This was our 2nd cruise with Viking. Our 1st trip was great, however the Waterways of the Tsars was a trip we want soon forget. We just returned from Waterways of the Tzars with Viking and although the trip was enjoyable there were several problems with the cruise. The boats in Russia are not nearly as nice as the Longships Vikings uses in Europe. They need to be updated and reconfigured. Arrived at St Petersburg one day early, took a cab to the hotel we booked online, then took a cab to the boat dock the next day. Saint Petersburg to Moscow - 6 night cruise then 3 nights in outstanding hotels in each of the two big cities. We travelled GOLD class and were delighted with the mix between organized and free time.

Regardless of which direction the ship was sailing, the scheduling of the ports of call was outstanding. The inclusion of the Russian history coordinated with the ports of call and the individual sites being visited added to the quality of the tours in ways that are just now becoming clear to us.
