The meals were extraordinary, the service was incredible, and the cruise was absolutely beautiful.

We wanted a smaller boat and this one was perfect! Check in was a breeze, luggage was in the cabin when we arrived, and Daniel, our butler, got us a bottle of champagne immediately. We started our trip with an extended stay in Anchorage on our own, which was enjoyable and relaxing. The train ride to Seward was relaxing and offered beautiful vistas from the domed car. This was my first cruise and I loved it. My suite (all cabins are suites) was nicer - and at least as large - as most hotel rooms I stay in. I had a veranda, but other than the veranda itself, even the smallest cabin on the ship is the same size. No "inside" cabins. Very nice.

After giving up on Crystal due to their diminution of services on board and the frenetic pace of the main dining room, we decided on Silversea. What a difference! Crystal still has the best cream soups at sea and the best enrichment speakers and lecturers, but Silversea's service is the best bar none.

We have previously cruised on the Silver Spirit as well as the Silver Cloud and there is a special charm on the Silver Shadow that I feel the others were lacking.
