Chose this cruise because the dates and the embarkation port were convenient for me. That is the good stuff out of the way, and the rest was downhill. The fact that drinking water is not provided free on a cruise in such a hot region tells you all you need to know. in 21 days only one of the two ice machines worked and then only for one day. No water provided with evening meal and no tea or coffee afterwards. Menus poor and reconstituted potato used. Drinks packages were a complete rip off. Passports were taken on day one, and only a photocopy given out (too late to be useful in some cases). When we went to Langkawi we found that the duty free shops would not allow sales unless the photcopy was shown but we had not received ours. So after a hot and sweaty trip back to the ship - queueing at the info desk to receive a copy, then a further hot and sweaty trip back to the shop - I finally managed to buy some perfume, but the whole process took half of the day we were there. Then the final insult, a photocopy (second one) was delivered to my cabin half an hour before the ship sailed out. I was given the WRONG advice about the mandatory visa for India and so paid out £140 for a two year visa instead of a £40 short term stay visa. The disembarkation port was Savona, Italy, where the ship was going into dock for a 12 day maintenance period, but we still had to vacate the cabin by 8 am and then sit in the theatre until 11.30 waiting for our transfer coach. No laundries on board and the cabin laundry service was EXPENSIVE. Would never book with COsta again. Read Less

They say you get what you pay for, but even at the great price they were offering, you got a lot LESS that what you paid for on this cruise. As an adult I have been on more than 100 cruises and as a teenager my father was a cruise ship captain. This cruise was by far the bottom of the barrel. The crew is so over worked, that there is no way they can provide good service. The biggest thing the ship needs to do is get less senior officers and more workers. There are more than enough officers standing around doing nothing while there was a shortage of people to do the work They even charge for water. On every other ship we have been on, you could always go some where to get water, tea or coffee at no charge. If you want water at dinner, no problem either pay per glass or purchase a water package. The food in the dinning rooms and buffet was so bad that it forced you go to the for pay dinning rooms. The terms planning, organization, and logic have totally evaded this ship. Our tours (that we did not book with the ship) were great and we plan to visit many of the ports again on another cruise line. In the disembarkation talk the crew speaker spent over 10 minutes telling us why we should give them 10s on the survey because the problems were not the fault of the crew. In short, stay away from the Victoria and Costa in general. Read Less

We had chosen this cruise because of the nice weather and the price was ok for us. We did a cruise with Costa Neoclassica from Savona to India in November 2017 and that one was beautiful. All our cruises with Costa were nice. We exprerienced more than 10 cruises, but this cruise was a disaster. It was the last cruise of this ship Victoria, it sailed from Asia to Europe and to be refurbished in Marseille to sail in Europe in the next future. The Italian animation team was very much to loud, the whole day they screemed on the deck. The refurbisment was already started. The carpet was already pulled loose, the stairs were already disassembled and sanded, the tenderboats were already sanded, the ceilings already came down, the chairs were already re-upholstered. All day you heard knocking, sawing, sanding, carpentry and so on. The workmen in black and white suits were busy all day. The quality of the food was in the first week ok, but the last two weeks terrible, old frozen food, no variety, cheap food unmade. I think the freezers had to be empty before the cruises ended. The dinner lasted 2.5 hours, there was far too little staff, between the various dishes we had to wait half an hour. Food appeared that you had not ordered, or it did not come at all. At 8 o'clock in the morning most of the chairs were already occupied with towels and personal belongings. Passengers occupied the seats all day long, although sometimes they were not there for hours. Costa did nothing. For me NEVER COSTA AGAIN. Read Less

We selected this cruise because of the itinery and price. We wanted to try an asian cruise this time, and not that many options are available departing from Singapore. Royal Caribbean was much more expensive and had a less attractive itinery. Costa Victoria is old. Built in 1996, and is by current standards a small ship. This would however not have to be only a disadvantage. A small ship can have its advantages. Unfortunatelly that was not the case with Costa Victoria. The decor of the ship is just uggly and would really need an upgrade. There's plenty of space on deck, but not enough deck chairs forcing people to simply place the towels on the fake "grass" floor, and the "solarium" in the forward of the ship needs at least a jacuzzi or something to relieve the main pool area. We we're upgraded from an inside to an outside cabin which was a very nice surprise! The outside cabins which comes with only a porthole window. The cabin is very small and the orange colors are not pleasant. No seating are is available so oyu have to sit in the bed to view TV. The bathroom is fine though. The dining options available are the absolute basics. It's either the buffet, or the main dining rooms. The buffet has 4 parallel lines, but only one is serving the grilled meat/fish why all people needs to queue in this line. For lunch the poolside of the buffet is serving burgers. unfortunatelly not tasty at all :(. No pizza or ice cream was available at all which suprised me on an italian ship. The MDR has two seatings, no flexible time dining. The gala dinner was rather good, but most other days the food was below standards. We shared dinner table with people from Scottland, Italy, Russia, Ukrain and Slovakia (we're from Sweden). Exiting, but not practial since not all could speak the same language. There was about 25 other Swedes onboard the ship and some british/americans which would have been much better for us to dine with for language reasons. The "theater" is more like a normal show room in 2 levels. 2 of the shows, one italian tenor and one acrobatic show was good, the other dance shows was boring. When we embarked costa took our passports and said they we're going to keep it for the entire cruise. I tried to understand why, but no one could answer me. They just said "this is how Costa always do", however, I have been with Costa 2 times before and they have not taken my passport. The day before disembarkation we had to queue to get them back. I then noticde the passports had been stamped by Thai and Cambodian customs. So maybe this was the reason for collecting them, but it would have felt better if this information was provided to us prior to embarkation. Btw, we was informormed just days before the cruise that a mandatory fee of $40 per person was going to be applied for Cambodian Visa (also applicable if not disembarking the ship). This shold have been made clear when booking the cruise, or better, including in the cruise price. Cruising is always a pleasurable way to travel, and even with the bare minimum of the cruise experience the Costa Victoria provides I find it worth the money paid. But for sure there shold be a significant difference in price, or much better itinery if I would choce costa again for my future cruises. Read Less

If you want a good cruise, I suggest leave Costa well alone. We hated everything, from embarkation procedure to disembarkation. Couldn't wait to get off. I suggest the management go on cruises with their competitors and learn how to run a cruise line and treat guests. I probably don't have enough space to write all our complaints, but here's some. Our cabin had an interconnecting door with the next cabin and it may as well have been open, as we could hear next door talking and the guy snoring all night, so we hardly got any sleep. We asked to be moved, but were told the ship was full. It had 1500 people out of space for 1900! The food was absolutely dreadful, both in the dining room and in the buffet. Full of butter, cream, cheese or all of them. The meat was so overcooked, you could hardly cut it. After breakfast, you could not get a free cup of coffee. My wife is dairy intolerant and the staff from the chef down, couldn't care less. The Italian staff were generally rude, the other staff, excellent. Eve, the English rep on board was 10/10. She helped any way she could, but was up against "company policy." Which meant, do nothing. Hygiene on board was terrible. Hardly anyone sanitised their hands and there was no policing of it. People filled water bottles beside signs saying don't do this and staff standing beside them, saying nothing. Read Less

Greatly recommend to those who are keen to go for a cruise managed by a poor management who always put on an "unhappy" face on all their cruise with no proper instructions given and when questions were raised by their guest to their crew, the standard reply was "I don't know, please check with another crew.". Also if you do not wish that the crew to enter your cabins, do remember to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign at your door as our room was entered multiple times for no particular reasons even though we didn't call for housekeeping and we realised that our laptop had been touched ( as we left room for a short time to attend their concert, we left our laptop open and when we were back, it was closed and the whole room was pitch dark - even side table lights were offed. ) When asked to the information counter, they said we didn't put "DTD" thus the crews can enter and leave anytime they like. Toilets were filled with moulds at bathing area, beds were stained with black stains even after a housekeeping session done.. Smoke can be smelt along the corridor of the cabins, insufficient kettles available as well. The adapter given by the crew had sparks coming out from it when it was plucked it and when asked for an exchange, the crew said that they ran out of it. Long queues during meal times and there was no one controlling the crowd nor guiding the passengers. Ice cream stall only open for 1 meal throughout the 5 days of cruise. Speciality restaurant does not offer all indicated food items and we were not told before we sat down for our meal. Waste of money. There is 3 eating area for the passengers, however, only 2 is available as 1 is converted to "FOR SUITE" passengers only. We purchased the non-alcoholic beverage package but the crew would keep on telling us that the non-alcoholic drinks are not included and we had to pay extra (don't buy package as they don't honour it). No proper lightings near the swimming pool where some kids are found running in dark as well which is very dangerous. Entertainment were the same for the 5 days. Poor management on disembarkation and embarkation as well as no proper direction nor instructions given, announcement system is also not clear. Overall, its a waste of money and time, both my partner and I are very displeased with the service provided, management control, experience, condition of the cabin and the embarkation and disembarkation process. This is not our first time cruising on a cruise liner but it will be the first time and LAST TIME cruising with COSTA VICTORIA. Read Less

I am eager to write this review in order to increase this cruise rating. After my mom paid for this cruise, she did a bit of research about Costa Victoria. Mostly was awful, so we almost cancelled our cruise and let the money go instead of wasting our time. But it is our last trip with my brother before he went overseas, so we decided to go. And seriously, this is my first cruise and it is AWESOME! well, for me the ship was huge (although they said it's a small ship). Food was FREE (even for semi fine dining version), unlimited and great (especially for indian food), but you have to pay for other premium drinks. the timing was PERFECT (23 Dec at 22.00 until 27 Dec 14.00). I respect all of the crew members that give their best effort to serves us day and night with their best smile to ensure our best experience on cruise (THANK YOU!). The cabin design is old fashioned, but CLEAN, they clean our cabin twice a day. Endless parties and event for sure. Definitely WORTH IT for their value for money. To get this personal, I'm 22 yrs old and I came from Indonesia. Not really the best cruise for my age, but I totally recommend this cruise for FAMILY who had kids around 12 yrs old. Read Less

**Please do not ever take Costa Victoria Ship, Italian Cruises.** My purpose for this post is not to complain, but more of making sure that the public do not get the same poor experience as I did. I went with my family (as a group of 20) and here is a brief summary of what happened in the 4d3n cruise experience (Starting from the most pertinent problem to trivial ones) 1. Bedbugs Upon entering the cabin, my cousin and I checked for bedbugs but all seemed clear and the cabin looked decent. When I returned to my cabin at 3am and after showering and lying down on the bed for a while, I started feeling itchy around my back and neck. I got up to check in the mirror and saw clusters of bites and I guessed my worst fears came true. I immediately went to check my bed and noticed a couple of tiny bloodstains which were not there previously. Then I saw some live bedbugs under my blanket which I killed. I did not want to wake my cousin to change the room immediately as it was already very late and we were going to wake up early the next day hence I waited it out. The following morning, I saw an even larger bedbug below my pillow. (to be continued) 2. Response to situation a. My cousin and I went to the information counter to inform them of the situation. The first response from the staff? "You sure it's bed bugs? Did you see the actual insect?" Instead of showing concern for the customer, their first response was to attempt to weasel out of the situation and divert the blame. With some reluctance, they offered to conduct an investigation (to ascertain if I was lying) and asked me to check back the counter in an hours' time. After 2 hours, they finally finished their "investigation" and the first option they offered was: To do a thorough cleaning of room and change of bedsheets, not a change of room. In cases of bedbugs, deep cleaning is required and is normally done by professionals that have the necessary tools and chemical to exterminate bedbugs but they said 2 hours of cleaning would get rid of the bugs. Of course, we would not accept that and eventually got a change of room and before we moved into our new room, we had to go back up to the old cabin to retrieve our luggage. When we got up, the room looks new and clean, with bed sheets changed as well (They probably noticed the bloodstains and some bedbugs) and there I saw 1 bedbug crawling by the side (As shown in the video attached). ** After our cruise, there is another batch of passengers and there is no time to conduct deep cleaning of the rooms. (I'd leave it to you to imagine what is going to happen) b. I asked for some cream to apply on the bites to stop the itch and inflammation - they said they do not have any cream - If I go to the medical center I have to pay for it (despite me sustaining the bites onboard) [to be continued] 3. Medical Center There was a SECOND incident of bedbugs in a separate room (of my uncle's), so I tried again on the following day and finally understanding the severity of the situation, they offered to bring me to the medical center on the ship's account. - Went there, sat for 30 minutes while the Italian doctors/medic were conversing in Italian even though it is a straightforward case: Saw the picture of the bug, inspect the bite, and prescribe me the cream - Amidst their conversation, my cousin and I figured from the English words they used "Complaint", "Ship's account", "Bedbugs", "report", and they finally gave me the cream and 2 of them talked amongst themselves, suggesting "Allergy" - From our inference, the waiting time was for them to determine how to write their report so as to absolve the blame from the ship, probably by claiming that I had allergies rather than getting bedbug bites. 4. Facilities / Activities Limited entertainment facilities: - Spa (That was an indoor pool with cold seawater) - Gym (Was decent) - Sauna (Too small) - Theatre (Which has almost no activities) - Outdoor pool (1 baby pool, 4 jacuzzis, 1 normal pool of only 10m) - Card Room (Looks decent but we did not use it) - Casino (Outdated and combined withthe kid's arcade, which is extremely inappropriate) - Kids' club (Acts as a childcare centre, which is actually not bad) - Disco (That I have no idea what it's for) - Basketball court (The only thing that is at the top deck) - DFS Repeated/boring activities: - Seminars (Often conducted under different names but it's the same activity) - Some dance classes - Italian lesson (1 hour on the 3rd day?) **The activities may not be bad, but there is limited engagement because the staff are simply not passionate enough and passengers can feel it. **No free drinking water, not even water dispensers, everything has to be paid for (Even those in the suites only get 1 bottle a day) 5. Service ***** After playing in the casino, I went to ask for some water. - The staff said I can only get bottled water - I asked if there was plain water - She said "Do you want bottled water or tap water?" - I asked, "Is the tap water drinkable?" (Knowing that ship's tap water is not potable) - "No" - If the tap water is not drinkable, why would she even offer that?! If it's others who did not know, she would have given it to them. - Hard to get smiles on the staff - Staff works extremely slow (It takes us around 40 mins to be served in the restaurants) [Most likely due to lack of enthusiasm and culture created from top-down] 5. Feedback form - Towards the end of the cruise, some of us had to attend the disembarking briefing, and they wanted us to fill up this feedback form - Instead of asking for our sincere feedback and ways in which they could improve upon, they EXPLICITLY stated that for Q1: How has your cruise experience been? [ We should fill in Excellent only] & Q16: Would you recommend Costa Victoria to your friends and family? [ We should fill in 'Yes, definitely!'] - That night, they made 2 announcements to submit our feedback form and EMPHASIZED to fill in the 2 questions as suggested - The following morning, at 0900 hrs and 0930 hrs, they made the same announcement re-emphasizing the need to fill in the 2 questions as such. **A good cruise would never have to worry about customers' feedback. The fact that they constantly reminded us to answer the questions in a certain way made a lot of us sick to the stomach. 6. Food / Miscellaneous I wish Gordon Ramsay was there -- it would have been 'Cruise Nightmares'. The food was so trashy that it was a slimming cruise for me. - In one of the photos, is the crabs where the gills are not even removed (One of the dirtiest parts of the crab) - Lobsters: For the first 3 days, we had the option to pay USD15 to purchase a lobster meal, but on the 3rd night, we were offered that option. It was not fresh to the extent that it tasted like mashed potato stuffed in lobster shells. - Steak: Felt stale and had a gross aftertaste, something I never had before - So-called fine dining experience: Is actually 'recycled' food from the buffet area. - Virtually nothing was beyond edible, even those that we had to pay for (E.g. USD8.50 pizzas that used frozen dried shrimps that had a stale taste) - However, the desserts are generally not bad. This whole experience has been so bad (and you can see the aftermath of the bites I suffered, not just limited to the back). We paid about 400+USD for 4D3N but there were so many other costs, such as COMPULSORY tips, paid water, paid food, paid activities. Until now, Royal Carribean still remains the best experience one can have (Having a dedicated crew that serves you during meal time, polite staff, fun activities and a myriad of onboard activities to do) So, please, I implore anyone out there who is considering a cruise trip to not scrimp on 200USD and just go for Royal Carribean, not Costa Cruise. This cruise is great for families with or without kids. From the moment we check-in our luggage to the queuing to go into the ship was a breeze. Staff at check-in was very efficient. When we finally got to embark on the ship it was fun all the way. The staff gave a very warm welcome. Throughout the cruise, staffs were very courteous and helpful. Cabin was very clean although the mattress was hard. We had 2 pillows each and we slept very well. For our first meal we dined at Bolero. The food is good but not fantastic. Ambience of the restaurant was so-so. We decided that we will not be having our meals there anymore. We tried the other two restaurants, Sinfornia and Fantasia. They have better variety of food there. Still good but not fantastic. Much better than Bolero. Buffet menu is the same everyday. I must give good credits for the entertainment and activities. It was so much fun with all the parties, dancing and games. The live entertainment was amazing. I would give it 5 star for the dancers. Would I go again? Yes I would but hopefully they change their daily buffet menu. Read Less

I picked Costa Victoria because she is the only vessel that arrives in Penang in the morning. Most market areas are open early in the morning and most traditional shops close by early or late afternoons. Food is good(lots of seafood) and value for money as compared to my recent experience onboard Diamond Princess and Sapphire Princess.I think Costa Victoria has a more experienced kitchen team. Food is available 24hrs a day in different parts of the ship. Onboard activities were less varied.Service from the different dining restaurants were top-notch.My only dissatisfaction is the drinking water. It tasted salty during my stay. There was no TV entertainment in English. I rang the reception to confirm there was no movie on TV. Every channel was in mandarin when most of the passengers are from India. There is an onboard app which can be downloaded before we board the trip. This app allowed me to ring the cabin, communicate with other passengers when we are in different parts of the ship. It's free and we could find the whereabouts of our family members in the ship. I choose this cruise because I wanted to try a different experience and I expected a little more from an old, Italian ship. I have cruised before Star Cruise Virgo & Gemini. I would say they are so much better. Bascially, it is just like any other critiques that i saw from the internet about the ship. For the first day, it was already a hectic. Nobody told us where to queue for checking in onboard. My boyfriend and I checked in our luggage and went straight to ask for more information about checking in. We were told from a costa uncle that we just have to queue along with the crowd and wait for our colored tags to be called. First we arrived at the scene, the crowd was overwhelming. Everything were just not organised. There was no line to queue. Everyone was just queuing in whatever way they like. So we queued along with them. After about an hour, my boyfriend realized we were in the wrong queue. We are Singaporeans and yet we are queuing at the foreigner's passport side. Nobody even asked us whether we are Singaporeans or not. So we wasted an hour plus queuing for what is not supposed to be for us.It was really ridiculous given that we arrived at the terminal 1 hour earlier and could have already be inside the ship rather than queuing for the wrong queue. Following, we checked in to our cabin and we started boiling water. The water tasted WEIRD! The water has a taste of metal and salt. I cannot believe even water doesn't work for us. We even had to purchase 1.5 litres of water bottle to drink fresh mineral water on the cruise. So we couldn't even make hot water to enjoy the teabags in the room. We pay for the cruise, the onboard gratuities and yet we have to pay for fresh mineral water too. It is seriously too much. After settling everything, we decided to turn in for the night. Our bed were 2 single beds joined together so both of us slept on different single beds. The next morning, my boyfriend had bites from bed bugs. It was terrible. Initially, we did not know whether it is a bed bug or mosquito bites. Hence, we just shrug it off. After the 2nd night, the bites got worse for my boyfriend. It was huge, red, swollen marks. So, I decided to write a note to the housekeepers and requested them to sanitized the bed. And they did. The service crew also called to check in on this matter which was professional. Not that I wanted to pursue this matter but it is just not right to do things halfway. Everyday the housekeeping team would make the cabins. However, i realize they did not take the effort to sanitized it properly. If they did, there would not have any bed bugs. The reason why i say they never sanitized our beds every time is through the smell. The day when they sanitized our beds was when we complained about the bed bugs, right away after they make our cabin, we could smell the sanitizers. Yet, for the other days, there are none. The next ridiculous thing is dining. The ciabatta breads was SO HARD that i could throw the bread and knock out someone. The food was not that bad. However, it was just a repetition. Almost every lunch and dinner for ala carte, the food is very similar. It was like the chefs do not know how to cook other dishes other than the same old dishes. We had the 'sherbet of the day' - pineapple for 3 days straight. How is that sherbet of the day? More like sherbet of the whole trip. It was like as if the pineapples from the buffet line had too much leftovers and they just come up with the idea of using the pineapples to make sherbet. Some food from the breakfast buffet line was also cold when we were the FIRST few customers to enter the buffet. This is just too much. I did not expect the 'beforehand prepared food' to be piping hot. However, I could have at least expected warm? The service from the buffet line was relatively okay. When we queuing for our lunch and dinner in the ala carte restaurants, the service staff actually allowed some customers who cut queue to enter the restaurant! That is so disappointing. People queued for a reason and it is to be fair. The worse thing is that the service staff actually allowed the customers who cut queue to enter the restaurant without even trying to stop them or asked them to queue. WHAT IS THE MEANING OF A QUEUE THEN?! At the last day of our cruise, we had lunch at a ala carte restaurant. We were the first few to get our orders done but we waited for the longest time. I do not blame the service for being slow because they are serving a lot of customers. The most outrageous thing is what I actually heard from one of the waiters. As we waited 1 hour for our appetizers, I asked one of the waiter (who is not in charge of serving food to our table) about our food. The waiter said:" Hi madam, this table is not my responsibility. You have to wait". My immediate reaction was like WHAT?! How could a waiter say that our table is not his responsibility when he did not even take the effort to check for our orders. Even if our table is not in charged by him, he should not even say that our table is not his responsibility. Anyone who had worked before F&B would even have the brains to know that whether or not the table is in charged by you, you should at least try to give a satisfactory reply to the customers. Moving on, the swimming pool was literally SALTY! I had mosquito bites a few days ago and i went swimming. The moment I dipped myself into the pool, i could feel my mosquito bites with intense pain. It was like putting salt onto my wound. Even my face was extremely painful after i swam a few rounds. Both the spa's swimming pool and the main pool is salty. It is not worth the swim. I swim to relax but instead it spoiled my mood. Last but not least, I would say i pay a rather absurd amount for the cruise. It is not worth the money. Everything onboard is by USD which makes it more expensive. On the trip, i had more worries than anything. It is supposed to be a fun-filled relaxing holiday but it turns out to be the worse. In total, i pay an extra 52 USD for onboard gratuities with a sum of $500+ of cruise fees. This cruise is totally not worth the money for the treatment i received. Other than the above mentioned, the staff of costa was rather friendly. Read Less

First cruise experience, and I felt like the review is not doing Costa Victoria the justice it deserved. All review was so negative, but in fact, it worth as far as the price we paid. It suitable for laid back Asian family, and that's it. Don't expect too much for over 25 years old ship. The pool are too small, and overall facilities was not a state of the art. About the service, it's not as nightmare as described as the early years of operations. Not excellent also, though. Ports experience was not winning any first impression prize. They start late and people are all crowded in less than suitable condition. But after that, in Phuket and Penang, everything was much better coordinated. The room is definitely cleaner than public area. Especially on the last day, the queue for ladies toilet and how awful the smell was, was terrible - if not traumatizing. So, overall it worth the money, by means if you still get their promo prize of cabin upgraded. More than that, good luck. You will lost the good value. Read Less

I became pessimistic while read some critics for this cruise, and my family already booked a trip for last December. But since I got into the cruise until the trip finished, my worries turned into satisfaction. First, the food was nice-I love their dessert and cakes!- and we got two times gala dinner with crab and lobster, which was delicious. Restaurants opened as promised, pizza station on midnight was a good idea, our favorite place after night games and dance. A bit critic is the drinking water, it would be much better if they provide more fresh water. Second, the staffs are amazing! They were friendly and nice, you can get information easily, the restaurant staff gave warm ambiance, and the dancers were so energetic. More interesting shows will be a good improvement, although we love the Michael Jackson show. Third, the cabin, pool, jacuzzi, and other facilities were well maintained. Yes, it is not a new cruise, but I saw almost no significant damage in it. The house keeping of the cruise was terrible, I was scolded by a Philipino house keeper for kept calling the hotline for services. I am shocked when I asked him how many times was the call made. He told me he got scolded by a maintenance man and he felt this was not fair to him. I told him this is no reason to upset with us as we did not scold him or the maintenance guy. Basically, when we checked in the room , the lights was broken and toilet door felt apart. After this incident, the housekeeper kept asking me where we come from and tried to invade our privacy. Apart from the above, the drinking and bathroom water was high in salt. It is not suitable for drinking. My skin was bruised due to the bathing water was high in salt. On board, you have no mineral water to drink and if you wish, you have to buy it from them. Even you are on your trip to Langkawi and Phuket, you are not allowed to buy water/food to bring back. Also, the CTC withheld our passport and this is alarming if we were missing in Phuket or Langkawi. We were not informed when we sign up for tthe cruise. For the food in the restaurant, I am amazed on the food. The Chilly crab/lobster was served with hard shelf. My son has problem dissecting the flesh. In view of the above, I strongly advise you not to sign up with the cruise in the future, Read Less

Just returned from a 5D4N on Costa Victoria which departed from Singapore to Phuket & Langkawi. Would like to share with everyone my terrible experience onboard. 1) Food: Terrible, terrible, either very salty/sweet, over spicy/oily or tasteless, noodles were always over-cooked. Hoping to find some nice pasta or pizza since it's a Italian cruise ship but not at all....only have either penne or spaghetti with tomato sauce(taste like straight from a jar/canned) or creamy sauce, pizza served at the pizzeria was the same... terrible too......simple ingredients & tasteless. Worst...there's like 4 station for beverages but 3 were always CLOSED, juices only available on the first & last day of cruise for breakfast, ridiculous, water tastes just siphon from the sea, there's a sign indicating no topping up your water bottle using their water dispenser & they don't provide any bottled water in the cabin. Seems like the dishes that they served were all mass produced from a central kitchen, restaurants(sit-down dining & no pork) & buffet style(self-serve & no pork) serve the same dishes(no pork). Saw 1 of the filippino staff(higher rank then service staff) at the buffet area, he just pull down the blind even though there's guest still getting his/hers food before the closing time for breakfast/lunch/tea-break/dinner at the buffet area hurrying/chasing guest away. Non of the dining option operates round the clock. 2)Service: Service staff have horrible attitude, no training given to talk or serve their guest, staff were always talking loudly among themselves even there's guest around them, it's the same whether at the buffet or restaurant, no smile/greeting at all like we are there to bother them. Went to the restaurant for the so call GALA Dinner evening, hoping to have a nice meal after our first horrible encounter of food at the buffet area, after sitting down menu was not on the table and it take awhile for them to deliver the menu after having to ask a few times, again not happy to take order, when food arrives he just put them down on the table, is like nah your food is here, sort them out yourself( he didn't serve them accordingly to whoever's order) & eat it & don't you bother me attitude, btw food wasn't serve accordingly to the course, our salad came after our main. Dessert take a long time to be served so rejected it as we were already pretty full thinking no point bringing it, so server not happy & tried arguing w me(telling me he have a few tables(3) to look after...blah blah blah. Another issue, order 4 fish but server serve 3 first, just a reminder to him we have 4 & he replied he only have 1 hand to serve. 3)Ports: When docking at Phuket it takes us more than 1 hour to get on board the tender boat, having to walk down 3 levels to get to the tender boat is not an easy task for older people with some walking disabilities. 4)Ship: old ship, No proper signage or indication for guest to find their way around the ship. no "proper" pool for kids or adults to use just some "whirpool", not enough of lift working for guest who's not able to keep climbing up and down the stairs. "Public" toilets on the ship is dirty, smelly, floors are always wet. Floors on buffet area is always dirty, slippery & sometimes wet. Attention to Costa Victoria: You will have to learn how to do crowd control, 1st night fire-drilled was chaotic, no clear picture what to do for quite some cruiser and we have to stay at the outside of deck for almost half an hour shuffling here & there. Tender of boat also chaotic, have to wait like 1 hour for us to get out of the ship to go on shore. Have a proper training(proper way of serving, talking & responding to guest NOT by pointing fingers or shouting to their guest's face) before offering them a job or putting them on the floor to serve guest onboard. Staff with name tags stating able to converse in that particular language does not apply for your crew. Spend more money or get a different supplier on getting the food you are feeding to your guest not those "cheapo" & not so fresh stuff. We, paid guest on your cruise ship is to enjoy our holiday, NOT having to "suffered" and got dampened by the service your crew provide with their rude, don't come bother me attitude and we also there to enjoy at least some decent food & drinks. I love cruising through the years and have started young too.Since I have not been onboard any Costa vessels and having read many negative feedback, thought I will give Costa Victoria a try. Oh my, it sure confirmed that it will be my 1st and last cruise with Costa Victoria and will not attempt to try any other vessels within the same family. Isn't cruising supposedly to be filled with fun and laughter with happy crew members working onboard? You will see non at all and even if you do, it is only a handful and really tiny palm size. Service with no smile. You won't even know that there is a Cruise Director onboard who does not appear often enough nor engaging with passengers. Except to say Ciao Ciao..Crew were simply not engaging enough from all levels. Passengers were treated like some invisible beings. Those performances were able to put one to slumber. Older Ship and not very well maintained. Foul smell detected daily in the cabin's shower area.. No idea why. I tried spraying my personal prefume. Shore excursions were charged on the high side. Tenther boat used were old and disembarkment in Melaka was horrifying. Daily buffet counter not varied enough, almost the same daily. Dining area service staff not extremely friendly or alert.. Never have I gone through such a dull cruising experience. I have to agree totally with previous negative points given.. Read Less

We have been on cruise 4 times and were in a big group. All were excellent except this cruiseliner. 1) ship is old, furniture are old and a chair broke in restaurant. SAFETY issues in Fantastia Restaurant and Sinfonia Restaurant - 2 BIG NAILS (6-10cm long) are found in the these restaurants with my young toddler picking them up on the floor at different timings in different restaurants! Luckily no one was hurt! This can be fatal if the child puts the nails in his mouth or anyone could have trip and fall onto the nails. I stil kept the photos of the nails found. 2) Cabin and public toiets - I encountered a few incidents in our cabin and public toilets in costa victoria with the toilet flushing system, no water to flush! could be the centralised water controlling system which has problem. One of our relatives room's air con auto on and off. Sometimes very cold, sometimes very stuffy. 3) Food were very salty on certain days. Drinking water in resturants can be yellowish at times. Salty drinking water, salty coffee and tea everyday. All the 3 main restaurants, buffet pool deck, Sinfonia and Fantastia Restaurants all served the same food for every meal. Sinfonia and Fantastia resturants close very early for breakfast, 9am! With only 1 restaurant at pool deck in the entire ship that is still open for breakfast at 9am, the dining capacity cannot even accomodate half the passengers. Bear in mind that this pool deck resturant which is still open is the only place on board where passengers can get water and coffee. Needless to say how crowded it was. We had to sit in an outdoor dirty table with rain splaterring in with kids, after queueing for some time at the egg station. The cook said "NO MORE EGSS" at 9.30am and the resturant closes for breakfast at 11.30am! 4) Poor entertainment and activities. No mascots, nothing much for kids to do. Squok club activities are not interesting. 5) Customer service - The human resource director and the customer service director needs a wake up call! 80% of the staff in general are unhelpful, unfriendly, rude at times, no smiles (as if they are under tremendous stress or fatique or u owe them money). Totally not service oriented. Please do not expect staff to smile at you or greet you good morning when they walk past you. If they do, u are in luck. Service is horrendous on board. Can u imagine a man in black suit (of a higher rank in the Italian pizza restaurant) insisted us to sit in a table which is not cleaned. When i tell him that the table is dirty, he just merely pick up some prawn shells and food and put in his hands and walk away. There were still food remainings, ketchup , pizza crust on the table which he didnt bother to take a cloth to clean nor ask his waiters to clean. Is not peak hour and all other tables were occupied or section closed. Waiters seem to be shorthanded at Fantasia and Sinfornia restaurant, there are a few instances when we met nice waiters but most of the time is not. Even simple requests such as water or getting a teaspoon is rejected right on the face with reply, "i'm not your table waiter, u ask your waiter". i told him my waiter is busy and not around, and all i need is just a teaspoon which i have already walked to the area where there are a few waiters standing ard with cupboards and drawers. None bothered to help! What customer serivice is this??? A kind waiter walked over, open the drawer and pass me a teapsoon where i was standing. Such a simple act of opening a drawing to pass me a clean teaspoon is so difficult? Even a cleaner in coffeshops or food centres in Singapore will help to to wipe and clean the table and not forcing you to sit where tables are dirty and refused to be cleaned! Simple questions such as what time does the casino opens? where is the salsa room? where is the room for leisure card / tile games all cannot be answered! If the top management doesnt bother about their customer service standards, how would the rest of all his waiters follow??? CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING IS A DEFINITE MUST FOR ALL STAFF ON BOARD for all aspects. We dont even think they deserve half of the USD60 service charge paid per pax. Phuket and Malacca ports - We have more than 20 hours to spend in phuket and less than 3 hours to spend in malacca. 3 hours is due to not enough tender boats and all passengers have to board the last tenderboat to leave malacca pier is 2 hours beofre the ship sets off. In a way, itinerary is not well planned. This cruise is not handicapped friendly or toddler/baby friendly. Final Mode of settlement / payment is so rigid and upsets many passengers on board. We have seen so many complaining because this ship doesnt not practise the norms as other cruies where final mode of payment can be by a choice of cash or credit card at the final point in time just before we disembark. On day 1, u have a choice of paying USD 150 as cash deposit or do self registration by credit card to prevent deactivation of your room card.. This mode cannot be changed, meaning i do self registration of the room card by credit card now. I cannot pay by cash for the final settlement of bills and vice versa. This pissed so many customers on board, bcos some have so much cash on hand while some want to buy things using credit card by cant do so as their mode of payment is by cash. When customers are unhappy, they wont purchase things from boutqiue shops or use the spa services, buy the expensive photos etc. Is all a chain. Even though this cruise is cheap, it depends what kind of holiday you want to enter into. I'm seeing other pasengers whom i do not know complaining abt different things everyday. Think twice. To end with, 3 of us are sick on the day when we leave the cruise. Stomach flu, fever, Read Less

Staff member were very friendly and went out of there way to provide a little extra. There is a great choice of eating options with food served all day. The restaurant meals were big and very tasty and breakfast was great. A poolside hamburger or a midnight pizza ensured we were never hungry. In fact quite the opposite we were full all the time. The cabins are old but comfortable and keep very clean by on board staff. We visited Phuket and Penang and embarkment and disembarkment were hassle free. The tour were good and the tour guides were friendly an knowledgeable particularly in Penang Great value for money. We got a special deal on tickets paying about 500000 IDR per person per night for a deluxe balcony cabin. Exceptional value for what we received. Read Less

If you are looking for upper class society experience, this ship is not for you. Costa Victoria is a very laid back, relax ship. Overall, this is a ship without big wow factor like rock climbing or ice skating rink. It is quite an old ship, but some hardware have been upgraded since the editor review was made. Costa card now opens the door as well, so you can just bring one card around the ship. The inside room is tiny but the beds are very comfortable. I fall asleep almost instantly every night. Bathroom is small but for Southeast Asian size it is good. The most fabulous thing about the cruise is the programme newspaper. It tells you literally everything. It have every info you need on board and even reminds you about things you might forget. Following the programs will make you sufficiently busy the whole day. Shows at night is nice but we all feel that the Michael Jackson show could be better... Maybe there's too much emphasis on that one show. The other shows are equally good, if not better than Michael Jackson show. Food are OK, be warned there are A Lot of bread and cakes. If you are a rice person, there is always a pot of rice at the end of buffet line at Bolero. Sit down restaurant have rice options as well. The indian food are nice. Guests on board are all really casual. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Read Less

Pros about Costa Victoria: 1) It has very nice noodle soup every night from 10pm - 2am as well as pool deck on sea days afternoon. 2) welcome drinks on the day of boarding and after returning ship from Penang. 3) Very nice live cooking of kaya toast and sunny up at buffet place breakfast 4) Excellent dance and singing shows for 2 nights 5) Indoor pool comes with in pool chairs which is really comfortable and the lockers are user friendly 6) Nicer pasta compared to Royal Caribbean 7) Late boarding time from 5pm onwards and late leaving of ship after 2pm meaning I can apply a day less annual leave. Also I prefer departure port at Harbour front compared to Marina Bay cruise terminal 8) It has 5 course meals instead of 3 course in Royal Caribbean. Course includes - appetizer, soup, salad, main course and dessert Cons about Costa Victoria: 1) Cabin fridge is locked at all times 2) TV was out of connection most of the time (not much of issue since I don't watch it) 3) Except for breakfast, the rest of room service is chargeable 4) Pool is closed from 10pm - 7am. Even after dinner time when sky is dark, the pool deck remains too dark for people interested in night dip 5) Limited choice of food at buffet place and quality not as good as Royal Caribbean's 6) Coffee and juice dispensers occasionally out of operation in buffet place 7) No coffee offered in main dining room which consists only 1 deck 8) No garnishes in soup in main dining room 9) buffet place chairs are of cheapo plastic chairs unlike the bamboo resort like chairs in Royal Caribbean 10) On the last day of cruise for disembarkment, the staffs would get you out of the rooms before 10am even though ship only reaches destination at 2pm. It is both annoying and embarrassing when you have to leave the room and not knowing where to rest with luggages around you instead of enjoying the cruise to the fullest. Seriously, do the crews really need so many hours to clean from 10am to 5pm before the next passengers board the ship? 11) Library cabinets are locked all the time 12) The crews use our existing cabin towels to make towel animals causing inconvenience to cabin occupants to use remaining towels for showering, etc. 13) The indoor pool is frequently closed for maintenance during its operating hours 14) The meat dishes such as steaks are poorly prepared and hard to bite. In conclusion, it is a nice first try on Costa Victoria but I will not be trying it Read Less

Hi all, I would really like to share with you guys my cruise experience with Costa Cruise (Victoria). I went on 3 Dec 2015 with my family, cruising to destinations such as Penang and Phuket. (Malaysia, Thailand) Service: I felt very welcomed when I first entered the ship. All the staffs, officers and captains were there to welcome us. The staffs then led us to our room (Deck 4,Nabucco). As for room service, the staffs were excellent and skillful in their job; they tidied our room when we were out for breakfast & dinner and spent the fastest time to complete their job to make sure that the room is neat and tidy before we come back. The guest service was very helpful for us, as my grandparent's room' air conditioning was faulty, I called the guest service to send men to repair, and immediately the workers were here to fix it as fast as possible. Staffs were polite towards everyone and helpful to guide us and help us throughout the cruise journey. Dining: We all know that the origin of Costa Cruises is Italy. So maybe you guys will be wondering: Would the cuisine be Italian? My answer is no, there are all varieties of cuisine such as Chinese and Malay. For my case, I am a 13 year old Chinese boy (Singaporean) and I was worrying about the food, will it be close to Chinese food? But when I got on board the ship, it was quite a shock to me that it wasn't all Italy food, but International cuisine. The bolero buffet (Deck 11, Rigoletto) serves rice, fruits, pasta for sure and other international delicacies. Tip 1: Try not to go to the A La Carte restaurant at Deck 5, Boheme (Fantasia & Sinfonia) because the dishes are all the same as the Buffet on Deck 11, so might as well go to Deck 11 with unlimited servings. Tip 2: If you do visit the Bolero Buffet on Deck 11, you would notice that there are 4 sections divided throughout the restaurant (International/Halal/Vegetarian). But there are actually more dishes avaliable at the end of deck 11. So don't miss the chance! Cabin: The cabin is spacious and neat. The room service is twice a day in order to keep the room tidy. The staffs who help you to make up your room will often use napkins/towels to form animals/plants. The air conditioning's temperature can be manually controlled. The overall rating for the cabin is excellent however, the design is a little weird. The window is located above the beds, so in order to view the scenery, you might have to climb up. *Note: The room card is in your room* Embarkation: Singapore I was thinking that it would take very long for us to board the ship because I have read other reviews from other users that we were given a pass/queue number and had to wait for a long period of time, just like my Star Cruise, Gemini experience last year. To my surprise, after siting at the waiting area of 10mins, we could check in and board the ship already. Tip 1: Try to board the ship as early as possible to prevent "human jam" Embarkation: Phuket The ship travelled 2 days to reach this destination. The ship will anchor at the "mini port" at the entrance of Phuket. Therefore, to get on shore, there will be boats to ferry us to Patong Beach. Patong Beach is a place for relaxation for everyone, they have many activities along the beach such as water skiing, rides on speed boat. For my family, we went with the shroe excursion that costa: Highlights of Phuket and Island Safari. Island Safari is similar to Singapore Zoo, there were performances by Monkeys and Elephant. We even had a chance to ride on elephant, it was an enjoyable moment riding the elephant with my Dad. We also went to the famous temple in Phuket, Wat Chalong. Afterwards, we visited the first cashew nut factory in Phuket. We bought many dried fruits/nuts there and we went back to the ship. Our tour guide, Pao, he's an awesome person, he took care of my grandparents throughout the journey, sharing his life experience on the bus, chatting with us went we were bored. *Note: There are more choice of excursions* Embarkation: Penang After leaving Phuket, we headed for Penang. This time, my Dad did not book any shore excursion because my grandparents were not feeling well. So it was a Sunday, my family was walking along the streets, and happened to see many people at the street market nearby the port. It is on every sunday and the shop owners offer a reasonable price for their merchandise. It was quite troublesome before we had to walk one big round around the port to get out of the port. I suggest everyone to download the offline map of Penang in Google Maps. *Note: There are shore excursion available too* Tip 1: There will be taxi drivers outside the port waiting for you. Embarkation: Singapore (End) The had to wait till 3pm to disembark the ship although the ship reached Singapore at 2pm. There will be a colour tag for you to tag on your luggage and the colour will decide the time of disembarking. At 10am, we were requested to leave our room already. This is something I don't really like, there's still 4 hours to reach Singapore, and yet we have to leave our room so early. I had nowhere to rest but under the hot sun at deck 11, beside the pool. Entertainment: There are lots of entertainment on the ship, like Casino, Mini Arcade, Festival theatre for performances, the main hall of the ship for party and Deck 11, Pools. The Casino is only available for certain ages however the arcade is for all. Performances were held in the Festival Theatre such as "Angiolino&Janette La Fracci in Surreal Circus Comedy" and "Michael Jackson Tribute Show". The parties like "The Carnival of Venice Party" and many more are held at Deck 5. There are 4 pools of jacuzzi and 2 rather deep swimming pools. **Note: THE WATER OF THE SWIMMING POOLS IS SALTY** In a nut shell, I feel that Costa Victoria is worth the money and very suitable for family. There will be many activities for you to participate on board and board games/ balls (e.g. Basketball)/rackets (Table Tennis) can be rented by deposit. ***PLEASE DO NOTE THAT ALL MONEY SHOULD BE PAID IN US CURRENCY*** Tip: Register your credit card upon boarding the ship because at the end if the journey, you will be paying a service charge of US$48, because if you don't register your credit card, on the last day, you will have to pay US$48 and requested to queue up. I hope you like my review of Costa Victoria. Do ask me anything regarding the ship and I will try to answer it. Do share your experience with me! Read Less

If you are an Asian looking for a cruise experience, you might want to think twice about cruising with Costa Victoria. Most international cruise lines have a wide variety of food that includes Asian cuisine, but Costa Victoria is an Italian ship line that offers more Italian food than others. Be prepared to choose from a predominately western-european menu that includes no Asian food. You can look for some culinary comfort when you order noodles at night, but even so, the taste is rather bland. Aside from an Italian eatery experience that I couldn’t get used to, the activities are nonetheless the highlight of my trip. The performances and facilities were enjoyable when you consider the amount of money you pay for the trip. It is very reasonable. There were a lot of dancing and performances that showcased the Italian culture- something that is different from the other cruises, and if you want to get a glimpse of Italy, this is the cruise to be on board. Furthermore, there’s no pressure for a nice dress code because their dining halls and concert theaters do not require a jazzy prim get-up. You can come in comfortable berms and shirt, which I really appreciate, especially when on a holidays. Read Less

This cruise was booked to celebrate my husband's big birthday and was a once in a lifetime event for us. We picked it mainly because the advertising stated we would be visiting the orangutangs in Borneo but it just happened to be part of a cruise holiday. We have a bigger complaint against the tour operator which have nothing to do with the cruise but we also have a lot to say about the actual cruise, our expectations and what we got. As far as the cruise is concerned here are my views. We were led to believe that this was a 4 star ship (and is still being advertised as such). In my opinion it was 2 / 3* and very poor. In all the decor was good and we were well looked after by our cabin girl (cleaning, making beds etc). However, we paid extra for a sea view cabin which was just big enough for a double bed with 9" on each side to get in, there was a small dressing table and a corner unit with shelves holding a TV. The porthole was above the bed and you have to stand on the bed to see out. The shower was smaller than those on Brittany Ferries which do overnight crossings, and we were provided with one miniature bar of soap between two of us for the whole voyage. There was a soap dispenser inside the shower stall which contained some harsh soap product. Because we had a long plane journey we were advised not to take too much by way of shampoo, conditioners etc (by firends) as these would be provided. We were sadly disappointed. We stayed in Travel Lodge a couple of nights after this cruise and we paid £33 for a double room and all toileteries were included, which I would have expected on a 4* cruise. Our first main impression was the food. The menu was impressive and everything looked amazing - until it arrived on your plate. They served courses out of order, food was cold or undercooked or just not what was ordered and in general mealtimes were a shambles and the food inedible. We complained to the waiters many times asking them to change dishes to what we had actually ordered or to re-cook something and, although none of this was their fault, they soon became annoyed and rude. May I state that on our table of 8 people 6 people had to send their meals back on the first night and it continued throughout the cruise. This is to say, it was not that we were over fussy but everyone was complaining. I can understand the staff becoming surly but when I asked to speak to the manager or the chef, nothing happened, no-one would speak to us. We also tried the self-service restaurant and found the food to be placed around the area in a very haphazard way, in old-fashioned serving dishes, which were often left open, making the food cold. We also found the same thing in the dishes day after day. We were assured that it was fresh food every time but who wants mashed courgettes for lunch, then dinner and then breakfast. I expected a buffet to be laid out with beautiful salads and fruits and choices of meats etc but it was just meat and 2 veg like a school canteen. We were expecting 24 / 24 hour food availability but when we had to miss lunch one day (again, due to a mess up by the staff) we found that there was no food available until 6pm and that was in the burger bar, then later and into the early hours you could get a pizza. Not quite fine dining. We did not chose to have the pre-paid drinks package as neither of us drink much alcohol so £28 a per each seemed a bit steep for a couple of glasses of wine. We could not buy the pre-paid soft drinks package as it was for under 17 year olds. That left us paying for everything. You got juice and tea/coffee a breakfast but at other meals everything was extra. So you got your meal then had to pay for a cup of coffee or a glass of water. Water was charged at US$ 4.98 per bottle. When we bought a bottle of wine with dinner we only had one glass and they would not allow us to take it into one of the lounges to finish at our leisure, or to our cabin to enjoy later. Not allowed. If you wanted anything for your cabin you had to pay for the drink (of course) but then pay US$ 9 to have it delivered, plus, lets not forget the 15% surcharge on everything, delivery and the drink or food. Next we had a problem with the excursions. We didn't book in advance as we were travelling between our home, our stopover in the UK and the airport when the information arrived. However, we did make all our bookings on the 2nd evening of the cruise and were happy with our choices. However, they lost our bookings and could not offer us any alternative or squeeze us in somewhere as everything was fully booked. They have since said it was our fault for not booking in advance but what difference would that have made if they had lost them too. It was not that we didn't book. THEY LOST OUR BOOKINGS. That mean't we had to find our own way about when the ship docked, and, unfortunately, the staff had no information about where to do, what to do independently and the ship did not even provided currency exchange as we were landing in ports with unknown currencies (such as Borneo, Brunei, Boracay etc). They didn't even know (we found out for ourselves) that the welcoming committes from each country were providing all the services the ship should have, and free of charge (i.e. no charge for changing money back and forth, free hat, bottles of water etc). As for the entertainment. We had to eat out meal at a set time and were not allowed to change that. At the end of each meal we were herded into an auditorium and were 'entertained' by what was no better than amateurish singers. One chap was quite good but I could have heard him at a local kareoke night. The shows lasted 40 minutes when the lights went up you were herded out where you had a choice of sitting in a bar or going to the casino. I expected music and dancing. Again, I was disappointed. When we did get off the ship to go ashore it could take up to 2 hours to wait your turn - this being because we were not booked on organised tours (reasons above) and spent only about 2 or 3 hours on shore, walking around the dock side and port area. To then wait up to 2 hours to get back on board, which was started early therefore cutting your time ashore even shorter. Just one final thing. Having found that there were no toiletries in the cabin we then discovered there was no shop on board to buy such things. Yes, you could buy expensive, designer watches and jewellery, you could pay US$80 for a massage or go to the salon to get your hair done. But you couldnt buy a bottle of shampoo or conditioner. To add insult to injury, no matter how much you complain, they are still happy to take a further 10% in a tipping charge, so no idea what the 15% surcharge was. I just hope that if someone is thinking of booking this cruise that you think twice. We have telephoned them to ask about the ship and according to them it is a 4* luxury cruise.
