This cruise was chosen for a combination of itinerary and lifestyle. We wanted to sail Silversea again, and this itinerary ticked all the boxes. Here is a small review of that cruise, 3930 Piraeus round trip. Several factors are worthy of mention .... some good and some bad. BOARDING PROCEDURES Nothing but complements. Less than 15 minutes from exiting the taxi to relaxing in the lounge. ACCOMMODATIONS: The suite was clean, tidy and well presented. It could be argued that the style was ‘dated’ but that is a matter of opinion. I am surprised that there were no USB plugs in the suite. Perhaps this could be considered for the future? CATERING: This would be my main area of concern. La Terrazza: At breakfast and lunch, once it started getting mildly busy the staff were unable to cope. The buffet area is far too small and long queues frequently formed. I understand that enlarging this area is NOT on the agenda. Having been seated, service was again, at busy times, particularly slow, sometimes non existent! On one occasion we gave up and left. The small serving area did not allow for any Ice Cream so that was a special request ... with the appropriate wait. The main concern in this restaurant was hygiene. For the first few days the area was infested with flies. The main restaurant area had several but more concerning were number flying around in the food service area and on the food itself. This problem however was overshadowed when my wife found to her disgust and dismay a live caterpillar on the lettuce in the buffet area. This matter was raised at the time and apologies were made. This level of hygiene totally and utterly unacceptable. On an evening the restaurant was exceptional. Service was prompt and the food was excellent. MAIN DINING ROOM: Generally speaking the service, at breakfast and lunch, was far superior to La Terrazza, but again, on an evening, once it started to get mildly busy the service went into meltdown. It was not unusual to be ignored for twenty minutes. On the positive side we did ask for two ‘special’ dishes which were excellent. A Chateaubriand (for two) and a Beef Wellington ( for one). One ‘corked’ wine Read Less

It should be the first cruise and should be a great experience. On closer inspection, the ship was outmoded, worn and not up to date. Data transfer to iphone or laptop a sheer catastrophe. The bed width (we had twinbeds) only 80 cm - with a little swell you threatened to fall out. There should be a butler individually available to each cruise guest (which was mathematically completely impossible) - but that per Butler 15 guests were to look after, shows how rarely one had "his" butler actually available. The entertainment events were rather of moderate quality. Good were the mostly Filipino staff in the cabin cleaning and in the service of the three restaurants. In this overall form you can not advise a trip on the SilverShadow.A clear difference was also noticeable when offered dinner in the inclusive restaurant "the restaurant". We ate there twice and in both cases the food was extremely salted and we let things go back. Good were only the food in the two restaurants, where the drinks were charged separately. Read Less

The ship is new and is beautiful! But we have been on many other ocean and river cruises and, aside from the ship, the price point is not justified. We did not see our butler until we called him to the room and hardly saw him after that. While some meals were outstanding, in general the cuisine was not any better than what we have experienced on Uniworld and Tauck river cruises at far lower price points. We found the experience at The Grill restaurant to be underwhelming. The cuisine and service in the main restaurant was at times great and at other times poor. The best experiences were at the breakfast and lunch buffets. The onboard experience was also a bit lacking. There was only one show nighty, usually at 10 PM, which is a bit late when the morning tours start at 8 AM. The performances were less than impressive. We all took tours at each of the stops and found that more than half of them were not that good; especially for the price points charged for each of them. Read Less

We chose Silversea because we wanted to enjoy a luxury cruise and visit beautiful ports in Greece and Italy. We have traveled Silversea in the past and have been very pleased by the experience. However, this experience did not meet expectations. The Ship was old and was in need of refurbishment. She is still a beauty but needs some work to make her look more fresh and inviiting. Our cabin was as expected in terms of the space and layout of the room. However, the plumbing was an issue. We experienced toilets not flushing and an overflow of water on the floor. This was a common occurrence on our floor and in all the cabins. Our room had a nasty smell that made sitting on the balcony almost impossible. Who would want to smell raw sewage on a luxury cruise!! We were told that chemicals would be used to take care of the odor but apparently the chemicals did not work. The food was above average to exceptional. However, the buffet dishes were not hot and were greasy and dirty no matter how many dishes we put to the side. We sat on the outside veranda and the place mats were never changed or cleaned between sittings. There were always crumbs from everyone else's meal on the table stuck in the place mats. The ice cream scoop utensil was dipped in a tin of water to rinse off and the water was not running. This is unsanitary and disgusting. The TV entertainment was below standard. Carnival Cruise Lines has a greater variety. The Entertainers/Shows were very good but there needs to be more variety. The Ports and Shore Excursions were very good. However 48 hours in one port was not well thought out by the cruise director. The fact that we were in Greece and Sicily made this an event to remember. However, the level of cleanliness needs to be addressed and for this reason alone, we would probably not recommend Silversea or travel this cruise line again. This was not a luxury cruise on the Silversea we remembered. Read Less

Chose cruise for itinerary. Usually sail with Crystal and I missed them! This ship pretty but staterooms' soundproofing lacking because TVs were in wall. Could hear neighbors' TV right through the wall, Food was not memorable and passengers had no open seating option. Had to reserve every night--earliest was a 7 p.m. reservation. One show each night at 9:45 or 10 p.m. --not good for those passengers who go to bed before midnight. Tiny library. Service was excellent. Scenery and excursions very enjoyable. Went a day early to Athens. Very nice hotel stay with concierge level upgrade. Enjoyed Silversea's provision for business class flights. Traveled by myself as I usually do and encountered some staff who did not react as I would have expected. Given my experience, I doubt I will be taking another cruise with Silversea. I have conveyed everything I have said here in my surveys on the ship and in conversations with staff on board so nothing in this review should surprise them. Missed having lectures to prepare for port visits. Great fitness option Read Less

We've cruised with Silversea for more than 19 years because we loved its style, intimate atmosphere an excellent food and service. Of course some things needed technological adjustments and renovation in suite confort and decoration. Now Silver Muse suits offer world class amenities and decoration. Dining options are more varied. But apparently minor changes, such as the dress code, or the cancellation of the no reservation policy of the main dining room have dramatically changed the ship´s signature style and atmosphere! Now you find in common areas men in black or white tie, along with others with no tie or jacket, ladies in evening dressing gowns, along with others in sport attire, and even some wearing bathrobes on the aisles. You feel over dressed or under dressed, or even ridiculous! Enrichment lectures were one of the things I enjoyed. Learning about the culture and history about the places you were about to visit from renowned specialists. This time we visited sites with a rich past, such as Bergamo, Troy, or Ephesus and the lecturer was speaking about Frank Sinatra! This was absolutely not an enrichment lecture! All the staff were friendly and the food was excellent, although in some restaurants and in the pool service was slow at peak hours. I understand the trend to move to big ships and to different customers responds to economic reasons, but if this is the case, why not sell Silver Muse as a different trade mark? I wish Silversea could keep on renovating its smaller ships, but keep the same refined style and excellent service that have gained it world recognition. Read Less

We are 12 times cruisers, 3 with silversea. We were looking forward to being on a new ship as the last Silversea ship had some problems with leaks into our suite, it was due for refurb. The new dining arrangements on Silver Muse didn't suit us and from speaking with other guests onboard they all agreed. The fact that there was no dining room where you could walk up and ask to be sat at a table of 4 or 6 took a lot of the joy of cruising away. We enjoy talking with other guest from around the world over dinner. I spoke with the ship's hotel manager and he acknowledged they had a problem and were looking at ways to remedy. It is a big problem for him with the ship's design not suitable to have a "main dining room". Other than the dining problem most other aspects of the cruise went well, the staff were efficient and friendly, we enjoyed the trivia, ( where we met other guests), the ports were interesting and the weather was kind to us. We may cruise with Silversea again but NEVER on Silver Muse if the dining arrangements remain the same. Read Less
