from an enjoyable week on the Zenith. The staff on this ship make the experience very enjoyable. Smallest ship we have been on, but that made it all the more friendly as bumping into the same people regularly. Spent most evenings in the casino and bar, as this is where we found the most English entertainment, lovely gentleman on guitar and trio group, excellent variety of songs, no night the same. Finished off with a bet in the casino, lottery lady was lovely and treated us all like royalty. Enjoyed our late dinner sitting at 9.45, Benito and Caesar were excellent in their job and again made us feel very special every night. Menu had a section that was the same every day and specials that were changed nightly, cannot fault the quality of food. Plenty of sunbeds around the pool and upper level, some lovely sun traps around the rear of the ship. Cabins had plenty of storage and large shower, a bit tired looking. English channels available on the TV as well as movies available. Overall a great experience. Read Less

We are fairly recent cruisers and wanted a winter sun break and booked this cruise in January on line. The weather was superb and we were told by the crew the best they have had for several years. We flew from East Midlands to Tenerife and arrangements at departure, on arrival, coaching to Santa Cruz and boarding Marella Dream went like clockwork. The ship is old but is modern in appearance with good quality furnishings and the staff very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble from our room steward to the bar and restaurant staff. Corridors and lift space are a little narrow and not as spacious as more modern ships. The variety of lounges and drinking and dining options were first class as was the food and drinks. We like to be on our own for dinner and for six nights we were served by Jennifer and April who looked after us very well. The Marella Dream Show team and their shows in the Broadway Show Lounge were excellent. Some very good singers and dancers however the comedian Alan Wilkins material was older than us and we are in our 70's. The resident band were again very good with such a wide range of music on offer. Our only disappointment was the lack of space for sunbathing when we had such good weather. We were birthed in walking distance of six of the places we visited which is brilliant. There were lots of excursions and trips arranged which people we spoke to enjoyed. Leaving the cruise was also faultless, colour coded luggage and well organised. Our only disappointment was East Midlands Border Control on the return. It took about 30 minutes to process us which is not acceptable. A superb restful and enjoyable cruise. Thank you TUI. Read Less

We have only been on three previous cruises, all on small ships with quite personal service so this one at 1,500 passengers was big for us ! Our ports of call in the Canaries and Madeira were all fascinating, we thought that the excursions were overpriced and after finding that the handouts from the ship were not very helpful or accurate we headed for the tourist information offices at the places we visited. There was good information about the ports on-line but we used on-shore wi-fi and roaming Vodafone after a message that we would be charged £2.88 per minute for all calls, texts, and data on "Vodafone Marine" ! Our cabin, 1004, was quite good with a settee and table as well as TV and tea and coffee facilities and a good size window, a bit obscured by lifeboat access equipment. We had a problem with the safe which two visits from crew could not sort out, Dennis, an officer from reception was the second to try, we were pleased that the safe locked itself and refused to open until he put his override code in twice. He confirmed to us that it was faulty. I made a third visit to reception to complain and they refunded my money but were unable to provide a replacement safe for us or alternative safe storage for our valuables, apparently there is no safe at reception ! Our only option was to find a hiding place in the cabin. Please note there is no forseeable solution to this problem as replacement safes are apparently not available ! On our fifth day I was up early with diarrhoea and vomiting, I called reception as required and was visited by a doctor and nurse. They confirmed from my symptoms that it was not viral and therefore probably something that I had eaten so I could either stay in the cabin on immodium for 24 hours or visit the ships hospital for treatment which would see me well again in a couple of hours, I opted for the latter and had extensive blood tests and intravenous drugs, the treatment worked and I called back in the evening to check that all my obs. were normal. Excellent service but a tad dear at £1,400 plus ! Interesting to note that the previous day had been a "sea day" so it was most probably something that I had eaten on the ship. We unfortunately missed Lanzarote on my sick day. On the positive side, the crew were polite and helpful to a man ( or person I suppose I should say). The highlight of the cruise was the entertainment team, they worked non stop and were really professional and talented. The food was all pretty good ranging from canteen type buffets in various locations, made to order pancakes, omelettes and pizzas, a proper sit down restaurant with good service and "pay extra" speciality restaurants. We were on a full board but not " all inclusive " basis so we paid for the "wine package" which at about £14 per bottle compared to UK restaurant prices. Drinks at the bar were similar to pub prices. We enjoyed a lot of the cruise but there were things that let it down, there was no hot water on one evening and for the hour before the captains reception the whole ship was without any running water, the Captain did apologise and excused the smelly guests ! I registered all my complaints on-board and filled in the questionnaire on our return but there has been no offer of apology or compensation, in fact no response at all ! Read Less

Having read previous reviews I was very concerned about our holiday. Embarkation was excellent and the ship is extremely clean and the staff are amazing. Reception staff less so - unhelpful when we complained about noise in our cabin and when moved to another cabin in the middle of night only to find extreme engine noise they were very rude to us. The Orion restaurant is good and fellow diners well behaved in this restaurant. The waiters are amazing - service some of the best we have ever had in any 5 star hotel around the world. However, the decks are cramped, sunbeds old and stained and the ship is only slightly better than Brittany ferries - in fact the pool area is worse than the Pont Aven ferry. Do not go on this cruise if you want any form of culture or sophistication. Lots of bingo and hideous entertainment in the Broadway theatre. Very crowded in the buffet areas and breakfast on deck very busy. Stick to Orion restaurant for breakfast if you don't want to watch very large people eating very large breakfasts whilst talking very loudly on mobile phones to friends at home. I am trying to be generous here but all in all if you like Butlins you will like this - it is not like the previous P&O cruises we have been on at all but it is a lot less expensive. The Ports of call were lovely as was the weather and leaving the ship was extremely efficient. The main problem is the sheer number of people all crammed together on a very small ship and the type of people attracted to this type of budget cruise. Read Less

We are quite experienced cruisers now, but never with Marella and if im honest I was a bit dubious given some of the reviews, but we were very pleasantly surprised. Yes the boat and decor is getting a bit tired in places, but we have really struggled to find too many negatives, the only ones really were having to pay for the use of the safe in the cabin (£15 for one week), and the shower in our cabin which was a little temperamental, going from hot to cold and back to hot and then cold again all on its own!! The main evening entertainment shows were easily some of the best we have seen, all the cast of singers and dancers were amazing with special comments for Luke, Danielle and Charlotte. The evening meals in the Orion were all of a great standard, very “British” but generally excellent in quality, as was the service given by the staff, look out for Carl and his team around table 100, they were all lovely! The crew on board were actually all by far the friendliest and happiest we have ever met, always saying hello whenever you passed them, and nothing seemed too much trouble for anyone. Our cabin was an inside this time, we would normally have an outside or balcony but for this week we were happy enough to take inside, it was compact but everything was clean and comfortable, TV was working and we got Sky sports news, an ITV channel and a few others, no problems at all really, except the safe and the shower as already mentioned. Nightly turn down service and chocolates on the pillow and several towel animals from our steward who was lovely, thank you Antoinette. We will definitely be looking into further Marella cruises from now on, maybe on a slightly newer and bigger ship though. Read Less

Read so many negative comments about the boat. Don't believe everything you read. Crew and staff 10/10 could not fault anyone Food 10/10 there was always something you could choose from. There was plenty of other restaurants you could easily have eaten in but we chose to eat in the minstrel restaurant or the lido buffet. Ship and decor 9)10 Yes it's old but such a lovely boat kept spotless clean and in good order. Entertainment . Broadway Theatre So professionally put together. The shows easily compared to any London stage show. Transfer excellent with no problems. Always giving excellent advise prior to landing. My one and only quibble would be. There's no espresso coffee available unless you wanted to pay a small charge. Which was still cheaper than Costa. Overall my wife and myself really enjoyed the cruise. In no way were we disappointed with anything. I can only reiterate. Don't believe anything negative until you have cruised on the Marella Dream Read Less

Went with my mum and sister; chosen by my mum as she had not been to the Canary Islands before. Places included Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Madeira, Morocco and Lanzarote. The most positive part were the staff onboard who were always keen to help. Choice of and quality of meals was excellent. The entertainment team were excellent every night too. Due to adverse weather conditions, 2 of the nights were very rocky, and many felt sea sick; obviously not the fault of TUI. Poor weather continued for most days. The odd sunny day, it would have been nice to enjoy the sun beds on the top deck, but they were all taken, and the ones which were not had been "reserved" by selfish passengers draping towels over them. TUI need to address this. Another disappointment was that 2 of our excursions were cancelled; one due to not enough people booking ( hard to beleive that out of well over 1000 passengers, this could happen). Another was cancelled as filming for a movie was taking place in the area we were going to in Tenerife. The TV in our cabin did not work all week, as other passengers have mentioned. I guess we may well have been unlucky, and perhaps a cruise is not my kind of holiday. It seemed to be most popular with older passengers who prefer to stay onboard and enjoy making the most all the inclusive food and alcohol. When asked one afternoon by an elderly, overweight male passenger why I wasn't drinking, I was more than tempted to say "Because I don't want to look like you". I enjoyed using the gym several times. I would have preferred the choice of more activities such as yoga and aerobics. There was a pilates session on some mornings, but a bit too early and only if enough people turned up. Read Less

We were really looking forward to this trip, especially since TUI advertise that hey recently won family awards. However once on the ship we realised it is: - 1. Old, past it’s best. The carpets were tatty, there were often dodgy smells (as if toilets were blocked.) 2. Not great for kids at all. The kids pool is tiny, no play areas at all. Other passengers wanted them to be seen and not heard. Kids buffet started at 7 (well past the adult buffet!) small kids were not even allowed in the pool (no swim nappies allowed.) Seemed a bit unecessary and harsh on them - they have paid to be on holiday too! 3. The ship is small - it felt cramped and dark. 4. If you like sitting around and eating lots of food, then you’ll fit right in. If you are active and young, do something else. 5. The organised excursions were a rip off - for example a coach transfer was £60 for our family, return taxi was £24 in comparison. Read Less

We chose this particular ship as we had sailed previously with Thompson on the Dream. We were not disappointed as all the staff from bar to cabin stewards were amazing. A few special mentions to Glenny, Kumar and Farid who looked after us in the madusa lounge. Also Candy our cabin steward was so lovely, nothing was too much trouble for him. The food for breakfast and evening meal was really nice. The Orion restaurant was our favourite for evening meal could not fault the food at all presentation also excellent. The only thing that was negative was the all inclusive drinks. When ordering a spirit with coke the post mix from the pump was flat so they then poured cola from a litre bottle which was left open! If we wanted a can of coke we were told we would have to upgrade to the "premium" drinks package! This was very disappointing as we had already paid extra for all our drinks to be included so my husband asked to speak to a manager. I have to say this was dealt with immediately and they saw our point of view so we were able to order a can of coke at no extra charge. The only other disappointment was the merchandise on board to buy only watches and a few handbags apart from the shop which also sold clothes, perfume and jewellery. The entertainment was excellent and Taylor and his team did a good job. Loved the game shows and quizzes but our favourite was the band sound nation - they were excellent. The shows were also good even my teenage daughter enjoyed especially bernie flint! Our cabin was clean and comfortable as was the whole ship. Read Less

I had read a few recent good reviews and also some pretty bad ones. I booked the cruise to meet and celebrate my brother's 50th birthday. Booked well in advance through Vacations to go. I got great service from them, a superb price and no single supplement. I worked in the travel industry for many years and have been on various cruise lines, including Silver Seas, Swan Helenic Crystal etc. So, I had a realistic idea of what to expect for the price paid, which was expect a few faults, maybe a small cabin, mediocre service and entertainment. Well, the ship exceeded all my expectations. Old but Gold. Big, well furnished inside cabin, a largish bathroom, plenty cupboard space, TV with many channels if you needed to watch it. Lots of electric sockets. The formal dining room served excellent food, although you had to ask for more vegetables and for butter with your bread. The soups and salads were tasty, the fish, meat etc also of a good standard and also the puddings. The buffet selection was vast and also had some stand out dishes, the carvery being one of them. Plenty of space even on the days at sea. Excursions were very well run and keenly priced. Embarkation and Disembarkation was quick and efficient in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The basic drinks package is ample. 3 small minus points. Entertainment in the main theater was awful. Saying that the musicians in the other bars etc were good. The crew are too eager to sell you the upgrade drink package. Agadir is not a good destination, please consider another canary island instead. This was mentioned to me by various people on the cruise of different nationalities. Read Less

Having read other reviews, i was expecting a downmarket experience with good, if that, food. Having experienced it, I have quite a different reaction. The food was very good, English food (e.g. a full English or European breakfast or fruit is possible for breakfast) so you may be disappointed if you want Spanish food. The food was generally hot, which in a buffet is impressive. If you want a higher standard of food, then there are bookable restaurants at about £15 a time - or you can have waiter service on Deck 4. The only drawback is the poor choice for children’s food, even though they had additional laid on because of the Easter holiday. I was wondering how they were going to fit a family of four into a cabin, and had visions of an over-crowded room. The solution: bunk beds. Impressive, and they still allowed for a lot of space to use. Basically, the food and the cabin far exceeded my expectations. The shore excursions were good - maybe overpriced, but good. My advice: if you going on the Hop-on Hop-off buses, you may find it cheaper doing it directly. The entertainment on board was average, but if you like singers who substitute finesse for volume, pub quizzes, bingo or slot machines, then you’ll be fine. The Kids Club was good and very useful. Overall, whilst improvements can be made, I don’t have a negative review of any aspect of this cruise. Read Less

This is a port-heavy cruise ideal for those whose primary goal is to get their first taste of the amazing Canary Islands as efficiently as possible and at an affordable price. The crowd was mostly 60+ and Spanish, with a sprinkling of other Europeans, however, all announcements were made in both Spanish and English and all staff could speak at least some English. Horizon is an older, mid-sized, refurbished ship, but everything was clean, everything worked properly and service was excellent. Food was plentiful and more than adequate in quality. A large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages was already included in the cruise cost. Entertainment and activities were limited and often in Spanish only, but with so many hours in the ports, we did not really need them. The islands are amazing, but one must get out of the ports to appreciate their beauty. In Lanzarote, a ship-organized tour of the Lunar Landscapes of Timanfaya is a must. Other islands are best explored by taxi which are affordable and plentiful. Those who do not speak any Spanish would benefit from reserving English-speaking drivers ahead of time. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we had not cruised the Canary Islands before and all our previous cruises over the last 15 years have been with Tui, now known as Marella Cruises. Having read many reviews of this ship did give me some concern but our experience was excellent, my party consisted of three family couples all over 65. Food excellent, all staff excellent, entertainers excellent. What more can I say. We did have a disappointing meal in the Asian restaurant but this was resolved to our total satisfaction. Full refund plus a free upgrade meal with wine in the main restaurant the following evening. Can’t complain about that at all. Show bar entertainment was up to usual standard, we usually ended our evening in the casino playing the tables, which was all in good humour and good fun. Overall an excellent cruise, which was followed up by a weeks stay in Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife. Read Less

For context, we are Princess people and have also cruised with P and O and NCL. Chose this cruise due to itinerary, date and regional flight. Knew it would not be as special as Princess and so it turned out but was very enjoyable and decent value for money. The flights, transfers and embarkation/disembarkation arrangements were excellent. Things that were better: size of cabin and bathroom, drinks prices, included tips. Things that were worse: bar service was a bit offhand, slow and they did not know how to serve certain drinks; food in the main restaurant was nothing special (we did try Kora La, the Asian restaurant which was very good); felt crowded on the day at sea. The worst comparison however was the "entertainment" - the theatre shows had excellent dancing but terrible singing and the two bands playing in the lounges were just dire and far far too loud. A grand piano sat untouched in Tides while the pianist was stuck in a closed room and the "party band" could be heard above him! The quizzes were badly presented and indeed all the entertainment staff seemed too young and far from interested. Two really bad things that I will be taking up with the company - I have never been as ripped off as paying £15 for the use of the safe and far more importantly the safety briefing commenced 2 minutes after we boarded while people were still finding their cabins and no effort was made to ensure everyone attended; worth mentioning that the medical questonnaires were dumped in a heap on a table and not counted or presumably checked. We also greatly missed the central atrium as there was literally nowhere quiet to chat in the evenings. In summary, a decent week away but not one I would consider suitable for any kind of "big trip"/special occasion. Read Less

Before you go thinking we have just returned from the best Cruise Ship in the World, think again. Those of us who leave reviews have either had a bad experience or had a great time and in reading this remember that out of a thousand plus passengers per week only a handful of reviews are ever left. This assumes that most had a satisfactory holiday. My wife and I are in our sixties and fit and healthy; this is either are fourth or fifth cruise with Thompsons/TUI not quite sure. We have travelled with Royal Caribbean, MSC, NCL and Saga over recent years. Some passengers, rather unfairly, likened The Marella Dream to a ‘Ferry’. At fifty five thousand tonnes it is a lot smaller than its modern counterparts but it was built as a cruise ship and remains a cruise ship so any comparison hold no water. When comparing cruises an impartial observer may well find that TUI will be lacking in many areas. The ships across the range are leased/bought from Companies who have off-loaded old stock in favour of newer bigger ships and can be perceived as ‘outdated’ compared with modern facilities – but do not let that influence you. For us TUI has something money cannot buy, an ambience and friendliness and a quality of service that are quintessentially English and this is why it appeals to us so much and why you should take reviews (perhaps including this one) with a degree of skepticism. The ship was built in 1985/1986 and although it has gone through a number of refurbs it’s thirty plus years does show. That said our inside cabin was more than adequate, very clean, plenty of wardrobe space, and on deck six was very quiet. We understand the toilet vacuum system has caused problems but we did not experience this and the shower was always hot so no issues for us. We did not go on any of the excursions, but they were reasonably priced compared with our previous experiences with other cruise lines. No problems with the food always hot and caters for the English palate which we like. Dined in the main restaurant most nights great service and good food. We opted for the all-inclusive package, which we felt was value for money. TUI always put a lot of work into their entertainment programme and this was reflected in the presentation of the shows although some of the vocals was not that strong. We have grandchildren and although we have taken them on the TUI Discovery a couple of years ago most of the fleet are not in our view appropriate for children, there is not enough for them to do, this is also true of very young children where the cabins are simply not adequate enough to look after their needs properly. This ship is for geared more towards couples/singles. We have also noticed that many complaints relate to the inadequate facilities for those with mobility issues. Whilst clearly there are disabled facilities, this ship was built over thirty years ago when the needs of the disabled would not have been a priority and whilst TUI appear to do their best, to change steel girders and half inch plate steel is not an option so if you are needing disabled facilities think whether this ship is right for you. Joining the ship was fine. Our return flight was late afternoon and we were pleasantly surprised to find that we were timed to leave the ship early afternoon and our ship card remained fully active. This contrasts with our experience with other cruise lines, who want you off the ship regardless of when your plane leaves and we have experienced waits of several hours at the airport as a result. There were a few minor issues for us. A charge for use of a safe is out dated and there was sometimes long waits for waiters when ordering drinks and we hope that with the general move by cruise lines into ‘all inclusive’, that waiter service is not drastically cut or removed as we found in our experience on the Norwegian Epic last year where getting a drink became a scrum at the bar due to a significant reduction in waiting staff. We also found it rather strange that there was a charge for coffee in the Coffee Lounge when a ten second walk to the bar allowed you to get exactly the same for no payment. In conclusion if you are looking for a reasonably priced cruise, where there is always someone to chat with, good food which does not cater for every nationality in the world, reasonably priced drinks, friendly staff, good entertainment and an essentially English atmosphere then you will enjoy the experience. The ship is old but clean, and it wasn’t Pullmantur’s fault that the weather was bad and the seas rough, at least reception gave out free sea sickness pills. The cabin was large, and the beds comfortable and food better than normal cruises. Good dancers, and an excellent trip round Lanzarote due to a fab Brazilian guide. But, we were under the main restaurant and each night it sounded like a metal barrel rolling above our heads, and the ships engines were very noisy so most nights you woke up. We had first dining (7.30, second was 9.45). The one show was at 9, twice it was for Spanish speakers only, and 5 times the dinner overran the start of the show, once we waited 45m to be served. Hardly any entertainment in the day, most at night. Not enough tables for lunch. Bar staff at two bars rude. Drinks package as all inclusive didn’t, for example, include a gin and tonic, just a gin. The extra drinks package, at 90euros, didn’t include the ‘gin bar’. Things that you expect, eg transfers, or maps at the stopping ports, not included, neither are tips or port taxes which are hefty. It seemed a cheap cruise but actually it wasn’t. Hardly saw staff for first few days, actually thought the upstairs restaurant was self clearing, but that got better by the end. Staff looked fed up. So did the passengers. Queued up with other Brits to complain, which I have never done on a cruise before. WiFi, pretty expensive, didn’t work for over a day and no refund given. Asked for advice from reception re the ports, was told they don’t give maps or advice, check the internet. Problems with disembarking, confusing advice and was booked flights through same company which left at 7pm, was told it would cost another 25 euros per person to stay on boat, so left, got ordinary bus 7.50 e. per person, to airport. No one from my family, or others we shared dining tables with, would go with Pullmantur again. Have never said that about a cruise line before. Read Less

My husband and I chose this cruise to coincide with my birthday and to spend a holiday with our four friends. We have cruised with Thomson twice before on The Spirit and had a great time. This ship, however, was grubby and lacking in toiletries and decent towels. They had reduced the number of courses from four or five to three. Also there seemed to be a shortage of staff (they were busy cleaning everywhere or were sick!).We were told by previous passengers who were disembarking that day that there was an outbreak of sickness and dirorreah the week before but the Captain denied this. He said that the increase in sanitation and constant hand spraying was down to a changeover of passengers! We were not allowed to pour our own milk in our tea. touch any serving tongs or take any food from the buffet restaurant! The restaurant food was ok most of the time but we preferred the small restaurant on the 11th floor for breakfast and lunch. On the final day of our holiday, I sufferred with chronic dirorreah and projectile vomiting. I went to the medical centre and was unfortunatly bad while I was there. I was very surprised that there was only one toilet for the ladies which would not flush!!! Luckily, by the time our coach arrived to take us to the airport, I felt a little better and decided to take the risk and fly home. On a positive note, the staff were pleasant and the shows were good. We did not go on any of the organised trips but went ashore with our friends and had a lovely time with them We had two days at sea as we could not stop at La Palma as the weather was bad and the ship could certainly have done with more entertainment!!! I certainly would never go on this ship again. Read Less

This is the worst cruise we have ever had in all our days of cruising. The first 2 nights our room thermostat was broken and it was freezing, when it was fixed it went the other way and was really hot, finally a new one was put in. The 4th night the toilet overflowed and raw sewage was all over the floor. Our cabin was on deck 7 and at the rear of the ship, wow the ship just vibrated and everything in the room just vibrated all night, the only time it stopped was when we were in port. We were right under a nightclub, and fair enough the band stopped at midnight, then it was the turn of the disco till 3-4 in the morning, if you go stay away from that area. When the ship was in port most days the crew would do there duties, like painting and so forth, but a needle gun chipping the old paint off and a angle grinder making all that noise, it was like being at work. The worst bit for me was on the morning we had to leave the ship, I must have eaten some thing odd, we left the ship at 8-30 and our flight back was at 12-40, we took off and I couldn't wait to go to the toilet, I spent most of the journey home in the toilet being sick and diarrhoea, spent 4 days in bed and the doctor said it was food poisoning. This was all told to TUI in a e-mail and the reply back was what I expected, in so many words of quoting " the terms and conditions" nothing can be done, SO SORRY, and you can get sick on holiday, so they say. My advice stay away from TUI . cheep yes but can be nasty James Read Less

This was our first time we had been away for christmas, the canary islands and was also our first cruise. I travelled with my wife and 2 children ( in their twenties ). We had looked at the reviews beforehand and so we had an idea what to expect! The ship is a bit dated but didn`t really bother us that much. Our cabin although also a little dated, was always kept clean and tidy by our cabin steward ( room 7145 ). We ate at the orion five times and the other 2 nights we ate at the lido buffet. I must say that the food was very similar at both these sites. The breakfast was also a bit hit and miss. We were also all inclusive but we didn`t upgrade. The entertainment at the broadway lounge was actually okay with one of the female singers especially having a good voice. They worked hard and put on some good shows. The comedian we had one night was also very good along with the carol service on christmas eve. We didn`t take part in any part of the daytime activities apart from the spa ( we all had a hot stone massage ). The service throughout the ship was first class and everyone always had time for a smilehink and a hello. I did think it was abit strange tough that we didn`t need our life jackets during the safety drill. We made our own way around the canary islands and madeira and so i cant comment on the tui excursions. I dont think we had much time either in any of the Islands ( maybe this is the norm on cruises ) My wife however became ill on our last night, thursday 28 th december. We had just visited lanzarote and were sailing back overnight to tenerife. The journey was a bit to and fro! During our last few hours on the ship on the friday, the staff were serving food and drinks to everyone and there was a clampdown on hygiene. the amount of people on this cruise who coughed and sneezed over the buffet was disgusting. Also not everyone washed their hands after going to the toilet !!!! You cannot blame the ship itself or the staff themselves if people have bad habits ! I am glad we went on this cruise but i dont think i would cruise ever again. Read Less

What a way to spend Christmas. My friends and I all arrived in Tenerife to spend the festive time on board Pullmantur Horizon and journeying around lovely hot Canary Islands. All aboard on the 21st December 2017 with our first experience of this lovely ship though an elderly lady of the seas ! . The Spanish ran ship has a good mix of British, Spanish and other nationalities. All announcements are first made in Spanish then English. The ship needs continual tender loving care especially on the outer deck areas. Our Cabin was spacious, comfortable and above all squeaky clean. Our luggage arrived speedily which gave us chance to change and explore the ship. Although room service is only once a day this was more than adequate for our needs. Our first place to seek out was the buffet and pool bar. Very impressed with the quality and layout of the main buffet, not the greatest of choice but the quality was excellent and there is a selection for vegetarians and non gluten guests. The standard drinks package included in the price was ok but limited on choice. We chose to upgrade for an extra €10 a day and this was really good value for money as we then had a much greater choice of drinks. We decided as group to eat at the second sitting in the lovely main restaurant. For all the menu has a set choice each evening that does not change, there is a daily À la cart. We enjoyed our time in the restaurant and aboard ship especially the entertainment in the theatre and above all the friendly atmosphere created by all the members of crew and officers. This cruise was certainly value for money and I not only recommend it but we will cruise again with them. Read Less

As a first time cruiser I didn't know what to expect..This was the best holiday that I have had. We went all inclusive and as I drink Smirnoff, this was on the drinks package, you can upgrade to premium, but I didn't bother. There were 8 of us and we usually managed to sit together. The waiter Joseph was exception as was the wine waiter Alpha, No queuing at the bar....drinks were brought to you. Food was very good, especially in the Orion restaurant, it was amazing. Cabins were clean with plenty of space Lifts were a bit slow but hey ho....no rush We went ashore every day and the ports were close to the shops, we didn't go on the day at sea, could have got wet. Entertainment was good...all in all, the trip was worth every penny...would I go on this ship again....YES I certainly would. PS..the lifeboat drill was a laugh, but it had to be done Read Less

please do not go on this ship if you are in a wheelchair or have poor mobility. it is totally unsuitable, the ship is shabby and threadbare carpets the cabins, and we had a suite are totally unsuitable very poor. the food is rubbish even when u spend extra to have a steak was all fatty and grisly. the entertainment is not much except for the band in the riverside who I must say were very good as were the bar staff in there the only plus on the trip. Was the holiday from hell, awful do not go on this ship. We travelled with three children my youngest who is 12 is in a wheelchair good job its a small one or he would not of even fitted through the doors let alone into the shower room which was totally unsuitable. the only good staff where in the riverside I found others very rude. this trip has put me off cruising for good would never go on another one. Have just returned from 7 night holiday on the Marcella dream...once arriving in Tenerife embarkation was simple..plane to coach...coach to ship, staff waiting on board to take you straight to your cabin...allow couple of hours for your luggage to show, but this is not a problem,as ample bars and grills and restaurants all serving fabulous scrummy food...superb restaurant also open at set times, with wonderful waiting staff and bar waiters at hand constantly, always with a smile...we were alinclusive, there was also a premium package...3 al-a-Carte restaurants also, with a small supplement....but fantastic food....The cabin, outside with window, was spacious and comfy, and steward came in twice daily, even turned bed down at night...with chocolate on your pillow!! Entertainment shows were remarkable..very professional, and on twice nightly,,shore excursions maybe slightly pricey, but we got off and done our own thing...there are kiddy’s clubs and two pools+kiddy pool...all in all ..excellent value for money...disembarkment was simple to...luggage taken off ship for you..and you pop it on coach at the terminal.. We were disappointed with the marella dream ship it was our 3rd time going on the ship we found standards had dropped the ship is tired. The food was mediocre sometimes cold and the menu limited. The show team were good but the other singers I think have been drawn from the ships crew and to say the least have limited talent. In the evening we struggled to find seating in all the venues. We found it frustrating trying to get served for drinks the waiters do not seem to cordinate the way they covered the venues , sometimes we felt invisible as they just walked aimlessly around . The all inclusive drinks package is not all inclusive there are supplements for many drinks . This caused confusion to say the least and is quite misleading If you want a far better ship try the discovery 2 . We did last June and can recommend the ship 100%. Read Less
