We just returned from a Silverseas sailing on Silver Spirit from Barcelona to Rome. It was our first time with Silversea. I would give this cruise a mixed review. Likes: I liked our specious suite and the service was quite good.  Dislikes: The dining options are rather limited. I did not like the fact that dinner started late- 7pm at the earliest.  And, I also thought the dress code on non formal nights was too formal. There was also no casual dining options in the evening except for room service. The shows were also on late - at 10pm. I would prefer the option to eat at 6 and go to a show at 8 or even 9. Also, I got ill- food poisoning. I am pretty sure it was from an oyster in the lunch buffet. I was sick all night, and then quarentined all the next day. After I recovered I was fine the rest of the trip. While I enjoyed luxury crusing, I don't think I would do Silversea again as I would prefer earlier dining options/earlier shows/less formal dining options. Read Less

We had a fabulous experience in virtually every way two years ago on the Silver Wind so we were really looking forward to another cruise with Silversea. We chose this trip because of it's itinerary, but little did we expect that the excursions would be led by such poor guides and leaving us with a very unsatisfied feeling about the cost vs value received . Realistically, the rest of the cruise could have been perfect but with excursions being so poor and also VERY expensive, it is hard to come away with a good feeling about the TOTAL experience. In fairness: the food was excellent, the ship offered an outstanding sommelier program which was truly a highlight (and FREE), excellent guest speaker from Columbia University, our butlers were fantastic and totally on the ball, the wines served on the cruise were very interesting, often regional according to port and well thought out, dinner at La Dame was amazing and even for a non-sushi lover-the food at Senshei was excellent, entertainment was very good most nights but not as frequent as it could have been in my view, bar service and restaurant was top notch and very accomodating. One last item-the ship is very dated decor wise but we were told it is going to be retrofitted next year. Read Less

We cruised on Silversea's Spirit from Barcelona to Rome, August 8, 2017 for 9 days. We chose Silversea's because of their sterling reputation for service and they did not let us down, and I commend the Silverseas staff who are professional, warm and engaging. They get to know their guest's quickly -however there were other areas that disappointed us greatly. The ship itself was in good to average shape but starting to show some wear and tear and in need of a re freshening. Our veranda cabin was a nice size and comfortable BUT the restroom had a horrible smell that pretty much ruined our cruise from day one. The staff (both housekeeping and engineering) worked diligently to try and find the cause and correct it, but unfortunately they were never able to. I immediately brought this odor issue to the attention of our butler, his supervisor, engineering, the head of housekeeping and guest relations. I honestly believe it was an embarrassment to them and it should be. We were never offered another cabin or any kind of compensation, which I thought was surprising and disappointing. The service at the dining venues was excellent, the food was good, but I felt like the hours of operation of the restaurants were too rigid. I was also disappointed that for the evening meal there was no type of buffet option like on Seabourn or Oceania. In all fairness they offer room service 24 hours, but that is not what I was looking for. I was not very impressed with the excursions. Most of them tended to be longer than necessary and not much in the way of enrichment. Of the 5 excursions we did, only 2 were truly enjoyable and fun. Next time I cruise it will probably be with Seabourn. Read Less

Silver Muse was a brand new cruise ship first set sail in April 2017. It was the main reason we signed up for this journey. Externally, the ship is an impressive vessel. Internally, it didn't give an impression of a brand new ship, in terms of design, decoration, materials used and furniture. It looks 'old', not a trace of plushness. The quality of the staff was uneven. While our cabin butler and suite attendant were politeand efficient, the staffs at the F & B outlets was uneven and left us with an impression of disorganised and undertrained. Some even have difficulties in communicate in English. Managers at some high-end restaurants were not guest-friendly and approachable. They would have to be told in order to squeeze out some warmth. The price we paid for this cruise was 'all inclusive'- food, drinks, wine, liquor and gratuity for the services. In terms of food and drinks, you always have to ask, meaning it will not be offered to you automatically. For example: 1. Upon checking into the cabin, some guests were offered champagne. The rest you'll have to ask. 2. All F &B outlets will offer the guests its own open bottles of flat or sparkling(hardly) water. Other name brands, you'll have to ask, every time. 3. White and red wine of a few brands will be offered at each venue. Guests can request for other brands subject to availability, or pay for more premium wine. (we're not connoisseurs, but found most wine offered disappointing, considering the good quality wine in Europe at a most reasonable prices). Following is our review of the restaurants: 1. Atlantide serves meat and seafood. Steaks were good, some tender and juicy e.g. filet magnon pending nights. Grilled Mediterranean Sea Bream recommended by the waitress was dry and flavourless. 2. La Terrazza serves Italian buffet breakfast and lunch and a la carte for dinner. Buffets were sumptuous with good salad, cold items, sushi and sashimi. Overall rating is above average. 3. Indochine(a Vietnamese name) serves South East Asian cuisine including Thai and Indian. We only tried once for dinner. The sampler starter with 2 other items were disappointing and unauthentic. The chicken curry and prawn were okay taste-wise but poorly presented. Overall rating is below average. 4. Kaiseki serves sushi/sashimi for lunch and teppanyaki for dinner(at usd60 per head). We only tried once for lunch with a total 6-7 guests including us. The Filipino chef rushed around with most servings already prepared. It seemed his knife badly needed sharpening. All salmon sashimi pieces were cut jagged. Frankly this chef is not qualified as a sushi chef. Overall rating is below average. 5. Siver Note serves 'revamped' Tapa cuisine but most did not looked or could be calledTapas. The signature starter was 'Beehives' with a large plate with 'indentations' filled with dollar-sized bits of prepared food or 'slurps'. Some was overtly spicy. Out ladies hated it. The lobsters were mushy and my octopus dish was unimpressive. The saving grace was an excellent jazz duo who entertained guests into late night. Overall rating is below average. 6. The Grill and Spaccanapoli are actually one restaurant located on 2 levels by the poolside. The Grill serves steaks and seafood cooked on sizzling hot stones in frontof the sit-down guests during dinner and light lunch with grilled fish, paella or roast-of-the-day while Spaccanapoli serves pizzas on the upper deck with limited seatings. By far the Grill was the best on board restaurant which served better cooked, better quality steaks and seafood than other more formal and higher-end restaurants below with an efficient manager and energetic serving staff. Overall rating is very good! 7. La Dome serves French fare and costs usd60 per head, open only for dinner. The restaurant was hard to book. The manager was most inapproachable and unfriendly. We managed to pull some strings for a dinner booking prior to the end of our cruise. Due to our displeasure with the treatment by the manager who was replaced by a Portugese national manager who provided us with one of the most satisfying dinner (with wine pairing) on board. Overall rating(food and service) is excellent. Following is our impressions on our cabin(849): The cabin was smaller than described in the brochure. Good-sized walk-in closet with ample closet space, drawers and safe. Sleeping area is separated with curtains from sitting area. There were 2 hard-to-find TVs hidden behind the mirror wall, one for watching from bedand the other from sitting area. Day light from the balcony and evening interior lighting made viewing quality diminished. TV sound system was poor. The sound insulation of the party wall behind the TVs was seriously inadequate. We could hear the sound of TV from our next cabin whenever it was on. Assigned butler and suite attendant tidied up the cabin twice a day with fresh bed linen replaced. Cabin balcony is of good-size with chairs, footrests and a small round low table. Luggage space was designed to be stowed away under the bed(s). Not enough space was allowed for luggage racks although 2 were provided. Bathroom is equipped with a single lavatory, a tub, a shower stall and an airplane-type water-less water closet which let out loud noise whenever used during day or night. Shower stall is equipped with both overhead rain-shower and regular shower head. A flip of the shower lever, one could get a headful of wet hair! It was set that way. One must remember to quickly pull the lever to change into shower head mode. Often there was residual water dripping from the rain shower head which could be annoying. The engineering staff seemed unable to fix it. The interior space of the shower stall is barely adequate for managing a 5' 10"/1.75m, 150 lb/69kg male. There was no wall-mounted make-up mirror provided in the bathroom. A rectangular concave mirror was placed on the lavatory counter. My wife sat on the side of the tub to do her make-up, the only way to use that mirror. Bathrobes were from Etro, but too small even for my size. The robe fabric was too hard and uncomfortable to wear despite the nice design and good quality. Bathroom amenities including shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were from Bvgari, in regular plastic bottles in green colour. Bottle sizes were good to last several days andnot replace daily. We also experienced a terrible and most unfortunate incident happened during our cruisewhich totally affected our enjoyment of the cruise. I had written a long letter to Silvesea requesting their response on July 1, 2017. We have yet to hear from them. Read Less

My second Spirit cruise to the Monaco Monte Carlo GP. The trip to and from race was efficient. The Ballet school gives a good view of the race circuit. I love the Spirit and the crew. The only disappointing and extremely annoying aspect was the internet service. I purchased the premium service at app $30/day and the service was spotty, disconnected from the internet many, many times /session. I have travelled on the Spirit many times and this was by far the worst and most expensive internet service yet. The crew is, as always, excellent. Food menu is predictable but adequate. Chef always available to provide meals of choice. Italian restaurant ( La Terrazza) menu changes every 3 days. As I have been on board so many times, the entertainment show themes stay the same, the performers change every 4 months. I have my favourite wines but the head sommelier always offers alternatives. I thought it might be helpful to compare the 2 as we were on the Seaborne Sojourn last summer. Ship/cabin Sojourn is newer ship with a contemporary understated elegance. It remained me of a Four Seasons hotel. Silver Wind is an older somewhat dated ship. It was refurbished in 2013 but I am not sure what t they did. There was no movie streaming in the room but a DVD library, kind of like going to Blockbuster 10 years ago The Sojourn cabin was slightly larger than Silver Wind and had a better floor plan. Silver Wind cabin furniture was a little congested. The big difference was the bathroom. Sojourn was twice the size with a separate bath and shower and 2 sinks which made my wife very happy. Silver Sea combo shower/tub with 1 sink. Food We took a tour of the Sojourn galley and met the head chef. The emphasis was on fresh. The chef went to the market each day at the port and bought fresh produce, fruit, eat a seafood from the local market. It showed in the quality with meals being good or great. The Silver Wind seafood and meat were all frozen thus the food was mediocre ranging from good to awful What make this partially offensive is Silver Sea is owned by an Italian family where excellent fresh food is a part of the culture Staff/service Both excellent getting most of what you wanted promptly. The difference is the Sojourn staff seemed to be enjoying themselves and we noticed some of the Sea Wind staff seemed to want to be somewhere else and were just going through the motions The Silver Wind was actually more expansive so the value was heavily tilled toward Sojourn Read Less

We are in our 70's and this was a cruise with friends, back to back Barcelona/Civitavecchia/Barcelona. Embarkation was smooth but one of our cases got misplaced on debarkation causing a bit of a panic. Service was, for the most part outstanding, including cabin steward, butler, maitre d's, waiters, bar staff, room service. All excellent. The food however was a big disappointment in the main dining room sometimes cold, not very tasty, tough meats. Pasta was usually good but over salted. Seishin (extra cost) was particularly poor, and the Italian restaurant was average. Champagne restaurant was outstanding both times we went. but you have to pay extra for that. Many people we talked to commented on the poor food and particularly Seishin. Wines were average at best, the wine we kept going back to was a Bogle Chardonnay that is about $8 in the grocery stores. One could of course pay extra for wine, but on a cruise costing $1000 per day one expects better. Wifi was abysmally slow. The decor on the ship is looking very tired and dark. Our cabin furniture was showing signs of wear and dents. Silversea is, I believe, in a cost cutting mode in an attempt to improve profitability. Good Luck with that approach. Read Less

Last month we embarked on The Silver Sea Silver Spirit for what we believed would be a superb experience. We could not have been more disappointed!. The only part of the cruise that met our expectations was the cabin and butler(although at first he was hard to understand, he was fabulous). Let me tell you about dining on board: mediocre service and poor quality food. What we saw is what what we would have expected from a large 3000 passenger vessel which would have cost much much much less that what we paid. We had traveled with Seaborne where the food and service were first class and we expected the same. At the Silver Spirit, most of the waiting staff was not as solicitous as they should have been, but the worse part is that the food just was not good. For example, I ordered a steak and salad by the pool, and the meat I received was inedible. The tuna sandwich was a thin spread of tuna on a non very appetizing bread. The panini was cold...etc,etc,etc....When we ordered drinks by the pool, we waited 20 minutes!!!The main restaurant was a 6 out of 10...the only restaurant that I would consider visiting again was The Hot Rock Grill... The entertainers were beyond bad. The dancers had no grace or talent. I have found that there is usually a big difference between the disembarkation at a luxury line and all others. The exception to this rule was of course the Silver Spirit. We disembarked in Canes. I believe that the original itinerary indicated Monte Carlo, but that was provably changed due to the prince's wedding. Disembarkation was not at a port, but in tenders, and at first they seemed to have it organized well. Passengers were waiting in the lounges until they were called by assigned color and it went quick. We expected to see the luggage organized in a similar way at the port. It was not!, most of the luggage had not even arrived at port. We had to wait in the sun (without any facilities) and then crowd around vans that were bringing the luggage to search for it. We had 4 pieces of luggage and 3 of them came in 3 separate vans. The last one was lost! It was recovered and brought to us at the airport a couple of hours later. We would not consider another voyage in Silver Sea... Read Less
