Antarctica is a must, but Hurtigruten was a bust

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Roald Amundsen

My Mum and I choose this cruise to celebrate her 60th Birthday. We choose Hurtigruten because of their long experience in polar sailing and because of their science program. Antarctica itself was a magical experience but we left regretting our choice of cruise line. Hurtigruten markets itself as luxury for a reasonable price, but make no mistake- they are a budget cruise line with a budget product ...

Worst cruise I've ever been on

I have been on numerous cruises throughout the world, most of which I greatly enjoyed. This experience with Hurtigruten on a supposed 17 night Antarctica cruise was the worst vacation experience of my life. I found the food so bland as to be inedible by the third day, and in general I found the personnel, especially management, to be dismissive and unfriendly. The journey down the coast of ...

This Antarctic trip was a total disappointment

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Roald Amundsen

If Hurtigruten only kept what was promised full-bodied, everything would be fine. Apart from the service in the Lindstrom restaurant and the room service, nothing was even remotely fulfilled. Poorly organized excursions and still limited (e.g. kayaking in the Antarctic through Losenscheid). And that with only 50% occupancy of the ship. Completely overpriced excursions (in the Chiloe ...

Stay far away from Hurtigruten

OUR ADVICE: CHOOSE A DIFFERENT COMPANY! Take your “inner explorer” elsewhere. We took the last cruise of the 2022 Antarctic season with Hurtigruten (Feb 28 to March 17). It turned out to be a COVID disaster for us and many others on the ship, MS Roald Amundsen, and Hurtigruten was completely disorganized, incompetent and unhelpful in its response. After two pandemic years avoiding ...

Overall, the cruise was great (crew, food, expeditions, staff, etc)....my problem is with the room and, more specifically, Lindblad's deceptive advertising that resulted in my girlfriend and i paying around $8000 more for a standard room. Don't be fooled, despite what Lindblad shows on their website, other than suites, all rooms on the ship regardless of "Category" are exactly the same and they ...

Unorganized/sub-standard/look elsewhere

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Viking Octantis

Viking failed to deliver-big time. They are so disorganized -a big mess really. The flight here was chartered by Viking-the food was not eatable, there was no water or ice and some did not even get meals. The Covid pre -testing protocols are all over the place-they simply do not know what they are doing. As for the cruise itself- I suggest going with a cruise line that has experience in ...

Disappointing- National Geographic Quest / Lindblad

Review for a South America Cruise on National Geographic Quest

Day 1: Met at airport for charter to Puerto Barries. Overall pretty easy process. We did have issue with security line timing, and interesting to learn the guide with us didnt know Spanish, so was unable to communicate with the official, however all was resolved. Immigrations was a nightmare, partially because 2 minutes before our flights took off, our tour group starting handing out numerous ...

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Ortelius

Only few ships go into the Ross Sea. That's why I didn't mind the rather poor design of Ortelius (the lecture room practically guarantees seasickness, uncomfortable bar area, too small dining room etc.). The ship's crew responsible for operating the ship and the hotel staff all were professional, friendly and helpful. However, the actual expedition and expedition staff was quite disappointing. ...

This was one of the places on my bucket list and I was really surprised at what we found. Here are a group of islands on the equator 600 miles west of Ecuador and we thought we would be on lush tropical islands. The truth is that they are closer to a desert environment than tropical. The variety of wildlife and cactus and the successful efforts of the Ecuadoran government to preserve the ...
