Interesting experience - but you have to take the good with the bad
"Sailing on this type of a ship offers a unique cruise experience, and in my opinion has the following pros and cons: PROS: • The Star Flyer has a passenger capacity of 170 max, but we had 155 on our sailing with all rooms occupied but one.Although many days on our sailing were calm and the ship had minimal movement, one day was quite rough - so this kind of a ship may not be a good choice for those who are subject to seasickness...."Read More

Interesting experience - but you have to take the good with the bad

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Star Flyer

Although I'm a veteran cruiser (more than 19 cruises at this point), this was my first experience on a Star Clippers ship. Sailing on this type of a ship offers a unique cruise experience, and in my opinion has the following pros and cons: PROS: • The Star Flyer has a passenger capacity of 170 max, but we had 155 on our sailing with all rooms occupied but one. This low passenger count ...

No problem until I got home

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Star Flyer

This was my 4th Star Clipper cruise and I knew the drill and what to expect. Had inside cabin 218 which is bunk bed and basically a closet but for one person I used the upper bunk as storage. Be aware that here is not a whole lot of open deck space and may have trouble finding a chair especially in the shade. I always enjoy the food on Star Clipper and this was no exception. They do a good job ...

Good cruise but some significant drawbacks

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Star Flyer

The cruise was nice, ship was in great condition , staff was accommodating but the management has some strange ideas about customer service. 3 major problems occurred on our recent cruise which would prevent me from cruising with Star Clippers again. First, there policy of confiscating passengers passports for the duration of the cruise is incredible in this day and age. It makes life easy for ...

Disappointed by our sailing ship experience

Review for a Mediterranean Cruise on Star Flyer

We had looked longingly at Star Clipper ships in port so many times, so finally decided to bite the bullet and book a cruise. We expected a glorious ship ( which it was) and a fabulous experience ( which sadly, it wasn’t) We joined in Piraeus, received a perfunctory welcome, a small glass of juice , and found our way up and down steps to our stern middle deck cabin. We weren’t expecting ...

A different experience

.We chose to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary on Star Flyer. The real let down was our cabin no.301 (300 would be the same). So small, only suitable for one person. Had to get out of bed at the bottom as bed fixed both sides. Bed was comfortable but difficult getting out as there was a metre drop to the floor. Quite dangerous at night! We feel this aspect really was not value for money ...

Fair experience for a first time cruise

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Star Flyer

Having never cruised previously the idea of going on a tall ship was attractive because of the limited number of passengers and multiple ports of interest. My observations were as follows: 1. Sign in Barbados was not well run. As we were initially attempting to board the ship we were told that we could not board until we had to present an identification card. We had not been given this at ...

NO COMPARISON

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Star Flyer

I had a wonderful crossing on the Flyer in Oct. 2015 and booked early to secure a good cabin this year. Overall, there was no comparison with last year. I am not going to moan about things that are outside anyone's control ( poor winds, virus outbreak, no internet ), but my main complaint ( and that of many others ) was that the on- board entertainment was abysmal! I know, from before, that ...

Disappointing

Be in no doubt this is a beautiful ship. This was our third voyage with them this year. We did one last year and we have another to come in 2016. On the other hand we may not book any more. Only vague thought seems to have been given to the ports of call on this trip. The Panama Canal was interesting but it went down hill from there. Two Colombian Islands one of which was little more ...

A Disappointing Experience

This was our fourth cruise via Star Clippers and a disappointment. Our accommodations were fine and the overall service was great, especially in the dining room. The Hotel Manager (Arnold Deutchl) was exceptionally helpful and competent. Unfortunately the Cruise Director (Monica) was only interested in promoting excursions and next year's cruises. She was unwilling or incapable of ...

Star Flyer cruise; not what I expected after reading the brochure.

Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Star Flyer

A cruise on a sailing cruise ship sounds like unbelievable heaven. Sailing on the Mediterranean, to all the beautiful ports on the French Riviera, sounds wonderful right? Boy was I wrong. First off we got rooms, side by side on the top. Our cabins were the top of the choices we could have. They were very cute and roomy. I went with my 2 daughters. Rather than going on and on about the trip in ...
