Thought Silversea's was a high end cruise line. Veteran cruiser with many trips on Oceania, Princes,and many other lines. First: disappointing customer service. We are in our mid 50s, have done 6 cruises with 5 carriers and this was the worse. Electric wheelchairs, walking frames, everywhere. The average age group is 70+. They love not leaving their rooms or the ship for 2 weeks so it suits them. I sailed on the silver spirit a few years ago when butlers wore white gloves, the food was excellent in all areas of the ship. A key ring light was beside your bed if you needed it in the dark. Nuts and smarties were replenished in the room as well if you wanted to nibble with a wine. What a disappointment this one was. This cruise (Papeete to Auckland) was a disappointment from start to finish. Check in was horrible - long queue outside the ship in the hot sun, 5 different check in points over a long distance, being asked for my passport 5 times, then a 2 hour wait in one of the ship's bars because my room wasn't ready. Chose this cruise as dates and itinerary fitted our schedule. Usually cruise with Regent Seven Seas. So this was the standard for comparison. Great itinerary. I think you can see the changes now that Royal Caribbean is the new owner.The food was fair at best. For a cruise of this length there was not enough change. Menu seemed to change only after 7 days. Many sauces slopped on all entries. Breakfast and lunch were fair at best. Many lunch items were inedible. I think they were not buying quality meats. Lawrence was amazing in talking about wine, so much so, fasting and not eating would have been an option. But not one beef serving was edible. We laughed at lunch when the knife could not cut the beef and the kangaroo was more tender. chose the cruise for silver sea reputation and ports of call. too many sea days, some ports of call were a total waste of time. could have stayed longer in main ports, bali and perth. perhaps cost of ports was too high to remain there. would not recommend this ship or ports of call to anyone. excursion director had poor attitude and not professional. restaurants excluding pool area ...
