This was our third trip on Silversea in an Owner's Suite. We did Alaska--Anchorage to Vancouver on this cruise. Silver Muse was only about a year old. We found the decor to be comparable to Silversea standards, but modernized. We prefer the older, warmer decor, but recognize that Silversea must keep up with the times. Compare my pictures of Silver Muse with my pictures of Silver Shadow (we were on the final voyage of Silver Shadow before its makeover). As you probably know, Royal Caribbean bought Silversea a year ago. It may be starting to show. 1. There have always been binoculars in Owner's Suites in the past. Now eliminated. 2. Service in the restaurants on Silver Muse has deteriorated compared to our prior experience. There were inordinately long waits between courses. And it wasn't just us. We had recommended Silversea to an informal group of 15, and everybody had similar experiences. Our next to last night took the cake. We were in one of their specialty restaurants (Silver Note). Our reservation was for 8:00, and we arrived at that time. At 9:50, we had only been served an appetizer. We had waited an hour following our appetizer, and still had not been served our main course. That is when we walked out. Perhaps, they have reduced the wait staff to the point that service does not meet their prior standards. Or, perhaps, because of the expansion of the fleet, they have been forced to promote staff before they were ready. 3. They have installed Royal Caribbean's Cellular at Sea system on the Silversea cruise ships (I don’t recall that on my prior Silversea cruises). Having spent my career in the wireless industry, let me assure you that there is no bigger rip-off than Cellular at Sea. You can easily spend far more on Cellular at Sea, than the cost of your cruise. We worried that despite blocking our phones from connecting to Cellular at Sea, that we would unintentionally unblock it, and incur thousands of dollars in charges (thousands of dollars is not hyperbolic). 4. Restaurant reservations have been impossibly frustrating for me on Silversea. At the beginning of this cruise it occurred to me that I should probably make reservations for our next cruise, even though it was still 50 days away. Here is what I got: 11 not available, and 14 waitlisted. I was unable to make a single reservation--not one. I advised my cruise consultant that for future bookings he must set his alarm clock for midnight on the day reservations open and call me so that I don't miss the window of opportunity. (In fairness, our butler was able to make reservation for all the restaurants during our next cruise.) 5. Silversea is remodeling their owner's suites and eliminating the convenient U-shaped bars. They are putting in little cabinets that simply are not as nice or convenient for me. While there were some disappointments with restaurant service, I trust that management will focus on correcting those deficits. Read Less

This is our 5th Silversea cruise and we are currently on the ship. Service and food are no where like it used to be. Obviously it’s purchase by Royal Caribbean last year has affected the elegance, food quality and top tier service we’ve experienced in the past. We are going to be on the hunt for more luxe cruise line! The service in La Terrazzo is SLOW and the food was cold and subpar to previous Silversea cruise .Same at Hot Rocks last night. The gym has not been updated and one of the two ellipticals is an awkward ride Technogym early model. They do to a great job of getting you on and off the ship for excursions, but when you book what you think will be a luxe cruise, you want fabulous food and service. The food is so mediocre and skimpy. We won’t be cruising again with Silversea. We so expected more. Read Less

Silversea markets itself as a high end luxury liner and for the most part it meets its hype. People joining Grand Voyages part way through, hoping on and off after a few days and discount cruisers tend to bring down the luxury experience. The Muse is a well-designed ship for intimate cruising with nicely designed suites, multiple restaurants, bars and open spaces to relax. The suites are spacious, nicely decorated and kept spotless by well-trained attendants. With eight restaurants, serving a variety of foods; Japanese, Indochine fusion, Italian, Grill, Atlantide seafood & steaks, pizzeria, Silver Note night club. Atlantide best for seafood, Grill for steaks there are always good dishes on the menu at whichever location you chose. La Dame has two sittings, neither time acceptable to us . Atlantide is compact and intimate conversation impossible. Overall food was good with attentive service. Arts cafe is a delightful coffee boutique offering coffees, alcohol and a varying selection of food offerings during the day. Late night chocolate was always good. Sommeliers offer good variety of global house wines to meet personal choice. Six bars, two main Dolce Vita and Panorama offer a good selection of premium liquor, wines and champagne. The Servers are friendly and know your drink choice without asking after a few days. The Pool bar is good during the day and evening for drinks and coffee. Other bars in Atlantide, Silver Note, and Indochine. The Pool area is the hub of daily activities on two decks. Shade is at a premium as sitting area for the Grill occupy much of the shade. Plenty of quiet spots away from the pool area. The Entertainment is not a strength of Silversea, except Trivia with Jimmy. Enrichment lecturers were variable but David Horner was excellent, Mark Elovitz and Bill Miller good. We had a great voyage and have booked for next year. Silversea continues to be our first choice for cruising. Read Less

I was very displeased with the cruise we boarded on April 2 from Singapore to Mumbai. To our dismay upon boarding the ship was old and tired as many of the staff were. When we checked into our room I had to summon housekeeping to change the bathmat as it was frayed and extremely tired as some of the towels.The only saving grace was that the room was a decent size. The food was not first class as its reputation. La Dame was supposed to be their top of the line restaurant which charged $60. pp extra. Definitely not worth it. Stated in their literature is that premium wines are included. This is false as the Chardonnay served was the cheapest reserve of Wente, Morning Fog, when Riva Ranch is only a few dollars more. On several occasions the raspberries at the morning buffet were moldy. The avocado was shockingly served to us when it was overripe and black. Regular yogurt was at the buffet when Greek style was available but we had to ask for it. Why are there items available but not on the menu? This is not what I expected for the money spent. I have sailed on many other high-end ships and this did not measure up. Furthermore, I have received no email regarding my negative comments that I painstakingly wrote before leaving the ship. 4 of our group were so dissatisfied they left the ship after only a few days on board. And to add insult to injury, my travel partner and I had jewelry stolen from our room. When I reported this to the customer relations dept. (Dionel Castillo), the answer was very unsatisfactory. Needless to say, I am not left with a fond memory and doubt that I will return on Silversea as there are many other cruise ships that are a dream like Oceania, Crystal, Viking and Regent who offer much superior service. I wish I had read the Cruise Citic Reviews for this ship before I booked. I would not have gone ahead. Many of the reviews do not have nice things to say about this ship and they are accurate. Silversea claim that this is a 6 star ship. I have done 27 Cruises and it is 4 - 4.5 stars at best. So in summary I paid a six star price for a 4 star ship. Everything on board is the cheapest of the Cheap. Even the bottled water in the cheapest they could buy. No Evian here - cheap water from somewhere in China. Ship - Tired and Run Down. Staff - poor levels of english and you have to ask for everything 4 times Management - Don't care - we told them of our dissappointment only to be ignored - One manager organised one special meal for us and that was it. Special Requests - At first they tell they can't do special things for you hoping you will stop asking then after a while the reluctantly give in and get it for you - not what was expected on a "6 star" ship. Don't expect any pampering on this ship. They claim to have daily yoga, pilates and fitness classes - they had nobody on board to do them. Out of 27 cruises Silversea are in my bottom 5. Read Less

First cruised onboard theSilver Cloud many, many years ago and we wanted to try another Silver Sea cruise. Silver Muse had the right itinerary and well, she did not disappoint. The entire experience was excellent, the accommodations spacious and understated elegance, the service was outstanding. We had multiple dining options and all were good in their own right. Most of the staff were personable and went out of their way to accommodate our needs- we were a large group, 14 adults and a baby. The entertainment was average, but we really wanted to do a relaxed cruise so we really did not mind that. embark/disembark- at Marina Bay Cruise Center (Singapore), from luggage drop off tot he welcome champagne in the lobby of the ship was 15 minutes at most. cabin- see below dining- we tried each of the restaurants at least twice and all were excellent. The service and attention was great. My favorites were Atlantide and the outdoor grilling were you prepare your own dish on hot rocks. The buffet area for breakfast and lunch was converted into an italian-themed restaurant at night. excursions- Silversea had several excursions that were complimentary, you get to reserve this in advance before the cruise. The more personalized options, you had to pay for. Would highly recommend this cruise. looking forward to the next SS cruise. Read Less

We are regular cruisers and have sailed on many different lines like Celebrity, RCCL, Princess, P&O, NCL and Carnival, however, this was our first cruise on a smaller ship. The combination of a good price for the cruise and an interesting itinerary made it attractive to book this holiday. We were certainly not disappointed with our first Silversea experience! The ship was immaculate and had generous public areas. The cabin (a Classic Veranda Suite) was luxuriously appointed with plenty of space. The walk in wardrobe was an excellent size and there was more than enough storage space for luggage. The bathroom was lovely with a full size bath and separate shower. The bed was comfy and the seating area spacious. The only minor criticism was there were no non smoked glass mirrors in the cabin. It would have been useful to have a normal mirror near the balcony door. The food in the restaurants was excellent quality as were the drinks.There were several very good restaurants to choose from and we enjoyed the ability to dine in different venues during the cruise. We particualry liked the Italian themed 'La Terrazza' which served delicious food and you could enjoy this al fresco on the deck. One thing we particularly liked was that because there were less passengers than on the larger ships, we were able to go to the buffets and not feel crowded, there was always a waiter to help you find a free table and offer to take your food for you. It was really lovely to always find a table outside to dine. The entertainment on the ship was not as 'full on' as on the larger ships we had been on but we were never bored. The shows in the Venetian Lounge involved the Silversea Singers, instrumentalists and when we were in Kota Kinabalu a local dance troupe and instrumentalists came on board and performed an excellent show. We also enjoyed dancing the night away in the Panorama Lounge and had fun at a karaoke night! The deck party was good fun and also during the day there was great food served at tables by the pool. In the evening the area around the pool became the 'Hot Rocks' restaurant where you could cook your own meat/fish on hot volcanic rocks. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We also met many friendly passengers, on several evenings we would arrange to meet up and go to dinner with new friends. We were so impressed with the Silversea brand that we decided to book a future cruise on the Silver Shadow. Read Less

After cruising with 6 other cruise companies, we were excited to have gone supposedly upmarket to Silversea. We were very disappointed.The whole ship is urgently in need of refurbishment, which apparently will happen later this year. The cabins are not that big, the balcony was tiny. The flat screen TV was out of the ark, was tiny and couldn't easily be seen from the bed. For 3 days the a/c didn't work properly, the fridge had to be changed as it also wasn't cold! The food in La Terraze was excellent at breakfast and lunch, but awful at dinner. The main restaurant food was usually lukewarm, sometimes not cooked. The service was poor with little response to any complaints. The complimentary wines were good, but bizarrely it is company policy to not have a list of complimentary wines. Instead you are presented with a white and a red as choice for the day. It is not made clear that there are other alternatives, and we spoke to several people who had no idea even late in the cruise.They do, however, have a long list of wines at extra cost! Incredibly, there was no complimentary NZ Sauv Blanc available for the entire cruise due to a procurement error. You have to play 20 questions with the sommelier to find what choice there is.This was incredibly annoying. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful, the room attendant and butler were very efficient. Room service was efficient but again the food was usually cold. The other guests made the cruise for us, together with a great itinerary and good weather. There was general agreement that Silversea were overpriced, very disappointing and to be avoided in future. We chose the sailing because the timing and itinerary were just what we were looking for. The issues started just after we booked the cruise through the Silversea Florida Office. The thing to bear in mind is that this is supposed to be a luxury cruise and you are paying top dollar. The booking/ administration was awful and had no idea of life outside Florida. Questions went unanswered for weeks, escalation to management helped, but slowly, promises were not kept. Flights routings were stupid - the first plan was to fly us 4 hours East to Toronto, to fly us 5 hours West to Vancouver (rather than just the one hour to Vancouver), before flying to the Far East. Then they rescheduled our early February flight at the last minute giving us a very tight transfer in the middle of a deep freeze/ snow storm. We were told they wanted to cut down on our wait time in Vancouver - a better plan would have been to ask us! In my opinion, they had just no idea. The Shipboard credit was not provided and had to be requested from the ship. In all fairness, we travelled with a friend from England who did not have any issues with their admiistartion. Planning the ports looked odd. We stayed 2 days in Sianoukville, described as a cross between a rubbish dump and a building site, but only a few hours in Ha Long Bay, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Once we were on the ship, the ship's company could not have been better, service was excellent from top to bottom - particularly all the bar staff. We could not fault the cabin staff, just excellent. The line is Italian, so food was slanted to haute cuisine, which was fine, we had some beautiful dishes. The lunch on the Pool deck delivered a really, really good burger, just light on the salads, though I suppose I could have asked for double portions. The evening entertainment was not as good as we have previously enjoyed. There was a lot of opera/ American songbook shows, some of the arrangements were not my cup of tea The bar and pool staff plus the waiters were a joy. I doubt we will cruise with Silversea again - Regent provide a much better administrative experience and a nicer ship Read Less

Silversea advertised a series of Asia cruises with their "Far More in the Far East" special, and wow, did it deliver. I chose this Singapore-to-Hong Kong voyage for several reasons: the timing worked for me, I liked the balance of ports and sea days, the itinerary would take me to so many places I've never been but have longed to visit, and the Silversea specials put this all-inclusive luxury voyage comfortably in my price range ($1000 air credit, $1000 onboard credit, most excursions included, 5% discount for previous SS travelers, 5% discount for booking onboard a previous cruise, and then a surprise 3-category upgrade just a few days before sailing -- it all added up to a reasonable price). The Shadow is one of the older ships in the fleet, but she is graceful and well maintained. After previously sailing on her smaller sibling, the Wind, the Shadow at first seemed so much larger. Within a day, that feeling diminished and she seemed perfect to me. My suite seemed bigger than I expected, although the pool seemed smaller than expected. On this particular voyage, we had spectacular weather until the final few days, and the pool deck was filled to capacity. There were short waits (under 5 minutes) for the morning buffet at popular times on port days, but generally passengers were well distributed throughout the ship. It was easy to find quiet places to sit, or more active places for company. Embarkation in Singapore is odd simply because you have to walk through a mall to reach the desk. Once in Silversea's hands, however, the process was easy and pleasant -- under 10 minutes from starting the process to sitting in the Panorama Lounge enjoying my 2nd glass of welcome bubbly. I dined at every possible venue, preferring La Terrazza for breakfast (waiters will bring you eggs to order and cappuccino, but everything else comes from the vast buffet). My meal in the upcharge La Dame was as extraordinary as advertised, while two dinners at the casual Hot Rocks were good fun with good company. The Restaurant does include a small selection of regional selections every night, and I found they were nicely done -- especially the lemongrass beef. Over the 2 weeks, I dined in La Tarrazza for dinner on 4 occasions, always enjoying the upscale Italian cuisine and handmade pastas. As others have said, luxury trappings are nice, but it is the warmth and professionalism of the crew that make Silversea so special. Without exception, every staff member on board was at the top of their game, remembering names and orders, anticipating wants or needs, offering a compliment or a steady arm, making conversation with real connections, sharing insights from their homelands. I found this to be true throughout the ranks: from the captain to the room attendant, from the wait staff to the officers, from the earnest care of the butlers to the often invisible work of the maintenance crew and accountants. Of everything on this near-perfect voyage, I think I will miss the crew the most. Would I go again? Yes. And I would enthusiastically recommend it to others. Read Less

This was our 59 cruise and second experience with Silver Seas. We always travel during January and February to get away from the cold of the Northeast of the USA. And we always, always, look at the itinerary first with any cruise line. We picked the Silver Shadow for our third trip to Asia and all but one port was new for us. The Philippines added to our booking as we always wanted to see that country. Our suite was nice but dated and sure could use modernization. Public rooms were nice but also dated. We were told repeatedly, by the crew, that the ship was going into dry dock at the end of the year, but not soon enough for us. For the cost of the trip you would think the company would keep the ships up to date. All suites, all butlers. - What does a butler really do? Our suite attendant maintained our room beautifully and also quickly. We would go for breakfast and if we went back after breakfast our suite was serviced and perfect every time. Our butler even came to our table in the dining room one night asking us why we never asked him to do anything and if he had done something wrong???!!!! Rather odd. So why does Silver Seas even have butlers. Oh we got a card from the butler on the night before leaving offered to pack our luggage for us! Nice guy but oh so unnecessary. The dining room was always wonderful. We prefer the same table and the same waiter. Alex was outstanding and after just one night remembered our names and on day day 2 remembered out likes and dislikes. Fantastic guy for our 20 day cruise. They have 'La Dame" for $60 per person, why? Never went as the dining room offers, at no extra charge, was wonderful. Entertainment: Forget it. We did not book this cruise looking for any entertainment. Silverseas along with so many others, offers mediocre to non-existent shows. The 3 piece band was great in the bars but the Lounge shows were beyond amateurish. High school productions are more entertaining, (sad but really)! As stated above, we booked this cruise for the itinerary. We started in Singapore on our own for 4 days. Borneo and other Malaysia ports were fascinating. The Phillippines were great and the Sanya in China was a surprise beautiful port. Then the second cruise to ports in Viet Nam we fun too. The free tours hosted by SilverSeas was fine. And they made sure that none of the tour buses and/tour boats had more than 22 folks. Finally the crew: Way over the top great, wonderful and they make the cruise oh so special even with the hiccups along the way. Yes, we would cruise with Silverseas again. But only because of the itinerary. And hopefully ports that we have not seen yet. Read Less

The Hong Kong-Vietnam-Bangkok-Singapore cruise on Silversea Shadow was outstanding in every way..food, service, ship, butler, excursions pre and post hotels. The ship is older but in very good condition. I have been on 9 SS cruises on 5 of their ships and all are just as good. I find no reason for many of the rants in other posts. I am very particular and have experienced nothing but excellence once on the ship. I am not looking for zip lines, golf courses, wave pools or kids running around on a ship. They are willing to do anything you request.There are no lines except is the entire ship disembarks at the same time like in St Petersburg at the port where Russian authorities required everybody to be cleared with their documents. The entertainment is average but it is not Las Vegas. The performers are good but the content they are given is fair. Most cruise lines use the same outsourced company for entertainers so it is no different elsewhere. Read Less

This was a special holiday and very expensive chosen as a one-off treat never again The cabin looked lovely but we had problems with the carpet being wet from the balcony to the middle of the lounge area as did a lot of the same side of our deck . The Butler was visible sometimes and not others . Tried twice to phone room service and was cut off . The patio door was not sealed properly and difficult to open/close . The weather was appalling on 90 % of the journey and was too near the front of the ship despite being described as midship and the rolling and banging was awful . Many of our group were sea sick . No kettle or tea coffee in room at all , water was provided in mini bar from a unsealed bottle that was refilled by the butler . The ship needs a refurb and is tired and tatty in some areas The food was not as good as I expected from this high end cruise line . The breakfast was bland and most of it congealed warm at best and the choice was limited .Hot plates available on request ?? Eggs available on request which took 10 minutes hardly anyone serving behind the station , burnt ( every day ) pastries. The only thing the staff insisted on in the terraze is carrying your plate from the buffet where you had chosen your food to the table ( could be as near as 5 steps ) which is the most ridiculous thing ( unless you needed help of course ) and I tried to avoid this with no success most days . Lunch wasn’t much better except on deck ( when it was open due to extreme weather ) where the food was really tasty and hot . Dinner in the restaurant was ok , the portions were a joke , with a steak one night there was three tiny pieces of warm pepper , a sliver of cooked onion and nothing else . The choice of puddings were sparse except ice cream and much too much chocolate . You could have three praline sweets and that was a choice ! On New Year’s Eve there was a gala dinner which was ok a few tiny courses and a main. There was very little to do during the day , the chronicles which advised the activities included picking up your crossword and daily puzzle from the library and the fact that there was someone to help with language for foreign speaking guests . The daily quiz with Moss was a highlight but the singers were mediocre and on in the theatre far too many times. We sailed from Bangkok into a tropical storm and had to miss ho chi minn city completely and spent 5 days anchored in Ha Long bay where after having done trips the only activity was being taken by shuttle to a large shopping centre half an hour away . Setting off from there eventually more high seas until arriving in Hong Kong where once again the shuttle bus dropped people at a shopping centre about half an hour away . At night was looking forward to the light show I had heard so much about only to be told we were in the wrong harbour and wouldn’t see it where we were . At dinner that night all we could view from the windows in the restaurant was the side of the boat refuelling for the next trip . I have never paid so much for a cruise and been so dissapointed. The weather could not be helped but everything else was such a let down . The only thing I will say is if you are a budding alcoholic this is the cruise line for you . Far too much alcohol with nothing else to do , many guests took full advantage and were loud , brash and inconsiderate despite being very upper class. I would never recommend this ship or company to anyone and I have read dreadful reports about p and o on cruise critic as well as good ones but for me there is no comparison . This is definately Not 5 star or and higher and its back to p and o for me and reasonable priced drinks and excellent itinerary . Read Less

This ship is dated and shows it. Never use Silver Sea again. Frankly cruising is not for me, it is such a con game the whole promise in the advertising is to me misleading. The hotels in Singapore and Hong Kong were excellent, wish I had spent my money there and not on crappy silver seas, it is not LUXURY. Read Less

This was my first experience with Silversea, having travelled with around a dozen other cruise lines over the decades. Silversea wins hands down! I had the lowest (and presumably the lowliest) of cabins (428), which I jokingly referred to as being 'below the Plimsoll Line.' It was incredibly spacious, with a huge and comfortable bed, lounge suite and two armchairs, walk in robe and ample storage, a bathroom larger than my own, desk, coffee table, further mirrored ledges, and a generous ocean view. The toiletries were Bvulgari, the in-suite fridge stocked and replenished with beverages of my choice, VIP treatment from both the butler and his assistant, who despite being totally professional, felt like 'family' throughout. I also appreciated the daily newspaper, plus bulletins from my part of the world, and having the nearby laundrette was fantastic. Given my predilection for cruising - and my love of food - I reckon I'm qualified to judge the variety of menu options across Silversea's several restaurants, the quality and generosity of the servings, and the high standard of the wait staff as outstanding. Special requests were honoured when necessary, preferred wines freely offered if those chosen daily were not to your liking, imaginative and delicious cocktails always available. My late husband and I have been guilty on many an occasion of eschewing a voyage's entertainment in favour of sleep. I'm so glad I didn't on the Silver Shadow. Their entertainers were fantastic: both the onboard team and the guest saxophonist and the cello duo. Cruise Director Moss brought the house down with his own show one night. Accolades also to the wonderful pianist who never seemed to sleep, and the resident band whose musical repertoire knew no boundaries. I selfishly enjoyed many hours playing bridge (the card game, not the control centre!) and afternoon trivia with a bunch of fellow voyagers. At no time did I feel lonely as a solo traveller. Every single member of the Silver Shadow's crew went out of their way to be welcoming, kind, friendly and helpful. Extraordinary training and personal enthusiasm must lie behind their exemplary and personalised customer service skills. Acts of God brought undone our scheduled itinerary, but the ship's personnel from top to bottom all coped well and cheerfully carried on (unlike some of their guests whose plans had been scuttled in order to save their lives!). This has been a most wonderful introduction to my future relationship with Silversea. Read Less

My review: THE SILVERSEA – SILVER MUSE. The Silver Muse is simply a brilliant ship (the best I have ever sailed on) along with its excellent crew and all of its on-board facilities. It lierally floats on the ocean like a dream with its stabilizers holding it with almost no movement awareness on board. Its 8 restaurants are all magnificently appointed with the best food at sea (beats Oceania by at least 10 points), wherever you turn the luxury of this ship is outstanding from its beautifully furnished and super spacious all-suite accommodation to it many lounges, good sized theatre, easy access staircases, several lifts, library and its many comfort areas and cocktail bars. A delightful pool and spa with its waiter cocktail service for all guests is all a part of this incredible ship that carries around 600 passengers and maybe 400 crew, and a brilliant cruise director, the best we have ever experienced. You can be assured that your every whim is catered for, as a person you are not just another passenger, you are the most important person on board, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, the concierge and the super friendly crew. As a frequent cruiser who has travelled the world on most other cruise lines and their ships, this would have to be the ultimate in cruising and most certainly worth a 6-star - or better rating. Initially we were a little hesitant about booking this particular cruise because of its Asian ports itinerary that had been selected. Being honest the ports are not the best, but with the ambience of the ship you soon forget the ports and the on-shore excursions where one gets stuck in the traffic jams of Djakarta etc. One terrific port of call was a virtual desert Island off Java with only 80 permanent residents where the ship tenders were required, but the crew and facilities provided were just incredible. Lunch, free drinks and entertainment was all shipped ashore by the incredible crew to give guests a true desert island experience. I should mention this is a completely independent assessment, I am not being paid or receiving any benefit from anyone, this is my own opinion having recently returned from an 8-day cruise on this magnificent ship between Singapore and Bali, Indonesia. If you enjoy cruising, whatever you do, don't pass on the Silversea, Silver Muse, she would have to be the most impressive ship sailing the oceans today. Read Less

I love SliverSea for its high end attitude and small ship feel. The food was great and the unlimited wine and liquor make for a great social atmosphere. I thought the nightly shows were good and well produced. The cruise director Moss did a great job keeping everyone informed of daily activities and updates. I enjoyed the travel series type lectures by Peter LaSorsa, as I learned a great deal of useful information. The other lecture series on destinations was also informative. My butler was amazing and it really adds a great touch to the cruise. I found the laundry facilities to be fine and not too crowded. I also enjoyed listening to the two talented musicians onboard. Vlad on guitar and Alexsandra on piano. They are both so talented. I could listen to both all day. On most days Alexsandra also played piano during the tea hour which was wonderful. I would highly recommend this ship and cruise line. Read Less

The food is poor the speciality restaurants I wouldn’t bother with , in room dining is also shocking ,hot rocks and the pizza bar are very good.we found that the food was always Luke warm at best ,indochine is neither Thai or Indian it’s a bit of a poor attempt at both . The staff in general are what you would expect but the reception staff are rude ,don’t book a message during a show as you won’t enjoy the experience far too much second hand noise fighting with the zen music. We spent 3 days in port in Yangon surrounded by lorries and containers with a large cargo ship just off the aft spewing out black smoke the excursions were a nightmare due to travelling distances really couldn’t recommend this itinerary . Overall not worth the money loads of room for improvement. Read Less

Travelled with family, attracted by the itinerary to Myanmar. Stayed in a Silver suite on level 9 with adjoining room. Previous personal experience on Silversea is only on a Galapago cruise and mainly have taken Crystal cruises (sorry if I use it as a benchmark a lot). Other family members have been on other Silversea cruises. Embarkation - easy and quick. Disembarkation within Silversea's control was fine and well organised. Some confusion with the ground transport staff and which van was to take us to the airport, waited for ages (Singapore). The ship and cabin was excellent. Butler and attendant were excellent also. Did room service breakfast once at 6am for an early excursion - butler served it right on the dot at 6am and it was laid out beautifully, food was nice and hot. Absolutely no complaints about the room (bed is on the firm side which I like), wardrobe, bathroom etc. See comments in cabin section about TV media comments. There is 24/7 wifi available for this room category - when we checked in, it automatically connected to the standard wifi but you are eligible for the premium wifi and we had to speak to reception once to get that sorted (but being at sea, I'm not sure how much faster the premium wifi was!). Laundry included with this room category. But be aware that there is only one laundrette per floor and only one washing machine/dryer in the room, I think perhaps they could have installed a few more machines. The ship has a lot of modern artwork displayed, may not be everyone's cup of tea! The destinations and excursions were as expected. Potential Myanmar travellers be aware - the Pagodas and Monasteries which are the highlights - do require that you remove all footwear (and including socks!) when you visit. The main Shwedagon pagoda was clean and well maintained but the other places we visited were perhaps not so clean. Bring lots of wet-wipes along! Enrichment activities were generally good and as expected. Overall a pretty good experience but the only issue is the dining. I was very apprehensive in the lead-up, as I had been reading all the reviews on this site so I think did not have particularly high expectations. My previous main cruise experience has been with Crystal so I am guess I am using that as my main comparison. Walk-in everywhere during the day time. At night, Atlantide and Indochine and Spaccanapoli (pizza place) were walk in, everywhere else needed a reservation although to be honest most places were not full when we peeked in for a look so I'm sure you could walk in. We found Atlantide to be the best and most consistent in terms of quality. There was some day to day minor variability in the menu (I think a full menu change was only once a week, as other reviewers have commented) and service was good. Atlantide ended up being our main go-to restaurant to dine, and I think the same for other diners as it got progressively busier towards the end of the cruise. Indochine - service good but quality of food was not great, only went once. La Terraza - menu did not change for many days. Inside tables were a bit strange, most of the tables were an oval shaped table and there were two sizes. The smaller sized table was fine for two people and the larger table was quite large, it could seat 4-6 people. There were no in-between sizes (except outside or some side booth seating). It was pretty much free-seating for breakfast and lunch. However at dinner, found it a bit irritating the maitre d' kept trying to put us (a group of three) on a small table as it was way too small. Most times we'd have to say something and request a larger table (and there definitely was availability, restaurant was not full). Breakfast buffet was also in La Terraza. A reasonable selection, you could go help yourself or also order e.g. fried eggs with staff. Hot food at the counter had to be served. The Grill (hot rocks) - excellent. Steak quality was fantastic. Prawns were very good too. Just beware it gets a bit oily and the frying smell wafts everywhere. For daytime, they served the usual (hot dogs, burgers, salads etc). Couple of times there was also special buffets also. Spaccanapoli - went twice. First time great. Second time not so good (pizza crust and topping not matching menu description). La Dame and Kaiseki unfortunately did not live up to expectations in relation to food quality (service was great). We had booked La Dame twice but ended up going only once and cancelling the other booking. Nothing special and similar dishes were actually available in Atlantide! The $60 charge could be reviewed I think (I did hear other guests commenting similarly). We had booked Kaiseki but tried it out for lunch first - sushi and sashimi was not great (Silk Road on the Crystal ships were much better) and we ended up cancelling our booking. We are not big drinkers so I cannot comment much on the bar and alcohol. The served wine was ok. I thought the wines you could purchase were priced well. Bartender at the Grill was very enthusiastic and gave great service the one night we got a drink there. Overall everything about the ship is great except the dining, mainly lacking in food quality consistency and variety. Atlantide was generally the best. Everywhere else, some meals were great, some were a bit average. Was not happy with La Dame, Kaiseki and Indochine. I hope I'm not being overly fussy (first world problems I realise!) but given Silversea's reputation and price, I think it could be a bit better. More menu changes (more frequently) is needed. I commented to family during the cruise that on previous Crystal cruises, we actually looked forward to dinner, we wanted to see what they would serve each night (they had it displayed and you could go look in advance every day) and had confidence whereas on this ship, it was sort of "oh dear, where should we go tonight for dinner?". On Crystal there was one main dining room and you were assigned a particular table for the whole cruise and had assigned wait staff dedicated to your table so that was also nice, you would look forward to seeing and chatting to them but you knew they were also keeping an eye out on things for the whole meal. The menu changed everyday. There were other restaurants but the quality and service in the main dining room was so good, I daresay I could have gone there every night and be a happy diner. But on the Muse it was different. Besides the menu/food issue, there were some little issues with the service (or rather, how things were organised). You'd see the same group of staff around but one would take the order, another would be in charge of drinks, another would be in charge of the water etc. I'm not sure if that way of organisation works well because no one "oversees" the table as a whole (or at least I could not identify who was "in charge"). Service - staff were 9/10 times so enthusiastic and keen but again maybe the way things are organised could lead to confusion for them. Some previous reviewers have commented on food service being slow - we tended to dine early, we did not encounter any issues with delays in our food (but restaurant generally not particularly busy at the times we dined). Family do not recall such issues on other Silversea ships so I hope we can still put this down to "teething issues" but the ship is more than a year old now so I hope Silver Muse can iron some of these issues out as otherwise, it is a lovely ship! We sailed on the Silver Muse earlier this year from Rio to Fort Lauderdale and were blown away by the service, the quality of the boat, the frendliness of the staff etc etc. Grabbed a late minute deal to cruise again from Singapore as a round trip with the longest stay in Yangon for 3 days. Suite was 941 which is under the Pool Deck and at night and in the early morning you can hear the tables and chairs being set up and stored away. Would not recommend the cabins on Level 9 midships as they would all be affected to some extent. We were a little disappointed with the attention from our Butler but perhaps we were really spoilt last time and had higher expectations. Yangon is definitely 3rd world with the boat docked about 6 klms downstream from town because of the shallow approach. Unfortunately it takes between 1.5 and 2.5 hours to travel into the City along a very bumpy partially sealed road which they are in the process of upgrading. We opted out on the free tour on Day 3 as we had already done the trip in and out twice. It would have been better to stay 2 night in Langkawi or Phuket or have a stopover in Malacca on the way back rather than have 3 days in Yangon. Will cruise with Silversea again when another 'bucket list' destination comes up with competitive pricing. Read Less

I picked this cruise line as I was travelling alone and wanted to be pampered and safe. The single supplement was a reasonable 25%. The itinerary was exciting and I enjoyed every port of call. The excursions were great with very comfortable coaches and knowledgeable guides. There were a great variety of different options, with the majority included in the cost of the cruise. I also had a day before the cruise in an amazing 5*hotel. Had a little time to explore before embarking and a couple of days in Singapore after the cruise as I had a late night flight home. Embarkation was smooth as I needed wheelchair assistance as I can’t stand for long periods of time. I’ve had to select ‘Yes’ for travelling with children as this system would not accept the ‘NO’ option????? I did not have children with me. The ship and crew were even more magnificent than I had thought. I do have one major complaint (see lower down - nothing to do with onboard staff) The food was incredible and the wines and cocktails perfect. There were lots of different options for eating and lots of choice on each menu so all tastes were catered for. If anyone had specific dietary requirements then nothing was too much trouble. Nowhere was crowded so I always felt that I had space to myself if I wanted it. However- there were always opportun ities to mix with other guests. Everyone you met on corridors, lifts, poolside and lounges said hello and chatted about the wonderful time they were having. I met many lovely fellow passengers and will stay in touch and we hope to be able to visit each other. After a couple days the staff on board knew your name and they were always smiling and so helpful. The ‘Voices of the Muse’ were very, very talented as were the other entertainers. No matter what type of music you liked you could enjoy it somewhere on board. The pool is excellent and also very pretty. In fact all of the ship is even better than photos show. I had such a great time that I wanted to stay on for the next leg of the cruise- ending in Bali. This is where my only area of complaint comes in. Even though the ship was just a little over half full SilverSea initially would not offer any discount at all! The onboard Cruise Director made several more phone calls but the most that SilverSea would do was to take a measly £200 off the cost of the cruise AND I would have to arrange my own flights home on top! I felt that was a very mean offer and said no. I don’t understand why they could not offer a reasonable deal when there was soooo much suite availability. I wasn’t asking for a free cruise- I was prepared to pay a reasonable amount but there was just no flexibility at all. So - overall - the cruise was simply amazing, over and above anything you could imagine and the crew from Captain down to every other person on board were outstanding but staff at head office very unhelpful when I asked to stay on. The gym is very small. 10 people make it really crowded 4. Our booking agent never told us that we have free shore excursions with silver sea that come with our package. We discovered it accidently 2 days before the end of the cruise. 5. I had a problem to log in to the internet. I went to the reception desk and asked for help. The girl at the reception took my phone and erased the full history and website data from my phone! The internet connection has nothing to do with website data so i really dont know why did she do such a horrible thing. This is our 6th Silversea cruise, we have sailed on several other cruise lines but SS for the most part. When the Muse was launched, we knew we had to go on it! Something new and hopefully fresh and different from previous cruises. Now that may seem like a negative about previous cruises, but not exactly. Silversea was my first cruise ever and has always held a special place in my heart but after a few cruises, we felt like maybe we didn’t exactly fit in with their usual clientele. Hence, we started exploring other cruise lines to see what else is out there. We are American 46 and 51...a bit on the young side for Silversea. In the past, the cruise demographic never seemed very varied. Primarily Brits , over the age of 70. We had felt that the social life on board was pretty quiet and reserved. Not as friendly as we would like. Well, the Muse blew that out of the water. I dont know if its because of the new ship, bigger size, the itinerary, different marketing?? I dont know, but it was a vast improvement. Super friendly, outgoing, social folks everywhere. There was definitely a livelier vibe on the ship , really good energy that I hadn’t felt on SS before. EMBARKATION: So we flew from Florida to Singapore to board the ship. We spent 3 nights at the Mandarin Oriental in Singapore first. We love SIN and were happy to spend a few days there. We couldn’t find any info from Silversea on which port they use in Singapore. It was pretty frustrating not knowing where to go. We finally looked at cruisemapper to locate the ship. If the info was printed somewhere, we sure couldn’t find it. Otherwise, embarkation was quick and easy like always. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: We LOVE this new ship and hopefully this new design is reflected in future ships and refurbishments of the old ships. The other ships we had done were classy, elegant, but the kind you find at a wealthy grandmas house . It was fine, but a bit dark and not our cup of tea. This new design is gorgeous. Loved the colors, textures, materials. Loved the use of wood looking tile for bathrooms, and many public spaces. The ship is bright, the lighting is great . Very well done! We were getting pretty excited about this trip! Cabins werent ready, so our routine is to eat lunch at the pool grill. Menu had finally been changed and expanded. I ordered the BBQ chicken wrap but didnt care for it at all ,although my partner loved his?? So....? After lunch, we explored the ship and shortly thereafter we went to our cabin. The ship is just gorgeous! CABIN: Typical veranda stateroom size which suits us just fine. Again, it echos the rest of the ship, just beautiful. Lots of storage space, big deep drawers. Lots of counter space in living room area. I don’t like the 2 TVs in the mirror in the living area and the other in front of the bedroom. They are too difficult to see unless the lights are off and curtains pulled. Our other complaint and really biggest complaint is the mattress...so hard! Like really hard! My back was killing me so bad. We requested the egg shell foam thing they can put under the sheets, but apparently there were no more available. Obviously we werent the only ones that thought the beds were hard. The awesome suite attendant put 2 duvets under the sheets and it was more comfortable for the rest of the trip. DINING: I was stressing over this honesty. Food had been hit or miss on past cruises. And not having a main dining room per se, I wasnt sure how all these individual restaurants would work out for us. Atlantide: we ate here twice, first time the filet mignon was cooked to perfection, so delicious and tender, the 2nd time it was over cooked and I didnt care for it. Otherwise both dinners were very good. We also started eating here for breakfast rather than the buffet at La Terraza. It was quieter, more civilized , I dont care for buffets much anyway, food was hotter and service excellent. I highly recommend it, not many folks ate here each morning. Indochine: we ate here twice as well. Restaurant is gorgeous ! Loved the decor. Was never crowded. Food was so good. This is the only restaurant that we heard from a few other passengers that felt like the food was so so....but we didnt find that at all and really enjoyed it ! La Terrazza: we ate here twice for dinner as well. Much lighter and brighter than on other ships. Felt like food was much better and so was service. They had an amazing gnocchi and ossobucco that was to die for! We did breakfast here a couple times until we found Atlantide ...much prefer blast there. We were happy to see that SS could finally get us a cup of coffee before we finished our breakfast! This was something that happened a lot on other ships, very slow coffee service. We had lunch here a couple times, buffet is fine...nothing too exciting. Seabourn does it better. Kaiseki: Ate here once as its $60 per person. It was way too much food for us. It was all very good, but the service takes too long for us and we couldn’t finish most things. As much we enjoyed the food, we wouldn’t do it again at $60/person. La Dame: Did this once...also $60 person. We had eaten at La Champagne on our first cruise years ago, but now it s called La Dame. There was much better selection of items than previous La Champagne restaurant . We really enjoyed it, food wasn’t too much, didnt feel overly stuffed. We really loved it and had wonderful folks sitting next to us that entertained us..again, everyone was so friendly and like to strike up conversations with us at nearly every meal. Silver Note; didnt try it this cruise . Spaccanapoli: we were super tired after a 12 hour excursion to Hanoi, so we got back late and just went for casual pizza night. It was sooo good! And we were the only ones there that night. Its super popular and packed during the day for lunch but for some reason people avoid it at night? Pool Grill: Did this once. We have cooked our steaks many times on the hot rocks, so we dont do it anymore. I prefer someone else cook my dinner. Steak was excellent as were the sides. It was pretty chilly and we had to move our table as it got drizzly , but still a nice night. ENTERTAINMENT AND ACTIVITIES: We dont play shuffle board or bridge or trivia or any of that. We did go to a couple lectures by an amazing guy who did lectures on Vietnam...he was one of the best lecturers I have ever heard. Guests talked about him all the time every day on the ship. Everyone thought he was fascinating, and his material moved at a good pace. He was phenomenal! We usually try to hit the casino but didnt make it in . We peeked in one night, it was very quiet and notthat big. SHOPS: Well unless you are in the market for jewelry or a lady, not much there for men . A handful of things, terrible marketing for Silversea. Just lousy for men or people that even want a few souvenirs or snacks or something. Lame. SERVICE: Was very good. We were fortunate to recognize some staff that we have sailed with before on other SS ships. It s like seeing family you haven’t seen in a long time. Always made us feel welcome..so warm and gracious. Really couldn’t fault anyone . Staff seems to really be happy on this ship and they will tell you how much they love it. I imagine a new ship is more user friendly, things dont break etc. Plus they have bars in every restaurant now..so smart. Before they would have to run front the restaurants to the main bar to get a cocktail for you if you didn’t want wine. PORTS AND EXCURSIONS: Well, I could write tons on this but I will just say please book a trip to Vietnam ! It was fantastic! We got our own guilds for Saigon, but did ship excursions for others ports. Such a fascinating country! FINAL THOUGHTS: This cruise renewed our excitement and interest in Silversea again! We loved the ship and will look for future cruiees primarily on the Muse or any of the newer ones. This ship really suited our style. The passenger demographic was much more diverse. There were people from all over , not one nationality seemed to prevail. There was also a better age mix than previous SS cruises. The vibe and energy on the ship was great and seemed a bit more relaxed than previous stuffy cruises we have done in the past. Hopefully this trend will continue. Read Less

After reading a number of mixed reviews, I had lowered my expectations going in, but was pleasantly surprised. Everything was clean and comfortable and relatively efficient. Although we had slight concern initially that the linens appeared to not have been changed after a few days, since I noticed the same blood stain from my husband’s-cut on his finger. Although the linens did not smell, I assumed it was the same stain. I asked the front desk how often they changed them( I certainly didn’t want them changed everyday) , they said every other day, that seemed unlikely. However after my inquiry, they seemed to change them every other day, which was unnecessary, every 3 days would have been sufficient. I was a little upset that our cabin attendant notified us he was leaving the ship in Hiroshima and a new attendant would be taking his place. I asked him if he was leaving because of my inquiry, he said no , he was scheduled to leave for 2 weeks before we arrived, but his replacement was delayed due to obtaining visa, so he stayed on until his replacement arrived. He said his next assignment was on the Whisper, so no worries. I just hope that was the truth, because if he was in trouble because of my inquiry that would have upset me to no end. He was very good, our room was always cleaned well and early. After he left, our room always seemed to be the last one done on sea days , even though my parents room right next to ours was done long before ours. Oh well I don’t understand the negative comments about the food. I thought the food was very good and on par with Oceania which had been our go to cruise line prior to Silverseas. I wa not thrilled with the hamburgers at the grill at lunch, but overall I thought the food , selection and presentation were well done. The steaks especially were very good, note we like medium well and were not disappointed. We preferred the main dining room, la terrazza was also very good, but menu did not change that often. The room was comfortable and loved the walk in closet. I would say the suite (vista) was better than Oceania’s concierge level. The tv worked better than expected even out at sea, however the selection of movies was limited. although there is a DVD player, you can bring your own since their library collection may not be to your liking, at least it was not for us. They did have most cable news stations, even MSNBC( since Fox News for 15 days was not an option for us! ) and ESPN . I liked the separate workout room with free weights and a good area to do my own aerobic workout. The overall condition of the ship was good, although there were areas of the ship that may have needed some light maintenance, it was in areas that most people would not be traversing on routine basis. I would definitely recommend Silverseas although not sure if we will travel with them unless there is a good price, like we received on this one, and the itinerary is of interest. We were ok with the formal policy, but prefer not to drag that extra luggage with us. A great trip overall. Read Less

I returned to Silversea after four years (having been unable to travel in that time) and as a solo traveller for the first time - it was like coming home, from the initial warm welcome, the brilliant service, superb food (much improved since last time), lovely butler service (thank you Gideon), as much champagne as I could drink - yes Silver Shadow is a little tired in places but it is still very much a five star experience. With only once exception the on shore tours were well organised and good value. I didn't bother with the solo travellers get together after the first night as it was so easy to get to know people and I didn't have a single evening where I needed to eat on my own. The joy of small ship cruising! It was good to see some old faces on board like Kirk the Cruise Director and Anita Labs on the shore concierge desk - and lots of passengers were booking future cruises which proves to me that Silversea are still doing things right for their discerning customer base.
