Poorly planned (no planning at all) shore excursions

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Royal Clipper

So the “sail always” were nice especially because this is a full rigged clipper ship, rigging took quite awhile and the amount of canvass was impressive. After a few departures this got kind of old and as far as I could determine the ship mostly relied on the engines for propulsion as is the case with other “sailing ships”, it’s mostly for the visual effects. The traditional wood and fittings ...

Reviews of this ship are accurate but the excursion manager was impossible to deal with

Choose this cruise because I really like small ships and I was very interested in the sailing etc. As others have described the “raising of the sails” is very dramatic and fun to watch for the first 2 or 3 times. Crew is obviously focused on the care and maintenance of the sails etc. but as far as I could tell except for the day when we sailed with a sister ship the sails were just ...

A small ship cruise at an attractive price, but with limitations

Star Clippers has many repeat customers including ourselves. That said, there are still many things that they could easily fix that would much improve the passenger experience. Boarding was a chaotic event. We arrived about an hour before boarding time (4 PM), and saw empty tables in the terminal and people waiting on the few seats. There was a pile of luggage blocking about half of the ...

Having never cruised previously the idea of going on a tall ship was attractive because of the limited number of passengers and multiple ports of interest. My observations were as follows: 1. Sign in Barbados was not well run. As we were initially attempting to board the ship we were told that we could not board until we had to present an identification card. We had not been given this at ...

The Clipper experience was great but has flaws

It was a different way to cruise the Caribbean. Just the sight of all the sails flying above the ship peaked our interest in going on this unique type of vessel. We had cruised about 15 times prior on the typical cruise ships (Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess) and not-so-typical types of ships (Delta Queen river boat on the Mississippi, river boat for 7 nights on the Amazon, another on the ...

Star Clipper--Barbados to Panama Canal, 15 January 2011—14 Days Overall, we had a very good trip. However, we were a little disappointed with the "on board" experience compared to our 5 previous Star Clipper voyages. I identified the major issues below, and just took the smaller issues with a grain of salt. It is all part of the adventure. We made some great friends and laughed ourselves silly. ...
