This is a great intimate soft adventure but with all the luxuries. We shared the experience with 144 other passengers but you never felt crowded. Every sail away the sails were raised along with emotions. Dining was very good with a six course meal should you choose with full waiter service. Drinks were well priced with house drinks at 3.5 Euro along with an excellent wine list from house bottles through to Cristal champagne. Something for every budget. The breakfasts and lunches were buffet style with so much to choose from. Tenders to shore in most ports where other ships could not go including deserted beaches. The sports team boys provided many activities from sailing to water skiing all included. By Day two all the staff knew your name. Music by Jerby was excellent, from piano to guitar to late night dancing, including a fun passenger and crew party night. Cruise Director Irina was great fun (Ciao Ciao) and Edwin a fantastic Bar Manager/Sommelier. If you want something different from a mega cruiseliner this is it. The ship is very stable and while there is a slight rumble from the generators you get used to it. Passengers were mostly well travelled in the forty plus bracket. Many were repeat customers which says something. There were no kids on our voyage. Very inclusive and welcoming to all including our LGBT group of six. As the Captain said, “you can take a hundred photos, but it is what you take home in your hearts that matters!”. Highly recommended. Read Less

The staff on this ship were excellent, great service and friendly / food was very good. The ship is fascinating to sail on especially when they raise the sails, truly a sight to watch. As it is not a large cruise ship you are not crowded with too many people. Our cabin was small but comfortable. The only downside, a serious safety concern is getting off/on the gangplank when getting into/out of the tenders. This platform is very unstable and rickety thus unsafe as it moves up and down and although the staff help you in/out during our time several people fell, luckily landing inside the tender; if you fell in between the tender and the platform you would be killed. Other ships are using a much more stable and secured platform which is much safer. When I brought this matter to the attention of one of the board members/owner whom was sailing with his family he appeared not to care stating "there is nothing we can do". I believe a simple modification to secure this platform would make tendering much safer for all passengers and crew. We did enjoy the cruise and may sail again with this company. Read Less

Chose this cruise because we wanted a proper sailing adventure and did not want a large floating hotel, - and It was just fabulous ! We enjoyed every single minute of this voyage. Yes - the cabins are quite "cosy" , but they have everything you need. The crew were all very friendly and professional. The food on board was superb, and we met some lovely people from all over the world. Some of the trips were a bit disappointing, eg: Malacca is a place I wouldn't rush back to, and the Similian islands were more crowded than Maya bay, but life on board ship was always the highlight. Prices on board were very reasonable -especially when compared to Singapore ! Always felt very safe when leaving the ship by tender, but you do need to be fairly fit as there are a lot of stairways involved on a cruise like this. To sum up - loved it, loved it, loved it ! Can't wait for the next one - probably in the Med. Read Less

The sailing adventure through Thailand was excellent. The food was great! You have 4 choices for your entree for dinner. The wine selections are also excellent. The crew is nice and helpful. Water sports are available at most port stops. The itinerary was great - not touristy! The passengers were 95% Europeans, mostly Brits and Germans. Everyone was a well traveled adult - average age 65. No kids and everyone seemed happy about that. The cruise was comfortable, beautiful, quiet, pleasant. Not for under age 45, in my opinion and definately not for kids - not kid activities and the passengers will be unhappy if you drag your loud kids along and the kids will get bored. This is for adults who love to travel and love the sea and want an adult, quite refined travel experience. I will travel the Star Ship again and again! An adult only - age 45 on up cruise - and so wonderful and comfortable! Recommended for people who love to travel and love the sea and who are at least 45 years of age - average age is 65. Read Less

I have always been a sailing freak but advancing age has prevented me from sailing the Greek Islands myself. This trip was pure indulgence for me. On arrival before embarkation the cruise line organised a pickup from our hotel. It was on time even calling the hotel to inform us of its immediate arrival. Embarkation was painless, thorough and subject to the normal security screening. On boarding we were met by the Captain and some of his officers. Our room (504) was clean tidy and well appointed. The food during the trip was excellent. I now eat olives with my cooked breakfast that includes feta cheese. Cabin service was outstanding. Both English and German were spoken fluently by the cruise director and most of the crew. The entertainment was home grown but wonderful despite not being a Broadway production. My compliments to Delicia and Joseph for the entertainment. The shore expeditions ranged from ordinary (2) to excellent (the rest). Ordinary because the others were so good that good became ordinary. If Rhodes had beaches like Australia I would have to live there. Despite this trip being my indulgence my wife reckons this is one of the best holidays we have had. I can only second her opinion. Great crew, great staff, great food and a great ship. Thank you Captain Yuri (Not Russian) Read Less

I wasn't sure if I would be any good on a sailing ship but wanted to see the smaller island in the Virgin Islands...I was thrilled by how well appointed Star Clipper is....It's a newish ship built in a style one used to see in films....Wonderful amenities when it came to dining, cocktail hours, two pools, comfortable cabins was a surprise yet basic. The variety and quality of food was amazing partly because unlike mega ships the Clipper food is cooked fresh for each meal, Whole Turkey, Lobster, Suckling Pig, Aso Buco, fresh veg and amazing deserts. Wine was amazingling cheap by comparison. The crew quickly became more good friends than crew and because it only holds 180 you get to meet so many others in the open seating plan. Everyday a different island, excersions or just fabulous beach days...mostly taken ashore by tender and there was a Sport crew who took all the toys ashore for you to play with. Casual all day and evenings were less formal but guys should wear long pants and short sleeve shirt or similar but some ladies did it all and looked fabulous....that's what its about....you do your thing and everybody loves it. There internet...can you beleive $6. an hour. Wine starts at $15. and a good bottle might be $35. Endless cocktail choices expertly made at the Tropical Bar on the open deck or in the Piano Bar and what a talented guy on the synthasizer. This is the first of more than 30 cruises where I felt posessive about the ship and didn't want to leave the crew and all...its great to know I can go back....I'm not a kid but nobody cared that it took me a bit longer on the stairs. I must add...we had two wonderful little girls on the ship...so sweet and sadly we mostly thought it was not a ship for children....there's nothing for them to do. Kids need to run, jump, twirl, hop, kick, spin and bounce all over so when the ship is doing the same thing and thee are so many stairs and obsticals we feared something would happen and finally one of the little girls when dashing off along and went head first down the stairs and we had to turn the ship around and rush her to hospital in St. Kitts. She was kept in but magically re-appeared the last night to all our applause. We were returned to St. Martin where we began, and our luggage was already ashore and waiting for us...Sad to say good-by...so I said..."I'll be back". Next time I expect to see the ghosts of Bette Davis and Peter Lorrie sipping a cocktail on deck ... it just that sort of great experience. Read Less

If you have any understanding of sailing you will love this. Lots of passengers didn't know anything about sailing but still loved it because of the small number of passengers, delightful crew, fab service, comfortable cabins, air con, fantastic food, and every extra thought of. Hairdryer - tick, cups of tea of coffee anytime and you can trot back to your cabin with a brew in the mornings, charging points - tick, reliable shower - tick, cool air conditioning below deck - tick, tiny pools but great to just get cool when sunbathing, plenty of sun loungers. Loads of food - beautifully presented and served and you did not have to sit with any particular person - so people tended to go down in groups or with a couple of people they met on the way down and sat together. If not, the staff allocated you to a suitable table. Excitement every time the sails went up and I even got to steer. Yesss! Wish they'd given us more beach outings and had a working windsurfer or two! Only one SUP and one dinghy and couple of canoes. We were on a week that was block booked - so not sure if we had the same shore visits as most Eastern Med cruises on the star clipper. Had been on a cruise with Norwegian line - hated it. This one was something else! With a small number of passengers you are on nodding terms with everyone within a couple of days and begin to pal up with like-minded people and sit together for some meals. And the whole sailing thing - to die for! Drinks are sensible prices too. Read Less
