My wife and I are retired hoteliers/ restaurateurs from the UK so are not always the easiest to please as we tend to have too many opinions regarding hospitality! But having read some other very negative reviews from earlier recent cruisers on Silver Wind we were concerned that we could be embarking on a nightmare experience. However having cruised the same ship previously a few years ago in South Africa we couldn’t readily equate these to our own positive memories . So we feel obliged to try to convey our own feelings regarding our voyage which bore little resemblance to some of these previously negative rantings. Yes that previous cruise was a warm weather one four years ago, but in a notoriously rough Indian Ocean (even in Summer) and this was to be mainly in November in northern Canada and the North Atlantic so we always knew it was going to be a cold and potentially rough trip, but you know that before you book and we couldn’t really understand how others had clearly failed to factor that into their own planning and were then blaming Silversea and expressing surprise at rough seas and missing ports. Surely these were always situations likely to happen so please don’t moan about the elements and blame the cruise line as there is clearly nothing that Silversea or indeed any other cruise lines can do about the weather! On boarding in Montreal all went as smoothly and seamlessly as normal with Silversea, and of course, no queues. We were pleased to be greeted in reception by a number of familiar personnel including Bar Manager, Newton, who we had met on previous cruises. Also Cruise Director, Colin Brown, who as someone else stated should be cloned, as he really is one of the best that we have encountered and this was our third cruise with him in charge. He looks after all the entertainment and enrichment programmes. These included two enrichment lecturers and a superb group of Voices of Silversea who were basically six professional singers, two operatic and four more general but all with their own individual talents. Additionally there was an onboard pianist and a Silversea trio who provided background entertainment throughout the ship. Two guest entertainers, a magician and a guitarist also came on board for a few days at different times to bolster the offering as this was a 16 day cruise. We felt they were both a bit underwhelming but that is probably because the Voices on this voyage were so good. Additionally Colin, who is a classically trained concert pianist, arranged a number of piano concerts in conjunction with the two opera singers and also performed some amazing classical duets with the onboard pianist, Olga, who was also outstanding. The crew in general were of the usual high Silversea standards. As ever mostly smiling and welcoming. Though I have to say that some of the restaurant staff (only a few to be fair) were not quite as friendly as we have experienced on other Silversea Cruises where they normally get your name quickly and address you by it from very early on, which is always impressive. Ever since the introduction of their iPad booking system a few years ago this standard seems to have fallen away somewhat unless they remind themselves by looking at your picture and name which they now get by entering your suite number into the iPad system. Maybe they were a bit tired after some seven weeks of cruising since they left London, most of which had been under some pretty appalling weather conditions! Our Suite Butler, Parveen from India, however, did an excellent job of looking after us throughout the voyage and was always on hand to attend to our every need, and our suite attendant Christine, from the Philippines, kept our suite immaculate throughout the voyage. Reception and Shore concierge staff were also very friendly and helpful and a great improvement on some we have experienced on other voyages. The hotel manager however was rarely seen by us out and about the ship and maybe that reflected on some of the staff performance? Captain Arma and the navigation bridge officers did a great job. They were all frequently seen around the ship and also kept us extremely well informed about weather conditions etc and, most memorably, carefully plotted a safe way around a huge storm that brewed up over the Gulf of St Lawrence by hugging the coast of Prince Edward Island and going very slowly for a couple of days to avoid the worst of the weather and keeping the ship as stable as possible. He kept all the passengers and crew fully informed at all times and despite a bit of rocking and rolling one evening the ship remained amazingly smooth, despite the gale blowing outside, and we never noticed any passengers confining themselves to their cabins with all the restaurants operating as busily as ever! He only once had to come onto the tannoy at 11pm on one evening to suggest that it was not a good idea to still be walking around the ship anymore! But it was reassuring that he was still on the bridge so late in the evening and in fact most everyone had gone to bed anyway and we actually had probably our best nights sleep so far being gently (or not) rocked into slumber. By the morning everything had calmed down and in the end that was really the only properly bumpy bit of this cruise. The storm did indeed mean us missing two ports of call but the first only for safety reasons as we had arrived and anchored, but it was a tender port and the Captain wasn’t convinced he could get everyone safely back to the ship, and the second because the local coastguard had closed the fairly narrow access channel…so the Captain had no option anyway. Talking to some of the crew it appeared that the ship had endured some pretty appalling weather all the way from London across to Iceland and then over to Canada for approx 7 weeks on the previous four or five cruises so, despite us being the last cruise out of the north for the winter, we actually probably had the best weather....so who knows? Just guess anyone should bear this more in mind if you choose such an itinerary in any year! Yes apparently the ship had had some sort of mechanical issue in Montreal a couple of cruises before our one that delayed departure by two or three days but to be fair to Silversea everyone on that one was reimbursed a third of their fare for that incident. Yes the ship is twenty three years old now and showing a bit of age externally but that will be sorted out when it dry docks shortly. The interior however was as clean and smart as ever with the public areas having been spruced up last year. Apparently the staterooms will be getting a “Muse-ification” refurbishment update during the upcoming dry dock in December. The suite bedrooms (or at least our one) actually seemed in pretty decent shape decor wise despite previous critical comments made on other CC Silver Wind reviews, though the TV system could certainly do with an update which is apparently happening with a more modern system being installed. For some reason it appears the update will not include the bathrooms which doesn’t make a lot of sense as the bathrooms are probably the weakest thing on Wind being rather on the small side with a rather small in length bath (not great if you are reasonably tall). However it does have an excellent power shower in addition to a hand shower, but it is one that you have to climb into the bath to use so not the easiest perhaps for some less mobile guests. We have also travelled twice on Silver Spirit in the past couple of years and have always particularly enjoyed that ship but mainly due to its larger size and thus the greater choice of dining options. Having said that Wind is half the size of Spirit and you benefit from a very cosy clubby atmosphere on board. We were on Wind for 16 days this time and didn’t really get bored with the Menus as they changed pretty much daily (every few days for La Terrazza) and the pool deck hot rocks grill, which we also love, was pretty much out as an option (even though it was still available with rugs and heat lamps) given the very cold weather in Canada and the northeast US. We actually got the chance to do a shipboard visit to see the newly stretched version of Silver Spirit when it came into Montreal a few days prior to our cruise on Wind and we really liked the updated decor and new restaurants that have now brought Spirit very much up to Muse standards. Anyway all in all it was an enjoyable and interesting cruise on Silver Wind and I would suggest others should quite simply ignore some of the earlier terrible reviews posted on cruise critic which in our mind really seem to have stemmed from experiencing some dreadfully bad weather rather than the ship itself! We would certainly be very happy to cruise on this ship again and can reassure others to go for it if they might be having any doubts. Read Less

We just returned from a ten day trip on the Silver Spirit, Montreal to New York City. Out of 25+ cruises this was hands down the worst because of the weather. It was 29 degrees F in Montreal, we got stuck in Quebec City because of a blizzard, Saguenay port was closed because of the weather, Baie-Comeau was closed because the dock was wrecked by the storm and it was rain, snow, sleet and fog in all but Newport RI. So I must give this trip two marks, overall trip a 2 while just the Silver Spirit a 8. I blame the weather 50%, myself 25% for booking a trip to Canada this late in the season and Silver Sea 25% for selling a trip this late. The attitude aboard the ship from Captain on down was it was too late in the season. The Ship: The Spirit looks like a new ship and just like the Muse in many places. She was very clean and organized with no problems that I encounter. The crew was great, service top notch. The unlimited internet and the interactive TV worked great. We were in cabin 1117, a new Silver Suite added when she was stretched. Great cabin in a great location. Very quite and right by the elevator and midships enough motion wasn’t a issue. Food: The Spirit now has the same restaurant arraignment as the Muse and the same room service. I really do not like the fact that the menus do not change at all in the evening in any restaurant, it gets very boring. Some will say they do change however after 23 days on both ships I have never seen a change, I also find the room service menu boring, almost like a Diner. I tried to get a lobster dinner, which is a special order, and just got the run around. I am really not impressed by the food. I never got a bad meal however there is no wow factor in any of it. I can not recommend SS to a foodie. Accitivies: For a ship with a very small stage their group did a great job. There were six singers who put on various shows, all very good. There was a three piece band which was OK along with a male and female singer who worked the lounge, also OK. I was surprised they didn’t bring in any guest acts. There was a lecturer onboard also. Overall I like SS but after trying them twice I just can’t get excited about their restaurant concept. I would sail them again however at their price point there are better options I believe. Silver Spirit, Montreal to NYC. Have sailed too many cruises to list but over the past 12 months have been on Crystal and Queens Grill in Cunard. This Silver Spirit cruise was a return to Silversea having sailed on Cloud, Wind, Shadow and Whisper in the past (and had all very nice cruise on those other Silversea ships) Ship: Looks brand new, loved the cabin and and cabin bathroom. I found the ceilings too low on some decks and the ship really chopped up (a bit claustrophobic here and there). Some public rooms were too small to handle the ships passengers (Panorama) and some too large (Dolci Vida - which looks like an airport business class lounge). I'm still unsure about the new decor direction, it was really repetitive and kinda boring/cheap looking in some areas. Lighting was awful, in the dining rooms and la Terrazza were all lit like shopping malls. Also on the smaller ships La Terrazza was a beautiful space, on the Spirit, it looked like a mass market ships buffet restaurant. Cabins: Great, they were nicely updated, loved the bathrooms and our butler and cabin steward were tops. No complaints! Food: This is where Spirit falls and falls hard vs her competition. The non changing menus coupled with the new ipad ordering is a mess and will prevent me from sailing Silversea again. You are asked prior to every meal for your room number and name; super mass market. The ipads are slow and not flexible resulting in missed courses, incorrect orders, etc. The first night I never got my entree, was told kitchen was now closed and to order from Room Service, really? Second morning never got my breakfast, only or it to show up on day 7. Want your steak medium, order it rare was the given direction. I also hated the new slate type dishes in Atlantide, it felt like those dishes were all preprepared just waiting for your meat and sauce selection. All veal chops on the ship were inedible (even our waited guided away from ordering them). So in 10 nights, I had the same soup 5 times, same salad and three different steaks that all tasted about the same. Sad for a luxury line. Lunch in Atlantide was great, great daily menus and diverse food selection. We tried LaTerrazza, it was ok, I had the veal - bad choice. Silver Note was fun, but a one and done place. We cancelled LeDame as we didn't want to risk paying $240 for four of us to have the same dreary dinner food we had been having all week. Ports: We missed two and weather was awful, but thats not the ships fault. Its still a beautiful part of the world Service: Overall fine, but really a sense that there are rules to be followed, want a dish from next door? No. Would a bar server ever remember my room number or drink, Nope. Other passengers would let others know alternative menus were available, but never from the staff. 45 minutes between courses, yup...The whole experience felt too mass market compared to Seabourn or Crystal. We had fun thanks to the DJ and other passengers we met, always great meeting others. Since this seems to be the new direction for Silversea, I hope that they get guidance from Royal Caribbean or at least the cash they need to bring their experience levels back up to prior cruises. Awesome service, accommodations and great culinary options! My husband and I boarded this cruise too celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful experience. Despite the bad weather, and missed ports, we enjoyed all the ports we did get to visit! The staff on board accommodated our every whim and the dinning options were fabulous. The rooms are very spacious and serviced twice a day which was very nice. We loved all the common areas and the numerous activities that were offered. We especially enjoyed trivia play each day at 4:45pm. Who doesn't like drinks, friends, and some trivia! We made some wonderful friends on board as well! The ports were beautiful and full of fun and exciting excursions suiting every level of activity. Because of our ship's size we could get into most ports without having to tender to shore. I would definitely recommend this cruise and especially Silversea cruise line. We can't wait to book our next cruise. Read Less

We thought the ports seemed interesting however we were not able to go to 3 of them. The daily activities were lame. Since we had to spend so much time on the boat we were often bored. The food was about a B-,most of the time. Most of the crew was helpful. Overall, the cruise was disappointing. Because the weather was so bad, we feel this trip should not have been scheduled so late in the season. On a positive note, our butler was very helpful and attentive as were waiters in the dining room. The dinner in the gourmet dining room was not worth the $60 a piece price . Also, the food in the Italian dining room was not the quality we expected, so we ate there only once. The breakfast buffet was enjoyable as the selections were vast and well prepared. We will have to give great thought to returning to Silver Seas. Read Less

We took advantage of an opportunity to board a Silversea cruise in our hometown of Portland, Maine. This was an eight day cruise to Montréal that actually started in New York. Overall, we give this cruise five stars out of five! When we cruise, food and service are very important to us, and both were excellent on the Spirit. Less important for us are entertainment and excursions, especially in North America. On this cruise, the entertainment was the weak link. We’d give it three stars out of five. We could have used help with our luggage at embarkation in Portland. I realize this was something of an experiment for Silversea but we all (about 30 of us getting on in Portland) had to bring our own bags on board. Debarkation was easy with two restaurants plus room service available that morning. We had a deluxe veranda suite and it was very spacious although the balcony was something of a waste on this cold-weather cruise. We did not dine in Hot Rocks or Seishin, but all the others were very good to excellent. We found the food and service to be equally good, and the included wines were up to the task. Our butler, Neil, was certainly very attentive and there were several crew who remembered us from a previous cruise on the Muse in April. That made us feel at home. The DJ in Panorama was good, and we really enjoyed the Art Cafe and The Bar in Dolce Vita (hello, Albert!) There was an unusual vibration, one night in particular, that was annoying. We heard several other passengers comment on it as well. I hope it goes fixed before a long trans-Atlantic voyage. The weather was cold but we really didn’t take this cruise for the ports. That said, we really enjoyed the trip up the Saguenay. The scenery was beautiful! All in all, we had an excellent cruise in Silversea! Read Less

We chose Silversea's Montreal to New York based on the itinerary and reputation of the cruise line. The Silver Spirit is definetly upscale with design and excellant, friendly service throughout the ship. The dining options were plentiful and good , not great , which was a bit disappointing . For a 10 day cruise , even though the dining options were varied, the menus stayed the same . It would have been nice to have a more varied menu. The one thing that was nice was the availability of the all around menu at every venue , which did give some additional variety. The Silversea Cafe on deck 8 was a daily staple , with snacks and lattes from 6:30am ... The itinerary lived up to the expectations, excursions we're well planned , and for the most part small. One negative would be the alloted time in some of the ports. The excursions were that good ,but we felt rushed because of time contraints on getting back to the ship. The tour guides were very good other than one on food tour Quebec City , disorganized and tour not as advertised. The major disappointment for those who like to workout was the small exercise area with limited machines and very small area for classes. This could certainly be an enhancement for SilverSea to consider. One suprise was the quality of the entertainment . A very talented troupe of singers and dances (Voices of Silverseas) were absolutely entertainng with the variety of song and dance that we didn't miss a show . Read Less

We chose this cruise because we love the service on Silversea and wanted a small ship experience in cruising the St. Lawrence Seaway to experience fall colors. The timing was perfect as we were able to see the fall colors throughout New England and Canada over the 10 day cruise. The excursions allowed options that customized our experience and we chose a variety including, but not limited to, a seaplane flight in Saguenay, bike ride in Quebec, and a mansion tour and walk along the cliffs in Newport, Rhode Island. There were many opportunities to enjoy local food through tour options. We loved the Lobster Lunch in Halifax and the Sugar Shack in Trois Rivieres! In Bar Harbor, we rented electric bikes on our own at the Pedego Store located right at the dock where we tendered and enjoyed our own ride through the Acadia National Park and town. The remodel of the ship has increased options for dining, however the cold weather limited the options as the Pizza Restaurant and the Grill are outside. That said, they do have outside heaters and blankets so we did choose our favorite dining place, The Grill, a couple of times. The Atlantide, Indochine and La Terrazza allowed a variety of types of culinary experiences. If you book on Silversea, be sure to make restaurant reservations online ahead of the cruise. Some restaurants do not need reservations, but specialty venues do and they fill up. There is always seating in Atlantide and Indochine. The Arts Cafe is fun any time of day, but limited seating with the cold weather. When it is warm outside, there is extended seating on the deck off the back of the ship, however, they did allow us to sit next door in the Silver Note during the day when the Silver note was not serving dinner. We also dined in our suite the first night and our butler delivered, wine, appetizers and main courses all elegantly served in our suite. As for entertainment, the shows were always fun, however we tend to choose only a few that spotlight our taste in music and songs. We loved listening to the piano and guitar music in Doce Vita Lounge on most nights either after the show, or instead of the show. The Silver Note includes a Jazz singer and pianist during dinner, but you can also go in for drinks after the last seating. The layout of the Silver Note in the Spirit is not as nice as the Muse however as the bar is not actually in the restaurant which we really liked in the Muse, so we could actually sit at the bar any time of the evening. We did not care for the destination lecturer on this trip, however he was knowledgeable, but we thought he was a bit boring. On other trips we have enjoyed the lectures, it just depends on personal preference. The lectures can be attended or watched on the TV in your suite later. The cruise director, Jimmy, was outstanding. He happened to be on our last cruise and we were glad to see he was again our director as he is outstanding. All service from the time you step on the ship, till the time you depart, is personal and excellent. We are repeat customers of Silversea due to their service and overall experience. Our next cruise with Silversea will be an expedition to the Galapagos and then bak on the Muse for 14 days in Australia and New Zealand. Read Less

After an illness in the family, we needed some "away" time, but not too far away. So we selected a 10-day cruise up the east coast and down the St. Lawrence to Montreal. Our first cruise on SilverSea and we were not disappointed. Our cabin was larger than on many other cruise lines, the food and service were excellent, our butler and attendant were incredibly friendly, attentive and helpful -- Any request received an almost instant response -- we wanted to bring those two home with us! Staff on the ship were amazing in the way they seemed always to remember our name! Cruise Director, Jimmy Kovel was a real card and always entertaining as well as being on top of many many aspects of the cruise. We have sailed with seven companies; and SilverSea is right at the top of the list! One suggestion would be to engage some experts in various fields for informative lectures on board, especially on days with no port of call.. Read Less

We selected this cruise line because of its purported luxury features, the ports of call and the timing to see the fall colors. To start this is a very dated ship and the accommodations were anything but grand. The air conditioning did not work for the first two days, the live TV programming never worked, the door to our veranda was next to impossible to close and once the ship did get moving the door would pop open on its own (that got repaired), but we still had a whistling noise caused by the wind blowing past the door seals, the cabin floor got flooded one night during rough seas, our bathroom floor had to be repaired because of damaged (chipped) floor marble, we did had to climb into a bath tub to take a shower (kind of hard for old folks in bouncy seas), and a very indifferent customer relations desk. Our cabin was in forward part of the ship and ever time the side thrusters were employed our cabin vibrated and shook with a equal commensurate noise, kind of annoying when you are trying to sleep. But worse of all was a 4 day delay in our departure out of Montreal, which the captain insisted was because of the local port authorities, and kept promising false start times that never occurred and each day there were barges or maintenance devices attached to the ship. On the fourth day we were allowed to leave port with a tug boat shadowing us all the down the St. Lawrence River to Quebec. Due to all the mechanical problems/delays, that were never admitted to us, we lost three ports of call that we were really looking forward visiting plus some day time scenic viewing. Silver Seas did make an adjustment of 30% of our base cruse cost to make up for this loss but - - - -. We had two days of rough seas, that happens when you cruise, but in addition to the bouncing we had a loud metal on metal banging that seemed to come from the hull of the ship which kept us awake a couple of nights. The ship was late arriving in New York at the end of the cruise which was good and not so good. By arriving late we got to see the Port of New York in the early morning light, the bad news they then tried to rush to disembark us which resulted in un-necessary chaos. A verying disappointing cruise, but all of the servicee personnel were very attentive and friendly. Read Less

We chose this cruise to enjoy the fall scenery of Canada, view the whales and other sea life of the St Laurence Seaway and visit Quebec City. When we embarked in Montreal on Tuesday we were not informed of a mechanical failure that occurred when the boat was arriving. Only after awakening Wednesday to the same view did we realize we were still in Montreal and then we were informed of a "small" "technical" "problem" and repairs would allow for a prompt departure. The staff did not go out of their way to develop more excursions. They just provided a $50 credit for us to buy "hop on, hop off" bus tickets. We awoke Thursday to the same view, but the ship had been relocated to a filthy industrial pier filled with containers, among other unattractive items and a splended view of large, rusting grain elevators. They then advised that the Canadian authorities now required an ocean tug to accompany the ship up the St Laurence. So, our departure was now further delayed by "forces beyond the control of the ship" in the ill chosen words of Silversea management, because we had to await the arrival of the tug. This generated concern among the passengers. What was the nature of the "technical problems" and had they been completely addressed and repaired? Why was a tug escort required? We received no answers, but Silversea gave a 30% cash refund. Then they altered the itinerary to canceling stops at the naturalists attractions ports of Saguenay, Baie Comeau , Gaspe, and Charlottetown. Instead, we will be hightailing it to the coal mining town of Sydney and then on to the large city of Halifax. Silversea does not care to try to make amends for their mistakes of not properly maintaining this older vessel. Instead they punish the customers on top of our 3 days in Montreal by canceling the most attractive portion of the cruise. I think they want to get the boat back to a large city for repairs. I will never set foot on a Silversea ship again. As an aside, on our previous Silversea cruise , our stateroom flooded and we were moved to an inferior room Read Less

We chose this cruise specifically because of the itinerary. The best of Canadian Maritime. While the ship itself is in need of a facelift that is not the reason for the rating. Problems in Montreal made it necessary to stay extra days after alreadly arriving earlier than the cruise date. Four (2) key ports were cut from the itinerary. Saguenay, Baie, Gaspe and Prince Edward Island. We were aghast, when only a 30% refund was offered. Without those ports we would NOT reserved this cruise. To make things worse, the Captain was inaccessible to answer questions. He even announce that they had lost "revenue" on this cruise because of the Montreal difficulties. Why should passengers have to hear that? The rest of the staff tried hard to make up for his poor communication and general disregard for the terrible impact his words and action have. All of this leave a very bad taste... a stain on a good reputation...cannot recommend this cruise line to anyone. It as all handled SO badly. I have swum on every cruise I have taken, usually at 6 am. I swim in place with a band around my feet. However the Silver Wind was really open and heated on one full day. I frequently requested that it be filled and heated, so I could swim.I never received a reason why it was not filled or heated. BAD communication and service. Our ship was supposed to leave at 10pm to Quebec. They knew they had a problem and would not be leaving, yet they never told us. Consequently we had an early breakfast in the room, so we could take our tour in Q. Yet we never left Montreal. My wife could have slept in! We left THREE days late! POOR communication! Our cruise director, Colin, was GREAT on the cruise as director, pianist, trivia leader, etc. The cabin bathroom needs more storage space. The cabin was nice size. The food was EXCELLENT! Bar should be open for Trivia at 5. Why not all afternoon and much of the night? Read Less

Silversea is marketed as a pampering and luxury cruise line. However, my experience was not as luxurious as anticipated. A friend warned me that the service/food level had dipped in the last couple of years and we booked nonetheless. The cuisine was mediocre in most restaurants. Atlantide and La Dame were fine as far as the level of cuisine offered, and we loved our meals there, however we found the offerings in the rest of the ship to be less than...not what we expected. Our cabin attendant was very sweet and accommodating. The luggage delivery was late, and not his fault, but we boarded the ship at 2 and didn’t receive our luggage until after 6...beyond annoying. Also, we are used to the service level of Azamara where any food or drink wish was taken care of immediately. We didn’t get a bottle of Ketel One for our room for 2 days. And the level of in room cuisine was also mediocre and almost always cold. The only ports worthwhile were Montreal, Quebec City, Bar Harbor and Boston. The others were boring and lackluster. Silversea should consider paying the higher cost of a longer port stay in the other ports allowing for more time for exploration. Saguenay, Sydney and Baie Comeau didn’t have much to offer, unless you paid for an excursion. I will say the service in the restaurants was excellent. The staff is well trained and very accommodating, friendly. It’s just what they’re serving that we found challenging. We wouldn’t book another cruise on Silversea. Read Less

Good Service, smooth sailing and easy travels was our goal to celebrate my parents 70th anniversary and our mother's 90th birthday. We chose Silver Seas because it claimed smaller, more intimate ships, with a high crew to passenger ratio. In addition, a wheelchair cabin was available, with business class airfare at a lower rate! My sister and I were excited to book this trip for the 4 of us. The cost was high but we wanted our parents to have a first class holiday!! Unfortunately, even before we got on the ship problems began to occur. Some of the major issues were: 1. A 45 minute plus wait at the airport STANDING at the Silverseas kiosk for the shuttle to arrive. (We were told it was a 5 minute wait). Once the bus did arrive we found that there were 8+ steps up to the seating area of the bus. There is no way my mother who is in a wheelchair could handle 5 steps let alone 8. 2. The wheelchair cabin was not well suited for my mothers disability needs. The counters were curved, the toilet too low and so difficult to flush. In addition, the mattress sloped down the sides. Each day was a challenge. My mother found the cabin so uncomfortable, she wanted to leave and go home. To make matters worse, after a few days, the toilet started to smell 3. The port in Montreal was changed and we were not notified. My other sister and family were coming on-board in Montreal, but their visit was cut short because they went to the port in Old Montreal which was the address in the pre-cruise info. 4. We understood 2 ports were tendered, but it turned out to be 3 tender ports 5. The ship got into the New York port late, we had to do a mad rush to get a taxi to JFK as if we went with the transfers we would have missed our noon flight. We made the flight with 2 minutes to spare, but the rush was so stressful and tiring for all of us. It was not all bad, we enjoyed most of the meals. The Arts Cafe had fabulous coffee, sandwiches and little salads. The restaurant servers gave excellent service. Silver Note, La Terraza, Indochine and Atlantide had great menu items, we just wished there were different menus each night. The ports were enjoyable in most cases. Quebec city, Boston and Halifax were most enjoyable. We would have liked to have Maine lobster in Bar Habour, but could not as this was a tender port. We traveled on many different cruiselines, Viking does a much better job with disabled customers and Crystal seems to have better cuisine. Silverseas has many good itineraries and excellent service, but needs to improve its care for customers with special needs. Read Less

We chose this trip with 3 other couples for a luxury ship fall foliage tour; weather was mostly bad, but that is just bad luck. Excursions handled by the ship were poor to average and the entire experience was not quite what we had expected or paid for. The cabin was excellent and the food was very good as well. Service was a little spotty as the ship was completely full, but I still expected more attentive service; the best service was from the butler & room staff. The fitness center was very small & very disappointing; several people that were in there while I was working out made the same comment. We had a problem with the flight set up by the cruise line, and the issue was handled very, very poorly which put a bad taste in our mouths even before we finally arrived at the ship later in the trip. Overall the experience was not a 5 or 6 star one and was less than we had expected. Read Less

There were lots of restaurant choices and all the ones we went to were great. The Spa was also very good and the service was great. The transfer from the Hotel to the ship was anything but smooth and organized. The people in charge had no organizational skills what so ever. Very very disorganized. Going trough immigration in Bar Harbor was also a major cluster disaster. What was on the daily sheet was not the same as the people in the halls. Very confusing and totally dis organized. And then there was getting off the ship. If we though the other times were bad we had no idea that getting off the ship was going to be worse. The colored tags on the bags made no difference in how the hole process was going on. The excuse was the we were late on the account of wind. I can't see how you can blame stupidity and no organizational skills on the Wind. I was very disappointed in the way things were handled. Not at all up to the Silver Sea Standards we have Been accustom to. I sure hope you get your act together in the future. Not sure at this time if I will go back with Silver Sea may have to try some other's. Read Less

Having recently sailed on Regent Explorer and Seabourn Encore, we wanted to return to Silversea and try out the “new” Silver Spirit. We were not disappointed. We had a lovely trip from Montreal to NYC on the Spirit. The weather didn't cooperate, thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Michael, but the fall colors were spectacular, even in the rain! The ship itself is lovely and comfortable, and the newly refurbished/created lounges and restaurants are beautifully done. The food was delicious and nicely presented. We prefer a “main dining room”, and took most dinners in Atlantide- beautiful room, super service. The menu never changed, which became quite repetitive by the end of the trip. We enjoyed our dinners at Silver Note with its striking presentations, and the Italian fare at La Terraza as well. Our newly redone cabin was spacious and comfortable as well (the huge sink in the bathroom was an odd and awkward choice). Service throughout our trip was top-notch: gracious, friendly and prompt yet not obsequious. The crew was extremely courteous and helpful to my mother, who used the wheelchair we had rented more than expected on this trip. The stretching and refurbishment of the Spirit are a big success! We had a great time aboard ship and in port. The hiccups came at the beginning and the end of the trip. I'll start at the end. Disembarkation in NYC was a nightmare. For some reason, while we had been right on time up to our berth in Midtown, something happened which necessitated the ship to be turned around before docking, resulting in a 90 minute delay. Needless to say, the crowd gathered in Dolce Vita was restless, and the lack of information didn't help the situation. When we did make our way off the ship to claim our luggage, there was no personnel to assist as it was all hands on deck to just get the bags off the ship. With my mother in a wheelchair, I finally found a cart and we made our way to the buses to the airport, to find total chaos. It was the blind leading the blind, and the "Silversea" personnel directing traffic were, forgive the pun, at sea...not good when people are trying to make connections across town. We eventually made our way onto the bus, and did make our flight. I'm sure others weren't as lucky. I heard a lot of very negative comments about the way the disembarkation was handled, which put a damper on an otherwise great vacation. Our trip also began with some chaos. We opted for the pre-cruise night at the InterContinental. The fire alarm and subsequent evacuation of the hotel were NOT part of the package. The activity was handled very poorly, and I’ve expressed my concerns to both the hotel and Silversea. I know that Silversea doesn't control what the hotel does, but they need to know what's going on in the properties they use. May you never have a similar experience! Happy sailing! Read Less

Wanted to cruise the changing of the leaves in Canada and New England. The ship is wonderful the crew is also overboard at helping. Our butler Oscar and out maid Evelyn were just superb. The weather was not the best, but such is life. The only downside to the entire trip was the tenders. The tenders on two occasions caused tours to be cut short, both times the scheduled departure from the ship was delayed almost an hour. The most annoying being Newport, we were scheduled to tour the Vanderbuilt mansion, but had to cut it short to get back for the final tender. Other than the tenders, every other aspect of the ship, crews and food was excellent. I will be sure to check any ports in the future that require tenders, especially if they are as expensive as the Vandebuilt one. If there is a tender I definitely will not pay to get off the ship. The 5 stars are for the cruise only. The pre and post cruise services are definitely the weak link. We had booked transfers through Silversea. No one was waiting at the airport as we had been told. We dragged our luggage all over the airport on a wild goose chase until we found the transfer company. The pre-cruise night at the Intercontinental was a nightmare. Check in was very difficult, the fire and evacuation at midnight was handled terribly by the hotel, having our luggage picked up from our room by the transfer service in the morning was a 3 hour process. The Silversea hotel representatives were no help at all. Once we got to the port, everything changed. Embarkation was quick and easy. Our veranda cabin was perfect. Our cabin was in the “stretched” section with a nice big shower only. We loved everything about our cabin. Our butler Raphal and room attendant Larry took great wonderful care of us. Raphal even made sure we always had distilled water for my husbands cpap. Since they knew I liked champagne, they always had a chilled bottle ready for us. We tried all of the restaurants and enjoyed the food, wine, and especially the excellent service. La Dame was a very memorable meal for us! The destination speaker Corey Sandler was so informative and his tips added a lot of enjoyment to each of our stops. We enjoyed Quebec City, Bar Harbor, Boston, and Newport the most. The cruise down the Saguenay River was stunningly beautiful. It would have been nice to skip the smaller ports and have overnights in some of the nicer ports. The weather was awful due to the hurricane remnants and it was so nice to come back to our warm cozy cabin after being in port all day. We were very late arriving in New York City. Again, once off the ship, the transfer services were a mess. They took a long, out of the way route to the airport and they didn’t know which terminals were where. Many people missed their flights. We ended up getting off at one terminal and walking well over a mile to the correct terminal. If we cruise with Silversea again, we will book our own flights and hotel. Read Less

Our dinners were really made wonderful because of Karolina, the head wine steward. She was a delight! Breakfast was not up to par. The service at breakfast was VERY slow! Painfully SLOW! The shore excursions were lacking! It appeared that the ship wasn't aware of how poor some of the excursions were. The walking tour at Trois Riveres was so bad that most people left the tour before it was 1/2 done. The tour at Syndey, walking tour, was also way below par! Again, many of us left the tour & went on our own. The gift shop was the worst I have ever seen on a ship. (This is our 8th cruise). The gems were (some) lovely but the prices were extremely inflated. This is the first time we haven't purchased something from a ship gift shop. It lacked things were that would be needed on a trip, I.E. a hat, a sweatshirt, a poncho for the rain, a scarf, etc. Would we go again? Never on this itinerary! Never to stop in Syndey, Canada. Why do you stop there? There is absolutely NOTHING worth seeing or doing in Sydney! When we disembarked in Montreal it was a free for all! VERY UNORGANIZED. It was cold, rainy and windy. Some of us were left to fend for ourselves in the elements. We finally found someone to help with our luggage & paid him for his help. It was much appreciated. We took the tour of Montreal, again, not up to the Silverseas standards. When we arrived at the Montreal airport it was once again a free for all. Very disappointing. On another note, the hotel in New York, The Parker is also below the expected standard for Silverseas! Read Less

Embarkation from NYC was fabulous. We arrived in the city a few days early and enjoyed our time there. The ship is clean, well maintained, and attractive. Our cabin was the same. Roshan and Aaron were fantastic at their duties, always friendly and happy to comply with our requests. We enjoyed most of the dining rooms although we did not go to LaDame because of the upcharge. I can't praise the cruise director, Jimmy, enough. His sense of humor and accessible demeanor made the trip very enjoyable. (I still can't get over the trivial pursuit answer of "The Bodyguard.') As for entertainment, I'd have to say I enjoyed the guitarist most of all. His music selections were ideal and his talent shone with each performance. The other entertainers were quite fun, talented, and friendly. I think my one negative comment would be the need to choreograph the shows more professionally. Now, to the ports. I feel that the Trois Rivieres port could have been omitted and more time spent in Quebec City. The rest of the ports each offered sights and information that were beneficial and enjoyable. As for the shore excursions, the tour guides were fabulous. Each had wonderful senses of humor and their enthusiasm for their home towns was quite apparent and much appreciated. We did not travel with children. Actually, we saw no children on the ship. Of course, it occurred after the start of school. I would return to Quebec City; in fact, we did just that after we disembarked. As for the other ports, none stand out as places to return. This was our second cruise with Silversea, and we loved it equally as much! The ship was renovated earlier in the year, so the cabin was state of the art. It was especially helpful to have a bedside electrical outlet for my C-Pap machine. And USB ports for charging devices was a plus. The bathroom is so spacious and the shower beats mine at home, with its instant hot water! The bed was so comfy that we slept well every night. We ate at all of the restaurants sans one. The food was beyond fabulous, interesting and beautifully presented. Our butler and room attendant were both very kind, attentive, and caring people. We enjoyed the excursions, which were varied and interesting. My top three: The smaller ship makes for a more intimate vacation, the attentive and caring staff, who appear to never have a bad day; and no 'little darlings' on board! Read Less

We picked this cruise to celebrate our 75th and 80th birthdays! It was the perfect venue. My husband has mobility issues and the size of the Silver Spirit was manageable for him. The staff was outstanding in assisting him with the shore excursions. Our butler was very attentive and we enjoyed the daily breakfast in our stateroom complete with tablecloth and the finery of a hotel. The food is absolutely superb. The restaurants and menu selections are extensive and a culinary delight. We didn't pass up breakfast, lunch or dinner. We ate too many desserts! The entire crew is courteous and efficient and made our voyage delightful. Our suite was decorated with happy birthday balloons and we each received a fabulous, individual cake. The smooth sailing took us to ten destinations filled with beautiful venues and historic sites. All expertly described by the tour guides. Three on shore lunches were indeed a delight! Read Less

We decided to cruise with 7 other friends in our community and always had this itinerary on our ‘bucket list’. The newly renovated ship and its size and amenities seemed to fulfill our requirements.Pre-cruise contacts with Esther Paine from Silverseas were excellent, and we embarked with high expectations for personalized service. Pre-planning of excursions and dining reservations went smoothly with web site. The arrival of the trip diary and luggage tags confirmed this.We had our own pre-arrival and hotel plans, but once we arrived at embarkation port, Silversea took over and we had smooth quick, transition. The cabin was perfect for us, impeccably clean with great service from our butler and porter.Everyone on board ship was smiling, curteous and so willing to serve us! We had anticipated use of the cabin bar, but found that there was constant offering of any liquors mixed drinks, wine, and specialized coffees in so many venues, that we failed to even open one of our bottles of liquor. Being able to freely move about the ship with our abundant choices in restaurants for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or in-between, (or have breakfast room service) allowed us to savor so many different cuisines, that we cancelled our reservation in La Dame.We were never disappointed in Indocine, Atalantide, or LaTerraza. Wine stewards and servers always tried to please us with choices. We were never able to fully take advantage of late-night entertainment, since the 10PM starting time was prohibitive. We enjoyed the ‘cultural’ lectures by Corey Sandler and would suggest more of the same. The guides on our shore excursions were excellent, especially in Saguenay, Sydney,(walking tour) and in extended PEI tour. We were so disappointed that the Fabuleuse performance was cancelled due to poor reservation sign-up, but S/S did not advertise it properly! Triois Rivieres was disappointment, and was not a good investment. Didn’t find anything of interest in Bar Harbor either. Cultural excursions in Boston might include art museums.. we planned our own and used cab service. Our experience persuaded us to sign on for another cruise next year. Read Less
