7 Family members joined us on this cruise to help celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. Some family were first time cruisers and others have cruised with us before. The Sun Princess did not disappoint with staff that always exceeds our expectations, all of the staff just work so hard to make sure we all have a fabulous cruising experience and this cruise was no exception. Weather was great nice calm seas all the way to Hong Kong. We dined in the Share Restaurant which once again was Amazing!! Totally recommend this dining experience as food and service is A+ The only negative is that the smoking area is very prominent and very smelly on Sun Princess as you walk out on to open deck everyone sitting right there, I have been on other Princess Ships where the smoking area is much smaller and you never even see it but hopefully one day all Princess ships will finally become Non Smoking vessels which would be great. Lots of room around the pool and getting a lounger was never a problem. We all really enjoyed our cruise and looking forward to planning the next :-) Read Less

We chose this cruise firstly because it left Sydney harbour, secondly because it arrived in Hong Kong harbour and then for what was in between. We visited Brisbane and did a tour of town, lunch some shopping etc. Our next stop was Darwin where we went to Crocasaurus cove and did the cage of death with a croc, awesome. We visited Lombok where we snorkelled with Gemma from Mimpi Manis Snorkel Trips for the day, then to Ho Chi Minh City where we did a day tour with the ship, it was awesome. We visited Nha Trang also with the ship, we just could not have fitted it all in without these tours, we saw heaps. But the highlight for us was Hong Kong. 2 nights with the ship which was a very good idea, then we were on our own. We loved all the sea days at the beginning of the cruise and totally got into trivia, read a couple of books, great weather for swimming every day, the only thing I would say is there is just not enough shade around the pools, especially the back round one, (Sun Princess) but even around the other 2 the ones under the upper level get snapped up so fast. A pet peeve is seeing people in the pool or spa that are drinking and they dont move for sometimes over an hour, you know who you are and dont think that no one notices. This was for our 30th wedding anniversary and we booked at Share by Curtis Stone for our special dinner. The food was very nice but I came away feeling cheated, I really dont feel like we vot our moneys worth. Also I swear, unless my math is wrong, you actually pay $2.00 more for the fixed menu then buying a la carte...as I said maybe I'm wrong. I do think there is still work to be done on getting people off the ship in a timely manner at ports, Nha Trang was a disaster getting off, and there were a few hot heads letting steam off at staff that are just giving numbers out etc that have nothing to with how long it takes go get you off the ship. We had such a good time, the food was good, far too good for my waistline, the staff were friendly, my room was always clean and tidy, good coffee at the International cafe, no where else though, but bring ba k happy hour, what is the deal with that....its a great way to meet people. Now, I wonder what my next cruise will be......Princess of course!! Read Less

Our first Princess cruise. Very impressed with the ship, the calibre of the food and activities. Our cabin was a really good size. We always opt for single beds. It seems to give you more space that way. All staff on board were really helpful. I found the cruise Director rather boring but really loved the personality and drive of the Assistant Cruise Direct Marcus. The staff at all the bars and restaurants were top class. A big shout out to Cecilio who looked after us in the Regency every evening and spoilt us rotten. Would have loved to take him home. Got looked after by Vincent and Roy in the Horizons Buffet and Honey in the Pizza Place. Also a big shout out to my friend Chris (Tom Cruise as we called him) in the Pool Bar. Loved your cocktails and the ribs and buffalo wings were to die for. Found the shows very disappointing but did enjoy the Irish comedian and Nathan Foley was an exceptional singer. Found the talks very boring and uninformative. The woman talking had no personality and her voice was monotone. Some of her information was not accurate at all and I heard a lot of people complained about this. Loved the itinerary we did. Visited some amazing countries. I was impressed with the speed of getting off and on in ports and when we disembarked it was very quick. Formal nights were amazing and the free cocktails were a hit with us kiwis. I definitely love cruising with Princess and can't wait for my next Princess cruise on the Diamond in 75 days. Count down is on. Found embarkation very slow. Took 2 hours from memory. Painful long queues, but once on board, that was all forgotten. Read Less

We embarked in Sydney and found the process easy and quick. It was a sparkling Sydney day, and it was a public holiday (Easter Monday) so it seemed everybody on and off Sun Princess was in holiday mood. There was a minimum of waiting in line and the staff were helpful and ultra pleasant. We must have received 20 "Welcome Aboard" and "Enjoy your cruise with us" by the time we reached our state room. We had been up-graded from a Balcony to a Mini-suite! Nobody could tell us why, but it was a great way to start our cruise. Our bags were lost on embarkation and there was an anxious wait leading up to departure and beyond, when the bags failed to turn up. The staff were helpful however and the bags had lost their i.d. tags in handling. They were waiting for us at Customer Services on Deck 5. No problems. The seas were flat all the way. The food was beyond our expectations. In the Regency Dining Room the staff were first rate and the company on our table of 8 were a diverse bunch and we enjoyed their company. We conversed with anybody and everybody on board and found our fellow cruisers always pleasant and helpful. The range and quality of food in Horizons, the Pizzeria and the Poolside food outlets (ice-cream and hamburgers, or sundaes and hot dogs) was all fabulous, and except for a few small gripes, we were very happy. Will I mention the small gripes? OK - American honey tastes like golden syrup, the espresso coffee was variable quality depending who made it and where you got it - small things really. We didn't make use of most activities, but I noticed that every day could be filled with activities if you wanted it that way. We were more content to laze by the pools, walk the uninterrupted boardwalk of Deck 7, read and laze about in our luxurious room. We did go to a show one night and the singers and dancers were energetic and pretty good. The casino was a good diversion on a couple of occasions and coincidentally, the machines were good to us. The outdoor movies were great and we enjoyed alternating between pool, spa and lounger in the balmy tropical air. Mid-night snacks, high teas, long lunches, ice cold beer, prompt and affordable room service were on tap. What a life! In Darwin, disembarkation/embarkation was from Port facilities and went without a hitch. In Benoa, Bali disembarkation was via lifeboats after anchoring in the bay. This process is not so smooth. It took over an hour to fill the large catamaran tour boat and the process of getting on an off the lifeboats appeared chaotic and fraught with waiting and leaping over a lurching deck. The elephant ride excursion was filled before leaving port, so that was disappointing (tip: book tours when you book the cruise). The Highlight of the cruise was the quality of the staff. They were intent on making us comfortable, especially the Dining waiters and Room stewards. The pre-port talks and information on ports was entertaining and accurate. Much appreciated. Improvements could be made to the captains log information on the TV - there is a minimum of information provided, and no weather reports. I would like to know the names of the islands and land masses that can be seen ashore. Cruisers who want more should take an atlas or maps, but that's just me I suppose. I personally don't like plastic mugs for coffee and lemonade. They do keep liquids hot and/or cold however, it gave the feel of a nursing home or hospital. I personally did not like JJ Ulrich, the Cruise Director. He was never seen except when speaking with Ships Officers and on TV daily reading the list of the days activities. He is brash, hard to understand and his sense of humour, if that's what it is, is just smart arse and rude. It was an outstanding holiday. We were impressed with the loyalty program and the benefits for repeat cruisers. We will go again because the cruising is a complete package and good value too. Read Less
