We wanted to visit some areas of NZ within the comfort of a cruise ship. We chose Princess as the itinerary suited the time we wanted to go. The interior of the ship was lovely. There had been a refurbishment in 2018. Lovely new carpets throughout and some new furniture. While we were on this cruise the Medallion was introduced. It was in the testing phase so we had to carry our cruise card as well. As you approached your cabin the sensor picked up that you were near and the door unlocked automatically. As this innovation takes off I can see many more positives. Sensor lights had been introduced into staterooms. When you got up in the night a little light at the bottom of the bedside table automatically came on as did the light in wardrobe area. The entertainment was very good. A young Irish band called ‘Emerald Tide’ had been employed by the ship for 4 months. They were excellent. Singing Irish folk songs and other popular contemporary songs. One of the girls in the band as performed Irish dancing ...she was very good. It was unfortunate that we were unable to visit Akaroa or Fiordland, however the weather conditions were not good .....nothing can be done about that though. Read Less

One of our bucket list items was to visit New Zealand, overall the cruise was good and we visited some great places. Only downside is the excursions booking thru Princess are to expensive so l would suggest to anyone book once you go ashore at destinations and you will save a lot of money. Food and dining was good with great wait staff who where friendly and helpful. The Ruby Princess is a ship that we think needs refurbishment as it is starting to show wear and tear. Entertainment was ok without being brilliant but we enjoyed what we attended. When booking your cruise the dining times are stated incorrectly as we booked for 7.15pm however when you get on board it is actually 7.30pm, a couple of nights we did not get our eat till 8.15 so l would suggest booking the earlier seating and if you need to eat later go to Horizons upstairs. This was our first cruise. I had read a lot about the no goes and experiences made by others. My and family and I are definitely very positive about our first experience. The 14 days went in a blink of an eye. The ship has a great team and everybody is welcoming and carrying. The team is the dining room was very nice and was always supportive and friendly. You find that not in always in the restaurant industry. The kids enjoyed the kids club and made a lot of new friends. The entertainment was great and very diversified. So the all age groups got something to enjoy. We bought the internet package for 9 $ a day which was the money worth. The only negative experience was the excursion into Wellington, the time was much too short. We could hardly enjoy the Museum and the cable car. I would to suggest to extend the time or explore on your own. All other excursions was just perfect Great start for our new alternative of holidays. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the locations it was scheduled to visit. The Cities in Australia were varied and all were interesting and friendly. Thankfully the fires were not threatening Sydney or Melbourne while we were there. I wish them well as the fires have gotten worse. The visit to Tasmania was even better. The Fiordlands NP was great, but I wondered why the sites visited were so far apart. Finally every city we visited in New Zealand was interesting. I did wonder why we were subjected to a tender ferry in Akaroa instead of of porting in Christchurch. The hours spent on busses going to and from Christchurch while scenic, really detracted from the time available to tour. As for the ship, I did notice the public areas were kept at a lower temperature than what I thought appropriate especially since the outside temps were consistently below 70 degrees. The ship staff was for the most part very good at their jobs. The exception was bartenders who seem to make up prices on their own. I liked the decor of the ship and my cabin was great especially the double sized balcony. I wasn't particularly fond of the entertainment but I knew the focus would not be on particular style music I am accustomed to, so that wasn't an issue. Also it was kind of funny to see elderly Chinese cruisers rock to the OJ's "Love Train". I want to publicly thank two of the entertainment staff, Niki Sexton, and Tanya Scott. You two made this trip special for me Thanks Much. Read Less

Always wanted to see Australia and New Zealand. It was disappointing, Hobart and Tauranga were good, but the other ports were not interesting. The crew was great. Management was not to be seen very often. The customer service desk was disorganized, except for Yesemena. There are no set lines and guests did not know where to line up, so there was line jumping and walking ahead of people waiting. This caused confusion, anger, and hostility. The food was good, not much variety. The International Cafe with it’s coffee card deal has great gourmet coffee and specialty coffees at a set price of $39.00 is a good deal. However, the computer did not account properly for the specialty coffee allowed, and we had to correct them twice. The crew was really great, and the shows were mostly good. My wife and I liked the interior cabin and we had a good cabin steward. We paid for the thermal suite and the lockers, the showers and the dressing room was PUBLIC, DEFINITELY NOT WARTH THE PRICE. I chose this cruise to fulfill my bucketlist excursion to Tasmania AND New Zealand. Tasmania and New Zealand did not disappoint but the cruiseship did for a single traveler. Despite having been on Princess cruises with an active single program, this ship offered NOTHING for singles. On Princess You pay 200% as a single cruiser but you get nothing for the extra cost. The evening shows were often good with the orchestra and Princess dancers, but guest entertainers were average at best. The Christmas Eve show was very well produced and entertaining. However, the Christmas Eve show was magnificent. The service is sporadic by crew members. Cabin attendant was good at keeping cabin neat and in order, but unlike other cruises nothing extra, like towel animals, or cutesies. I feel this is due to the cabin stewards having numerous rooms to clean and no extra time for extras. Room Service and Ronald were super at delivering coffee and heavy cream first thing every morning as requested but room service menu has little variety. Service in dining room was from fair to excellent depending on wait staff working the table. Overall average service but the occasional table in open dining had a waiter who really made the passenger feel welcome. I book cruises based on where I want to visit, and then cost but if I was choosing by ship, this would probably be a last choice. As usual with Princess, you can find the same excursions online at viator or in port for 25-50% less. Again Loved Tasmania and New Zealand but cruise was lacking the special flare I hope for on a Christmas cruise (great decorations but lacking lots of holiday spirit!) Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. Being in a suite, we received many on board perks which included having an extended room service menu which we utilised for breakfast on 3 occasions. We also ate breakfast in The Crown Grill 3 times, another suite advantage, the service there was excellent. However we opted to eat in Club Class Dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner most of the time. Club Dining is a terrific innovation, we were greeted by name after our very first visit and the service and quality of food was excellent. We were disappointed with the standard of most of the entertainment which was below par and not what we expected. The production shows were good as was one of the guest singers but a man playing with a yo yo and spinning tops was not suitable for the main showroom, this act belonged in a shopping centre, entertaining children. The lack of enrichment lectures was also disappointing and the port lectures were badly timed. We never went to the Horizon so cannot comment. Overall, we had a wonderful cruise, this was due to the staff, especially our room steward Enrique and the lovely Club Class Dining crew. Read Less

We chose this as our first Xmas Cruise, it could have been oh so much better. Embarkation was brilliant. 15 minutes from getting out of the taxi with our baggage to arriving in our Cabin. We've done a few cruises now, this was the quickest embarkation by far. Captain set the tone before the Emergency Muster, by telling parents to take charge of their children. Ship crew and other passengers were not responsible for other parents children, any misbehavior would result in said children and their parents being put off at the next port. Well done to the Captain for spelling out how people were to conduct themselves. Worked a treat for the entire cruise. Ship public areas very neat and clean. Furniture is looking a tad old and the interiors could do with some serious brightening up but otherwise very good. If anything, the Piazza on Deck 5 could do with a lot more chairs, simply not enough of them considering the numbers of people who wished to avail themselves of a snack and coffee (awful more later). Our dining was fixed at 5pm Botticelli Dining Room, Table 85. Our Waiter was Ed and he was fantastic. Knew everything he needed to know be it food or wine, his service was great. Very cheerful, lots of friendly banter between us, made dining a pleasure Cabin - see Cabin Review below. Entertainment was very very lack lustre and focused a lot on the Americans onboard. Given we're in Australian and New Zealand waters, entertainment from that part of the world would have been good. Presentations other than port visits and from a New Zealand Wildlife Ranger were non existent. Music from the band and others was good but rather repetitive. Food, in the Dining Room we had excellent food, lots of it and good choices. The Buffet was awful, way too much focus again on American food, lots of very sweet stuff sickly sweet especially the desserts. No toasters in the Buffet to do your own toast. The Egg Station was very good as it should be. At least Vegemite was provided but you had to go looking for it, ditto butter and margarine. International Cafe where the coffee was, simply disgusting. Coffee was often burnt, using Dark Roasted Beans that were bitter. Milk was UHT Long Life RUBBISH ditto the Cream and the Ice Cream onboard. Given that both Australia and New Zealand are elite Dairy nations there is absolutely NO excuse to serve up such crap to passengers. White Sugar as well, not a crumb of Raw Sugar onboard. The Barrista's were efficient and prompt service but they were often outnumbered by people wanting a coffee, the queue at one stage was over 50 people waiting. Princess indeed all cruise lines really need to sort out their coffee because I've never had worse and the cafes ashore did a booming trade from passengers wanting GOOD coffee not CRAP. The Burger and Pizza Slice bar was good. Again nicely made, tasty and plenty of it. Drink prices were DISGUSTING. Princess get their alcohol at Duty Free Prices yet they were charging more for ordinary drinks than pubs etc etc here in Australia or New Zealand were. In other words passengers are being ripped right off. Same with the Wine List, I couldn't believe the prices charged for wines that were cheaper to buy here in Australia at Dan Murphys. So we chose to have our drinks ashore plus we brought back onboard our own soft drinks again oh so much cheaper than $3.75 a coke can. Curtis Stone's restaurant SHARE is oh so worth a visit. We had a wonderful 6 course meal on Xmas Night. Great waiter with a wonderful view thrown in looking over the stern of the ship. Food was beautifully cooked, presented and tasted delicious. Can't say the same for the Crown Grill. I received a 500 gram Rib Eye that was HALF Fat and Gristle, disgusting in fact one of the worst steaks I've ever eaten on any cruise anywhere in the world. Some years ago we cruised on the Sea Princess, the steakhouse on her, you were presented with the raw steaks so you could select your steak cut accordingly. Not here. Other than that given we had a bland entree as well, I wouldn't bother. Dessert was the highlight here which brightened up the night somewhat. We did 2 Shore Excursions, namely the Picton Sound morning cruise, was sensational if a tad cold. Wonderful narration by the ships captain who gave us a detailed narration of the history, the wildlife and flora of the region. The sun broke through as we turned for home so we got to see some dolphins as well. Our 2nd Shore Excursion was the 7 Hour Disembarkation Tour of Auckland. Our bus driver Ian was just sensational, lots of banter going back and forth between Ian and us Aussies onboard. The Auckland Aquarium was delightful, lunch in North Auckland lovely and the Sky Tower view great. Watching some goose screaming their head off as they plummeted to the ground in around 5 seconds was interesting. Speaking of Disembarkation, passengers were off and processed by the Kiwi's so fast the porters were struggling to get their luggage off the ship quick enough. Again around 15 minutes from ship to shore, onboard our coach for our tour, can't fault that. Read Less

Lack of signage on stairwell and floors. theatre too small and countless passengers were reserving seats. Great experience in da vinci. Buffet could of had better selection of hot vegetables. disappointing in lack of xmas food. No cherries. Strawberriess mince pies. Xmas cake. Excellent service in stateroom and dining rooms. very disappointed in size of theatre and the amount of passengers reserving seats every night except day 14. we were in theatre more than 30 minutes before show. no crew monitoring reservation of seats. I love Princess , but had never done a Christmas New Year Cruise so I done three back to back. 13/12/19 - 13/01/20 This turned out to be more of a P&O Australia Cruise . The Low quality and not the usual expectation from Princess. This surprised me as there were a lot of Americans on board who usually expect more. Sadly as the cruise progressed each segment the more disappointed I became. I have completed 17 Princess Cruises , this is the first one I was not unhappy to disembark. The front line staff (waiters etc.) were still excellent , but they appeared not to get the support from the back room staff. There also appears to be less staff creating a heavier workload. The Admin and Guest Relations staff rely on hiding behind a facade of a team so that the incompetence can be concealed. This only works with the collaboration of management. The Buffet was soup kitchen standard obviously flavoured with an abundance of msg. There was little of no fruit for the whole 31 days. If the ship inability to handle the swell , it may be more indicative of a reluctance to use the ships stabilisers to save fuel. Incompetent or of an indolent nature. Read Less

The children were really looked after, Princess gave each child a christmas present, and Santa arrived on time in his red sleigh, and the kids really enjoyed everything. Food was amazing, cannot fault. Our cabin was small but very functional, and the beds and pillows were excellent. My only complaint, would be that there were a large number on board, and as such on sea days, with the weather not playing the game, the public spaces were a bit small, it was hard to find an area where you could read or switch off. The entertainment on board, was excellent, we have done many cruises, and this was one of the best. We really enjoyed the daily, games and trivia, the hosts did a great job. Read Less

Made for an inexpensive front for a back to back. Upon arrival at pier found staff to be rude and demanding when I requested to carry my bag onboard with me. LACK OF SINGLES ACTIVITIES! The first single get together was nonexistent as no cruise activity staff bothered to show up. All ports were easy to explore without spending any money for shore excursions. The food was good but often lacked much variety in the buffet for healthy eating (Lacking in variety of fruits and berries) Many staff go above and beyond, but overall they seem to do what they need to to get by. A good example was with my coffee I prefer heavy whipping cream. Room service had it, no problem. In buffet one day told they did not have it but another day the Buffet steward quickly found me some. Same thing in Dining room at dinner during dessert. Some nights willingly found, other nights not available based on waiters efforts. . At sea activities lacked variety. Same stuff every cruise, not a lot of activities to get passengers involved in entertainment. Read Less

We chose this cruise as I had never done the South Pacific before. Embarkation was good and as we are Platinum card holders we were able to board at 11 AM which was great. The cabin was not available till 1 PM. Luggage was at our cabin by then. We first stopped off at Noumea. As it was a Sunday all the shops were closed. We caught a free shuttle to the centre of town as we docked in a container area and could not walk due to port traffic. The bus trip was short and sweet. Had a walk around town and found many tours available at the information centre where we were dropped off. These were at a much cheaper rate than booking through Princess. Next stop was Mystery Island. This is a very small island and you can swim in beautiful turquoise water but the sand is very sharp so wear reef shoes. Thongs are problematic as the sand still cuts your feet. You can hire goggles for $10 for half a day. Also book tours on the island cheap. Next port was Isle of Pines, it looked beautiful but we ran out of energy and did our washing that day. By all accounts it's the best island to visit. Moving on to the onboard experience; HAPPY HOUR is a thing of the past on Princess. A beer set you back $8.75 AU and was a standard price for all beers available. This has escalated from $5.50 to $6.80 less than two years ago which I thought was quite expensive. A Jim Beam and Coke was $9. We opted for self assisted Disembarkation and we were able to get off at 7.15 which enabled us to get to the airport in 1 hour to catch our flight back to Perth. All in all we think Princess is changing quite rapidly. The classic all in price dining is going out the window in favour of specialty restaurants with cover charges. There are even items on the traditional dining menu that have a cover charge attached. This I suppose enables cruise prices to stay relatively low and profits are made up with add-ons. Read Less

Before you embark on a cruise check the itineraryand the entertainment to see if it's going to be full of very old people. This cruise definitely catered for the zimmer brigade, even the night club was playing 50s walz music. mind you I wasn't sure if the DJ was alive during the cruise! Walz music with 1 couple on the floor, It's a night club!!!!! The stops around NZ were great and we had a ball but once back on ship it was carpet bowls and tossing the bean bags! The service was excellent however for us that's where it stopped! No leaving port parties on the back deck, very dull when you go away expecting to relax and have some fun! Even the formal nights were dogged by people turning up in T shirts and trackydacs! and this continued during the other dining nights. If they can't or won't make the effort, send them up to the buffet where they can add thongs to their daggy garb! The wine prices were outrageous! Even though the menu had wine starting at $42 per bottle they were all out of stock so you had to buy the $53 and aboveper bottle, worth $15. Shame!!! We have been on Princess before and it was 100% on this cronie cruise! Come on you guys market the cruises for everyone not just the sick and dying. I have been in multi national marketing for many years andI see this cruise marketing plan as a very poor effort. Read Less

First time on Princess and chose this cruise only for the Itinerary. Have been on other cruises including Oceania, Viking, Seabourn, Regent, Windstar and unfortunately Princess is not in the caliber of these other cruise lines.Ruby Princess is a nice ship, but rather tired and not well kept on the outside.Plenty rust to be seen on the outside of the ship which is surprising, because all the other ships we've been on are well maintained daily. The Good- Main dining rooms like Michelangelo - food and service is very good Internet service was very good Entertainment was good Cabin service was good Deck service was good The Bad- Horizons Casual eating - food was very, very average, boring and repetitive to the point, we stopped eating their, save for breakfast. Bugging points of Horizons - not enough tables, often saw 2 people hogging a table for 6, there should be some maitre organising proper seating. Also, you will never find a teaspoon for your coffee/tea in the cutlery rolled up into napkins on the table....why?? ,We kept on ridiculously having to get up for teaspoons every morning. Smoked salmon at breakfast, disappeared after the first 4 days, never to reappear during the voyage ???? Cabin bathroom - they supply that awful cheap and nasty liquid soap and it was a big deal to get a few tiny cakes of soap. Not enough towels in the bathroom, and kept on requesting more. Nickel and diming - The Princess business model appears to nickel and dime you for everything, including coffee and sodas and water, given for free on aforementionedlines. Why not just include in the cruise price a reasonable figure for this? Photographers became so annoying every day to take your pic; obviously a big profit center for Princess! Port times were good, except for Napier which left too early. Pity, because this is a great port. Port Chalmers - this port was chaotic and couldn't cope with 2 cruise ships in at the same time. Read Less

I took this cruise to get away and relax after a difficult few months since my last Princess Cruise in March 2019. The highlight of my cruise was cruising through all 3 Milford sounds etc. I have been on numerous cruises to New Zealand and this is the first time weather permitted all 3 channels! It was Brilliant! The other highlight, for me, was the Museum in Wellington which had a stunning war exhibit with sculptures of soldiers that were so lifelike that they brought tears to my eyes. Also, I wanted to try the Ruby as I had not been on her before. Staff were the usual Princess crew - highly motivated, charming and knowledgeable. In fact a couple (including the delightful Angela of Captains Circle) I had met before on previous cruises with Princess. Our first Princess Cruise and we were aboard the RUBY. The ship itself was a little disappointing compared to others we have been on. The air conditioning control was abysmal. The majority of the public areas you froze your a...e off. The mini golf was just that, MINI. There was no marked out holes just an expanse of green with three random cups (holes) scattered around. For the more adventurous there is no rock climbing wall, for the kids there is no water slide The shore excursions offered were good, our first time in Napier and we loved it. The food was A1 as were the wait staff and crew in general, although Guest Services was a little underwhelming. Our cabin was a slight disappointment, it was by far the smallest Balcony Cabin we have been in. However, the bed and pillows were sensational for comfort. Entertainment whilst not great was acceptable. Activities on sea days was comparable to other cruise lines, always something to get involved with or listen to. I liked the daily brain teasers from the library each day. On this particular cruise we found it to be value for money and that is why we cruised with Princess for the first time after normally finding Princess somewhat more expensive on comparable cruises compared to other cruise lines. The food at the Horizon Buffet restaurant became poorly after a few days. We were eating yesterday's food or leftovers. The coffee taps ran out of coffee. The water tap didn't work. stain marks on cutlery always. Dining at the Michelangelo restaurant was good and we received good service though menu didn't vary much from day to day. The complimentary food in the International Cafe was good, so was its coffee. It has a well-equipped gym to allow for physical exercises. We can walk comfortably on the Sun deck as well. We, Christians, appreciated very much a room specially dedicated for Bible Study. It was encouraging that we could gather together for fellowship everyday. Activities in the cruise were lame. A lot of time, it's doing the same thing over and over again though the crew members responsible were making good efforts. We noticed that most of the passengers were oldies. Maybe, that's the reason that the cruise was quite quiet, calm and peaceful. My very unpleasant experience: 28/11/2019 about 7:10 am I was feeling sick one morning while having breakfast in the buffet restaurant. i went into the nearest lady's room . All (2) cubicles were out of service. so I went into the one for disabled. I am an elderly lady (over 70 yrs old) so I considered myself eligible for the privilege of using the toilet for disabled. When I was ready to leave the washroom, I found that the exit door had been locked from outside. I was very annoyed and pressed the button for emergency. It took about 15 minutes (a very long time for the agitated me) before someone opened the door. I don't know how someone in the crew could play such a nasty trick on a harmless passenger. If I couldn't read English and seek help, I could panic and have a heart attack. i have heard that the Princess cruises are of high standard. This one is worse than disappointing. The ship was quite rundown in places. Water leaking occurred in several places. The drain pipe was blocked in the laundromat, causing the floor to flood when the washing machine was draining its water. It's advisable not to choose a cruise ship with a lengthy history. I was taking this cruise to relax, but several things as mentioned above have dampened my holiday. Maybe, the Ruby Princess ought to retire. Read Less

This Cruise was to experience Fiji & its different areas without me actually flying there, staying for a week or two & realising I was not enjoying the destination chosen. Eg Suva I would not visit again, Dravini Island was absolutely lovely, Nadi had nice hot weather, Savusavu & Loutouka also lovely ports to enjoy with awesome weather & places to visit. Vanuatu is always a favourite. Lovely people. The Princess Cruise line was very enjoyable. The bed & pillow were total comfort. Food, food, food. If anyone complains about the food, maybe their standards & expectations are rather high, although this is only my 2nd cruise. Such a variety & abundance of food, available 24/7. Staff onboard are all lovely. Passenger/staff ratio is very good. 3000 passengers v 1000 staff. Age group of cruise....Not many children at all. Majority of ages I would guess 55-85. The older age group were able bodied, meaning very few walkers or wheelchairs. Mostly couples travelling. Would highly recommend this cruise. The month of travel was extremely appropriate too. Not stifling hot & no storms or rain (except Suva but it rains everyday anyway). Read Less

I wanted to visit the islands in this itinerary after many years, but found that many should not have been included. Nothing to do except have a massage or have your hair braided on the beach. What a waste of port time. The ship is very rusty and for a ship just 11 years old it is poorly maintained. My Premium balcony was rusted all along the top and bottom. I thought the ship has been refurbished but apart from a new flat screen tv and bed with linen and quilt that were too heavy and hot for sleeping, there is no sign of a refurb. Staff were hit and miss. My cabin steward was unfriendly and grumpy most of the time, and the Botticelli waiters only cared for those buying alcohol. Very rude and rushed, they would put down cutlery for the next course while we were still eating the first course, as though to say hurry up we want to finish early. 3000 passengers mostly old and some quite rude is too much for a ship this size so there were crowds all of the time. The buffet became a nightmare because of the crowds and lack of tables. In port we thought there might be more space but it seems many passengers just stayed on board so the buffet became an unpleasant place. I will not be cruising Princess again. After many cruises with them this is the worst and their standards have dropped. All they want is your money and the upselling on board is tiring. The Spa staff would stand around at the elevators trying to sign you up to expensive treatments and the shop staff would have raffles just to entice you in. Never again. Read Less

This was our second time trying to see Fiji as an earlier cruise could not go there because of storms. Understandable. However from Day 1 toilet issues, unpleasant smells, internet dropouts, and earlier online excursions not showing on ships computer it was frustrating and infuriating. It almost looked like we were not going to make it to Fiji yet again. By Day 5 after MUCH reporting our toilet got fixed until the 2nd last day. The foul smells at times were overbearing. Lost our minutes on the mediocre internet which did get reissued. The Piazza area is far too small and dangerous. Often passengers were standing up and down the stairs to view the proceedings. Ruby Princess certainly had better days. Our first time on this particular ship. Our many other previous Princess cruises were great would not have any problem recommending it. A lot of other little things that pushed our COME BACK NEW to get us off here. My hubby hates flying so cruising is what we love to do. I have traveled with many of our family and friends. Choose well in future. The ship overall is small, feels claustrophobic. The dining was good. Most staff were pleasant however it was as if the right hand did not know what the left hand was doing. The safety drill was carried out in the Princess Theatre which was better than some other ships that have you standing up on the outside decks. Usually love the Princess line however Ruby did disappoint us. Read Less

Relaxing 2 weeks. Dining room was a highlight. Food was brilliant. All staff on board were friendly and helpful. Share by Curtis stone was really good. Would recommend. Needs more shared outdoor areas and more seating inside. Shows were good. Very smooth check in and disembarkation. An older crowd though so not that great got younger cruisers as the entertainment was directed to the older demographic. Other than that it was a nice cruise. Got to see some beautiful places. Dravuni was the most beautiful place I have seen. Spent the day swimming and hanging out with the locals. Getting to shore at our stops was easy and well planned. Our balcony room was great. Excellent wardrobe and storage. The bed was amazing. If I could I would of taken it home with me. Best sleep I’ve had in a long time. Would cruise princess again if just for that amazing bed! What Princess Cruise Lines won’t tell US citizens embarking from Australia. They will try to cheat you! 1. Although you purchase everything in US dollars, your onboard credit you were promised is not in US Dollars anymore, but in AUD. We were jipped! 2. TIP: Usually the tip is mandatory/included in most cruises for US citizens, but you do NOT have to pay the fixed tip for Embarking from Australia(there may be other countries too). They make it seem as if it is mandatory fixed tip, but it is not. We spoke to some Australians who said Princess bully’s US citizens into thinking its mandatory tip, but in fact it’s not. You can personally tip what you want to who you want. We tipped the servers/crew in cash. You have to be persistent when speaking to Guest services to make this change on your account. We spoke to 2 guest services representative & they kept saying the tip is mandatory, but that is NOT true. We were able to change it after speaking to another managing representative. You could definitely choose to have the automatic fixed tip distributed to the crew & that’s your prerogative. I’m just saying you have a choice/option to opt out & it’s not mandatory. You do have to use that “tip” money onboard. It came out to about $400 AUD for the 14 day cruise. I chose to buy other things onboard with that & pay cash tip. Hope this helps. 3. Jinex Bay, Fiji - pay the $15 on the cruise line if you want to snorkel there. We tried to pay it when we got there & they denied us entry. 4. Lougenia, Fiji - (some say this is the most beautiful place in the South Pacific). princess doesn’t have any excursions to this location. when you get off the boat there’s a table that sells the tours around the island if you don’t want to pay an arm & a leg for the Princess Excursions. The lady at this table says there’s no transportation to Lougenia & no taxis. That is false. You will have to ask a few other people away from that table for a taxi to get there. We did not know this & hard lesson learned. Never got to go to Lougenia :(. 5. Service overall was subpar to other cruise lines. We had a great waiter, but everything else was below avg in our opinion. 6. By far the worst food of all cruises we have cruised with. We went with a couple who has gone on over 25 cruises & they agreed the food was horrible. 7. Twin beds don’t even come with fitted sheets. Most of the bedding slides off to the floor & we end up having to remake our bed in the middle of the night. 8. Just learn from our mistake. Don’t go on the Ruby. Read Less
