We have done over thirty cruises and love dressing up and dancing -ballroom, rock and roll etc All our favourite venues on the smaller class of ships such as Wheelhouse Bar, Explorers Lounge, Club Fusion, Skylounge, have been removed from the newer and larger Princess ships. These were all dance venues. Unfortunately all the dancing on the new class ships is in the piazza/atrium so you get toddlers, kids, teenagers, drunks, bogans, line dancers etc all trying to use this venue. It just doesn’t work. The food in the buffet was sub standard compared with other Princess ships we have sailed. There were a lot of meatballs, rice and potatoes dishes cooked different ways. The head chef was non European and did not know how to cook authentic Italian, Thai, Mexican etc. There were no real theme days. There were a large number of Chinese on the cruise. It seems that Princess is trying to capture this market. We had a deluxe balcony cabin but it was relatively small compared with other ships/cruise lines. Overall too many people trying to access eating areas in the buffet area on sea days. The four lanes serving food is ok when not busy but becomes chaotic when 4000 people want to be served at the same time. We loved the piazza and the two bands on the ship. In the future we will stick to the smaller Princess ships such as Diamond, Sapphire, Emerald etc as we feel more comfortable on them Read Less

went on this cruise because AUS and NZ were on are bucket list. The cruise was a problem from the get go check in people were rude and we experience are first Princess take away no lanyard were provided, of course you can purchase them on board, other princess take aways we encountered, less selection of food items in Market place, items only available in one of the two dinning areas meaning you had to walk to great distances to get what you wanted. One area to get coffee or hot water every time you ask for a cup or tried to fill your own cup you were given a hard time. People could saving tables for hours and I mean hours with out princess staff saying a word. Princess Theater was way to small to support the number of passengers again people were allowed to save multiple rows Princess staff would not help and if fact were almost impossible to located. Spa staff was rude and found it difficult to look up from computers to talk to you. Spa was out of water more often than it wasn't. Again Princess staff would not and could not be found when people were saving spaces for extremely long periods. In the main dining areas steak and lobster were not served, you were handed a menu from which you purchase them starting at $46.00. Items on the provided menu were smaller portions and less choices. Princess Staff had zero ability to handle problems or issues the method for example if you had a problem in the spa was to refer you to front desk who would also refer you some place and where ever you were refereed there was a line and always you started at the end. On two occasions I told an out right lie when trying to solve an issue. this ship is the worst, the crew is incompetent and make everything you want to experience difficult. Read Less

SIMPLY DONT GO ON THIS SHIP Originally rejected by the chinese this poorly planned ship has very average food lack of areas to sit and have a drink. NO PROMONADE DECK UNLESS YOU LIKE THE LOOK OF TENDERS An atrium that would hold 200 people tops out of a total 3500. Do not book a criuse with that require tendering.. TOOK US 3 HOURS TO GET FROM THE ASSEMBLY AREA TO CAIRNS Refused us sevice for my time dining on the first 2 nights. Lack of public toilets and lack of good signage for restaurants. I hane been on 12 cruises and this was the most disappointing. ON THE GOOD PART CABIN WAS EXCELLENT AND THE STAFF GOOD ALSO The production shows were suited to a younger group not the age group on the cruise. Best entertainment was the crew doing the last night show. AGAIN GREAT PR FOR PRINCESS CRUISES Read Less

Our expectations had been set to expect a high quality cruise experience. Unfortunately reality didn’t measure up. My husband and I travelled with our 17 year old daughter. This was our first experience with Princess having previously cruised with Royal Caribbean and P&O. We felt that the quality of the food was t great, whilst they use high quality produce we didn’t enjoy many dishes served to us. Proteins were consistently over cooked with the exception of strip steak one night that we all really enjoyed. Seasoning was non existent. The entertainment that we saw one night (Hobart) consisted of a group of Irish dancers from the local dance school, mainly young girls, fundraising for a overseas trip. The advertised pipe band did not appear. There were no announcements ts regarding this. We expected Entertainment in the main theatre to be of better quality. On our last night there was no entertainment in the theatre. We were expecting more production type shows. We did pay for a coffee card but found the coffee quality woeful. More training for the “baristas” is needed. This seems to be the case on most ships unfortunately. This was our first and last cruise with Princess Read Less

Missed ports last cruise due to bad weather. This cruise was very good, only problems were greedy people keeping reserved seats for shows, policing by ship should have been better. also many People entering pools and spas, did not shower as requested by signs before entering,. Shore excursions from ship were good but a bit expensive as was the, price of drinks, could not see the duty free or GST exemption reflected in price. Buffet set up is messy as is trying to get a table, service in buffet area not very good. Movies in cabin were a bit dated and there was no current shows. The area for Elite passengers to get together each evening has been moved from Crooners bar to Vista Lounge a better idea, except that if you have formal dining at 5-15 pm it is hardly worth while attending hours shoul be advanced by a half an hour to give you a chance to enjoy yourself instead of rushing ir not going. Princess Happy hour has disappeared, where for an extra dollar you could buy a second drink, Not Good. Photographers are a nuisance,. always trying to push there product as is Effey, the spa, and fine art sales. you get the feeling they are after your money all the time. Read Less

Embarkation: Got on and found the water to be $6.50 for a 1.5 Lt rip-off And all beers to be $8.75 per stubbie Day 2: International bar Went for early morning coffee at 6am, which was very weak and bitter and order was made wrong by Milan. He did remake it for me but no better. For next 5 days the coffee was the same and my order was stuffed up each time buy the same barista and needed him to remake it each day. I noticed every one who ordered coffee their order was stuffed up as well on these days. I think retraining is needed their. So I did not waste any more money on coffee. Was also told at least twice about 4.30am that I would need to come back at 5.30am to get something to eat. So much for a 24 hour snack bar. Bars: It was observed that at all bars they were not putting a full nip in mixed drinks ( jack daniels & coke ) when question about it the staff were happy to call people a liar. So no more money spend on over priced low quantity drinks. Most bars told us that ice water is found in the market place area and that’s where you should go to get it. Lotus spa: On day 1 we bought the enclave pack $299.00 it was a great place but needed to stop going their for hygiene reasons and no protection from germs being spread by other passengers. Found a passenger using the hair drier to dry his private parts. Did not find any hand sanitiser on entry or near the self serve water. Constant hard sell by staff was annoying. They were sending out advertising material to the room and instructing it be placed on our bed in our staterooms which was done without knocking or knocking and just walking in which on 2 occasions we were in the room having a sleep or private time and we had some messenger boy walk in. This was unnecessary as their is a mailbox outside the front door no need to enter my room. As far as I no the room steward, maintenance and security are the only people allowed in my room with out my permission ( privacy laws ) We won some gift vouchers and made a booking for treatments but when staff found out about vouchers booking time were changed to a time when we would need to be at dinner which was unsuitable for us. Excursion: Found to be double or more than local operators prices, and had privately booked tours cancelled because princess forced them too by using stand over tactics. Some of these were booked up to 8 months in advance to secure our spots. The locals operators apologies but told us it was out of their control and princess cruiser were the ones who were forcing them to cancel us. Restaurant: Were very good and most staff excellent. Food servings a bit small and the food sometimes tough from over cooking or left in warmers to long, ice cream was always delivered half melted. No New Zealand wines on menu and all wines over priced. We also found the dress code was not enforced In the dinning rooms on formal nights with people allowed in in tee shirts and jeans or shorts. This was also the case at the platinum & Ellite captains circle party. The once high standards of princess has been lowered dramatically and at times I thought I was on a Sydney harbour ferry. Destinations: Dunedin and Fiords cruising canceled for safety reasons and Picton was put in to replace Dunedin but no replacement for a full day cruising the Fiords, this allowed the ship to cruise back to Sydney at 14 notts and that would have been a great saving to princess. At this stage we have not been offered any compensation. When I check the weather charts supplied by the captain the swell and wind was no higher than what we got on Wednesday in open ocean on our way back to Sydney. Which princess should have none about as the weather charts indicated that the bad weather that stopped us from going to the fiords was moving north and we would get it anyway. If we cruised close to shore we would miss most the high swells but this would not allow the casino or gift shops to open. This suggest to me that the ports were changed for lost income more than for safety. A large amount of passengers were also of the same opinion and wanted some compensation. We paid an extra $1000.00 per person to secure a balcony at the rear of the ship for the scenic cruising which we would not normally do, so we felt ripped off again. I pick this cruise at this time for the ship and the itinerary as it was advertised as going to fiords first but found out to late that it was going north island first to be able to change to a different departure date. Photos: Very little effort was put into have a nice background for onshore photos and found the quality of photography to be very poor. Even the formal and casual photos on the ship had little effort put in to make sure the photos taken were good, some photographers did not even check each shot after taking them to see if they were any good which resulted in poor quality and no photos were bought because of this. I wanted to buy a Nikon P900 camera but the price was $799.99 which I was told was duty & tax free but when I checked the price with my local camera shop near my home I found them to be priced at $698.00 including tax & duty. When I checked with Nikon in Japan I was told a price of under $600.00 Australian delivered to my residence in Australia. I ask them camera shop to price match and was told no. Another sale lost for your company. Casino: We went to play roulette and the sign at the table said $2.00 to $50.00 chips. But once we purchased chips we were told we must bet a minimum of $10.00 per each and every spin. So we cashed out and I have sent an email to the Australian gamberling authorities to investigate as this seems to be wrong to me and have never encounter this before on any of the 10 cruises I have done. Entertainment: This was found to be top quality but show times were not planned as good as other cruises we have been on with show times 8pm & 10pm. This ment if you were on late dinner you could only go to the late show and this made bed time after 11pm. On your other cruise ships show times lined up with dinner times so when first dinner sitting in the restaurant was on, the 1st show would be on & the same at the second dinner sitting ( 1st show at 6pm & 2nd show at 8pm) this allowed everyone a chance at getting a seat in the theatre and not have to go to bed late or miss the show, as some people would go to the early show and stay for the second show reducing the seating in the second show. We went on this cruise with a friend who was celebrating his 50th birthday. We had been on the Diamond Princess before, so expected the newer Majestic Princess to be just as good. Sadly it wasn't. Worse cruise we've ever been on. *Noisy cabin *poor food - marketplace was bland and food was overcooked and dry, too much asian food *small entertainment venues with not enough seating, especially the small piazza area where the dancing was - so overcrowded, not enough room for everyone *problems with the soft drink package - when it clearly states fresh fruit juice included, however whenever I ordered some I was told it wasn't. Staff would argue with me, telling me I was wrong (nice attitude staff!) *poor layout of ship, not enough places for those of us who like dancing *night time entertainment was on too close together, or at the same time, so we missed some things, *incompetent staff that continually got orders wrong - I asked for no ice in my drinks, and so many times got ice. Ordered vodka, lime & soda specifically asked for lime cordial.. drink came without cordial and not even a piece of lime, *far too many health/beauty talk. We were told there were many complaints about this ship, and I'm not suprised. Would never sail on the Majestic Princess again Read Less

The Majestic may be the biggest fleet of Princess, but it is the worst cruise ship and cruise experience I've ever had (and this includes the time I went on a cruise to Alaska - also with Princess - and we hit the tail end of a typhoon and the waves were coming up to the 5th floor). Embarkation/disembarkation: The embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly, so that's a positive. We were one of the first onboard and our room was ready for us. Left relatively on time and it was smooth sailing. Disembarkation was also very quickly and we were able to conveniently take a bus to the airport straight from the ship terminal. The ship itself: The layout of this ship is so disjointed and I have no idea what the designers were thinking with some of their choices. For such a huge cruise ship that can carry more than 3000 passengers, why in the world was the Princess Theater so small? I think it could only hold 700-800 passengers, and it was the smallest theater I have ever seen on the 6-8 cruises I've taken with 3 different cruise lines. You had to show up at least half an hour before show time for the less popular entertainment shows, and even when we showed up an hour early for the last night's show (a relatively boring magician with card tricks and not much else... oh wait, he also incorporated coins), half the seats were already full. There was an altercation next to us between 2 husbands trying to save seats for their wives, and another couple of women who told them that's wrong (which it is) and not right. The seats are also very tiny and narrow, considering the average size of most cruise passengers. The "library" consisted of a couple of bookshelves in the very crowded and tiny internet cafe, where there was a line of people who didn't know how to connect to the internet. It wasn't the kind of space you'd want to sit with a book - not that there were more than 3-4 chairs available for sitting in. The VIP lounge seemed like an after-thought; it was on the 14th floor amongst other cabins and next to the meeting room. I've been in VIP lounges that actually had a view and were places you'd *want* to go to. The casino was huge, but we didn't spend any time in there, and from the looks of it, neither did most people. I felt bad for the staff standing at tables hoping someone would join. Food/buffet: The buffet layout is also disjointed and weird. There wasn't much variety with the food, but they do love offering a majority of Asian dishes, and lots and lots of meat. Wish there were more pasta and vegetarian options, and I'm not even a vegetarian. At least the watermelon slices were yummy, although I wish they offered watermelon slices for breakfast as well, but they were only available for dinner.... which if you came to eat after 8pm, half the buffet closed and the options were limited to mostly.... slices of meat and fried Asian food. Buffet service: TERRIBLE. It's not that the staff were rude or crappy themselves (although a couple seemed like you were inconveniencing them by asking for something), but you could tell the ship must have been understaffed because just getting some water poured in our glasses or getting a refill of orange juice in the morning took a long time. Some meals, I'd be more than halfway done before someone finally poured us some water, unless we flagged someone down (which feels kind of rude and pushy). The juice glasses in the morning were so small! I don't know about other people, but when I wake up in the morning, I'd like to have a normal sized glass of orange juice. Then maybe the staff wouldn't have to walk around refilling glasses as often. It would have been more efficient if I could just pour my own juice or water. Stateroom: We had a mini-suite which had a large couch (which is good because we ended up spending a lot of time in there since most of the activities were catered either towards older people, gamblers, art auction lovers, and kids), but our balcony was so narrow! We set the thermostat to the lowest it could go to (it's just a dial so you don't even know what the temperature actually is), and it was still too hot. Woke up every morning in a sweat because it was so stuffy, and was a sweaty mess after showering and blow drying my hair. Opening the balcony only provided relief if it was a cooler windy day, but even then, not much help since it was mostly humid and warm most days. Steward service: Our beds were made, or turned over for the evening, and the bathroom was tidied, but the shower or the bathroom floor still had hairs in it, and you could tell the desk was never touched the entire time because you could clearly see the water stains from glasses, and fingerprints on the surface, so that was strange. Our steward was very nice though. Stateroom bathroom: Ugh. At least we had a tub, but the ventilation in there was terrible. Also, from the very first day when we first walked into our stateroom, there was an overwhelming smell of urine in the bathroom. I mean it was strong - like gas station bathroom strong, like someone had missed the toilet and pissed everywhere else. You had to hold your breath in there. We mentioned it after a couple days when it didn't go away, and they replaced our shower curtain and said they gave the bathroom a good scrubbing. The smell was still there. My dad reported it again to them (and we are not usually ones to complain about most things, which is why this cruise just felt like such a disappointment) and said it was probably a plumbing or ventilation issue, and the supervisor (who claimed there was no urine smell that she could smell... okay, so more than one person is just imagining things then? Right.) said she would tell the plumber to look into it. I don't know what they did, but after that the smell did improve, although it was smellier some days than others. At least it was more tolerable. They also gave us a free dinner at Crown Grill (which is good that it was free, because the filet mignon wasn't that tender and the food was less than memorable). The passengers: Encountered some rude passengers. Encountered a lot of bad elevator etiquette. Just horrible. I felt bad for older passengers who couldn't walk to the elevators fast enough because people would push the close doors button without waiting for others to get on. That said, the elevator layout was a little weird, and also the elevators were tiny. They say each can fit 20 people, but maybe they mean 20 small children. Our travels to the last port (Dunedin) and Fiordland Nat'l Park were canceled due to weather. I was so disappointed. I know there's nothing that could be done, but there's not much you can do to alleviate the disappointment of having travelled more than 6,000 miles to a destination where you can't see the thing you wanted to see the most (Fiordlands). They promised to "make it up" with "even more entertainment!" but didn't really deliver with anything worth writing home about. Overall, if this was the first cruise I'd ever gone on, I'd never want to cruise again, so I hope first time cruisers on this trip had better experiences/lower expectations. The previous cruise I went on (2 weeks in Greece and Turkey with Royal Caribbean) was beyond amazing and excellent compared to this - great service, great stateroom, great entertainment, a theater that can actually fit more than a third of the passengers.... I've cruised on Princess before (to Alaska), but will never cruise on Princess again if I can help it. We only chose this cruise because of the destination ports/timing/cost/availability, but I'll just try to think fondly of the ports we experienced, and not the cruise itself. Read Less

Went on this ship with high expectations...travelled with husband and my parents. We were on deck 8 and they were deck 9. Both of us, midship. Between us all, we have been on more that 30 Cruises, across different cruise lines. This was our second Princess Cruise. This is our combined opinion, based on what we like and look for on a cruise ship. As cruisers, everyone looks for different things, for us this is our opinion only. The great : * ship handled the choppy sea conditions wonderfully. We had to divert from original course due to low pressure system approaching through Bass Strait. The seas weren’t the worst we have ever encountered, but it was choppy, and ship remained very smooth and stable. Best “ride” we have experienced comparing it to similar seas on other ships. * the captain was very cautious with the incoming bad weather and ensured that the ship travelled the calmest waters possible under the circumstances. Again, something we have not always seen. * Hollywood Conservatory : can’t remember its exact name. But it’s on deck 17, at front of ship. Indoor pool area with very nice separate cabanas with seating. Nicest area on the ship, and the only real open space on the ship. Has a bar. Could benefit from also having peanuts, chips etc. could not get any food from there. This is an issue with pool and spas overflowing water onto walkways there. They had a crew member permanently standing there mopping up the water. He made a comment that 2 Cruises before ours, someone had slipped in the water and been injured. The good : * internet worked okay. Isn’t cheap, but reasonably priced. Speed was fine all around the ship and in cabin. * food at the International Cafe/coffee shop is very nice. The bad : * Interenational Marketplace/buffet Deck 16 - some of us thought the food was fine, but there is not much variety, with similar meals each day. Layout of this area makes it feel very pokey, and food stations are spread across a large area with lanes up and down. The dessert area is located away from the other food area, which is strange. The area has low ceilings and narrow walkways, so it feels like all you see is lines of people walking everywhere. Not a relaxing place to sit, in our opinion. * Piazza/atrium - this was always busy and provides a sitting area and is also where the line dancing, dancing lessons, disco, painting, etc etc are held. It is a small area and with the activities going on, is not a quiet place to relax. * Princess Theatre - apparently holds 1000 people. There were 3500 people on our cruise. Had to get to show around 45 minutes before, to secure a seat. If you couldn’t get a seat, they showed the show, in another small room simulcast on a TV screen. * Princess Hi Room - this is where they simulcast the show if you don’t get a seat. This was a very small room, and this is where bingo was. Again, the room is too small. * Dining room - we only ate there 1 night. We walked in with a bottle of wine we purchased from another bar. When we sat down, the waitress questioned whether we bought it from home or onboard, as $15 corkage applies if it’s not bought from the ship. I told her, we bought it on my husbands card, she said “ are you sure”. Not s nice experience, to be accused of lying. Again, area we sat, was small and pokey, we had another table very close to ours, not private. Never went back there again. * Library - whilst not a place we would sit in, it only has 2 small tables and a few chairs. Never saw anyone even sit in there, as it’s too small. On other ships, the library is using full of people playing board games or cards. Pointless even having this area of this ship. * Coffee - I don’t drink it, but husband and parents did not like the coffee taste. You can purchase a coffee card for $36 which gives you 15 coffees and unlimited premium tea (English breakfast, chamomile etc). Coffee was no good anywhere on the ship. Overall, whilst we were on a very large ship, the guest areas were small. We have travelled on large ships before, and always felt like their weren’t a lot of people onboard. This is the first time we felt like there were too many people. Seems the focus with ship design, is to fit as many cabins as they can, at the expense of small, pokey and not enough guest areas. A lot of the guest sitting areas are cut in half with walkways through them, so all you think about when you are sitting there, is how many people are walking past you all the time. Also, the design does not bring the sea feeling into the ship. Not many big windows, and you actually feel cut off from the water. Some areas that do have windows, all you see is the closed in verandahs out the window, not water. We have never felt this on a ship previously. Whilst we enjoyed the break away, would never travel of this ship again, even if it was for free...which is saying something. Read Less

I chose this cruise due to it's Itinerary and my up until now good experience with Princess - this cruise has changed that! Was looking forward to trying the new ship- but was disappointed.Crew were fantastic but there were so many issues with the ship and our cabin that I would not recommend it. Too big- too many things happening in piazza- Princess theatre too small- couldn't hold enough guests- had to be there 1 hour before show time in order to be assured of a seat. Food not as good as usual- often luke warm or overcooked risotto- Flooded balcony even when the sun was shining- issues with balciony door and creaks in the mini suite seiling. Door and creaks sorted out, but despite the staffs efforts, balcony unusable all cruise. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Travel agents took over the boat in the last 4 days making paying guests wait longer in line for dinner ----Elite and platinum area in a horrible area at back of boat- Some good features like Vines wine bar and International cafe and pizzeria- where we ate 6 times on our cruise. Hate that buffet- too busy never enough seats in peak time- Movies OK- some very old. Enteratinment varied- too hard to get into theatre for shows-ahd to line up too long-- need to ticket the theatre so everyone gets a chance. Think the boat is TOO big and the issues with our cabin unbelievable!!!! Read Less

Thought this would be some thing special, it wasn’t. This was our 6th cruise, we have had some great cruises before. Firstly, upon embarkation, we found someone else’s suitcase had been left behind in our room, our cabin steward removed it but seemed very confused. Next day we found a dirty sock caught up in the curtains...yuk, so much for cleanliness. Our friends cabin had a huge stain on the carpet. The food was bland & neither prepared or cooked as described, worst prawns We have ever tasted, pale, soggy & tasteless. Layout of buffet dining area is a complete shambles, very confusing & overly crowded. Hygiene does not be a priority with guests avoiding hand hygiene ( a totally inadequate small hand washing area ) & disregarding the request not to directly fill thermos flasks / drink bottles from the taps. Food is presented in a haphazard arrangement & it was obvious meals were rehashed from yesterday’s leftovers. Anytime dining is not anytime, often given a beeper & told to go away & wait, often for over 45 minutes. Insufficient seating to cope with the 3,500 passengers, the auditorium was often filled 45 minutes prior to the show commencing, we missed out on a couple of shows as a result. However, the shows were mostly of a high standard & a good variety. The beautiful atrium is over crowded & people seemed to get there & stayed glued to “ their seats “ for hours. The constant “ hard sell “ & fake “ sales “ were over the top, didn’t see many guests in the high end boutiques. The safety briefing was embarrassing, a fake, cheesy voiceover as we were jammed in the auditorium. This ship may be elegantly designed, but spoiled by cheap plastic topiary & trees & ugly artworks. Beware of the sharp thick metal frame on the artwork inside the cabin beside the bed,I bumped into it & scratched & bruised my upper arm. A flu virus went around the ship so sadly my husband, myself & the other couple we travelled with got very I’ll for the second week of our 13 day cruise. I ended up seeing the Dr onboard but was annoyed my prescription was not filled correctly & I had to return the following day as only half the tablets were inside the pack ! This ship was crammed with the elderly & a lot of people with mobility issues, lifts were not able to cope with the demand, lots of waiting & crowded lifts were frustrating for many. Avoid the ridiculously overpriced shore excursions, a trap for the unsuspecting, do your research beforehand & save $$$. I would not recommend cruising on this ship to families / children, Sadly Majestic Princess was a huge disappointment. Read Less

We had a mini suite & are still waiting to be greeted by our cabin steward & receive our complimentary glass of bubbly. Food, service, entertainment very average. When the CEO boarded the ship in Auckland parts of the ship were closed to the passengers so private functions could be held, e.g indoor pool, Chinese Restaurant, to name just two areas. My mother, who is 84 yrs old, was refused access to the toilet as it was for use only by those attending the private function. She was told to walk all the way to mid ships & use the one there. However the service did rise from very average to excellent, which was really needed. Toilets are very hard to locate on the ship. Rubbish bins are lacking everywhere. Smoking areas are out in the open. The one show we actually managed to see, due to not enough seating. we had seen on a previous cruise. The ship does not have a promenade deck. The shops on board are very high end, Gucci etc so they are catering for the rich passengers. Not enough seating in the Atrium. I could go on & on with what is wrong with this ship. It boils down to them having too many passengers, not enough crew & trying to squeeze it all in with really expanding the ship. Will be looking at another company for our cruising in future as many, many other seasoned Princess passengers has said also. Read Less

Our overall impression is one of disappointment. Nothing about the large ship experience can be considered to enhance the customer's enjoyment. Compared to a "small" ship having a guest population of about 1200, our experience on the Majestic Princess included sub-standard food (cool or pre-packaged), and an abyssmal disembarkation experience in Auckland. The day of disembarkation cannot be considered as part of the cruise, as guests are hustled out of their staterooms and off the ship as quickly as possible. The port in Auckland is terrible, too, when it has to accommodate embarking and disembarking passengers simultaneously. THE SHIP IS TOO LARGE! Staff service is excellent, however. Friendly and attentive, all staff seemed to be doing their utmost. However, there are simply too many people to allow extensive one-to-one service. The layout of the ship is a bit wonky, too. You can't get to the Allegro dining room on deck 6 by walking on deck 6; you have to travel along deck 7 then descend the stairs. A black spot for the naval architect, Read Less

I had a great experience a year ago on a Princess Cruise in the Mediterranean. But this one was disappointing. The food on this cruise was repetitive and uninteresting. Chefs say this is a new corporate directive. In addition, Princess did not accommodate lactose intolerance or shellfish allergy. This is very surprising since the average age on board was about 65. Lactose Intolerance is most prevalent in older adults. I may be the only person to lose weight on a cruise. Not a good endorsement for the food. Much of the staff was friendly and very helpful. Stateroom well equipped, clean, and comfortable. The itinerary was excellent with many stops in New Zealand and Australia. The EZ air option and staff provided no support. I did my own arrangements and saved $19,000! And I traveled in Premium or business class. We love to cruise but will be looking at other options outside of Princess for our next cruise. Read Less

We wanted to see Australia & NZ is why we booked this. We had been on 2 other Princess cruises, but were smaller ships, and many years ago. FOOD- I am a vegan & they did accommodate me, although when I booked they had a smoothie bar, but took it out for our cruise. VERY DISAPPOINTED! My husband liked the food & sometimes we waited a long time for dinner. SHIP-TO BIG & TO MANY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! EXCURSIONS-They wanted you to designated area early but had to wait a long time to get started. The personnel talked to the people like they were little children, no respect! Some Excursions were to short, didn't have enough time & felt rushed! We arrived late to some of them but still had to be back at the designated time. One excursion I asked for a vegan lunch & a wake up call but did not get either. So we had to rush and missed breakfast. ACTIVITIES ON SHIP- If you like to gamble, shop & buy jewelry this is for you. I tried line dancing but the Piazza is to small for all the people so you run into people, no fun. Would of liked to Zumba but no room. Did do Tai Chi in area near indoor pool, so had a chlorine smell. Also a lot of rude people & employees walked between the teacher & people taking class. Sea days were very boring not much for me to do! Also to many sea days. CABIN- nice with a balcony although didn't get to use it much as the weather was cold most of our trip. ENTERTAINMENT-Most of it we did not care for and was so LOUD in theater! Always very crowded if you wanted to get a seat you had to get there an hour early!! They didn't want you to save seats either. CUSTOMER SERVICE PRIOR TO EMBARKATION-It seems with each agent you get told something different to the point you do not know what is the correct information. I cancelled an excursion for my husband way in advance before trip & it was supposed to be credited back to my visa but it was not. I called customer service but received two different stories & It went on the ship credit. We will not go with Princess again. Read Less

This was the Majestic Princess, 10/10/2018 sailing Australia/ New Zealand. First, the good: 1. The crew and service was first rate. I was inspired by these hard working people with fantastic attitudes. No criticism in this review should take away from them. 2. The ship is gorgeous and our cabin (E726) was amazing. 3. We loved the itinerary. The cruise itself was a fantastic experience. Now, unfortunately are the issues I wish someone had told me prior to booking. Understand, whereas I'm not a 50+ cruise person, I have done 6 of them and have other Princess cruises to provide comparison. 1. We experienced SIGNIFICANT vibrations in our cabin sufficient enough to create rattles (noise). The vibrations were while underway and seemed to be triggered by rougher seas or faster speeds (anything that stressed the ship in the slightest). It seemed there was a balance issue in the drive system. We've been on other cruises in rougher seas and never had this experience. We had several sleep challenged nights. 2. The food was VERY disappointing and fell well below the expectations from our last Princess cruise. We thought maybe they were compermising to drive people to the specialty restaurants but those were disappointing as well. We found the food bland and flavorless. The dishes weren't very exciting and the food quality low (as in cafeteria quality). The Marketplace Buffett was better than the dining room but still far less than a lower end Vegas buffet. The specialty restaurants claim to be very high end but are little more than the dining room food repackaged. 3. Entertainment was disappointing to the point of being embarrassing for Princess. The bar entertainment demonstrated far more talent than the production shows. Some where better than others but because the worst were SO BAD it made mediocre seem good. With all the talent in the world there is no excuse for this. Our last Princess cruise had excellent entertainment so we know it's possible. Read Less

Not my first cruise over 300 days in last 5 years. But my first Princess and probably my last. Have cruise Carnival to Cunard and Princess is bottom of the pack. The buffet is a diaster area with cold food and a collection of pots and pans from a thrift store. They use foil on top of pans trying to keep food warm (very tacky) but all food on the buffet is cold. There is good seating in buffet and usually can find a seat. There are other places to eat which are better but usually very crowded. Tradition dining I thought the dinner menu to be lacking in choices. Very bland and they really need a new dessert chef. My worst find was premade Cuban sandwich with mayonaise. Cuban sandwiches have mustard NEVER mayonaise. But enough on food. If you enjoy a quiet place to sit and read take a different ship. No library (very small room no seating) no quiet bars always art auction or trivia going on. Good points the cabins are comfortable and TV is great. Good thing since I spent more time in this cabin then anyother cruise. Ship is very smooth in rough seas. Both boarding the disembarktation was very smooth. Crew did a great job. Read Less

This was our 2nd princess family cruise and we were very excited for the new ship. Sadly our expectations were not met. We were looking forward to the indoor pool (as we were well aware outdoor swimming traveling to New Zealand probably wouldn’t happen). I called princess 3 times to confirm the use of the Hollywood conservatory for children, and was reassured that it will be. As soon as we stepped into the ship we headed up there, only to be greeted with an “ADULTS only area” sign. The stupidity of this is that the FAMILY area of instruments/chess/game tables etc is directly past the Indoor pool. The dirty looks we received from grumpy elderly people was disgusting (while we passed through to get to the family area) as if they paid more than us and we weren’t entitled to be in there!!! One grumpy OLD man actually had the audacity to tell us to get out. I spoke to customer service and upper management and was given an apology but no change. The pool was mostly unused throughout our cruise, but yet we still didn’t have access. Food was great, the few quizzes were funny too. Most of the shows in the theatre were average. Besides line dancing, couples dancing, juggling and painting not much else was on offer. This cruise will probably be our last with princess. If families are not welcome they should actually say so. Our first princess cruise was AMAZING, sadly this has completely put us off. Great staff, but rude passengers, not much to do and forget about finding a seat in the piazza area. People planted there behinds in a chair and didn’t move, some slept there others read books. This ship definitely does not have enough public areas to sit at, unless you are in your cabin. The private Karaoke rooms were also closed. Too much sales going on, such as Effy jewelers, beauty treatments, massages, etc. We did love however the crooners bar, as we usually could find somewhere to sit and at 8:30pm there is a GREAT entertainer named Tonya. She played the piano, sang songs by request and was very funny. This ship really was a retirement village on water, and traffic lights should be installed for all the wheelchairs and walkers around. We went on the Majestic Princess out of Australia in Sep 2018. The ship was relatively new and was well fitted out, the food was good, the staff were generally great and the entertainers were fantastic. However, the amenities such as the Pacific Theatre, the buffet and the piazza did not cater for the large number of passengers. We had trouble finding a seat in the buffet and we found ourselves doing a lot of standing to see the entertainment in the piazza due to a lack of seats. The Princess Theatre was a joke; to get a good seat you need to get there about 1 hour before the show. You would miss on a seat completely if you did not get there 15 minutes before the show. The drinks were also quite expensive. AUD$8.75 for a beer and $13.95 for a nip of spirits. Maybe this was to discourage you from buying drinks because most of the entertainment venues did not have anywhere to place your drink, you had to hold it in your hand or put it on the floor. We also did not get the room we booked. We were given a room 2 floors up and half way down the ship rearward. This caused a slight problem for us as we booked a room opposite my mother-in-law (82 yo) to look after her. The response from staff at the front desk was that the travel agent changed the room and there was nothing they could do. We contacted the travel agent after the cruise and they confirmed that they did not change the room. They actually did not have the access to the Princess reservation system to change our room. None the less, we had no notification from anyone and when we printed the baggage tags off on the princess site a few days before the cruise, they were for the room we had booked. This was our 7th cruise. Compared to the others this was not as good and I think the number of passengers was the main issue, I recommend you avoid this ship. We will never cruise on the Majestic Princess again and will look for ships with a more modest number of passengers for future cruises Read Less

We chose to do this cruise as it went to South Pacific Islands and being a new ship. Was a huge wow factor when seeing it from the dock. Way to many rooms and not enough areas to sit. Full of the elderly not recommended for the younger crowds as nothing to do. Market place food was always cold. Princess has declined over the years very disappointing. Will be choosing a different cruise line to go on next. Full of walkers, wheel chairs. Even very disappointed with your entertainment staff. Heard so many complaints with so many passengers. Adults only area had children in it over the first three days but finally the staff monitored the area. Hand washing was only monitored in first couple days as well. Overall it’s very disappointing looking forward to a holiday and we honestly couldn’t wait to get home. That’s my opinion on majestic princess Read Less
