We have sailed with Silversea three times now. This time, we joined Silver Whisper in Lisbon and headed north. Our cabin was comfortable and well positioned. Generally, the food was good, though we found La Dame unexciting. The wait staff, bar staff, butlers and stateroom staff were lovely and helpful. The talks were interesting, the entertainment varied and a little patchy. Loved the jazz group. Good, though small, fitness area. Shore tours not exciting. We didn’t get to Porto in the end, but I wouldn’t have bothered with any of the ship’s tours. I did find it odd that there were certain times of day when there was no food available. Once breakfast finished, there was not a croissant or a banana or a cookie to be found anywhere. Late breakfasters were advised to get room service, which is a set menu and takes some time to arrive. Would it be so hard to make a snack available in one of the bars? The same problem arises if you want a little something with a late night drink. I did manage to get some crisps, thanks to a sympathetic bartender. This is the first ship where I have found it impossible to eat when I wanted to eat. There seemed to be an overemphasis on the ship’s routines. The downside of Silversea always seems to be the port shifts and skips. Last time, Silver Muse skipped Savannah altogether, and replaced Wilmington with some place I can’t even remember; there was nothing to do there but go to a shopping centre, so we didn’t bother. This time, we had quite a short cruise on Whisper, with planned stops in Porto, Bilbao, Bordeaux and Cherbourg before our promised arrival into Greenwich. Well, we missed Porto altogether, which was a bitter disappointment – especially because we had made independent tour bookings. The harbour was fogged in, so we couldn’t enter; but did we go anywhere else, or spend more time in Bilbao? No. We slowed right down and pottered into Bilbao right on time. I asked whether port fees would be refunded, and the reception staff offered to find out, but there was no reply. At lease the Muse gave us an extra day in Port Canaveral when Savannah was cancelled. At the end of the cruise, we were due into Greenwich on the night of 25 September, disembarking 26 September. We had our regular driver booked. We attended a lecture at 4pm, which was excellent and went a little over time, so we couldn’t make out some announcements about 5pm. We discovered via an ‘update’ announcement some time later that we weren’t going to Greenwich at all ‘... is expected to arrive into Tilbury at ...’! The desk was overrun, but no one had answers. We were told that there would be a shuttle to Greenwich at 6.30am, which did not suit us. We had to rearrange our driver, and the journey cost us quite a lot more. The thing that annoyed me was the complete unconcern about the disappointment, inconvenience and costs suffered by most guests. These are the downsides of small ships, I guess. They are more susceptible to bad weather. The other downside is that, when ports are cancelled, there is not a lot to do on sea days. We are leaning towards larger ships in future. Read Less

Friends recommended this cruise line and were on this cruise. I had to go find one of my bags downstairs myself long after all the others were delivered. It was in quarantine because of a Swiss Army knife that I travel with. I wish someone had told me that it was there. I was worried it had been lost. I don't know when it would have been delivered to me. The ship, food, entertainment, service and all were lovely. My only real complaint is about some of the tours. They were the classic get on the bus and follow the paddle. If there were no ear phones (and there weren't about half the time) you couldn't hear anything the tour guide was saying. Some places were so touristy, like that place in Holland with the windmills, that I wouldn't even want to go there. It was sooooooo crowded that we only had time to try to keep up with the paddle, and I am quite mobile. Same for the tour of Bruges. We spent the whole time just trying to keep up with the paddle. On the tour of Bruges, one of the passengers fell and hurt herself needing 9 stitches in her finger. The tour guide seemed only concerned about getting all the others to the bus. I'm not sure who called her a taxi. Betsy from the ship store was great with her first aid kit and stayed with the woman. I think every tour needs someone like Betsy to bring up the rear and see no one gets lost or hurt. I can easily see how passengers get left. Best tour was the concert in the Hermitage. Read Less

Overall cruise was ok. like the smaller ship, easy to get a table at any of the restuarants. didn't like so many nights that you had to wear a coat. no shorts or jeans after 6:00 in bar was a pain. Tried to be an "above scale" atmosphere which i think hurt the ability to relax after a busy day. no opportunity to just hang out when back from excursions, needed to get cleaned up and get a jaclket on just to go to the bar. Room was above average with shower and tub and double sinks.but was lacking in outlets. not enough to charge all of our electronics and still use hair dryer. Staff was great and very accommodating in all areas. butler and staff keep room in top shape. all restuarant managers were great. bar staff was far above average in level of service provided. Biggest asset of this cruise was the staff. they really went out of their way to take care of us. all were very friendly and were always ready to go the extra mile to make us happy. Casino could be larger and have more black jack tables at reasonable limits. Read Less

We were apprehensive about cruising - mainly because of the crowds found on the larger ships. My husband uses a wheelchair and the idea of navigating through crowds was daunting. However, the size of this ship was just perfect for us, as we had discovered on an earlier SilverSea cruise to Alaska. The staff were all very helpful and the accessibility for a power wheelchair user was very good overall There was an issue with one port where we could not disembark due to the steepness of the ramp which even had stairs at the end! The staff were willing to carry the chair and my husband down, but we didn't feel comfortable with that as the chair weighs 350 pounds empty and we didn't want to risk it being dropped - or someone being injured. One highlight was dining in Le Champagne, an intimate setting, with a 6-course meal. The food was exquisite and the atmosphere warm and romantic. We primarily ate in The Restaurant and found the food choices adequate for our picky appetites and the preparation always quite delicious. We arranged our own private tours in Tallin and St Petersburg with agencies that had wheelchair accessible vans and knowledgeable vans. SilverSea would have arranged these for us, but we found the cost was higher through their concierge service and we didn't feel confident that they would make arrangements appropriate to our needs. We suggest that SilverSea invest a little time and energy in finding wheelchair accessible tour providers for their regular shore excursions. None of the Silversea excursions were accessible and we were unable to use our considerable shipboard credits for any such tours which was disappointing. We've rated the shore excursions low because of our lack of access to any of them. Read Less

We considered several other cruise options, but picked Silver Sea for several reasons. 1. the schedule suited our time frame. 2. I like the no tipping policy, although we did leave a gratuity for our cabin butler and his assistant. (their service was too good not to be recognized). I Like the smaller ship ( can't imagine being on a ship with three thousand plus other passengers). 3. However St Petersburg was the main reason for this particular cruise, been on our bucket list for a long time. As far as the other ports go. Bruge is really a cute little town, but if I were to do it over again, I would skip the guided tour, and simply take a cab into town. our tour guide although knowledgeable, was often difficult to hear, and had a habit of continuing to talk as cars and trucks rumbled by over the cobblestone streets, completely obscuring his voice. The crew was exceptional, our treatment was first class in every way. Alex, our cabin butler went beyond my expectations to make us comfortable. Food was excellent. Excursions were a little pricey, but we enjoyed all. Read Less

All of the crew members seemed so happy, and were true professionals. Our butler was outstanding. He took care of our every need, listened to us very carefully, and followed up on everything we needed. The shows were great, and the cooking demonstration, and lectures all were top notch. Get on and off the boat was seamless, very smooth. Our cabin was so clean, modern, and very large. The boat was in excellent condition. All of the public areas were very clean & nice. The stops we made, Stockholm, Tallinn, St. Petersburg, Hellsinki, Rostock, Keil Canal, Neitherlands, and Amsterdam were great. The Hilton Hotels offered by the Silver Seas were all top. The transfers were very good. The cruise director Allen was so funny, and the British lunch/show was really fun. All of the entertainers were outstanding. Overall, outstanding!!! Read Less

it supposed to be a luxury cruise with great service but it turns to be an old and dated ship, a mid level ship has way better public areas, the spa is a shame, old, bad quality and terrible facilities. the main Restaurant is the only one that delivers a excellent service and quality of food, the rest the food was good but service is mediocre at best. the bars services were terrible as well very limited options on beverages and personal that seems they do not understand nor care what you ask for. in the grill the services was terrible either lunch, drinks or dinner, the manager was looking us play games without any concerns of what we order o need to dink or eat he was more concentrated on the games than in service!! we where a group of 8 people all well traveled and with high expectations from Silverseas and where not met. also the shows where a joke, no production, nice voices but all the same every night. Suite was a good size with nice bathroom ( dated but nice room) the ports and access to the cities where the best part. the humidor are well attended with a very professional staff ( Peter) there we received the service we where expecting in all the ship but it looks like peter was the best waiter in the ship. will definitively not come back to!! We did an Alaska cruise with Silversea two years ago and really liked the ship and the cruise line, so we went with Silversea again when looking for a Baltic cruise. We were generally satisfied, though there were a few things we would like to see done differently. First, they scheduled the Captain's welcome and the first enrichment lecture during the initial sailout from Stockholm. We didn't want to miss those events but would have preferred being on deck for the sailout. We had only two complaints about service. One night the service was way below standard in La Terraza - both food and wine. We mentioned this to the manager and it was much better on subsequent visits. The other issue was that our butler walked into our suite once without knocking or waiting to be invited. The same thing happened to a friend who was traveling with us. Rather strange. All in all, it is hard to beat Silversea. We will cruise with them again. Read Less

Nothing was left to chance...the passengers were wined, dined, entertained and attended to in a warm, professional manner by every crew member from the Captain down to the "behind the scenes" deck hands. Anything that could be done to enhance our cruise experience...on board ship or in port was done. Had us dreaming about that "Silversea around the world cruises". Shore excursions were especially enriching. Local guides were extremely knowledgeable, and freely imparted their knowledge to those in their charge. Every attempt was made to maximize the onshore experience for the passenger. An example that stands out was the after hours tour of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. Not only was our tour group taken on a private tour of the museum in the evening after the museum had closed to the public, but as a piece de resistance, we were escorted into a large skylight Italian Hall in the museum and treated to a live 45 minute performance by the 30+ piece State Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg. My daughter and her husband wanted to join us on a Silver sea cruise. We chose the Baltic cruise because of the interesting ports. We loved the cruise and the service from all of the staff was wonderful! We have been on many cruises, on different cruise lines and Siversea is the best by far. The butler service is great and gives us the feeling that we are very special guests. The bartender remembers your favorite drink. The dining room waiters and staff do great job and provide exceptional service with a smile. The food is well prepared and the menu is creative. One of the best things about the excursions is the fact that Silversea does not cram people is the tour busses. The 40 passenger buss generally has about 20-24 passengers. It allows people to move around and get a better seat for picture taking. Also, having a small number of people of the tours allows everyone to get close to the tour guide and hear what he or she has to say. Read Less

This was our first time on Silver sea and it was great! We have been on many other cruises before like Seabourn and Regent which are also great but there was something about Silversea that gave that extra touch. The size of the ship was great as it is small, where they dock in St. Petersburg Russia doesn't get any better...right behind the Hermitage. It was like staying at a five star hotel right in the middle of St. Petersburg. I recommend you get your Visa for Russia, although it is not necessary if you go on the tours offered, but with a Visa you can go off and on as you please. Great service and amazing food. The staff really got to know you and not expecting any tips..we ended-up tipping our Butler as he was so attentive to our family needs We are going to repeat with Silversea on their new ship the in a few months and looking forward to it. The Silver Whisper is a small luxury ship. It is very well-maintained and kept spotless by the crew. The dining was particularly noteworthy. One of our meals in the main dining room was regarded by a group of experienced travelers as one of the best meals we have had anywhere in the world, and our meals in La Terazza featured pasta that rivals that found anywhere. The sommelier was knowledgeable, helpful, and personable. Our butler and maid were both exceptionally friendly and professional. If I have a complaint it is that the service in the bar, lounge, and pool deck was inconsistent. Sometimes it was perfect--fast and friendly--but other times you waited a bit to be served. It seemed to depend on which server was on duty. Another small quibble is that the liquor selection is a notch below that found on other cruise lines (mid-shelf rather than top shelf--for example, Tanqueray gin, but not Hendricks). For such a small ship the entertainment was surprisingly good. Overall I highly recommend this cruise. Read Less

We wanted to visit countries we had not been to before. We especially wanted to see Saint Petersburg and Stockholm. They did not disappoint and were fascinating. We had previously been on a Seabourn cruise and were told Silversea was comparable. I would give a slight edge to Silversea. The Silver Whisper is a little dated, but overall very comfortable and just the right size for us. The suite was excellent, and our butler, RJ, was very good. We were told the butler would offer to unpack our bags, but he never did. Overall, he was prompt, professional and very nice. The food was overall very good. Breakfast and lunch were excellent. Dinner was average to above average. We were very impressed with the ease and speed of the embarkation process and leaving the ship on the last day. The staff was engaging, courteous and very professional. The preferred docking locations, especially in Saint Petersburg, were a plus. Read Less

We chose Silver Sea because of the cruise ports, small ship, luxury accommodations, reputation for service, recommendation of travel agent and positive comments from friends. The voyage was a very positive experience and we were skeptical that cruising was for us. We are now thinking about our next cruise. Another advantage was meeting a number of wonderful people and making new friends. The staff was wonderful and was responsive to all our requests. Tour excursions were all good with the possible exception of the group tour in Tallinn. That could have been better organized. Our private tours organized by Silver Sea in St. Petersburg were a wonderful experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable, spoke excellent English and was very personable. Probably the only negative was the wifi system. It was free at our suite level but one had log in every hourwhich was a pain. Additionally, the wifi only allowed one device hooked into the system which did not allow photo sharing between my iPhone and iPad. These are very small negatives on what was a wonderful experience. We would use Silver Sea again. Read Less

Otherwise, there is nothing bad to say about food and drinks, specially breakfast. Entertainment was perfect as well, very nice and talented silversea voice. As far as visiting cities, after being spoiled in St. Petersburg, I guess Tallin did not have too much to offer. Very well selected tour guides in St. Petersburg and good local restaurants as well. Cabin butler and maid, both were very well trained and professional. We couldn't wait for afternoon tea and beautiful piano music, relaxing. This trip was wonderful. the smaller, but more elegant experience was just what we wanted. Everyone on the crew was outstanding and had two things in mind. A safe, pleasurable cruise and the ability to make the passengers as comfortable and happy as possible. It was hard to think of ways to make it better but i think a better explanation of how the media system works would have been helpful. Also, since we were in Russia, i was looking forward to a Moscow Mule, but you didn't stock any Ginger Beer. It wasn't a big deal, but you might think of it in the future. By the way, I loved Talinn. It was a great small place to look around with a lot of history. Thank you so much for catering to our every need. Read Less

Absolutely loved our inaugural cruise on Silver Seas in August 2016 to Alaska, so chose this Baltic cruise without looking at any other cruise line. We wanted to visit the Northern Europe cities best accessible by a ship, so we invited a few friends to join us and off we went, and IT WAS BEYOND FANTASTIC. Crew-excellent; Guestroom-spacious and clean and comfortable; Entertainment-perfect for a small ship; Logistics-impeccably executed; Captain Luigi--so lovable; and the Food and Kitchen---amazing...no, that is inadequate, how about going the extra mile to accommodate every known food need and beyond, and everything being incredibly delicious and beautifully presented. . I am so so happy with Silver Seas! So, if yo are a happy travlerer seeking the best life can offer, this is for you. My only footnote: the private night at the Hermitage, closed to the public, wit just a few dozen SS guests on a private tour and orchestra concert, should be better emphasized; we attended and it was the highlight of our trip, but so many others barely knew about it----perhaps the ship ought to include this as part of the St Petersburg programming for all guests and serve late night dinner back on the ship. Yes, that spectacular..... And maybe a shorter day in Helsinki which is underwhelming and more time in Tallinn which is a great stop! THANK YOU FOR AN INCREDIBLE VACATION. WORTH EVERY PENNY! I was excited at the chance to travel with Silversea as a single with a more than fair 25% upcharge. i'd heard many good things about the line from friends and my topnotch travel agent. I was not disappointed at all. The size of the Silver Whisper is perfect for a week or so...not to large, not too small...just right! From the transfer in London to the ship in Southhampton, through the voyage and disembarking in Copenhagen all was handled promptly, professionally and perfectly. The staff were caring, the food and wine plentiful, the entertainment first rate...just about all you might want on a cruise. The excursions I booked were handled by excellent guides who were knowledgable and fluent in English. The buses were clean and had good AC which was important since it was hot quite a bit of the time. I've traveled many other lines but I cannot remember a better run operation. I was most pleased with my suite and butler. I felt pampered and special as I am sure did all the other guests. Can't wait for the next sailing! Read Less

Needed to be in Denmark, so we we did this cruise first. My travel companion had been on other silverseas cruises so she really built it up, and we were both a bit let down. The ship seemed a bit old, but it was comfortable. My biggest issue with this entire cruise is that the staff literally didn't' seem to understand our needs. By the last day, the staff was understanding us, but it was too bad it took that long for them to figure us out. I also had an issue with the food... and the service at the main restaurant was so slow. In general the staff wasn't hussling at all, just taking their time, and we would wait and wait. The drip coffee was really bad, so we had to have lattes and then it would take about 10 minutes to get. The food was good, but reminded me of a local chain restaurant. We did eat at the Relais and Chateau restaurant two nights which was better. We chose to eat in the cities we were visiting whenever possible. We did love the clothing and jewelry on the ship and ended up purchasing quite a bit of both! The bar tender at the main bar was also excellent, as was the barista at the panorama coffee bar. The in room movie selection was also very good. We did discover that we love Hamburg and Amsterdam which surprised us! The tours were efficient but typical cruise tours which wasn't surprising. I was expecting a very luxurious experience, and it seemed like a Celebrity cruise. Had my travel partner not talked it up so much i would have been more pleased. It was a good value, and we did have a nice time. If i sail again, i would like to go on a newer ship. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to the timing (mid June before the big summer crowds), the length (seven days), the ports of call, the offer associated with it (airfare), and the fact that we love sailing on Silversea. Their ships feel like home now, the staff is ultra professional yet friendly, and the guests are always a pleasure to meet. Although not specifically a themed cruise, the itinerary, the excursion options, the entertainment, the lectures, the amenities, all would please seniors, families, couples, honeymooners, people of all nationalities. We had a bit of each and everyone seems to have enjoyed it, as you could overhear raves at dinner, after shows, during excursions.... This is a fantastic way to get a taste of Northen European cities of note and charm - Southampton, Brugge/Ghent, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Skane, Copenhagen. Regarding Silversea cruising in general, we could not recommend it enough. The size of the vessels makes it more personalized both because you get to interact with other guest more easily, if you want, and you receive great service from all the staff who quickly recognize and greet you by name. And, it is such a treat to travel worry-free as these sailings are always all-inclusive so there is no concern about over spending on drinks or wondering about appropriate tipping or anything of the sort. The icing on the cake: the cuisine is superb. If you try Silversea once, you, like us, will keep on coming back. Antarctica is next! Read Less

We can choose from Japanese food to Pizzas. Lovely cheeses and desserts. Another high point of Silver Sea is the Service. We chose this cruise because of the date it was sailing, which may sound strange, but I had planned to attend an event immediately prior to this cruise. Well, Silver Sea does not disappoint! We were pampered by our butler, Ricardo and his assistant Neale, who were just amazing. Our cabin was just lovely, spacious and extremely well planned. The bed and bedding were simply fabulous and the bath towels were hard to leave behind, but we did. I can't say enough good things about the staff throughout, but especially the waiters and the managers of the restaurants. Upon arriving, we met with the maître d' and the head chef to discuss our allergies. Several other voyagers were also asked to meet privately with them to share their dietary concerns. After that, Silver Sea always kept track of who was dining where so that your individual allergy profile followed you around the ship. Our favorite place to dine was The Grill. Although there was more sophisticated food elsewhere on board, Milos ran a really fun spot! The smiles and caring attitude were genuine and made you feel welcome there all the time. His staff was so attentive that it was hard to come home. In the evening, you can grill your own steak and seafood right at your table. Do not pass up an opportunity to eat pasta, made daily on board by a really special Italian chef. OMG. Memories of their lasagna will be hard to forget! When you schedule your voyage, be sure to include one night at least at La Terrazza Restaurant. You can eat pasta and continental cuisine at the main restaurant, as well. We were a bit disappointed in the initial wine offerings at each meal and didn't realize that we could just request a different wine until our last night on board. We should have know that, but had forgotten. Last, but not least, the entertainment on the Silver Whisper was great. They had a group of 6 young singers whose talents were on display almost every night. We just loved them! There also were 2 piano players, one at each bar, a fabulous trio/combo that played at different venues throughout the ship, too. They were really wonderful as well. There were two ballet performances while we were on board. They were a nice addition. As far as the excursions that we took, I'd say that they were okay, but not fabulous. A couple of the guides were just not that nice to us, and we were feeling like they didn't get it that their jobs were working with foreigners and the public. Read Less

Although LaTerra was exceptional (the menu actually being a little overwhelming), the rest of the food service was your average cruise food. Certainly the food was well prepared and varied but we did not think any of it outstanding other than LaTerra. Eating at The Grill and cooking your own was interesting for a night but not anything more than that. We thought our room spacious, comfortable and maintained impeccably by our butler and steward. We would have liked to have some seating area on the shared balcony so we could sit out and enjoy the trip and socialize with others. We specifically chose a shared balcony room in hopes of sharing conversations with our neighbors but it really was not set up for that type of relaxation. The fitness room was sufficient but half the cardio machines did not work correctly which was irritating. Read Less

There were so may high spots and the overall experience was excellent, such a special ambiance and the right balance of genuine friendliness and professionalism which made for a fabulous holiday. We are not normally cruisers, I am 54 and have not cruised since my teens (my parents were avid cruisers). My partner gets seasick, even on a padello, and we are both the sort that likes to get involved in destinations and stay for a good few days to get under the skin of a place. So why did we cruise this time? The attraction was the ports, particularly St Petersburg, especially as we did not need to apply for a visa (which is currently expensive and messy involving a trip to London). The other ports were all new to us and by combining a couple of nights in Stockholm and Copenhagen pre and post cruise it was irresistible. Embarkation and disembarcation was a breeze, apart from the first morning in St Petersburg and as we were not on a trip until the afternoon this did not impact on us. The size of Silversea attracted us, The Whisper only takes 382 guests; neither of us like big hotels and the thought of a big cruise ship filled me with horror! We were not so sure about "all inclusive" but it was wonderful. Whilst we are not big drinkers having quality champagne, wines, cocktails and spirits as and when you wanted them was really nice. Wines were varied throughout the cruise, on the one occasion I did not like the red wine I was able to select one I had had on a previous night. The cruise Director, Vicky was a real star and got a great atmosphere going without being over the top. We had not intended to go to shows but gave them a go and enjoyed them, some very talented singers and decent variety for a wide range of musical tastes. The staff appeared to be a really strong team and often knew what you needed just before you did! From the room attendant, butler, Karen at the gym, waiters, bar staff and the rest of the crew service was excellent. Food was really lovely with a decent range of options and we enjoyed all the restaurants. I am a real foodie and the range of options was really good and never too formal. The Cabin was beautiful, spacious and although we did not have a private balcony that was fine for this cruise and we had a door out to a shared balcony. We had the natural light but at a better price. Bathroom was spacious and well equipped and there was a great walk in wardrobe. We organised our own trips apart from in St Petersburg when it was easier to go with the organised trips. We did 3 half day and 1 evening trip and all were great. The evening at the Hermitage was particularly magical and although not a cheap option it was worth every penny. The Through the Eyes of a local was fun & Peterhof Palace was stunning. Came back and already booked another Silversea cruise for next year! Read Less
