This was the third time I have done this cruise, but the first on the beautiful Majestic. Also first time out of Sydney. We got down to the port early, as we were not departing port until 6.45 pm. Spent some time trawling through the market at The Rocks, before heading on board about 12.30. We werent due to embark until about 3.15, but with a Platinum card, I thought I would chance it. We has already dropped our bags earlier, so it was just getting out cards and boarding. There was no queue, and we were on in about 15 mins flat! Had lunch at the Trough, which was the only time I went there. It was set out well, very spread out. Again, not many on board, so no queues or dramas. Our cabin was well positioned and very spacious. As usual, the beds were comfy but the pillows less so, The new TV system was great, and we caught a movie before heading off to muster. Again, this was a lot less crowded than usual, with most people finding a seat or a perch. Not having to lug your life jacket was a plus. Catching the lifts afterwards was also not the usual scramble. (Travelling companion has a few mobility issues). The Atrium was beautiful, but not enough room for the popular line dancing or ball room dancing classes. Would be the only complaint in that area. A Kiwi comedian was very entertaining (cant remember his name unfortunately), as was the comedy duo Pearson and someone. I had seen them before, and found them genuinely funny both times. Think Morecome and Wise. (although they were from a group called The Kinsmen, who some Australians would know). The dining room was beautiful, and Daria, our waitress was just perfect. Very professional, kind and knowledgeable. The food portions have gone up in size, but I thought the menu was a little limited, not as much variety as there use to be. No lobster on either formal or the last night. The bomb Alaska has improved from previous sailings, as in the egg white was not as raw as previously. The only issue I would have is that the dining rooms are only open until 9am for breakfast. First sitting was at 5.15 which was great for getting to a show, but starting to get a little early. Loved the adult only areas, and there were plenty of them, including a pool. Although I didnt swim this trip and only went to the Hollywood Conservatory once. Again, a very beautiful place, although I did hear stories of people arriving early, spreading their stuff to prevent others from sharing and staying the day. Signed up for a TRX class at the gym, but this was unfortunately cancelled at the last moment as they were still selling shoe lifts/inserts. They were also a PT down. One was flown in from Dubai, and so I did the last class (only 2 were scheduled). They are getting a little expensive. The Princess Theater was lovely, but the chairs were smaller than an airline seat! A little cramped, esp when the Cruise Body starts being felt. The shows were what you would expect, but with more dramatic lighting. The costumes were stunning. Unfortunately there were only two waiters on and there was no little table or cup holder to put your drink. They really need more waiters. Also if they could offset the seats it would allow for better visibility. Didnt go to the shops, as they were all high end, Effy (which I love looking at their jewelry, but most of it is the price of another cruise, so I never buy), Cartier, and other top names. Even though the ship was large, I didnt feel as if I walked any further than usual (and I have the Cruise Body to confirm this), I also didnt feel crowded. In fact, I actually saw more people more than once than which is a little unusual for me. Overall, I found the whole experience very positive, the crew seemed a lot happier than on some of the other ships. The ship was very clean (as you would expect with a new ship), and elegant. Absolutely loved it. Read Less

Went on this ship with high expectations...travelled with husband and my parents. We were on deck 8 and they were deck 9. Both of us, midship. Between us all, we have been on more that 30 Cruises, across different cruise lines. This was our second Princess Cruise. This is our combined opinion, based on what we like and look for on a cruise ship. As cruisers, everyone looks for different things, for us this is our opinion only. The great : * ship handled the choppy sea conditions wonderfully. We had to divert from original course due to low pressure system approaching through Bass Strait. The seas weren’t the worst we have ever encountered, but it was choppy, and ship remained very smooth and stable. Best “ride” we have experienced comparing it to similar seas on other ships. * the captain was very cautious with the incoming bad weather and ensured that the ship travelled the calmest waters possible under the circumstances. Again, something we have not always seen. * Hollywood Conservatory : can’t remember its exact name. But it’s on deck 17, at front of ship. Indoor pool area with very nice separate cabanas with seating. Nicest area on the ship, and the only real open space on the ship. Has a bar. Could benefit from also having peanuts, chips etc. could not get any food from there. This is an issue with pool and spas overflowing water onto walkways there. They had a crew member permanently standing there mopping up the water. He made a comment that 2 Cruises before ours, someone had slipped in the water and been injured. The good : * internet worked okay. Isn’t cheap, but reasonably priced. Speed was fine all around the ship and in cabin. * food at the International Cafe/coffee shop is very nice. The bad : * Interenational Marketplace/buffet Deck 16 - some of us thought the food was fine, but there is not much variety, with similar meals each day. Layout of this area makes it feel very pokey, and food stations are spread across a large area with lanes up and down. The dessert area is located away from the other food area, which is strange. The area has low ceilings and narrow walkways, so it feels like all you see is lines of people walking everywhere. Not a relaxing place to sit, in our opinion. * Piazza/atrium - this was always busy and provides a sitting area and is also where the line dancing, dancing lessons, disco, painting, etc etc are held. It is a small area and with the activities going on, is not a quiet place to relax. * Princess Theatre - apparently holds 1000 people. There were 3500 people on our cruise. Had to get to show around 45 minutes before, to secure a seat. If you couldn’t get a seat, they showed the show, in another small room simulcast on a TV screen. * Princess Hi Room - this is where they simulcast the show if you don’t get a seat. This was a very small room, and this is where bingo was. Again, the room is too small. * Dining room - we only ate there 1 night. We walked in with a bottle of wine we purchased from another bar. When we sat down, the waitress questioned whether we bought it from home or onboard, as $15 corkage applies if it’s not bought from the ship. I told her, we bought it on my husbands card, she said “ are you sure”. Not s nice experience, to be accused of lying. Again, area we sat, was small and pokey, we had another table very close to ours, not private. Never went back there again. * Library - whilst not a place we would sit in, it only has 2 small tables and a few chairs. Never saw anyone even sit in there, as it’s too small. On other ships, the library is using full of people playing board games or cards. Pointless even having this area of this ship. * Coffee - I don’t drink it, but husband and parents did not like the coffee taste. You can purchase a coffee card for $36 which gives you 15 coffees and unlimited premium tea (English breakfast, chamomile etc). Coffee was no good anywhere on the ship. Overall, whilst we were on a very large ship, the guest areas were small. We have travelled on large ships before, and always felt like their weren’t a lot of people onboard. This is the first time we felt like there were too many people. Seems the focus with ship design, is to fit as many cabins as they can, at the expense of small, pokey and not enough guest areas. A lot of the guest sitting areas are cut in half with walkways through them, so all you think about when you are sitting there, is how many people are walking past you all the time. Also, the design does not bring the sea feeling into the ship. Not many big windows, and you actually feel cut off from the water. Some areas that do have windows, all you see is the closed in verandahs out the window, not water. We have never felt this on a ship previously. Whilst we enjoyed the break away, would never travel of this ship again, even if it was for free...which is saying something. Read Less

The Majestic Princess was a fantastic way to travel to Tasmania. The staff are so friendly, the food is amazing and the entertainment was excellent. Even with 3500 travellers on board you could always find a seat in the public areas. Our stateroom was well appointed and very clean. We encountered rough seas but the newer and larger ship was much smoother in the conditions than the smaller ships. The embarkation and disembarkation process was very quick and efficient. The adults only area with cabanas and a pool was included in the price. A great area to chill out. Our ports of Hobart and Port Arthur were very interesting places to visit with so much history. The tender service to and from the ship to Port Arthur was run very smoothly. It was lovely to have 2 nights in Hobart to explore the city at night. I would definitely recommend this ship to travel on. Princess is ahead in so many ways. Read Less

Main reason to travel was a "new ship" This should be reliable and meet our expectations. The ship was majestic and magnificent but mellowed in a few areas. Dining food was wet 60% of the time due to standing time. This means 40% was excellent. I measured this against Caribbean and Cunard where their food was very consistent Waiting to attend the theatre was potential safety issue because of crowd rushing to get seats in a theatre which was narrow walk ways and sit down space was like being on a cheap long haul flight. Designer of ships please note. 80% of all problems normally relate to poor design of one thing or another The one area which must be upto standard are beds, my bed sagged after 8 days, which caused my back to ache. Beds on ships must be commercial grade. I took plenty of shots of the ships, so it must have appealed to me. Read Less

We chose this cruise to experience the Majestic princess and we were not disappointed. Embarking was very quick and efficient as was disembarking. The ship is beautiful. The decor is lovely and not over the top. The entertainment was great. The food was good with enough variety and the staff was very accommodating if you wanted to change or add anything to your meal. I liked the new look in the Fresh Market dinning option and thought there was a good variety to choose from. Enjoyed the International cafe. It was very popular so was sometimes hard to find a seat. I especially enjoyed the adult only pool and Hollywood conservatory area. The decor was lovely and I found it very relaxing. We had some rough seas and strong winds but the ship was very stable and comfortable. Overall I would rate my cruise as very relaxing and would highly recommend Majestic Princess. Read Less

When I booked this cruise I requested our dining with friends who were also on the cruise but no we were seated at different tables so I have no faith in the Princess booking service as they don't follow-up on requests. Fortunately the Maitre D was able to seat us together after a long wait as he was busy fixing numerous complaints/errors. The cabin was a balcony suite and it was fine with a very happy, friendly Cabin Steward who was always ready with a hello and smile. The same can't be said of the rest of the staff who looked bored and at times inattentive. Maybe it is the size of the ship and the number of people on board. I didn't see any officers whilst on board unlike the smaller Princess Ships I have traveled on. The food was its usual high standard but I felt the menu selection was not up to Princesses normal standard with many items now requiring an additional cost. As for eating in the Market Place, forget it . Seating is very hard to find, there is no structure or control of lines or ques with people just pushing in and quite frankly being quite rude. Most of the bar staff were friendly and did their best to provide good service but again with so many people it often took some time to get a drink. The on-board entertainment ranged from excellent to ordinary but trying to please the masses must be difficult. Finding a seat in the theatre was near impossible unless you arrive 30/45 mins early as only has about 1000 seats. The offer of a free photo (with conditions of course) was a rip-off as you had to pay $19.99 to download the digital image before you received your $10 free photo. I can download my digital photos in a matter of minutes. I will travel with Princess again in the future but only on the smaller ships as despite the size the larger ship lacks personality, has limited seating capacity in most areas and a lot of staff just never raised a smile. Embarkation was excellent and we were onboard within about 15 minutes. The decor of the ship is impressive as was our cabin. As usual the crew were outstanding and so friendly. Our only complaints were that there was no Wheelhouse Bar, no walkable promenade deck and too many activities in the piazza. This made our dining experience at La Mer very disappointing with the very loud band and people trying to sit at vacant tables near the walkthrough and the waiters having to ask them to leave unless they had a reservation. We did not try the Harmony Restaurant which was a separate dining room as La Mer should have been. The flow of the ship was disjointed and broken and trying to get around was at times confusing. We did think the Princess Theatre was very nice and the entertainment very professional. The gym was excellent with lots of cardio equipment. The dining room and Market place meals were all good. We were disappointed that the usually quiet and relaxing Vines Wine Bar was just like any other bar on the ship with people trying to grab all of the tables to put them together for their large and noisy groups. The Hollywood Conservatory being adults only was lovely and quiet. All in all a nice ship but just lacking some of the familiar ambiance of some of the older ships. Read Less

I like to try different ships and different cruise lines. Majestic Princess was coming to Australia, so I booked the 6 night cruise to Tasmania. The ship was all lovely and new, as you would expect from a ship this young, but sadly the only thing that WOWed me, was the Princess theatre. Mostly everything else just seemed like new versions of old concepts. The Lotus Spa onboard was very nice, although I paid for a 50 minute treatment and only got 40 minutes, (disappointing). The Enclave was fantastic, but quickly became crowded and with the main door being left open, people who hadn't paid to use this space had wandered in, adding to the non-availability of lounges etc. There was a great selection of food at the buffet, but the only pizza we found was in the Italian restaurant in the atrium midship. it was very popular, so you had to wait a while for a pizza. I have never cruised before so I really did not know what to expect. But I must say I was bitterly disappointed. The entertainment I feel was really for people in walkers. It was the battle of the walking frames and go go mobiles. Staff were fantastic, cabin was lovely. I probably would not recommend this cruise to anyone under the age of 80. The maintenance of this ship was a joke. Every day on the deck they were painting with toxic varnish which gave me a chest infection as I am sensitive to fumes. They also closed the pool on the first warm day to re paint it. I went up to the deck for a swim to find there was no pool available that day. The next day it was open so I jumped in and got toxic pool paint all over my feet and hands. This paint was then all over the soles of my new shoes. I would not recommend this cruise to young people or to people with allergies. I had to wait for someone to toast my gluten free bread every morning which took at least a half hour and would also have to wait for that staff member to come back to get my toast out of the toaster and hand to me as we could not reach the toaster. One morning I had to go find someone to pass me my toast that had gone cold. I was fed a desert that was made on lactose free milk when I had told them I am strictly no dairy so was sick that night. Wow I could go on forever on how horrible this cruise was. Read Less

We specifically chose this trip to try a brand new ship. We normally sail with Princess but on the smaller sun class (2000 pax) so we didn't know what to expect on the Majestic at 3560 pax built specifically for the Asian market. Check in at Sydney was straight forward with no delay, took about 15 minutes from check in to arriving at our cabin. We had a mini suite on deck 12 (A212) which was very comfortable but nothing special. In hind sight we could have saved some $$ and had a deluxe balcony cabin for the same experience. Other than the free glass of bubbly to welcome us on board, the only other perk we had with the mini suite was a free canape session at 4.30pm each day in the Vista Lounge which we didn't go to as there were too many other things to do. The staff were all friendly and professional and up to the usual standard we have experienced on other Princess ships. There was plenty of room to spread out on the ship and we didn't feel like we were on a crowded ship almost double the size of what we were used to. The Piazza was always crowded as there was always some entertainment there, again the same as other ships. The main dining room service and food was what we have previously experienced, although they were out of 2 wines on day 1. The buffet on deck 16 called the Market Place had a confusing layout to locate food, food was OK, no better or worse than other ships. There were lots of shows and entertainers all high quality. The costumes and stage sets on the main productions were the best we have seen. The biggest criticism from guests and crew was the inadequate size of the Princess Theatre, it held around 1000 pax which was way too small for such a large ship. There were 2 shows per night at 7.45pm and 9.45pm. If you wanted to ensure a seat for 7.45pm, you had to get there no later than 30 minutes before the show. There were often people sitting on the floor and standing. Disembarkation was smooth and took under 30 minutes. Princess is now very popular with older cruisers with most being over 70 on this voyage, there were many mobility aids being used that really slowed up traffic walking from one end of the ship to the other. We are in our 50s so it felt like an old aged home to us. We had expected to be wowed by this brand new ship but we weren't. Read Less

I chose this cruise due to it's Itinerary and my up until now good experience with Princess - this cruise has changed that! Was looking forward to trying the new ship- but was disappointed.Crew were fantastic but there were so many issues with the ship and our cabin that I would not recommend it. Too big- too many things happening in piazza- Princess theatre too small- couldn't hold enough guests- had to be there 1 hour before show time in order to be assured of a seat. Food not as good as usual- often luke warm or overcooked risotto- Flooded balcony even when the sun was shining- issues with balciony door and creaks in the mini suite seiling. Door and creaks sorted out, but despite the staffs efforts, balcony unusable all cruise. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Travel agents took over the boat in the last 4 days making paying guests wait longer in line for dinner ----Elite and platinum area in a horrible area at back of boat- Some good features like Vines wine bar and International cafe and pizzeria- where we ate 6 times on our cruise. Hate that buffet- too busy never enough seats in peak time- Movies OK- some very old. Enteratinment varied- too hard to get into theatre for shows-ahd to line up too long-- need to ticket the theatre so everyone gets a chance. Think the boat is TOO big and the issues with our cabin unbelievable!!!! Read Less

We had been around NZ a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the Princess experience and the NZ scenery so decided to take another trip. We booked the cruise dates and itinary to fit in with work comittments at the time, believing the ship was not as important as prioritising the dates we wanted. So after booking our cruise, our attention then turned to getting information regarding the ship we had booked our cruise on. First alarm went up when we realised the size of the ship and the number of passengers aboard, second alarm raised after checking out previous passenger reviews. Ever the optimists we decided to put aside other peoples opinions and take it as it comes and give the Majestic a 'red hot go'. Sorry to say our experience was similar to so many others 1. Too many people on board and the ship does not cater to service passengers at peak times, be that for seating in the buffet or seats in the theatre or restarant dining or tender disembarkation....too many people not enough spport facilities for the numbers. 2. There is no deck where you can walk around the ship, in fact there is no deck where you can walk in a straight line from the back to the front of the ship without having to go up or down stairs somewhere. This was not only annoying to us but also seriously limiting to those who are mobility impaired. 3. The staff (not everyone but in general) did not seem happy to be there and again I put it down to too many passengers not enough staff. The staff certainly still worked as hard as usual but they didnt have time for the passenger interaction which seems to be a Princess feature on smaller ships that everyone enjoys. The itimate and friendly feel of other cruises we have been on was just plain missing. 4. Food choice and freshness just didnt work in the Marketplace. Food in the buffet was very ordinary with the odd 'star' dish popping out from time to time. We just got the feeling that Princess are cost cutting on the food and were trying to camoflage this in the way the stations were set up... The positives were, as usual the cabin stewards are fantastic and the shows were good (when you can get into the theatre), popcorn and icecream station went down a treat and of course the star of the cruise was NZ. Overall a very disappointing cruise, we will defo not be back on Majestic (nor Regal) in Australia and will stick to the smaller ship experience. Read Less

Thought this would be some thing special, it wasn’t. This was our 6th cruise, we have had some great cruises before. Firstly, upon embarkation, we found someone else’s suitcase had been left behind in our room, our cabin steward removed it but seemed very confused. Next day we found a dirty sock caught up in the curtains...yuk, so much for cleanliness. Our friends cabin had a huge stain on the carpet. The food was bland & neither prepared or cooked as described, worst prawns We have ever tasted, pale, soggy & tasteless. Layout of buffet dining area is a complete shambles, very confusing & overly crowded. Hygiene does not be a priority with guests avoiding hand hygiene ( a totally inadequate small hand washing area ) & disregarding the request not to directly fill thermos flasks / drink bottles from the taps. Food is presented in a haphazard arrangement & it was obvious meals were rehashed from yesterday’s leftovers. Anytime dining is not anytime, often given a beeper & told to go away & wait, often for over 45 minutes. Insufficient seating to cope with the 3,500 passengers, the auditorium was often filled 45 minutes prior to the show commencing, we missed out on a couple of shows as a result. However, the shows were mostly of a high standard & a good variety. The beautiful atrium is over crowded & people seemed to get there & stayed glued to “ their seats “ for hours. The constant “ hard sell “ & fake “ sales “ were over the top, didn’t see many guests in the high end boutiques. The safety briefing was embarrassing, a fake, cheesy voiceover as we were jammed in the auditorium. This ship may be elegantly designed, but spoiled by cheap plastic topiary & trees & ugly artworks. Beware of the sharp thick metal frame on the artwork inside the cabin beside the bed,I bumped into it & scratched & bruised my upper arm. A flu virus went around the ship so sadly my husband, myself & the other couple we travelled with got very I’ll for the second week of our 13 day cruise. I ended up seeing the Dr onboard but was annoyed my prescription was not filled correctly & I had to return the following day as only half the tablets were inside the pack ! This ship was crammed with the elderly & a lot of people with mobility issues, lifts were not able to cope with the demand, lots of waiting & crowded lifts were frustrating for many. Avoid the ridiculously overpriced shore excursions, a trap for the unsuspecting, do your research beforehand & save $$$. I would not recommend cruising on this ship to families / children, Sadly Majestic Princess was a huge disappointment. Read Less

Definitely gone up a couple of notches. Having booked a suite we weren't aware that we had use of the Executive Lounge 24hrs a day with a concierge in the lounge assisting with anything we needed from 7.00am in the morning until 8.00pm at night. Monika did a great job and was always smiling and ready to help in any way. Monika made our trip special. We often had lunch in the lounge chatting with fellow cruisers. We thought it would be wonderful to see the Milford Sound by ship and it was, it was raining and this only made the scenery more spectacular with waterfalls everywhere. The weather improved after this and all the other ports were so pretty and so picturesque to sail into, a balcony was a must, some mornings we layed in bed just watching the scenery sail by. The food for me was quite okay but my husband is a strict vegetarian and he sometimes just had mashed potatoes, French fries and rice for lunch. He could order ahead for the "Anytime Dining" but sometimes you don't know what you will be hungry for the next day. He is rather spoilt at home with his favourite vegetarian meals on request. He says he is willing to put up with just filling up on what he can as he enjoys cruising,he did put on two kilos over the ten days so the food was okay. The Majestic Princess is an amazing ship, just the perfect size, big enough for a person to walk off the calories but not too big. The adults only section of the ship was so fantastic, a very relaxing decor, recorded bird trills added to the ambience and some musical instruments to play for fun. We spent many an hour watching from this area which is at the very front of the ship, there are private cabana and comfortable lounges everywhere. We can't wait for our next cruise on this new ship to our area of the world. Read Less

We liked the Princess@Sea app to keep track of friends although a message chime would have been helpful to alert us of messages. Both embarkation and debarkation went super smooth. Even though this new class of Princess ships are larger than we’ve sailed on in the past, we never got a sense of overcrowding. The fitness center was very well appointed and never seemed crowded. As it was a new ship we thought we would see what it was like. Cabins much smaller than on other smaller ships in the fleet. Our balcony was too small for us to sit on. We had a mini suite & are still waiting to be greeted by our cabin steward & receive our complimentary glass of bubbly. Food, service, entertainment very average. When the CEO boarded the ship in Auckland parts of the ship were closed to the passengers so private functions could be held, e.g indoor pool, Chinese Restaurant, to name just two areas. My mother, who is 84 yrs old, was refused access to the toilet as it was for use only by those attending the private function. She was told to walk all the way to mid ships & use the one there. However the service did rise from very average to excellent, which was really needed. Toilets are very hard to locate on the ship. Rubbish bins are lacking everywhere. Smoking areas are out in the open. The one show we actually managed to see, due to not enough seating. we had seen on a previous cruise. The ship does not have a promenade deck. The shops on board are very high end, Gucci etc so they are catering for the rich passengers. Not enough seating in the Atrium. I could go on & on with what is wrong with this ship. It boils down to them having too many passengers, not enough crew & trying to squeeze it all in with really expanding the ship. Will be looking at another company for our cruising in future as many, many other seasoned Princess passengers has said also. Read Less

We have previously sailed with all the big liners so the decision to book with Princess was a no brainer! Princess are at the top their game?? Are they not?? Or so we are led to believe!! We booked 12 months in advance and couldn’t wait for our trip to come around - We booked and paid for all specialty dining and shore excursions prior to departure - However 3 of our 7 shore excursions were cancelled prior to sailing and we were told via email that the money would be returned to us in the same manner it was paid ie; into our bank account - Yet it wasn’t, after 3 weeks we had received nothing, so we contacted Princess to query where our refund was? We were informed that the money had been credited to our “onboard” account?? Yet we were not even on board?? Are you serious? We didn’t cancel these bookings, Princess cancelled these bookings (and well before sailing) and only after requesting to speak with the manger were we provided with the refund we were entitled!! So our cruise finally arrives, we pre-ordered drinks and snacks for our balcony ready for the sail out of Sydney - 4pm The prawns were described as 10 pieces served on ice with cocktail sauce?? What eventually arrived was 50+ pieces of frozen, unclean, wet, slimy, imported prawns .. Bait prawns could be helpful in describing what arrived but even bait prawns are bigger than the rubbish that we received .. I called room service and advised them that the product we received was definitely not as described on the menu and requested a full refund!!! The room seadvice mgr agreed that the product was of very poor quality and agreed to the refund - Once again credited to our on board account! It’s becomming clearer that Princess will rip you off every chance they get - The passenger must pay even though the cruise company is at fault!! Three days in and another 3 shore excursions are cancelled - We receive notice the night before each excursion (because that’s plenty of time to make new plans for the day ahead) But this time we actually got a an explanation - “Not enough people were interested in the excursion you booked” Well Princess, if you know that your clientele is 80% elderly, why on earth offer excursion options like quad biking, 4 wheel driving and jet boating that only appeal to the odd 20% of passengers? Only to disappoint them and cancel the night before? Maybe you need to revise your excursion options .. This cruise was one problem after another, not only for us but it was common talk amongst guests the the shore excursions were problems for many of them, with cancellations the night before, changes to excursion itineraries without notice, excursion duration shorter than described, itineraries not as described, meals not as described, locations not as described - All common problems with no apologies, reimbursements or refunds .. Honestly, we couldn’t wait to get off the ship, we had very little options on board once our excursions were cancelled .. We saw very little of the country we had paid so much money to see!! We didn’t pay top dollar to stare at the 4 walls of our stateroom, yet that’s exactly what happened! The dining room food was ordinary, not much variety, even the buffet was lacking in appeal .. The specialty restaurants were nice, but we also pay more $$ for these so no surprises here!! This list of problems we had goes on, but who has all day to read about it?? The ship is beautiful, immaculate and the employes are wonderful but unfortunately this doesn’t make up for the personal expense of such a poor experience .. We could have flown to NZ and seen much more for half the cost of this cruise .. Not happy princess, never again! Read Less

First, readers should know that if the itinerary of the Majestic suits your desire, I would not let my negatives dissuade you from booking this ship. This particular cruise covers a good part of Australia and most of New Zealand. Embarkation in Sydney was fairly smooth with the exception of one of our suitcases arriving at our cabin soaked with water pretty much through and through. Everything was wet and we had not even left the dock! The cabin steward and staff were exceptionally helpful though, and they agreed to wash, dry, and hang everything in the suitcase and return it to us within a few hours. They kept their promise and, of course, there was no charge. Our balcony cabin was quite comfortable with more then enough room for all our belongings. The bathroom was about as small as I have seen on a ship. Not an inch more then absolutely required. We ate virtually all of our meals in the dinning room where we found excellent service and a good choices at every meal. The food was beautifully presented and, and always adequate. Steaks were my last choice as they were the least appealing. Fish and pasta wishes were much better. This voyage had 5 sea days including 3 back to back sea days. While others may find the on board activities to their liking, I am not a fan of art auctions, karaoke, gambling, shopping or zumba. There were a few lectures about culture and sightseeing but really not enough for my taste. My main complaint is the.that the ship seemed unable to handle the 3500 or more guests she can accommodate. There were two shows each evening in the Princess Theater and guests would need to arrive as much as 45 minutes early to be sure of a seat. The entertainment staff found this amusing and suggested we "camp out" in front of the door to insure ourselves a seat. Cute, but not really funny. However, if you don't care about the shows or like to stay up a bit later and catch the late show, this will not be bothersome. The shows themselves were lavishly produced and the local talents were enjoyable enough. Princess says that saving chairs on deck is not permitted, however, its unlikely any crew member would enforce this and as far as I am concerned, they should have a contest for the most creative deck-chair saving method. I was quite impressed with the one shoe method. The Majestic Princess is a large ship- about 144,000 MT. She seemed designed to insulate passengers from the sea. From the window-less theater through the main deck 7 with heavy curtains or the dinning rooms with small windows, passengers rarely see the sea. Some readers might enjoy this as you can easily forget you are moving at 17 or more knots and will be delighted to see a new port when you open your windows in the morning. This observation is strictly personal. Finally, disembarkation, with so many passengers was a bit hectic but we were off the ship and our way in a bout 90 minutes after we left our cabin. Read Less

Our overall impression is one of disappointment. Nothing about the large ship experience can be considered to enhance the customer's enjoyment. Compared to a "small" ship having a guest population of about 1200, our experience on the Majestic Princess included sub-standard food (cool or pre-packaged), and an abyssmal disembarkation experience in Auckland. The day of disembarkation cannot be considered as part of the cruise, as guests are hustled out of their staterooms and off the ship as quickly as possible. The port in Auckland is terrible, too, when it has to accommodate embarking and disembarking passengers simultaneously. THE SHIP IS TOO LARGE! Staff service is excellent, however. Friendly and attentive, all staff seemed to be doing their utmost. However, there are simply too many people to allow extensive one-to-one service. The layout of the ship is a bit wonky, too. You can't get to the Allegro dining room on deck 6 by walking on deck 6; you have to travel along deck 7 then descend the stairs. A black spot for the naval architect, Read Less

I had a great experience a year ago on a Princess Cruise in the Mediterranean. But this one was disappointing. The food on this cruise was repetitive and uninteresting. Chefs say this is a new corporate directive. In addition, Princess did not accommodate lactose intolerance or shellfish allergy. This is very surprising since the average age on board was about 65. Lactose Intolerance is most prevalent in older adults. I may be the only person to lose weight on a cruise. Not a good endorsement for the food. Much of the staff was friendly and very helpful. Stateroom well equipped, clean, and comfortable. The itinerary was excellent with many stops in New Zealand and Australia. The EZ air option and staff provided no support. I did my own arrangements and saved $19,000! And I traveled in Premium or business class. We love to cruise but will be looking at other options outside of Princess for our next cruise. Read Less

My first cruise - didn't know what to expect! I was thoroughly impressed with all aspects of this cruise. Clean rooms, clean EVERYTHING!, friendly staff, amazing food, good entertainment (mostly), and great ports. The dine in meals were very well presented as was the service provided by the wait staff. I was told that the Marketplace dining could be a bit 'cattle trough' on other ships so was interested to see. marketplace dining was amazing. The variety of food, well presented and an everchanging menu made it a fabulous choice for any meal. Room stewards went the extra mile every day, making our cruise a delight. Cocktails were a highlight each day. My only criticisms are that the adult indoor pool could have been warmer as the weather was quite cool, and I was disappointed that there was no happy hour. All in all??? A fabulous experience that has me already looking for my next cruise! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to do a cruise across the ditch from Sydney to Auckland and the Fiordlands. The cruise and staff were excellent. It was only the ship that let down our experience. With such a small Theatre only holding 960 passengers for a ship that holds 3,600 passengers it is never going to allow everyone to see the shows. We had to arrive at the theatre 45 minutes before to get a seat and 95% of seats were already taken when we arrived. The Buffet on deck 16 called "The Marketplace" is a terrible layout with about 5 aisles so you virtually have to go through every aisle to find what you want because they don't all have the same items. I love blue cheese and it is usually available at least every second day on previous Princess Cruises. On this cruise it was only out 3 time in 13 days. I was told I could ask for it which I did one day but I had to wait 15 minutes and when it arrived it was a dessert bowl full just for me. This really was ridiculous. You have to ask for orange juice and lemonade, they only have 2 very small areas for tea, coffee and iced tea. They leave supposedly clean cups on all of the tables, trouble is you don't know if anybody has already handled them. They did not have anyone stationed to ensure passengers washed there hands before entering the buffet which is very unusual these day. Other than that it was a great cruise but I will not sail on this ship again. Everyone I spoke with agreed the same as what I have written above and recon that the smaller Princess ships are better. I think the only thing bigger about this ship is the number of cabins, there does not appear to be any bigger areas of relaxation for passengers. Read Less

We wanted to see Australia & NZ is why we booked this. We had been on 2 other Princess cruises, but were smaller ships, and many years ago. FOOD- I am a vegan & they did accommodate me, although when I booked they had a smoothie bar, but took it out for our cruise. VERY DISAPPOINTED! My husband liked the food & sometimes we waited a long time for dinner. SHIP-TO BIG & TO MANY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! EXCURSIONS-They wanted you to designated area early but had to wait a long time to get started. The personnel talked to the people like they were little children, no respect! Some Excursions were to short, didn't have enough time & felt rushed! We arrived late to some of them but still had to be back at the designated time. One excursion I asked for a vegan lunch & a wake up call but did not get either. So we had to rush and missed breakfast. ACTIVITIES ON SHIP- If you like to gamble, shop & buy jewelry this is for you. I tried line dancing but the Piazza is to small for all the people so you run into people, no fun. Would of liked to Zumba but no room. Did do Tai Chi in area near indoor pool, so had a chlorine smell. Also a lot of rude people & employees walked between the teacher & people taking class. Sea days were very boring not much for me to do! Also to many sea days. CABIN- nice with a balcony although didn't get to use it much as the weather was cold most of our trip. ENTERTAINMENT-Most of it we did not care for and was so LOUD in theater! Always very crowded if you wanted to get a seat you had to get there an hour early!! They didn't want you to save seats either. CUSTOMER SERVICE PRIOR TO EMBARKATION-It seems with each agent you get told something different to the point you do not know what is the correct information. I cancelled an excursion for my husband way in advance before trip & it was supposed to be credited back to my visa but it was not. I called customer service but received two different stories & It went on the ship credit. We will not go with Princess again. Read Less
