Cruised from Singapore to Fremantle as part of their round Australia cruise late 2015. Boarding in Singapore a nightmare - seemed very disorganised, lots of pushing and shoving and waiting. Passports taken on boarding. The ship itself is really nice. Well laid out, easy to navigate, beautiful foyer area. Ship very clean. Rooms were nice - had a balcony cabin and it was spacious, with cute towel animals and nightly bed turndowns. Nice bar areas. Gym reasonable but not that big, and reasonably priced beauty parlour. Ship had two pools and 4 spas and a water slide. Has a video arcade for the kids. It does not have a lot of the 'bells and whistles' that some of the newer ships seem to have. Day time entertainment provided by the cruise staff was enjoyable. We particularly liked the trivia and the dancing / exercise classes. Godie, assistant cruise director, was highly entertaining and a real highlight of the cruise for us - went to everything he was involved in and enjoyed his sense of fun. The rest of the cruise staff could not be faulted - they worked really hard with a passenger group that was often difficult to engage and they were always friendly and entertaining. While in port, there was not a lot on offer but good while at sea. Night time shows were very good and some of the best entertainment have seen in a long time. Some great international acts and quality dancers. The bands around the ship were great - nice music, friendly musicians who came and introduced themselves and remembered you the next day. Food for me was not great - ate in the buffet and as a western vegetarian who cant eat spicy food, it was a bit limiting but survived the week. Was definitely more suited to the Asian market. Some of the paid restaurants did not have any vegetarian options. Gala night dinner in Genting Palace was nice but wait staff perhaps needed a bit more training. While the ship probably is mainly suited for the Asian market, and for those that want to gamble, I found enough things to do to entertain myself so that I really enjoyed it. The staff all around the ship were friendly and nothing was too much trouble and the cruise staff made it fun. I will travel on the Virgo again and hope the next trip is as enjoyable as the first one. Read Less

Hi, we went on a vacation on cruise from penang - phuket - karabi. Super star libra is said to be a gambling ship, well more or less that's true, but since it was our first experience we loved it, and we want to go on more cruising after this trip. Let me categorize my experience. Entertainment. They will have a couple of bands playing on the pool deck always, they usually sing all the top hit english songs, as it is a mutual spot to align. Well the others shows that were present when i was aboard the ship was " wonders of asia " " laugh of loud " and an adult show, and funny chang. Wonders of asia was alright, laugh of loud is only for couples, i was a single guy sitting there and they called me up stage and humiliated me. Worst night. But they try to keep you entertained. Movies on the other hand isn't hd or theater like, they have a projector and play all the downloaded copies of movies with huge chinese subs. More of less you can have your personal time happy and fun, if your the one to enjoy other entertainments on the ship and dont like to keep to yourself, this ship could be a little boring. But if your going on cruises the first time, dont think twice go for it. Cabins. We stayed in a junior suit, that means we were yellow card holders. Express check in, and check out. When we first came to the boarding station, trust me there was a que for about half a kilometer, but since we had a suit our cabin assistant took us right in. We were in our cabin before the second person checked in. That was the coolest part of the trip. Junior suit was cramped but was very much enough for three persons. They gave you a free bottle of wine and really took care of you till the last day of the trip. All i can think was junior suit has such a good care, how will executive suit have. I would suggest junior suit was more than enough but if you wanna pull your money and have the lavish experience go right ahead. Food and drinks. People who have been surfing all over internet for this info. Here you go. All around the trip i was drinking beer like water, they'll give you the access card, that is your passport and room key payment everything. I scratched it all the time. My dad had a bottle of jd brought to our cabin, drank other stuff at every other venue and still our total amount of bill was i think 700rm. And this inst big actually it includes dinners at paid restaurants, food ordered in cabin, 48hrs internet, booze and tour for two persons in phuket. Was extremely reasonable. The price of beer and liquor isn't that expensive. Outside in penang it costs around 8rm inside the cruise it costs 10 at the most. Food on the other hand was typical asian food, " no spicy " :'( we are a big fan of spicy food but it was all sweet. Not a lot of varieties in all you can eat buffet but enough to keep you filled all the trip. ( NOTE : I STARTED EATING MORE EVEN AFTER COMING BACK FROM THE CRUISE ) Dining. Bluelagoon - over rated. The other free food buffets are alright, but i never got the chance to eat at four seasons cuz their timing for bf lunch or dinner is very bad for my appetite. Activities. Deck tour - nothing great. Save your money Pool - was a good experience, it was raining and no one was there, i and a chinese kid were swimming .. Was a good experience. Shore excursions. Always book em asap. Better when the ship starts from the port run to the booking area book an excursions, cuz they are so easily over. But in karabi we were not able to book any excursions, but the place was too pretty to avoid going out. We went to the shore with the help of the cruise ships, which are free, and we planned and made our own tour. Which was extremely cheap actually. According to the cruise, it costs 270rm each for all the island tour, but we went to all the places in 200rm totally! ( wasn't added in the bill ) Smuggling 3:) We had a couple of small jw inside our bad, they dint check em, we had a big box of water, they dint check em too. If your a fan of vodka fill it in water bottle and carry it happily around, they wont mind. So smuggling was possible in our case. But your luck may run out.. :P Disembarking. Interesting thing actually. Remember the crew who took osm care of us when we boarded. They were looking to kick us out, us means all passengers asap. The cabin assistant was acting all serious and not caring at the last day, the people around start to act differently. That was a bummer. And i think if your an executive suit holder, you'll be let out of the ship before a person with heart attack. Now i dint see any heart attacks of course but it sure felt that way. For a junior suit holder. All in all, i went to have a relaxing vacation with booze and sea all around me. Got it. Cheap booze, good cabins, not too bad food. And this is was my first experience. I press the fact of me going for the first time because it changes a lot. This ship was huge to me at first, but when we were parked near royal caribbean, man we felt like the pilot boat. All over, had a good vacation. Hope it helps. :) Read Less

We booked this cruise on a package that was too good to refuse. There were six of us altogether, most of whom had cruised before but not on the Virgo. Our cruise was 5 nights, stopping at Redang, Koh Samui and Bangkok. We had booked 3 Balcony class cabins and received $400 food and beverage credit per cabin as part of the package. This was very handy as we ended up not paying anything for drinks or meals for the entire cruise. We read a few reviews before we left and were warned by our travel agent about how some of the other nationalities behave in board. The reviews are right; some people are very pushy (especially when getting on/off tender boats), can be rude and at the buffet you feel like its feeding time at the zoo. It helps to know this may happen before you go and prepare yourself for it. However, we found that the majority of people on board were very nice, friendly and polite. The ship itself is amazing. It's modern but with a distinct Asian theme. The staff are fabulous; incredibly friendly, accommodating and always smiling. They make you feel welcome straight away. We had no problems at all during the trip, everything was organised extremely well by the staff. The cabins are very nice. We had an ocean view stateroom with balcony. It was large enough for the two of us. Beds are quite hard and pillows very thin but that's my only complaint. The balcony had a little table and 2 chairs which we used often. We also had a big flat screen tv (limited channels), mini bar fridge, tea/coffee facilities, ice box, safe, mini couch and iron. The bathroom is small (only fit one person at a time) but included hair dryer. The food was fantastic. The Bella Vista restaurant (a la carte) is the best place for the free meals. We didn't bother with the buffet once we ate at Bella Vista! The Palazzo Italian restaurant (additional charge) served us one of the best meals I have ever had. I thoroughly recommend it, the extra charge is worth it and it isn't that expensive compared to Australian prices. The chef also came out to meet us which was a nice touch. The Bellini bar was our favourite place on board. It had a relaxed atmosphere, staff were friendly and the nightly entertainment (solo and trio singers) were great. The Observatory was also a good place for a drink, it's right at the front of the ship so you get an amazing view, especially when coming in or out of port. There is so much to do on board that I have only mentioned a few of my favourites. If you can get this cruise on a special package including a balcony room and f&b credit I thoroughly recommend it. Just be prepared that this isn't a 'western' ship and therefore some of the etiquette of other passengers is not what you would expect. Read Less

First of all, sorry for being late in writing this review. I will not give a review of how was the SSV, it is wonderful..check the star cruise website. Let me share with you my first ever cruise experience. Route:3N Singapore-Penang-Phuket-Singapore cruise on Super Star Virgo (SSV). Cruise style: Family. I went with my wife and my 6 year old son. I am not a drinker nor a gambler. So guys, if you are looking for any feedback on these, sorry. Cabin: Since this was my first ever cruise, I decided to go for the a better cabin and so I chose BA type cabin on deck 11. I chose deck 11 to get nice sea view and also because it's quit. I chose cabin location such that there is no disturbance from the deck above or below. Embarkation: Boarding procedure was smooth, priority given to us since we were balcony class. SSV: -We went on board to the Grand Piazza and were mesmerised with the ambiance - many people of different nationalities, mostly Chinese, free welcome cocktails and mock tails. Staff kept wandering around us to guide us and for taking our bookings for the various paid shows and activities. -We had done some homework on the shore excursions offered (as on website), so we went straightaway to book the shore excursions of our choice before the bookings got full. -We easily managed to find our cabin. After seeing the cabin, we were really happy with our choice. Leaflets of schedule of activities (star navigator) giving all the information of the various programs, timings and locations, and shore excursions were already kept on our bed. We just had to follow this navigator for our choice of programs. So simple! There were plenty of events and activities to keep ourselves busy. In fact we could not get enough time to cover every corner of the ship. -We went for orientation tour of the ship. Very beautiful ship...u can visit the star cruises website to know more about various facilities on board. -I was particularly impressed with the Lido theatre. It was a huge theatre with all the hi-tech sound and lighting effects!. However, sitting arrangement was on first-cum-first basis except for Admiral class guests who had separate sitting arrangements. -My family had a nice leisure time in the Wet n Wild kids' pool and the jacuzzi. -Child care centre has enough to keep the kids busy, it was payable though. -There is also a clinic on board and we used this facility as my wife got sick. -The ship is so stable that we did not even feel that we are on the ship in the middle of the sea. We only felt some vibrations at night due to engines running. Shows: -We saw a few shows (Magic show, Spotlight, Somewhere in Time, Nikita, etc) at the Lido and I was impressed with all of them. I dropped my kid at the Child care centre when we went to watch late night shows. Food and beverages: -We are pure vegetarians, so we had only two choices - the Mediterranean Buffet and the Taj. We mostly dined at the Mediterranean where there was a separate section for vegetarians. The food was quite good. Moreover, we had got a credit limit of 300 SGD per cabin which can be used at the restaurants or for buying eatables or alcoholic drinks. We used or credit mostly for buying mock tails, juices, ice-creams and snacks. Shore excursions: -We went for the city tour on Penang island. Most of it was boring except visit to Thai Buddhist temple and the Khoo dynasty temple. -Visit to Phuket was a memorable experience as we took on the sea for sea canoeing adventure. We were concerned about my 6 year old as he accompanied us for such an adventure we had never done in our life. But in fact he was the one who enjoyed the most. Overall: Our first cruise experience was really great. My family and I would love to go back on board for more fun. I will try to post some photos soon. Read Less

The cruise departs Penang calling at Krabi and Phuket and then returns to Penang. We took a junior suite for the trip and although not the cheapest option you get what you pay for and in this case it was first class service throughout the trip. From getting on board to departing everything was so well organised that things just happened! The staff are all so incredibly attentive and friendly, the facilities although old are still of a very high order. Dress code especially for the Gala Dinner night can be a bit of a challenge but long sleeved shirt, tie, slacks are more than acceptable for men and something elegant for ladies.shore excursions are available but we did our own thing based on the information and recommendations from the crew and information handouts you get each day giving you what is on offer for the next 24 hours. An incredibly run operations that is smooth and effective putting the passenger's requirements to the fore. the downside- finding enough information to make an informed choice if you live outside Asia but well worth persevering. It was a terrible vacation experience for us. Never ever had such a vacation that not only I don't enjoyed even wished I can go home immediately. First, when we board in to the cruise, greeted with many crew staffs that couldn't speak proper English. We had difficulty understanding them while asking them to show us direction of our cabin. Once we get in to our cabin, it was not well maintained. After sleeping 2 nights on the bed, me n my son had rashes all over our body, we booked for a 3 pax cabin, only 2 shower towels were given, and only 2 blankets in room. Called up room service for all items I need. It took more than 1 hour for them to deliver to my cabin. I even have to go to the reception to "demand" what I need. Cabin rooms wall is pretty thin, we could even hear the entire conversation from the next door!!!!! It was the 1st time in cruise, so we were kind of lost in getting around. Asked cabin staffs for direction. They told us, they also don't know!!!!! OMG!!!!! Food selection also sucks!!!! Went to the Chinese restaurant for breakfast dim sum, the food not even fresh. No much selections, tried out all the other restaurants that do not need to pay, food really cannot make it. Really disappointed!!!! Not much activity for kids as they advertised. You see many old folks in cruise who are only keen in the casino. I've been to Clubmed, when we paid for e package everything is literally inclusive. But not in star cruise. Many things you need to pay and the quality of service is worst than hotel that i visited. Would encourage ppl with kids not to choose star cruise as an option for vacation. My son totally hated it n same for us too. Read Less

hi....its our first time to try cruising thats why i chose the 3 days 2 nights cruise to pork klang in malaysia coming from singapore. I read that there will be long lines checking in but i didn't expect it to be that long....i think their system is not good that's why the lines are that long... Also there were a lot of Indians who were really rude...they kept on pushing us and cutting the line.... :( Once inside the ship it was good...we were given welcome drinks and champagne in the lobby....there were a lot of Filipino crew so it made our stay more pleasant. The rooms were ok although they look old already.... The restaurants especially the mediterrenean buffet was ok...there were also plenty of indians who kept on cutting the line to the buffet....even the children were cutting the lines and pushing us.... We liked Bella Vista more...the people are more quiet and decent.... Since it was our first time we were worried that we would feel the waves but on the contrary it was ok.... We liked the show at Lido....we also liked the souvenir photos they took of us. Overall it was a pleasant cruise....we just didn't like the crowd. Read Less

We booked a balcony class cabin through the cruise line's website and it was clearly advertised through our credit card that we would get $200 on-board credit. When we checked in, we were only given $100 credit. Since we still in port, we immediately called our credit card company and also went to the reception desk to clarify. All they could tell us was that "your booking only has $100 credit".Ou cruise documents and signs all over the embarkation hall informed us that w had to check our luggage in as it exceeded the stipulated size. However, the baggage check in counter NEVER opened. None of the staff managing the queue seemed to be aware of this even while they were standing in full view of the counter with the lights off and no one there. They kept passing the buck by telling us to ask the next person in the check in process. Finally at the check in counter we asked the staff that did the actual check in and handed us our passes, informing him that the baggage check in was STILL closed (it was about 1/2 hour before boarding time by then) and what could we do with our bag? He said "Check it in at the baggage counter there". We pointed out to him that there was no one there - this was within his line of vision! Finally we just lugged our suitcase up the gangway ourselves. Eventually we surmised that most of the people on this cruise were here to gamble at the casino and didn't need any clothes - most people just had a little sports bag. They were letting in people to the fine dining restaurant dressed in t-shirts an shorts. The swimming pool was mostly empty and we never had a problem getting a whole jacuzzi to ourselves. On the first night, we attended an event at the Galaxy of the Stars called "Choco Madness Night". It was billed as "come for an evening filled with chocolate, dancing and fun". We went for it only because we are chocolate lovers. When we sat down, the wait staff even told us not to bother to order any food with our drinks as there would be chocolate given out later. We sat through cigarette smoke filled discomfort and inane jokes and high school style dancing still waiting for our chocolate....it never materialised.Breakfast in the buffet restaurant is terrible especially the savoury selections (leather like bacon). The Magic show was a little tedious and repetitive. We enjoyed the zumba lessons and the gym.The staff were helpful and friendly, mostly Filippino and mainland Chinese but with much better English than usual. Read Less

We had never been on a cruise before. And the only reason we went on this one is because of a business conference having to relocate due to the tensions that happened a few months ago in Bangkok. We went with open minds interested to see what we thought of cruising, and whether it would be our kind of thing. We were impressed with how smoothly up to 2000 people were checked on to the ship. There were no delays, not sure whether it was because we were balcony class. We found our cabin to be fairly compact, thank goodness it did have a balcony it was nice to be able to open the door for some hot fresh air. The bed was comfortable to sleep in, though the vibrating from the engines was interesting along with the drone that goes with them. Sailing was smooth though, only the slightest of swells one day. We had all of our meals in the Bella Vista restaurant. Breakfasts were good a nice selection, lunch was a three course affair (usually a sandwich at home)and dinner was three courses as well. Service staff in this restaurant were on a whole very good. I have no idea how some guests get through six meals a day, we certainly couldn't entertain the idea. As we were there with a conference group, we had pre-planned cocktail evening, business sessions etc... to attend, so this kept our time on board fairly busy. Our two ports of call were Phuket and Langkawi and then back to Singapore so we had a total of only three nights on the ship. Final disembarkation in Singapore was once again smooth going, though baggage claim was a zoo, it didn't take long to retrieve the bags. Well as I said at the beginning of this we were curious to know if cruising was for us. The answer is no, it was nice to get away but we are used to having space and being able to get away from the hustle and bustle when we choose and this was more of a challenge on a ship. We have also been very spoilt over the years and are used to staying in 5 star accommodation and I'm afraid the cabins on this ship are not 5 star and really are beginning to look tired and in need of refurbishing. STAR CRUISES 25TH APRIL - 30TH APRIL 10 SINGAPORE - SINGAPORE Arrived in Singapore from Australia at 7.20pm Saturday evening, transfer to Royal Plaza on Scotts. Transfer next day- Sunday at midday to the cruise terminal. Super Star Virgo is a beautiful majestic looking ship. Arrived at cruise terminal at 12.35pm huge line of people of mainly, Asians, Indians & Chinese. Probably only 70 or so Australians were on board. Boarded between 1.30-2.00pm according to the embarkation photos We were in Balcony Cabin 10136 Starboard Aft, it is a nice position and is in immaculate condition like the rest of the ship. There was ample cupboard space, with little dressing table, safe, slimline tv, small table and chair, coffee table and sofa bed plus our double bed configuration. There is no fridge in the cabins, only an ice bucket which we have requested to be filled daily. The balcony isn't very big but we found it quite comfortable for two with the chairs and drinks table. All in all we were pleasantly surprised at the lovely dEcor and feel of the ship overall. Being Balcony Class we headed down to Deck 7 for champagne prior to embarkation. We headed straight for the couple that looked like they may be from Oz. Yes, they were from Newcastle. Not long after that the Ozzie group grew to 14 all of whom shared a joke or two and a good time was had by all. We headed to the Meditteranean Buffet for dinner which has a good selection of cold meats, salads, Indian, fruit and desserts. The drink waiters gave us attention beyond reproach they were just awesome. We awoke to the ships horn around 1.00am and we could see a lot of lights looming closer, it turned out that we were docking unexpectadly in Port Klang as there was a medical emergency on board. This in turn changed our itinerary Monday we were heading for Langkawi instead of Phuket. After breakfast again at the Meditteranean Buffet we eagerly awaited our arrival at Langkawi. We arrived for our shore tour which was a 4 hr tour going to Underwater World, The Brown Eagle and Kuai Town. We didn't go into Underwater World as the fare wasn't included in the tour, we preferred to have a look at the street markets. Bought some Billabong shorts and kids clothes for the grandkids. The Brown Eagle is a very large structure well worth a few photos as Langkawi means Brown Eagle. Kuai Town is not the greatest although does have some duty free shops but I wouldn't bother getting off the ship if I were to visit here again, not at all impressive. Tuesday marked the arrival to Phuket Thailand. We again with our new found Newcastle friends Greg & Lyn decided to try Bella Vista for breakfast. An al a carte menu so I decided on the mushroom omelette with chicken sausages and baked beans to be followed by a banana pancake with maple syrup. There is a good selection of cereals, juices and pastries which you can help yourself . Coffee and Tea is served by the attentive staff. As the shore tours were rescheduled to leave the port at 7am we opted to take a taxi later in the day. We got a great taxi driver who took us on a tour of Phuket. The Pearl & Jewellery Shop is a must see absolutely beautiful pearls, birthstones and diamonds all at quite reasonable prices when converted to $AUD. I bought a lovely little ruby for my ring and it was $50 AUD and they also offered free fitting but I was unable to take up this offer as we were leaving Phuket in a couple of hours and they offer next day pick up. After a tour of the beaches of Kata & Karon and a visit to Club Med to buy a shirt for a friend who stayed on board. It was a leisurely drive back to port to have a look at the many stalls that were set up along the port. Again bought some clothes at excellent prices. Back on board for a rest before getting ready for Gala Night. There were free canapEs and champagne for Balcony class on deck 7 prior to a set menu dinner at Bella Vista more western style dining. I had a tasty pea and mushroom soup followed by beef Wellington and veges and dessert was a yummy bomb alaska. There were many photos taken and the Captain and Crew were available for photos as well as live music, fashion parade by the staff it was a very enjoyable evening that saw us finally in bed at 2.00am. Wednesday we arrived back in Singapore for passengers doing the 3 nt cruise to disembark and the new passengers doing the 2nt cruise to embark. We arrived at Port around 3.45pm and should depart at 6.30pm Had a quiet day today after a very late night last night. Slept in and skipped breakfast,, managed lunch again at Bella Vista enjoyed sliced duck breast, lamb shank with mashed potatoes and veges and a delicious walnut cheesecake with orange sauce. Dinner we went to the Taverna for a chicken Hawaiian burger w/fries and 5 spicy chicken wings with sweet chilli sauce and mocktails were 2 for $12 SGP and they are sooo yummy. Rasputin Show was on at 9.45pm so we went and thoroughly enjoyed the show which was full of dancers, acrobats and high wire acts. Thursday arrived at Pulau Redang which is renowned for diving and snorkelling. Went again to Bella Vista for another tasty breakfast of veal sausages, baked beans, toast, Australian honey and coffee. Didn't go to shore today but took advantage of the pool and swim spas. Lunch was at the Mediterranean Buffet which always has a great selection of salads, hot dishes and desserts. Played bingo but didn't win anything. Managed to finally get to afternoon tea which was a treat of cakes, biscuits, tea & coffee. Dinner was at the Taverna cafe which was a charge cafe. We had spicy chicken wings with a supreme pizza and two Tiger Beers which were on special , 3 for SGP$21. After dinner we decided to watch the live bands at the Bellini Bar had quite a few drinks and staggered back to the cabin just after 1.00am. Friday came around all too quickly and after the bags were packed we headed to breakfast for the usual at Bella Vista. We popped our bags in the hallway and as we had to vacate the cabin by 1.00pm we headed for lunch at the Meditteranean Buffet. To collect our passports we then headed to Deck 12 Galaxy of the Stars we got them back around 2.00pm then we had to go down to Deck 6 the Pavillion where we were taken down to ding off the ship for the last time, so sad! We had a truly memorable time on the Virgo and would highly recommend Star Cruises for anyone looking for a wonderful cruise, great hospitality and food. We collected our luggage and met our driver and once again headed for our two night stay at Royal Plaza on Scotts with buffet breakfast included. Saturday we had a great time shopping at the Bugis Markets and trying our luck at the new Santosa Casino which also has lovely little eateries inside the Casino itself. Our driver will pick us up tomorrow at 6.00pm for our transfer to Changi Airport for our 9.30pm Qantas flight home to Brisbane. It is time to come back to earth with a thud and back to work but cant wait for our next cruise which is in January 2011 with Rhapsody of the Seas! Read Less
