Great agenda, poor product delivery by HAL.

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Oosterdam

The agenda...14 days in Venuatu, New Caledonia and Fiji, followed by immersion for 14 days in New Zealand was great. The ports were wonderful, the activities available were plentiful and the agenda experience was outstanding. I wish I could say the same about our onboard time. Oosterdam operated like it didn't care if you were there or not. HAL, the once excellent cruiseline, has reduced itself ...

Ship a bit tired but the crew made the cruise

Never cruised with Holland America (HA) before so flying halfway around the world (from England) for a 4 week cruise a gamble but generally we were happy with the cruise. We would feed back direct to HA as they said they would send an email for feedback on our return home rather than give us a paper one as they want to reduce the amount of paper they use. This is clearly a joke as every day we had ...

HAL Oosterdam Sydney - Seattle

I do not write many reviews but I feel compelled to add my comments about our recent cruise on the Oosterdam from Sydney to Seattle. I am going to make it short and to the point. I am not a complainer and for the most part the cruise was just great. I'm just making my comments known in the hopes that someone at HAL reads this stuff and takes note. Food was for the most part good although often ...

Disappointing

As this was our first Holland America cruise, we were very excited to board the Oosterdam in Sydney. Our first disappointment was the atrium area. Normally an area of meeting friends, coffee, drinks and generally a buzz, the Oosterdam's atrium was dull with a bar near the purser's desk which was closed most of the time. With only 7 ports visited on our cruise, three of these were on a Sunday. Two of ...

On March 3, 2013, our day of departure, we arrived early at Barangaroo Wharf 5 in order to beat the crowds. Once there, we had an orderly check-in and then were asked to assemble with a group of about forty people. Apparently the passengers from the previous cruise were still disembarking, so HAL decided to treat us to a two-hour bus tour of Sydney while we were waiting. We had a nice tour ...

Lived up to expectations, very relaxing

Emabarkation Late embarkation due to previous cruise being a charter but as we arrived early we were on board before it got too busy. Leaving from temporary terminal at Barangaroo was not perfect but did the job. Our Cabin Our verandah was one of the smaller ones and did overlook the lifeboats if you looked straight down but this did not worry us. The room was comfortable, clean, tidy, plenty ...

Not Up to HAL Standards

My husband and I are 4 Star Mariners. We did 3 HAL cruises last year (on the Westerdam, the Noordam and the Niew Amsterdam). This was our 12th HAL cruise and our 3rd time on the Oosterdam. We book HAL because we know that we can expect a certain level of service and amenities. This cruise did NOT live up to those expectations. I am not sure what is going on with HAL but if we experience ...

I have been reading a few of the reviews for this cruise and felt I needed to add my review. This is the longest cruise we have ever done and I was wondering what I would think about a longer cruise and I loved it. We are in our early 60's, very active and have been on over 22 cruises, our 5th with HAL and second time on the Oosterdam. Embarkation was a breeze. We were traveling with friends ...

Holland America is by far not what it used to be!

Back from the HOLLAND AMERICA (HAL) Oosterdam February 6-20 Australia & New Zealand cruise... here our (wife & husband, mature couple) report: The ship (Oosterdam) is great, recently refurbished, nicely decorated interior, very good facilities. Our stateroom (Category SY) was spacious, well appointed and clean. On embarkation the "VIP Reception" (as older HAL clients) was impeccable. The room ...

Background and Planning: Later this year I turn 50 years old. While previous milestone birthdays did not bother me, for some reason this one does. Age, of course, is just a mindset. Luckily, most days I feel like I am in my 20s, and I still possess the strong desire and curiosity to see as much of the world as possible. So what better way to celebrate the half-century mark than to take to the ...
