Interesting experience - but you have to take the good with the bad

Although I'm a veteran cruiser (more than 19 cruises at this point), this was my first experience on a Star Clippers ship. Sailing on this type of a ship offers a unique cruise experience, and in my opinion has the following pros and cons: PROS: • The Star Flyer has a passenger capacity of 170 max, but we had 155 on our sailing with all rooms occupied but one. This low passenger count ...

This was my 4th Star Clipper cruise and I knew the drill and what to expect. Had inside cabin 218 which is bunk bed and basically a closet but for one person I used the upper bunk as storage. Be aware that here is not a whole lot of open deck space and may have trouble finding a chair especially in the shade. I always enjoy the food on Star Clipper and this was no exception. They do a good job ...

Good cruise but some significant drawbacks

The cruise was nice, ship was in great condition , staff was accommodating but the management has some strange ideas about customer service. 3 major problems occurred on our recent cruise which would prevent me from cruising with Star Clippers again. First, there policy of confiscating passengers passports for the duration of the cruise is incredible in this day and age. It makes life easy for ...

Not for everyone

Some will love this unique sailing ship experience. For us it was interesting and had its good moments with some great scenery in the Andaman Sea, but was spoiled by a very noisy cabin (due to the ship's generator running 24/7), and an overall lack of personal space. We will not repeat the experience, as we prefer a private balcony cabin and an evening buffet meal option. The ship never ...

Disappointed by our sailing ship experience

We had looked longingly at Star Clipper ships in port so many times, so finally decided to bite the bullet and book a cruise. We expected a glorious ship ( which it was) and a fabulous experience ( which sadly, it wasn’t) We joined in Piraeus, received a perfunctory welcome, a small glass of juice , and found our way up and down steps to our stern middle deck cabin. We weren’t expecting ...

A different experience

.We chose to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary on Star Flyer. The real let down was our cabin no.301 (300 would be the same). So small, only suitable for one person. Had to get out of bed at the bottom as bed fixed both sides. Bed was comfortable but difficult getting out as there was a metre drop to the floor. Quite dangerous at night! We feel this aspect really was not value for money ...

Fair experience for a first time cruise

Having never cruised previously the idea of going on a tall ship was attractive because of the limited number of passengers and multiple ports of interest. My observations were as follows: 1. Sign in Barbados was not well run. As we were initially attempting to board the ship we were told that we could not board until we had to present an identification card. We had not been given this at ...

Having been before on the Star Clipper we liked the format and knew what to expect - good quality cabin, great choice of food and plenty of it. Most of all that great feeling as the sails are hoisted to the stirring sound of Vangelis' Conquest of Paradise. Oh dear, seems the owner has instructed that the stirring music be relegated to background music thus destroying the magic that so many ...

NO COMPARISON

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Star Flyer

I had a wonderful crossing on the Flyer in Oct. 2015 and booked early to secure a good cabin this year. Overall, there was no comparison with last year. I am not going to moan about things that are outside anyone's control ( poor winds, virus outbreak, no internet ), but my main complaint ( and that of many others ) was that the on- board entertainment was abysmal! I know, from before, that ...

This was our 4th cruise on Star Clipper so we knew what to expect. This one disappointed us, however. Pros: Food was good. Breakfast Buffett, Lunch Buffett, Dinner service. Cabin was clean. Ship was in great shape. The crew talent show was more fun and varied than usual. Cons: The wait staff and room stewards did not clearly understand English and spoke it with such accents at a such ...
