I travelled with another seasoned cruise couple (over 80 cruises) and had a balcony room to myself on Deck 11. First thing I noticed was that - being out of Australia - it was decked out as from America - ok....they are from America but have been sailing out of Australia for years now. The majority of patrons were Australian so why were the shops etc - not Australian based, selling Australian good and snacks?? I had an issue with the food - in the BUFFET the choice was fine although I could not eat any of the preprepared hot food as it mostly came in plastic bags and simply heated and reheated. Who knows what was in any of it. The sweets looked great, were creative enough, although, again, I could not eat it after tasting some initially as, for example, the APPLE CRUMBLE was 10% apple, 90% crumble if you were lucky (shame). no icecream either. The premade coffee was disgusting ... and I am not too fussy .... but I saw them remove this premade coffee from under the dispenser and saw it premixed coming out of a plastic bag. I have never seen that before not did I ever think I would. I had no issue with the dining areas although you only had one choice of dining as such that was included in your fare. The paying extra restaurants were relatively empty for the 14 days. That tells you enough. Another thing was the entertainment. It was ok. The shows were nothing to write home about and the guest artists were good but again, not great. They only went for 1/2 hour - never experienced that before. You no longer sat down and you had to get up and leave again :-)) There were no movies in the movie theatre - instead they were all on top deck out in the weather. When they were on, the sound was so loud you could not hear anyone talking to you. Such a beautiful theatre too. I have been on another cruise where this theatre was used for movies (as it should) and the ambience and mood was fantastic. I left an item on deck one evening and on realising, went back early the next morning and it was not there. I reported it missing and was told it will be handed in within the next 24 hours or so. It wasn't so I requested security to look at the video of the area that night. Reception staff told me that it was not important enough an item (of no value to them) to have security go through the footage. Luckily, it was handed in days later and very suspiciously so. No matter ... I have it back. The excursions were good and well organised. shuttles to town centres were great, embarkation was fast, disembarkation was also fast. So ... would I go with them again - probably but I would know what to expect. Value for money????? To be fair - probably. Read Less

Thought it would be a great little spring get away..Was not disappointed. It was a 4 day cruise to Albany and Busselton From Fremantle. Service was great. The ship looks pretty good after her small facelift..The Food was as usual very good and the New Curtis Stone restaurant, Share was excellent. Due to the inclement weather we were unable to stop at Busselton on the way back however the activities on board kept us entertained.. I have cruised many many times. The Sun Princess is not The QM2 and does not pretend to be ..nor is she the Oasis but she is a clean and comfortable..with wonderful staff.. My only request would be, better Coffee in the Horizon Buffet and not such long queues for a coffee at the Coffee shop. I do prefer a ship of the Sin Princess size. it is easy to get around. The Lounges and Atrium areas are lovely with lots of entertainment..There are also nice quiet areas such as The Library if you want some quiet time.Great Value. The overall experience was enjoyable. The food was mostly good, sometimes very average but occasionally excellent. The shore excursions were partially spoiled by having to go to ‘shopping’ experiences such as gemstone factories that used extremely high pressure sales techniques. The coffee was terrible - both the free coffee and the paid coffee, I recommend you give up coffee during your cruise and drink tea. The staff were superb, very friendly and helpful. It was disappointing that all the extras were expensive such as $30 to play bingo. The deck chairs were comfortable. The bed and pillows were luxurious. Some of the onboard games and entertainment was fun. The cruise band, dancers and singers were excellent. Overall it seemed as though they were always trying to extract more money out of you by encouraging you to but gimmicky artwork, jewellery, expensive shore excursions or buying alcohol, ice cream or coffee. Chose this cruise for a couple of reasons, 1 left from Fremantle, 2 Sun Princess, love it. Embarkation, no complaints at all getting better compared to other cruises we have done from Fremantle. Love taking my bottles of Prosecco on board too! Cabin interior, small but we knew that, comfortable bed and pillows, NO smells and spotlessly clean thanks to our wonderful steward. Food was amazing in the buffet or dining room. We cruised with friends who had only cruised Cunard Queen Mary before and they said that the food and ambience on board SP was better. The shows were good, played Trivia most days, loved the Crossing of the Equator ceremony which is probably my only muse that P&O do their theme nights and parties better, Princess could have at least one per cruise. Never had a problem getting a sun bed and Movies Under the Stars with popcorn was great. The seas were calm and the weather warm. Monsoon came in on time this year with us getting very wet in Phuket at Patong, which you could get to and most people did go ashore. It was a long ride to Patong and the weather did spoil it but not Princess's fault. We were on a local ferry for the tender and that was a bit dodgy. Tendering process when used was very efficient hardly any waiting. Captain made nice announcements and speeches but gave off a clear message not to make contact with him when he walked around ! Great staff behind the counter who had to deal with some horrible, nasty guests complaining about things they should have known about eg turning up on the last night with wads of cash to pay their account which had already had holds put on their credit card everyday and going nuts that they couldn't be taken off...if you have the cash put it on up front and the credit card does not get touched. And some complaining about the end of Ramadan holiday and the monsoon season, maybe research next time. Apart from that we loved that there were not a lot a whingers around the ship as we have had on other cruises, again just them nothing really to complain about! Would love to go on her again especially after the refurb she is currently undergoing, just loved every minute of every day. Some people are just hard to please and I can be as well but no complaints here on this cruise. Getting off in Singapore a breeze compared to previous cruises, new terminal straight out and into maxi cab no waiting. Stayed at Furama as part of the Princess deal, loved it again with Executive Club room and extras. Love Singapore. Only gripe was the Qantas flight home, again as part of Princess package, very small plane, hot cramped, non reclining seats, 2 loos for all economy class, tiny hard seats, miserable crew. All passengers complaining about this plane, much too small for this length of flight. Will book on larger plane myself next time as have done for previous cruise very cheap flights on large airbus with Scoot. We have been on the Sun Princess before and although getting on in years it had been refurbished in parts and is just delightful. The staff as always were helpful and friendly. The entertainment was just fabulous and the singers and dancers got a standing ovation most nights.Dining options were good although the steakhouse menu and situation on the ship was not appealing so we did not go there this voyage. The excursions were very, very expensive and so much cheaper if you got off and booked at the pier in each port.Never sure why they insist on charging $25 for each photo taken during the voyage-charge less and sell twice as much! The main dining room meals and service were excellent although a very limited wine menu. The international cafe had 24 hour fresh pastry and amazing sweet treats.Getting on and off the ship was painless. The cabin steward ensured our cabin was always clean and the chocolates each night were a lovely touch. Short break for 82 wedding anniversary. Relaxing away from a busy life. Did not participate in many activities due to physical disabilities. Enjoyed the entertainment, music, comedian, crew show and singers and dancers. Took part in the Marriage game which was very funny and was most enjoyable. The room steward was excellent. We were happy with the service in the restaurant, however sometimes the food was slow in being served. We had been to Tasmania previously by ferry and road. Therefore, we did not participate in the tours provided by Sun Princess. We did go ashore at each port and saw many new places that were not previously available on our last encounter. The new centre at Port Arthur was excellent as against the original we saw in the 1960s. The embarkation and disembarkation processes were well managed and very efficient. The décor of the ship is becoming a little dated. The tender boat windows leaked profusely on our way to Port Arthur. All in all we enjoyed our trip. Read Less

It's hard not to compare to previous cruises on Celebrity Solstice but to sum up first Sun Princess is an older ship with older guests. Solstice excels on style and dining but that's not what matters , what does matter is "did we enjoy ourselves????..YES we did ! " Sun Princess had ..... Excellent happy crew , genuine service, no hard sell, no long waits for a drink at a bar, brilliant open air cinema , Adult only Sanctuary (fee) comfortable clean cabins , new beds and bedding , easy embarkation and disembarkation plus friendly fellow cruisers. We don't go for destinations or excursions, cruising is a very individual experience . We like good dining and good service , quite places to relax and read , and a choice of on board entertainment and enrichment offers. Dining in MDR was a pleasant experience because of the excellent waiters however the quality of cuisine and presentation was well below the standard we experienced on Solstice. Only serious issues was that Noro Virous has plagued this ship on subsequent cruises. We were fortunate to benefit from numerous deep cleans , and were not aware of any major outbreaks on our cruise . However there were some restrictions such as closed library, waiter serve only at Horizon ( lifted in last 2 days ) no handshaking and the obvious delayed departure and constant updates on health issues. We presumed that other passengers were happy to comply with strict hygiene to have a healthy cruise. We carried on our on deep clean in our cabin taking onboard detol soap, sprays, wipes gels and a huge bag of medications . We have had Noro as well as the bronchitis cough on Solstice so like to take as many precautions as possible. Other negative was our Deck 9 Aft cabin corridors had a disgusting smell please see cabin review. Read Less

We chose this cruise for its Southern Australian itinerary, which was excellent. Princess has a lot to be proud of, but are letting themselves down in some areas (as follows): I had sheets with holes in them on my bed They were changed, at my request, on day 6 (this is seriously not good enough....the linen should not be so thin that it had developed holes). A fitting in the shower was coming apart - our cabin steward said it was left that way for ease of cleaning. The bathroom mirror needed to be replaced. A number of the fake cane chairs at the outside Terrace Grill were damaged, with large holes in the seats. I can only guess they were not sturdy enough to accommodate heavier passengers who sat in them. On the plus side, Sun Princess catered brilliantly for my diary intolerance. In general the food and wait staff were excellent (particularly in the formal Regency Restaurant). The Captain and his head staff, directed the crew, who worked long hours for the last 7 days of the cruise to try and contain the horrendous norovirus outbreak on board. They did this with professionalism in trying conditions. (This outbreak was not the ships fault - good hygiene needs to be practised by passengers to prevent an outbreak.) Compared to other cruise lines I have sailed with, I found Sun Princess underwhelming and in many areas did not meet my expectations of a 4.5 star cruise line. Read Less
