Chose this cruise mainly to see St Petersburg, Estonia, Stockholm and Copenhagen. Excellent to have the overnights in Stockholm and Copenhagen and especially two nights in St Petersburg. We found both the embarkation and disembarkation went well for us and I didn't hear anyone we spoke to complaining about it. Found the ship easy to navigate and liked that there are not too many people on board. All the staff we spoke to were all friendly and helpful. Great having the Solarium on the cooler days and will look for that on other ships when we choose our next cruise. Very good entertainment at the different areas around the ship and people seemed to join in with the crew. Bingo was a bit of a rip-off so won't do that again but did have a go on the pokies and won $500. Good variety and quality of food in the free dining areas. (we didn't try any that you had to pay for) We didn't do any of the ship's shore excursions so can't comment on them. (we did do a tour in St Petersburg with TJ Travel and would highly recommend them) Will definitely travel Royal Caribbean again! Read Less

Have just completed cruise with Costa from Stockholm to Russia back to Stockholm and then down to Italy. Total around 21 days. Ship was built in 2004. Although I suffered from food poisoning on the last night, Dining in Restaurants and Buffett was quite good. Accommodation although a bit dated was good and consider room quite comfortable with a good mattress. The waiters and room attendants were good. That is the good points. The pool area was quite acceptable. Now the bad points. My cabin was in the lower section of the ship and during normal cruising quite comfortable, however when the boat exceeded 21 knots, the noise was unbearable and the cabin actually was shaking. So take the upper decks if you intend to book this ship. On 3 normal nights I was unable to sleep!. This was mentioned to the wonderful staff!! on the Hospitality Desk and who really showed little interest which was normal practice. There is definitely no customer service in this particular section of the Boat along with the Excursion staff. I went on numerous excursions and whilst I accepted that they might have been a bit expensive I could not believe how incompetent they were. The Russian excursion was excellent. The excursions I booked to Tallin, Rouen, Lisbon and Marseilles failed miserably due to various factors like the tour guide was either disinterested, on medication or something other or showed little interest in our group. The Excursion to Rouen in particular was crazy. We had just 1 guide with more than 20 English and more 20 German passengers. No headphones were provided and the guide alternated between German and English, spoke too low, was disinterested and nobody could hear her. Just crazy. On the tour of Tallin , 5 passengers were left behind due to no fault of their own, just incompetence by the tour guide and forced to either take taxi's back to the boat or walk back. This was explained to the Excursions Staff with little interest. I was not refunded for my taxi fare!! Other problems experienced including the internet packages. Although this ship appears to take this cruise on numerous occasions the internet packages never worked or provided the service advertised. A rip off. Other little things that were charged for was, breakfast in cabin, ice cream/crepes, Ice Cream Trolley and water. Despite having a Drinks package I was unable to be provide with bottled water. Had to pay 3 Euro. Just crazy. I guess another downside was that Costa Magica was always docked the furthest from the town. Compulsory Hotel service charges were also a surprise which the Australians were not aware of until arriving on board. No mention of these charges by Touring Company in our Booking Contract. In Costa's Tour Values they state Clear and Transparent prices and no unpleasant surprises. The only trouble is that you are not aware until you arrive on the ship. As one Passenger mentioned, it is always a good idea when talking to Costa Staff to keep both hands in your pockets!. Despite written assurances that excursions etc would be paid at the end of the cruise, they were taken out on a daily basis. Another broken promise.! Many Australians experienced troubles with this cruise. I would never travel with these people again and that is felt by most people. If Costa do come to these waters, stay away. They are plenty of good Cruise company's better. Read Less

I'll start off with this - I did not even want to go to the cruise as I had apprehensions about being sea sick and bored..but NOW I'm converted, and really, I'd recommend it whole heartedly to anyone! So -- all in all, I'd say it was fantastic. There was something for all age groups - young kids, teenagers, twenties, thirties, young couples, middle aged couples, and elderly people as well! I'm telling everyone it was like being on floating 5 star hotel! All in all - here's what I thought were par excellence: -Staff: Everyone was friendly, professional, went out of their way to ensure they could help - whether it be bringing food for someone who couldn't walk well; or cleaning the room thrice a day. Also, if you're South Asian, the staff were more than happy to bring you a handmade roti/chappati at Windjammer Hall - all you have to do is ask! -Entertainment: evenings were fully booked! Theater, dance, drama, movies, dance nights, you name it - it was all there. -Sports: I loved the mini golf and table tennis/ping pong! Jogging track was great -- jogging while staring at the ocean, who wouldn't like that! -Serenity/ease: The ride was smooth sailing. Not a moment of turbulence AT ALL. At times I had to look outside to ensure we were even sailing, it was that smooth! -Timing: We were at every destination at the times promised. -Ease of embarkation and disembarkation at all ports: NO long lines, no waiting for ever - everything was smoothly handled thanks to the security staff throughout. -Views: Lovely Baltic Sea views throughout, to help you de-stress, unwind, and just enjoy the sea! -Food: Can I say food, food, food! The Windjammer Dining Hall (included in cruise price) has unlimited breakfast buffet, lunch buffet and dinner buffet. And the buffet was extravagant - 50 dishes (minimum!), salads, vegetarian, chicken, meat, sea food - gluten free, catering to whatever your dietary restrictions may be. They had a special theme every night, so we had Spanish food, Seafood, Indian food, French food night among others. -Snacks: No matter what time of the day - you will find unlimited tea, coffee, snacks, chips -- especially at the Park Café on Floor11 :) -Attention to cleanliness: We were really impressed by the attention to cleanliness - all public spaces, Centrum, public bathrooms were always spotless; and they had unlimited hand sanitizer there before you entered the Dining Hall. Really good initiative! -Lack of crowd: Although there were about 2500 passengers, 700 staff, at no point did the ship feel overflowing or crowded. This is thanks to all the space, and different entertainment areas they had, including multiple dining halls (Reflections Dining Room, Windjammer included in ticket price). -Cabin: We had an Ocean View Balcony view on Deck 7. This was ideal as since it is in the middle of the ship, it is very smooth and you can't feel the water. Having a balcony is recommended as it makes the room spacious, and allows you some air. Recommend. It was a double bed plus a bunk bed on top ( for the 3rd person); sofa; TV, bathroom, cupboard, mini fridge, AC etc. All in all, it felt a good size and not cramped at all. -Fellow passengers: Fellow passengers were friendly and nice. No large and noisy groups, no drunk people. Mostly families, singles, couples - everyone was decent and respectful. Read Less

Having heard much, but never actually experienced cruising in the past, my wife and I decided to try a new way of vacationing. I had expected to be satisfied at the end of the Cruise, of course. However, looking back on the experience after a couple of days, I can assure you that it was much better than I had expected. My wife shares this sentiment. I first learned about the ship and its facilities from the information provided by the agent with whom we booked the Cruise. I got more information provided by Royal Caribbean International on the Internet. Should you do something similar, feel sure that you can rely on the positive things you read. I must commend the ships' staff, and say lots of good things about the Ship, the Cabin, Dining , Entertainment Activities, the Service and the Ports and Excursions. Since these would be very positive words, I guess you can imagine what I can write. We travelled with members of our extended familiy, yet had the opportunity to meet and interact with lots of people (both staff members and passengers) from many different nationalities. The friendly and relaxed athmosphere encourages this interaction. This is also an outcome of the work done by the staff (those we came in contact with, and the large numbers who work behind the scenes). I strongly recommend this Cruise and hope you have a positive experience, too. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. We had wanted to visit St. Petersburg for some time and this cruise offered 3 days to explore and were not disappointed. Embarkation was easy despite the weather. Cabin was complete with birthday balloons and was well located. Dining was pleasant in Discoveries restaurant though sometimes felt the menu was a little limited. Windows café was nice when sitting outside (weather permitting) however the choices were sometimes limited and the drinks service could be a little slow during the evening. A huge advantage and a major reason we chose this ship was the smaller size which allowed for a more intimate feel throughout and the berthing locations were very close to the city centres. We met some wonderful people on board during dining times and on our excursions and due to the smaller size of the ship we were lucky enough to bump into them often. Overall we had a fantastic time, met some wonderful people, visited some beautiful cities and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Read Less

This was our 8th cruise with RC and we were excited for the many ports, especially three days in St. Petersburg. Really liked that the ship spent two days in Stockholm, three in St. Petersburg and two in Copenhagen at the end of the cruise. Royal Caribbean usually does a good job with embarkation but the first day, the Windjammer was a mess, totally packed, no seats for everyone. Getting a nice table for My Time Dining was difficult...the dining room hosts were harried and not easy to work with the first two days. It just seemed to be unsettled for a few days... then got better. The ship is tired and in need of refurbishing. It's also felt quite small and crowded for the number of passengers. The food was just okay. Two years ago, we were blown away by the specialty restaurants. This time, after eating at Giovanni's and Chops...we felt the dining room food was just as good. The staff has been reduced and those left work very had and are tired. We may try a more upscale cruise line for our next trip.. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the Baltic capitals itinerary, which exactly matched our requirements. Most things that you would expect on a ship with 2,400 passengers was as we expected. The dining options were good and varied, entertainments were available most of the time and of a reasonable quality, our stateroom was well equipped and matched the description in the literature, and transfers to/from the ship were well organised. The only general problem we had was the noise levels. In the main dining room (supposedly a 'sophisticated' experience), the background music was so loud that my wife and I had to yell at each other to make ourselves heard. How large groups fared I shudder to think. Also, the bass player in the band that entertained in the Centrum until midnight could be heard in our cabin on Deck 7, at the far end of the ship. This was totally unnecessary, as their audience sat only 25/50 yards from where they were playing. If loud, unnecessary noise bothers you, avoid this ship. Read Less

We've chosen this cruise for the ports of call - Baltic cities, specially Saint Petersburg and we were limited with the departure dates. 7 Night Scandinavia and Russia cruise fitted perfectly and we were not sorry. We made perfect choice. The ship is not recent but you don't see this. She is elegant, clean, well equipped. The crew members were helpful, present but descreet. Food is excellent - choice and quality. We were having diners in the main dining room and Windhjamer caffe.Windjhamer caffe can get crowded for the breakfast when ship arrives early at the ports. We had a cabin with the balcony at the 7th deck. It was not very modern, but very specious, clean(twice a day - interesting folded towels every night - nice touch!!) and well equipped, bathroom with a shower as well. There was a wide choice of shore excursions, but we only took 1,5 day + half day excursion in Saint Petersburg and the local guide was excellent. The rest of the cities we explored on our own, since they were much smaller. Very nice first cruise experience that gave us envy to do it again in the very near future. Read Less

Great cruise. All the stops in the Baltic were incredible. Riga is a very very nice city, that surprised us. St Petesburg is a huge city and the Hermitage was too crowded. Peterhof was a very entertaining and educational activity. In Tallin we went to the mediaval castle and had a great time with my child. Very good for grownups and children. The food at the windjammer was very fresh and good. At the Reflections restaurant food every day had its highlights. At Schooners and the bars, they are not very frienndly when you dont ask for non alcoholic beverages, but nothing too bad! The stateroom (I was in an internal one for the first time in my cruiselife!) was good. We were 4 and found place for everyone. Bathroom had everything you needed. The adventure kids club was so good that my son wanted to be all day there! We had to go and pick him up! Great entertainment for kids. Read Less

Amazing staff, food and facilities on Serenade of the Seas. Myself and my wife and two children aged 14 & 16 had a fantastic time and the children especially met some very good similar aged friend from all parts of the globe and will I am sure keep in touch with them for a very long time to come - one of the main reasons why we choose Royal Caribbean in fact as we know that great friendships are built up with the younger passengers as they form groups on board via the 'teenage club' area and do not get bored as there are plenty of activities and things to do around the ship all of the time. This is our third cruise in 4 years with Royal Caribbean and the same things has happened on the two previous cruises which is great. The entertainment is great of an evening and the shore excursions and choice are extensive from short 3/4 hour trips to entire day excursions. The specialty restaurants are just amazing with service to match and we honestly could not find fault with any of the cruise. The one small and regular gripe that seems to happen each time is in respect of the Tips that you can pay in advance when booking the cruise but which we decide not to as we tip dollars throughout the cruise at the various dining areas, specialty restaurants and bars and also leave a sizeable ‘last day tip’ for the room attendant and the main dining room staff who we see most days. Even though we choose not to pay these up front it seems to always be the case that they get added in anyway on board and within 48 hours of the cruise you start to see several $13.50's appear on your room statement (we had two adjacent rooms so I saw 8 of these on the second day!). You then have to visit the Customer Services desk and they will then email the central accounting department and adjustments will then appear within 48 hours. It seem that despite specifically choosing not to pay these in advance when the cruise is booked and choosing to tip the staff yourself in cash, this request seems to be ignored on board and you are automatically charged anyway. This is an easily resolved issue I would say but it should not really happen in the first place. Just be aware of this when you book a Royal Caribbean cruise. I would still 100% recommend Royal Caribbean for your cruise provider and will be looking to book up my families next cruise with them for 2018 very shortly. 5 starts! Read Less

We spent two days and also took the opportunity for a night tour to see the beatifull city at night anf the opened bridges. Tallin, Stockholm and Riga are also beatifull, but we found Helsonki as disappointment. We loved the ship althogh is it not one og the biggest or the newest. The maintanance of the ship is good, it is very clean and looks nice, although you can find a bit of signs of rust if you look for it. The ship crew was very comitted and friendly. The ship's crew provided music, shows and dancing every evenong until late hours. The performance level of the shows and music was really impressive. We also want t mention the food large variety and high quality, althugh the windjammer restaurant was sometimes very croudy. This is our second cruise with Royal Caribbean (the former one was to the Caribbean witj Allure of the Seas) and it is certainly not the last one with RC. Read Less

The Baltic Sea is a wonderful cruising area -- so many fascinating ports. We stayed in Stockholm, Sweden for a few days both at the beginning and the end of the cruise. Embarkation was smooth and fast. In Helsinki, we took the "Free Time at Three Sites" excursion, which was pretty bare bones. It was exactly what it claimed to be -- bus transportation to three different locations -- no further information provided. We took a private tour in St. Petersburg and just walked around Tallinn and Riga on our own. Royal Caribbean provided a shuttle bus between the port and Riga. The shuttle bus was free, which was a surprise. The ship itself was clean and in great shape; the crew was courteous and, for the most part, delivered exemplary service. Our cabin was always kept clean -- I don't know how our steward did it. The Windjammer buffet was crowded at times, so we preferred eating our dinner in the main dining room. When we did eat at the buffet, we appreciated that they had well-prepared Indian food. In the evenings, we didn't attend any of the performances in the Tropical Theater. Instead, we enjoyed the music trivia quizzes or the refreshing Baltic breeze. Read Less

The ship had something for everyone we all needed a vacation and this experience did not disappoint. It was our first cruise experience and we anticipate experiencing many more. From the moment we stepped on the ship to the point of return the staff looked after all our needs and went beyond our expectations. The ship catered for all our needs my youngest son aged 12 was occupied throughout with different sports, clubs and entertainment opportunities. What an excellent variety of restaurants, the food and wine was simply top class, entertainment facilities / shows were great fun. The excursions were fun and safe and the guides were very informative. We would definitively travel with this company and ship again. The Port and shore excursions were very good, Only problem was the large number of people from different tours in St. Petersburg, Russia. It was very challenging to follow to tour guide. The entertainment at the cruise could have been a little better. The movies selected were not so great. Overall we are very pleased with this trip. I would recommend it specially for the itinerary and the range of interest. St. Petersburg has been on our bucket list for years, and now we got the opportunity to see the great city. It was really a fantastic experience. Booked a 2 days tour with Alla Tours, and had the most knowledgeable guide in Alexander. He really made our tour perfect. I'm more than happy to recommend this tour operator to furture cruise guests. And when the departure port is 1 hour by plane from home, it was a bonus. The ship is ok, even though she's "getting old". Staff is serviceminded and helpful. We've never been on a cruise in the vacation-season, and found it really noisy in Windjammer. Lots of kids (I wonder what was exiting for them with this itinarary..) and teens, talking very load. We even had to ask them to talk with lower voices. Check in and check out went really smooth. All-and-all it was a cruise and a ship as expected. Read Less

First, the on-line service team instructed me ( a few days before sail) to check in at a specific time (5 hours before departure) which is never mentioned from the beginning; when I inquire about this arrangement, they answered this is just "every other cruise line does". This is very inconsiderate as not every passenger living in the set-off port or nearby, this kind of arrangement should be informed at the time of purchase so that I can arrange transport well before. They also mentioned passengers can check in at their convenience up to 1.5 hours before departure if purchasing suites stateroom. If this is not discrimination, what should it be called? Second, I dropped my 9 year-old kid at playzone at 12/F of the ship; he actually left a few minutes before my arrival when I went back to pick him up. When I asked the staff there, she didn't know the whereabouts of him and didn't recognise him. It is alright she could not remember all the names of the kid and I never expect her to do so. However, when I asked her to check the sign in book or let me see, she didn't even take a glance of that and told me the sign in book being confidential. I can't appreciate the confidentiality of this book at all because it was just laid open on the counter to let every body signing in. This staff is very arrogant and unhelpful. Third, on the last day morning before leaving the ship, I received a notice of charging US$25 for pool towel because I once borrowed it on the first/second day of the trip. This charges is due to non-returning of the towel; however, I did return it and clearly told the poolside staff the number of my stateroom but he didn't pay attention and just dropped the towel into bag. The staff at the centrum handling my situation on the last day morning told that we should swipe the card upon returning. If they think this towel so "valuable", why didn't they send reminder to me earlier and instead on the last morning? More, this kind of towels are freely used in sauna room and no registration needed, is this far from consistency? The only conclusion I can draw is high rate of poolside towel usage coins higher rate of trapping the swimmers. When you are introverted/quiet/hurry-to-leave passengers, you fall into this trap and pay for this US$25 towel. What a "good" money sucker? Other minor stuff such as poor wifi service in contrast to "luxury" charges (~US90 for single device for 7days trip); I find my wifi egg (covering whole europe) still get reasonable connection even off shore or in the middle of the sea and it just cost US$50 for three devices for 8days. High shore excursion prices are expected but no mandarin speaking tour guides provided. The only thing I like is the reflection dining room where I can enjoy good services and food. I board the ship and ready to spend because of good service and hate those childish trick to squeeze my money. Read Less

We were both looking forward to this cruise as we had never been to the Baltic countries but our experience on board the ship and subsequent dealings with Royal Caribbean " Executive Office" has left us very negative about the attitude of RC to customer issues. Our concerns began when it took 4 weeks for RC to answer a question about transport from the ship at the end of the cruise to the airport. In the end we got two conflicting answers from the UK office and the USA office and booked transfers ourselves. Part of our deal was 40% discount off bottles of wine priced up to $100 at all bars and restaurants onboard. This was not a drinks package its was part of the Ultimate dining package. But no one onboard knew about it !!. Twice on day one we were refused the discount and had to visit guest relations to complain and receive our discount .This was done and we were reassured all bars and restaurants were informed about the deal and we would have no further issues. But it happened again on day 2 and once again Guest Services apologised applied the discount and informed us the Food and Beverage Director would be in touch. Again on the evening of day 2 we were refused the discount and again Guest Services applied the discount and promised that the F&B Director would make contact - but he never did . It wasn't just the fact that the deal was denied us It was the manner in which it was done each time we were made to feel like we were lying. On day 4 we went to the main restaurant Reflections where first the waiter refused the deal but then the manager refused the deal . He marched off to guest services and returned with a business card and took delight in front of other guests to direct us to Guest Services .We went but it turned out he had told them we had said we were on a drinks package which we weren't .So once again Guest Services applied the discount. But before we did that we had ordered a special meal Lobster and fillet steak - it arrived burnt to a crisp - couldn't get the lobster off the shell it was so burnt .I called over the F&B beverage manager and all he could say was that he wasn't the chef !!. We can't prove the food was destroyed on purpose after the wine incident but it was an uncanny coincidence -.we walked out without eating . Anyway we were refused the discount deal on 8 occasions . In addition we had a pre- booked shore excursion to Tallin cancelled with 36 hours notice. We had pre booked and paid for a wine tasting but on arrival at the tasting they had no record of our booking and couldn't believe what we paid - other guests had paid $10 we paid £17. Our cabin was on the 10th floor directly underneath the Windjammer restaurant and every morning at 6am the food trolleys would screech across the floors ( our ceiling) and wouldn't stop until 10pm every single day . We asked ( at our expense ) to upgrade but there wasn't another cabin. So we put up with the noise . But the final humiliation was to be saved for the final evening. After finally having a trouble free day and evening and a lovely meal at Chops Grille we decided to go to Vintages bar to have a last evening few drinks followed by last evening shopping. But to our horror when ordering our drinks we were informed our account was blocked and that we had to go to guest services . Well this was our last evening! we had used our Amex linked to the account on the ship as instructed to online and also presented it at embarkation so we couldnt understand why on the last evening it was blocked. Anyway after standing in an enormous queue of people checking and settling their final bills . We were told that the limit on our Amex card had been exceeded . And that we had a problem . Explaining that this was impossible but not knowing what to do we retired to our cabin completely distraught . Worrying that we may not be allowed off the ship. I returned to guest relations and waited patiently in another long queue ( it was now well after 11pm). I explained to a really nice girl the issue she explained that we had gone over the ship onboard limit by $169 dollars.I explained that wasn't possible I had several thousand dollars credit on my card. Anyway I agreed to pay the $169 to unblock the account - which I duly did using my Amex !! Which magically was accepted. Anyway night ruined plus all the other issues -cruise ruined.Amex bill checked on return to the UK and only one transaction on statement for full amount so there was no issue !! We got back to the UK and emailed our experiences to RC and waited and waited ( RC promises 72hr turn around) but after two weeks I decided to write to the UK Managing Director. Three days later I received a phone call on a Friday evening at 7pm from their Executive Office representative phoning on behalf of the UK MD. Acknowledging all the issues but as compensation offered a discount off a future cruise. So in other words they accepted all the issues and that our cruise had been ruined but wanted us to buy another cruise to receive compensation - unbelievable. I declined and suggested the offer should be unconditional. So I waited and waited for the offer in writing but it didn't come. So after a further two weeks I wrote to the UK managing Director again giving him the chance to make good all the issues . One month later on the 19th Sept Tiffany emailed me to once again apologise but repeat that compensation was conditional on the purchase of a future cruise I have to say in 38 years of overseas holidays this is the single worst experience not only with the issues onboard the Serenade of the Seas but the failure of the people at the very top of the organisation to take seriously a genuine customer complaint. I nor any of my family and friends would travel with Royal Caribbean again. I hope this rather long review helps others make decisions with whom they travel with in future. Read Less

There were four of my family members who took this cruise. We were enticed by the ports. The makeup of the passengers included passengers from over 50 countries making for an international experience. We chose dining at "My Time" . Our waiters were friendly and timely. The daily menu in the main dining room changed daily with a selection of popular food items being offered daily. The crew were friendly and helpful. The nightly entertainment in the theater was some of the best that I have encountered throughout my cruising experience. The cruise director, Topi, was an outstanding. . Other entertainment on the ship such as the piano bar and lounge shows were of high quality. We chose do do shore excursions offered by the ship and were very pleased. The only negative experience was going through passport control in St. Petersburg as it took 90 minutes standing in line to get through. Read Less

We chose this Baltic cruise because of the interesting destinations — and weren't disappointed. Helsinki, St Petersburg, Tallinn, Germany, Copenhagen, Oslo and disembarking in Amsterdam. The ship was great, staff incredibly helpful and friendly, and a good mix of nationalities — lots of Canadians, Aussies and Mexicans as well as the usual large US contingent. The food was a bit of a let down, and a lot of it very poorly described. A tagine allegedly including apricots and raisins was fruit-free and very bland. Cchocolate fondant turned out to be a chocolate mousse made with too much gelatine. Steaks were a safe bet. On the German stop there was a discount for speciality dining, but too be honest, even with a heft discount it was not worth the money. We ate in the Tuscan Grill. Starters were fine, but it went downhill from the lobster pasta which was killed by a creamy sauce with way too much garlic. Don't get me wrong, I like garlic and cook with it regularly, but not in this quantity. It was overpowering and the lobster could have been tofu it was so drowned in garlic. I thought my tastebuds were completely trashed until they served the steak I'd order for main courses. It was soooo salty it was almost inedible. Puddings were so disappointing we didn't bother — and please, if you're offering a complementary drink can you offer an alternative to limoncello. A chilled vin santo perhaps? We've spent a lot of time in different parts of Italy and have eaten in some great Tuscan restaurants — and this bore no resemblence to any of them. If you're a foodie, avoid. Our top tip would be if you're in St Petersburg, check out TJ Travel for your excursions. Much better value than the ship — and a transfer to the ballet (we bought our tickets online) was half the price SPB Tours quoted. Our guide, Daria, and driver, Alexis, were brilliant. Very knowledgable and managed to steer us around crowds and road closures due to the Moscow Marathon. The 2-day highlights tour packs in all the must-sees and included early admission to the Hermitage to avoid the queues. Couldn't recommend them highly enough. They are so confident of customer satisfaction they don't ask for payment until then end — says it all. Read Less

Celebrity is our cruise line of choice and we were excited to see the Baltic countries. Two great overnights in Copenhagen and St Petersburg. We also had pretty decent weather. We really enjoyed our private tour in St Petersburg with Tailored Tours. Recommended in Rick Steves guide book. Guide Kate was fantastic. We custom created what we wanted to see. Loved Stockholm, and Copenhagen. Great time onboard ship. Entertainment was better than usual. Tuscan Grill meal was disappointing this time and we typically always eat there at least once. All during our meal the ship pushed out waste into the wake. It ruined my appetite to see the waste being dumped all during dinner. Main cabin food and service was great. Cabin was good, but couch surface was stained. They came to replace couch arm first night as it was scratched and ripped. We had not requested this, but wish they would have replaced couch cushions. Our roll call administrators were fabulous and we enjoyed meeting our fellow roll call crew. Good times! Read Less

My wife and I selected this cruise to celebrate our 50th Anniversary with our daughters and their family and my wife's brother and his spouse. This was the fourth time we have sailed on the Silhouette, so we knew our experience on board would be outstanding. However, what really made this particular cruise for us were the above and beyond private tours we booked with independent tour groups. The most notable of all was our two day adventure in St. Petersburg touring with Alex's Tours. Words cannot express our pleasure and appreciation for the two days of touring in St. Petersburg through Alex’s Tours. Our guide, Inna, was the very best, being most informative and excited about sharing the history of this very beautiful city. Our driver, Alexander, always managed to get our party of eleven as close as possible to each site visited. Alex’s Tours arranged for everything including tour visas. There were NO waiting in lines, there were no glitches. Alex’s Tours far exceeded our greatest expectations not only in the reasonable price paid, but also in the sites we visited and the time we spent at each. Travelers to any of the Baltic Capitals would most definitely benefit from choosing Alex’s Tours whenever possible. They cannot be beat! Our tour included an overview of the city in our comfortable, air conditioned mini-bus down Nevsky Prospect passing Anichkov Bridge and Palace, the Fontanka and Moika Rivers, Kazan Cathedral, Admiralty, Winter Palace, Palace Square and many other sights. We then visited Pushkin to tour Catherine’s Palace, the Amber Room, and Catherine’s Park stopping for a traditional Russian lunch at a delightful café before continuing on to tour Peterhof and its numerous gardens and beautiful fountains, ending our first day with a tour of the Tsars Bathhouse. After returning to the ship to refresh, Alexander drove us to the Ballet where we enjoyed excellent seats and an outstanding performance of Giselle, before meeting Alexander again to return to the ship. The next day we relaxed on a canal cruise of the “Venice of the North” and toured the Hermitage including the amazing Gold Room. Following another delightful lunch we continued to tour the Peter and Paul Fortress where we visited the Peter and Paul Cathedral. Before returning to the ship we visited the magnificent Savior on the Spilt Blood Cathedral. Everything was included in the price quoted. Read Less

My husband and I loved the itinerary, the ship, the crew, and the people we met on the cruise. It was wonderful being able to overnight in St. Petersburg and Copenhagen. The only negative was going through Passport Control in St. Petersburg but Celebrity had no control over that. It took us 1.5 hours the first day (15 minutes the second day.) We ate all of our meals in the main dining room (Anytime Time dining - prebook your dining time at least several months before the cruise) or Oceanview Cafe and found both quite good. We did Room Service for breakfast on the morning of our excursions and it was always prompt and good quality. The Celebrity singers and dancers were wonderful. Most of the other evening shows were very good (we missed a couple) For excursions, we booked ours through TJ Travel in St. Petersburg, Helsinski, Tallinn, Berlin, and Oslo and were very pleased. We like being in smaller groups (12-15). The only large groups were Helsinki and Berlin (up to 27). We chose the Classic Beverage Package and unlimited Internet package as our perks. You get the most bang for your buck if you drink 2 glasses of wine, bottled water, speciality coffees/tea. Internet was slow sometimes due to number of people using it. Our concierge room was at the back of the ship and very quiet. Only negative is that it's a long walk to the elevators. Also, they have two configurations for the room. One with the bed by the veranda and the other with it in the middle of the room. We prefer the bed in the middle. Makes the room feel more open. There were a number of multi-generational families on the ship and they seemed to be having a great time. You will hear many different languages on it. Most are English speaking (US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand),but we met people from Germany, Belgium, and Italy Captain's Club (Elite and higher) activity and perks are nice. Read Less

I would highly recommend a Royal Caribbean Baltic cruise. We choose this cruise for its itinerary - Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga & esp St Petersburg & it was excellent! If timing permits, I would suggest the 12+ night Baltic cruise which might be a bit more relaxing than having to do excursions every day for 5 days straight to see all the ports of call. Shore excursions: We were fortunate to have found Alla Tours for our day trips to St Petersburg & Riga. Alla Tours was excellent! - great tour guides, small tour groups & great value for money. We had the flexibility to see so many more things than a larger bus sized group would enjoy. Alla Tours took care of all the necessary documentation for St Petersburg. Visa not required. We also did the Royal Caribbean excursion to Tallinn, but suggest that you would be better off walking into the lovely old town on your own. Since we were travelling with our adult daughter, we were in a suite, Rm 1536 on the Serenade of the Seas. The room was comfortable & well laid out, with a queen-sized bed & a fold out couch. We appreciated the curtain which could be pulled out to separate the bed from the living area. While the room had a balcony, it was not often warm enough to use while we were sailing. Excellent room attendant. Great concierge service which comes with a suite. The ship itself was spotless & nicely decorated. Perhaps could have had some more contemporary updates, but it was nice. The food was pretty good with lots of choice & good service in the main dining room. I would recommend the My time dining feature. We also purchased 3 nights at the specialty restaurants & unfortunately found this to be a bit disappointing. Service at the Chops Grill & Giovanni's was quite slow on the nights we were there. Also some of their menu items still had extra charges on top of what we thought we'd purchased. Izumi, the sushi restaurant was great. Entertainment: The "guest" entertainers were excellent - magician, juggler, dancers etc . The ship's dancers & singers were average. I guess their shows were geared towards an older crowd, (ourselves included) but there was too much attention to music of the 70's. 60’s , old Broadway tunes etc etc. Updates required! We had a wonderful time! Read Less

First cruise. We have traveled all over the world but never by ship. This is a great way to see the Baltic countries. Riga and Tallin were especially surprising, beautiful cities. Loved the history of St Petersburg. Only 5 hours in Helsinki but enough to experience it with a self guided walking tour. The food onboard was excellent. We ate in Windjammer and Reflections(included in the price) and very happy with it. No need to pay extra for specialty restaurants. We had a room with a balcony and I would do this again. Large sitting area. Room service was excellent. Lots to do on the ship, never bored. Slept well. We did not use their shore excursions. We used Alla Tours in ST. Petersburg,,,outstanding tour and guide. My only complaint with RC is their website is terrible. You are continually prevented from logging in with 'record lock' errors or 'service unavailable'. Do not wait until the last minute to do things like printing your cruise documentation! Read Less
