It was a new liner. I was just curious to see how an American liner design a cruise ship just for the China market. I was also looking forward to the Chinese food at the Windjammer or Two70. Most cruise ships would serve black tea or flavoured teas or green tea at the buffet area.I wish they had included Chinese tea for a change. My opinion of the food is similar to other reviewers who were also onboard the Spectrum in May. But the crew who served us food at the dining rooms were fabulous.Many thanks for being attentive to my folks. Individual travellers might feel left out.The afternoon quizzes at the bar were boring with no prizes. There were no super enthusiastic inhouse photographers to take our photos.I appreciate that but that puts the photo viewing gallery the most underutilised place. There were lots of indoor spaces like tiny family sitting rooms with litter of couches spread all over the public area. The Singaporeans demonstrated that they are for afternoon naps and indoor picnic, I am not so sure about how the Chinese would utilise those spaces. What are forgone on the Spectrum are big open spaces in the swimming pools, big outdoor cinema screenings, wide outdoor decks in public area balcony. There are more indoor activities such as fencing lessons, bumper car rides, karaoke lounge which appeal to Chinese of all ages and who are also less keen on sun-tanning. My cabin attendants were from Indonesia.I was thankful.Besides Bahasa, they spoke English well. I had the 'luck' of ending up in the ship's clinic.I don't think anyone speaks Mandarin in there. Fingers crossed, i hope they are bored to tears in their entire stay in China. The seasoned cruise tourists will appreciate the fuss free muster drill that took place without the need to pull out our safety vests, line up in rows and put on our vests.But for many Asians onboard, it is their maiden cruise. This is my umpteenth cruise and I had experienced a real situation which required reporting to the muster station. I much prefer the hassle and inconvenience. Read Less

We chose CMV for the itinerary that started in Singapore and ended in London 46 days later. The ship was a total delight - small but with many stylish lounges, a walk-around promenade deck, two sunny pools, and three free restaurant choices in addition to the buffet. Our interior cabin 4117 was spacious, quiet, and very steady during windy portions of the trip. Since George and I enjoyed every day on board and would do this cruise again, suffice it to say we really liked the food, entertainments, spa services, reading lounges, cabin attendants, cruise directors, casino folks, craft classes, passenger choir, afternoon tea, the informative lectures, and so many other aspects of this cruise. The ambience was relaxed - like being home - rather than super luxe. That made the cruise restful. With many sea days, we were able to read some great books. How nice is that - cruising along and reading? We did not buy a beverage package and survived quite well on tea, coffee, water, and an occasional Schweppes Bitter Lemon over ice. Lovely cruise, lovely staff, a variety of cuisines, and at a good price. Thank you CMV!!! Read Less

Hmmn. The good - Great service by the crew who work hard to keep us all happy. Good food overall in the main restaruant, though I think Carnival do a far better job at the bistro. Chops Grill was fantastic at breakfast. No passnegrs were to be seen at Johnny Rockets. Those who went reported back on bad food. The pools were great.. This is one thing RC have all over Carnival. The pools are bigger, cleaner and the life guards ensure the kids are behaving well at all times. The not so good - The ship is looking increasingly old and tired. Quite a few rust spots on her. The cabins are worse than a 2 star hotel. The crew works hard to keep her clean, mind you. The lifts were particuarly slow and not well programmed. The evening shows were better than expected. The ice rink shows were fantastic. While the crew works hard to reinforce the message of "wash your hands," for some, the message will never get through. Time and time again we saw quite a few other passengers disregard good hygene standards, particuarly at the bistro. e.g picking up food with their bare hands instead of using the tongs. Sure enough, there was an outbreak of cold and flu on the cruise. The whole process of disembarking for shore excersions was average at best. At The first port) Penang, it took over an hour to get us off the ship once the ship was cleared. That had a negative flow on affect for the shore excersion which was cut short. Read Less

Everything about this cruise was fantastic. From the ports we visited, to the length of the cruise, the onboard entertainment, the exercise class choices, the gym facilities, the games and competitions not to mention the food, all exceeded our expectations! The restaurants were impeccable and the food was first class. The décor is exemplary and let's not forget the compliment the cruise staff. The cruise director and his assistant were very high achievers, always at the ready to assist with entertainment and of course anything that a passenger might request. The production entertainers put 110% into all of their performances. The cabins were well appointed and always well maintained by the cabin staff. We were even fortunate to have the weather in our favour with only 1 rainy day and 1 overcast day at sea. Most shore excursions were value for money and the arrangements for departing the ship were co-ordinated with great precision. Well done Princess Cruises!!!! Read Less

My wife and I chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the add on pre cruise tour of Cambodia. Embarkation was smooth and efficient. Once onboard we were told an announcement would be broadcast when our cabins were ready. After a bit of exploring we went to the buffet for a drink and a snack. Much the same as all other buffets people piling plates like it was to be their last meal and difficult to find a seat. No announcement came so we went looking to find our cabin was ready. The room was clean and tidy but a bit on the small side to other cabins and rather less storage. The balcony was also on the small side and a bit scruffy. My wife's luggage turned up fairly prompt but no sign of mine so off we went exploring and to have a cocktail or two. Time for dinner and still no luggage. I informed our cabin steward who said she would go and find out where it was. We didn't see her again until 3 days later when she said hello and asked how we were. The next time was our last night when she asked us to fill out a card that chose a crew member who excelled. So it was off to dinner in the clothes I had been wearing all day. Dinner was ok but nothing to brag about. Back to the cabin still no luggage so off to customer services. I told them of the problem and rather offhandedly the lady asked me if I had checked the luggage room. when I replied no I though luggage was always delivered to the staterooms. She said I should have checked there. Keep calm I told myself. I had to ask her where it was and made my way there. I located my case in the said room and was told it had been held back because there was a pair of scissors in my case. I had to get the scissors out and show them and was then told they were ok and I could take my case. This was now 9.00pm. My wife asked them why the information had not been sent to our room instead of us having to go round investigating. Norwegians customer experience is slowly going down the pan. Dining was not a great experience. We used Azure once and thought the room was dark and the low ceiling made it feel too compact and the meal was average but service was very good. Chin Chin was bright and cheerful and the meal was excellent as was the service. The other nights we had dinner in the Tsars Palace. This is a very delightful room, bright, spacious and luxurious. Service was ok most nights but there were some excellent waiters. The meals were quite mediocre and didn't live up to the opulence of the room. One night I had a lamb shank that was served with a slice of carrot and half a roast potato. I am not a huge eater but this was a bit ridiculous. Another night we ordered Irish coffees and as soon as they arrived we could see they were not right. The cream had all dissolved into the coffee, we picked them up and they were cold. We told the waiter who took them away and replaced them. The replacements weren't cold but slightly warm. We just left them. We told our waiter the following night and he told us they had run out of the whipped cream and were using powdered cream. He told us he would personally make coffees for us. The ones he made were very good. We found a lot of the meals we had were very average and quite often they were only warm. This was the only cruise where I only had one cooked breakfast due to the first one being lukewarm. The rest of the time it was toast, fruit and cereals. Bar service in general was very good except for when they ran out of mint for the mojitos. There was only one night where the entertainment was excellent. This was the Circus act. Some of the acrobatics were spectacular. The rock night was enjoyable. Two of the nights had solo female singers who I thought we just ok. The other night was not my scene at all with some very weird artists. the strangest being one huge overweight guy dancing in a leotard. It made me wonder why females have to cover their breasts when this guy had bigger breasts than some of the girls and he had them swinging about everywhere. But he was well received but not by me. The resident band were very good and performed a wide variety of songs. I cant comment on the activities on board as we only had one sea day so didn't explore. Cant comment on excursions either as we planned our own. We could not find any information on the ports we visited. This was our first Norwegian cruise and we found nothing that would make us want to cruise with them again Read Less

We travelled as a couple but made many new friends on board. Cabin - see below. We had aa promenade facing interior on the 8th d. Quiet and good size. Activities - found details on the Cruise Compass and checked off what we wanted to do. All good from fitness at sidoku, to entertainment and scrap booking. Loved tge kronos band. Food- had 2 nights of dining at tge Chops Grille and Giovanni. Both excellent value undet tge BOGO package. Main dining room the next day was quite the opposite. Gave feedback and food improved after that. The dishes were ovet salty or sweet. Windjammer food was convenient and tasty. Meats there were mostly overdone. Enjoyed the white porridge white bait fish. Eggs, bacon, sausage. Fruits and drinks. We always say at the back to enjoy watching the propeller wake. Café rpmenade was the meeting place for late breakfast and afternoon tea for many. Good bran raisin muffobs, muffin surg egg n ham, beef on rye. choose this cruise because it fitted our itinerary. 1. Cruise Itinerary Just prior to the cruise we were advised the our overnight in Hong Kong had been removed and we would now arrive on disembarkation day. Booking cancellation was not allowed unless the cruise was paid in full without refund. 2. Check-in All embarking passengers were checked in at the same time but cabins were not available until 13:30 so hoards of passengers were milling about with their hand luggage, people were jostling for seats in the buffet and temper were getting frayed almost to the point of fighting. 3. Safety Drill Was carried out on the open deck (Promenade deck) people were squashed together in the hot sun for over half an hour with no directions from the inexperienced crew other than to line up in rows of four. No consideration was given to elderly, disabled or infirm passengers. Instructions during the drill given by staff were not audible or demonstrations visible. 4. Main Luggage Delivery Luggage arrived at the cabin very late (long after the ship sailed) 5. Dining Room Reservation Our booking reservation for dining was completely ingnored, we eventually was offered an alternative table tucked away in a corner under the main staircase. 6. Shore Excursions Shore excursions were very badly managed, passengers for all tours were mixed up together and held in the very overcrowded theatre for over and hour past the assembly time with no idea what was happening. The staff member in charge could not express herself or tell us what was happening in English (or any other language). No announcement were made about where the gangways were located. We were walked down three decks via the stairs and moved from the forward part of the ship to the aft gangway to disembark for the tours. No consideration was given to elderly, disabled or infirm passengers. 7. Library The ships library was a total waste of space with very few books and most of which were in foreign languages 8. In Cabin Movies In cabin movies on the cabin tv were chargeable at between $10 - $15 US dollars per movie 9. WiFi On board WiFi was prohibitively expensive starting at around $15.99 per day for the basic package. 10. The majority of the Cruise Directors staff could not speak English very well which made quizes and trivia games very difficult and hard to understand. No PowerPoint or visual aids were available. The Cruise Director himself was not approachable and did not interact with the passengers. Our whole experience with Royal Caribbean was horrendous. Read Less

We took a cruise from Singapore to Dubai, on part of the QM2 around the world trip. The cabin with sheltered balcony was great and we had an ice bucket with champagne waiting for us when we embarked. The ship is beautiful and the staff were helpful and efficient. The negatives for me were firstly the standard of food in the Britannia Restaurant which we were assigned to. The food was generally not prepared in a manner fitting the ship or the price of the cruise, meat and fish were dry and needed sauces, the vegetables were often hard - beyond al dente and almost uncooked, and the desserts were tasteless and unimaginative. The chefs seemed to focus more on presentation than the taste and texture of the food. We went to the buffet on deck 7 quite often which had a bigger variety of better prepared food and enjoyed it more than the restaurant. The other negative is the fact that there are two very small pools for a large number of people, the limit in each pool is 14 (I think) and there was hardly any room to move around if there was half that number in the water. As the temperatures were around 30 degrees and more, a lot of people were in and out of the pool especially on sea days. I preferred my previous cruises on smaller ships that had better food and bigger pools. Read Less

This was a couples cruise to Asia covering Singapore (2 nights Pre-cruise) Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam & Hong Kong (2 nights post cruise) as part of celebrating my retirement Positives include quality of the ship (Refurbished in 2018), quality of the food & choice of restaurants and shows performed by the ship’s cast were of a very high standard Negatives & where NCL really need to up their game are 1. Lack of organisational skills especially on-shore excursions. We booked 2 thru NCL & both times there was considerable delays in getting bus numbers allocated & getting all guests ashore. Worse was on Koh Samui where tenders were required & NCL only used 5 to transport around 2000 people over a journey that too 20 minutes each way. No surprise that we were 3 hours delayed on leaving port that night!! One other complaint about staff were those involved in teh excursions team. It is normal that they will have local knowledge & experience of the various local ports as well as fact sheets that help guests doing their ‘own thing’. NCL staff had neither & could only provide detail on the shore excursions that they offered 2. Costs - altho NCL came in around the same package cost as other cruise lines the fact they offered extras in the form of on-board credit & internet access anything that had to be paid for on the ship was way more expensive than experienced with other cruise lines. Average cost per excursion was €99 some of which we could have done ourselves at a fraction of the cost. We were also forced to purchase a Visa for Cambodia even if we were NOT going on-shore & staying on the ship. I enquired Pre-cruise & the embassy could provide this @ €35 per person it didn’t state that we would need a visa if we were not disembarking however, NCL billed us €99 per person. Considerable admin fee in my opinion 3 altho the ship’s cast provided excellent shows the acts brought on-board were less than impressive. In fact out of the 5 acts only one, Mary Jess, provided the standard of performance experienced on other ship’s 4. The locations visited were part of the reason we booked the cruise however, was surprised that the ship docked in what can only be described as container yards or working shipyards with the majority miles from the locations that we wanted to visit. For example, in Da Nang it was a 30 minute shuttle bus transfer (@$15pp) to the town/beach & that was the best/closest. Worse was Bangkok (2.5hr drive) & Hanoi (3hr drive) Read Less

Was the first time we cruised with Norwegian and very likely the last. The cruise line policy includes many extra charges that make the value for the money poor. It starts with drinking water (!), the cruise offers for sale packages of NCL branded drinking water. If you want any other brand, you need to buy it from the bar where the price (including automatically 20% service) comes to over $6. 20% service is for handing you the bottle. Specialty restaurants are extra. Best choices for shore tours are sold at a price too high for the level of this cruise. The activities may become overcrowded in particular in shore tours. From the specialty restaurants. we preferred the steakhouse Cagney's and Chin Chin Chinese, Sushi). Chin Chin is included except sushi, Cagney's is extra with prices on a la carte menu. It is worth to purchase the specialty restaurant package that basically includes 5 meals in any specialty restaurant. Out of 8 entertainment opportunities, only 2 were of good quality, both in the last days of the cruise. There is one shore trip included in each port, however we found out that in about 50% of the ports we preferred to purchase non included shore tours which are relative expensive. If you want to enjoy, plan to spend around $2000 extra per cabin - that would include gratuities, specialty restaurants, shore tours and reasonable drinking. This was planned to fit in with sightseeing in Cambodia and Vietnam before and staying with friends in Singapore afterwards. We are regulars with RC so now the ropes quite well. Check in was good, really only Miami seems bad. Gold card saves a few minutes. Cabins were ready by the time we had had our first drink. Clean, not as worn as our last ship over the years though, things like tissues and moisturiser have disappeared. $10 worked the trick! Food was up to the usual standard. We like smaller portions. Everything wrnt like clockwork Kuala Lumpur trip a bit wasted as we only got 3 hours in town. Penang was wonerful, Patang Bay really great and the elephant trip worth every penny Disembarking fine, luggage clearly marked waiting for us. Only moan was the lifeboat drill was interminable. Possible passengers the problem, but the longest one we have ever endured. On board high spot was the pianist in one of the bars. The shows mediocre, otherwise might have upped a star. The one meant to be showcasing Broadway shows was such short clips as to be useless. Probably saving royalties. All in all though, a great week. Read Less

Choose this cruise due to the ports of call offered by Princess in South East Asia. Overall we were very satisfied with this cruise. In fact we completed two back to back 10 day cruises which covered different ports of call. A couple ports of call had 2 to 3 hours of driving to the main City attractions which took a lot of time away from actually seeing attractions. Princess should allow more time in port or overnight to be able to spend enough time at attractions. Two different ports only allowed about 2-1/2 to 3 hours before having to drive back to cruise ship. We usually love the entertainment on board Princess cruises except both of these cruises had mostly singers as their main attraction and only 1 comedian over the 20 day cruise experience and two acrobatic performances which both were great. There were no ventriloquists, illusionist or Hypnotists etc. to give some variety to the show offerings. A second comedian would have been a nice since this cruise was 20 days long. Meal quality at the main dinning room varied. We were not pleased with any of the steaks offered in the dining room. You have to pay extra to get better quality steaks in the main dining room which we did not want to do. This was new to Princess other than going to a specialty dining room. Other dishes were very good though and the deserts great as always. Service in the dining room was top notch. We had several excellent waiters & waitresses which always adds to the dining experience. Rooms are not large but the most annoying aspect is the Showers are way too small. The cold water coming out of the tap is not cold and was very warm probably due to the water desalination systems that use sea water. The Ocean temp. was in the Mid 80's. and they do not cool the water very much after purifying it. Read Less

We stayed in Singapore the night before in the Copthorne riverfront hotel where we were able to walk along the river before being picked up by taxi at 1pm. Embarkation was very quick as we are elite we were put through a short queue. With all visas checked and in order we were onboard within 1/2 hour. Cabin was available when we boarded at 1.30 and cases arrived about 4 in time for muster which was crowded but quick. the cabin 1126 was excellent, just what we ordered, peaceful and kept very clean with a good shower. Being elite we had cocktails and canopies from 5pm. it was good to meet over a drink before dinner, Chris the captains club manager mingled as did many other officers We had 1st sitting in the main dining room. food was always very good and our waiter made sure that we were happy with our meals every day breakfast in the Oceanview was where they serve the best poached eggs and egg Benedict sometimes we had breakfast in the dining room The best ice-cream at sea is available all day in the oceanview and always served with a smile entertainment was varied with only one bad night and that was the Elton John tribute, half of the audience had got up and walked out of the 1st show. there was music and bands or games to attend so plenty going on. By 11 the ship was very quiet as the cruise was port intense we booked 4 excursions before we left home through the celebrity site when we saw the 30% off we did find extra excursions when on ship and changed our basic trip to Cochin to a longer and fuller itinerary which included a boat trip, they refunded the money paid and i rebooked, so it worked out well. Staff from the ship were on the trip to help out and i must praise Spicey from the children club , who supervised with such care we loved the tea plantation trip in Sri Lanca We did the Mombai on the Move on the 1st day in Bombay which included a train journey and on the 2nd day the markets . both trips were very informative and enjoyable Goa we stayed on board and enjoyed the facilities At Muscat we docked in the town and so walked as we had been before. the souks are very near with cafes along the sea front . this was a very pleasant place to stop and just walk Dubai we have also been to before. most people on the ship booked the open top bus Phuket was by tender straight into the town, tender was very quick both ways and as it was our 1st stop we just walked in the lovely sunshine along the beach front We loved this cruise, we had a good itinerary, met some lovely people and found that the staff onboard were the most friendliest that we have encounted Our flight was not till 2.30 am so we booked into the Millennium hotel which was opposite the airport and they provided transport back at 11pm. That was better than staying at the airport all day Cruise was booked with Alana at Cruise.co.uk who looked after us and made sure that we had the correct visas etc and was always available for advice Read Less

Chose cruise because of itinerary but also because of good experience of good previous Celebrity experience. Great cruise. Singapore to Dubai via India. Our 3rd celebrity cruise but first on a Millennium class ship Embarkation in Singapore very slow but disembarkation very efficient. We had 2 nights in Singapore pre cruise and 2 nights Abu Dhabi post cruise in our cruise package from Iglu Cruises. Hotels good and all but one private transfer went smoothly. Very happy with ship. Never seemed crowded. Preferred dining room layout to the Solstice class ships. Not the same wow factor admittedly but seemed roomier. Food excellent. Great variety, particularly in Ocean View buffet restaurant. Best buffet we've experienced. Service in main dining room a bit slow at times but good otherwise. Think the kitchen struggled to cope the nights there was an extra special cook to order dish. such as lobster or Beef Wellington. Very friendly crew. Must have said Good Morning about 20 times on way to breakfast!! Entertainment - high quality guest artists and varied shows. Ships own productions ok. Best was the Broadway Show, particularly Les Miserables. Loved the Modern Strings duo who played at various venues around ship and the guitarist. Lacked enrichment talks about the countries we were visiting. "Beyond Podium " talks apart from one on Buddhism not relevant to itinerary. Ports of Call talks more about selling excursions than giving information about the country or port. Loved Cafe al Bacio. Went there most afternoons and had quality coffee and yummy cakes. Staff particularly Marren and Anastasia very attentive. Enjoyed the Modern Strings duo music there too. Bliss! Cabin great. Outside on deck 3 midship. Comfortable and bright with large circular window and no higher deck overhang. Good sized shower and nice built in bathroom furniture. Cabin in good convenient location. Kept perfectly by our steward Yacob. Atrium a bit dull looking and lacked atmosphere compared to Solstice class ships. Rendevous bar decor a bit dull too but that may be addresses in the upcoming refurb. Would be nice to have a Piano Bar in Atrium or something to give atmosphere. Most attractive bar area was deck 4 martini and crush bars but very popular and hard to get a seat there. Pool area and top decks had plenty of sunbeds but finding shade was difficult. More areas with sun canopies would be good. All in all a wonderful experience. had forgotten how good Celebrity is since 6 years since last cruised with them. Will be back! After a gruelling but uneventful 13 hour flight to Singapore with BA we walked from Arrivals (not far at all) to the Crowne Plaza, which was obviously WAY out of Singapore centre, Why oh why Celebrity? It was a lovely hotel but we were a 'captive audience' with no choice of eateries etc. and no chance to see the beauty of the city at night. Bad choice Celebrity! The following morning we were transported to the dock as normal. Embarkation was no trouble. It was lovely to be back on the 'Connie' once again! She was just how we remembered her but now a little tired and in need of a facelift perhaps. We love the layout of this class of Celebrity ship. Not too large to get around and sensible sized lounges etc. (Unlike some of the newer ships we've encountered). Due to the early arrival, the cabin was not ready, no biggie. Spent a while in the buffet with friends who had travelled in from another part of the World. The food was up to the standard we have come to expect from Celebrity and there was plenty of choice. Our cabin was on deck eight and the balcony protruded further than many on the ship. This gave us an uninterrupted view along the length of the vessel. Although a decent size with adequate storage, the cabin appeared somewhat smaller than on the likes of Silhouette, Reflection etc. and again showed some signs of age. Brilliant cabin steward! Our first encounter with the main dining room was quite disappointing it has to be said! The food was quite poorly cooked and tasted as if it been stood under a heat lamp for a while. Not a great start. Sadly it never really improved. Although were persevered with the dining room most evenings, and there were a few very good dishes during the cruise, it was certainly below the standard we have become used to with Celebrity and far short of our experience on Independence of the Seas, last June. The dining room staff and waiters were brilliant, no request was 'too much trouble'. As a musician myself I'm naturally quite critical of the standard of entertainers, musicians etc. on a cruise ship. The bands were of a good standard overall and the 'House Band' that backed most of the guest acts were brilliant. BUT as on most ships, the sound in the theatre was quite poor to my ears. It lacked punch and the bass player might as well have not been there as there was SO little bass content in the mix. Come on cruise lines, stop employing sound engineers with a 'theatre' background and get some rock 'n' roll guys in, your audience is changing! We didn't really see much of the other music acts on board so can't really comment. The guest artistes were all really good apart from a so called Elton John tribute who was dreadful! I've seen much better in the local clubs in the UK. Being of a certain age we didn't get involved in any physical activities on board but really enjoyed the daily quizzes on sea days and the port lectures were very informative, if a little over cautious about going-it-alone in ports. Which brings me on to shore excursions. First port of call was Phuket. We made the choice to take a local tour mini bus from the dock side. What a fabulous decision! The vehicle was brand new and had been 'pimped' to a very high standard inside. A great driver who took us to the Big Buddha (breathtaking) and an area where there were a number of temples/mosques and market stalls, fabulous. He then dropped us at The Hard Rock Cafe later. Phuket, one of the highlights of the trip! Colombo was our next port. We took an excursion via the ship. A brilliant local guide took us to a couple of points of interest including the Independence Memorial Hall and the National museum. Not enough time was given to enjoy the museum! We finished the tour with tea on the veranda at the very upmarket Galle Face Hotel, which was an enjoyable experience. Overall, not a brilliant tour as much of it was spent in the bus in traffic. (to be expected in the this part of the World I guess) so wouldn't do it again. My advice, take a local trip off the dockside. Cochin was next, our first real taste of India and that's what we got! The taste of pollution was with us from the time we hit the dock. (not literally) :) Again we foolishly took a trip via the ship. We were first taken to a ramshackle Shiva temple which was closed! A very unpicturesque building, so little point in taking us there. We then drove to Church of St. Francis, Fort Kochi which in its own way was quite beautiful but drab and fairly uninteresting. Some of the folks then walked to see some Chinese fishing nets which were quite a distance, we didn't bother as we'd seen them previously whilst driving. Which is really what the body of the trip consisted of, driving through traffic, it was hideous! We were so pleased to see the ship again! Don't bother doing that excursion. Which brings me on to Goa, our next port. I'm a collector of Hard Rock Cafe/Hotel pins (badges) so we always endeavour to make it to any HRC in the ports visited. In this case it was a HR Hotel in the Saligao district of Goa. As none of the trips offered on the ship went near to the hotel, we (foolishly) decided to take a private excursion offered by Celebrity Cruises at a cost of $800!!!! We gave them our desired points of interest including the Reis Magos fort, which was recommended to us, plus assorted temples etc. We were quite excited about this tour, a private vehicle, a guide plus wonderful points of interest, what could be better? Most of it basically! The bus was old and rickety, the guide arrived late and the fort was closed! What angered us was, there were bus loads of Constellation guests already in the fort when we arrived (although the fort WAS officially closed on that day) but we were NOT allowed in despite our tour being booked on the ship! We were granted a 10% discount off a future tour and a small refund by the tour desk but this really didn't make up for the pretty poor experience sadly. But at least we had lunch at The Hard Rock Hotel and I bought pins and a tee shirt! We didn't know quite what to expect in Mumbai. Having watched various travelogue progs on TV we had preconceived ideas about India I guess. Our guide was fabulous! She was SO interesting and genuine. In keeping with other ports, the traffic and pollution was excessive, to be expected. We were taken to the Gateway to India (obligatory), the Victorian railway station and Ghandi's house plus a few other sights. Altogether an enjoyable day! We were overnight in Mumbai but didn't go ashore the second day. After a couple of days at sea we arrived in Muscat, Oman. The highlight of the cruise!! Pristine is the word that sums up the city. Not a scrap of rubbish or debris on the streets, beautifully kept road-sides, roundabouts and public places. Our guide on the ship-booked excursion was superb and a really lovely man with SO much knowledge about not only his country but the whole of the middle east in general. We were escorted to the most spectacular Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, about half an hours' drive from Muscat centre. You HAVE to see this if you visit Muscat! We then went to the Mutrah souq where one can buy anything from clothing to lamps. An absolutely wonderful and enriching day! Having looked forward to seeing Dubai (and getting to another Hard Rock Cafe) for a long time, it turned out to be quite disappointing! For a start it was cold and I made the big mistake of travelling in to the centre on the top deck of the bus! The bus we were actually taking the tour on was picked up at a terminus outside the Dubai Mall. Chaos reigned there with people trying to jump the queue to get out of the cold wind. After already losing an hour of our day we managed to get on the bus and begin the rather tedious tour of Dubai. SO many road works and building sites. The traffic was hideous (I believe I've used that word before). We didn't get off the bus until we arrived at the WAFI Mall where we needed to get a cab to the Hard Rock cafe which is in the Festival City Mall way out of the centre. The cabs are so well priced! Probably our fault but we didn't enjoy our day in Dubai much as we made little effort to see 'the sites' as such, plus it was very cold. Maybe return someday? Our final destination and point of departure was Abu Dhabi, a day later. As we were there overnight we thought we would be able to take a walk around parts of the city after being dropped off at the hotel. NAH! Once again Celebrity had decided to stick us in the Novotel Al Bustan out near the airport! Why Celebrity?? It was a super hotel though and we were able to get a cab to a nearby mall to eat and do a little last minute shopping, as you do. The downside was, we had to leave the hotel at 4am as we were flying from (you guessed it) Dubai, where we had been a day earlier!! No problems at the airport as we were there before the cleaners had finished their work having taken only an hour and a quarter to drive from Abu Dhabi. A lovely breakfast at Giraffe Cafe, Terminal 1 was very welcome. Such a shame the HRC Dubai Airport is in Terminal 3 so I couldn't get there. Hey Ho. Summing up (please do)! It was a wonderful cruise on the Celebrity Constellation and we enjoyed most of the experiences both on board and on land. We would highly recommend this cruise if you've not been to this wondrous part of the world. So much culture with some spectacular vistas to behold and remember for the rest of your days on the planet. My advice, for what it's worth, ignore most of the excursions offered on board (expensive and not good value generally) and go for a local mini bus and driver/guide found on the dockside in most ports. Ask to see the bus before committing as they vary widely in age and quality and HAGGLE! We (four people) got a full day tour in a brand new bus in Phuket for $150 US. Wonderful memories! Read Less

We loved the itinerary of this cruise. Singapore embarkation was quick and luggage delivered to our room. Our Balcony cabin 8031 was spacious with enough closet space. However the bathroom mirror fogged up after the shower. We reported it to the house keeping and front desk. After 3 service call the repairman couldn't fix the problem indicating the problem with their exhaust system of the ship. I am a vegetarian the first few days the food was very skimpy, after speaking to Restaurant manager the problem was fixed. The dining room staff Elias and Johnson were friendly and very efficient. Our room attendant Daria is very sweet and always asked about our comfort. The shows are excellent. Overall it was a good cruise, hope celebrity will replace this ship with a newer one. Shore Excursion we took Colombo, Goa, Muskat and Dubai excursion. Most of the excursions were city tours. The tours were OK. Overall thecruise was average due to creeky old ship. Read Less

WE took this cruise because we were interested in the ports of call. If we had known in advance that HAL was only interested in the passengers going of EXC tours we wouldn't have taken this cruise. Most of the stops we out of the way at some large container port. The cruise director failed to inform us in advance about possible shuttles our of the port. At some of the ports they offered no free shuttle and you could only get out by expensive taxi. As 5 star mariners we have known better cruises with HAL. When in Hongkong they forgot to inform their staff that ONLY the people who went to Macau were not allowed to get off the ship after returning from Macau. We still had half a day left to explore. After a big row with the staff the cruise direction eventually gave out a message that we could leave the ship again. Bad work!!! The entertainment was not exsistent or poor except for the Chinese lady playing the accordeon.On seadays there was NO entertainment except talks for the EXC people. There was no music band on the deck and elevator music played the same music every day. Our cabin was good and spacious as it was a suite and the staff their usual friendly self. Everything was clean. As there were many people with bad cold including me we expected staff to make sure people didn't touch the food or fill their water bottles at the macine themselves.This did not happen. What happened to the coctail party for the past mariners? We didn't get one invitation although we are 5 star.All in all I would say this was not the best cuise we have been on. The main reason we chose this ship was the itinerary. we were pleasantly surprised to find the ship had been refurbished and we were the first passengers to benefit .We had an outside cabin 2082,which was lovely. It was refurbished to a very high standard with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space and kingside bed. The bathroom was beautiful too with a power shower .We were midship deck 2 and it was quiet. The ship is not too big and therefore friendly, it had a homely feel about it, beautiful but not too glitzy. I was slightly disappointed with the evening entertainment,no West End shows that I have seen on other cruise ships. The exception were Sonz Of Soul who were brilliant They even took time out after the show to have pictures took with the passengers. The food in the dining room was lovely but a bit repetitive, with the same choices every night Some nights the service was slow too. We chose to eat in the self service restaurant a couple of evenings where the food lovely with lots of choice. The dress code was chic,which meant smart,without being too formal,although you could dress up as much as you wanted without feeling out of place. If you chose not to dress up you could eat in the self service dining room instead. We did 3 excursions,all good,especially the one in Nha Trang,where we visited Buddhist Temples. The captain was very funny and joined in when he could. he cruise Director was very good too He did a talk about his life, he came across as a very kind and compassionate man. What can I say, from the moment we got to our stateroom which had no electricity it felt like deck 9 was not completed. We were offered a stateroom on deck 10 only to find someone else’s case on the bed and their shoes at the side of the bed. We duly reported this and was told that’s not possible, not nice to be doubted, the room had not been allocated to anyone. The paintwork on the balcony was rough, not painted properly. The bedside lamp never worked, the air conditioning needed altered as the air was warm, the bathroom door was very squeaky, we had no toiletries for two days. The standard type lamp switch was too high. We ordered room service for between 7-7.30 expecting it around 7.15 am, when it didn’t arrive by 7.30 am, I phoned and said it was too late. We got a phone call five minutes later to say it was on its way but I cancelled it, I’m not sure where the tray would go as we didn’t have a table. We dined in Blu every evening and enjoyed it. We went to the Spa for a sauna but unfortunately it wasn’t working, we thought we would relax on the tiled heated seat, it didn’t work either, these were working on our next visit and we enjoyed it. The entertainment was good but not enough staff to take orders for drinks, we ordered one night, had our passes brought back but never got a drink. The first day off the ship was a joke, the queue to get into the theatre went right back through the casino and round again. The next time leaving the ship this was sorted and more like what you would expect. The self service restaurant didn’t have enough staff, I was difficult to try and get a refreshment, the layout wasn’t good, especially if like me you only wanted some bread and cold cuts, I was a bit anxious encase I couldn’t find my husband as it was very busy. The excursions were good but the buses lacked decent seatbelts or none at all. We were on the Equinox in May last year and it was excellent, we were very disappointed in the Millennium, the staff didn’t seem to have gelled, the room attendant missed emptying the bins in the bathroom at night, only occasionally we got a chocolate left on our pillow, no fruit, then there was no table to put it on. We were lucky about the minor details we experienced, others were not so lucky. I will travel again as we received a voucher for a future cruise but at the prices quoted it might not get used. My favorite is always the production numbers and Secret Silk was outstanding. I would have liked the others to be a bit longer. The ship seemed to have issues. There were a number of leaks with buckets around to catch the water. There were power issues in some of the rooms. Our dining experience is always good. The food was varied and prepared to order. The wait staff was attentive, courteous and friendly. They seemed to enjoy their work. The shore excursions were awful. We only did 2 and that was too many. The experience was terrible. Everything seemed to be very unorganized. We did private tours in most ports and had great experiences. I love Princess and will continue to sail with them. I hope this was just a fluke. Read Less

The ship has gotten old and run down. It should be taken out of service. The cabin was nothing special, run of the mill outside cabin. The food in the dining room was was way below average, worse in the buffet. Not as much selection, and the quality well below Holland America standards. The entertainment was sub par whenever there was any. Mostly movies and talks. This was an EXC cruise. Don't go on these cruises. The service was below Holland America standards. The excursions were expensive and not worth the price. Many passengers hired a taxi for half the price. In our opinion, Holland America standards have depreciated considerably. We did a Celebrity cruise after the Maasdam. Infinitly better. Read Less

I had previous cruises on large ships and thought it would be a change to try a small ship cruise in parts of Asia I had not visited. The Aegean Odyssey cruise from Singapore to Colombo seemed to fit the bill. The 21 day cruise included 2 nights stay in a hotel at Singapore. Checking into the ship was complicated by the fact that we did not secure the Indian visa for the stopover at Port Blair but we were allowed to board after we signed a waiver to leave the ship at Yangon and make our own way to Colombo. I had phoned with the travel agency on whether it is permissible to remain on board the ship during the stopover at Port Blair without the costly visa and the reply was that it should be all right. Our ocean view cabin was comfortable. The bathroom was small but clean and functional. As noted by other reviewers, the water in the bathroom is frequently rust coloured enough to stain white clothes if you need to wash them. One night a water pipe burst and flooded the carpets on the fourth level so we were without a flushing toilet for close to 24 hours. Entertainment was limited to some lectures on the culture of the far east. During the cruise on the Strait of Malacca the captain warned that we were in pirate territory and as precaution to close the curtains at night to limit visibility of the ship. Food was acceptable and service in the dinning rooms was excellent.. Service was excellent all around. Shore excursions, aside from introductory tours of each stopover, involved long travel times in buses or boats to sites of interest. Enough said; there are better choices available for cruising in Asia. Read Less

This was the perfect trip for us as we wanted to get a taste of the Far East to enable us to decide where we wanted (and didn't want) to go next. Because the incoming boat was late arriving due to bad weather, we were very late embarking. We had to wait in the terminal for about five hours and didn't board until 9pm. There was nothing to do in the terminal although some biscuits and cake were eventually sent from the ship. Once we boarded it would have been nice if some gesture of apology was made (a glass of wine maybe) but nothing. We were very tired and didn't want to go anywhere for dinner. We tried many times over the course of the next hour to get room service but the phone number was constantly busy. We went to bed on the few crisps and a chocolate bar we found in our luggage. When we wandered around the ship the next day we were very pleasantly surprised by the standard of the public rooms. All of the staff we encountered, including those at the customer service desk were very pleasant and well trained. We had chosen anytime dining and although we read we could reserve a table as it operated just like a restaurant that wasn't strictly true. When we called to book a table we were always given either a 5.30 or 7.30 slot (the same times as regular dining). If we wanted any other time, we just had to turn up at the dining room of our choice. All of the dining rooms were elegant and well appointed. We went to tea once in the Santa Fe dining room and this was a very strange affair. The waiters were beautifully attired, down to white gloves. We were given a plate and a choice of tea - first along came a waiter with an assortment of filled small rolls and immediately afterwards another waiter with scones, jam and cream and yet another waiter with cakes. So even before I had started eating I had a small plate with a cheese and tomato roll, scone, jam and cream plus a cake. All on one plate!!!!! We didn't go again. My biggest disappointment was the entertainment, both in the theatre and around the ship. The resident band was simply awful and drowned out the guest pianist, there was a female singer who was excellent but she was the exception. I think the worst was a balloon person - you know the sort of thing - the person who makes balloon animals at a children's party. I thought I had gone to hell when I noticed that one of the activities during the day was a 'Men's sexy legs competition'. 60 years ago I went to Butlins with my grandparents and saw a knobby knees competition - not much different. The trivia and competitions that seemed to be on every day were very amateurish and aimed at the lowest common denominator. Read Less

This cruise went in and out of Singapore. All wheelchair access cabins from Fremantle (our home port) were booked to 2020 for school holiday periods. Singapore is a direct flight, 5 hours from Perth about the same as flying to Brisbane. The cruise itinerary was perfect for Mum and Dad, lots of ports where they could see all the bustle from their balcony. Dad spent a lot of time on the balcony or in the cabin listening to the sea. He could get to a bar easily from his cabin with his walker. Getting to restaurants was much more difficult as they were much further from the cabin. He did build stamina getting to dinner every night. The restaurants had good meals and great service. A couple of times they realised the helpings for a dish might be a bit small for our teenage boys and offered and supplied something more. They also kept topping up the bread rolls for them. We mostly went to the buffet for breakfast and Dad had breakfast in the cabin. For lunch, we sat near one of the pools and got a selection from the buffet, pizza and burger places. Going around the buffet, after the walk there, was too much for Mum and Dad. But what about the electric wheelchair? Well, we booked one just like the one Mum uses at home through Special Needs at Sea Group (SNG). It would be delivered to her stateroom and there for her on arrival. It needed to be left in the stateroom on departing the ship after 10 days. All sorts of penalties for us in the paperwork if we weren't there, if we didn't get everything right. BUT IT WASN'T THERE. No electric wheelchair. Princess Cruises knew it should be there but were having trouble contacting Special Needs at Sea. We left without it. We hoped it would be at the next port. It wasn't. SNG could only be contacted through the night because of the time difference. My nights were spent emailing and ringing SNG to find out when and where we would be getting our electric wheelchair. Eventually, nearly a week into a 10 day cruise, they said we wouldn't be getting one. This meant that Mum was left with me pushing her around in the wheelchair we had brought for getting to and from the airports. She could not move it around by hand (arthritis in hands and shoulders) any more than she can walk. I had to take her to the toilet all through the day. Shore excursions could be no more than 2 hours for me or she would have an accident. The cruise would have been wonderful for the whole family to spend quality time together if the electric wheelchair (powerchair) had been supplied by SNG as promised. This wrecked the cruise for us. It wasn't as though we could just get off and go home which was what we wanted to do. Read Less
