I chose this cruise for a South Pacific holiday break and to experience a new port for me SavuSavu, Australian Survivor filming Island. It was a 14 day experience. This was also recommended as a shining, new, modern Princess ship (built 2017), with the new Sea Walk. This was different yes but it does not make up for a decent promenade deck or front and rear views on a lower deck out of sun or wind. For Sailaway had to be with the smokers or peer through the life boats as in Port of Suva to listen to the Police Band. While it did have many positives being a local departure from Sydney for me, and the on board currency in Australian Dollars is a blessing when the US dollar keeps dropping, I also appreciate there are no gratuities to add to the fare ( unless you personally reward for good service), I was a little underwhelmed in this cruise. I do feel some Princess standards have dropped. I much enjoyed being able to use the Princess @ Sea App, on your personal phone or Ipad/tablet device, there were things however that left me disappointed. Positives: All Princess @ Sea capabilities. Able to book Shore Excursions, read daily Patter on your device, highlight your planner events you want to visit, access all ship information on your device. Keeps you updated with weather, time of arrival/departure etc. Port information, shore excursions. Order your breakfast . Can preview your photos, absolutely everything. The best advance and very welcome. The cruise is paid for in Australian dollars and no extra tipping is required except for excellent or exceptional service to reward your favourite crew. The Hollywood Pool and Spa , Exclusive for Adults only, with indoor pool and covered, skylight roof. Many lounges, exclusive private cabanas out of the weather, a TV . Excellent size and place for reading and solitude, bar access as well. Hoist for disabled. Lovely lounge rooms and decor. The Piazza Atrium area great, but could also be bigger for main events when passengers crowding to see, not enough seats. Standing only. Heaps of sun loungers, good concerts on the screen on deck, blankets for movies too and popcorn (small). Enjoyed craft activities...never take this away. It is a great alternative to Trivia but in saying that the ones on this cruise were fun and much effort and planning went into them. They were a cruise team highlight and worth attending. Tho many things would clash and not always able to get to them as much as I would have liked. Princess Live room for overflow concert performances was a positive idea and for comedy or lectures , however much better to have access to the actual Princess Theatre in the first place to feel the show Live and in person. Theatre seats do not have a table for drinks however and are quite cosy and a close, bucket, seating. Comfortable lounges and decor tasteful. Many lifts and wide areas to stand and wait. Fantastic gym facilities, and adult only areas. Lovely Fountain show but not advertised enough. I doubt everyone saw it. I only chanced upon it one night. Movie selection in your room was nice as well, latest ones and older movies. Complimentary in room service and light meals could be ordered. All crew worked hard and provided a friendly holiday, always trying to please. The International Cafe in Piazza area near Atrium served nice toasted sandwiches, meringue GF desserts, cakes and cookies, and a pie or quiche offering. This was complimentary to go with purchased coffee or for passengers just desiring a light snack. Negatives: Theatre not really big enough to accommodate everyone for each show. Cruise Planner had 2nd show at 9.45 pm, rather late or had early shows on a Port day 6pm and 715 or 730pm..... could not understand this. How to fit dinner around this when it can take too long to be served or you could end up eating quite late or miss dinner totally. This could occur even with anytime dining. Main Dining menu was not really great with variety choices. On offer were too many meals that were same or similar with just different vegetables or accompaniments. Meat , fish , chicken, and an overload of seafood. Desserts quite dull as well. Tea and coffee offered at completion not hot and meals also did not keep hot either even when close to kitchen. Buffet was serving similar to main dining but at least it was hotter and could just stick to fruit , or bread. Plenty of food provided but not choices I enjoyed however. Tendering could be a long process in Island ports. The entertainment on this cruise was a let down due to the fact I had seen many of the acts in the first and second week before. The Aussie comedian, McCool, AGoT was a breath of fresh air, as too much violin and classical type performers were offered. Much effort by those people but not to my liking and became too much the same style of entertainment. More variety choices for all age groups needed. Small internet room and library however there were many games to loan and a selection of many used books to read and peruse for interest. I enjoy seeing some of the dancers at the end of a show...did this occur??? Photography prices seem quite expensive. Many printing offers on metal boards, mugs, coasters etc are a lovely alternative souvenir to take home. No promenade deck to walk around, also no front access or rear access to feel the ocean around you and enjoy that at sea benefit, To Escape Completely and Come Back New. I hope Princess does not maintain this cut back feeling, and still embrace moving forward but not just with new ships but to still enhance passenger fun and friendly enjoyment all around including the main dining experience and buffet....not just to push extra cost dining. We found the embarkation to be okay but it didn't run as smoothly as Sydney. ( our hometown). The ship Aria we found to be very small compared to other cruise ships we have been on. These are the points we enjoyed about the boat. * Small & intimate - easy to get around. * Pools were never crowded so easy to get a deckchair . Deck 10 pool was empty most of the time so great for relaxing. We just didn't like the chairs as very uncomfortable. * Bars all had a nice ambience especially the Blue Room. * Limited children onboard. Dining - the best All we can say is thank goodness for Salt Grill Restaurant as we dined there most evenings . The food & service were outstanding for a cruise ship. We also loved the Chef's table - excellent yummy degustation with interesting people. So, so - restaurants. Dragonlady - food was cold & horrible... the worst restaurant on the ship. The Waterfront - okay food but the menu didn't change which made it boring. Ambience & atmosphere, service was excellent. Angelo's - okay but nothing to write about. Just average. The Pantry - Not enough seats - horrible dining experience. We felt like we were living in a boarding school. However; we did like the salad bar & curry bar the best. Breakfast - on our balcony which was blissful although the food was pretty ordinary. Casino - We found the staff to be unfriendly & unhelpful . We did have a few wins on the roulette table & pokies which made our evenings fun. Entertainment - good quality entertainment. We enjoyed the comedy shows the best. Service - Level 10 staff were fabulous - especially our butlers. Great having free laundry done everyday & our ice delivered to the room. Drink package - we wished we hadn't brought it as we found it hard to use it up everyday. Overall - We did enjoy our cruise, especially having a suite & dining at Salt Restaurant which made our cruise more memorable. We also loved visiting PNG islands , villages, schools & hospital. A suite is a MUST on this ship.... Read Less

Dates were convenient and needed to take a break to relax with friends and family. The cabin and waiter staff were exceptional. Particularly Shaien, Bayu and his assistant waiter Yuting had been superb dining servers. House keeping/Cabin crew Selty was incredibly kind and helpful. It was such an relaxing expierience and these servers in particular along with all the crew in general involved really made it a memorable and perfect cruise. I would highly recommend this cruise to anyone who in need of r and r. It was like a party every night with the abundance of entertainment and activities avaible. Life performance were especially enjoyable. Australia Day celebrations was incredibly memorable and even though we were away from home we were able to celebrate in such a fantastic way. The balloons falling will forever be engraved in our memories. My wife and I and our family will definitely return again for another fantastic cruise. Read Less

I travelled with another seasoned cruise couple (over 80 cruises) and had a balcony room to myself on Deck 11. First thing I noticed was that - being out of Australia - it was decked out as from America - ok....they are from America but have been sailing out of Australia for years now. The majority of patrons were Australian so why were the shops etc - not Australian based, selling Australian good and snacks?? I had an issue with the food - in the BUFFET the choice was fine although I could not eat any of the preprepared hot food as it mostly came in plastic bags and simply heated and reheated. Who knows what was in any of it. The sweets looked great, were creative enough, although, again, I could not eat it after tasting some initially as, for example, the APPLE CRUMBLE was 10% apple, 90% crumble if you were lucky (shame). no icecream either. The premade coffee was disgusting ... and I am not too fussy .... but I saw them remove this premade coffee from under the dispenser and saw it premixed coming out of a plastic bag. I have never seen that before not did I ever think I would. I had no issue with the dining areas although you only had one choice of dining as such that was included in your fare. The paying extra restaurants were relatively empty for the 14 days. That tells you enough. Another thing was the entertainment. It was ok. The shows were nothing to write home about and the guest artists were good but again, not great. They only went for 1/2 hour - never experienced that before. You no longer sat down and you had to get up and leave again :-)) There were no movies in the movie theatre - instead they were all on top deck out in the weather. When they were on, the sound was so loud you could not hear anyone talking to you. Such a beautiful theatre too. I have been on another cruise where this theatre was used for movies (as it should) and the ambience and mood was fantastic. I left an item on deck one evening and on realising, went back early the next morning and it was not there. I reported it missing and was told it will be handed in within the next 24 hours or so. It wasn't so I requested security to look at the video of the area that night. Reception staff told me that it was not important enough an item (of no value to them) to have security go through the footage. Luckily, it was handed in days later and very suspiciously so. No matter ... I have it back. The excursions were good and well organised. shuttles to town centres were great, embarkation was fast, disembarkation was also fast. So ... would I go with them again - probably but I would know what to expect. Value for money????? To be fair - probably. Read Less

First cruise and I was terrified due to negative reviews on here. Our review...well we are now hooked....an amazing cruise. We ate everywhere...enjoyed it all. The ships crew are constantly cleaning to keep the ship presentable. The entertainment is amazing. Attend as much as possible. All incredibly enjoyable especial the Maquee live shows. Entertainment crew hilarious Mathew Dom Pablo Miguel etc. We had the smaller cheaper cabins which were perfect for our budget and needs....hot showers were amazing. Many reviews complained about the interior being old....well I'm no spring chicken either any more but it's how you present yourself and this ship is no different....the decor is gorgeous. We did a few pacific Islands and pre booked our tours through the ship and had a great time being emersed in the culture and saw some amazing scenery. All our kids 3-17 attended kids clubs Turtle cove HQ and HQ+ and loved it experience. We also had EDGE packages. These were prepaid great for 7-25yrs. Our adults would probably pay per session next time as didn't get the value from pre purchasing. Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts for your passion to serve. Sad to see you retiring but hope to travel again with P&O and see some familiar faces. Read Less

Everything went perfectly on the cruise, went on a 7 night from melbourne around australia. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was excellent and was worth the money. We had a balcony cabin, Our cabin was abit tight but thats probably because i didnt know what to expect. The dining was perfect, weather it was the free buffet or the fine dining restaurants. The entertainment was really good. Didnt expect so much but was really happy. There was never a dull moment. Either in the day shows or the adult comedy shows or even sitting at a bar having a few drinks. I went with my partner and i advise couples to get the ultimate romance package. Very good value. The shore tours are good but have to book them in advance to get a good one and be prepared. But once again i cant stress enough the great service from all staff. Thank you guys so much for the wonderful journey Read Less

On the 28th December 2018 we embarked on a New Years cruise with P&O (the prices for this particular cruise were double if not triple normal prices due to the time of year). The dramas started when we paid for priority checkin however our tickets did not list this, it wasnt such a big issue, however at the time we didnt know this was just the start of the many issues we would experience. First day on the cruise one of our suitcases never arrived to our room, after calling reception we were told to wait and they will contact us back once they have tracked it down. 1.5 hours later sitting in our room waiting for a call back we called receiption to find our bag was there and we could come down and collect it. CABINS The first 3 days at sea were rough (with approx 6 foot waves) which is not uncommon however the front of the boat was particulary bad and majority of the time we could not be in our rooms due to the severity of the movement. Now to give you some background prior to this cruise we were on another cruise with RC which was in the middle of a cyclone with 8 foot waves and had little to no issues with our room which was also located at the front of the boat so it seems this particular boat with P&O may of not be of the same standard mechanically. Our room was on level 11 (pool 12 and pantry 14) which was a great location however levels 5,6,7 are also great as they are close to bars , reception and shops. Cabins were clean and liveable however they do not reflect the standard you would expect when paying a minimum $6k a couple (interior room) on new years. They are the original cabins and corner rooms are particulary smaller. If you are particular with pillows make sure you take your own as they are not the best. The rooms do have a safe and fridge and a great little sensor light for night time toilet trips. They also only have 1 australia power point , 1 european power point and 1 US power point. The rooms do have a hair dryer however they are very basic. Overall we were fine with our rooms however during our trip the toilet blocked up , lost all power and lights in our room at 12am in the morning and also had issues with the door locks not recognising our cards. A special mentionto the room attendents who do an amazing job , are very fast and are friendly. FOOD Not to bad, same as most cruise boats. We liked lukes , dragon lady and the cafe for cakes and tea. We love how P&O have set up the pantry as it stops alot of food being touched by other guests and limits food waste. Special mention to 400 grandi , great food , amazing staff and a nice quiet place on the ship. STAFF We were extremly lucky to experience great staff at the ocean bar , the cafe and 400 grandi. They are extremly helpful and accomodation. ENTERTAINMENT For a New Years cruise entertainment was limited however for a standard cruise it was not bad. Love riot was a great show (approx $15 per person) it was well worth it. Please note P&O seem to limit any adult only shows for 9pm and 10pm at night which wasnt always the best if you have a port day the next day. Please note lawn bowls and slides are not open permently only certain hours. PORT DAYS / TENDERS For locations with a port it was very simple and quick to get off and well organised. For ports which required tenders it became a bit of a mess and for one of our ports we waited 1.5 hours and then gave up getting off. Some people waited over 2 hours to get off and no explanation was given. After speaking to people who were lucky to get off we found guests on the beach kept snorkeling in the tender lanes which would then hold up the boats. P&O didnt seem to get these people out of the water or issues warnings to causing delays for other guests and some guests didnt even get off. SHORE TOURS We were lucky enough to do a great snorkelling tour in Santo which was well worth the money. However the couple we were travelling with did a village tour on another island and it was nothing like the tour summary and they did not learn anything from it. GUESTS Possibly some of the worst behaviour I have seen. Many of the guest were extremly rude , self centred , would push past or push in lines and we even experienced guests permently calling our room at 1am even though they were told they were calling the wrong room. Kids where still running around after 9pm and would often fill up the lifts or press all buttons inthe lifts. Our last morning there were kids outside our cabin door screaming at 5am with parents who did not care (our room was out of the way). The experience which really sent us over the edge was this one lady which we had to ask 4 times to move so we could sit down on the first day and book restaurants. We then had to ask her another 6 times to move so we could get up from our seat. I also experienced a lady at the gym who proceeded to push pass me and tell me she was waiting for a tredmill and she was next in line..... mind you i had been on the equipment for a good 5 mins before she appeared from somewhere having a cry. Please note the gym gets packed out and runs out of room and equipment duringthe mornings. Overall terrible behaviour and this doesnt even go into the fights , yelling and crappy comments we heard being shouted between guests and at the poor staff. LEAVING THE BOAT You are told to put your bags outside your room between 4pm and 8pm the night prior. Please note no where do they say you can self assist and take your own bags off but you can do this and it will get you off the boat faster. We got off the boat at 740am (we were told 720am for group 1 and 2). When we finally got off to collect our bags, our bags where not out yet and we had to wait atleast 30-40mins for our bags to come through. If you are being picked up or have a flight please keep this in mind. LIFOU If you are travelling to Lifou please note you need a ticket for jinek bay. If you do not get a ticket you will not be able to snorkel. Even though this is plastered everywhere we watched many people ignore this and walk in 30 degrees heat to the bay to then be disappointed. Quick tip, everyday you get a newsletter , make sure to read the back page for sales and spa deals. Read Less

We choose this cruise because was relatively cheap and great for short break. Pretty much everything was mediocre. Food very ordinary. The pantry was boring with the same food each morning. Desert station was good. The main restaurant wasn’t any better. We had really bad weather and there was not much information or updates. Never seen The Captain and I think I heard his voice twice during our 4 days cruise. Entertainment didn’t met my expectations until last night where everybody was enjoying good, old rock’roll. Cabin was old with very firm bed and worn flat pillows. Decor was very ordinary in need of updating. There was not enough attention from the crew towards people who were sick during the really rough sea. The cabin crew on the other hand was very helpful, polite and friendly. Cruising on Pacific Jewel was my first experience with P & O . Never again on Pacific Jewel! Read Less

We chose this series of Cruises as a cost effective way to increase the number of cruise nights for status recognition with Princess Cruises working towards Elite. We are based in Melbourne but flew to Sydney for a Comedy cruise to Melbourne, then Melbourne-Eden-Melbourne, then Melbourne-Hobart-Kangaroo Island-Melbourne (total 13 night). We were expecting a 3* experience and that and a little more was delivered. The Public rooms of the ship have been refurbished and are very pleasant to spend time in and the Waterfront MDR has a more intimate feel than the larger MDR's we have experienced. Ocean view Cabin (9182) was spacious for two, Cabin stewards very friendly, accommodating and responsive to ad hoc requests. Cabin cleaned well. MDR service varied between very good and below average with food OK, depending who the table staff were. Food was average compared to other cruise lines with less variety (reduced variety expected in selecting these cruises) Live Music was very good with a standard range of free activities (We didn't try any of the Edge Activities at an extra cost) Speciality restaurant (Salt) offered better quality food and attentive service but were pricey compared to other cruise lines ($AU 59 per head, wine extra) We have booked 3 short B2B cruises again for similar reasons as we took these cruises Read Less

This was our first cruise with Carnival and I have to say that I think it was our least favorite. That's not to say that it was bad, it just did not come up to the standard, overall of other cruises we have been on, this being our seventh cruise. Embarkation was smooth, but very little information was displayed and the staff did not tell you much at check-in. Other cruise lines issue the room key at check-in, but Carnival have it an envelope at your door which was not told to us until we asked and two different people told me different things???, The decor of the ship is......... how do you say.................unusual. Very dark and very unusual to the point of being gourde. Not to everyone's taste I am sure. Dark wall panels, lots of ancient style paintings and most of the coulombs were made to look like an urn. Our room was spacious and well appointed and the hotel staff, as always were excellent. The room was well laid out and even if it is the same size a other cabins we have been in it appeared larger and more spacious. We chose an inside cabin and ended up with a window with an obstructed view which was excellent. No you did not have a view of the ocean, but a large window with a view where you could see the sea whooshing by. Much better than just an inside cabin. The food, while of good quality, was not as good a variety as we expected. The Lido deck was very popular and busy and the amount of food outlets was too small to cater for the numbers. The free Pizzas and Hamburgers were good, but the wait could be considerable. The Truffles restaurant menu was not very appealing so I think most people chose to eat in the Lido deck buffet. As to the bar service, Carnival have chosen to have seats all around the bar leaving no room for service. Lots of people buy drink packages now and particularly on the first night you could not get near the bar. They need to take out three or four seats and have a sign "Service Only" so others can get to the bar and the bar tenders know who is next in line. Bar staff were very busy all the time because lots of people order cocktails, which take time to make. I just wanted a beer and my wife a wine, so we are always waiting for ages to get served, and only take a few minutes to serve and be on our way. The price for the three day cruise we did out of Melbourne was quite expensive for the three days. We have been on two day cruises that were a quarter the price. Overall, we enjoyed the cruise and the break, but of the seven cruises we have done this would be our least favorite. It would be appealing to people with children as they cater well for the younger set ad they boast that their cruise line carries the most families and children. Although very busy, all the staff were very helpful, happy and extremely hard working and we have no complaints about any of the staff. Read Less

First time on Carnival line and chose this Cruise as we had a last minute discounted cabin. Have cruised over a dozen times with Princess, Celebrity Solstice Solstice and P&O. We were worried that our indoor cabin under the Red Frog Bar would be noisy, it was extremely quiet except for the occasional scraping of chairs. The cabin was spacious with heaps of hanging space and a good sized shower. Overall cleanliness was very good. The entertainment was probably the best we had experienced and the Cruise Director Jen was energetic and the love of people and her job was obvious. We ate just about everywhere. Found the Truffles Restaurant fabulous for breakfast and lunch. Could be hit and miss at dinner. The free pizza was great, as was the hamburger station and Mexican. Buffet was just a pass. Salad bar was great, and desserts very good, however except for the vegetables the rest of the buffet was pretty ordinary. Meats seemed dry and over cooked. This was a small negative, as considering the market Carnival gears itself to (families) we expected this. Carnival Legend has plenty of sitting areas inside, and we never found it a problem to find a sun lounge at the adults only Serenity area. Some people will grizzle just about everything given the chance, we found many many positives. No need to rush dining and head to showroom early to bag a seat, as there were always plenty in the two tiered showroom. Lifts were quick and no breakdowns. Waiters bursting into song some evenings in Truffles bought a smile to many a face. Carnival Legend is a fun ship...go with the flow, we certainly would travel with Carnival again if you want a relaxed holiday. We didn’t find the children on board a problem...some adults could learn from them. And...there was always the free Adults Serenity area to escape if need be with it’s own bar. Yes, you can wear shorts into the evening dining room (except for formal nights) and we found this wonderful. Not so many clothes to pack. Most people were always smart casual. All in all, thanks Carnival....we will come back. Read Less

We were pleasantly surprised by the Pacific Dawn. We had a balcony, which was very small but the outlook was great. The cabins were clean and had usual 3 star amenities liquid soap, shampoo/conditioner and tissues. The cabin stewards were very helpful and friendly. On the cruise we mainly ate at the Waterfront Restaurant and there was always enough choice. Always remember the kitchens are in the bottom of the boat so don’t choose food that would dry out easily. The Pantry always had a lot of food to choose from. We were on a cruise with 2000 people but it never seemed overly crowded. We always got a seat and there were some quiet areas on the boat. The live music was great I would have liked a bit more live music on deck in the afternoons. You have to remember most people pay less than $200 a day to travel on this boat. This includes all your meals. You can’t get a cafe breakfast for less than $20, $25 for lunch and $30 for dinner so I think paying less than $200 a day for accommodation, transport, food and entertainment is unbelievable value. It is not 5 star but neither is the price . If you don’t want to spend money at Airlie grab your towel and head to the lagoon, it is beautiful and view is priceless . If you want quiet time head to decks on 6 or 7 - heaps of seating or to The Dome. It was a great cruise with great staff. Read Less

Food was warm and twice (didn’t bother lineing up a 3rd time) the wait getting into the dining room was everlasting. Two tours were organised and the main objective was to take the bus load of passengers to one or more shops so everyone could purchase local garbage key rings or Chinese t-shirts. The cost was $120 per person. I ran into 5 guys from the ship who organised their own tour costing them $30 each and going to several other places than my bus went to and not including shopping centres. I think all the cruise ships need to find some more interesting locations to go too as the current ones are outdated and these days overpriced. Read Less

This was a yearly holiday with my sisters, our second Cruise, first on the Spirit. We had the best time, the ship was in great condition, our cabin was cosy but comfortable and very clean, thanks to Cristina and Moh. The staff were very friendly. The dining in the Empire Room was amazing, we had excellent service with Kaur, I Madi and Goran, the food was delicious, there was not one meal we weren't happy with. The Showtime at 7 o'clock was so much fun and a Highlight. The dining in other areas was also excellent and the Serenity Bar was the place to go away from the kids (although we didn't have a problem with any of the children, most were very well behaved and polite). The staff all over the ship were very friendly, we only came across one grumpy one, he must have been tired and don't blame him as they all work so hard and long hours, we only saw him the once. The Ports and excursions were fantastic, except for one, the Mare Island was not one we would bother to go to again. Mystery Island seemed to be everyone's favourite. Loved all the Entertainment, (there was plenty of it, there's no way you could be bored). We met many new friends, including the Staff I have mentioned, we laughed, ate, drank and have great memories. We were sad when the cruise ended and are looking forward to our next Cruise as soon as possible. Read Less

I recently took a 4 day cruise to the whitsundays and was impressed with service, friendliness on this cruise ,from the Maitre D' Karthik the exec chef Jose ,restaurant manager Philipe, head waiters and waiters. on deck 10 bar is very good atmosphere and enjoyed afternoon drinks, the bars are good but drinks are very pricy $16 for long island tea?? Chefs table was good food was good and portion sizes however wine matching was off the mark. Room steward very invisible and cabin shower not in good operational order. Balcony too small its more like a big window and the bed mattress very hard, cupboard room and hanging space very adequate. I would not go on a longer cruise than 4 days. There are a lot of add on payments ,room service is at a fee and pizzas are too expensive 12.50. and it seems that while you pay a reasonable but not very low price there are other costs added on if you want a bit more. A last minute choice as we would normally do a road trip to Queensland this time of year (Australian Winter). Had only done 2 cruises previously 1 on Azamara Journey....Athens to Barcelona and 2 Celebrity Millenium Singapore to Hong Kong. Price for this local cruise was a big factor and we weren't disappointed with anything. Boarding was very smooth and efficient all tendering and disemarkation very well managed. Delighted with our Guarantee balconcy cabin 4231 at rear of ship...plenty of storage space and layout very good...great bathroom. Cabin steward always happy and remembered our names and cabin beautifully clean. Dinner a Empire dining room was excellent and very attentive waiters. Lido buffet area always clean and food very good. Bar staff always helpful and mostly knew our regular order. Alround nice ship and staff and good value. Not the same demographics of passengers as previous cruises but a very lovely crowd. Read Less

Comprehensive Review P & O – Pacific Dawn trip to the Pacific Islands. Embarkation day – The luggage was collected at the terminal in a control manner and the check in was also straight forward. Disembarkation – No issues, well organised. Boarding – Ship’s security x-ray the hand bag and passed through the metal detector similar to the airport. Dining Request - As the dining option was waitlisted so there were passengers queuing outside the Waterfront restaurant to make their reservations and I was lucky to have a table as requested. If you come alone or as a couple the customer service will try to fit you with others on the big table. Inside Cabin – The cabin is fine for 2 persons with 2 children but for 4 adults in it would be squashy and not recommended. There are no toiletries provided, the bathroom is at a reasonable size and the room service had to be chosen whether once or twice daily. (2 x daily service not automatic) Deck Party – On the first day whilst the ship still alongside the crew performed a DJ dance party on the main deck and that was the only time it happened throughout the all trip. Reception – Deck 5 is part of a 3-storey atrium with a wide staircase at one end leading to the upper levels, there is an ATM machine and also some stations to check and top up for the bills. There are 2 restaurants where food is inclusive in the fares, the Waterfront (Dress Code for dinner only) & the Pantry. The Waterfront is an a la carte restaurant where the meals (entre & main) are more likely to be well presented, decorative but small in quantity but quality food can be purchase at a cost, I always complemented my meal to the Pantry particularly with the desert but no ice cream which can be bought. Guests can eat at the Pantry’s food-court-style outlets as many plates as they like with international cuisine but struggle to accommodate passengers at peak times. Sport competitions – There are some games on board such as Table Tennis, mini Golf etc. as there were one large group only at each competition, going through the second round can be a long haul. Daily Shows – The twice daily shows are non-spectacular, are for those who like stage musical, a little bit of magic and stand-up comedy. Bingo & Trivia – these are regular pastimes on the ship, every day. Music Band – There were 2 bands on board, a piano man and a guitar man. Main Deck – there is no adult laps swimming pool on the ship just a small one for the kids and a couple of hot tubs mainly on Deck 10 aft. There is a giant cinema screen on Deck with a reasonable sound system. Walking exercise area – Blocked for a few days due to high wind. Waterslides & Waterpark – Good enjoyment for the kids & grown-ups. Fitness Centre – Deck 2, inside gymnasium with no natural light. Massage & Beauticians - Very Expensive. Casino – Poker machines & some tables for entertainments only. Noumea – Berth right in town & free Wi-Fi available ashore, walking distance. Lifou – Tender transfer, nice beach. Port Vila – Mini bus ride to the city, shocking drivers with continuation nagging and hassle for a tour of the island. There are a couple of duty free stores with reasonable prices. The bottom line, the ship can be a fun ship , average in excellence (3*) but expect to pay extra for upgraded meals and for some activities. Read Less

Embarkation and access was easy and smooth. Cabins were not ready but that was to be expected. Went straight to the pool and bar while waited for rooms to be ready. The weather was perfect every day and just hung at the serenity bar away from screaming kids. Noumea, Isle of Pines and Mare Isle were great snorkeling excellent. Food in all areas was good Main restaurant and Lido deck there was always plenty of variety and choice. In general the fish wherever you were was excellent and perfectly cooked. The cabin "Grand Suite" was very comfortable and steward Dennis very obliging. All in all a very good value cruise if you are on a budget. This is our second Carnival cruise it just happens to be 1/2 price of same excursion with Celebrity which would have been our preferred choice. We wanted to go to Isle of Pines and that is what we did. Celebrity is a great choice if you have kids and want value for money. Though they try and gouge you at every corner so watch your bill. Last Cruised in - 1980 , P & O Oriana, Catch up with friend on short cruise from back then. Find out what Cruising in 2018 Was like. Excellent time on Carnival Spirit, All Service was good , ship was good , Crew Good, Ship was easy to get around on , to all relevent facilities.food in buffet area very good. Especially enjoyed made to order Omletes for breakfast, Empire Restaurant excellant with Your Time Dining option. Drinks a little bit expensive side , but what heck most pubs in Sydney charge too, Carnival bars catered for Aussie Beers , on Tap , which was a plus , Tooheys , VB , xxxx, Plus their own brew Thirsty Frog. ALL bars had table service for lazy time people , Only one disapointment, was Shore Excursion to Cascade Brewery facility was not operating, but was a Saturday. $100.00 ouch. Cost of cruise was good. Good time had will cruise again. On Carnival or P& O etc Read Less

The crew, security and cleaning staff were all stellar. Melbourne folks are an absolute blast to party with. Carnival Liberty sells more alcohol than any other ship in the fleet largely due to the good folks from Melbourne's love for celebrating life to the fullest! If your looking for a glass-half-full trip then this is the one. It's also largely suitable for families, we could see no evidence of any impropriety.. just great great times. Truffles restaurant was great and they would break the dinner up with their dancing cabaret through the enthused diners. We didn't really try the buffet up on the Lido deck except for cooked breakfasts. The staff were so very courteous and helpful. They made the whole experience very personable one which I really love. The best advice I can give is don't try to participate in all the activities all the time - you will exhaust yourself. Just pace yourself and give yourself a little buffer to go and enjoy the view of Bass Straight from the observation deck. Read Less

We were hesitant about carnival but it suited for a quick trip after 5 days in sydney we did the same cruise 11yrs ago on a P&O ship but spirit was much better, we weren't planning on doing shore excursions due to the cost and we had previously been there. Only got off in noumea to get free WiFi it is very expensive on ship. We had a minor issue with seating at emerald dining room as we wanted a table for 2 but it was quickly sorted out. For my husband's birthday we booked nouveau Restaurants it was the most amazing meal best steak hubby has ever had side dishes, dessert and service was top class it was worth alot more than $45 each. All other times we ate at emerald dining room we could not fault the food, service or atmosphere, we were very very blessed to have a private tour and tasting in galley for emerald it was amazing something l had always wanted to see CYRIL the chef was lovely and explained all the ins/outs of the kitchen, produce and training we loved the opportunity and really made it special many thanks to isabella from dining room for selecting us.. The shows were great and always little activities if you wish to do them, oncecagain many thanjs to all for a wonderful job. Read Less

We thought it would be good to try the Refurbed Dawn, 1) Cabin was good & the cabin stewards Shava & Hassan were excellent. 2) The overall refurb is good, the old jungle bar now the Oriant was where we spent our evenings 3) The entertainment was poor quality, what with 1 guitar player then 2 guitar players the response from guests was not good, the piano player played so softly she was hard to undarstand , group wise Dimage was good but colour 4 were more suited to the local dance hall-pathetic. 4) Enjoyed the pantry & Grill. 5) The main restaurant food was never hot & one time Liz got cold vegetables & when she pointed this out to waiters & supervisor who agreed the veges were cold the Answer from the Exec chef was "make sure her meal is hot tomorrow night"-not happy Jan 6)we have traveled on the Dawn 7 times & this was the last straw ,never again with P& O Read Less

This was our third cruise on Legend and our second with the same itinerary so we knew what to expect. There's lots to do, great entertainment, excellent food. We tended to go to the restaurant each night to avoid the temptation of too much food being available on the Lido deck - great service and lots of variety at the restaurant changing every night. The Nouveau Restaurant was worth a visit - charge was $45 but good value. Shore excursions were available but we did our own thing - in Noumea we went into town and got a ticket for the Hop on Hop Off bus ($A12 as opposed to the $A20 being charged on the ship) and went straight to Citron Bay for swimming and a visit to the brewery. Buying a bus ticket was the only way to get to the beach at Mare (snorkeling disappointing as little to see). Snorkeling at Isle of Pines was excellent - we saw a sea snake and two large turtles which was unexpected. Service was always excellent, staff friendly and helpful. If you have children make sure you supervise them at the pools as there are no staff for that purpose and there are lots of children jumping around and seemingly unaware of other children. Read Less

This was my first cruise, and it was fantastic, could not fault anything at all, . the 1st night we dined in the Dragon Lady and it was very nice, next night was at Angelos (Italian ) again very nice, the rest of the cruise we dined in the Water front restaurant , and this was lovely, a 3 course meal every night and food was very well presented, and tasted great, The waiters were very friendly and helpful, most nights we had Franky as our waiter, and he was lovely, we went to Charlies for coffee and sometimes cake, each day and that was a lovely place to sit and relax and enjoy a nice coffee and the cakes were really yummy, the crew there were very friendly and went out of their way to make our time relaxing and enjoyable, The entertainment was fantastic, we went to the show each night and shows were great some night and absolutely spectacular other nights, there were plenty of bars around the ship, I spent a lot of time in the ocean bar on deck 7 at nights listening to piano melodies with Nicholas Gentile, a very talented young man with a beautifull voice, plenty of comfortable seating, or you could sit up or lie down in the window seats, and just relax with the music or with a book, went to several of the trivia events, and played bingo, that was really good, the guys doing the bingo made it so much fun, there was a over 18 section to relax in the pool and hot tubs, we went there most days and it was very relaxing, we had the refreshment drinks package, which we purchased before sailing, this was great, we got all the bottled water we needed, mocktails which were really yummy, and juices, and lots of coffee, had caramel lattee's every day which we could get at any of the resturants or bars, had breakfast at the waterfront some days the rest of the time at the pantry, which had something for everyone . would definatly recommend P&O to anyone Read Less
