We recently did a nineteen day cruise on this ship from Singapore. We found it to have consistently poor management in all food areas and at the bars. Many staff appeared unhappy which really affected our cruise. Didn’t find the Cruise Director approachable probably our worst of all our twenty plus cruises. Found the staff in the buffet to be lazy, standing around talking to each other and rudely laughing and commenting on passengers demeanour, appalling behaviour. Food on outside decks never changed in nineteen days. Really disappointed that NCL have highly visible sign on the pool deck saying towels on deck and on seating at tables tables would be collected after an hour on non use. This didn’t happen and we sat at a table several times and watched people not appear for up to three hours. People just left towels to reserve ‘their’ seats which was totally against the ships policy. Very disappointed to never once see a staff member take a towel off a seat. No sense having a policy if it’s not enforced.so only once The positives were music/entertainment was good, clean shop. Some fantastic staff and we met some lovely people. Nice meals and service at specialty restaurants. Read Less

From the time we lined up to get on the ship for over 2 hours we knew we were in trouble. Then they took our passports everyone was freaking out not to be returned till end of cruise. We splurged and got a mini suite aft what a waste of money. The bathroom has a bath but its very high and narrow i have bad knees and it was a struggle my husband is 6'6 and he had to bend over to wash his hair. Bed was big very firm no extras at all . Food was fantastic we ate in Cagneys, Teppanyaki and La Bistro all amazing food and staff. Buffet was excellent great selection, lovely out door area at the back to have breakfast. Drinks good get a food and drink package we did. Water very expensive, coffee ok and cheap. We were on 7 days and only had 2 shows they were spectacular but you need that every night. Bingo big rip off costs double the other companies. Nothing ever runs on time and there was very little to do during the day. Staff had there moments and some didn't understand or didnt want to. Will never go near Norwegian again . No gluten free desserts or food only bread in dining room. Specialty restaurants offered g/f options. On this cruise everything was a fair distance no assistance offered from jewel. Read Less

Cabin smallest we had ever had, cabin steward hard to comment on as we only saw him a couple of time's but he was very pleasant when we did bump into him . Trips so overpriced we actually cancelled them all apart from the first one (Phuket) and did our own thing from then on for easily a quarter of the price being asked for by NCL, we were very lucky that another passenger mentioned this to us, Something I would recommend to everybody! Entertainment in the evening on two particular nights was excellent and would have happily paid to see them in the West End but the rest was pretty mediocre. We dined on 3 separate nights in Speciality restaurants being Cagney's, Moderno Churrascaria, & La Cucina. Cagneys was excellent, Moderno was also very good, but would not rate La Cucina (poor menu choice and food was only luke warm and not particularly appetising). The main restaurants were reasonable apart from the food when it reached us was nearly always lukewarm, but have to say the staff were on the whole lovely. With so many cruise lines to choose from would we go with NCL again it is very debatable as overall impression was of a company putting profit over the wellbeing of their customers, especially as the life boat drill was a farce and I have never seen anything like it on any other cruise line, heaven help us if there had been an emergency!! Our first cruise outside North America. We had ultimate beverage package, and 3 specialty dinners. We are late 50s and on this cruise probably were among the “younger passengers “. The weather was great during entire week. The service level and food is not as good as in bigger NCL ships and in the US. Some of the Waiters and Bar staff were not exactly rude but certainly not friendly either. Same goes for the cabin service. We dined twice in teppanyaki restaurant which we knew to be very good. Complimentary restaurants for dinner were not good which we also knew from previous experience. Garden cafe selection is wide enough to get something nice to eat during day time. Salad selection could have been wider. The Ship is nice and well kept/ renovated. Very clean. Evening show was excellent, much better than what we have seen before on other NCL ships. Besides the main show in the evenings the ship seemed to be fairly quiet , meaning no one was keeping the show in the pool area or other public areas. Band was occasionally playing. There was a piano in the main atrium but did not see anyone playing it. We did one shore excursion, Panoramas of Kuala Lumpur. It was Ok, local guide Rose was good. There were surprisingly many delays and changes in sailing schedule and no obvious reason (for ex weather). In general this was a nice cruise for a couple who likes reading books in quiet but if you’re a party animal you might be bored. Read Less

It was a very disappointment. Overpriced liquor, A beer was charged $9 dollars. tasteless food. very poor quality menu, If you like dry fish, they are abundant on the dinner menu, No lobster served. The prime rib was so thin, it looks like roast beef on a mount of mash potatoes. There is a chinese optional restaurant on the ship. It was the worst chinese food I ever had. Frozen chinese food from the market tasted better. I ordered the Hot and sour soup, which is very easy to make. I tasted it and spit it out. It was that bad. The dumplings were just as bad. The dumplings at Trader Joe taste much better that this. Be aware. We had a balcony room and it was so small that we can not walk around the same time . the public areas were remodeled and decent looking The service on the ship was decent. Servers were nice and polite. Choose a different Cruise line !!! Read Less

We had never cruised with NCL before but will definitely go with them again! Having boarded in Singapore, we could not believe how well the ship's crew catered for such a broad range of clients! The food was terrific and although we usually avoid the buffet, we actually loved it for therange and quality of food offered. The steakhouse restaurant was delicious too! We booked one shore excursion with the ship which was comparable in cost to the other twoI had booked independently for other ports. The standard of entertainment was fantastic! Again, nailed it as far as appealing to many different cultures and ages on board. Although this was an older ship to some of the ones we have been on before, it was impeccably maintained and the ambience in the smaller restaurants and bars was spot on. This was also smaller than some of the other ships we have experienced which gave it a more personal feel. Definitely recommend this trip to others! Read Less

In 2017 we sailed on the Norwegian Getaway, in the Haven, and it was terrific. Everything went well. But, this year we chose the Jewel for the itinerary and it was not even in the same league as the Getaway (again, we were in the Haven). Started out trying to get onboard. Should have had "priority" check-in. Took about 6 agents before someone actually knew there was a priority check-in line and where it was. The Jewel had a "mini-Haven" (no restaurant or lounge) but we knew that in advance. Had a special place for breakfast and lunch but not for dinner or a bar. Turned out to be a bigger deal than we thought. The TV rarely worked correctly. Even the ship navigation page had the wrong information on it to include time of day - which was kind of important since we crossed time zones twice. The TV does not have an account status page and that was a real downer. Communications delivered to the cabin were often incorrect or conflicting. It was like the ship staff did not communicate with the hotel staff. The sundry shop was part of the duty free store so you could not get a pack of aspirin when you were in port. But, the worst thing was the internet. We bought the all-you-can-eat package since one of us had to connect with work during the cruise. The internet was so slow the VPN timed out before it could make a connection. Could not get to email because comcast streams videos so they blocked comcast. BUT, we tried to book two future cruises (on a different ship) and they could not do it because their internet was too slow!!! However, the staff was outstanding! Even better than the year prior and I didn't think that was possible. Read Less

Lots of issues This is the worst experience we had with NCL. A/C not working, hot water & cold change during shower, shower door jam would not close, problem with ship engine, not getting to port on schedule and leaving early, staffs not train (service terrible). for example, the waiter pour coffee for our friends but forget to pour it for us. In the past, our room were service for 3 times a day, on this cruise skip the morning service. We spoke with a lot of guests on this cruise, they also also indicated NCL have cut back on their service. Over all we had a bad experience. we were hoping for some compensation but no offer of compensation were made. No A/C in rm for hrs. No TV for couple days. Staff not trained, poor service. Rm cleaned late afternoon. No Port talks given and little info on ship. Arrive Ports late and cuts. Worst cruise experience! Read Less

We have cruises in this area twice already now with an alternative line, and have also been on NCL Jade twice over the years Post dry dock the new look and feel of the ship is excellent. It feels fresh and really like the “toned down” decor. The introduction of the Irish bar in particular is a great thing, and was a good central hub of activity right above the atrium We found the food to be excellent in Main Dining Room, such that we didn’t use specialty restaurants at all (we usually would do several times in a week). Generally service from the staff was excellent Smooth weeks sailing too.... so all very positive HOWEVER, there were some issues 1. Boarding at Singapore was a fiasco. We got off lightly with 2 hours of waiting and queuing, but some fared worse than we did. I’d have expected some niggles maybe as it was first run since dry dock, but the embarkation staff clearly didn’t have a clue how to process passengers and this created a huge backlog. 2. I suspect there were some “niggles” post dry dock. Our Air Condifioning wasn’t really working on arrival, it took 4 contacts including a late night (1am) rant at Guest Services to get any improvement. It did improve eventually but given the climate in that region I’d hardly call the cabin a sanctuary to rest and cool down as it usually is on board 3. MASSIVE failure in Kuala Lumpur. I’ve no idea what or why but literally just before getting off on day 1 we were told due to “operational issues with immigration in Singapore” our departure on day 2 had to be brought forward from 14:00 to 09:00. We had booked a hotel to stay off board that night, that plan was totally ruined given the distance from city to port made it to pressured in the morning. When we did depart on day 2 the ship limped along at barely any speed, so I am not sure why we couldn’t have stayed longer - I really suspect something undisclosed was the issue that forced us to leave early on the highlight stop of the trip Overall we had a good time (British couple, mid 30s). The demographic on board was older and far more British than we are used to with NCL, and this affected the atmosphere on board. The “white hot party” was rubbish basically compared to others we have done, and the Cruise Director and his staff were rarely seen in the week (we didn’t do any shows, guess he was hiding there) So overall NCL severly let themselves down with this one. Great refreshed ship, food and service - but cruising is a huge experience holiday where logistics matter, and NCL failed completely throughout the week with this Read Less

seemed a good price for what was offered, 4 of us booked together for the south east asia cruise, asking for cabins at least on the same deck as we have always had on previous events cruises with ncl, royal caribbean and p and o. well we were at the front on deck 5 and our friends were aft on deck 8. we spoke to infinity cruises who we booked through, the paperwork and organisation for infinity leaves a lot to be desired(at one time we had 2 extra people on our booking we had never heard off) they said it was the fault of ncl, ncl said it was infinity’s fault but offered to upgrade us for £700 per person(they must have thought that we would be happy to be ripped off) eventually we boarded the jewel, cafe and restaurant staff were top quality, customer services were also excellent as were the bar staff, food really good. trying to get a seat in the garden cafe at times was impossible, spent a lot of time wandering round trying to find seats. shore excursion staff had no idea about the places we were visiting, and got the feeling one of the staff was full of his own importance. communication was awful, the morning announcement over the speaker system was next to useless as you could not hear a word in the garden cafe, thought a member of staff would have told someone. the cabin was noisy, window was misted up so did not see a lot sometimes, the housekeeper i think did his own thing, 15 20 on 2 days before the room was made up, think he had difficulty getting up in the morning, was not the best housekeeper we have had by a mile. towards the end they ran out of some draught and bottled bears, and soft drinks. the organisation for the trips was chaos with everyone queuing up to wait in the theatre at once. we were told to collect our passports between 5 am and 7 am (yes 5am 7am) on the day we disembark, but then changed their minds and made it after 2pm the day we were in. altogether we have cruise 6 times with ncl, but this ship seemed dysfunctional with no coordination, will not go with ncl again, or will we book through infinity. i must say that the entertainment was first class. We did back to back to back Sydney to Yokohama so this review is for the Singapore to Hong Kong part of the cruise. By this time we had had a poor experience Sydney to Singapore. Luckily the Hotel Director Claus left the ship and a new one arrived - Stephen - who was much better. He immediately realised that he had inherited a poor cruise and set about changes which improved the quality of the experience, arranging back to back events and generally sorting out the tendering and port arrangements. We had a much better experience, back to the usual standard we expect from NCL. The ship is in need of a refurb - planned - but generally the experience was good. Cabin was good for an inside. Steward good. Most of the crew were excellent, a few poor experiences but thats how it goes. Entertainment could be improved substantially - 'Dan the Man' not quite the invisible man as he can be but he was also new (from Sydney) so perhaps inherited a poor plan. Our own planned shore excursions were great, NCLs not so and the onboard team needs to be broken up and refreshed. Read Less

We have sailed on Norwegian many times. I really enjoy the Jewel Class ships. When I saw this itinerary I was excited. The ship itself is showing its wear but I believe it is up for dry dock after it goes to Alaska this season. You couldn't beat the itinerary. We started in Singapore has two stops in Thailand and three in Vietnam before ending on Hong Kong. I had done some research on the port before we started so I know most of them were industrial and we would need to be bused to any sightseeing or cities. Knowing this going in was helpful. This isn't like the Caribbean where you can just walk off the ship and everything is there. We did ship tours for all the stop except Bangkok. We were glad we had ship tour for the tender ports. No worry about getting tender tickets and making it to your private excursions. NCL did a good job with the tours themselves. The guides spoke very good English. We heard some private tours were not easy to understand. We however could have been provided water on the excursions. We were told we could not take water off the ship and were not offered any during the tour or be directed where to buy some. It was hot so water was essential. The nightly shows were top notch. There were two Burn the Floor performances. I was surprised at that because I thought they were only on the Breakaway class ships. I was a bit disappointed in the nightly cruise staff directed game shows. I generally really enjoy them and they seemed to be lacking on this ship. It was an older crowd so I understand the evening entertainment was directed towards them but the pace of the entertainment other than the nightly theater show was very slow. The food on the ship was good. I wouldn't say gourmet but that wasn't my expectation. We ate at Cagney's and Modero with our Latitudes benefit. Generally we don't pay for the specialty restaurants and would not have if it had not been free. If you are meat eater Modero and Cagney's is pretty good. I really enjoy their salad bar and sides. But for us paying extra for it is just not worth it. For some it probably is. We never had to wait at the main dining room. We generally ate about 6PM. We saw lines a little later but it appeared to be moving quickly. Overall it was a great trip. We enjoyed see all the different cultures at all the ports. We have already booked our next cruise with NCL. I know these ports were new to them so they were learning how to navigate. I give the staff props for getting out passports back to us the night before the cruise ended. They cleared customs with Hong Kong on the ship so basically we got our luggage and walked off the ship. We chose 5his cruise because of the itinerary. Asia. We started in Singapore. Embarkation was easy and quick. Lunch in the dining room seemed to take forever, but since 5he cabins weren’t ready, it didn’t really matter. We found out at that time that no bread is served with lunch entrees unless you ask for it. Dinner was supposed to start at 5, but because of the life boat drill, the room wasn’t set up until almost 6. It would have been nice if one of the many staff coming and going would have mentioned that. The second day on board, we went to lunch in the dining room and got the same menu as the first day. We told our server about it thinking it was a mistake. She said the lunch in the dining room is always the same. But since there are several dishes to choose from, that makes it different. We ate in the buffet from then on. The buffet was almost as bad or maybe worse when you consider that nothing was really fresh, except the fruit. Grilled cheese sandwiches were made one day for breakfast. All of them on display were hard and cold. I asked if they had new ones. The server opened a cooler door and pulled out already grilled cheese sandwiches and gave me one. It was not crisp or even warm. Many of the buffet dishes were like that; pre-made and stored until needed. They didn’t even rotate items. They just filled in the empty slots with items they pulled out of storage. Plus everything was the same day after day with about 8 items that changed depending on the theme of the day. Very disappointing. Our room was ok. Bed sagged in the middle and was a little lumpy. I slept ok on most nights. Our cabin steward did a good job cleaning our room, but e often didn’t get around to us until late morning. Most times our room was not turned down until well after dinner. Since the entertainment was only so so most nights, that meant we either had to leave the room again, or skip turn down service. Burn the Floor and Le Cirque Bijou were AWESOME!, the best shows we’ve ever seen on a cruise ship. The rest of the entertainment was typical cruise ship singing, comedy and magic. Things to do during the day included things like sexy leg contest, trivia and bingo. They tried to do a painting class, but the instructors didn’t really have the experience to teach the class. There was no help or guidance. The subjects were too complicated and the time limit too short for beginner painters. People didn’t tend to sign up twice. Too bad because I was looking forward to that. The rest of the things to do involved either spending money or dumbing yourself down to actually enjoy. Things like the not so newly wed game was just an attempt to humiliate yourself to win a t-shirt. Not what I call fun. We took a shore excursion to visit a castle in Kyoto Japan, plus a pagoda. The write up sounded like something we’d like. After all, it’s a UNESCO site. Well, it was a 2 hour bus ride to the first site. Along the way our guide tried to engage us in learning more about the places we were going to see, but her accent was so pronounced that we could only interpret one word out of 4. About half of our bus was German, so they talked when she talked making that much harder to hear her. The castle was just an old wooden square separated by painted panels into square rooms. It might have meant more if we had time to read the placques next to each room. NCL had at least 10 buses doing this trip, so the castle was crowded. I got shoved many times during our visit. Lunch, however, was Amazing! It was another boring 2 hour ride back to the ship. Overall, the tour was not worth the time and definitely not worth the money. We are Platinum Plus latitudes reward members. We have seen the experience of cruising with NCL go from excellent to average. We’d say they’re a half step up from Carnival cruises. That may change since we’ve heard that Carnival is improving. We have no plans to sail with NCL again. Read Less

Loved it! We have never cruised before and, although l was sea sick for most of the time, we had no issues with the boat or the staff. Lovely staff who couldn't do enough for my family, especially my 5 year old twins. My girls attended the Kids Club, but as there were not many children on board, most of the programs did not run as scheduled. More than enough entertainment to keep you busy each day. We only have 4 sea days, but l never felt bored. I was ore than happy though l use the pool or sit on one of the chairs on the promenade. I heard one couple complain that water was not included in the drinks package, but considering that you could walk down to a bar and grab an ice cold water at any time, l didn't see how that was a big deal. They also mentioned that coffees from the cafe were not included, but l wasn't a fan of the coffees there so that wouldn't bother me! My husband and l were a bit worried about the quality of the food, especially in the buffer (as the videos that we had seen online did not make the food look very appealing) but the restaurants including the Garden Cafe buffet were excellent. Always fresh and so much to chose from. If you could find something that liked to eat, then you weren't trying! We particularly loved Azura's restaurant, excellent food and wonderful service. Our cabin was an inside stateroom. It was only small, as expected but more than enough room to sit around a watch tv. We had a quad room, it there were 2 single beds (pushed together to make a double), a fold down single from the wall and a roll out single. More than enough room! And who wants to sit in their room anyway!!! Overall, l would definitely recommend this boat and particularly this itinerary to others. The countries we visited are some of my favourites (Vietnam, Thailand) and we would happily cruise with NCL again! Thankyou to everyone for a great trip!!! Read Less
